I don't know much about Rainbow Six, so give me your best guess: How's this SECOND group of Rainbow Six people getting isekai'd into Terra?

There's two ways they can go about it!

The first would be Hypergryph making their own original story elements once again. Although a sci-fi, Rainbow Six was still somewhat grounded as military fiction and R6: Siege did not feature mad scientists creating zombies with interdimensional cancer rocks. All that was stuff that Hypergryph added in themselves. Funnily enough, after Originium Dust, Rainbow would then go on to actually do more fantasy shit themselves, introducing alien monsters in a post apocalyptic future in Rainbow Six: Extraction.

HG could easily make up a new story about Ela informing the rest of Rainbow about Ash, Tachanka, Blitz, and Frost's disappearance in the lab, and their investigation into portal technology leads to another group getting stuck inside Terra.

The second way would be actually using the ongoing storyline as a jumping off point.

In Rainbow Six: Siege, Rainbow has currently broken up into two rival factions: Rainbow, and Nighthaven. Rainbow is led by Ash, while Nighthaven is led by Kali.

The story goes that Nighthaven was originally a PMC founded by Kali, the scion of a wealthy family and a martial artist that was nevertheless barred from joining combat units in the Indian military due to being a woman. Her partnership with a genius inventor called Osa led to Nighthaven becoming an incredibly influential and powerful organization with tech that rivaled Rainbow's, which was ridiculous given that Rainbow as a unit was backed by like, every country in the world.

To prevent a potential conflict should Nighthaven end up being hired by a supervillain or whatever, the head of Rainbow, Six, instead decided to hire Nighthaven and invited them to officially become Rainbow operators. Kali agreed, so they merged into one unit.

The Rainbow and Nighthaven operators got along, but Ash and Kali didn't. Kali eventually planned to leave Rainbow and go private again after a couple of years, but not before courting the other Rainbow operators with the idea of joining her instead.

A certain event saw Ash and Kali beat each other up, and then Kali decided it was time to go and removed Nighthaven from Rainbow, while successfully poaching a bunch of their operators. Six was assassinated by an unrelated villain afterwards, leaving Rainbow in really dire straits as an organization. With a lot of their manpower gone and the unrelated villain turning out to be a former rogue Rainbow member, they're pretty screwed right now. Perhaps even more so now that four of their remaining members got teleported into Catgirl world.

Now, while Fuze was not one of the Rainbow operators who defected to Nighthaven, he WAS one of those that Kali tried to recruit. One of the NPCs from Originium Dust, Ela, DID end up joining Kali too. I can see an approach where Rainbow sucks up its pride asks Nighthaven for help locating their missing members, and Kali agrees because Osa (who is a big 60s sci-fi nut) hears the words "teleportation" and demands to study the remains of Dr. Levi's lab. Hell, she'd probably want to study Originium too.

Osa could recreate and stabilize the portal creation, then they send in a team to explore the alien catgirl world.

Maybe Kali goes too. She's one of the easiest fits into the Arknights tower defense format (she's a sniper in Siege) and she'll get to beat up Ash in another world too while also lording it over Rainbow for rescuing them.

I fear I must now put some considerable effort toward explaining myself, for in indulging the abject impulse to write to you once more as I had forsworn to do, I have made a liar of myself.

Yet there is no sound pretense I can offer for this second Letter; no dissembling that will spare me your disdain. No reason drives me, save that I am in the throes of a fathomless and interminable misery of which you, my friend, are the cause.

Hi! I've only read Wayhaven so I was wondering what your favourite IF series/book is?

omg anon my favorite topic! i'm super into IF and have lots of recs so feel free to ask again if you give these a try and want something else :) I can give more if you're looking for something specific, but here are some of my all-time favorites:

Mind Blind (HG WIP, almost complete): my first rec to new players who enjoyed Wayhaven! Also low fantasy, but this one has an urban setting. Underdog MC, great writing, amazing ROs and characters. Similar themes re. family relationships.

A Tale of Crowns (Twine WIP): my favorite of all time (though Wayhaven's a close second)! High fantasy with incredible writing and world-building, wonderful characters, and a chef's kiss MC. I'm a hardcore romance girl and it takes kind of a lot to get me super invested in the plot all by itself, but ATOC makes me tear up about the MC's journey alone.

Throne of Ashes (Twine WIP, 1 route complete): I'm biased because the complete route is my favorite RO, but I love this one so so much. High fantasy, super creative and immersive stats system, and a moving plot about recovering from trauma.

The Soul Stone War (CoG series, 1&2 complete): great series for romance fans! Amazing enemies-to-lovers route. Love the found family vibes and the characters. High fantasy.

The Exile (CoG WIP, being ported to Twine): True MC excellence. I love the ROs sm too, but the MC's backstory is one of the best I've read and really engages you emotionally in their journey. High fantasy.

Shepherds of Haven (CoG WIP, being ported to Twine): Super expansive, with lots of ROs and characters that don't take away from anything else! High fantasy with great worldbuilding. I love the way this is structured and the found family.

Periodic Table Championship: Round 2, Day 3, Potassium vs. Mercury

The final match of day 3 of round 2 of the championship has element 19, potassium, facing off against element 80, mercury. Last round, potassium and mercury beat curium and rubidium, respectively, by similar margins, with potassium securing 74.4% of the votes and mercury securing 77%. A reminder of our challengers:

Potassium is a soft, reactive, alkali metal that crystalizes in the body-centered crystal structure at room temperature. It is well known as a vital nutrient for human biology, but industrial applications include fertilizer and gunpowder, among countless other uses for its various compounds. Its English name comes from potash, while its symbol comes from the Arabic root word alkali, meaning plant ashes.

Mercury is the only liquid metallic element at room temperature, with a melting point of -39°C (-38°F). Solid mercury is malleable and ductile, with a rhombehedral crystal structure. Perhaps most well known for its toxicity and its historic use in thermometers, applications of the element include telescopes, electrodes, and lighting. Originally known as quicksilver, mercury is one of the seven known medieval alchemic metals, each associated with one of the seven planets, and the only one to keep that association, as the name eventually came to be preferred over quicksilver. The chemical symbol comes from the Ancient Greek for the element’s name.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE, BUT I'M BACK!

I know I've been quiet for a while, but that's because I wanted to have a week away from my keyboard. I didn't do any writing or planning, but I did manage to get some much-needed rest.

This isn't an official update, but I did want to bring you up to speed on some things.

CLOSED BETA FOR THS

The closed beta is ending this Sunday, and after that'll I'll be able to edit the game one last time and send it to Hosted Games. The art for the game is also just about ready!

PATREON

Some of you asked me about the alpha build for THS. You can still get access to it on Patreon, but I will be deleting it as soon as HG accept my submission. This will likely happen in a couple of months.

NEW PROJECT

I'm working on a new game. It's called The Elder Crystals, but that's all I can tell you at this point. The story and (most of) the characters are brand new, but I created the world and some of the lore from the ashes of the Chronicles of Sekherion.

I should be able to put out a demo in early December!

Opinions on each of the starter Pokemon, Kari.

I'll preface this post by saying that 1) I'm kinda biased towards water types and 2) I haven't actually played a Pokemon game since HG/SS, so my opinions have more to do with how I like them just from a design/lore perspective and their appearances in other media (like the anime) than their competitive viability

With that out of the way... let's go~

Bulbasaur - Still one of the most underrated starters I think. I loved Ash's Bulbasaur in the anime, he was one sassy bitch lol

Charmander - A touch overexposed, but for good reason. Who doesn't love a fire breathing dragon buddy

Squirtle - I love the concept, but honestly most of my fondness for it comes from Ash's Squirtle. The one with the glasses

Pikachu - I mean, it's the mascot of the series. I don't think I can hate it even if I tried. It's cute and we all know it

Eevee - I'm kinda meh on the whole line tbh... and the Eevee you get as a starter can't evolve anyways...

Chikorita - Honestly probably the most forgettable of the starters. I don't really think much of it

Cyndaquil - It's a cute little shrew thing that evolves into a honey badger. Okay I guess? Hisuian Typholosion was needed badly

Totodile - Look, Ash's Totodile being a happy dancy lil guy was all they needed to make me love it

Treecko - A bunch of Poketubers I watch regularly are fond of it, and although I see the appeal, I'm just okay on it

Torchic - I love the whole line tbh, but I still haven't gotten over my cousin's kid saying Combusken looks like a dick.

Mudkip - My answer to the "Do you like Mudkips?" meme is "No, I absolutely adore Mudkips and will die for them"

Turtwig - Probably the most underrated of the Sinnoh starters and I kinda see why people struggle to use it

Chimchar - I see the appeal, even if I never used it as a starter myself. I also got attached to it because of Ash's Chimchar

Piplup - Piplup was my first starter so I adore it a lot... It's just so full of personality whenever I see it. Project Pochama was lit

Snivy - All I know about it is the infamous episode where Ash's Pikachu lost to one at the start of B/W

Pignite - Kinda went overboard with the Fire/Fighting combi at this point... also it's not really appealing in anyway lol

Oshawott - I think it has the most likeable personality of the starters? The scalchop thing is really cute

Chespin - Chespin's evolutions are... something. Poor guy got the short end of the design stick

Fennekin - I think it has the best concept of the three Kalos starters. Yes, even more than ninja frogman

Froakie - I think they were trying to turn it into Charizard 2.0 and... I guess it worked for a while? I like it well enough I guess

Rowlet - The cutest borb (birb+orb) turning into a badass ghost archer? Yes please! Also, Ash's Rowlet was hilarious in S&M

Litten - I guess I was just thankful they didn't make it Fighting type again lol

Popplio - It's a cute little thing, I don't understand why people didn't like it when it was first revealed

Grookey - I may have compared it to one Banjou Ryuuga when it was revealed lol. Ryuuga's my fave 2nd Rider though...

Scorbunny - It's a cute lil bunny, how could I hate it? It also seemed to have the most personality out of the Galar starters

Sobble - *gathers him into my arms* I will protect this one with my life even if it evolves into lizard James Bond

Sprigatito - Do I want a cat that can knead me and make me kinda high? ...Maybe

Fuecoco - It's a happy lil fire croc! It looks so wholesome! Its head is empty but I don't care!

Quaxly - I would like to shake the hand of the god who thought gaylord samba peacock-duck thing would make for a great starter

i - me only, better late than never - am fucking wildly delighted by the fact HG burned the saccharine trope "my love for you brought you back" alive and painted the characters' pathway with its ashes. not only because it wasn't about romantic affection - the source of fairy tale magic turned out to be a memory of pain and loss and what is no more. a dead girl's song.

If the MH collab gacha banner does feature Alters for Yato and Noir Corne...

I have to assume these alters don't have MH armor or weapons, so that Hypergryph can bring them back or put them in the Headhunting pool without pissing off their player-base.

Hypergryph can give them Monster Hunter skins, like they gave Tachanka and Ash limited skins. Thus capitalizing on the limited collab without denying Arknights alters to Arknights players.

See that's the sensible way of going about things, and that's asking the studio that gave Utage +3% ATK and DEF on her module and only at half health to act sensibly.

Yato and Noir Corne are going to show up in full MH gear and HG are going to pat themselves on the back thinking they're geniuses for making Alts of 2 stars and therefore no one would possibly complain about FOMO once this event is over and then they're going to be dumbstruck when people get mad there are more inaccessible units

HGS is not LU but I thought it would be funny to cross them over anyway.

In which the boys are out of options and they try summoning a Great Fairy. Nightmare answers.

Characters: The Chain (LU), Nightmare (HGS)

Against all odds, it worked.

The water in the spring rippled, the subtle tremor of a distant earthquake, tossing back the soft music of Hyrule’s chanting. Scattered around the grotto lay the remnants of the Chain, bleeding and groaning and generally battered, but Time clung to a knight’s poise and managed to kneel, tossing a handful of rupees into the water as Hyrule clutched at the hem of his tunic nervously.

The water bubbled, and churned, and twisted in on itself until it reflected night in the middle of the day, still as a mirror.

Hyrule took a breath, but didn’t step closer. “Great Mother, I hope we haven’t disturbed you.”

The silence stretched, and stretched further as the forest birds shifted uneasily to quiet, insects falling still. From the roots of a bush, Legend swore softly. “‘Rulie, maybe-“

“No,” he bit out, a little shaken. “It’s a test. The water’s open, it’s- she’s listening.”

“Or someone’s listening,” Warriors muttered, stuffing a rag against a gash in Twilight’s leg despite the hiss of pain. “It’s a bust, shut it-“

The water rippled, and teeth clicked shut.

Below the starry black, something glittered, movements more organic than celestial. A hand broke the water, smooth as a spirit’s passage, and not a soul made a sound as a slender hand branded with the mark of Farore curled around the edge of a rock.

The water didn’t splash when a head broke the surface, black curls melting to vivid turquoise, skin flushing a mortal shade of tan like some cosmic painter had wiped away a film. They didn’t lift their nose above the water, but strange magenta eyes stayed locked on Hyrule, and the world was still.

The traveler swallowed. “We’re very injured, Great Mother, and we request your assistance. We can pay?”

The eyes blinked. Legend swore again, colorfully, and the faery glanced past the flash of panic on Hyrule’s face to look at the veteran with great interest.

Hyrule scrambled. “He- I- Terribly sorry, ma’am, he’s only-“

Dark, sparkling glitter fell like strange ash over Legend’s leg, soft and exploratory. It tickled, faintly, like the touch of butterfly legs- and the gouge in his calf began stitching itself together like time come undone. There was a low, strange hum from the spring- pleased, maybe?- and magenta eyes turned back to the Hero of Hyrule.

He shakily offered more rupees, and dark glitter swirled to life in response.

It was a quick affair after that, groans of relief and even gratitude as the faery did their work, until at last the only one left with blood on his skin was Hyrule. The inky stars in the pool had gone murky, the air thick with the stench of copper, but even so the spring stayed as still as a mirror and did not ripple as the fae drew closer, waiting.

They held their hand up. For lack of any other idea, Hyrule took it.

It became very apparent very quickly, as the fae dragged himself from the water, that their benefactor was male and as thinly dressed as any Great Fairy, if more Hylian-sized than a few of them were used to. Wings like long, trailing flower petals hung from tanned shoulderblades, dusky violet, and whatever tunic he’d been wearing fell around his waist to catch around a belt in loose folds of sky blue. Watery blood streaked every inch of him- Legend’s leg wound, Twilight’s kidney puncture, arrow holes in his shoulders and bruises blooming like roses across his sternum, his throat, his gut.

Bare feet stepped just to the edge of the shallows, coppery night lapping at his ankles, and the faery squeezed Hyrule’s hand gently.

He swallowed. “Ah. Hello.”

A chime, low and strange and almost discordant, but the strange man put on something similar to a smile.

“You. Ah.” Hyrule swallowed again. “Payment?”

The faery’s head tilted. He glanced at the heroes scattered on the ground. At Time, still somehow kneeling at the edge of the spring. At Hyrule, tense and grateful and only a little wary.

He hummed, and looked directly at the hero’s lips.

Hyrule flushed all the way to the tips of his ears. Fairy fountains were transactional, they all knew that, and they’d all had passing comments (or more) from the women of the wells. Still. “Are you sure?”

The answering smile was close-lipped and cherubic, despite the stench of stolen pain wrapped around him like an expensive shawl. Copper stars glittered in the dark around his ankles, fathomless and welcoming, and for a moment it almost felt like the faery- the well itself- might pull the traveler in.

He glanced at Hyrule’s right hand, then his lips, then his eyes.

With a shuddering breath, Hyrule made the easier choice. “Alright. Mouth it is.”

Someone made a noise of protest, but it was hard to say who as the faery’s free hand slithered into Hyrule’s curls, fisting and dragging him in. The traveler made a startled noise, high like fairy bells and snuffed out like a candle on the edges of a groan.

Wind squeaked and turned abruptly around while Wars grimaced faintly, checking over his healed wounds with particular intent. Time, for his part, just sighed.

Legend couldn’t look away, even if all he could see was fey fingers curling possessively in Hyrule’s hair and the shudder of his shoulders, the half-step taken forward. Fairy glitter dripped down the line of his spine and the curve of his side like fragments of frozen ink caught in a strange wind, searching out bruises and punctures with singleminded alien persistence.

He started breathing again about the same time Hyrule did, the shaky settling of his one free hand on the faery’s hip interrupted by sudden freedom. Hyrule blinked, gaping and blind like he’d plunged from darkness into sudden light, and the faery squeezed his hand affectionately.

It ran clever fingers over the new ragged wound in its side with something like satisfaction, watery blood streaming from the telltale kiss of bokoblin fangs. Searing pink eyes watched Hyrule get his heart rate back under control, lips tightly shut again in courtly amusement.

“I.” Hyrule tugged at his gauntlet laces, flustered. “Your generosity is appreciated, Great Mother.”

It arched one turquoise brow, rolling their freely given rupees over its knuckles briefly before snapping the hand shut, spiriting them away. Even so, it seemed pleased. With a little wave at the chain, the Great Mother took a step back into the fairy well, plunging soundlessly into the bloodstained dark.

The infinite copper stars lingered, like the trailing end of a song too familiar to let go, until several long minutes after Time helped Hyrule away from the edge of the pool with badly hidden concern.

“Hyrule,” Legend said flatly as the traveler batted Time’s hand on his elbow away, ears still pink, “your fairies suck.”

“It was payment! It wasn’t-“

Hyrule’s protests were drowned out by noises of disagreement, and Wind’s declaration that they were fucking creepy, actually.

The grotto rippled clean and pure in a way no water in this poison land ever managed, with the faintest hint of blood on the breeze.
