hi aptericia! I hope you are having a good day!
I was wondering if you have any tips for sketching things so quickly and accurately the way you do :O obviously you've worked really hard for years and years and years to be able to develop this skill. but what is your process like for sketching something? what do you think about when trying to draw shapes that are like, the right proportion and like angle and like. stuff. I hope this is not too vague. 🙇
hey there, sorry for the late response! It was harder than I thought to articulate my strategies…
The first strategy for sketching (esp when you don’t have a 1:1 reference) is to simplify the form into shapes. So a person might be made of a circle & oval for the head, a rectangle for the chest, cylinders for the neck & arms, etc. I usually start by drawing said shapes, and then a few guidelines for lining things up correctly (e.g. one horizontal line in the center of the head for lining up the eyes).
(You don’t have to use different colors; I just wanted to make it clear here)
To learn to draw these shapes & guides, I like to do studies of 3D objects at different angles. You can also practice finding them in photograps and other people’s drawings
Another sketching strategy is to draw many extremely loose iterations, slowly refining the shapes. This approach is based more on intuition rather than logic, and it works by giving your brain many different paths for where the lines could go and then narrowing it down to the most “correct”-looking one
In the above example, I just threw down a bunch of lines on the first layer, then traced it more deliberately on the second one. The third layer was for the details, since putting them in the first two stages would have been both confusing and constraining.
Most artists use a combination of these strategies—for instance, you can see I also used guidelines for that last pic. And of course this approach can be used for drawing humans or anything else!

Pokémon Timeskip Series: Champion Dawn 🌸❄️
Known as Sinnoh’s Ice Queen, Dawn is best known for her intimidating yet caring nature. She’s fierce and calculating, never leaving any room for error especially when it comes to battling.
On her off days you can find her in the contest hall, a hobby she picked up from her mother, or in the Battle Frontier/Pokémon Lab to catch up with her best friends.
It is said she was recently engaged to a certain johto boy (Ethan. It’s Ethan.) however they will not publicly revealed their plans for the wedding as of yet

I was looking through some of my portfolio art from this past spring and I was not prepared for seeing just how incredibly far I’ve come in literally every aspect of my art… anatomy, color, composition, perspective, speed… I spent weeks and weeks with a tutor working on this one cityscape, and looking at it again I can say with absolute certainty that nowadays I could do a better job in a single day.
It’s kinda embarrassing to say, but I’m also certain that I’ve only improved so much because I started posting on tumblr. Due to the nature of the platform, I’m constantly surrounded with people who are actively seeking out the exact kind of content I love to create. For once, pursuing my hobbies doesn’t push me away from people but brings me closer to them. Plus it’s very easy for me to find inspiration and examples of the kind of art I want to create—and sometimes those artists even like my work back! I definitely feel the pressure to post art constantly, but since it’s something I love so much, I feel like it’s a reasonably healthy way of encouraging me to practice.
I’m so incredibly thankful for the support I’ve gotten from all the little people in my phone… I finally don’t feel like an outcast for having different hobbies from my friends, or stupid for not being into STEM like my family, or shallow for liking illustration & fanart instead of “fine” art… I have never in my life loved drawing as much as I do now, and my work really shows that. I’m so excited to keep practicing and improving, and I’m so happy to be able to share that journey with all of you 🥰

Yeah yeah jedi Maul au we've all seen him. But what about senator Maul au. Representing Dathomir, a neutral world like Mandalore that is still somewhat hostile to outsiders. Wearing fancy clothes that show a bit too much skin for the cold climate of Coruscant. Falling in hate at first sight with Padmé, the only other senator who brings a gun to the senate floor "just in case". The two of them having a weird rivalry because Maul doesn't trust the Jedi and is neutral in a lot of subjects that Padmé is a vocal defender of.
