by far my favorite thing to come out of the ao3 bracket polls is the countless people i've seen on this site (and even elsewhere, where it's being monitored and shared) going "i know nothing about star trek but i do know that spirk is where it all began and they deserve to win as far as i'm concerned" bc as a lifelong trekkie and lifelong spirk shipper i cannot begin to tell you the joy that brings me. thank you for your faith, my friends

‘Fuck those anime twinks.’

Man shut the fuck up; those anime twinks crashed tumblr and other major websites multiple times, those anime twinks had an influence on queer media that is still felt to this day, those anime twinks bust through a niche sub genre to almost mainstream, with thousands of people who had never even watched anime becoming invested, those anime twinks changed lives and helped so many burgeoning queer people come to head with their identities like you have no idea, those anime twinks were the third best selling anime of the century despite being a passion project that wasn’t expected to be a hit at all, those anime twinks were written and directed by two women who spent years shopping around their idea, refusing to compromise and fighting censorship even though not doing so would have made getting their project out there so much easier.

Those anime twinks were in the OLYMPICS.

Those anime twinks have only twelve episodes, about four and a half hours total, but have still managed to be among the most beloved ships out there.

They’re also legitimately well written, compelling, and for a lot of people, one of the few patches of joy we had during that autumn of 2016.

I want Hannigram to beat SasuNaru in the ao3topshipbracket so bad, but I know that even if they do they will not win. Because next up they would be up against either Spirk or the Ineffable Husbands, and as much as I love Hannigram, there is no way they could win against either of those pairings.

Naruto and Sasuke quietly gutted Johnlock whilst the rest of Tumblr was distracted by the Stucky/Blackbonnet and Destiel upsets.

As Neil Gaiman said, we lost but the good omens fandom managed to get 73,626 votes for Aziraphale/Crowley during their whole run in the AO3 top ships bracket and I think that's beautiful

Ultimately I think Kirk and Spock are the only logical winner of that ao3 thing. Like you don’t get fandom history at all without them.
