So. I made an RTC swap au!!

It started just with an idea of John Doe!Ricky that I had for a pretty long time, but recently I decided to turn it into something cooler, so I made this whole thing. Maybe I'll sketch their designs later (or at least make picrews of them), but idk how much time it will take. I haven't change some things, like the relationships between some characters, because I thought it wouldn't work very well. But, this isn't fully finished yet, so there's some moments that may be changed in the future.

I imagine this AU more like a play, than a musical and honestly I really don't think that it'll become something serious, cause I'm not that good at writing and creating full stories, so, at least at the moment, it's just for fun. Also, the designs are based on the 2016 cast, but feel free to make your own interpretations with your favorite cast. And maybe someday I'll make them too, we'll see. Anyway, hope y'all enjoy it!! (Pls excuse me if there are any mistakes, english isn't my first language, blah blah blah. Also there are a lot of spoilers for rtc, so if you plan to watch it — don't read further!)

So, first is Penny — the most imaginative girl in town. She's super silly, sometimes awkward and doesn't really have any friends because most people think she's weird. Penny often gets left out or bullied, and she uses escapism to cope with this + all the stuff with her parents, who she didn't get enough love from. Her fantasies is a bit different from the original Ricky's: they don't have a lore, she just makes up random stories to escape from reality and writes them out sometimes. She *definetely* writes fanfiction and probably posts it online. For some reason people find it cool, but no one in the choir knows about it. She's still a Seven-Up fan and she plays the ukulele (that will be used in the new birthday song for Ricky)

I changed her design just a bit, now she wears a lot of accessories, mostly pins (bc I headcanon the og Ricky having them) and it's mostly based on Emily Rohm's Penny, while her personality is more like legoland Penny's.

The next is Ocean — the angriest girl in town. Like the og Mischa, she hates her parents (but in this case they aren't adoptive) and their lifestyle, but instead of becoming the most succesful to prove that she's different from them, this Ocean just becomes a total mess and starts hating everyone. Idk if I will make her like shitty rap about money in autotune, but she definetely has a history of stealing stuff from stores, lol.

Design changes: messy hair; she doesn't have a headband and a tie, her shirt isn't fully buttoned up. She wears a sweater vest over it with a short skirt (a dress, actually).

Then we have Constance — the most succesful girl in town. She's a big nerd and spends a lot of her time studying because she wants to be the best. In general she behaves just like original Ocean and treats Noel like Ocean would treat her in the og musical (they're besties, but not really). She's pretty mean and very ambitious. This Constance doesn't have as much love for her town as the og one and she plans to move out (and become a premier minister of Canada, maybe :p) She's the one to make the final vote in this AU and of course she will choose John Doe/Ricky.

I haven't change a lot of things in the design, but her hair isn't dyed anymore, buns are down, she has a tie and maybe some hairpins. In general she looks a bit more tidy

Next one: Noel — the nicest boy in town. A complete opposite to the og Noel, he doesn't want to change anything in his life and enjoys living in Uranium. He's still super homosexual and has a big crush on Mischa, and, as I've said before he's "best friends" with Constance who treats him like shit and makes jokes about how he's never gonna breed👍🏻 /ref

He's really insecure about himself, but very friendly with everyone else (especially Mischa). He still enjoys all the french stuff, but you know, in a less... horny... way. And his mother is a baker and Noel often helps her in their cafe

He now has a short-sleeved shirt, round glasses and half of his hair is purple (it's also a bit more messy). In general I didn't change a lot in his design, but I made him such an UwU softie boy /j

Then, Mischa — the most romantic boy in town (ah yes, this one is for you, Mischa simps). He's still in love with Talia and his backstory is the same, but instead of becoming an angry rapper, he became a sad romantic guy, who dreams about moving to Ukraine with his (probably non-existing) internet fiancé. He just wants to be happy :(

Design changes: his clothes and hair aren't that messy anymore and he has a black jacket (like the one chance theatre Noel had). Also his nails are usually black or any other dark shade!!

And! Finally! My best creation yet — John Doe!Ricky. Perhaps, the rest of the choir doesn't remember him (well, in fact they do remember him, but it's a different theory and I don't want to bring it here) because he couldn't talk and no one really noticed him. The only person he was pretty close with was Penny, but still, they weren't even friends, they just standed close to each other while the choir was performing and both sat in the back of a rollercoaster when the accident happened. There will be a role-swapped version of the Savannah scene, but I don't know what name should I use instead of Savannah yet (if you have any ideas, please drop them in the comments!! I'll be very grateful)

When he gets choosen by Constance he'll came back to life as Ricky and yes, he WILL remain disabled because I'm a very big Ricky fan + a very big ableism hater, don't expect that shit from me👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Also he will still have 14 cats because. Why not. I love cats.

The only thing that will change is the fact that he's a little happier now?? People around him treat him better and he doesn't have to fantasize about fucking cat-people from Zolar to be happy lol. Oh man I'm writing a bit too much about him sorry I just love this guy a lot. Bless his little heart

Finally, about his design: honestly he's just a yassified version of this picture /hj

Okay, so he has a head stolen from some super swag dressed in a Bowie-like style doll that for some reason was in the warehouse. He has a big purple star around one of his eyes and some parts of his hair are also colorful (purple/blue/pink). His clothes isn't very different, but maybe I'll add some more accesories

Well, that's all atm. I will try my best to make some content for this and keep developing this idea and I really really hope you will like it!

Ok so I have a in progress owl house AU with the bat family. Now they don't really easily paste into the existing roles so there has to be a bit of editing and small changes. Here is the current role swap list.

Luz: Duke Thomas

Amity: Tim Drake (THIS IS A PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP!!!!)

Gus: Cass?? Maybe?? May give her a more dramatic backstory that Gus and that she left the "Emperors Coven" a while ago???? And she'd be older making Steph the younger one of the 2.

Willow: Steph??? Bc of the relationship between Willow and Amity?? Not quite accurate to Tim and Steph but drama?? Maybe?? Post breakup??

King: IDK YET LMAO

Hooty: Alfred...? Posh hooty....

Hunter: Damian

Golden Guard: Jason Todd

Ok so that needs some explaining, I kinda had to split that character into two because Jason could "die" and then come back as the crimson guard, but Damian fulfills the role of having been related to the Emperor. It'll be weird but kinda work?? I think??

I'm also not sure if I'll make Damian a grimwalker. I may be able to make him one that Talia may have raised?? In replacement of her old child she had with Bruce before they split??

Raine: Talia?? This could be so cool actually (Talia fits better in this role but It would be fun to have superbat. Unlikely though)

They aren't aren't related but I feel like they got the vibes. Also idk if Dickbabs will be a thing here. I think it may have been a childhood relationship but they're almost outta school and Dicks with Kory.

if anyone has suggestions for who King may be lmk or how some changes in this could work??

Robin is a palisman that transfers around, Dick Grayson had it first, it being a palisman of one of his parents before they passed. When Jason started to hang around him and Bruce at the bathouse it eventually transfered over to him, and then transferred to Tim afterwards.

Dick Grayson did get a new palisman eventually though!! And it's reminiscent of Nightwing.

Jason does die and gets brought over to the Emperor and becomes the Crimson Knight and is stationed with Damian a lot. So missions Damian goes on, he is there as back up (As per request of Talia). He's a lot like the Young Justice Redhood at this point and my design is also reminiscent of that.

Tim's got the mid parents, may lean into the way Amity's parents are. He also doesn't have older siblings there to help out until Duke shows up and convinces him to go stay at bathouse permanently or something. (Dick and Babs do have a friendship with him though at school and try to get him to go to Dicks house more often but he doesn't)

Haven't thought about Stephs situation enough so if anyone has any ideas!!

As for covens, (I haven't thought about them enough RIP, will be added to as I get my act together)

Dick: Illusionist (Bruce doesn't have as bad of a relationship with the school as Eda did, though it did get worse after Dick started going!!"

My thought process was Illusionist is a very performative coven and he is a performer at heart <3

Jason: Bard Coven

I wanted to draw him with a guitar. Sue me. (It was a tiktok lmao I can't remember if I had any real reasoning)

Kory: Construction Coven

Because I could see her wanting to make things and she's strong

Duke Thomas: light glyphs so many light glyphs

He's gonna go through the Luz route and found the Bad Bat Coven (tm)

Bruce: Head of Bad Bat Coven

what kind of hcs have you thought for your OCs recently?

The word HC is so weird for OCs bc like...I decide the canon the source is my head. LOL. I mean I also use the term HC for OCs but every time I'm like. Huh.

Anyway ummm. IDK who u are so I don't know exactly how familiar u are with any of them! But recently I talked w my best friend about an OC of mine, Andy, who's maybe my favorite overall I think. He's a calico trans catboy FSSW and I love him so much. But while he's definitely really really good at navigating social stuff and being seductive and charismatic and all that, he also has a POWERFUL glare. He can hit you with the side eye and make you feel like an empty Capri Sun if he thinks what you said was remarkably stupid.

Ummm also my OC Mod is usually an android, but in AUs where I make them human, they're a AK amputee and since they're like. An engineering whiz (in their original canon they create/modify parts for other androids and swap out a lot of their own parts often) they like to do a lot of fun stuff messing with their prosthetic. They'll mostly leave the socket alone ofc but they'll make prosthetics that light up or have compartments or whatever. Swiss army leg. They like to show it off a lot, which connects to their canon bc as an android, they stand out a lot by not looking like other people/androids. They don't have any desire to imitate regular humans or even look like other androids, they take a lot of pride in being (literally, mostly) self-made and different.

Also my OC Marie, after escaping from a very traumatic experience that lasted a few years, couldn't speak for a while. IDK what the technical term is, but she's mostly mute. The lady that took her in/later becomes her partner helped her use an AAC app on an iPad or something similar, but even that took a little bit. She mostly just said yes or no. (She ends up mostly verbal later on though.)

🍊—Who’s a character you don’t write for that often, but keep meaning to write for more? (They’re so interesting! But maybe you have trouble pinning them down, or keep getting distracted by another blorbo)

Layla and Jake from MK auGHh! They both have sm n I have several fic ideas to go more in depth on Jake specifically, but in most of what I have now they’re often relegated to interaction or side appearances even tho they give me sO MANY THOUGHTS!! I think that’s part of the issue bc most ideas would b longer and more involved n I rly only am doing short stuff atm. I rly gotta do some stuff with them soon tho!

🍍—What kind of AUs do you like? Are there any AUs you hate or just generally have beef with?

Honestly I’m not much of an AU man, I more like stuff that plays with small tweaks or missing pieces of canon over drastic changes, as for me at a certain point it doesn’t feel like the characters I want to explore anymore. There are exceptions ofc but yeah, generally. Overall I like role swap AUs? I think they can give a good look at how characters got to where they are and how they address issues differently, but again that’s sort of playing in canon sandbox as well. Idk if timeloop counts as an AU or a trope but I like that as well, as well as stuff that’s more… switch around pieces but general universe is the same.

Beef wise, I don’t like no power aus for super heroes if there’s nothing else interesting or it’s not exploring like “this isn’t how it should be” type stuff. Same for modern Star Wars stuff w no aliens or paralleling structures like those? Are just guys now? Those are not the same guys? Both make a lot of conflicts feel less there and changes a lot of fundamentals. Also not a big fan of fantasy AUs for non fantasy properties? But that’s my personal issues w not being as much of a fantasy guy unfortunately 😭 Idk. I’m just not rly an AU guy haha.

🥝—What’s your favorite trope/AO3 tag to write?

Ig nonsexual (but also sometimes sexual) intimacy and 5(or however many)+1’s.

For the first it’s something about exploring people physically, and seeing the ways they find connection and boundaries with touch and contact, it’s just rly fun for me. I loVe sense of self exploration and how sensory input is felt and wanted is a huge part of that. Also has a lot of good descriptors, with warmth and rough/softness, hair texture, eyes and noses and stomachs. Good stuff. Can be gentle or sad or sexy or sweet and I always find at least a bit in all of my stuff.

For the second it’s similar in an examination sense, but more abstract, about seeing the space the character(s) take up and the reactions they have under certain circumstances. It can explore a swath of themes and moments, give a net cast if the characters life and how they’ve moved through it, and it’s relatively bite sized depending on how you go at it, making it perfect for the writing momentum that keeps me going.

🍇 —Is there a particular scene/episode/book/etc that you want to just write a million fics about, over and over? Which one?

Honestly probably a lot but I am sO bad at rmring stuff so this is kinda more like? Topics? From the top of my head: Miguel and Gabriella stuff from ATSV, Moon Knight stuff to do with the duat and with Gus, Miguel holding Mayday briefly, uhhh honestly just all of moon knight actually but JDHBDB that’s to be expected. Also post canon W359 but that’s less canon n more the whole shebang.

i read fanfic but like. not that many? im picky and similar to you i also engage w/ stuff a lot more thro fanart and shitposts and just thinking (often i end up doing the inverse where my hcs and interpretations get so niche it alienates me from anything too in depth fandom-wise but generally im self aware of that i think lol) fanfic in some ways is harder imo bc the level of fan engagement requires stronger commitment but is just as easy to fuck up as anything else

whether it's style or grammar or characterization it's so easy to lose ppl (at the same time i also realize ppl are p easily please bc god knows how many times i see popular fics and am Baffled by the cliche choices i find tiring) but yeah fic basically requires a level of feeling that goes deeper than "oh this is cool" and ia, you're right abt the whole "what's in my head is always better and cant be replicated outside of it."

(oddly enough nge is one where i'd feel legitimately interested in a role swap bc the characters feel fuller than archetypes, but bc of that same reason, the complexities of the characters are so prickly and weird that it's hard to imagine it being legitimately intriguing as a full story without coming off as trite or gimmicky)

tl;dr: all writing is hard lol

I feel like I’ve never really been into something with a massive fanbase so I never got to experience what people into, idk, Harry Potter, feel of having a gazillion fanfics out there to choose of all kinds. And I’m thankful because a fanbase being as massive as Harry Potter sounds like a pain in so many ways, I just wanna have fun with my friends.

NGE was the first thing that came to mind but yeah it’s a pretty particular example because I’m sure it works different from other works, but at the same time I feel like it’s a really good example of how if you changed their environment, the characters would be different characters. Wait shit NGE had like its own high school AU in the last episode where everyone was different and better adjusted. Fuck.
