I feel like the people who keep saying "stop criticizing the episode, this is the shits and farts show" have a genuine lack of comprehension of the show as a whole. Even if you don't want to criticize it, what happened in this episode was emotional and a violation with deep seated consequences and the narrative KNOWS IT even if these viewers don't.

The way Guillermo asked why he couldn't just have one thing to himself, how irreparably depressed he is after what happens-- it's serious. In the narrative it is framed seriously. Yes, this show is full of farts and shit and dick jokes, but that's not ALL it is and the fans saying to lay off because of it are doing the show as a whole a disservice.

And frankly? Even if it was exclusively a sitcom with no longer story arcs or genuine emotional beats, which it isn't, we'd still have the right to think critically about it and call out misogynistic writing or anything else deserving criticism

I’m rewatching Turning Red, but in portuguese for language practice and i’m like 95% sure Tyler shouted “casa comigo!” at his favorite 4Town guy which for those of you who don’t speak portuguese, means “marry me!” so basically what i’m getting at here is we have a classic case of “y yo a ti” and portuguese Tyler is gay

Thinking about how Belos not only decided to kill Hunter before he even betrayed him, but specifically manipulated and led him through all the memories that showed how horrible Belos is, how little he cares about Hunter, and would make him likely to betray him even though Hunter expressed as soon as he entered Belos' mind that he just wanted to get out. He didn't go looking to explore Belos' memories, yet Belos deliberately chose to lead him through them and to choose ones to break him. In conclusion, The Collector was right:

Aww that’s okay; if anything I’m sorry that a show and fandom that used to be enjoyable on the majority have turned into something exhausting and even triggering for a lot of people. What kind of shows are you into at this moment? I’ve seen a lot of people get interested in Danny Phantom lately (the full series is up on Hulu and apparently the season 2 finale anniversary is next week) but I’d love to hear what you personally like these days.

Hope you don't mind me taking the chance to place some recs! For these are really good and can use more attention.

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts

A Dreameorks cartoon on Netflix now confirmed for a 2nd season! Its a colorful post apocalypse world where most humans went underground and animals mutated and evolved to rule it. It has a very Ghibli vibe to it in feel, especially falling animation. Of the humans that are our leads, all three are poc, two African Americans and Kipo is African-Asian (possibly Korean with her naming a pig Mandu). Also has an openly gay character, making it another in the DW roster to include LGBT characters.

Glitch Techs

Sadly canceled the first few months out, too expensive for Nick's taste which is a shame since Glitch Techs is one of the most fun cartoons I've seen in a while, and the animation is so fluid. Its a true love letter to gaming, so many references that gamers of all kind can pick up, and has a very diverse cast, with both leads are biracial (Five is Chinese-Hispanic and Miko is Japanese American). This is also one of those shows that fo siblings right. While cancelled, there are some unreleased eps, hopefully more views can help get the rest of s1, and maybe Nick will fo more with it.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

This has become my favorite adaptation of TMNT made thus far. It has a new fresh spin on characters and set up, fluid animation with small details that you can catch later with a rewatch, really funny and the turtles feel like teenagers and siblings, a very flawed and human Splinter, and April is black in this one and is easily my favorite version of her. Its wholesome, funny, action packed; those in Canada can watch it on Netflix. It is a different take on TMNT, but to me its refreshing and thry are changes I like a lot.

Amphibia

One of two Disney cartoons I've been liking. About a Thai American girl teleported to Amphibia, a world of anthromorphic amphibians. Very wholesome, colorful, and funny. It has some Gravity Falls vibes, though the mystety is more background and its more family focused.

The Owl House

2nd Disney cartoon, a spiritual successor of GF, of sorts. It matches GF in weird and dark tones and designs. And its a fascinating world to see. Luz is full of life and I'm rooting for her to succeed in becoming a witch, Eda is a literal hoot and has a lot of mysteries to her, and King is adorable. I am curious to see if there is something more to him as a lot of fans theorize.

Now this is where we move to rewatch list. Gradually rewatching Spop with my brother (his first viewing) and its been golden. Also been rewatching Inuyasha and AtLA.

For new shows (for me) is checking out Card Captor Sakura for the first time (very cute), and the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime, which has been a lot of fun so far. I will also be checking out s2 of 3Below sometime but, honestly not too excited do its been the back of my list.

And those are all the shows I'm into atm.

I got some fic ideas for AtLA and Trollhunters, here's hoping I can get them going.

Anyone have any Netflix/Hulu/anywhere else suggestions? I’ve rewatched ATLA, SU, and SPOP so many times and I’d like to start another show. I just started “The Dragon Prince” but wanted more suggestions. If they have any LGBTQ+ representation that’s even better, but I’m mostly looking for any cartoon or anime that would be good.

Books and Graphic Novels to curb the She-Ra s5 hangover (Pt.1/?)

So, I've been wallowing in the She-Ra feels for the past few days. Mostly reading fanfics, swimming in Tumblr and rewatching s5 (as most of us are). And, because I'm a big reader, I started thinking about books I've read that remind me of spop. I came up with a handful of books/graphic novels that I’ve already read and made this lil list for my fellow She-Ra loving readers out there. As I read more I will most likely add to this list. (Especially with #prideathon coming up next month!!!) So keep an eye out for part 2...

1) Cosmoknights by Hannah Templer

Okay! So I read this graphic novel semi-recently and freaking loved it! Plot-wise it doesn’t have a whole lot of similarities (except for childhood BFFs... these one are long lost and in need of a reunion though, not at each others throats) to She-Ra. But the art style and queer themes/characters are very She-Ra. Not to mention it’s all about sapphic space knights fighting the patriarchal galactic empire; what more could you want! Literally all of the characters in this book are queer women... and most of them are badass knights or sexy spies and it’s GREAT! I need more people to read this book!!! Also this GN was written by a queer woman! I honestly think the only con to Cosmoknights is that it’s quite new so only Vol. 1 is out right now.

Synopsis: “Pan's life used to be very small. Work in her dad's body shop, sneak out with her friend Tara to go dancing, and watch the skies for freighter ships. It didn't even matter that Tara was a princess... until one day it very much did matter, and Pan had to say goodbye forever. Years later, when a charismatic pair of off-world gladiators show up on her doorstep, she finds that life may not be as small as she thought. On the run and off the galactic grid, Pan discovers the astonishing secrets of her neo-medieval world... and the intoxicating possibility of burning it all down.”

2) Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughan (Author), Cliff Chiang (Illustrator), Matthew Wilson (Colorist), Jared K. Fletcher (Lettering)

Paper Girls is hard to explain but it’s essentially about a group of papergirls in the 1980s who get caught up in a inter-dimensional, time-space tear in the fabric of the universe that lands them and others in different points in time and they must work together to get home. I seriously loved this GN series. The girl gang/girl power aspect and many of the characters and relationship dynamic reminds me of She-Ra. Once again it’s not exactly the same plot but the chaotic sci-fi elements are there. There are cool space monsters, complicated bag guys, gay aliens, and snarky ladies who will smack you over the head with their hockey stick. Its also queer as hell and features a prominent wlw relationship (a relationship that has some delicious catradora vibes if you ask me...)! It’s also a completed series so it’s ready for you to totally binge in this quarantine time!

Synopsis: “Paper Girls follows the story of four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls (Erin, MacKenzie, KJ, and Tiffany) set in Stony Stream, a fictional suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.. While out delivering papers on the morning after Halloween, the town is struck by an invasion from a mysterious force from the future. The girls become unwillingly caught up in the conflict between two warring factions of time travelers.”

3) This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

This is a the book on this list that I’ve read the most recently and it completely blew me away. The prose is stunning and the story is so complex in the most beautiful ways and ties in so wonderfully at the end. Its about two woman on the opposite sides of a time war who are rivals and then fall in love with each other as they send letters back and fourth. If you have already read all the fanfics and are in need of some catradora vibes this is the book for you. It does the enemies to lover trope so so well and I was really impressed by how much emotion El-Mohtar and Gladstone put into their story. Honestly Blue and Red’s romance had me crying at the end (not from sadness!) it was just so moving and heartwarming. Not to mention the world/setting with which this book takes place in is so unique and honestly like nothing I’ve ever read before.

Synopsis: “ Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandant finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. . Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, grows into something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Except the discovery of their bond would mean death for each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win that war.”

4) Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

Okay so this book is the wildcard of the bunch. I was originally going to make this a three book long list but as I was thinking back on the books that I’ve read and Skyward popped into my head. It’s a YA Sci-fi book that’s basically Top Gun but in space and with a headstrong and noble teen girl as the protagonist plus a sentient spaceship. I was wracking my brain for why this book made me think of She-Ra because it’s not queer (as far as I know... I’ve yet to read book two), it’s not really the same hero’s journey type plot and nor are any of the relationships similar to those in She-Ra. But then it hit me. Like She-Ra, this book does a really good job a depicting kids and teenagers as soldiers. All of the characters in this book are made into pilots at a young age to fight an unknown foe. Sanderson does a really good job at showing the repercussions of this, as well as the real life risks to being a soldier in a war. This book also has some Fright Zone vibes with the setting and, the more I think about it, the lead character, Spin, shares a lot of qualities with both Catra and Adora. Qualities which make for a fantastic MC who I think, if universes collided, would be a great addition to the Princess Alliance. (Side bar: this book also has some AWESOME action sequences that literally kept me on the edge of my seat.)

Synopsis: “ Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible—assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.”

BONUS: (aka the honorable/obvious mentions) Lumberjanes and Nimona both by Noelle Stevenson!

Noelle Stevenson is the creator of spop and also a graphic novelist and artist herself (as many of you may know)! I’ve read and loved both of these graphic novels and you can totally see the essence of Noelle’s storytelling that you see in She-Ra appear in these GNs as well. I highly recommend for a reread if you’ve already read them but also if you’re a She-Ra fan and have never picked up any of Noelle’s other works yet this is a great time to do it! They’re also both really queer regrading both themes and characters, which is no surprise cause it’s our Queen Noelle, you guys!

Lumberjanes Synopsis: “At Miss Qiunzilla Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's camp for hard-core lady-types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams. Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together... And they're not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! The mystery keeps getting bigger, and it all begins here.”

Nimona Synopsis: “Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren't the heroes everyone thinks they are. But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona's powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.”

Okay I do want to watch another episode tonight instead of just back-tracking to watch stuff from earlier episodes over and over and roll around in my feelings and yell about them at my partner

BUT (this is from Corridors)

Yeah yeah Horde Prime is evil and the actual villain of the series but the fact is: he could see into Catra's mind. And while obviously he sees affection/love/etc as bad things, he still nevertheless tells Catra (more than once) to her FACE that she still has feelings for Adora.

And yeah the feelings are often a mixed-up mess of envy and resentment, which comes out of Catra as anger and a need for revenge, and which Horde Prime accurately interprets as very painful for Catra--none of those feelings would be as strong without the love and grief under it all and causing so much of it.

It's a cliche but it's true: the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. And Catra might feel many things for Adora but indifferent is not one of them.

And it's just SO TELLING that after Horde Prime's next line: "Don't you want to be free of it?" Catra doesn't think "ha ha yeah that would be a relief lol"

She bristles and gets angry.

And then looks terrified

And YEAH obviously some of it is a logical reaction to being threatened with joining the hive mind.

But also she doesn't actually want to be freed from her feelings for Adora. And I don't know if she even knew it until that moment.

Anyway Daci walked in on me making this post and rewatching the scene and it felt like having them walk in on me watching porn, like I know I'm not doing anything wrong or that would offend them but I still feel like I got caught doing something, anyway it turns out Daci agrees with me and thinks my confusion about it is funny

this one is especially great bc as I point out in my rewatch post, this is. Literally. Through Adora's eyes.

okay this one is mostly the way she says the line, not the screenshot per se

for all that I think in a LOT of these the hotness was unintentional on the part of the people making the show, this one? THIS ONE??? Yeah that was 150% on purpose. Look at how she's POSED, c'mon; anyway I want to kiss the person who storyboarded this ep bc good LORD

I had to stop myself from posting every shot I took of that scene lol

s5 ep8 Shot in the dark

woohooo

Off topic but while looking for fan art of Catra from the portal (ugh I need to try different tags) I instead saw a bunch of anti-Catra and anti-Catradora and anti-spop blogs and jfc people need to get a life and touch some grass and if I'm saying that--

(I mean, I did leave the house today with Saer and their mom, we went to Powell's books where I spent too much money but I got a couple of wlw manga and a Judith Butler book among a few other things, and also we went to a vintage clothing store that seemed to have NO END but I bought one thing there, a lavender satin bathrobe, the short kind; the only thing wrong with it was that it's a bit faded in some places and it's a little small on me but it's a bathrobe, and it was like $26 AND 100% SILK)

a question many astronauts have surely asked as well!

these two squabbling but not actually fighting always sounds like flirting, it doesn't help that a split second after that screenshot, Catra actually smiles for a second

the startled noise they all make when he starts talking lolol

but Catra has some flashes (from when she was in the hive mind) and says Krytis is a planet, nice. There's something there Horde Prime doesn't want them to know--so they head for Krytis, roll intro theme

oh man they really did start changing this up every episode. Look at poor Perfuma's face.

Anyway on Krytis they find an old Horde ship and everyone else is trying to figure out what happened but poor Catra is remembering what it was like to be chipped :(

there's a cute moment when she notices her tail is all fluffy from fear and smooths it out before joining the others

there's a "crack" video where Entrapta's little walk here is dubbed with a clip from an ancient Spiderman show's theme song

Adora laughs longer than anyone else after Catra gets the helmet off and Catra blushes and smiles and everyone stands around not wanting the ruin the moment--and then Entrapta finds something and squeals and startles the shit out of everyone and it's SO GREAT

Catra: "So, wait, the plan is to barge ahead into the structurally unsound building to find some mystery person that we know nothing about, in hopes that they somehow know how to defeat Horde Prime?"

Bow: "You know, we were just gonna recklessly blast our way through that blockade until you stopped us. So this whole thing is basically your idea."

Catra's starting to realize what DORKS they all are and that good-natured teasing is just part of the deal

I didn't mean to get a screenshot that makes it look like Adora is staring at Catra's butt, but(t) I'm not mad about it

Back on Etheria:

Castaspella: "You said you had a plan. The only reason I'm following you is because if anyone would know about mind control, it's you." Shadow Weaver: "Mind control? Is that what they told you? No. My gifts were always far subtler."

I dunno, I think torturing kids is hardly "subtle." But abuse is often hard to spot while it's happening to you.

Okay in fairness she says she was less powerful as well and now he's chipped he's under control by the enemy and they're not strong enough to fight him

On Krytis, the Squad realizes they've gotten confused/turned around in the abandoned ship--"Isn't this where we started?!" There's a growling noise. The hallway somehow gets longer while they're walking in it. Creepy as fuck.

Oh and also it turns out Horde Prime and the First Ones fought over Krytis ages ago and Prime won but then abandoned the place anyway.

Entrapta: also there's someone right behind you

I rewatched a bunch of s1 of She-Ra last night (…instead of writing) and man, the problem with Promise is that I’ve always been too distracted by how cute and heartbreaking the kid scenes are to truly internalize a few things—

First, it’s obviously the turning point at which Catra decides Adora is her enemy (I mean she does have a whole little speech about it)

But also it makes a lot more sense when you KNOW Light Hope is actually kinda evil. She does spend the whole episode telling Adora that having attachments is Bad, and if Adora won’t let Catra go on her own, she’ll fucking force it. Here, I’ll make you and your friend relive parts of your childhood with the specific purpose of making her push you away! And it worked!

I mean, in the long run it doesn’t work. It just takes four seasons to fix it lol.

Oh and I know I said this when I did my rewatch a few weeks ago, but also there’s that scene a few episodes earlier where Shadow Weaver makes Catra think Hordak is gonna fucking kill her (and hooboy is it hard to watch as a child abuse survivor) and Hordak instead makes her Force Captain—and dude. If he’d actually punished her? She would have actually left, I think.

And I don’t think Hordak did it because he actually thought Catra would be good at it. He does it to punish Shadow Weaver.

And @1023sstuff ...you vastly misunderstood the point of the post???? It wasn't meant to be a serious review??? It was literally intended to just be squee and dumb jokes???? I know I didn't put the disclaimer on EVERY post of my rewatch but I did put it on a lot of them: they were, in fact, intended to mostly be squee and dumb jokes. I originally started my rewatch to refresh my memory of the show for a fic I'm writing. There's a few bits of something closer to meta or analysis on some of the posts, or talking about how some of the plot points relate to my own life and experiences, but that wasn't the point of these posts.

If you wanted to make your own Serious Post about that episode or the show in general you're free to do it on your own blog, but it's extremely bizarre to find a random post that clearly isn't doing a serious critique and then criticize it for....not being a serious critique.

"The person only seems interested in what the characters are experiencing" Yes, you are correct. That was in fact what I was doing.

Hey remember when I swore up and down I wasn't going to liveblog my entire rewatch? Good times.

Part of me is like: I would get through these so much faster if I didn't insist on screenshotting them and commenting and making jokes

But the rest of me knows damn well I probably just wouldn't bother watching them?? This way feels a bit like watching it *with* someone, which I always prefer to watching things alone.

Also tbh if I did just marathon them while knitting or something I wouldn't remember anything!! Which would defeat the point!! So here I am.

If you're new to these posts: I am doing a rewatch of She-Ra with the specific purpose of taking notes for a fic I'm working on--but because this is me we're talking about, I also post a ton of screenshots with the purposes of commentary, squeeing at specific scenes, and making jokes. Because it's a rewatch, I don't comment on every plot point and I often mention things that happen later in the show--in other words, these might be confusing if you haven't seen the show yet.

Glimmer's jealousy (over Bow coming to the ball with Perfuma) is SO ANNOYING and I know that's on purpose but boy do I hate most "jealousy makes them obnoxious" plots

ANYWAY one small note: you can tell their budget for this episode is just not very high, because the characters in the background are so often not moving or only moving like one thing.

HEY GUESS WHAT I'm down to the last two episodes of She-Ra in my rewatch

On a related note, should you desire to read them all starting from s1ep1 for some godforsaken reason, here's the link. Please be amused at my claims that I would not do this for every episode and my repeated attempts to cut back on how much I copy/paste dialogue and/or explain the entire plot instead of just making jokes and commentary

If, somehow, you are New Here, I've been rewatching all of the 2018 She-Ra, ostensibly for fic-writing reasons as I had forgotten huge quantities of the plot. I have since become deeply obsessed, as one does.

I make a lot of adult jokes, random asides, references to other things, commentary, and a lot of cursing and crying. I love Catradora and I love Catra especially and have a tendency to add a screenshot every time they so much as look at each other. It seems silly to warn for spoilers at this point, but yeah, this is a RE-watch. It's just that I forgot a lot of it because I watched it the first time as it was coming out (pun intended). The shit I did remember is so fucking random tho lol

The last time I tried to do a two-parter in one post the number of times I had to reblog it because tumblr only allows 30 images per post got real stupid, so while I do still assume I will have to reblog multiple times per episode, I'm doing each episode separately.

ON A RELATED NOTE I know I made the joke in the last episode about how many people have the failsafe as a tattoo but the PROBLEM is that now I literally LIVE with a tattoo artist whose work I like--I already have two tattoos they've done, here and here, and the temptation is extremely high?? but I don't have any other obvious fandom-related tattoos (unless you count the title of a Björk song) so it feels weird to start with this one???? Like I don't have any LoTR or BBC Sherlock or SU or K/DA tattoos (to list off a bunch of fandoms I was devastatingly obsessed with at the time) so getting one for THIS fandom feels kinda weird. But like, also, if I got it kinda small on one wrist it would look kinda cool and be a nice loud DID U KNOW I'M GAY kinda thing. Gyahhh.

She's struggling to do She-Ra, and I'm sitting here YELLING because IT'S BECAUSE CATRA LEFT and UGH I want to murder Shadow Weaver

related aside but like, every culture that figured out bows and arrows invented at least one kind of string instrument. Literally archers just fidgeting with their bows and going "oh this makes a nice sound, what if I put more strings on this thing." So many different places and cultures invented things like a guitar or like a harp or like a violin. But also I want to know who the FUCK figured out the hurdy-gurdy??? oh my god I just looked up the hurdy-gurdy and I'm cracking up because one of the earliest depictions of it is from the 1100's, in the Santiago de Compostela cathedral. A place I have been. Because I did the Camino last year.

I would like to take a moment and be grateful for the people who put together the transcripts on the fandom wiki for saving me typing up long bits of lore-heavy dialogue

She-Ra: "Prime is getting closer every day to figuring out how to access the Heart of Etheria. If he succeeds, he can use it to destroy worlds, galaxies, maybe even the entire universe. The Failsafe is our only chance at stopping him."

"His hold over them grows stronger every day they're chipped. If we don't free them now, we might lose them forever. Prime holds every advantage in this fight. He'll be ready for us. But we have a plan. Entrapta?" Entrapta: "I finally succeeded in cracking Prime's signal pattern. If I get access to his Spire network, I can use it to broadcast a jamming frequency that will disable all of the chips on Etheria, freeing everyone at once!" She-Ra: I need you all to get Entrapta to the Spire and keep Prime's forces distracted while she jams the signal."

"We're going to make sure that Prime can never hurt anyone ever again. We're ending this today. For good."

oh lord so Shadow Weaver is still there, sulking and looking away, and she looks over at her and starts almost losing She-Ra and being Adora again

have I mentioned how much I hate Shadow Weaver >:(

Adora goes outside...and looks around. I know who she's looking for. *sobs into a pillow*

NO. she's LOOKING for her GIRLFRIEND

I made that joke and then Glimmer literally says "Any sign of Catra?" I have to remember that at this point in the story literally everyone knows how in love they both are. Except them. Of course.

Adora: "She's not coming back." ;_;

Adora: I mean you don't have to come with me this could be dangerous Bow: the fuck are you talking about of course we're going

And she turns into She-Ra again, roll intro

Okay so they go to the Crystal Castle thing where Light Hope was

it doesn't look so good

but also that's creepy

anyway they tell the hologram (not Light Hope, the other one) that they're looking for the Heart of Etheria and that they're Friends of Mara. She-Ra gets scanned and then a door opens into a passageway. Bow and Glimmer take her hands and they walk into the hall but:

she's still looking for someone

I have to deal with another episode and change of her looking for Catra ghghggh this hurts meeeee

OH SO OF COURSE they literally switch to showing us Catra

bahaha okay so she sits up and looks behind her kind of sadly, and Melog just skids to a stop so hard they throw Catra off

And Melog looks at Catra like she's fucking nuts. Catra's like, wtf is wrong with you??? and Melog looks back like BITCH WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU??? Catra what did you think was going to happen when you got a therapy animal that can literally read your moods. Melog knows you're being a dumbass and has NO reason to pretend to believe your surface "I don't give a shit" act!!

Melog does airplane ears at that. And then just pounces Catra.

Time for pressure! Just like a real therapy animal. Big weighted blanket!

Catra just immediately starts crying.

Catra: "You saw what happened! Adora chose Shadow Weaver, okay? Not me!"

*sobs into hands* you useless fucking dumbass that is your abysmally low self-esteem talking literally every living semi-sentient thing in the galaxy knows Adora's in love with you EXCEPT YOU

I can get frustrated with AU fics where these two both pull this "but what if she doesn't like me back" thing for ages while everyone around them is face-palming in frustration, but like. You have to admit. It's accurate to canon.

(It's also accurate to lesbians in general, lbh. Either fucking on the first date or doing the "but what if she's not into me" thing for months-to-years. Sometimes both, including in some of the fics I've written, heyooooo.)

Melog purrs and licks her face. A clone approaches and they both go invisible and then follow it.

MEANWHILE

the rest of the rebellion is attacking Horde Prime's ship thing

Wrong Hordak helps Entrapta get into the spire. The whole point of this fight (which I didn't bother screenshotting lol) is to give Entrapta time to disconnect everyone's chips from Horde Prime.

Lol once inside Entrapta does another one of those "holy shit this stuff looks so cool...OMG FOCUS" things

Back at the Crystal Castle Glimmers like "omg are you scared" and She-Ra says "No, I just hope this works." Liar.

Bow: "It'll be okay. And when we get back, it'll be a whole new world."

this poor girl. she's so heartbroken.

(meanwhile the plot of my fic-in-progress is literally them breaking up. (not forever.) but it's hilarious of me to get SO UPSET over this scene when I'm going to force them to repeat it. like it's a mutual decision in my fic but it doesn't make it hurt any less.)

PFFT I unpaused it, and IMMEDIATELY:

oh god I saw someone talking about this in a youtube video right around when I started my rewatch

It's a hologram, she's not actually there. And Catra goes through multiple other ages, including her kid self, being chipped on Horde Prime's ship, when they were Horde cadets, etc; before going back to looking like she does now.

Adora's sharp little gasp of shock here

Adora goes to touch Catra's hand and the hologram disappears

(good lord she's beautiful here)

And I think I agree with the youtube video: Adora knew she was upset about Catra running off, but this is the moment she specifically realizes she's in love, and it breaks her heart into tiny pieces.

(Hah, I actually say a very similar thing in part of my fic that they mention in the video--that previous to this, she refused to let herself want this or even think about it. "I didn't even realize this was something I could want.")

BUT ALSO so like is this a remnant of Light Hope's programming that tortured them with childhood flashbacks in season one (in order to drive them apart) or what

She-Ra: "We need to be careful. It looks like this place can still project memories."

A still-invisible Catra follows the clone to where Horde Prime's ship is and is visibly terrified and shaking. A clone who might be Hordak turns around with that white in his eyes that means Prime is using him to see, and Catra just tries to be quiet and not move but she's obviously triggered, and I mean that in the literal PTSD sense.

Horde Prime (via Hordak?): "My brothers. The time has come at last. No longer shall She-Ra stand in my way."

oh okay so Horde Prime's actual ship is still in space (just orbiting Etheria I assume) and the planet-side thing is him speaking through one of the clones via the hive mind.

"Begin the acquisition process!"

are they just gonna straight-up drill into it?

apparently yes

the whole area lights up with that sickening green light, including all the lines that characters kept noticing on the ground that looked like some combo of circuit boards and First Ones' writing.

meanwhile, Adora keeps slipping out of being She-Ra for split seconds and is clearly stressing The Fuck Out and possibly walking in the wrong direction in her distress, only to walk into another memory/hologram.

And I've predictably hit the image limit, but 13:30 to go which is better than last night pfft okay gonna reblog
