something so painful about someone dying as soon as they find the will to live

I really love Penthesilea and she gets so little appreciation. I’ve talked about her before but I can’t really do her story Justice in such a small explanation lmao. Just go read her theoi page honestly. But one thing I find interesting beyond her independent character (which is a lot for a woman in Greek myth. I can’t find a better word than tragic tormented himbo??? Which is kinda off but yk) is what she really solidifies within the character of Achilles. She’s the closest he gets to second chance at happiness and he only realises it once he sees her dead and without her helmet. His choice to be remembered has continued to cause him tragedy.

so with their outfits. Achilles I based on a chariot fresco from Pylos. I’ve drawn him in a more typically Hellenistic fashion before (albeit in doodles) but I actually like to mess around with the fashion of the periods. Whatever they wear it doesn’t change the context of them being Greek. Also, his hair is cut shorter than I normally would choose to depict. Penthesilea actually comes from a more creative perspective. I took primary influence from scythian art, depictions and textiles, but I tried to adapt that in how her clothing would change going from the cold of her native central Eurasian steppes to the heat of the Mediterranean region. It also gives more chance to display tattoos! I tried to make them allude to her parentage from Ares.

Also Achilles hair was difficult because it would either be too red or too blonde. I settled on this. I also had issues with the photo quality before realising I actually liked how it looked for the piece. And besides I was able to sharpen it to better reflect the actual painting in real life. It’s definitely in my portfolio!

This took longer than my Ariadne watercolour painting, but I was on spring break and had more time to work so I think I did well.

I have a whole story arc planned for how Kay settled and decided to become a detective, and Simon needs a new one after… y’know.

Their gimmicks are complimentary, there’s a post talking about it here: x, and I think they’d have a fun dynamic.

Also I like them both a lot and want them to hang out. They deserve it. And I may have gotten attached to their ship. Go read A Study into the Relations between Raptors and Corvids. It rules

Powered by Pokemon, by 3dmatt.

Powered by Pokemon is a improvisational TTRPG based on the Powered by the Apocalypse system, drawing heavy inspiration form the Monster of the Week game.

In this game, most of you are stepping into this world as a human, a trainer! People who face the trials and tribulations of life with a pokemon partner by their side. One of you will be The Keeper. The Keeper will be in charge of starting you down the path of your story, bringing the world to life and portraying the People and Pokemon you meet.

While the dice system is PbtA, this Pokemon game uses type matching just like the video games, affecting how your Pokemon will deal damage and take damage. Your Pokemon will also level up similar to Pokemon levelling-up in the video games, from level 1 to 100!

Pocket Monsters Manual, by Tragos Games.

Pocket Monsters Manual is a roleplaying game about capturing, training, battling and evolving monsters.

It has a few marked difference from a typical Pokemon game. Monsters have types just like Pokemon, but a player trainer must select two types and from the beginning onwards, may only only use monsters that belong to at least one of the two types. Additionally, most monsters have a Maximum Level - not all evolve to the same extent. Trainers will also tier up, which feels like an analogue to badge collecting.

There are also familiar hallmarks in Pokemon in this game - monsters faint rather than die, health can be restored in a healing centre or with potions, and type matching can increase or decrease your effectiveness in a fight. All in all this game is extremely rules-light, and leaves most of the world creation to the group or the GM.

Animon Story, by Zak Barouh.

Jump into the world of Animon with this original tabletop roleplaying game inspired by beloved anime and video games. You'll take on the role of Kids who team up with their very own monster buddies called Animon. Together you'll go on adventures, grow as friends, and maybe even save the world!

This book contains everything you need to create unique characters and tell your own stories, with rules designed to encourage and support your creativity. It has beautiful art and unique creatures, with a unique elements system that doesn’t follow either Pokemon or Digimon conventions, but does allow you to create your own unique creatures!

If you want to try before you buy, you can get the Animon Playkit, and if you want more Animon content, you can pick up the Ani-thology (a supplement with adventures for your crew) and the Shutterbug, an additional Kid type for this game.

Pilgrimon, by The Bardic Inquiry.

PILGRIMON is a roleplaying game designed for short campaigns about humans and their monster companions going on an adventure to realize their dreams.

One player will take on the role of the professor and will use the supplied tools to create a changing map for the trainers to explore as well as engaging scenes that will drive the trainers towards their dreams.

Pilgrimon is a slimmed-down Pokemon game, with different creatures that have evolution mechanics and a type-matching table. It includes different kinds of scenes for combat, exploration, journeys, and caring for your creatures. In this game, it’s the journey that’s in focus more than anything else.

Pokemon Polyhedral: Micro Edition, by march crow.

Pokémon Polyhedral: Micro Edition is an A6 size solo RPG that is narrative lite and dice heavy.

Roll dice to encounter Pokémon. Roll dice to capture them. Roll dice to level up and evolve them. Roll dice to use your team to defeat Team Rocket, Gym Leaders, and the Elite Four.

This game uses only the original 150 Pokemon, although you could likely make your own roll tables that have future generations included as well. The battling rules are extremely slimmed down, and uses everything from a d4 to a d20. There are instructions and quick stats for battling wild Pokemon, trainers, Team Rocket, Gym Leaders and the Elite Four! This game is extremely bare-bones, but is likely the closest to replicating the original Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow games.

Pokemon Dungeon Crawler, by Batts.

This is an unofficial Pokémon dungeon crawler. You play as a Pokémon in a world after humans. You get a dungeon delving class (cleric, fighter, magic-user), you get a backpack, a weapon, and you head out on an adventure.

This game plays similar to OSR-style games with a d20, roll-under system. Most rolls are player-facing; Players roll to attack and to dodge while the Game Master uses dice to keep track of the various complexities of dungeon crawling.

This is the only game in this list in which you are a Pokemon, rather than a human trainer. If you’re looking to replicate a bit of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, this is likely the game you’re looking for. The game restricts your choices to 20 1st-gen Pokemon, because each of those 20 Pokémon get a custom sheet. If you want to play as a different Pokemon, you might have to flex your writing muscles!

I am queer, my queerness like my christianity is apart of what makes me me, the church i grew up in was very accepting, I knew Christian love long before I knew Christian hate. If you dislike queer people, leave. If you think God hates queer people leave, if you think jesus hates queer people LEAVE, if you think God "loves the sinner but not the sin" in reference to queer love, joy and sex L E A V E. God loves everyone, Jesus loves everyone, and Jesus surrounded himself with societal outcasts and marginalized peoples, to say that Jesus would hate gay people is not only a lie, it is directly against scripture.

Paisley: “Hmmm...” Calliope: “You’re normally so quiet, and now you’re being cheeky? I’ll go first then. I guess I love how calm Paisley is. She always looks at things from every perspective before she makes a judgement on something or someone.” Paisley: “Aww! Thanks, Calli! I have always admired your determination and fearlessness to pursue anything you want in life!”

3. What annoys you about your sibling?

Calliope: “Nothing. Let’s be real, Paisley is perfect.” Paisley: “Not true! I guess...uhh...” Calliope: “I’m brash and distant?” Paisley: “Well you said it, not me...”

4. Describe your sibling(s) with three adjectives.

Paisley: “Determined, passionate and loyal.” Calliope: “Loyal? Really? After everything I’ve...uhh...that’s something for another time. Pais is creative, caring and thoughtful.”

5. What is your sibling’s/siblings’ biggest talent(s)?

Calliope: “Empathy.” Paisley: “Wait...not my writing? Painting is obviously yours...” Calliope: “Oh that too, but your empathy makes your writing so much better. You can see the point of view of every sim and you can create worlds with one sentence. It’s something I’ve always admired about you.”

6. What is your sibling(s) really bad at?

Paisley: “Being quiet...” Callope: “That’s fair. I’d say Pais is bad at being loud and standing up for what she believes in.”

7. Do you have nicknames for each other?

Calliope: “Only ones our parents have called us. I’m Calli, she’s Pais.” Paisley: “I was going to say “stubborn” was your nickname, but -” Calliope: “HEY!”

8. What’s one thing you can do that your sibling(s) can’t?

Calliope: “...go on, say it.” Paisley: “...I can consider everyone’s perspective and all the consequences, whilst Calli just reacts without thinking. But...you’re working on it!” Calliope: “I am. I would say that I can take a chance more than Paisley would.”

9. Did you get along when you were younger?

Calliope: “I think so...” Paisley: “Yup! We had a happy childhood. I was the last to arrive, so I thought that I’d be the one that’s singled out. I was to some extent, but that was just due to our ages. I was never truly unhappy though...”

10. What is your funniest childhood memory of your sibling?

Paisley: “Calli was always so hardworking as a child, with school, scouts, all of her skills. I once found her asleep in her cereal. She was late for school because she had to shower all of the milk off!” Calliope: “...I was expecting worse. Hmmm...something about Paisley...she used to smuggle Dad’s notes from his interviews so she could write stories about his work. He was always so confused about how you knew what he was reporting on!” Paisley: “Dad was convinced my alien powers were showing through. I don’t have the heart to tell him what I was really doing...”

11. Are you closer now or when you were younger?

Calliope: “I’d say we’re closer now.” Paisley: “I would say so at this present moment, yeah. But we did lose touch for a while after...” Calliope: “Mmm...I agree. I’m sorry for everything, Pais. I hope you know that.”

12. Did you compete with each other?

Calliope: “Never! We all had our own unique talents!” Paisley: “...” Calliope: “Wait...am I wrong?” Paisley: “We always had to compete against you, Calli. You were so skilled and you completed so many aspirations. You became a leader in the scouts and on the honour role at school. How could we keep up with that?” Calliope: “I...I never saw it like that...”

13. Which one of you is more likely to turn out like your mum or dad?

Calliope: “Well, we have different “mothers”, but I would say that I am most like my birth mother. I want to have the same relationship as our Dads though.” Paisley: “I agree with that - you’re fiery, just like your mum. I’m from an alien pregnancy, but I would say I’m more like our Dad, Art, anyway. I agree with Calli though - I’d love to have a relationship as strong as our Dads’ is!”

14. Which one is most likely to have a big family?

Calliope: -coughs- Paisley: “No spoilers, but I’m sure it’s Calli. I’d like to find someone special, but children aren’t high on my agenda.”

15. What is one thing about your sibling(s) that has changed as you’ve gotten older?

Calliope: “That’s a good one. Paisley has gained so much self confidence. She’s amazing and I’m so proud of her!” Paisley: “Aww...thanks, Calli. I would say that Calli is actually going back to who she was when she was younger. We had a rough spot, but she’s learning to open up again.”

16. Who’s better at maths?

Paisley and Calliope: “LUKA!” Paisley: “Luka is so smart. He always helped us with our homework.” Calliope: “I owe my school success partially to Luka. I don’t know how his mind works, but it’s really special to see!”

17. Who is more pessimistic and who is more optimistic?

Calliope: “No doubt, I’m pessimistic. I’m always fighting something. I’m...I’m trying to do better and learn that everything doesn’t have to be a battle.” Paisley: “As much as Calli would say I’m optimistic, I can be pessimistic too. It’s my own self doubts, but I can be optimistic when I’m confident.”

18. Is there anything you don’t like doing together?

Paisley: “Meeting the Grim Reaper...” Calliope: “Yeah...let’s not do that again!”

19. Which one of you do you think will get married first?

Paisley: “Totally Calli. You and Morgan are GOALS!” Calliope: “I think it’ll be you. But...that’s spoilers!”

20. Lastly, how often do you argue?

Calliope: “Never!” Paisley: “Only when she’s being stubborn!” Both siblings glare at each other, before bursting into a fit of giggles.

May-thology 2023 Prompts and Rules

There was supposed to be a week of voting, but it turns out that SurveyMonkey only shows you ten responses unless you update to a paid plan. Sorry to anyone who didn't get to vote yet. ^^;

Anyway, the results!

Week 1: Death

Week 2: Change

Week 3: Love

Week 4: Ending

How you interpret those are up to you; they were designed to be vague. As for other rules:

1.) Open to art, writing, cosplay, whatever.

2.) Open to any kind of mythology! I expect most of our entries will be Greco-Roman, but I hope for a diverse smattering of different cultures.

3.) Fandom entries are also allowed! That includes things like Percy Jackson or Marvel's Thor, or if you want to draw, like, Deku fighting Cú Chulainn.

4.) Basically, just have fun and keeps things mythological. If you want to retell your favorite story as accurately as possible, go ahead! If you want to draw dryads living in modern Central Park, sure!

5.) You should probably include "May-thology" and/or "May-thology 2023" and/or "May-thology2023" in the tags so that people can find your entries.

6.) Please reblog to help spread the word!
