"In The Double, the protagonist, Golyadkin senior, is persecuted by his double, Golyadkin junior, who resembles him closely in almost every detail. The latter abuses the former with mounting scorn and brutality as the tale proceeds toward its frightening denouement. Characteristic Dostoyevskyan themes of helplessness, victimization, and scandal are beautifully handled here with an artistry that qualifies the story as a small masterpiece.
Students of literature, admirers of Dostoyevsky, and general readers will all be delighted to have this classic work available in this inexpensive but high-quality edition"

I was in a school with several famous classic authors who were all teenagers for some reason and I found out that Fyodor Dostoyevsky was the ring leader of a plot to kill another author (whose name I forgot) just when I was stepping out of the school bathroom. That annoyed him so much that he made me the new target instead of the first guy.

Quote
Tyranny is a habit which may be developed until at last it becomes a disease. I declare that the noblest nature can become so hardened and bestial that nothing distinguishes it from that of a wild animal. Blood and power intoxicate; they help to develop callousness and debauchery. The mind then becomes capable of the most abnormal cruelty, which it regards as pleasure; the man and the citizen are swallowed up in the tyrant; and the return to human dignity, repentance, moral resurrection, becomes almost impossible.
Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The House of the Dead

Bungou Stray Dogs just feel extremely connected with The Neverending Story. In Neverending Story, stories create stories and actually nothing have a end. Connected with it nothing have a start if they don't have story. Stories cause stories so its imposible to finish a story if you live in Fantasia. (The universe in Neverending Story)
There was endless universes endless possibilities endless characters endless situations. The book. Fantasia have a book which everything happen in Fantasia writing in it. Fantasia's book can't search a living creature just can found it . Book written by Old Soul Of the Wandering Mountain. (I can't directly translate it to English because i read it turkish)
Michael Ende (writer of Neverending Story and fascinating fantastic books , his books live forever in my brain) would be a great bsd oc. Michael Ende as a bsd character, ımagine...
People who live in world we know- and world we think we live- can come in to Fantasia. For example Shekespeare describe as a Fantasia traveler. I wonder Howard Philips Lovecraft ever go there ?
So in Fantasia humans who have a brain to understand fantasia's world can travel Fantasia every bsd author and port have a brain to this. Bungou stray Dogs is a theory born in Fantasia's endless meadows, forests, houses. Neverlands
Nikolai Gogol's stories, evenings from a farm near Dikanka, from Ukrania mountains, Fantasia have a visual look to people who look at it.... Ohh

If you’d told me that I’d be shipping a bunch of classic lit authors with each other say like, a year ago, I would’ve laughed in your face
#thank you Bungou stray dogs#normally I don’t ship real people but like this is just characters named after authors and also they’re dead so#it’s so funny hearing things out of context though like imagine being completely clueless abt this piece of media#and someone says ‘so then Nathaniel Hawthorne partnered up with fyodor Dostoyevsky and Nikolai Gogol because he was in love with#Margaret Mitchell and also at some point John Steinbeck was partners with hp lovecraft and they were in love n shit and then#f scott Fitzgerald shows up and he gathers up all the Americans because he wants to take over the Japan lit scene for his wife for whatever#reason I forgot his motives because i was too focused on everything else but the plot but anyways so then there’s this little partnership#going on between Edgar Allan Poe and his Japanese counterpart Ranpo edogawa and they’re like rivals but also quite fond of each other and#they’re very wholesome and it’s all fun and games#and then there’s the main ship of the series that’s Osamu Dazai and Chuuya Nakahara and they’re like so in love and they hate each other but#they’re also in love and then the same dynamic is shared by their mentees akutagawa and atsushi nakajima and then at some point we get clues#that the same dynamic was shared between their bosses as well and mori ougai and fukuzawa yukichi are also in love because we said so I mean#basically any ship here can and will be canon no matter what and anyways so then they all meet and then fuck shit up <3#is fanfiction abt your favourite authors put in situations <3#.txt#bsd#bungou stray dogs
