What I expect, and don't, from a Scott Pilgrim Season 2

Spoilers for all of the Scott Pilgrim works as I go through various plot points in the comics, and the ending of the first season, into hypothetical expectations if Bryan and BenDavid decide to do another.

What NOT to expect:

Memory Holes

Scott's gaps in memory are a good rug pull to the narration, it allows things we've previously seen to be recontextualized as Scott becomes aware he's not actually the hero. Thing is, Scott already knows this possibility from the end of Season 1 so we don't need it. This isn't a statement of 'no Nega-Scott' but we'll come back to that later.

Kim/Knives

Kim and Knives making out was a tool to set-up a Book 5 plot detail about Kim's relationship with Scott and Ramona. The part of that matters is we need to see Kim isn't straight, and there weren't a ton of female characters who would realistically make out with Kim and weren't busy in another plot. We've done this by having Kim try it out with Roxie, so Kim being bi is established already if they want to do the complicated 'I think I'm in love with either my best friend/ex or his current girlfriend' thing that was a bit of Kim's character. We also don't need to fish for 'reasons Knives is still around' she's in the band now, she's good.

The Glow

This is more of a 'that needed foreshadowing that isn't there' thing and we didn't foreshadow it so it probably isn't there. Ramona got her plot forward and her baggage detonation so it's not super useful anymore.

The Powers of Love, Self-Respect, and/or Understanding

So they could do these plot beats, but I don't think the swords work here. See, the swords work as a perfectly solid 'Scott leveled up' visual by making him cooler. And it plays even better in the movie because of how sword fights film vs. fistfights. Thing is, it's still saying that all 'understanding who you are' or 'respecting yourself and your needs' or 'being in love' is good for is stabbing people? It really feels hollow. Especially compared to Ramona's self-acceptance being 'turn into a God temporarily.' So if Scott gains any of those titles, it won't just be a sword.

Okay now that I've gone through a bunch of stuff I don't see coming up. I'm listing them as 'options' less because any two are mutually exclusive but all four cannot be done together.

Option One: Scott Gets a Life

So Scott didn't get to do most of his character growy things on account of him being dead for Tax Purposes. So he's still a useless mooch without a job, or anything to do other than play music. This isn't necessarily bad, but it is something they have to do something with. First is to do battle of the bands, lean all in on Sex Bob-Omb and the music going forward as the endgame to solve that Kim is also jobless. It isn't terribly grounded (but it could be very pretty visually), so I'm not super sold on it but it isn't off the table. They can also lean into 'Scott can cook' and do his cooking chef route from the books. This is more grounded and also can be visually pretty if done right. They can also do all manner of other job routes for Scott especially if the joke about job class systems because video games!

Option Two: Gideon is Still Evil™

So when Matthew was running from Gideon in G-Man Media's Headquarters he ran into a vault he couldn't blast through. That probably has even cryopods with six occupants. Because Gideon is still the worst. And 'but he's Gordon now' or 'but he has Julie now' are both not answers to the fact that Gideon is meant to be an incarnation of everything Scott could become. Notably Gideon didn't do any of his cool things™ from either book or movie in Season 1. Gideon still punishes women who betray him and Julie hates Scott. Gideon frames his revenge as making Scott suffer it is the perfect in-road to go after Ramona. Putting Julie in the Envy spot from Book 6. Which is even better because the betrayal will feel stronger since Gideon seems to like Julie sincerely.

Option Three: Scott's Ex Quest

So Scott has three significant ex girlfriends to dive in on. (I'm not counting Knives as- well, S1 actually resolved Knives pretty well?) And working through how Scott hurt them, and how they hurt him, and how it changed him would be a good avenue to do his character growth. It's honestly some of the stronger elements of the book looking right at Scott's past sincerely. This is the closest we get to retelling the books, but the twist is probably in execution, or in who else is involved. As all of Ramona's Exes being around and not-evil means we have new in-roads to character development.

Option Four: Nega-Scott/Future Scott

Scott is aware that he could be the problem, that awareness and vigilance makes the book version of Nega-Scott hard to work. The Shadow-Link attacking from nowhere just won't cut it. But we can do a similar thing with his awareness of the potential, a manifestation of his fears. Because this is a Rule of Cool series Scott's Fears becoming a monster makes as much sense as anything. So Scott just occasionally seeing/fighting an EvilRyu!Scott who shows up whenever Scott is especially anxious is entirely acceptable. This especially works if the central theme of the series is Scott trying to become more mature and responsible, having this evil manbaby hunting him represents that nicely.

Every so often I see... interesting takes about Zemo that leave me questioning if we... all saw the same stuff.

Like, you know he commanded a death squad before his fam even died, right? This man is not a good dude. Sure, maybe it was in the name of his country but also... his country was a shit show and he said as much.

So I am absolutely perplexed by the number of "he wouldn't do x" and "why does everyone make him so toxic" kinds of things. He actively waterboarded Vasily Karpov like one of the first times we saw him. He was put in the RAFT because he is a fucking terrorist.

This feels like another one of those things I guess that reminds me of Hannibal. Him being polite doesn't make him any less of a cannibal. You can be both polite and a bad person.

Having demand avoidance in a medical setting is literally hell. Like, patient autonomy is already absolute ass. It's only made worse when doctors CONSISTENTLY tell you what to do and act like you HAVE to do it instead of consulting with you first like normal fucking people.

TOP 5 “EZIO’S FAMILY” VERSIONS + TOP 5 TRACKS

Ezio’s Family - Favorite Versions:

Main Theme (AC Rogue) I'm a sucker for traditional Irish instrumentals, and you can feel the adventure of the North Atlantic through it. It doesn't just convey Shay's sense of freedom, but his will to fight against great odds and tragedy (and the cold). The way it builds up, then when the beat drops, it explodes into the Irish whistle, backed up by a drumbeat that sounds like both a heartbeat and the beating of your oars against the waves -- and then, as it ends, the music disperses into what sounds like a migratory flock of birds flying overhead.

2. Ezio's Family (Origins Version) (AC Origins)

It's a really tired but determined version of this song. You can feel how the chasm between Aya and Bayek is only as deep as their love. The things that bring them together are the same things that separate them: Their love for Khemu, the common folk, and Egypt. AC Origins is so perfect because it conveys the thing we love about the franchise the most: The ability to feel the will of the people reaching out from thousands of years away. This is the sound of hope. I am constantly mentally reliving the scene when the chorus plays for the first time in the game (notice how on the title screen, they always fade out the tune before the chorus actually drops, so they tease you with the signature beginning of Ezio's Family, but only the beginning):

"Good Bayek of Siwa. What are you of now?" "A new creed. Ours is finished."

3. The Flight (AC Odyssey)

Just like Legend of the Eagle Bearer, you can feel the literal odyssey in it. You feel the tides under your ship. Also, those vocals? Fucking fantastic. I thought I was done with Ezio's Family remakes when Odyssey came out, but then I actually listened to it. Oof. Amazing.

4. Main Theme (AC Chronicles: India)

I'm a sucker for strings. Like, this is why I love Shao Jun's version, but I've spent my whole life listening to pipa and gu zheng strings, ykyk, so I love it a lot, but AC India gives me just the right amount of familiarity in terms of string instrumentals while giving me the sense of a completely different world. It's the novelty for me. It's also just super chill and puts me in a good headspace, while still ending on an exciting, high note. There's also a tempo at the beginning where I feel like I'm listening to a clock tick.

5. Earth (AC 2)

Yo, when I tell you that the first time I played AC 2 and Ezio put on his father's Assassin's robes, and this played, I lost my goddamned MIND. I used to listen to this song, Ezio's Family, and Venice Rooftops one after the other like they were all one really long song, on loop, to get myself to fall asleep. I feel like I'm leaping from rooftop to rooftop, until I've achieved full flight. Ugh. Just. Perfection.

Honorable Mention: Somewhere between AC Unity and AC Syndicate versions, because hot DAMN, you really feel the beat of their cities in them.

Additional Favorite Tracks (in no particular order):

I Walk on Your Water (AC Origins) Bro, the first time I heard this when AC Origins came out and I was playing the soundtrack while I cooked, hearing this song was like a religious experience. And when the scene where Layla first experiences Aya's memories and says the line herself -- breathless, exalted -- was like the Second Coming.

2. Fight Club (AC III)

RATOHNHAKÉ:TON MY BELOVED. Yo, when I tell you I was in love with this game and its music and main character YEARS before I even touched ACIII, I am not fucking kidding. I listened to this shit on repeat. It pumps me up like nothing else. It motivates me at work, when I'm writing, and when I'm training. This song is the shit. AND FUCK YEAH I LINKED YOU TO THE EXTENDED VERSION WHAT OF IT. It's high-energy and determined and FUN. It's like a really nice round of sparring where you beat the shit out of your opponent but you're both happy about it.

3. Committee of One (AC Unity)

Yo, when I started stalking the King of Thieves and this beat dropped, I knew this was gonna be a good fucking game. I felt the thrill and danger, but I also felt unstoppable. I was fully immersed in Arno strolling into the den of the rats, not to mention how the Unity version of Ezio's Family starts playing once you've killed the King and escape. I ran into Templar thugs on the street on purpose just to hear this while they chased me. That abyssal heartbeat (AC Unity soundtrack has a living, breathing pulse) that falls into the familiar strains of that violin, followed by that harpsichord? Chef's fucking kiss.

4. Legend of the Eagle Bearer (AC Odyssey)

You can feel the waves under your oars! You can hear the sun rise over the horizon as the water changes colors! You can hear the relentless drive of your rowers as dawn breaks and the early-morning silence slowly dwindles down. And when you break into a full flight, it feels like you've gone wild, on the chase.

5. City of Rome (AC Brotherhood)

Oldie but goodie. It's so calm and inviting, but promises you adventure. You really feel like you've stepped into a city that's already ancient, but has so much to offer.

Honorable Mention: Master Assassin from AC Brotherhood and Parting Glass, Anne Bonny in Black Flag version.

Day 3: Four fully-furnished starter tiny homes at varying budgets!

Most starter homes are meant to be blank canvases, but I wanted some that already had personality so you could jump right into playing. I was also inspired by “smallest home possible for X Sims/Y budget-” YouTube videos for TS4 and wanted to try it in TS2! Edit: I forgot to mention- as usual, these are CC free.

§20k Starters for up to 8 Sims

The first two are both your average 20k starter designed to house large families. The blue house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and is furnished for four Sims by default, while the red house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and is furnished for eight Sims (!) by default.

Both have a whole 10x10 worth of backyard space, because that's kind of important when things are so crowded - but if you want to shave off even more space or money, the actual houses are built such that the lots can easily be shrunk with the Lot Adjuster to just 10x10 total.

§19,650 - 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom

§19,952 - 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom

Both lots have the same downstairs layout, while the red house has a smaller upstairs landing to facilitate an extra bedroom. By default, the red house assumes two baby/toddler residents, but you can sell both cribs and the potty to afford two more beds whilst staying under-budget.

The back yards are half-”paved” in free-to-own terrain paint in preparation for any outdoor furniture you might want to place. I recommend making use of neighbourhood decorations for free landscaping! Obviously they look boxy and a bit funny on their own, but they look good placed in a row, or squeezed into a small space in an already-populated suburb.

BE AWARE that neither house includes burglar or fire alarms/sprinklers; however, the blue house will leave you with enough Simoleons to afford both. You could also choose to buy enough supplies for a cat and/or a dog with the budget left over.

The staircases have been placed with Nopke’s mod which allows Sims to pass underneath spiral stairs, functionality which should stick even if you don’t have the same mod (unless you buy new stairs). However, the house still functions even if Sims can’t pass underneath the stairs.

The little 2x1 space by the back door ended up being quite useful in such a tight layout, especially the 4-bedroom, like so:

But if you use an open staircase mod, feel free to consider this alternative layout:

§10k Starter for Single Sim or Couple

This one is perfect for newcomer Sims saving up for a bigger house, retired Elders who want to leave the family estate to their adult kids, or frugal Sims who simply have no desire to start a family.

§9,919. The layout is not so large as to feel lonely but not too small that Sims can’t entertain a guest or two. No backyard to this one - it’s a true 1x1 lot.

§2k Shelter

And the ultimate budget challenge - trying to make a decent shack for Sims under 2k. I actually love how it turned out; it looks so cute and cottage-y from the outside and feels so cozy and safe on the inside.

§1,956. No shower, but Sims can sponge bathe in the sink if they get desperate. The toilet is outside but that’s honestly preferable in such a small space. Most of the walls are actually made from roofing to keep the price down but the house is fully weather-proof.

This looks a little silly - but it works! Sims can access the toilet through the cutout provided under this extra roof. Put some neighbourhood deco trees around for privacy and for the woodland fairy cottage vibes. This lot was mostly just a fun challenge, so it’s not super practical, but I do think it could be useful for down-on-their-luck Sims who need a place to crash in a hurry.

The Owner was made in the shape of a businessman, and like all businessmen he is often driven by deep envy.

THE WHALESONG ROOM

The Hotel Herself is powerful and intelligent and mysterious and older than all of us. She is master of a realm that would kill us if we were even just EXPOSED to it.

THE BLOOD & VENOM ROOM

Structurally similar to the Lobby Boy's room in name and organic reference, but like the Bellhop, with an overtly, almost cheeky, gory edge.

THE STARLIGHT LOUNGE

Classy, retro, mood lighting and dark corners. The distinction of being a lounge is no accident, the Concierge is probably the most 'normal' one of the bunch. But you'll die just as dead among the starlight.

THE REAPERS ENVY

The Auditor is deadly, even among the deadly, monstrous to the monsters, and carries a blade. The name is similar to the Owner's, linking the characters and (I had hoped) finally reveal the naming scheme.

I had a friend come to visit last week, and one evening as we sat around drawing together we decided to both draw that scene where Pippin finds Merry after the battle. I’ve drawn the scene before but not in a while and I’ve changed the design for both the characters. And even though I am still getting over that art block from this year I had fun. (Also that Merry-with-braids post has been doing well lately so I decided maybe I should finish off today’s art dump with this one since he has braids here as well.)

Fantasy racism almost always handled very badly and uncomfortable way but it is extra bad with fallout 4.

Like I enjoy game but synth writing is so bad. My options of way of treating them is enslave this guys, kill this guys, or be a white saviour to this guys. I wanna help this guys but I want them to have their own opinions you know. I need more Glory less Desdemona. Nick also should be more vocal about synth and robot rights he talks about it but not enough. I love him a lot one of my faves but he is written and act like one of the good ones. Internalised synthphobia.

Also all mind-wipe thing.

Also coursers being seen as pure evil always evil same level evil with instutue. Like this guys are also synths they are also enslaved they are as much as victims as others you need to save them too. Game tried to make me sympathise with fucking Kellogg of all people but x6 written like he is sadistic beyond saving pure evil and guilty murderer. One joined instutue voluntary other is literally created and brainwashed and threatened with mindwipe.

Actually it's not the way story elements exist but how narrative treats them. Like way characters act make sense. But story want me to think in a way that doesn't make sense. Yeah man I feel so good with helping this good synths and killing bad ones and deciding which one is evil which one is not. Only good ones deserve freedom after all. Yeah brotherhood rules they allow nick with me doesn't matter they treat him like my rabid pet.

I wan not going to write that long because its not that deep and I don't care that much but I wrote that much. Sorry. This is like my version of being Tumblr user who gets angry on child cartoon because it is not handling political themes good. My Steven universe rant. Anyways I will again turn my brain off it doesn't worth it that much criticizing. It's badly written.

IDK... maybe it's just because Laserblast and I are 🤝 when it comes to being disaster bisexuals... but if I was Carol and I found out the love of my life and father of my child who has been presumed dead for like a decade was still alive, but became a hotter and more evil version of himself... I'd forgive him and become evil or at least an anti hero so we could be together again.

#jokes aside i am doing better now #i spent two days deconstructing exactly where all of the self hatred came from #and i mean yeah a lot of it had to do with people being incredibly mean and weird my whole life #being told there was something wrong with me or wanting me to take hormone medication #and the 2-ish years i got underweight and everyone kept saying i was a boy or tr4ns #saying i needed to identify as xyz thing because i looked a certain way. or trying to force identities on me.#people at a new church would be kind of weird around me... and i wasnt even in like full gothic attire. just a black shirt/jeans #every week i was asked if i was saved #i didnt understand why: if i was supposed to be a girl- why didnt i look like one? why wasn't i allowed to be one.#but the role the internet played was not a small one #it's absolutely messed up how much idolatry people have for physical bodies. how much value is placed on it.#treating someone like a lesser human for not looking like a stereotype #bullying CHARACTERS who LOOK LIKE YOU #absolute trash #why couldnt i just be me #ive always hated changing the way i looked for others and i still refuse to #i remarked the other day that i missed the time when i thought my androgyny was beautiful #and unique and i was carefree about it #i missed when i looked down upon appearance and thought it was worthless #then i had a *wait a second* moment #and suddenly everything else was a lie

#uhmm...i don't know how to explain this...#so my family has been having a lot of trouble lately #mostly our relationship with our step father #there's been ups and downs..well..more on the downer side. the only main reason my mother married him was because of..well..#money..as trash as that sounds. i can't deny the fact that I've been able to continue my studies due to his financial support.#i don't want to justify anything that i've probably done wrong to him but emotionally right now—i'm simply scarred to the point where—#I don't think I could heal without professional help. I've been struggling a lot with it ever since of what he did #i felt disgusted. dirty. I felt lost. I didn't want to forgive him. maybe this is the punishment i have to endure because I didn't have it—#—in me to forgive him. I know the principles of my religion and it is stated that one must always find forgiveness towards others.#no matter how big their mistake is. but you see—I'm not God. I am human. my kindness isn't as grand and as big as Him.#my patience is limited and so is my forgiveness #that applies the same to my mother. my mother is a very patient person when it comes to her husband. but yet again she isn't an angel—#nor is she God. she is also human and has limits to what she could handle and what she could forgive and forget.#they argued tonight. and I don't think it'll slide or end well like the past arguments. and I'm sorry to say but—#I won't be able to be active all that much either.#without him now I'll probably have to look for part time jobs. which is gonna limit how active I will be here and on my main account #I will probably go into an indefinite hiatus for some time #maybe I'll come back...maybe I won't. hopefully I will. just...pray for me that I have it in me to continue doing what I love and—#—sharing these little bits of what I do in my free time with you.#I won't have the time to reply to anything for the time being. college tests are on the way and I have to prepare myself for—#—the better or worse.#if things go downhill and you don't hear from me for a long while. then this will probably be my last post here.#I'll still be able to reply to messages on other platforms #but I just don't have the emotional stability to talk right now. Lost S2 is very clearly splitting the characters into two groups, people who are better off on the island (John, Sun and Jin, Rose and Bernard, Charlie, Sawyer probably, etc) and people who still want to go home (Jack, Hugo, Sayid, Desmond, etc). And I’m confused as to why Kate is in the “wants to go home” group because she’s a wanted murderer and bank robber? Isn’t it better for her to stay on the island? Like I KNOW it’s just so she can get with Jack but does that really make sense?

#and this is why I think Kate x Sawyer is the more interesting half of the love triangle because they’re actually so similar #and like #understand one another fundamentally I think #and them staying on the island together would make a lot more sense then Kate deciding to be normal with Jack #sawyer is a human trash bin with some weird characterization sometimes but I am kind of obsessed with him

Honestly the fact that I think about work more than five minutes after leaving that place from hell is already a major red flag 💀

#misc #also had nightmares about work lately #and i am the kind of person who keeps rehashing something for days #so of course it happens with work #from time to time if something happens #but shit happens every fucking day #and everyone is like leave #which is the rational thing to do #and i want to leave #but I can't afford leaving without a back up plan #even if i have savings #and i don't know what to do with my life #all work offers are fucking trash #we are living in a hellscape dystopia #the only bright side is that at least some of my colleagues understand #spoiler alert it's because they are in the same mind jail situation as me #we are all depressed youpiiii #and at least they have someone to come home to #while i have this studio cause i can't afford more and nobody to talk to #well except for my cat #at least when he's purring on my chest i feel at peace for a few minutes
