I love how every single time, without fail, that I have a random thought about a cool show I watched on Netflix where I’m like “Oh yeah, I remember that show. It was pretty good. When’s the next season coming out?” and the answer every single time is: “It was cancelled.”

I just found out The Irregulars isn’t getting a season 2, despite season 1 having done pretty well. Probably old news for most, but it just popped into my head and I’m like let me look it up. CUE MY COMPLETE LACK OF SURPRISE to find out it was cancelled.

Netflix really is the fucking worst streaming platform, bar none. So far both Hulu and Amazon have only cancelled one show that I liked, whereas Netflix has cancelled like twenty at least by now. I have zero interest in getting involved in anything that isn’t a guaranteed hit or a one-off because they’re just gonna cancel it.

Man. Coming back to a podcast I haven’t listened to in a while is like coming home after a long exhausting day of adulting. Especially when that show has ended or is on hiatus.

Honestly I think one of the worst things about the fact that Archive 81 dropped off the map after season three is the fact that it would've been so funny if it had just kept going after the Netflix series got cancelled. People who watched the adaptation would be in the tag like "man it sucks that Archive 81 got cancelled" and the podcast listeners would be like BITCH GUESS WHAT please Dan Powell I just want them back I am begging you why did it have to end what happened to so many ideas for season four sir please

the thing about archive 81 is that it gives me brainworms even when it gets better. like s1-2 are goofy and kind of more eldritch horror/sci fi than traditional horror and i think some of the low budget vibes it gives off turns ppl off. but it’s still compelling and horny! thank you marc for giving me weirdly horny noncon body modifications (no really it is horny i’m not making this up im normal im normal im normal) and doing mpreg! king shit.

and season 3 is then like, a sharp incline in terms of character work and relationship weaving AND sound design. like i really feel like the writing and the sound (music, backgrounds, everything) really shines and it becomes like…this genuine piece of passionate art. like they were really hitting their stride narratively and emotionally!

so five years later i’m grinding my teeth about it. like tma was very good but it makes me so sad that a81 couldn’t get enough off the ground to see the same level of longterm success because it just FEELS like a passion project in a way that compels me and makes my brain get eaten by worms.

still holding out hope that archive 81 will continue because i desperately need to see nicholas waters again i think he could also use a bit of a redemption? i love that man to death and i think he is wonderful but he's also kind of an asshole and is sorta using people the same way his dad did and i feel like hes following the same path as michael... but yk!!!!!! i love him dearly

Thinking about those stories where a ghost doesn’t realize they’re dead, those stories where ghosts stay on earth because of their unfinished business, because they’re lost with nowhere to go.

Thinking about how the jump off the cliff could have easily killed Milligan, but by god that man will swim across to land. But he doesn’t know who he is, where he came from, who he was before it happened, he’s alone and lost in the world.

Until he meets Mr Benedict and Rhonda and Number Two who take him in, give him a mission and a cause to fight for. Then because of that cause he meets the children. He meets Kate, his daughter, for the first time in almost a decade. And he spends the rest of the series protecting her.

And that’s it. Protecting his daughter, who he’d been separated from when she was only a child, was his unfinished business. He’s found now, he’s done, he can leave.

But now his daughter has to loose her dad. Again.
