I wonder if the concept of werewolves exists in Beastars? Not the traditional werewolves where humans turn into wolves, but rather, something along the lines of a myth about a herbivore turning into a carnivore, possibly used as a cautionary tale amongst herbivores about being careful about who you trust, or to be careful to watch for otherwise hidden dangers

Needlessly Pedantic Answers to Worldbuilding Questions that Don't Matter That Much to Begin With, Episode #1:

why is everyone in your fictional world an animal? what do they eat? are there any non-sapient animals? is it more of a "Zootopia or Beastars" type situation? how does anatomy change across certain species?

so as nobody may know, i write about a lot of fictional worlds and one of them is your standard diverse furry society. while these are quite fun to mess around with, they tend to bring up a lot of questions (that technically don't matter too much, i mean you're just telling a fictional story for god's sake) about how the world works. and there's especially a lot of questions raised in my case because my world doesn't just feature mammals, but also reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish, and so on, so you wonder how differently they live, if at all. i'm gonna be evil and answer all of those questions that exactly -2 people have asked today!

1: why is everyone an animal?

of course, the real reason is because it's fun to explore stories and create characters that aren't human, and it's especially a fun opportunity to experiment with character design! but for a more in-universe reason, the gods like to take inspiration from each other and will tend to build off of each other's ideas. this world was made by the wandering god Belet, who became inspired after visiting several worlds of other gods. they were curious about creating a world where multiple sapient species exist, since it was a common trend in other worlds for only one dominant species existing at a time.

2. what do they eat?

naturally, all species are vegetarian, although some areas of the world have gotten to the point of inventing artificial foods adjacent to plant-based meat. the idea of cannibalism or killing other people to eat hasn't really been explored due to being kinda... dubious. but i guess it's up in the air. although it may sound weird, the practice of selling one's own dairy products and other non-meat animal products is quite normalized. it's basically just seen as the same level of normal as selling any other food items you make.

3. are there any non-sapient animals?

so far? nope. but that might get retconned in the future, i dunno. i haven't published enough about this world so i'm still able to reconsider if i wanted to. but as of right now, basically every single organism from the animalia kingdom is anthropomorphized, with a few exceptions. (exceptions usually being organisms i have no clue how to anthropomorphize lmao)

4. is it more of a "zootopia or beastars" type situation?

to expand on this question, it's basically asking for more information on how society functions and how fucked it is, if at all. initially i said it was going to be a utopia of sorts- i retconned that, lol, because it seems like i can't ever write about a truly happy world. it's definitely one of my better worlds to live in, but it's by no means perfect. i wouldn't say it's Beastars levels of messed up (black markets selling dubious meat and carnal instincts telling you to eat your friends) but it's probably not as cutesy as, say, Zootopia is on the surface level, although i do like how it tackled systemic racism and whatnot. i guess it's somewhere in between. there isn't anything going on that's straight out of a psychological horror movie but there's definitely inequality and tension everywhere.

5. how does anatomy change across certain species?

outside of the very obvious base change of every animal becoming anthropomorphic and thus more human-like, there's a couple other changes, such as necessary internal anatomy shifting around so all creatures can live on land properly, plus the ability to be able to speak the same languages, stuff like that. arthropods are a bit trickier (like oh my god so much would have to change) but i usually just explain that they're built different and call it a day. for my sanity. cold blooded animals are able to somewhat thermoregulate on their own, but will still largely rely on their surroundings. if you're cold, they're cold. wrap your lizard girls in blankets. also, all animals are similarly sized, but some tend to be slightly larger/smaller on average depending on the species. like, an old elephant man is gonna be MUCH taller than a moth lady lol.

oh, and an extremely unnecessary addition that i only expanded on because of the fact that i had to face the logical issue of giving my reptile characters boobs: non-mammalian animals will still tend to have visible "breasts" due to having the general silhouette of a human, but they don't produce milk or function at all outside of looks. some non-mammalians prefer to get their "breast" tissue surgically removed due to the fact that it serves basically no purpose for them.

that's about where the biological similarities end, though. when it comes to reproduction, biological compatibility largely follows the same odds as it would in the real world, so you sadly won't see many wolf/komodo dragon hybrids hanging out. this also tends to be a source of interspecies-relationship discrimination, and not to mention eugenics...

some miscellaneous tidbits:

-in terms of technology and resources, i'd say this world is about as advanced, if not a little more than our own. it's no sci-fi paradise but there are some significant advancements made that definitely outdo us, such as the research and technology poured into environment conservation and space exploration (the latter of which may or may not be one of the main topics of a story i'm working on... :3)

-trans healthcare is also reasonably advanced, although that doesn't imply there's less transphobia.

-yes, there's probably some unique version of veganism in this world, but instead of not eating animals it'd be like... fungi. or certain types of plants. or maybe even animal products anyways, despite the fact that they're normalized, for one reason or another.

-ohhhh clothes work so differently depending on what kind of animal you are. but i cannot get into that here. not without going insane. just know that i have been thinking about it a lot. there are entire different kinds of clothing for certain body types, just not the definition of body type you'd initially think of. there's specific clothing for the winged. the tailed and the non-tailed. the quilled. the feathered. the slimed. its insane

my only real problems with loredumps is when it's presented: A) written like a wikipedia article B) starting with "as you know"

Remember the Flesh of the Bones: The Black Market’s Respect for the Eaten

Hello all! I was inspired to write this by two scenes in the manga:

1) The scene where Agata calls Melon out for being disrespectful (context: Melon offhandedly mentioned that he doesn't even know what he's eating);

2) The scene where Legoshi takes Haru into a shop that sells rabbit meat, and reveals that a priest comes often to pray for the bodies.

That isn't much to go off of, and this isn't really a long post as a result, but I figured I’d try my hand at writing something nonetheless. I hope this is enjoyable (and if anyone has anything else to add ... please do!)

intro

As pro-carnivore activists try to break the stigma surrounding the consumption of meat, more eyes than ever are pointed at the Back Alley Market. At first glance, the BAM appears to be a case study of all that is wrong in society. At second glance however, it is evident that the attitudes towards meat consumption dffer in the BAM when compared to the rest of society.

In the BAM, meat consumption is seen as a respectful act, and a way for the departed to serve a purpose even in death.

There is an old superstition that purports that the deceased remember core elements about themselves.

There is disagreement over what qualifies as a ‘core element’, it is generally believed that the deceased’s: 1) species, 2) age at the time of death and 3) sex are an integral part of a person's being, even in death.

This belief informs much of the habits surrounding the consumption of meat, including, for example, what parts of the body are ‘disrespectful’ to consume.

In summary: the deceased remember the most important parts of themselves, even in death. By treating their bodies with respect, the deceased are honoured properly.

Species:

Certain stereotypes should be honoured when consuming meat.

Cats, who are popularised as favouring mice, are the most ‘suited’ to eat mice meat.

By eating the meat of their prey-counterpart, the predator gives the prey animal a respectful send-off.

It is difficult to come up with a proper comparison, but imagine two enemies who have fought against each other for eons. It's considered best if one person ends the other, or vice versa — doing so marks a befitting end for the defeated.

Though this is considered a core element of the deceased, it is seldom observed.

Age at the time of death:

While it is not considered taboo to eat the meat of a young animal (assuming the meat is sourced legally, from say, a funeral home), these are generally eaten at more solemn events.

In other words: the meat of a young animal is a delicacy all on its own.

Meat from young animals tends to be prepared in a more bland manner: fewer seasonings. It's more likely to be boiled or baked rather than fried or barbecued.

It varies from person to person, but, generally, people try especially hard not to waste any meat taken from a young animal — it's seen as extremely ungrateful and disrespectful.

Sex:

As a rule of thumb, private parts (reproductive organs especially) are generally thrown away rather than eaten. It's considered indecent to eat them.

the cycle of beasts

The ‘cycle of beasts’ is a school of thought that reframes predation as a natural act, that is neither good nor bad.

In summary: It is the destiny of certain animals (usually prey, though predators are also included) to die so that others may live.

Though the ‘predation is a natural act’ point rubs many people the wrong way, it simply means that predation, as it occurs now, is the natural consequence of the way meat consumption is demonized.

Followers of this school of thought point to the fact that predation itself is a very recent crime, being almost non-existent prior to the Carni-Herbi war.

Indeed, the number of recorded predations spiked when social norms began to view meat consumption in any form as a faux pas.

The cycle of beasts also suggests that consuming meat fulfils the deceased's purpose, and also avoids the body being treated disrespectfully.

on one hand I always feel highly embarassed thinking about anime crossovers with my Adult American TV Shows, on the other I do think of that one extremely well written hannibal/soul eater crossover

#☢️.txt #part of why it worked tbh is bc the world building of soul eater is so distinct that you can separate it from the narrative #i did write a hannibal/beastars crossover bc its a similar case where you have very distinct worldbuilding #and still have a story that is A Crossover. you dont even need to have the soul eater characters there for it to work #that serves to tell stories about characters and how they have responded to their culture + environment #fma is kind of in that category?#its an extremely plot driven piece of media with a lot of exploration of themes #but the setting is distinct and removing it from the equation would change a lot about how you tell the story #anyways. the point here is i enjoy crossovers where its less about two sets of characters meeting each other #and more about putting characters into an entirely different setting and exploring how they would respond #my hannibal/beastars fic is entirely just seeing how the plot and themes would change to fit into the beastars setting #and what can be expanded on using the basis of the beastars setting #which as a worldbuilding and character analysis enjoyer is what i always want to do

short answer, yes!

however i don't think it'll be bad as the beastars universe due to the fact that

anthros diet CAN be effected by their animal species, but its not limited (for example, dog anthros can mostly eat chocolate)

anthros and feral animals exist seperated in the fluffverse, so the whole "no meat crisis" isn't a problem

the height of anthros usually don't go along with their animal species, a 200cm rabbit anthro can absolutly put down a 160cm tiger anthro

so it DOES exist, but its a very minor thing

the main tension in this universe actually comes from land anthros and "fish people" (amphibians/fish) which you can glance into from here

I would like to know mroe about that beaststars tadc au please

The basic set up is that they all go to college in varying years

1st year — Jax, zooble

2nd year — gangle, pomni, bubble

3rd year — ragatha

It’s kind of zooble and pomni centric at first with zooble sharing a dorm with her after pomnis last roommate went missing (they were a herbivore). They’re also forced to be around each other almost all schoolday because of zooble being a hybrid and other factors making the school force them to have a 'guardian' (they’re trying to seem progressive and don’t want to get any bad rep), so basically forcing pomni to be a caretaker for a person who doesn’t want or need one.

They are not happy and cannot stand each other at first

The cast meet each other by having all joined a new circus club by Caine, that outside of customes has almost nothing to do with circuses lol, it’s more of an theater club but clowns. Like in the show he comes up with acts and/or adventures for them to do, where his intentions are to teach teamwork or whatever excuse he came up with to create it. The crew mostly joined because they get free stuff from it.

The story is undercooked still, because at first I loved the worldbuilding in beastars and just thought the craziness of it was fitting for tadc. I do have characteristics and dynamics in my head, like pomni having trouble with taking control of her carnivorous instincts while ragatha doesn’t have any herbivorous instincts at all, or Jax and zooble being frenemies who somehow almost always find each other in the same place and have matching pendants (zooble around their neck and Jax on his ear)

Kinger is probably a teacher, I’d imagine that he would teach something related to bugs. I also have some ideas for the abstracted, but you’ll just have to wait to find out if I flesh it out bc I think this is long enough already haha. This au will definitely include some beastars craziness, don’t worry.

Lastly I’m just gonna make a list of the character species:

–pomni: cat, long–haired Scottish fold, but shaves fur short

–Jax: European hare + Flemish giant rabbit hybrid, the latter of which is mostly just the height

–Ragatha: Dorset horn sheep

–Gangle: Malay weasel

–Zooble: Hybrid, dog + bird + deer (don’t rlly have any specific species)

–Kinger: lion

– Kaufmo: also a cat

–bubble: Thresher shark (Ik in context this doesn’t make sense, but it’s my au so I’m gonna have fun with it)

– Caine: genuinely have no idea, I need suggestions please

So yea, I hope this gives more insight! This au also dips a little into ships, which hopefully people won’t mind.

these have nothing to really do with the story and are more from a worldbuilding standpoint, but do normal humans exist in that universe? on a similar note, do normal animals? cuz the characters are all like shapeshifter/hybrid things- are there just regular animals running around?

In the I Know I'm A Wolf universe, there are no normal humans and only a very limited amount of normal animals. This universe operates off of Beastar rules where everyone is an animal except fish and insects!

Beastars Phistin au

Phil and Kristin attend Cherryton academy, as a panda her family is seen as the pinnacle of what society values, the strength and size of a carnivore and the instincts of a herbivore her family expects her to rise and become the new beastar although her grades are near perfect, due to her awkwardness she is in her senior years and have yet to do anything notable. As she builds the confidence to take a leading role in the coming play then comes this feathered rat Phil from the gardening club who threatens to usurp her spotlight, social, confident, a threat. Feeling threatened, her instincts take over.

The drama club consists of basically og L'manberg: Wilbur (anteater), Tommy (raccoon), Tubbo (goat), Niki (otter), Jack (hairless possum), Eret (lion), Fundy (fox) plus Kristin (panda).

The gardening club consists of Phil (crow), Techno (boar) and Ranboo (zebra).

Like in the original story the story kicks off when a student of the school is devoured, Wilbur is the victim and it is suspected that one of the students of the school did it. Wilbur was someone in the leading role and helping direct the play, thus Kristin fills in giving her the chance to do something notable.

I love Beastars so much I'm head over heels for the worldbuilding.

》 YOU'RE QUEER? WHAT'S THE DEAL THERE?

Sure am! I'm a gender non-conforming trans man. I go by he/him pronouns exclusively and I mostly use stereotypically masculine terms (man, boy, dude, guy, fella, etc) to refer to myself. That said, I've got no intentions of trying to mirror cis men and the latter can and does vary whenever I want it to. I'm a man in the same way Bugs Bunny is a man; Gender is a joke to me, it's malleable and I will use it however I see fit at a moment's notice. I use the labels pansexual and queer pretty interchangeably. Gender doesn't really play a part in who I'm attracted to, it's just kind of a neat bonus more than anything. That said? Overall I'm largely attracted to other queer people! I'm non-monogamous. I use the term ambiamorous to refer to myself because it fits well enough. I can comfortably exist in both monogamous and polyamorous relationships but between the two? Up to now I've found the latter is my preference. Also, I know I don't owe anyone an explanation about my identity. I'm talking about this because I'd like to (queer expression is fun to talk about yippeeee) and not because I feel obligated to. People aren't owed your life story, especially people on the internet ✌️

》 DO YOU HAVE A BYF / DNI?

Yes! You can find it here. I know some people consider these to be pretty superfluous because anyone who most BYF / DNI lists apply to probably won't be the kind of person to be courteous enough to listen to them. That said? I'm aware of that and I don't expect this to stop anyone who doesn't want to be stopped. The reason I have it here is more for the benefit of those who I will inevitably end up sharing spaces with. It's more for their reference so they can make an informed decision on whether they want to follow my blog or not and what's best for their own comfort, based in part on where I stand on certain things and where I'll put my foot down. Not yet, but I'm slowly working on it. In the meantime? Here's what you mainly need to know. You can find my talking and general shitposts under solar talks, or my art under dog draws. I do have content warning tags! I try to be conscientious and tag anything that I know is a common trigger for people (blood, gore, bones, bright colours, insects, etc) as and where I can. I format all of my content warning tags as "cw //" and then whatever the content of the post is that needs tagged. So for example, if you don't want to see insects? You can blacklist it on my blog using cw // insects and that should stop you from seeing any creepy crawlies. This same format applies to all of my content warning tags. If there's anything more specific you need tagged? Don't be afraid to let me know. I'm happy to accommodate for you wherever you need; If it's something that triggers you? Then it warrants being taken seriously. No matter how silly or overly specific you may think it'll sound, I'll respect it.

Kia vlhave you ever seen beastars if not spoilers if you want but there's a worldbuild that canines when given an order by someone they trust will follow to their death which almost does kill our protagonist if the power of love didn't save him

That could be really cool actually, but sad at the same time? Like I don't know how far it goes over there, but the "olhos sempre abertos" thing slowly making Forever more and more paranoid, cause he has to keep an eye on things, he has to think about all the possibilities, he has to keep his eyes open.

Like imagine on the fucking happy pills, would the command still work? Would it not? Would it just be trapped inside his mind and he has to live with the agony of not obeying it?

I have exams in May-June, but I thought that I'd still share what I'm working on.

It's a ... fake research paper. I tweaked the idea a little bit from my initial concept, which was just “Who Protects the Protectors? Carnivores as Protectors”.

I’ve gotten a little ways past the Abstract, but here's what I have so far. It's unedited, so some details are subject to be changed but hope you enjoy this sneak peek of sorts.

P.S.: I am working on some of the asks I had to put off. :)
