now it's two out of three nights that kia forum staff have transphobically microaggressed me at the my chemical romance concert. i'm really tired tbh i just want to exist but they are going out of their way to give me shit. i was really hoping that these shows would be a safe place to be visibly gnc but i guess not!!
#on wednesday i was misgendered & hit on by the guy who scanned my ticket#and today a security guard prevented me from entering my preferred restroom#tbh i might tweet @ the band members about the bathroom thing to see if they could have port a potties on the balcony or sth#bc this is bullshit. i know they love their trans fans

asdfghjk listen, that post wasn't actually a Critique, i just thought it's funny and if teppei has to die from scara's actions, we might as well both support trans wrongs and make it fun, i don't actually hate teppei or think he was the real archon quest problem haha
i would like to finish replaying inazuma questline before writing anything in depth, but things which are obvious already:
1.pacing is GARBAGE. it goes from slow to too quick to too slow to wayyy too quick to stopping in its tracks to force u on a date with ayaka on gunpoint, than again way too quick through rebellion parts. and like i'm not an ayaka hater and i know her fans love that quest, but it should've been just a separate story quest like all others. it has NOTHING to do with the story. At least Yoimiya's is connected, though I'd either separate it too or trim the fat on it a lot, but ayaka's is just what feels like several hours of meandering bullshit. i had to wait 10 minutes of real time to make cheese to make her pizza and it was just the start
2.because we had to waste hours going on dates, rebellion part moves at breakneck speed when it tries to do too many things at once: it wants to endear and make you care about common rebellion soldiers, it wants to make you feel like you're earned respect and command position of your team by them giving u trials, it wants to have a cool battle where kokomi is shown to be smart, and it wants to have fatui schemes with delusion effects shown developing gradually via teppei.
what ends up happening is that we do a lot of fetch quests, the battl is not properly set up so it ends up feeling small, and kokomi is shown kinda stupid instead of genius strategist.
3.more on kokomi. kokomi's only triumph is the win of that one battle, but its invalidated in hindsight bc she won by hiring mercenaries, but she hired them using money she blindly accepted, and they ended up being fatui's and it lead to the delusion crisis. like she didn't win bc of any great strategies, she won bc she was bankrolled and manipulated by fatui.
i think what they should have done is first of all, cut ayaka hostage situation, have the battle happen IMMEDIATELY as we arrive, have kokomi win by being brilliant and using her fish as spies or whatever, then combine the "endear and make you care about common rebellion soldiers" (rn happens before battle when u go with teppei around) and "make you feel like you're earned respect and command position of your team by them giving u trials" (now happens after trial when kokomi gives u swordfish team). teppei should just be a loser in swordfish team instead of wasting all that time at the start. then have a SECOND battle (it's a fucking war and we barely fight rn) and thats where fatui setup can happen. this way we establish kokomi as great strategist independent of fatui, make the bonding with rebellion more focused, have more cool action, and fatui schemes are still included.
4. raiden fans dont interact, biggest inazuma problem is raiden woobyfycation at the eleventh hour that immediately disregards both consequences of her actions and other character arcs, but also makes her seem as the dumbest jock in teyvat. instead of her having coherent vision, its just oh its her twin who was smart, raiden herself just didn't know that ppl have feelings, this is why she knowingly let fatui start civil war. but i think i'll talk about it later when i finish the whole inazum

So I was scrolling through tiktok and I saw a video by the tiktoker Dylan Mulvaney, who, if you don't know who she is, she's a white trans woman who has made quite the successful brand around documenting her transition. She's well known for her daily "Day X of Being a Girl" videos. I think she's a genius for this honestly. She's doing a lot of work making transness approachable for cishets and has been very responsive to answering questions and I'm glad she's using her whiteness for that. I'm glad she's using the privilege and platform she has, truly.
But today I saw a video of her (bc she's an actor) singing Reflection from Mulan, and it was an immediate turn off for me. I closed the app and was feeling quite the mix of rage and frustration. On one hand, to me the song is very much about not feeling female or feminine as a person raised as a woman, but after thinking I can see where a trans woman would also feel kinship with the lyrics.
But the bigger part of my frustration was that Dylan is white. She is a white woman with a large platform singing a song that is from such an iconic asian character. Especially now, when asian americans are still facing so much violence and dehumanization from white americans, now is not the time to divorce Mulan from the fact that she is Chinese. Yes, I know the movie is very far removed for the actual story, yes I know that disney sucks in so many ways and I know I've been vocal about that in the past.
Here's the thing. As a child of the 90s Mulan was it for me in terms of pop culture. Strangers would call me one of two things back then, Mulan or Madama Butterfly. I don't need to tell you why thats fucked up, but I will say that having been a victim of sexual assault as a child and turning around and being compared to a woman who has become the epitome of American idolization and objectivation of asian bodies really didn't help.
Mulan was it for me. I like many felt a connection to her I couldn't explain in words. As an adult realizing that I'm trans, it was inextricably linked with how my family would see it, see me.
So when I say that I'm angry that Dylan covered the song, I mean that there was so little for people like me. The millenials and early gen z trans asian kids. We had Mulan, and its so frustrating seeing white creators cover her without a thought and be celebrated for their "vision". I'm tired of whit people seeing asian as approximate to white, because we have always been treated as "badically white" when convenient and "no better than uneducated dirty dog eaters" or worse the rest of the time.
I'd love to actually comment on Dylan's video because I think she'd probably be willing to have the conversation, but I think her fans would absolutely dogpile me first, and I don't want to go through that bullshit

I truly wish there were as many canon trans and neurodivergent characters as you guys want there to be so y'all could find the representation you crave instead of making a headcanon about every single character designating them as an autistic king when they're just like, shy. Imo being OOC in fanworks is a cardinal sin. What you're doing has to fit within the parameters of the original work, otherwise it feels like cheating at the game. It's more fun when you can keep a recognizable whole even with this new element. Most creators do not intend to code their characters as trans or ADHD or whatever. That is a reading you are bringing to the text, which is fine, except for when the character's psychology and story arc doesn't fit, especially if they have another identity that is explicitly explored and given nuance in the text. Some things are actually about what they say they're about. Don't take the Yentl out of Yentl, you know? It's stretching credibility and misreading the text. It takes me back to sitting through literature classes and having to listen to people who didn't read or understand the assignment talking loudly and being wrong about it. We need more trans and ND characters out there so I can stop having to wade through OOC fic that's really just about the author. If you want to write about your OC, just write about your OC, don't pretend that's Crowley Good Omens. Engage with what's there. Add a little spice, sure, bring an overlooked aspect to the forefront with some tweaking, supplement with a fun thought experiment (what if the cast of Friends were fighter pilots?), even draw attention to a complete absence, but don't just bulldoze over the actual content to flatten the story into what you want it to be.
Like, for example, there was a romance novel retelling of Pride and Prejudice where Eliza moonlights as a stripper. Patently ridiculous. Elizabeth Bennet's whole thing is that she is authentic and doesn't perform for people bc she finds artificiality ridiculous. She's a very cut-the-bullshit character in a world where people have to pretend to be respectable or in love (looking at you, Charlotte "she should have flirted more and fallen in love after landing him" Lucas, how'd that work out for you) or rich so they can get what they want, and that's where the tension lies between her and the stuffy aristocrats and their hangers-on like Caroline and Mr. Collins. She doesn't try to impress anyone and that makes her different. So for her to do burlesque, which is all about manipulating others' perception of her, is at odds with her defining trait. You're writing someone else.
What if the priest in Fleabag wasn't a priest, what if he was a neurosurgeon? That's a new story, my man.
I don't really have a point, I'm just venting about how annoying it is to have to scroll past uninteresting and repetitive and OOC content. At the end of the day it's harmless and you can do what you want.
I want everyone to be able to find what they're looking for in a story without having to paint over half of it. We're getting more and more beautifully written gay and racially diverse content and I just wish the rest of this site's overlooked identities would be up there too. Autistic, ADHD, occasionally bpd or bipolar, ace, disabled, chronic pain, and trans are the big ones I see recur a lot in headcanons and it just sucks that fans have to shoehorn them in.

probably his resilience bc despite all the shit being thrown his way from every single direction all the time, he's Still going. he died TWICE and he's still going!!! the second time round was just like a minor inconvenience to him at that point. like the whole situation with ruthie, being cheated on, and now the great ordeal of Killing in order to survive would have most Definitely broken most people, but he hasnt once let any of that stop him. sure he has some MAJOR self confidence issues and has come close to just ending it all more than a handful of times, but he always drags himself back onto his feet and keeps on going, Just in Case it gets better. AND IT DOES!!
which then translates to his greatest weakness being how Stubborn he is. if theres a problem that Very Likely cannot be solved, or at least very easily + within a reasonable timeframe, he will NOT stop working at it anyway. because he can't let himself stop. the second he stops moving, working etc he starts Thinking. and the thinking is where he falters and starts to wonder whether it's all Worth It in the end, so the stubborness is like. a huge coping mechanism

having weird and mixed feelings about tsr more and more
(to our knowledge) he isnt a violent or physically abusive towards people so it's not a cut out and leave to pasture immediately
this is selfish but i can deal/accept his random outburst/being an asshole to randos, for the narrative and characters of tsr.
BUT
- under paying/being fucking weird to artist is something im really against. idk who it is, but if its who i think it is ima be PISSED. i fucking yell at my artists for projects to let me pay them more and have infinite time
- i didn't think of the red/d situation as a toxic work environment thing until someone pointed it out. that makes it a LOT shittier than him just being an ass (something i to easily overlooked/swept past tbh)

So Says The Sword*** - explicit/85k. FUCK its good...au/time travel where dean is not pulled out of hell by cas and says yes to becoming the michael sword. honestly could serve as an alternative to actually watching the show, if you want to get into dean/cas without actually doing that to yourself.
Fata morgana.* - teen/6k, pst s9 finale. very bela centric and i love it, she finds cas looking for dean in hell.
Redemption Road -misc/600+k. an incredibly long fic from a collaborative writing group back in the day. canon divergent from the end of s6 on, has a cool take on godstiel and the leviathans, as well as the lovecratian mythos connection. ngl when i reread it i only made it about 28% in but imo the casual reader can actually stop around there, the rest concerns a lovecraftian apocalypse that is still good (i think i don’t remember it very well) but not required to enjoy the first half. if you prefer i have an ebook version i can send you on gdrive.
Someone Who's Feeling For Me* - mature/45k, s12. they run into lisa braeden and dean thinks cas is into her while cas thinks dean still likes her. treats lisa way better than the show ever did and the miscommunication is pretty funny rather than annoying.
a turn of the earth - mature/95k. time travel fic where cas from s10 keeps showing up in deans life from a few years before s1 to right before the hellhounds take his soul. slow burn, good character study, and at one point cas punches the dad in the face and it rules.
On the Wings of War - teen/85k, canon divergent s5. dean accidentally becomes the Horseman of War. plays fun, fast and loose with biblical lore, michael has some rights.
Named - mature/95k, alternate s5. EXTREMELY blasphemous in a fun sexy way. manages to predict metatron almost to a T. there’s one major character death and its literally jesus christ, everyone is very sad about it and it sets the rest of the story rolling. an alternate interpretation of cas’ mission to raise dean from hell which had me on the floor. ngl its kind of misogynistic at points, but its from 2010 and tracks with late oughts-2010 spn (sorry anna the author did you dirty here:/).
The Girlfriend Experience - explicit/15k. uhhh i don’t normally rec or even read smutty stuff unless someone i know is specifically asking for it but this has stuff like sam trying to be a good ally and dean thinking holding hands with cas is ‘kinda gay :/’ minutes after having gay sex with him.
i crippled your heart a hundred times - explicit/19k, s8. cas confesses his feelings and dean spends a long time getting his head out of his ass about it. truly hits different after the actual confession, despite being written six years early it feels like its actually what could have gone down more or less if the writers weren’t talentless demons who hate us.
My Roots Take Flight** - mature/125k. reverse au where cas is a hunter and dean’s an angel...OR IS IT???? an alternate retelling of s4. tw for briefly being set in a psychiatric hospital/the hospital being mentioned somewhat frequently throughout the fic, plus more references to torture in hell and heaven than usual.
The One Thing You Can't Lose* - teen/4k.you know those posts about how cas is a super-strong super-tough ancient warrior but he just lets dean tug him around because he likes it? thats it thats the fic.
Hands, From Which All Things Are Built - teen/14k, post s8′s ‘goodbye stranger.’ cas is on the run with the angel tablet but keeps in touch with sam and dean by text, he and dean still manage to be terrible at Actual communication.
Autrement, Danger - or, The Account of an Exceedingly Long Day - mature/30k, post s11. a monster that takes the appearance of your soulmate leads to some wild miscommunications and dealing with years of repression, also dean gets to see cas’ true form which is always cool. tw for non-graphic mentions of underage sexual assault/sex work.
Down to Agincourt - mature/explicit/900++++k, endverse continuation. endverse!cas survives his encounter with lucifer and discovers another time-displaced dean from s7. i’ve only read the two of four parts but its really good, veeeeery slow burn, has a lot of fun oc’s and takes a rather surprising but (imo) entertaining and intriguing turn into Hellenic history and mythology. usual tw’s for endverse/endverse!cas but nothing graphic, it’s actually pretty light-hearted (relatively speaking of course).
Nothing Equals the Splendor** - explicit/8k, THEE finale fix it fic you’ve been waiting for! posits that the entire final episode was just a (very bad and lame) djinn’s vision.
like moses and batman and james dean - explicit/31k, post s8. explores dean’s trauma and internalized homophoba from his technically canon experience with sex work and its impact on his relationship with cas. the sex work itself isn’t really shown in any detail but it’s still a relatively heavy fic.
Crazy Diamonds - explicit/25k, s4/alternate s14. fresh-out-of-hell dean and dean from 10 years in the future are displaced from time and sent to each other’s present.
where the weeds take root - explicit/30k. au where the men of letters kick them out of the bunker and they accidentally move out into the country, get over their codependence and semi retire. featuring chicken coop building, sam volunteering at a dog shelter, gardening, and blissfully mundane domesticity.
No Resting Place - teen/6k. djinn dream fic, switches back and forth between cas’ dream of being married to dean and retired from hunting to the aftermath when he wakes up. tw for brief mention of suicide since, y’know, djinn dream.
any port in a storm - mature/52k. post s8 finale. cas and dean have to pose as a couple going through a rough patch for a case and actually deal with their emotional baggage, cas struggles with being human and metatron is up to stuff.
all this and heaven too* - explicit/7k. in the author’s own words ‘...a love letter to every trans person who ever projected onto Dean Winchester.’ absolutely unzipped me emotionally and theologically, its just. so good. tw for very brief mentions of internalized transphobia/dysphoria.
Because it is* - mature/6k, finale fix it. killing chuck does not bring back anyone back and the winchesters spend a very long time dealing with what they’ve lost, cas and dean SOMEHOW still manage to have signifigant communication issues even after the confession. tw for suicidal thoughts/brief attempt.
Vena Amoris and Other Old-Fashioned Bullshit* - teen/4k, s6. when cas fell for dean it automatically soulbonded/angel married them, shenanigans ensue when dean finds out during the angel’s civil war. funny and actually written back when s6 was airing so cas is still (or at least pretending to be) kind of an OP asshole which is fun.
Rinse, Repeat - teen/3k, s8. angsty character study of cas as he’s reprogrammed and trained to kill dean. not really dean/cas since its just cas’ pov of canon events but its beautifully written and ends with him snapping out of it through the power of love (also now a canon event!).
Emergence - explicit/59k, canon divergent after s11. dean meets a hunter he only recognizes as their friend claire novak’s missing father, but soon realizes he might be the answer behind the mysterious void in his memories and feelings (aka everyone’s memories of cas are completely wiped away for three years).
Cuckoo And Nest - explicit/10k, early established relationship/character study, cas tries to figure out how he fits into dean’s life and space in the bunker.

All of this bullshit with Yashahime/s-ssr-n stans is just reminding me of the typical "bad/creepo" anime fan. They're in favor of whitewashing. They're in favor of lolis and shotas that are "actually way older than a minor so it's not creepy or disgusting". They're in favor of gr*oming/p*dophilic relationships. Like, I've only recently got into anime and interacting with anime fans. I know damn well that there's normal ones (I'm sending this ask to a normal fan rn). But lord have I heard of the gross anime fans with a million red flags. I didn't expect to come across a loud ass group of them in something related to Inuyasha.

Bloody hell…. I didn’t even realize until you pointed it out, anon! For a second, during the whole Shiori’s debacle last week, after reading their arguments about how we’re racist/colorist if we don’t like Shiori’s light skin even if we are a POC ourselves, it got me thinking “Is it true? Am I in the wrong here? Am I actually being colorist for disliking her lighter skin? Can’t I accept her just like how she is (portrayed)?”. So, if you think that what they did is considered as gaslighting, then yeah their strategy kinda worked. But then I remembered that it’s all Sunrise’s work. I don’t have a faith in them anymore because they even butchered Inuyasha’s character in his OG series. So, no, I decided that I wouldn’t let even one word of theirs to affect me.
The whole loli, shota, racism, colorism, sexism, right to the xeno-, religio, and gay &/ trans- phobia is a tough nut to crack because it’s us, the offended-slash-affected consumers, vs the animation/movie studio and their loyal-to-death fans. What makes it hard is that we can always find people whom being the main target in the pro team. For example, in Shiori’s case discourse it’s not simply white vs POC but it was POC & white vs another POC & white people. Another example, in the campaign against lolicon and shotacon, there are always groomed teenagers (along with their adult groomers) that defend those things. So, it’s hard because we’re being face-to-face with the kind of people that we wish to help :(
So, yeah, it is sad and disturbing 🙂
