Deadpool's voice and its media portrayals

I read this post by @jhirowolf and @spider-mand, which inspired me to make my own post specifically about dp's voice - please read the og post first!

In the comics it's known that Deadpool has a unique voice - his speech boxes are yellow while everyone elses' are white. What makes it unique is its quality (it's described as rough, raspy and gravelly) but I also think that it's its cadence too (i'll get in to this below). Unfortunately, Ryan's voice in the movies doesn't really come close to this - for multiple reasons.

Ryan's voice physically is very smooth and also pretty high but I get the sense that as dp, he doesnt really do much for his voice, he is pretty much just himself and cracking jokes. As @jhirowolf pointed out, he kind of has this smooth, sarcastic tone. For me the vibe is that of a stereotypical side-character who mumbles sarcastic comments at whatever the other characters are doing. Ryan's voice is often mellow, calm and even

I dont have concrete examples right now, but in the comics SO many characters call Wade insane mere minutes upon meeting him, despite the fact that they dont know anything about him apart from the fact that he is a mercenary.

Why? Because of his voice!

Immediately upon hearing him talk they conclude he is unhinged and unstable and generally unwell. He's loud, aggressive, speaks a mile a minute and on top of that makes dark jokes serious situations that no one else laughs at. It freaks people out and rightfully so! Adding on to this, I think he varies his pitch and rhythm frequently, further making him appear unstable because his voice is never even or monotone for more than a few seconds. I'm basing this on the fact that his speech bubbles are so much bigger than everyone else's (he talks a lot) and also bc he varies his facial expressions and body language a lot when he speaks.

@jhirowolf mentions that Denis Leary was the inspiration for his voice, which i had no idea about but looking at this video, I think his cadence is perfect. You feel that unlimited energy, the loudness, the unpredictableness, his voice and the look behind his eyes make him seem manic and frantic - which it should! It puts people on edge around him, gives him his reputation of being unpredictable and also makes him regard him as insane. Wade doesnt give a shit about norms for socializing, how loud or crass he is - hes got shit to say and hes gonna say it, no matter how much it may annoy, offend or make others uncomfortable

Nolan's voice, on the other hand, isn't perfect either bc it kind of has the similar smooth quality as ryans, its not gravelly, raspy or anything. But his cadence is soo good! He's calm one minute but you never know when he's gonna snap and lose his shit, i love it

And yeah, Nolan's performance and the funny moments are the only good thing to come out of this game (well i guess another positive is that it made him more popular, it certainly was one of my first encounters which made me interested in him). The bad thing is the amount of damage it did to the complexity of dp's character - they stripped away his layers, the serious and tragic parts that make up who he is, instead of this they literally gave him 1 trait - insane. And that was it. I blame Way's 2008 run for this bc he essentially did the same thing - but the game turned it up to 11. Way at least included several serious and earnest moments where Wade was forced to be introspective and face his issues

in conclusion - so far our ears havent yet been blessed to hear wade's voice

anyway so like. it appears to be an universal buff for her p much? but how big of a buff it ends up being depends on some mechanics we still dont have a definite answer as to how they function (mostly how her BoL stacking from E works during the ECAQECA reset thing, if it enables 140% total stacking = massive dmg buff overall)

firstly my fears of her becoming too ult dependent for overworld appear to be? not as bad as i thought? so thats nice at least very pog like if she can do her thing decently enough just for fun running around thats very good

secondly. the ER situation is literally on a 50-50 😭 because its all about whether she has particle ICD on her E. if she doesnt, thats actually like. 0 ER needed or at the very least incredibly little of it. if there is particle ICD. well. thats going to be another story

the way her rotations have changed now seem to gear her towards overload teams with chevy? since they have very long rotations and characters like fischl and yae can have full uptime over those whereas vape teams lose hydro application from yelan or XQ and buff uptime from characters like bennett over time when a rotation stretches past 24s

like from what ive been reading it seems to be a pretty common sentiment that these buffs will make the biggest impact in chevy overload teams specifically (even tho shes obvi buffed just in general in all teams) for that reason and that chevy teams Especially w her at c6 with arle should be the best bennettless teams ultimately. which is definitely an interesting turn ?

(and this isnt all of the changes btw im just talking abt the ones that matter most for my considerations rn)

anyway. my thoughts then.

so im obviously glad the changes turned out to be buffs so far. but. theres still stuff im a bit. ehhhhhhhh on

firstly the survivability situation (which in turn leads back to the teambuilding issues). bc her self heal did get nerfed. so arles no longer going to be able to risk taking very high dmg during a rotation and dragging herself back to full once the next one starts. which to me feels like an emphasis on dmg mitigation for her and shielding.

(not to even get started on the. spam NAs to reduce her now 30s E cooldown so its up in time for the next rotation meaning you Do Not want to be staggered and tossed out of her attack string. and gee would you look at that! neuvillette level interruption res on c1 now! great!!)

(like again. to be clear. its hard to say exactly how much interruptions to her NA spam will end up fucking her over. i could just be overtly wary about how bad it might feel. but at its worst. with enemies that run away from u or go invincible. or stunlock you. the fact that it will at least heavily risk arles ability to reduce her E cooldown the amount she needs for fluid rotations. could definitely end up feeling like shit to play in practice without that interruption resistance. be it from c1 or a shied)

but then if we go back to her synergies and look at. those more interesting (imo) chevy teams that should perform well even without bennett. like arle/chevy/fischl/yae. whos keeping ur arle from dying there 😭 its giving lyney spreadsheet impact vs actual reality trying to play him without a shield 😭😭 guess we know who he got it from...

and yea could replace yae for beidou for damage reduction but her dmg will TANK in single target. as a whole. defensive options list in pyro/electro units only just isnt that good. beidous the one who tanks team dps the least as long as ur in AoE, but outside of that its just. thoma and dehya. and they will 100% tank the team dps

whereas defensive options like zhongli to me feel like they will just end up w her teams just wanting to lean towards that. traditional vape and mono pyro angle. bennett and kazuha and yelan/XQ. the usual stuff. and shes not getting benny and kazuha from childe so we have an issue 💀💀

unironically i will prolly be looking for some double geo zhongli/chiori/yelan vape team calcs for arlecchino (hope someone makes them. all double geo team calcs ive seen so far assume bennett 😭) just out of curiosity in terms of. how much worse it is than her best teams. bc if i can just slap her in that setup its a big bonus to how flexibly i could use her but eh. prolly will end up weaker than any chiorinavia nation core i could play so who knows

but. all this yapping and im only now getting to the point JSWJKDWJKWDJK so. heres the BIG problem

i dont have a single fucking chevrolet 💀 but i do have like 38 pity on a guarantee.

and like people are suggesting that maybe chevy will be on arles banner and fair, especially with these new beta changes incentivizing arle chevy teams way more than before, it would definitely make sense for hoyo to put chevy with her. and i definitely am overall a fan of this possible chevy overload team direction for arle (anything thats not bennett for father. ANYTHING) so id love for that to be the case

but. thats not guaranteed at all. and the same sentiment i had over arlecchinos hypothetical best support in the form of the pyro archon (or honestly. with the lack of electro shielders for chevy teams even clorinde could end up being that missing piece) where id almost rather wait to guarantee that synergistic unit before getting arle herself on a rerun. actually applies to chevy here too. even just a c0 one

and like. yes. if i spend that guarantee now on c2 chiori. and it turns out chevy is indeed featured with arlecchino. i will Not be able to guarantee her anymore - ill get one 50-50 and all the chances for a few solid chevy copies on the way but thats it.

however. the other scenario here is that arle does NOT get chevy. she gets fucking. kaveh noelle mika. and then chevy is going to rerun with like. idk. random banner. clorinde who may or may not have synergy with arle

...and im not really sure if id even want to pick arle up on that guarantee from that sort of banner SJKDKJADJKDJK but ok id skip her. buuut im still sitting on a guarantee i might not want to use on a character i feel just eh abt. but who might be with chevy (and like. i do pull for 4* when im on a 50-50 and low pity, idm the early. so as long as thats the case i can see myself tossing a few pulls at Any chevy banner in the future).

... which brings us back to. okay yeah saving the guarantee for clorinde IF chevy isnt with arle and IF shes an electro shielder sub dps support for those arle chevy teams. and getting arle on rerun as ive considered. doesnt sound that bad. but clorinde might also Not be that. uncertainty uncertainty.

like im fairly sure clorinde Will be an unit i wont mind pulling at 17 pity xianyun style on a 50-50 no matter what. but if shes not that mythical arle BiS support she prolly wont be worth that guarantee is my whole complex here lmao

whereas. c2 chiori. isnt an uncertain factor here. like im investing in her im getting her c6 eventually, c2 is like almost 25% personal dps increase (also my husk pieces LOVE rolling ER so itd actually be useful) it feels like the "safe" option in a sense ya know???

like. yes id leave arlecchino up to a coin toss . (Jail for jen!! fake lesbian!!!) but id also be left with the option of skipping her banner (if no chevy rateup to be clear) in favor of seeing whether she gains any synergistic units in the future and seeing how the various aspects of her kit that i do somewhat worry about end up panning out ?? and i think. id be fine with that ? Over the alternative

ultimately tho. im super happy arle got overall buffed and that at least some of my fears abt her kit changes were indeed unfounded, but some concerns still remain. its kinda wild and still sad to me that she went from an absolute 100% must pull character just bc its Her to like. curse of pyro on fielder idk if i Need this right now 😔😔 but i Will be getting her eventually!! no matter what

Why I think Feysand were OOC in ACOSF

I hope that no one misunderstands from the title but let me say this is a 100% PROfeysand post. so if you hated feysand even before acosf, then this post isn't for you.

So i've seen a lot of interesting theories about feysand's and in particular rhys' behaviour and choices throughout acosf. and while alot of them seemed possible and may have been the case canonically speaking, even as a feysand stan i just couldn't seem to wrap my head around some of the things they said and did in the book. they just both seem OOC, its the only pausible explanation for me.

To understand why feysand were OOC in the book we have to look at this through a narrative perspective. as in we have to ask why would the author write the character/s in this way?

a quick overview of what a character arc is

so there can be a lot of variations of a character arc in a story but the basics is as follows (how does the character go from point 'a' to point 'b'):

the 'big lie' - the views/beliefs/actions the character has at the start which will be challenged throughout the story (this is point 'a')

the 'incident' - a plot point in which starts development of the character. something that spurs the character into action, this most ofter happens when they are placed in an unfamiliar situation. this usuallyy is the intial challenge to their 'big lie'. at this point the story will move forward and theres no going back.

the midpoint - the character changes conciously or subconciously, they start to recognise their own flaws in the 'big lie'.

world collaspes - this is usually on the heels of a victory, the character reaches the lowest point in their journey. they finally confront 'the big lie' and forces to stop this deception they inflict on themselves. they can destroy it or it will destroy them.

the climax - the reason for the story. the reason why the character had to take this journey in order to get to this moment. the moment that the character will decide once and for all whether they will go forward to point 'b' or regress back to point 'a'

the resolution - the character reaches point 'b'. their view/beliefs/actions have changed, they no longer believe in the 'big lie'.

So obvisouly the main character in acosf is Nesta. What sjm does in her books is that every plot point and development of secondary characters is in service to the arc of the main character. None of the character's outside of Nesta have their own development. Not even Cassian, any sort of changes or developments he undergoes is in service to Nesta (a complete missed opportunity for Cassian but that a whole other point). And before anyone tries to say otherwise, you can have development for characters even if they are secondary ones (and for a book that is 800+ pages long it is definitely possible). An example is with his can also be seen with Gwyn. Her leaving the library for the first time was a huge moment for the character, but she did so, in order to comfort Nesta after her big fight with Cassian. It was also so that Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie could all be together in Illyria so they could be kidnapped and forced to enter the blood rite (where the final showdown occurs with Nesta and the villan).

so what has this got to do with feysand and why are they OOC?

In fact the entire plot with feyre's pregnancy was made to give chracter developments for Nesta. There was nothing written in the book that suggested any developments for feyre and rhys. it did nothing for them. Nesta needed to become central to the story and the only way sjm thought to keep feyre side lined was to make her pregrnant. It was also just lazy writing and world building bc there is no way that rhys would have though of this when he and feyre were trying for a baby.

SIN #1 The Shields

Rhys practicing shields (shield thats doesn't even allow anyone to even touch her) on feyre, which she just allows. the book explains because of the fact that there is more danger to her now that she's pregnant. Narratively, this would make sense if there is a payoff. Like later in the story if feyre was in physical danger and the shield saves her or if the shield became a detriment to her in some way. But no nothing like this happens. Rhys 'practices' the shield on her and thats it. Rhys, who was the same person that trusted feyre enough defend herself against the weaver. It was totally out of character that he would shield her to the point that Cassian can't even kiss her on the cheek (sounds familiar huh). and the same goes for feyre, who has no problem with this (*cough* tamlin locking her up *cough*). Thats is some OOC behaviour.

So what were the point of the shields? well since sjm made it canon that fae can smell when a female is pregnant, the biggest way they came into play was in the scene when rhys lifted it long enough so that everyone could sense that that feyre was pregnant. And It could have been just that, feyre and rhys were expecting a baby, and Nesta can go along with her development, they did not need to intersect. But it did, and we'll come back to that later. This scene is a lighthearted moment in the book, one of the rare few where all the characters are happy and celebrating a good thing. acofas we knew that rhys and feyre decided to try for a baby, and seeing it pay off here was enjoyable for the readers.

But what else does this scene do? through Nesta's perspective, we can read her thoughts on it, and though she doesn't reveal much its an important character moment for her. the readers can see that she can feel happiness for someone else beyond the self-loathing she guards herself with, it shows that she is a character worth rooting for.

SIN #2 Rhys concealing the dangers of the pregnancy from feyre

oof this one is a doosey. this was the most baffling thing to come out of acosf for me. there is literally no reason or explanation that would make sense for rhys to lie to feyre like that. It offers no development for the two character it affects the most: rhys and feyre. there no fallout on rhys' end for lying to her, and there is no turmoil for feyre such as falling into depair like we told she would (the whole reason that rhys was hiding it in the first place).

When Nesta finds out that the pregnancy was most likely going to kill feyre and the baby. instead of Nesta disagreeing and urging Rhys to tell feyre, she doesn't say anything and forms a temporary truce with him, a character she has always had conflict with. It also serves as the incident that allows Nesta to have her 'world collapse' moment in her character arc. How else was Nesta going to realise what a shitty person is was being if she didn't do something so absolutely shitty? in a fit of rage, Nesta reveals to feyre that the pregnancy was going to kill both her and the baby. she get taken away on a hike in illyria (because???) and she reaches rock bottom after she comes to term with what she did. the story is taken away from velaris and the inner circle, and any conflict and resolution that happens between feyre and rhys, if it even happened at all, happens off page. again furthering my point about the pregnancy having no impact on the two characters is affects the most. After Nesta's fleeting moment of enlightenment, and her swordplay sex marathon with Cassian (urgh) she returns to velaris and nothing has changed between rhys and feyre. there isn't really much of a development with Nesta's relationship with feyre, their 'reconciliation' occurs all of less than one page and doesn't even happen out loud, just mind to mind. Now that Nesta has had her important character moment, nothing else matters (again lazy writing).

SIN #3 Everyone dies

ok so yes everyone has said their two cents about this and i agree with it. Feyre and nyx had to die so that Nesta could have her climax moment. It is the climax of the story since it is the big story development right before the resolution. and about the bargain - feysand decided in acofas that they were going to try for a baby. meaning that it was after this decision that they struck the bargain that they would die together. so at some point they would have thought of the fact they would have a child/children when the both die. im sorry but do they seem like the kind of ppl that would make a suicide pact even if it meant leaving their children behind? TOTALLY OOC for me. and i dont know i guess also the stakes weren't high enough with just the threat of feyre and nyx dying.

So feyre and nyx are dead and rhys will soon follow and Nesta intervenes to save them. Its also a self-sacrificing moment bc she has to give up her powers in order to do this... Showing that she does truely love her family and the depths of her powers. (seriously idc how you stan or hate how does anyone this good book?). don't doubt that in the future books sjm will find a way for Nesta to get her powers back (whatever they are (pure death WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???))

So Nesta saves the day, everyone is fine and nothing has changed except Nesta is nice now probably. the end.

welp this got way longer that i expected but anyways long story short there was nothing about the pregnancy that gave development to feysand characters and it was all for the development of the main character.

i don't claim acosf!feysand and sjm better fucking leave them alone in the rest of the books.

its ok despite all my essays n angst i actually enjoy fluff/comfort the most so have some amongst some toast (i think thats what tubbo said his ghost vers would be?? idk but it is cute) hcs KDNSK

bc alive tubbo has such a difficult time with it i think toast would be bad at dealing with the whole "im a separate person from the alive version of me" deal, it takes a while for him to stop but he does because its painful to refer to himself as tommys best friend or ranboos husband or michaels father and just have that deepset regret when someone has a beat of silence and toast has to go "..or i used to be, i guess, haha"

he starts having fun with it, though. makes his own name for himself, does things he maybe wouldnt have done while alive. experiments with being a ghost, looks more into limbo and the afterlife and what even causes the separation. he doesnt drown himself in it, not truly bound to expectations like alive tubbo was. still works anyways, because he wants to, because tommy deserves his best friend back and ranboo deserves his husband and michael deserves his father. he isnt quiet when he firmly says that the true main reason is because tubbo deserves to be alive and happy and experience his life as himself, and that above all hes doing this because he deserves to find a way for them both to exist, to be happy and their own people and loved by themselves no matter who else loves them.

theres a connection established eventually. if we're to take rp/mc rules here, only one can really be around at a time, toast has to be off while tubbo is on and such. they make it work. if we're to take complete creative liberty, they coexist peacefully, even if awkwardly

tommy learns to be quieter for tubbo, holds a torch for them both whenever they walk in the dark, holds tubbos sleeve when tubbo cant see because he doesnt want tubbo to wander blindly but knows tubbo wouldnt want to be touched and risk reacting harshly to stimulation with touch too. ranboo helps him get used to stimulation again, lets his particles be soft glowing lights for tubbo to contast the bright fireworks, makes him earmuffs for when things are just too loud but tubbo doesnt want to block everything out completely. michaels already quiet, but foolish and his kids help set up fairylights in michaels room and michael makes blanket forts so tubbo can touch the ceiling of them as he lies down and he can exit at any time

its hard, sometimes. but tubbo makes it through, even in the times where others arent around to help. maybe limbo broke him for a bit there, but tubbos good at building, he can build himself back up -🎭🎪 (oh also tubbo being surrounded with soft things in general. the empty endless sky isnt great for keeping warmth, but fluffy blankets and big fur lined coats are)

idk hot take but.... imo? coding isnt. even good. its not a diversity positive thing to ‘’’code’’’ a character. frankly most of the time a character isnt even fucking coded as anything, but even when thats truly the case, its not rly. representation. its half assed, its a cop out decision. it should be like. a last resort for when you Cant represent a trait, like if ur fighting censorship or smth. otherwise................ whats the point of it dude. im rly not trying to be black or white abt it but. minority rep is not the place for requiring ‘analysis’. just represent the fucking trait. if you want people to think your character is a certain thing... blatantly make them the thing. you dont make majorities play guessing games with their rep, why should i let you play me like that. i dont want your symbolism or ‘’’’’’coding’’’’’’. to me its insulting, demeaning, and does nothing for me. and thats just talking about when coding posts end up being Reasonable, 9 times out of 10... its downright eyeroll worthy. now ofc, however you choose to relate to characters is 100% fine, and you viewing their traits as relatable to your through your own minority lens is valid analysis! but its kinda inexcusable to ignore the social harm it causes to just. literally out loud pretend that blatantly coincidental or even Malicious character choices are actually intentional, and that this vague intention would mean anything truly progressive anyways, especially when once again, most of these ‘coding’ essays are written about stereotypes and baiting. coding at this point seems to be just... a fancy word for ‘a headcanon with a little extra analysis to fantasize that this was the truth all along, yaaay everybody agree with me’.

This is such a cute idea! I’m addicted to making weirdly specific Spotify playlists so this is perfect. Where the Trees Grow

Summary: Just testing out the characters of my two TFP OCs, so I thought I’d write this instead of doing the long list of assignments for school I need to do tonight to show you what they’re kind of like--at least with each other. And just putting this out there: They’re friends. Nothing more. Soooooooo............enjoy, I guess.

NOTE ABOUT THE PLANET: I mentioned “Athenia” bc I legit could not remember if in the TFP canon there were any parts of cybertron that had trees and,,,and dirt. So in my panic I remembered the name of the planet the Autobots and their base exist on in “Headmasters” (dont start with me I know this isnt the same universe as that but leave me alone idk what I’m doing either rn) and it had trees and stuff!! So...it fit the bill......Sharpflint is patrolling another nearby planet for,,,reasons. In Transformers canon, that planet does exist so,,,that’s enough on that ^^’’ Just wanted to make the note in case someone is bothered by this,,

uhhh,,,,yeep this is supposed to take place after the war, since Paxie was from one of the first generations after the war; Sharpflint fought in the war as an Autobot so,,,theres that. This isn’t part of anything, it’s just this random thing I wrote,,,because.

By the time Sharpflint raised his eyes to the trees towering over him, it was too late. That rustling sound he’d been hearing all afternoon while on patrol? 

“Woah-woOAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!”

It smacked him right in the face with a resounding ‘CLANG!!’

Actually, she smacked him in the face. 

And knocked him to the ground. 

For a few moments, the two bots laid still in the dirt, trying to process what had just happened. Then, Sharpflint snapped to full consciousness. 

“Get off me,” he snarled, glaring at the figure on top of his. “I’ll throw your tiny body across this clearing, punk.”  

“Oh sure you will. Make me,” came the confident, snarky response. The white-purple femme shut her eyes and went limp, pretending to start snoring. The corners of her lips twitched with the beginnings of a smile. 

Sharpflint was not very amused. 

“Alright then.” 

The red and green mech hefted himself upright, and with startling ease, picked up and tossed his mystery assailant across the small, grassy clearing. Her optics widened the instant he touched her, but she slammed into a tree and slid to the ground before she had a chance to yelp in surprise. 

He smirked slightly, rising to his feet and stalking towards the now-unconscious femme. She made no sound, slumped over against the tree but still breathing. Sharpflint instantly felt just a little guilty. 

That was rough and mean. Maybe a little too mean. He rubbed the side of his face frustratedly. 

You idiot. You don’t throw people. Oh Primus, Ratchet won’t be happy about this, that’s for sure. 

He huffed a long sigh and opened his comm.

“Hey, doc. It’s ‘Flint. Paxie left the premises. Are you aware of this fact?”

A groan from the other end gave him his answer. 

“Again? But I told her she--”

“Well, enough of that. Somehow she followed me to Athenia and now she’s unconscious. Help, I guess?”

“....what did you do to her?”

Oh, Ratchet. The old bot really does know everything, doesn’t he? 

Sharpflint fought the urge to chuckle in surprise and instead cleared his throat, touching the back of his helm a little awkwardly. 

“I--well, she fell out of a tree and....no, you know what? I get it. I was too rough. Sorry. I’m sending coordinates so you can bridge her back,” He paused, seeing her twitch slightly. “Hurry, doc-bot. She’s not staying for long.”

“Sharpflint,” Ratchet said, his tone seeming to weigh more than one single word. There was a long silence. Then, he simply sighed again. “Never mind, you know what I’m going to say, don’t you?.”

“You’re a good bot, Ratchet. I’ll tell her when she wakes up.” 

“W...when who...aHK--” Paxie winced, slouching over and gripping her midsection. “Pain pain pain pain pain pain owww....” She murmured in a tiny voice, squeezing her optics shut and rocking back and forth. 

Sharpflint raised an eyebrow, then hung up on Ratchet. As he stepped closer to her to help her up, a groundbridge portal tore into the air next to them. Paxie cracked open her eyes a little as the pain subsided, eyeing first the bridge, then the red-green mech, currently holding out his servo. She pouted, gritting her teeth and pushing off the ground by herself.

“Jerk.” 

“Hey, you know, that was pretty reckless!!” He snapped. Paxie rolled her eyes and pretended to ignore him. 

“You know--” He fumbled for the right words. “You’re lucky the war’s over and this patrol was just an innocent outing!” He blurted a little clumsily, quickly starting to feel slightly annoyed again. Paxie suppressed her urge to laugh out loud for the sake of her old and new injuries. 

“And what the scrap does that have to do with anything, you jerk? Why’d you throw me against a fragging tree?!” 

“I’m just SAYING--” the mech bit his tongue and cut himself off, sighing. Too loud, too angry, definitely too rude a tone to be using with her. He chided himself internally for being so rough and for...being a jerk. “Look, you hurt yourself falling off the top of a ladder you weren’t supposed to be climbing in that library! I’ve seen bots lose their lives going for a refuel.”

“Which is terrible and I’m sorry. But why are you bringing this up, Flint?” She narrowed her eyes, letting her arms fall to the side. 

“Because if you had followed me out here during the War, you’d have been at risk of dying.”

Paxie went quiet. Not because she felt guilty or that she understood. But something about the calm finality of his words made her insides shift around. Relenting, the white-purple femme sighed and started into the bridge. 

“I’ll stay with Ratchet,” she mumbled. “Sorry.”

Sharpflint felt a brief pang of guilt. 

“Hey, Paxie?” 

She turned, looking a little subdued. “I know it was stupid, I’m sorr--”

“No, don’t apologize. I was a jerk. I’m sorry.”  

Paxie folded her arms. “And?”

“And...I need to get my head out of the past. The war’s over. I shouldn’t be so aggressive.” She nodded at his words and straightened, heading into the bridge. In turn, the red and green-plated bot swiveled and headed back to his patrol post--

“Silicon’s.” 

Sharpflint jolted at the sound of her voice. What? What does she want now? 

Paxie scampered back to the edge of the glowing green portal, a mischevious twinkle in her eyes, grinning. 

“Silicon’s. Tonight at moonrise. You’re paying!” 

Sharpflint whipped around and opened his mouth to make a retort at her and assert that he was not--

And then the bridge came to a close with a sharp whooshing noise.   

“For frag’s sake, Paxie,” he raised his wrist and pulled up his balance. 

You’re lucky I got my paycheck last week.

But while he stared at the sky, the inklings of a smile played at his lips. 

Sharpflint, you big, dumb, dork.
