The fact that Texas is an at-will state is actually so evil and makes me feel completely powerless. At my childcare jobs, there was at least the assurance that nobody wanted to do the work that I was doing, (including many of the other people doing it) but now that I'm at a job that is actually almost enjoyable, it's, like, really not doing good things for the "everyone has to like me or I will Literally Die" complex I've been cultivating since childhood. Because I am very aware that I can lose my job just from a single person maybe not liking me.
Also, can I just say??? Attendance policies are such fucking bullshit. At every one of my workplaces, I have seen people do such shit work, or cause so much drama, only to get in way less trouble than I do for being a little late, or absent a couple times. And my bosses will even admit that they know I'm doing good work and trying hard, but because there are these easy little boxes for them to check off, oh, look at that! Looks like we have to write you up, so sad. And this kind of policy is so ubiquitous that no one even considers how unbalanced that is.
Not to mention that attendance would be way less serious if anyone, anywhere, ever actually staffed decently. (In my opinion, this would mean scheduling twice as many people as you "need".)
The way having a job works is insane and unnatural.

It's funny to read that "In June, the New York State Legislature passed a bill that would make it illegal to punish workers for protected absences." The very first time I ever heard of a system like this was WORKING FOR THE NEW YORK STATE GOVERNMENT.
Yup. I was penalized for missing work due to my disabilities, for family emergencies, for an excruciating dental situation. They made you complete all your absence paperwork before you could go. You had to wait for approval or disapproval before you could go. Multiple times, I received a disapproval for leaving under emergency circumstances - including the time I ended up needing a root canal!
Then COVID hit and guess what happened if you missed work to protect your coworkers? Yup, you're penalized. What if you miss work because you're symptomatic, but when you get tested, it's negative? Still penalized.
And I ran afoul of this at both OCFS and OSC. It remains to be seen whether SUNY will be similarly draconian, but I did already get myself in a weird tangle after a rebound of COVID. I *think* it's straightened out and nothing bad will come of it other than the stress in the moment - which is plenty bad enough. But I won't know for sure until I see my performance reviews and so forth. I won't feel free and clear until I'm past my two-year traineeship. That's a long time to hold something like this in the back of your mind.

I'll make sure you're always trapped behind someone going 10 under the speed limit and boxed in so you can't pass them whenever you're late for something important.

Do you have the flu?
Also cuddle for the 3 sentence prompt please
“This is ridiculous,” Abel snapped, squirming in the deity’s hold. “Whoever said mortals like to cuddle is wrong, now let me go.”
Fierce glanced at Rusl, who was shaking from head to toe in an effort to not burst out laughing. Although the deity still had much to learn on mortal behavior, he knew a joke when he saw one, and he smiled in return, pulling the little knight closer as Abel yelped in protest.

"They have come from everywhere, these Jews of Zionism—from Germany to Ethiopia to Poland to Morocco to France to Iraq to the former Soviet Union and a thousand other places. And most have come because their 'equal rights' in those places proved nonexistent in the face of a millennia of hatred. In Israel, often for the first time in history, they are citizens with rights. And they enjoy those rights because, and only because, of Zionism."

last night i had a super vivid dream about good omens season 2 and though i've forgotten most of it, what i do remember was that crowley and aziraphale had at some point become union agitators and were holding monthly meetings to discuss issues like "improved health and safety" and "dealing with workplace harassment". gabriel hated this but he couldn't do anything about it because god was vocally in favour of trade unions. michael pretended to hate it but secretly showed up at several of the meetings.

I don't think that kids should be exclusively homeschooled, but I also don't think that kids should be going to a building with hundreds of people 5 days a week during a pandemic. It's one of the main reasons why it keeps spreading so rapidly and won't go away. They don't take any preventative measures at schools anymore (at least not around here). You got kids? You're getting sick. Your coworker has kids? You're getting sick.
Schools are back to counting attendance. You can't even keep your kid home long enough to recover from covid before sending them back. They literally send a "truancy" (police) officer to your house if you keep them home too often.
I feel like we could be doing something better. I'm not entirely sure what the solution is. But this isn't it.

Sprained my ankle nearly 2 days ago now and I have been coping in the following ways:
Imagining Clockboy picking me up and carrying me around to get to places so I don't have to put weight on my ankle. Helping me in and out of bed so I don't bend my ankle or legs weird and cause more pain.
Since I'm mostly in bed, the idea of him laying down w me to keep me company has been nice, as well as cuddling to keep warm because my room is FREEZING right now (which I like but. Brrr!)
Had to grab something off my bed earlier before getting on the computer for a bit and my Clockboy plush was laying face down on a pillow and I gave him a little kiss... And my brain immediately jumped to the idea of Clockboy taking a nap on my bed and me giving him a little kiss as he sleeps and he kinda moves a little bit in his sleep to get comfier, as if he Knows he got kissed by his husband 🥺💕💕💕
