Hot Take/j for today's episode (128, Heavy Goods): Breekon just ran away when Jon tried to Know him too hard, and the noises we hear is the door slamming after him. Because it being one of the Archivist's powers to telekinetically throw a whole other avatar into a wall, it's... well its just a bit much innit
also "I can trust me, Jon. That’s it." Basira's rlly going through her s2 Jon period @a-mag-a-day

Oh, poor sweet puppy.
You should really watch how you speak to others. You never know who's watching.
Never know who's getting closer.
I'm assuming this was addressed to Daisy?
Whatever she's done, I wasn't involved. And if I need to babysit her more, let me know.

Gertrude: Lured all of her assistants to their death entirely on purpose and enslaved a ghost against his will to serve a book
Basira: Yes girl! Get it 💪 queen shit
Jonathan: Makes someone tell him important information and gives them a bad recurring dream
Basira: Mmmm don’t you think that’s a little… invasive?

To me, Concrete Jungle is the most Extinctiony statement out of all of the ones before s5. Mostly because i think the Extinction's motifs run the strongest through this statement. It's not 'merely' the fear of an ending, diseases, or seeing patterns/visions of a possible future; throughout the statement's preamble, we're already includong environmental pollution and global warming, and it gets stronger with all the concrete, plastic and trash around the core thing. Martin speculates that this might also be the Stranger, but the Stranger's usual companions are more uncanny humans, rather than fully inhuman materials. More taxidermy, dolls and mannequins, rather than stone and metal. Those new secundary motifs make it feel like a new Fear, rather than the expression of an old one in a new way
Also, im a day late on this, but Basira rlly has cop-brain when it comes to dealing with avatars. Her only two responses are: condone the violence that's to her benefit, or threaten with more violence herself if she needs it to stop. I've been p clear that I do think Jon has partial responsibility in trying to stop taking statements, and that the others were justified in confronting him about it.
But regardless of whether Jon's experience is more like starvation or withdrawal, acting like it should be 'super easy to quit actually' does no one any good. Not Jon, who'll no doubt feel even worse - which is generally the opposite of helpful, when you're trying to break a habit that explicitly makes you feel better - nor Basira, who's still blinding herself to the reality of what Daisy did, and what she herself is complicit in.

Hello Basra and Daisy, how have you been doing?
I can only speak for myself here, but I'm doing fairly well for having just returned from the Buried. Daisy is distant, but she seems like she's not going to die anytime soon, so that's a win in my book.
