“i left love letters in your locker, don't forget to read them.”
꣑୧ saiki kuriko x fem! reader. (fluff)
warnings; none. <3
a/n; kusuo as a girl (kuriko) is actually so pretty oml i HAD to write something about her :<
(apologies for any grammar mistakes, english is not my first language^^)
Tumblr media
recess was about to end soon. you and your usual circle of friends were sitting at a table somewhere near the entrance of the cafeteria.
they were being loud as usual, but you didn't mind, they were your best friends after all.
though for some reason, you couldn't seem to focus on whatever topic they were shouting on about to eachother.
instead, your mind was being occupied by a pink haired friend of yours, one that was sitting right across from you on the table.
saiki kuriko, she was one of your closest friends and long time crush.
she was quiet, reserved and liked to be alone most of the time, but you'd always find yourself spending time with her quite often.
even though she doesn't really say much, she has always had this silent charm to her that has never failed to draw all of your attention to her.
despite all of your feelings towards her, you knew that you could never confess, you were too scared to cause you knew you could possibly put your current friendship into jeopardy.
‘i'm completely happy with staying friends with her.. right? yeah, i totally am. she doesn't have to know anything, i don't wanna lose her.’
well, too bad for you. kuriko could only raise her eyebrows as she heard your thoughts.
unbeknownst to you, kuriko felt the exact same way. only difference is, she had already planned on confessing her feelings to you.
her plan was already underway as of right now.
so far, she successfully wrote three long and heartfelt letters expressing her admiration and love for you.
that was a lie. each letter only had ‘i like you.’ ‘you're very pretty.’ and ‘be my girlfriend.’ written on them. she tried her best.
she was able to teleport those letters into your locker, in exchange for some silly cat drawings you kept. (but don't worry, she made sure to remember to give them back to you.)
now, all she had to do was to tell you about the written confession she left so that you wouldn't miss them before you went home.
easy enough right?
wrong, seems like kuriko didn't think hard enough about that part.
there's no way she would actually *tell you* that she was confessing. that's absur–
ringgg!
the bell rung, signalling the students to go back to each of their classes.
each of you stood up from your seats and started to bid eachother goodbye before making your way out of the cafeteria.
“y/n, wait.”
kuriko held your wrist to prevent you from walking for a moment. you turned to look at her, and so did your other friends.
unfortunately, kuriko didn't notice that they did. her focus was completely on you.
“ah, yes?”
“i left love letters in your locker, don't forget to read them.”
she told you bluntly. you were stunned, unable to move as your mouth hung open.
after a moment of silence, you quickly regained your composure and nodded with slightly red cheeks.
“o-oh, i see. okay, kuriko. ill be sure to read them.”
kuriko only responded with a nod and slight smile before turning away and walking towards her next class.
she felt accomplished, all she had to do now was to wait for your response to her feelings, even though she already knew your answer, she wanted to hear it come out of your own mouth.
“woaah, y/n! didn't know our pal kuriko had the hots for ya! congratulations!”
she froze as her train of thought suddenly came to a halt.
others thoughts started to fill her brain as she slowly realized what she did.
she DID NOT just tell you that in front of all the others.. right?
‘im done for.’
Tumblr media
this was way too rushed than i intended it to be 😭 it's literally almost 1 in the morning and im just finishing this up.
i hope this was still readable anyway, i promise that ill be posting better stuff soon! xoxo

Chapter Nine: The Powers of a Shadow
Tumblr media
Summary: Being a psychic is not an ideal life, at least for Saiki Kusuo. Didn’t you read/watch The Disastrous Life of Saiki K to know that? Still, this isn’t about him, not really. Instead, let’s focus on his one and only friend, Akari Watanabe, who is also quite abnormal. You might not believe that Saiki would actually have a friend, but that’s what fanfictions are about, right?

ONCE AGAIN, IT WAS A YET ANOTHER miserable start to Akari's day. Though that wasn't new. She found every start to her day to be miserable, with a minuscule amount being slightly okay. Akari had been woken up by her brother, who decided it was a good idea to jump on her while she was asleep. Hopefully, he'll learn not to do something like that again now that he was hanging upside-down by his ankles in the hallway. The black tendril hung from the ceiling holding the poor shouting teen in a sort of upside-down time out. Akari saw that as the perfect punishment for her little brother, maybe he'll think twice about bothering her so dramatically, especially in the morning. However, he probably wouldn't heed this warning. Considering he had done this multiple times and been punished just as many times for it. He truly is an annoying little brother at times.
Running her hand through her inky hair, Akari yawned and gracefully climbed out of the tangle of blankets and stretched. Her bones gave out a few satisfying cracks as she quickly made her bed at least somewhat presentable. Though it's not like anyone can see it, considering it was still so dark in the room. However, just as she finished making her bed, which was basically just throwing her duvet over it unceremoniously, she spied something over her shoulder.
That something is you.
Her yellow eyes pinpointed you with a disgruntled look. "Should I even question why you're here?" She didn't get a reply, since you can speak to her directly through this fanfiction, but she at least thought you were shaking your head. She clicked her tongue, "whatever, you do know it's quite creepy to be here, right?" Akari narrowed her eyes, "Were you watching me sleep? You really are weird."
Though she brushed it off and started to collect her things for the day. After making sure that she had her school bag together and found her uniform, she used the shadows to completely envelop you. Ultimately blindfolding you with the darkness while she ruffled around her clothes. Finally, things became a little less dark as the shadows retreated from your face. Akari was now wearing her P.K. uniform instead of her long black sleeve shirt, and pajama bottoms. She stared at you, "I wasn't going to let you watch me change, you pervert. Why are you even here?" She contemplated why you were there for a moment since there wasn't an episode to write about at the moment. Though she clicked her fingers once she thought of something.
"Oh, I see. You must be wondering what my abilities are exactly." She tapped her chin in contemplation, "I guess MJ hasn't really explained what I can do clearly. Though if she has, good job to her, first thing she's done right in a long time. Anyway, I guess I can spend a few minutes explaining things." She sat down on her bed and shrugged her shoulders. "Saves me from having to do it later. It'll have to be quick though, I've got to get to school soon." Akari took a breath, ready to start her slightly long explanation on everything. She held up three fingers, "There are really only three abilities that I have. An obvious ability that I think all of you can understand; Shadow Manipulation. I can move shadows and make them do what I like, pretty self-explanatory."
For demonstration, Akari moved a shadow from the floor into a tendril that curled around her pale hand like a snake. "I can make them into tangible tentacles to move things around, it's quite useful. I also don't have any limitations with his ability, except maybe I get tired after doing it constantly for a very long time. Kind of like how people get tired after working out for too long." She flicked her hand and the shadow dissolved back into the background. "Second ability; Shadow Form. I'm able to transform my entire body into a shadow. Of course, you're still able to see my eyes, which gives me a bit of a demonic atmosphere, but it's still cool." Her body then transformed into said shadow. Her entire form blackened as her features disappeared except for her distinct yellow, cat-like eyes. "I take on the properties of a shadow and can do just about anything a shadow technically could. I'm a moving shadow, that's just about it." Her body flattened as she slithered off of the bed and across her room. It was a bit unnerving to see her do that. It almost looked like a shark's shadow swimming in the ocean, or at least it at the same terrifying energy as seeing a shark swimming near you. She reformed her body across the room near her door. She daintily grabbed her school back off of her desk chair and turned to you. "There are a tad bit more risks and limitations that come with this form. A weakness that I've found after a few years of actually using it. I call it consumption or being consumed by darkness. I can explain that now, but I feel like just waiting for MJ to do it in a later chapter since she'll definitely use it for dramatics," Akari rolled her eyes, "though bright lights are certainly the biggest weakness of mine. Since if it's bright out or something and there are no shadows, I can't manipulate things that aren't there, and I can't turn into a shadow because shadows can't survive in bright places." Honestly, that seemed like a given. If it wasn't clear before, hopefully, you understand now. "My final ability, if you can call it that, is what I refer to as Veil of Shadows. I've always had this ability and it's always turned on. I can't seem to stop using this ability. It basically affects my entire body, making people unable to see me unless I make my presence known by speaking." She explained, "The only people who seem to be immune to it are my family, Ku-kun and Nendo. It's a bit strange, but I like it since I don't get noticed all that much." Akari then opened up the door, cringing at the light coming in from the hall. "Something Ku-kun is obviously jealous about."
"What's Kusuo-nii jealous about?" Rikuto asked as he stared at her upside-down figure just as she exited her bedroom. His face had become quite red since he's been held upside down for a while now. Akari turned to stare at her brother and the fact that she had left him there like that for quite some time.
She waved her hand and the shadow holding up Rikuto retracted, letting the junior high schooler out of his time out. Though he fell to the ground ungracefully and face planted. Akari answered him, "A lot of things."
Rikuto groaned loudly in pain as he slowly stood up. He rubbed his bruised cheek, "Who were you talking to?"
"No one important," Akari said before turning to you with a plain look and heading downstairs, "Let's just head down for breakfast."
Rikuto trailed after her with an irritated expression, "Hmm, you're really weird..."
Akari's expression became blank as she turned her gaze to you. "Not as weird as some people." You aren't exactly sure if she's referring to you as the weird one or her brother. Though after reading the eight other chapters, you already know just how weird Rikuto can be.
The siblings walked down the stairs and found their father dancing around in the kitchen. He was just finishing up making breakfast for his children. There were already a few plates of an assortment of food. Rikuto's pain was instantly forgotten as he jumped towards the table and grabbed himself a plate. It was a bit disgusting how he ate so savagely.
Yamato beamed his usual sparkling smile as his bright eyes gleamed at his children. He placed the last plate in front of Akari, "Here you go, my shining light! A perfect breakfast for my perfect little girl!"
"Thanks, dad," Akari thanked her father as she picked up her chopsticks to start eating her food.  "Did mom already leave?"
Yamato sighed heavily as he leaned against the kitchen counter in front of the two. His blue iris held a small amount of resignation as he deflated. "Yes, she left about thirty minutes ago." He ran a hand through his salt-pepper hair, "I tried to talk to her about thinking of going to work a bit later, but you know her."
"Stubborn as usual."
Her father groaned, "She really needs to rest some more, but she's a busy woman."
Akari scoffed, "She's a workaholic, that's what you mean."
"Maybe," Yamato obviously was at a bit of a dilemma here. He wanted to have his wife around more, as most people want when their significant other was away all the time. "But you know how much she loves her company work. Can't ask her to stop doing something she loves so much."
Rikuto jumped up suddenly as he swallowed the large mouthful of food, "Why don't we go to the book shop this weekend! As a family!"
Yamato beamed with his usual blinding smile. The idea of Rikuto suggesting the entire family reserving time to spend time together was so heartwarming for him. His poor, fatherly heart was bursting with love at the prospect of having his entire family together, even if it was for just a short time, "Perfect idea, my darling boy!"
While their father continued to gush at the idea, already planning to go through with it, Akari leaned over to her smug brother. "You only want to go because of the sale on manga, and you're going to try and convince them to buy you a bunch since you ran out of your allowance for the week already." Sher could already see through his little plan, even if he tried to hide it. It was quite obvious, to just about anyone with more than two brain cells. You could probably even see through it. Well, as long as you have more than two brain cells, which I'm sure you do.
"SHHH!!" Rikuto hushed her harshly before he cleared his throat, "I just want to spend time with my awesome family, is that so much to ask?"
Akari stared at him boredly, obviously not really believing him, but just pushed away her nearly empty breakfast plate. "Whatever." She stood up and slung her school back over her shoulder, "I'm heading out now."
Finally breaking out of his little bubble of excitement for just a moment, Yamato waved excitedly at his eldest child, "Bye~" Rikuto just waved over his shoulder at her as he continued to inhale in even more food. He is literally a black hole for food!
Akari exited the front door and glided down the stairs towards her friend who was waiting for them. Today was going to be a pretty normal day, she was sure of it. Besides you being around for this morning, nothing significant was going to happen. The next chapter will obviously be another short episode from the show, so you have that to look forward to next week(or whenever MJ can update because we all know she isn't consistent. A terrible writer, honestly).
Kusuo stood at the front gate, waiting for his friend to head to school with him. Though his eyes sharpened when he caught sight of you right behind Akari. 'What are they doing here?'
She glanced over her shoulder catching sight of you. Honestly, Akari kind of forgot that you were there since you were so quiet. Guess she knew what it was like when people forgot that she was around now. Akari looked up to Kusuo and shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. Guess MJ just wanted to write an original chapter again. Either that or she's just using this as an exposition dump." She tapped her chin in thought, "I think it might be both, actually."
'And they've been watching you this entire time?' Kusuo asked, glancing down at her with a small flicker of emotion on her face. If you had to pinpoint it, it almost seemed like concern. He obviously didn't like the fact that you had been stalking Akari since she woke up without him being around. After all, what if you were trying to be malicious towards her. I mean, we both know that you couldn't actually do anything to her since you're just a reader, but still, he was just looking out for her. He has her back, just as much as she has his.
"Yeah."
Kusuo glared right at you, causing you to shiver in fear. 'Perverts.'
Akari rolled her eyes at his seemingly protective aura. As much as he tried to act as though he didn't care, she knew that he cared all too much about her well being. Despite the fact that she is more than capable of looking after herself. "Leave them alone, let's just head to school." She spared you one small little wave of her dainty hand and gliding away, "Bye."
Kusuo glared at you, the obvious disgust that he had for you at this moment quite clear through his green-tinted glasses. Though what best friend wouldn't be, considering he now knew that you had been watching Akari sleep and such this entire morning. He narrowed his eyes even further, giving him the appearance of a snake as he grunted, 'Chapter over.'

Hi! Could I get a request for Kusuo himself? So bare with me cause this may or may not be a little but based of a dream I had. Okay so the reader and him are older and engaged and they are having an engagement party. They invited his high school friends (I think he would be like barley out of college) and his family, parents, grandparents, and his brother (who he most definitely didn’t wanna invite but part of him knew his brother would be upset abt him getting engaged first and that made it just a bit better). No one knows about the engagement cause I feel that Saiki is someone to tell people huge news like it is nothing. They find out by the end and it’s just chaos and support. Bonus points of Kusuo gets emotional. Ik this is a mess and I apologize. Also if you don’t like anything please change or ignore this request. Have an amazing day!
Hello, Anon! I really hope this lives up to your maybe dream! This was such a cute thing and I hope you enjoy it! Thank you for this request!

—————————————————–
Today was the day. Kusuo had proposed to you only a few days ago, and you had to say, it was the happiest day of your life yet. Honestly speaking, it still didn’t feel real. Kusuo Saiki was going to be your husband. You knew for sure he’s the right person for you and there was no doubt all your friends and family would be super excited for you both. It was a dream come true, and you’d never been so sure you made the right decision. You hadn’t told anyone yet, opting to go the engagement party route instead. And that was why today was such a big deal. In a mere couple of hours, you’d be breaking the news to everybody. The plan was simply to hold the party in your shared house, as you knew Kusuo would prefer a small get together rather than a large scale party. You were placing the last few things in place when your fiancé came into the room, walking up behind you and wrapping his arms around you.
“Y/N. They’re going to be here soon,” he grabbed your left hand, admiring the ring on your finger, “Is everything ready?” You leaned back into his touch, appreciating how much he cared about this gathering despite him not wanting to make a big deal out of everything. You had put a lot of effort into this. For Kusuo’s sake, you decided not to just announce it right off the bat, it would be better to do so near the end and in a calm fashion. You knew his opinions on drawing attention to himself had not changed much over the years, and your shared friend group was still blissfully unaware of his powers. Even so, he just didn’t see the real reason behind making a huge deal out of something. Yes - this really was the most important decision of his life, and he didn’t regret it for a second - but he didn’t feel the need to make it a huge event. You understood but still wanted to do something special to celebrate. Kusuo was not one to deny you of that and was happy enough to help you set something up.
The doorbell rang, ruining your small moment. You were rather excited to see your first guest. It had been a long while since you’d seen most of these people, considering you both had to work and adult life, in general, is always getting in the way. It made meeting up difficult. You made sure today would be doable for everyone invited. It was crucial as many of your loved ones came as possible. You’d made your way over to the door opening it to reveal a few of your friends, Nendou, Kuboyasu, and Kaidou.
“Hello, everyone!” You greeted, “Please, come in!”
An unorganized chorus of “Hello Y/N.” rang out from your friends' mouths as they walked in. You, unlike your fiancé, were overjoyed to see them, looking forward to having this party. None of them really knew for sure why they were there, but you counted on them not asking just yet. You’d only invited people over under the pretense you wanted to host a get-together and missed every one. Your excuse had been generally accepted, and many of the people involved had been meaning to plan something like this anyway. As you all got comfortable in the living room, sitting down and catching up, the doorbell rang yet again. In a rush, you got up to answer the door, now welcoming in Saiki’s grandparents as well as Teruhashi and Yumehara. The rest of the invitees came soon after, including Hairou, Saiki’s parents. Now you were only missing Kusuke Saiki, Kusuo’s brother (who may or may not have been given a time just a little later by Kusuo, the less he has to see him the better).
The party was really just getting started. All your guests were thankful for this time to relax - escaping various parts of their lives, whether it be children, jobs, or other obligations. The atmosphere in the room was so lively and energetic, near-constant laughter as everyone was re-experiencing the joys of their distant high school days. It was clear how much everyone missed each other, the group had grown so close over those years and all of you had hoped that it would stay that way after high-school ended.
Kusuo’s family was catching up in their own right, his grandparents taking advantage of this chance to see their eldest grandson (who had arrived, but Kusuo was doing his best to avoid him). His parents were thankful for the chance too since Kusuke still lived in England. Even that group was vibrant in its own right.
Now that all the guests were happy in their own right, Kusuo had taken to being glued by your side. A lot was going on in the room, and you brought him a tranquil, peaceful feeling. As he was standing near you, while you happily conversed with Kuboyasu and Yumehara, you looked as if you were glowing. He never, ever, forgot why he proposed, but he found himself finding more and more reasons why he was glad he did every day since. There was a small part of him that was looking forward to this announcement. Kusuo was snapped out of his thoughts when you grabbed his hand, gaining his attention.
“Are you okay, Kusuo? I know there must be a lot going on in the room right now. If you need to go for a bit I understand.”
Wow. You must be more perfect than he thought. “I’m okay. Just got lost in thought. Let’s tell them soon, yeah?”
You teasingly smiled up to him, “Someone is excited now, hmm?” you communicated to him through your thoughts, knowing he was listening. His eyebrows went up ever so slightly, “And what if I am?” your smile grew just enough to turn into a small smirk.
“Then I win.” You whispered out loud, but only loud enough for Kusuo to hear. You lightly punched him on the chest, before walking away to talk to some more of your friends. At one point, you even slid into conversation with Kusuo’s family. Recently, you had not really seen most of his family, other than his parents. It was nice to visit with them and see how they were doing.
At some point, the majority of people had made their way into the general seating area, forming one large group. Some were making small talk still and others were just enjoying the environment. You had made your way over, sitting down with everyone else, Kusuo following suit. He held onto your hand while sitting, you could tell he had honestly been enjoying this. Deep down, he did miss his friends.
You leaned in to whisper in his ear, “Do you think it’s time?”
He didn’t answer right away, thinking about it for a short moment before giving you a curt nod. Not wasting a second, whether it be out of pure excitement or rather making the announcement before Kusuo changes his mind, you were stood up and clearing your throat.
“We have something to share with everyone,” You said we, but Kusuo hadn’t even stood up yet, not that you thought he intended to.
“We’re getting married!”
The room erupted in cheers, you’re pretty sure you even heard Kaidou exclaim “I knew it!” at some point. Either way, so many shouts of congratulations were thrown at the two of you, it was a bit overwhelming. However, the grin never left your face. Kusuo’s mom, grandmother, and brother demanded all the details, his father was congratulating his son, his brother was doing his best to be happy for his baby brother (even if this was yet another “competition” Kusuo won). All of your friends wanted details too. You spared Kusuo’s pride and did not repeat his exact proposal, which had been the cutest thing.
In all the chaos, you were surprised when Kusuo pulled you into a hug and pushed his face into your neck. You felt your shoulder become slightly damp, though chose not to comment on it right now. You subtly rubbed circles on his back, whispering to him about how happy you were.
He lowly whispered as well, using his actual voice to talk to you, “I love you Y/N.”
“I love you too, Kusuo.”
When he pulled back from the hug, he was smiling too. The moment couldn’t have been more perfect for either of you. All the support from your friends and family was immense and amazing, and neither of you would ask for it any differently. This act warranted a small shock from the crowd, they rarely saw him this emotional. He was often only emotional when it came to you.
Dessert was had next, and Kusuo was even less willing to leave your side than before. Tonight, he had finally decided he wanted to celebrate his future with you. He couldn’t be more excited. Everything had gone so well, neither of you would even dream of asking for anything else. Truly, it was perfect. There was so much to look forward to.

Crossover Crush Competition
Wherein which our dear characters meet their rival for your affections.
The twist is that they're from somewhere else.
Another universe!
I've been writing a lot of BNHA but we need some more love for the two other fandoms I write for!
But let's get into the contestants.... Shall we?
Thoughts in quotes are italicized.
In Kusuo’s case, words spoken through telepathy are bolded and italicized and are in quotes.

Round 1
Saiki Kusuo VS. Manuda Kaede (Saiki K & Kakegurui)
"It seems this is a running theme."
The thought was drier as the would-be tone used. Saiki's eyes didn't leave the bouncing form in the distance, the blur of two figures coming closer and becoming more clear with every step.
He'd wait though.
Always for you.
With that sweet as sugar smile he silently admired, you practically sang, "Kusuo!!"
His gaze drifted to the tall boy beside you. Just barely able to keep his expression neutral when he felt the onslaught of unpleasant thoughts from his head.
"So, this is the one that Jabami mentioned... I don't quite see what the fuss is."
Saiki nearly cringed, catching himself before he'd rolled his eyes.
It seems brooding megane were the type you attracted.
"What a pain."
"Kusuo, this is my friend from school," You gestured "Manyuda - senpai, this is Kusuo! My childhood friend."
Violet clashed with onyx, gazes hardening once they've crossed.
The psychic nearly considered taking off his own lenses, but with you there, he couldn't risk it.
No matter.
"Nice to meet you." The white haired male stiffly greeted. "I will be joining you both on this study session."
Kusuo just nodded.
Slowly, dark eyes flickered to give him a once over whilst the dialogue in his head played out. "There's nothing noteworthy of this Saiki Kusuo, seemed I was concerned for nothing. I don't understand why there's nothing but pictures of him in that notebook."
A fury blazed under his skin once those thoughts reached him, it'd apparently started showed in his face as he sees Manyuda narrow his eyes in return. But he didn't let him get the satisfaction for losing his temper for no good reason. Especially not in front of you.
"Ku?" The chime of your voice was filled with concern, making butterflies come alive in his stomach to overtake the anger.
"Let's go, my mom probably set out snacks."
Pointedly, he made eye contact with Manyuda and reached to take your hand.
A smug smile threatened to pull at his lips as he saw his shoulders tense.
"... Perhaps he is more of a threat than I thought."
Oh, he had no idea.
Round 2
Teruhashi Kokomi VS. Bakugo Katsuki (Saiki K & BNHA)
Teruhashi had a problem with Bakugo Katsuki.
He was a brute would be her first gripe.
Crude, rude, mouthy - not to mention cocky, self-righteous, and just straight up arrogant. It'd made him completely immune to her charms, even though he'd never hope to match up to her beauty.
Though she begrudgingly admitted he is good looking, though not enough to act how he does.
But that wasn't the root cause of the issue.
He was smart.
So much so that he could tell that she was putting up a front the entire time. It was frustrating how observant he was as it'd made him call her out even at risk of his own reputation.
Though it's clear he didn't care what people thought about him anyway so he has nothing to lose. He looked through her like it was the easiest thing he'd ever done.
But that wasn't the problem either.
Even though he drove her nuts with his indifference to her, his annoyance at her very presence.
How he'd branded her a “fake” and an “extra” boiled her blood.
She was tough - as thick skin was something she had to have as the pretty and perfect girl.
Bakugo Katsuki is a menace.
A handsome, smart, talented, menace that knew what he wanted.
They'd be a powerful pair if it weren't for one factor...
Her problem was him being around you.
Her crush.
You were lovely! So charming and soft, there's no pressure to be perfect around you because of that sugary aura and lovingly accepting nature. That tendency to fire back and match a flame makes you terribly alluring...
Much to her dismay, she wasn't the only one that thought so.
She sees how he looks at you.
How different he treats you to the rabble...
It makes her skin crawl.
"Hello, Teruhashi - san!" Chirpy and upbeat, bright eyes and all, the requisite greeting she'd grown endeared to.
"... Faker." Bakugo hissed, eyes suspiciously trained on her smile.
He stood unnecessarily close to you, hands stuffed into the pockets of his sagging pants. She could tell he was itching to hold your hand, not unlike her.
The two of them were prideful though.
Unwilling to back down.
"Shall we go? That sweets shop isn't going to be open forever." Kokomi beamed at you nonetheless, radiance pouring from her.
There was no stares of envy directed at them, likely having been scared off by the explosive blond. Knowing of his dislike for her helped in that case too.
"Sounds good." You hummed, unaware of the tension between your friends.
Carmine met sapphire.
Bolts of electricity shot between them, competitive and fiery.
It pained her to admit that he was a worthy rival.
But there can only be one victor.
Round 3
Saotome Mary VS. Uraraka Ochako (Kakegurui & BNHA)
Carefully setting teeth, careful not to grind. Withholding from speaking ruinous words lest favor is tipped differently. Peals of jealously curled deep in her gut, only barely offset by the feelings of affection blanketing her in warmth.
Uraraka was simply too cute.
Too nice.
There's no way she could be this naive, right?
Mary teetered on that fine edge, unable to tell the motives of her apparently oblivious rival in romance.
She'd barely able to keep herself composed when it came to matters of the heart. Her quirk went haywire, turning so red that she'd match the blazer Mary donned.
Sutbly nonexistent in Uraraka's dictionary, plain and simple,
But her suspicion remained, ever looming and growing.
Then there was you.
Genuinely oblivious, charismatic, kind, and so endearingly stupid... No wonder the both of them vyed for your attention so readily.
Though it seemed to be unknown to Ochako that Mary was even competition.
Her thoughts buzzed, "Or...."
Biting the inside of her cheeks, golden gaze narrowing into pinpricks.
A wash of irritation.
"She didn't think I was noteworthy enough to be considered."
Not until today.
Today would be the day.
"Uraraka Ochako."
The brunette looked startled, standing betwixt her friends. Of whom were surprised to see Saotome standing before them, her head held high with a burning fire in her gaze.
Uraraka suddenly felt uneasy, judging by her look.
Both of them knew of each other, yes, but only because of associating with you.
"C - can I help you, Saotome - san?" She squeaked out, confused.
Plantings her hands on her hips, the girl in question straightened her back and stared right at her.
Between parted pink lips, dropped a bomb, "This is a declaration of war."
"E - eh? Saotome - sa -"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about, not even you can be that much of an airhead." Mary scoffed gently, reaching her hand up and sweeping her pigtail back.
Her friends were unable to speak, unable to believe that this was in fact happening.
"For..."
The blond fixed her rival with a gaze, a little vindicated to watch her flinch back at the syllables of your given name. Nothing but a determination lined her eyes and she was going to make good on the promise she made.
"The rules are there will be no sabotage," She plainly stated "and we will be happy no matter which one of us wins out."
Uraraka still stood, gaping and red in the face.
Mary didn't stay for her answer, turning on her heels and knowing exactly where to find you.
This was her day after all.
She didn't turn her head, just kept walking.
Distinctly, she wondered if she'd been mistaken.
Ochako's shout made her pause mid-step, made her wait to make sure it was her rival that spoke...
After this night, there will be no mercy.
"... Let's do our best!!"
"Let's go to war."

No Powers Saiki AU (3k)
Where he also has anxiety and selective mutism. (But also, nobody has powers. And that volcano issue never happens because I SAID SO.)
Uhm uhhhh, in no way am I a doctor, so this may not be very accurate. Sorry!!
TW: Panic attack, I don’t think this one needs a skip so I’ll just leave it as that (but if you need one, tell me :eyes:)
Also on my ao3!
Also well shit, I do like myself some good Kusuo and Akechi friendship :,)
Also also, ugggghhhhhh, the italics stuff don’t go through when I copy and paste from my docs rip. This is why I prefer ao3 more (and because their tagging system is HEAVENLY) so if you wanna read with all them proper italics I suggest switching to my ao3
ALSO ALSO ALSO, RIGHT WHEN I FINISHED THIS, I DISCOVERED ASL AND JSL ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SO D A R N H E C K I’M SORRY. I did a big oopsie,,,let’s,,,pretend that asl,,,is,,default,,?
Saiki Kusuo was not your typical boy.
Since he was young, it had been painfully obvious that he was a gifted child, surpassing his brother by intelligence and strength. This had drawn many curious scientists to him, and after several tests that went on for hours and hours, he finally broke. He stopped talking and he stopped wanting to be around people.
His mother, equally as tired of the scientists as her son was, decided to hide his identity away from the public, constantly moving from location to location to avoid the people who knew of her son’s abilities.
This barely helped with Kusuo’s social development as a child, so the more he moved, the more he decided that he would much rather live in an isolated world than a world filled with people with prying eyes and loud mouths.
He did make a friend once though, but it barely lasted due to unforeseen circumstances that involved a few beat up bullies, and it had surprisingly hurt when he had to move away again. Akechi was his first real friend, and realizing that he won’t be seeing him again felt weird.
As much as he loved being alone, a friend would’ve been nice.
So the night before they moved away, he had pushed open his parents’ door, gripping his pajama top tightly, and whispered really really softly to his mother, “Mama. Will I ever make a friend?”
It was the first time he had spoken in a very long time, in fact, his mother couldn’t remember the last time he had spoken to her without pointing and hand gestures. So predictably, she cried and hugged him tight, mumbling how sorry she was for ruining his chance at making a friend, too caught up with trying to avoid those nosey scientists.
Middle school went by like a blur, aside from the occasional school switch that still happened, yet not as often as elementary. He didn’t remember a single thing that happened during those school days, maybe a few anxiety attacks in the bathroom and a sad attempt at trying to socialize, but that was it. Maybe it really was easier to be alone, at least he wouldn’t have to worry about losing his breathing from the sheer amount of stress he got from the assembly hall.
Highschool came and Kusuo had a new plan: Accept that having friends are not necessary and speaking with your mouth is dumb.
He quickly learnt how to use ASL, much preferring that language over vocally speaking, and made sure his grades were as average as possible. He had excelled through middle school and elementary school like it was nothing, but it had led him to be placed on stage many times because of this. So no more of that, because that was a recipe for disaster to him.
Kusuo made sure everything was in perfect place before heading to school. He made sure the school knew about his condition, and he also made sure to let them know he didn’t want to be publicly known as the school’s “mute kid”, so he’d definitely blend in without an issue.
Kusuo couldn’t believe what was happening. He hadn’t even fully registered his first year of highschool properly and his second year was already here.
To start off, he had friends, something he did not expect to have. He could predict many things, the weather, what people were thinking, and if he tried hard enough, he could even predict who would walk by his classroom in the next second. But he did not see this one coming.
He didn’t even know how. Nendou was a dunce who went from copying his homework to hanging around and inviting him out for ramen and Kaidou was a chuunibyou who thought Kusuo’s hand gestures was some sort of secret language and ended up perceiving Kusuo as some ally to Jet Black Wings.
Yumehara, for no reason other than the fact that Kusuo looked cute, decided she was meant to be with him. A lot of effort was taken to avoid her, but just as she lost interest in him, the class- no, the world’s idol decided she’d have a crush on him too. Then there was the class representative, Hairo, who constantly screamed and moved and how does he not get tired?
Then there was Kuboyasu, Toritsuka, Aiura, and so many people it made his head spin.
But they all had one thing in common when they communicated with him, and that was the fact that they all thought he was deaf. Granted, people who use ASL were commonly deaf, so he wasn’t blaming them for assuming so, and it did help him a little since this made them talk less around him and gave him a good excuse for ignoring them half the time.
Two years he spent in this highschool, and not once had he fired rapid ASL before. He never got the chance to, and he didn’t have much care for doing so. Mostly because most of the people around him didn’t even understand sign language.
But sometimes, listening to Toritsuka talk on and on about some cute girl could really put you on edge. Especially when he kept egging Kusuo on about the type of girls he liked.
The thing was, Kusuo didn’t like romance. He liked observing it and the idea of it, but he would never want to be a part of it. Frankly enough, he didn’t find any joy in it, he much preferred a life of solitude.
“C’mon, I know you can understand me, Saiki,” Toritsuka poked, grinning widely. “What kind of girls are you into? Or perhaps are into boys? Seriously, tell me, maybe we can go on a double date sometime. What about Teruhashi--“
Kusuo scowled, taking a step back and suddenly flying into fast ASL that roughly translated to several insults and long explanations as to why Kusuo wasn’t going to tell him. Toritsuka only blinked in surprise, because he swore he just saw the middle finger between those fast hand gestures, and he took a step back, raising his hands in defeat.
“Relax! Alright!” Toritsuka said, dropping the subject for good. “Next time fling me a note or something, that is seriously intimidating!”
Kusuo winced, feeling the third piece of paper Kaidou had just flung at him hit his head. This had been going on for the whole period, and Kusuo wondered why the teacher hadn’t noticed it yet. Most of the notes Kaidou sent weren’t serious anyways, and clearly not worth writing back to him.
He barely understood the references the boy was making anyways.
“How about we hang out after school? Do you like cake?” The last note read.
Kusuo smiled softly. “Yes, I do like cake.” He wrote, and with ease, he strategically threw it back so it would land perfectly on Kaidou’s table.
Being around Teruhashi was not ideal at all, because wherever she went, many people would follow. Kusuo hated crowds more than anything, it made his throat close up and his face a little sweaty, though his facial expression would never express his discomfort.
It would always remain blank and devoid of emotions.
Which always peaked Teruhashi’s interest. She found it a challenge to make the “deaf” kid who barely spoke gasp at her beauty, it would be a mighty achievement, yet no matter how hard she tried, it just never worked, which only pushed her to try harder. It resulted in her falling in love with him, unfortunately.
“Saiki does have a cute face though,” Teruhashi mumbled under her breath right as she walked along with Kusuo. She assumed he couldn’t hear her, so she regularly said things like those quietly to herself whenever he wasn’t looking her way. He appreciated the compliment at times, but sometimes, they do get a little creepy.
Nendou probably didn’t understand the idea of deaf people, or perhaps he thought his idea was pretty smart. Either ways, Kusuo sometimes couldn’t understand why he had to shout at him to communicate.
Did Nendou think deaf people just had very very poor hearing? Probably. But it often got annoying when they were in public places, and Kusuo couldn’t even tell him to quiet down because he couldn’t tell when exactly he was actually shouting.
Both his shouting and talking volume were around the same range.
But, it was rather nice of him to go out of his way to learn a bit of sign language just so he wouldn’t have to shout at Kusuo anymore. It was actually pretty nice having an ASL buddy.
Note to self, do not use ASL around Kuboyasu too much. He will and can mistake them as gang signs and get either sappy or angry. Kusuo said in his head as he watched Kuboyasu stare off into the distance with his fists clenched, reminiscing about his gang days.
Several times Kusuo had mistaken Hairo’s sad attempt at ASL as actual words and once spent half an hour straight wondering why the boy had signed refrigerator geese to him during that dodgeball game.
Saiko had once walked up to him and declared that whatever “nonsense” Kusuo was going to sign, he’d know right away what they would mean. At first, Kusuo found it hard to believe that the rich boy had taken time to learn ASL within his one day of being in this school, but as it turned out, all Saiko did was hire a translator to follow him around to translate Kusuo’s words.
That was possibly the most amount of effort he’d ever seen from Saiko, and it was good enough.
Kusuo wondered if learning ASL had magically made him more attractive. Aiura would not leave him alone, with her blonde hair, tanned skin, overly accessorized things, and bubbly personality. She wasn’t like Teruhashi, who attracted more men than Kusuo could count on his fingers, so she wasn’t as annoying to be around with.
But then again, she was more forward than Teruhashi too, so it didn’t make her more appealing either.
Seeing Akechi again resurfaced too many feelings. He hadn’t really realized how much he missed his first friend, but then again, the same boy was probably very aware of Kusuo’s high intelligence and may accidentally reveal his secret with that blabbering mouth of his.
Though, Kusuo had to admit, Akechi hadn’t changed one bit since the last time he saw him. Besides the haircut of course, and some other details, like how good he was at deducting now.
Being around Akechi was always strangely comforting back then, there was just something about listening to him talk that made Kusuo feel comfortable. You could say his talking was like white noise to Kusuo.
“Why does everyone assume you’re deaf? You’re not deaf, you just don’t like talking a lot, right? Why don’t you tell them that? Is it because you find it easier to pretend to be deaf? I can understand that, you were always really quiet, which was nice because you were a great listener too. I never found out why you up and left our elementary school without saying goodbye, but you were crazy sma--” Okay, that was when Kusuo made him stop talking, and Akechi took this as a hint to keep it a secret. There was a pause before Kusuo finally signed something to him.
Sorry.
“Nothing to apologize! I don’t think it was your fault anyways, but your plan worked like a charm honestly,” Akechi smiled. “I hope you missed me, because I know I missed you. We have a lot of catching up to do, I’ll start! So basically…”
Kusuo did. He really did miss him.
A play. Their class was doing a play.
After all that effort of trying to stay off the stage, he still couldn’t avoid it.
He’d feel bad if he didn’t show up to contribute, so he definitely couldn’t just ditch them. The most he could do was play a background role, but even then he’d still be painfully aware that he would be in front of the whole school, and he just couldn’t handle that.
But seeing everyone giving their all to make this play work, Kusuo couldn’t help but join along, regardless of his own condition.
Practice for the play went smoothly, and he found himself being able to cope with it. All he did was sway around like seaweed, since that was his role, and then walk off when his scene ends. Easy, nothing too complicated, he would be fine.
Until Saiko got his sensitive feelings hurt and decided to pull their budget on literally everything, including the costumes. Now, Kusuo couldn’t care less about that issue if it weren’t for the fact that; if the other cast didn’t have their costumes, they wouldn’t stand out as much, and there’d be a higher chance of the audience staring at him.
Yet there wasn’t much time to do last minute preparations for props and clothing, so everyone was encouraged to try their best in making their own costumes before the deadline. Kusuo predicted that no one would actually follow through, and for once, he wished he was wrong.
Apparently he didn’t wish hard enough, because that was exactly what had happened during the play. Everyone mostly came in their gym clothes, some with small props to make it look like they’ve tried, and some who just didn’t do anything at all.
When Kusuo’s scene finally came up, he and the rest of the people who played as seaweed scrambled onto stage, making waving motions with their arms to simulate seaweed underwater. Things went well for the most part, Kusuo did as practiced and waved around just like his other seaweed playing classmates, but the longer he stayed, the more aware he became.
Eyes, everywhere, in front of him, staring too hard, too long. Their mouths are moving, but he can’t hear what they’re saying, it was like they were on the other end of a glass wall. Were they talking about him among themselves?
Had it always been this warm on stage? Was it normal for his hands to shake? Was he breathing? He didn’t remember exhaling, nor inhaling. His throat went dry, his whole body rigid from...fear?
Someone was pushing him, someone else was pulling him, but he can’t properly grasp what was happening.
The world went a bit blurry before he completely went dark.
Kusuo woke up in the nurse’s office, body aching and throat dry. He wondered how long it took for him to wake up, but depending on the sun outside, it may have been an hour or so. He sat up slowly, groaning slightly from the pain, before suddenly being attacked by a hug from a familiar person.
“Pal! You’re okay,” Nendou cheered, finally pulling away from the hug to double check on his friend. He lifted his hands, proceeding to sign to him, You just suddenly fell over after they pulled you off stage.
My bad, Kusuo signed back tiredly. Sorry.
“What’d he say?” Kaidou nudged Nendou. Did he really have to ask? It was quite obvious.
“He says he’s fine.” Nendou answered, completely leaving out Kusuo’s apology, which he found strangely comforting yet offensive.
“He literally had a panic attack on stage, what do you mean he’s fine?” Kaidou argued, then he looked over at Kusuo with a deeper frown. “Why didn’t you tell us you were having an attack?”
“He wasn't being attacked,” Nendou said blankly.
“A panic attack, it’s different,” Kaidou huffed. “Saiki, not to be intrusive, but do you have anxiety?”
Did...he? He honestly never thought about it properly. Sure, he did have anxiety attacks every now and then when he was a kid, but this was the first one he had after a long time, so he never really considered he might’ve had anxiety.
Actually, it was starting to all make sense to him now that he thought about it.
“I’m going to take that as a yes but you didn’t know,” Kaidou said slowly, concern laced in his tone. It made sense that Kaidou would know, it did seem like he used to have the same issue.
“Oh for sure, can’t you tell from the way his eyes had widened just now by half a centimetre?” Akechi piped up from behind.
Good freaking grief.
He knew his mother didn’t trust doctors, but Kusuo really needed to see one after literally fainting in school. Not only that, it wasn’t his first time having an attack either, this was just the first time it had gotten this bad.
Sitting in a psychiatrist's waiting room felt odd, because it seemed a lot more homey than a regular doctor’s waiting room, with paintings hung on the walls and carpeted floor. He wasn’t particularly nervous, but he knew his mother was, because the hand she was using to hold onto him was shaking.
It’ll be okay, he reassured, squeezing his mother’s hand tight.
And it was okay. The lady was really nice to him, gentle and understanding, she barely pried and most of the questions she asked were pretty normal. She was a little surprised to learn that Kusuo could speak, but not in a way that was obvious, only Kusuo could tell that she was.
Communication with her was sorta slow. He had to type onto his notes app on his phone for her to read to answer her questions instead of hand signing, which he didn’t really mind all that much.
His mother, who had been waiting outside for them to be done, immediately got up when Kusuo was finished and asked several questions, one being: Did he need to take medication now?
Fortunately enough, it seemed like his case wasn’t too severe yet, mostly because he could still handle being around people without an issue, so he didn’t need to take any meds for now. Although his selective mutism was pretty serious, it wasn’t too bad either in his case, due to the fact that Kusuo spoke through sign language rather than verbally, so he wasn’t completely mute per se.
He came back next week, and the next, and many more weeks after that. He really liked this therapy thing.
“So your friends think you’re deaf, so you’re using that as an excuse to ignore them sometimes?”
Oh, when she put it like that, it just made him sound like an asshole. But yeah, he pretty much was doing that.
“Is there a particular reason why?”
Kusuo drummed his fingers on his lap. There were many reasons why, but those reasons had long lost their meaning. At first, it was because he didn’t want any friends, but now that he did have friends, there wasn’t any reason for him to keep following them through. No matter how many times he told himself he didn’t like them, they were still his friends.
“And why do you not want any friends?”
“Making friends was hard, keeping friends was hard, and losing them was even harder.” Kusuo typed out. “I guess I stopped trying. But then they started coming to me, and it was weird because I had already accepted it.”
“So you got scared?”
She could say that.
She uncrossed her legs, only to cross them back moments later, and adjusted her glasses, leaning forward, “It’s okay to feel scared about losing your friends, but if you’re going to push everyone who wants to be with you away, then how are you going to know if they’ll truly leave you? There’s nothing wrong with wanting space, but people do need other people to survive.”
One of the many things he did like about his friends was the fact that they all knew he enjoyed sweets. It was pretty obvious that he did, with the way his face would smile softly and soften at the taste of coffee jelly.
Surprisingly, they never notice that he’d much rather be left alone. Either that, or they don’t care.
It was a small outing event, they were mainly just eating and talking, but also trying their best to include Kusuo as much as possible, even though he didn’t mind being left alone with his coffee jelly and cakes.
“Man, I feel bad not including Saiki in conversations sometimes,” Kaidou mumbled, assuming Kusuo didn’t know what he had just said because he wasn’t reading Kaidou’s lips. “Since it’s hard to talk to him sometimes.”
“I’m sure we’re trying our best,” Teruhashi beamed, making Kaidou flush red.
“We should probably just learn sign language like Nendou did.” Kaidou hummed, rolling a fork between his thumb and finger. “It’d be a lot easier.” Though possibly soul crushing for him, considering Kaidou had cram school and such already on his schedule.
“Sounds fun,” Kuboyasu commented. “I’d be down. Maybe we can surprise him.” Oh that was just too much, too nice, Kusuo didn’t even know what he did to earn this much love.
Nendou snorted, grinning widely as he pumped his fist on his chest, “I can teach you all!”
“That would save a lot of money.”
Kusuo stopped eating, a rare sight to see despite him being undisturbed, and he placed his spoon down. Everyone stopped talking, looking over at him in confusion before he finally opened his mouth, surprising them even more.
“I can hear you,” Kusuo managed out. “I always could.”
Teruhashi was the first to react, eyes widening and her face turning bright red. All those comments she muttered, he had heard them all.
Nendou blinked, smiling widely with his arms spread wide, “Congratulations on learning how to hear, pal!” Not quite there, but appreciated.
“Uh, uhm, OF COURSE! I knew the whole time,” Kaidou flashed a charming grin, which would’ve worked if it weren’t for the awkward pose he was doing.
Kuboyasu only stared, and drank his tea, “Oh. Well.”
“Sorry.” Then Kusuo paused, and raised his hands to sign. Felt more comfortable being like this, but you all are too nice to me. So the least I could do was tell you the truth. I don’t talk because I have selective mutism.
Nendou translated for them, and they all softened hearing this. Kusuo pressed his back against the booth seat and fiddled with his spoon before taking another bite. That felt easy, and weight lifting. Now that they know, he didn’t have to feel so bad about them going out of their way to do things for him just because they thought he was deaf.
“Of course I knew from the beginning,” Akechi boasted slightly, eyeing Aiura and Toritsuka with a smug grin. Aiura rolled her eyes at him, but pointed at Kusuo with a narrowed look.
“So you, like, could hear us the whole time,” she confirmed with him again. “I always thought you were just stupid smart, or something, at figuring things out despite not being able to hear, y’know?” Well, she wasn’t wrong about the smart part.
“That is so annoying!” Toritsuka blurted. “You’re annoying! Jeez! Would’ve been so much easier! Did you not tell us because you want an excuse to ignore us?” Kusuo recounted the number of times he avoided Toritsuka running towards him from behind, pretending he couldn’t hear him.
He proceeded to shake his head, very very slowly.
“He’s lying, by the way,” Akechi whispered. Kusuo clicked his tongue at that, earning himself a cheeky grin from Akechi.
Well that was that, now they all knew Kusuo wasn’t some deaf kid, even though that info might’ve spread throughout the school, which he really couldn’t care less about.
It was really nice, though, having friends he could trust.

Headcanons for if Kaidou’s sister got a crush on Saiki
Fic time here we go babeyy. Starring the lovely Kaidou Sora.
Tumblr media
It was a rough and cold day. One with winds that whipped you back and forth with no mercy. It was the kind of day that would gain your trust by having the sun tickle your skin, and then destroy the fragile warmth with a booming and freezing breeze. Sora wished she had stayed inside instead of going to the store to buy eggs for her mother. She cursed under her breath as another dreaded wind came and tangled her hair.
"Shun...? Shun!" She spotted her older brother loitering outside of another grocery store.
"...Sora?" He jumped, turning to face the smaller female "Oh, hey. Heading home?" She nodded.
"Well, I have Saiki with me. I can drive you home though" he turns to the pink haired boy who was still eyeing a rack of coffee jelly from outside of the store window.
"Drive? You can't drive. This isn't America, dumbass. You're not old enough to get a license and you don't even have any type of vehicle with.... you..." she slowed her words upon seeing him walk up and start a motorcycle with some unappealing (not to mention, chuuni) decorations; only shun would decorate something to look that stupid.
"I forgot you had one.." she awed. Though, the last thing she needed was more wind slapping her face "But no thanks. I'll walk. You don't even have an extra helmet."
Saiki turned to the bike he had been pure pressured into bringing. 'Yare yare' he mumbled as he sat down too fast, causing his head to ache. This place was crowded, so it made sense that his head would hurt naturally- or, that's what he thought until he saw Shun's sister getting kidnapped. Good grief. No way to sit still after seeing that.
'Hey' saiki called out to her, placing a helmet on her head. 'You can ride on the back of mine. It's going to be dark soon and then it'll get even colder.' He said, walking back to his motorcycle.
"Alright, fine" she got onto the seat behind him. Shun smiled at Saiki before starting his bike down the road, and the psychic then followed.
The wind came strong and angry. Sharp and bitter. It threatened to kick her off of the bike and caused her to have to wrap her arms tighter around the boy infront of her. He didn't care much for the wind. Nothing special, no reason for his heart to race because with his powers, his instincts don't sense danger. It wasn't much painfully cold, either. With his pyrotechnics it wasn't a problem at all.
Maybe I should tell him to stop... this is too cold Sora thought to herself
Saiki sighed as he used his fire power very carefully to bring heat to her body as well. He can't have Shun coming to school crying about his sister everyday. Especially when it's so easy to avoid.
This feeling...
Oh no.
it's gotten so warm... next to Saiki.. no, it must be that I... I have a crush..?
Good grief... this is uncomfortable the psychic thought
.....
And in days to come, the Jet Black Wing's sister would come to bother him about his friends. After that, her crush began to develop in a similar way to Chiyo. She would watch him with eyes that saw a round eyed prince. She would admire how smart and well mannered he is, and she would act especially polite when he made his presence infront of her.
Saiki Kusuo, was also thinking about her often. However; not in the way you might be thinking. He was forming strategies on how to avoid her. All of which were miserably failing. With her mother and his mother on her side, she couldn't fail. Discovering his family power structure, she would have Shun call Kurumi (his mother) and invite him over.
And with her own mother bothering Shun to hang out with his two "genius" friends everytime his grades would slip. Of course, Nendou rarely came because he was "always busy" (in reality, Shun didn't want Nendou and his mother interacting anymore in fear of her finding out that he's an idiot)
So, of course, this all worked out best for Sora.
.....
The group of four walked home like usual. Kuboyasu, Nendou, Saiki and Kaidou. They were discussing which character in Shounen Jump is the weakest while Saiki was praying for Nendou to ask them to ramen so that he didn't have to go to Kaidou's house again. Sora had been coming up with gifts for her crush so that he would take notice and start a conversation with her. Of course, she had almost no idea what would peak the boy's interest.
"Hey, Saiki. I thought maybe it would be a good time to ask you" Kuboyasu, the former delinquent spoke up. "Heard there's somethin' weird behind that 100 yen store. Wanna come check it out?" He offered.
Saiki almost shook his head and provided an excuse on instinct before remembering his main goal (to bLow up and act I like dont know nobody aghaghaghaa.) So he simply nodded.
"I wish I could come see!" Kaidou beamed before looking back down to the ground dramatically "yes... I wish I still had time to question those weird things around me... to leisure in activities like such. Though, I have a sacred duty at hand..." he clenched his bandaged fist
"Gotta take a shit? Me too" Nendou chimed in.
"NO, IDIOT! I have cram sch-- I um.. I m..mean I have to meet with the phantom force! Th-that I'm helping train to work as soldiers against dark reunion!!" He stumbled all over his sentence before finally turning his body to strut off over to the direction of his house.
"Shun. I need you to help me with.. homework" his sister quickly requested and dragged him into her room, pushing him on the floor infront of the small table that sat in the middle of the room, just like his.
"What can you tell me about your friends? Start with Saiki kun" she reached for a notepad and a pen.
"Shouldn't you be referring to him as senpai or something because he's a second year?" He mentioned before being cut with her glare. "R..Right! Okay, sorry... he likes sweets an-"
"Sweets and what!? Why'd you stop??" Sora pressed
"Why do you need to know about my friends? Is this a homework assignment..?" He questioned her
"Yeah sure." She rushed "he likes sweets and what?"
"Ohh! I think I remember having this assignment in middle school, too! You're supposed to write about your closest friends and their interests right~?" He thought back to his middle school year and looked at her with warm eyes. Empathy began filling his soft face, adjusting his features on her. "Sora, I couldn't make any friends in middle school either, so...!" He began "I've noticed you've been really nice to Saiki.. so if you want to be friends with my friends-!"
"I can make friends. I'm not some lonely loser like you who needs a hero complex to interact with people his age." She interrupted, sending an imaginary arrow through the highschooler's chest.
"Guh-- well if you don't want my help then in leaving!!" He stood up and caught notice of a small hand stopping him
"Wait! I'm sorry.." She got onto her feet and bowed "I'm just... embarrassed about not having friends." She lied, not wanting her brother to know she had the hots for his bestfriend.
Her phone chimed, once, and then again. It was three of her friends trying to reach her to hang out at the movies. Then she got a phone call, interrupted by another phone call.
"You should answer those" shun said
She hesitantly picked up the phone and answered the call.
"Put it on speaker" her brother ordered.
"...okay.."
<"heyyyy! Sora where have you been? Me and everyone else wanted to go to the movies with you. You're always knee-deep in studying so we wanted to help you relax a bit for once. You've been out of school for like, three days just shadowing and checking out Pk academy. It's still a while before we get into high school, grandma~! Anyway, the 7 of us wanted to show we love you by taking you to see that movie you mentioned wanting to see. So get ready, we want to be there by 7:30"> the girl on the phone ranted on before Sora could speak up against it, and hung up.
".....Shun-"
"SEVEN!?" he exclaimed as Sora rushed into another apology. This must be the first time he's ever made HER scared of HIM.
"Don't apologize Sora!! That's amazing, I'm so happy you have great friends... ahyuuu...." he teared up
"Oh... thanks, I guess"
"But one thing" he said and stopped her from leaving the room
"Huh?"
"Why did you need to know about my friends for that project?" He tilted his head
She looked over to the door knob as if she was begging it for help as her face was overpowered by a dark red hue. "W....we-well-- Sh...shut up! Get out! I need to get dressed!!" She pushed him out.
"Ow!! Ouch~! I'll leave!!" He practically screeched as he was rushed out. "But I'll stand outside of the door until you admit!"
A few minutes later, she yanked open the door and sprinted down the hallway. She knew her small brother wouldn't be able to catch her with how weak and slow he is.
But her little brother could.
She tripped and landed on her face after having her legs caught and wrapped in bandages by Toki Kaidou.
"Now tell me why!" Shun stood proudly over her despite not having done anything.
Toki went back to his room as Sora nearly freed her feat from the poorly tied bandages, that is before Shun, someone who actually knew how to tie a knot, fixed them.
"Fine!! Just let me go!" She yelled at him "I... is there any reason for it? I think he's cool. You can always have new friends. You're just stupid and think that 7 is the max" her face was once again drenched in a dark pink color.
"Oh my god." He said
"What!?"
"You like him!!!" His eyes widened as he stood up frantically. "You have a crush on Saiki!!"
"Yeah, so what about it!?" Sora snapped at him
Shun gasped "Sora!! You're only in middle school-"
"Yet I'm more put together than you are" she said defensively
"But that's still kind of wrong.. we're about to be third years and you're not even in highschool yet..."
"I will be by the time you're third years though!!" She shouted, then slumped down.
"Yes- bu-" he began, getting cut off
"I know. I just... I really like him and I've never liked a guy before. I know it's stupid." She sighed, defeated
"No no, Sora I'm sorry... You can't control who you like, right? I was being mean-" he began
"It's fine, you're right about it being weird. Just untie me so I can go to my room"
"What about the movies with your friends?"
"...whatever"
....
'Yare yare,' Saiki sighed, taking another bite from one of the homemade cookies Sora had anonymously sent him before placing it down and uncrossing his eyes. (he had checked with his powers and knows the cookies were from her)
'I guess it can't be helped' he sighed once more before sending out a telepathic signal
"Sora!" She sang as she knocked on the large door infront of her.
"Hello?" Shun answered and opened the door wider for the girl to come in "you're one od her friends!" He chirped "She said she isn't feeling well enough for the movies; I think you should try cheering her up."
"Oh, okay... um, where would her room be?" Upon entering the house, the girl suddenly grew nervous. For some reason.
"Here, I'll show you" Shun lead her to Sora's door and sprinted away to hide before the girl could knock on it.
"What do you want." Sora snapped after hearing the door knock
"Eek! Sorry, I just.. uhm...wa it's Yui! your b..brother let me in" she stuttered unlike how she spoke on the phone
The door opened and inside was a girl with messy hair and red eyes. An embrace came soon after.
I thought you might've needed a hug... Yui intended to say, but instead voiced out:
"You... h.,,hug. Yeah. Needed yes...mn"
Sora laughed, at first came a weak chuckle, then as the hug parted it became a strong belly laugh (upon seeing Yui's flustered face)
.....
"Shun!" Sora called, making the timid boy jump and start shaking from fear
"Y-yes?" He was sweating bullets
"I'm going to the movies with my girlfriend." She took Yui's clammy hand and headed towards the door.
Shun blinked. "Wh--"

I hope you have a good day! Do you have any anime recommendations?
i hope you have a good day too, anon!!!!! :D i'm not the best at writing summaries, but i did it anyway! there’s probably better stuffsomewhere else but i always like an excuse to talk about my interests hehe
under the cut!! ^^
Mob Psycho 100***
Tumblr media
[shounen, slice of life, supernatural, comedy]
This story follows the life of Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama and how he grows and changes as a person. Mob is an awkward kid, that’s for sure. He’s unable to read the atmosphere and get his point across, and quite average when it comes to everything else. But ever since he was young, he's had incredible psychic powers. But despite all of his power, it can’t exactly grant him the thing that he wants the most: to be able to connect with people.
This show is probably my favorite of all time, honestly! If you haven’t watched it already, please do!! It’s got a wonderfully charming cast, a heartfelt message, and amazing animation. It subverts the shounen genre/its tropes and what you’d expect from it (ex: Reigen practically being the complete opposite of the Wise Mentor trope), and it’s really nice to see how Mob’s character develops.
This summary didn’t do it justice orz. But trust me! It’s amazing; please watch it if you can!
(oh, and! for s2e5! tw for bullying + violence! there might be something else but i’m not sure ;;)
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.***
Tumblr media
[comedy, supernatural, slice of life]
Saiki Kusuo has psychic powers, but quite frankly, kind of hates them. He just wants to live a completely ordinary, normal life. His family and friends classmates, however, keep getting him caught up in stupid shenanigans. What a pain.
This show is pretty much tied with MP100 when it comes to absolute favorites. It’s honestly got the best comedy!! Saiki’s slightly tsundere nature towards his friends and his love for coffee jelly is always so fun to watch. It never fails to get a laugh out of me, even if it’s a scene I’ve watched a million times, and I can’t recommend it enough.
(also, it’s a rare case in which i actually like the dub better than the sub!)
Kaguya-sama: Love is War
Tumblr media
[romance, comedy, mind games (but like, not seriously)]
Shirogane Miyuki and Shinomiya Kaguya are their school’s best students; they’re the student council president and vice president respectively. Everyone thinks they’re the perfect couple, and despite both of them liking each other, they’re too proud to actually confess. And so, they play ridiculous mind games to try and get the other to admit their feelings. The one who confesses first loses, after all.
Kaguya-sama is extremely fun to watch, like holy shit. The silly mind games Shirogane and Shinomiya get themselves into are always hilarious to see. There are, however, really heartwarming and cute moments between the two that capture how nerve wracking a crush really is, and really, it’s all great!
(and read the manga when you’re done!!!! do it, do it, d)
Noragami
Tumblr media
[action, supernatural, comedy, adventure]
Hiyori Iki gets into a bus accident after trying to save a stranger. She survives, but the accident ends up with her soul getting loose, and with her being able to leave her body. Thanks to that, she meets the stranger who she saved, who turns out to be a shrineless god named Yato who does jobs/grants wishes for 5 yen each. He accepts Hiyori’s wish to fully get back into her body, but, well, it’s...gonna take a while.
Yato, Hiyori, and Yukine (Yato’s weapon, made from a dead human’s soul) kind of become friends and end up learning a lot of wild stuff, and it’s something, alright.
THERE’S...a bit more than that, but it’s kind of hard to summarize this show in a few sentences, and I Am Tired. OTL. Nonetheless, this show’s really fun to watch! The characters are pretty lovable, and some parts are just...really funny. Things end up getting pretty intense and dramatic, though, and I have fond memories of staying up to watch another episode to see what the hell was gonna happen next. Super fun and a wild ride; it’s great!
(shout out to my friends who yelled at me to watch it so i could break the tie on whether yukine or yato was better lol
ALSO THE OPENINGS SLAP SO HARD....if you’re not gonna watch the show then at least listen to them bc oh my goddd they’re so GOOD)
and some others that i couldn’t include:
death parade, durarara!! (god i couldnt even TRY to come up with a summary for these two), haikyuu!!, march comes in like a lion
THANKS FOR ASKING ILY and goodnight! i really could have just written this tomorrow but shhhh that’s ok i have no impulse control

January Media Madness
It’s a new year, and yes I’m still keeping track of the stuff I watch and/or read. I really just like being able to keep track of everything that came out during the year, and I like to shout my thoughts into the void. And maybe someone will find something they like.
Movies!
The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals: Okay, not a movie, but it’s the latest musical from Starkid so I had to include it somewhere. And this time it’s a horror alien/zombie take over that causes everyone to act like they’re in a musical, and humanity’s only hope is an average guy who happens to not like musicals. That may not sound bad, BUT THINK OF THE IMPLICATIONS! The plot could sort of meander at times, but it’s hilarious and also pretty dark for Starkid. If nothing else, watch it because Lauren Lopez is a goddess. 9/10
Tumblr media
Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Everyone’s favorite silly King Arthur searching for the holy grail story. I hadn’t watched this movie since I was a kid, and there was so much stuff I forgot about! And yeah it’s still pretty great. I do feel like it drags in the middle a little, but I still always enjoy the tomfoolery! 9/10
Three Identical Strangers: A documentary about a set of identical triplets who were separated at birth and the sinister intentions of the adoption agency who separated them. On top of being an interesting story, it is super thought provoking bringing up questions of scientific morality, nature vs nurture, and mental health...which does make it a little depressing. I love the way it sets up the mystery of the story, but it also makes you feel terrible for trying to plot out and guess the story of these actual human beings’ lives. So I’d recommend it to anyone who is interested in crazy stories and scientific corruption! 9/10
Venom: A classic tale of a boy and his symbiote. In which the weirdest investigative reporter in the world is possessed by an alien parasite while trying to stop a corrupt corporation from constantly murdering people. Guys, I originally never planned to see this movie. I never cared about Venom. I was never big into the Spiderman universe, but then this movie came out and everyone was saying how weird it was...and how Eddie and Venom are like a thing...so curiosity got the better of me. And I’m kind of underwhelmed. I think I would have liked it more if I never had any expectations going into it, because it really wasn’t as weird as I thought it would be. The first 30 minutes were a slog, the dialogue was clunky, the plot was very predictable and basic, and I feel like Eddie and Venom didn’t have enough interaction. But it had its moments, I get why some people love it, and I did like what I saw of the symbiote relationship, so all in all it was just..okay. Oh well. 6.5/10
Mama Mia Here We Go Again: The just as ridiculous sequel to Mama Mia, featuring more dumb plots that don’t fit together, more dumb writing, and more over the top performances. Just like the first one, it’s a silly excuse to put some ABBA songs in a movie and make you have fun, and it accomplishes that in spades. Because if you’re watching a Mama Mia movie for the “plot” or anything other than the musical numbers and silliness, you’re making a huge mistake. It is a little clunkier trying to weave two timelines together, but who cares because they’re singing Dancing Queen! As an actual movie, we all know it’s barely passable as a 6/10 but just for getting drunk with your friends and having fun it’s a 9/10
Tumblr media
Books!
The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis: The fifth/third book in the Chronicles of Narnia in which a boy and a talking horse run away from the land of Calormen to get to Narnia...and find out about a plot to take over Narnia along the way. I know some people think this is the most interesting book in the series plot wise, and technically there is more plot...but it’s boring as hell. I really think Lewis’s normal interjections would have made it more entertaining, but he doesn’t use his author’s voice at all! Not only is it written in an incredibly circular and drawn out way (some people literally tell stories like they’re writing the bible), but it’s also SUPER RACIST and kind of sexist too. I was so excited because when the book first started I thought we were getting a canonical protagonist of color...and then he turns out to be a kidnapped white boy surrounded by “savages.” Yes we have Aravis...but I really don’t know how to feel about her. Also Bree the horse is really just an asshole, so it’s hard to like any of the characters. I did appreciate having adult Edmund and Susan around though, so it’s not a total waste. The truth is, this is the book that I could barely get through as a kid and would constantly fall asleep reading so I barely remembered anything besides the fact that I didn’t like it. 3/10
Skyward by Brandon Sanderson: In a distant future, humans are trapped on a wasteland planet where their only hope for survival are teenagers flying spaceships while fighting a mysterious alien race. Aka: local girl is constantly dumped on by society and makes friends with a talking spaceship. Okay this book definitely has its problems, but I mostly don’t care because 1. The world building is great. 2. Spensa is a fun main character. 3. All the side characters have distinguishable personalities and interactions *cough* m-bot *cough*. And 4. The plot could be predictable at times but I really liked following the mystery of it all...even if there’s some weird chosen one type of bullshit going on towards the end. It has a major season one Attack on Titan vibe with all the questions about humanity’s history and mankind uniting to fight a mysterious enemy. This is a super fun read that kept me theorizing and was also incredibly motivational. Did I like all of Sanderson’s decisions when it came to which characters died? Hell no. Do I think the government would have a lot more backlash considering its dumbass way of fighting wars? Yes. But I’d still recommend it, and I’m still looking forward to the next book! 8/10
TV Shows!
Aggretsuko: The most adorable musical comedy anime of 2018, where Retsuko, a 25 year old office worker is getting fed up with her job and copes with life by singing aggressive death metal songs...and by the way everyone’s a cute animal. I’m a little late to this party, but this show is so precious and also disturbingly accurate to real life. Retsuko is so relatable, Haida’s crush on her is well executed and not forced, there’s great working women solidarity (Gori and Washimi are the fucking queens of anime side characters) and the metal is so well integrated! Please watch this charming show and the Christmas special if you haven’t already! I NEED ANOTHER SEASON NOW! 10/10
A Series of Unfortunate Events (season 3): The final season of the Baudelaires’ tale of misery and woe. And man did they stick the landing. “But it doesn’t leave things vague enough, they didn’t leave the sugar bowl a mystery.” GOOD! I’ve had to deal with Snicket’s badly written ending to the books since 2006. I love that they explained as much as they did. The ending was bittersweet and more concrete while still delivering the message of how the world is morally gray. Also Quigley was amazing, Sunny was amazing, FERNALD WAS AMAZING! KIT WAS AMAZING! EVERYONE WAS AMAZING! And I almost cried seeing the kids in their outfits from the book covers. I wish Jacqueline was in it, but I think her character would have felt redundant with Kit in the mix. This was an amazing adaption all around, and this season did a great job at putting some of the more...difficult books on screen without it feeling out of place. Even if you haven’t read the books, I encourage anyone who likes mysteries and different forms of storytelling to suffer with the rest of us! 10/10
Tumblr media
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K (season 1): Local overpowered psychic anime boy just wants to be ignored and blend in with society, but the universe constantly surrounds him with silly situations that cause him to use his powers. I finally got around to watching this show, and it’s hilarious. Kusuo is a great deadpan main character who is definitely ace as hell, and the English dub is actually pretty good! I don’t really want to watch the show in Japanese now because I feel like the dub does a better job at timing the comedic lines and distinguishing everyone’s thoughts. So now I’m upset that the second season hasn’t been dubbed (thanks Netflix). But yeah it’s a great silly show to binge watch. 10/10
Community: The misadventures of a wacky study group going to the world’s worst community college. You know, the one with all the memes? Okay, I know I’m the last one to watch this and  technically I still have a season and a half left at this point, but I thought I’d include it anyway. This show is such a wild ride that I don’t even know what to think about it anymore. The first two seasons were pretty average with a few absolutely brilliant episodes thrown in. And then...the paintball episodes happened, and the show just became amazing. I do have a lot of questions though....like if the main character is a lawyer (sort of), why does he never sue the dean for sexual harassment? Why does Pierce, the resident old, sexist, racist, problematic baby boomer have an “arc” centered around a logical fallacy. No one wants to hang out with him because he’s terrible, but he’s upset because he feels left out and constantly does terrible things to get back at them? I literally almost dropped the show because I couldn’t take him anymore, and then the writers just magically dial him back in his last seasons...which I’m thankful for. And I don’t even know where to being with Chang. BUT this show is a testament to creative writing and innovative meta ways to tell stories. The rest of the study group is made up of hilarious well balanced characters that all have their distinct broken but quirky personalities. And I love them all...except Pierce. So, even though I haven’t finished it, I’d give it an 8.5/10 so far.
Tumblr media
Superstore: A sitcom about the daily struggles of workers in a W*lmart-esque superstore. I finally caught up to it, and it’s still fine. It’s not great, but not terrible either. It is incredibly accurate though, coming from someone who works retail. The best parts of the show are the scene transitions because they show all the things customers are doing in the store. And most of the time I just nod and go “yeah I’ve seen that.” This is one of those shows to have on for the sake of just having something on. It has its moments. 7/10
Honorable Mentions
Because these are the reasons why I didn’t really read much this month...or watch many movies.
YOUNG JUSTICE is officially back with the long awaited season 3. And it’s still pretty great, but man I wish I had rewatched the original series.
Netflix released the Taylor Swift Reputation stadium performance. So now you all know how much of a slut for Taylor Swift I am. I can’t help it if her latest album is basically Captive Prince the musical!
The Masked Singer (US version) is dragging me into a spiral of conspiracy theories. Please watch this ridiculous reality show where celebrities wear elaborate costumes and a super annoying judging panel tries to guess who they are. I’m in hell, because this show is set up terribly, but I also don’t want to leave.
Life is Strange 2: episode 2 was finally released. And I’m actually loving it. These games have a special place in my heart for some reason.
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe came out and I hate myself for buying these stupid games because they consume all my time, and I don’t even really like them.

erratic heartbeats ~chapter 3: arts project? more like stress wreaked~
⚠Minor Swearing⚠
Legend: "English unless stated otherwise" --- 'Thoughts' --- "Telepathically speaking" --- [Authors' Note]
==========
The moment Azumi's subject teacher dismissed her students, greeting everyone a pleasant lunch, the girl was already out and about the room. It was odd behavior considering Azumi is usually someone who takes her time, but she wished to spend her lunch alone for once since the start of the school year.
Kaidou, Saiki and Nendou were pleasant company for Azumi, however she never feels like she is giving in the same amount of effort as her group does when it comes to their friendship. And it has been on her mind since the three became her friends. She appreciates them and the things they do for her, but there is always the lingering feeling of guilt, as if she is intruding in their friend group.
Azumi walked through the side of the school's courtyard, stopping under a tree to watch a game of dodgeball. She was intrigued at the sport, having only been taught and learned to play games that required at least 1 or 2 people to play. Her eyes followed the red rubber ball as it traveled to and from the opposite sides of the court, hitting a number of players while being thrown across.
Despite concentrating almost fully on the game of dodgeball, Azumi reacted reflexively when the ball from the volleyball court close to where she stood deviated from their target. She blinked in surprise, shifting her gaze from the ball in her hands to the equally surprised volleyball players. A few had their mouths ajar after shouting words variating from "Watch out!". A player approached Azumi, eyebrows knitted and eyes still wide, half from surprise and half from amazement.
"I'm so so sorry. On behalf of the team, we deeply apologize. You almost got hurt..." She gave a bow, showing her sincerity even though Azumi found the situation as not much of an issue. Some other volleyball players jogged over and repeated apologies of their own.
"It's fine. It's fine" Azumi unnecessarily repeated herself, shifting the ball from one hand to another before throwing the ball to the player standing near the net. She unconsciously used it as a fiddle. "I didn't get hurt and I think that's what matters"
"And thank goodness for that" The same player who first approached her heaved a sigh of relief, before meeting Azumi's gaze, eyes shining in admiration at the girl. "Anyway, you've got amazing reflexes! Do you play volleyball? I think I speak for everyone when I say I would love to see you play"
"I... I don't... I don't play volleyball," Azumi stuttered, entangling her fingers together and shaking her head–no. She tried to resist the urge to rock on her heels. "but... I've always wanted to try it."
"That's perfect! With your capabilities, you'll surely be one of the best players here after a few weeks" The other players got sick of waiting for their friends, they walked over to hear what they were conversing. "You should come sometime after school, I'll gladly teach you the ropes" The captain, Azumi assumes with the thoughts of the volleyball players, offered, a bright smile adorning her face.
Azumi blinked in slight surprise, half-expecting the captain to openly invite her, a stranger. She slowly raised the corners of her lips, showcasing a small smile. "That sounds nice"
A beat of silence, then within a flip of a switch, the other players started shouting invites of their own. Their voices mixed horribly with each other, leaving no word understandable. Azumi is left shocked at the sudden outburst, her mind lagging a few seconds.
'Oh dear...'

'What am I being so nervous about? She's just another classmate'  Teruhashi walked through the halls. Consecutive "Oh"s fill the hallways and blushes adorn the faces of the boys she pass. She convinces herself with her thoughts, 'That's right! She's just new here. No one is more perfect than me. Just ask these students here gawking at me.'
The farther she walks from her classroom the more her thoughts become unheard. Her internal dialogues become muffled because of the commotion going about outside the building. She resisted the urge to click her tongue, her smile twitching and threatening to drop. Teruhashi looked through the window to find the source of the racket that disrupted her thoughts. A class was having their PE, some students who formerly were playing volleyball huddled under a tree in the school courtyard. Teruhashi's semi-permanent smile dropped at the sight of Azumi in the middle, distress flashing through the introvert’s expressions for a split second. Something in Teruhashi clicked, and she leaned on the nearest open window. "Kanasawa-san! Let's have lunch together!" She didn't know what had gotten into her, but she convinced herself that she was helping Azumi out by getting her out of her situation. 'Yes, that's right. I'm just so kind, aren't I?'
Azumi, together with the rest of the students in the quad, whipped their heads at the exclaim of the school's proclaimed pretty girl. A chorus of "Oh"s resonated, successfully creating a distraction for Azumi to round the tree she was cornered in and enter one of the school's buildings. Teruhashi's mood internally deflated at the girl's reaction, closing the window and speed-walking to the cafeteria. 'She ignored me? Not even a polite smile? Nothing?! No one can possibly ignore me! Except maybe Saiki Kunio, but he just can't get over how I approached him first!'  The pretty girl realized how disheartened she was at what happened, slowing down her pace to a stop. 'Am I sad because she didn't want to have lunch with me? No, that's not it. Why would I? I'm just embarrassed because I was ignored.'
She shook her head, as if it would repel her thoughts from her head.
Teruhashi stood in front of the doors that lead to the cafeteria, contemplating if she should enter since she didn't have Azumi with her after openly inviting her a while ago. She turned and walked away, only to return a minute later. She swiftly caught her hand from pushing open the double doors and froze, deciding on her following actions. If she enters without the girl, people would assume she was stood up, 'Because, I mean, who would ditch me??'  But if she searches for Azumi, people would assume she was being avoided. Teruhashi needs to weigh her options well, because her reputation is on the line.
"... Hey, Teruhashi-san" An arm wrapped around Teruhashi's shoulders, causing her to flinch at the sudden contact. "Sorry to scare you. Shall we go?" Azumi gestured calmly at the cafeteria doors while her companion tried her best not to fuss out loud at their proximity. Despite holding up a collected expression, Azumi's façade was a far cry from her anxious thoughts that was wreaking chaos around her mind.
In truth, while Teruhashi was mulling over whether to enter the cafeteria or not, Azumi was pacing next to the vending machine located not that far from the double doors. She was equally conflicted as Teruhashi, her thoughts running miles as she constructed a plausible dialogue to say. She did rehearsals in her head, before nodding to herself. Her words a while ago was not what Azumi had prepared in her head, but it was good enough to not be roasted in her mind or become a potential face-palming moment in the future.
"A-Ah, Kanasawa-san, yes-yes let's go" Kokomi's voice shook as she tried to collect herself. Azumi noticed Teruhashi's not-so-discreet staring directed at her arm, so she dropped it from her shoulders. She understood her companion's uncomfortability, because Azumi knows it would be her reaction as well when a similar situation arises. She cleared her throat before giving Teruhashi an awkward smile, pushing open the cafeteria doors.

"Are you sure you're alright, Yumehara-san?"
Startled at the call of her name, Yumehara almost fell forward at the loss of support from her prompted palm. "Huh? Oh, yeah. Sorry about that, Kanasawa-san. Where were we?" She sat upright, grabbed her book and began flipping pages.
"You actually missed the page. It's page 10, and you're… already on 34… Say, what's bothering you, Yumehara-san?" Azumi laid her hand on Yumehara's, successfully halting it from flipping the book over. She knitted her brows as she stared at her absentminded companion. "I think I'm reliable enough to help you if... it's possible."
Yumehara stared back at Azumi, contemplating. The former looked down, before her mouth slowly inched up to form a smile. Yumehara let out a soft sigh. "Have you ever been in love, Kanasawa-san?" She reconnected her gaze with her partner.
Azumi's look of concern contorted into one of confusion. Her once knitted eyebrows were now loose and raised at an angle. "Love?... Do you have a crush?" Yumehara partially covered her face with her hands, a slight blush creeping in before she nodded in affirmation.
"He's so dreamy~ Oh, my prince, always looking so handsome," The girl swooned, letting out another soft sigh. "I just can't seem to stop thinking about him these days" Yumehara glanced past her partner and stared at the pink-haired psychic. He sat up straight, his constant blank face portrayed for everyone to see. However, in the eyes of the brunette, there were sparkles around him and his lips stretched up into a wide smile. Two distinct point of views.
Azumi followed her gaze and whispered more to herself than to her companion, "Saiki Kusuo?" Alarmed, Yumehara's hand flew and covered Azumi's mouth despite her saying his name in a hushed voice and their other classmates staying at a reasonable distance from where they were. The blush grew on Yumehara's face, embarrassed at the fact she had made it obvious.
"Please don't tell anybody, Kanasawa-san!"
Azumi stared at Yumehara for a moment, her mind lagging a few seconds, before she lowered the hand from her mouth. "Of course I won't, Yumehara-san. I'll keep your secret. I actually appreciate you telling me" She displayed a little smile for Yumehara to prove her sincerity. At a loss of words, Yumehara stuttered, slowly drawing back her hand. The brunette glanced away, shifting her gaze constantly and only looking at Azumi's eyes a few times.
"U-Uh… How about–How about you, Kanasawa-san? Do you have someone you like?"
"... mhm, no, not really. Love doesn't cross my mind very often" Azumi turned to her notebook, lifting her pencil and scribbling more details to the rough draft of their project. Curious, Chiyo watched as her partner draws. "... But now that I think about it, my crushes have mostly been comprised of 2D people."
Her words left Yumehara gaping in shock, but before she could let out a comment, the teacher ordered for the students to return to their original seating as she concludes the subject. Azumi gathered her things, standing up after she tucked her pencil in her notebook. "I'll contact you to discuss our project later tonight. Is that alright?"
"O-Oh, sure, yeah. S-See you around, Kanasawa-san." The latter gave a little wave before turning to walk back to her seat.
——————————
Classes went by quickly, and Azumi and Yumehara walk towards the shoe lockers side by side on the hallways. "Okay, so… I thought we could add a little curtain that could open and close. To, you know, add a little suspense before the audience can see the inside of our diorama." Yumehara gestured, shifting her gaze from the halls to her partner's eyes.
Azumi nodded, considering her suggestion. "You mean the curtains during plays?"
"Yes! That one! Can we do it?"
"I don't see why not"
"Yay! Okay, for materials... I know the owner of this store—" Chiyo was cut off when someone called their names. The two turned to see Teruhashi, beaming as she walks towards them. "Hiragi-sensei is looking for you two. He says it's about your Arts project for the semester." She explained as Azumi and Yumehara glanced at each other, both equally confused at the suddenty.
The three walked together to the teachers' office, engaging in mild conversation as they go. "What do you think Hiragi-sensei called us for, Kokomi-san?" Yumehara asked a bit hesitantly because, from what Azumi could hear from her mind, Chiyo was confused about the level of closeness she has with Teruhashi. 'Are we even close enough for me to be calling her with her first name?'  She masked her dilemma well.
"He didn't tell me much about it, just something about the diorama-making project," Teruhashi said. 'Maybe Hiragi-sensei will finally switch my partner. She wasn't very cooperative since we've been assigned together. I hope I can group with Kanasawa-san'
'There is a high probability of that happening.'
"Good afternoon. Is Hiragi-sensei here?"
“Ah, thank you Teruhashi-san. Kanasawa-san, Yumehara-san, regarding your project this semester," Kokomi nodded and was about to leave (not really because she was hoping to be called back to discuss about her project), but their subject teacher stopped her. "This involves you too, Teruhashi-san… As I was saying, Teruhashi-san's partner is absent today because she was sick, correct? Well, she apparently was injured while out in the night rollerblading. I assumed she lied about her situation. She suffered a few major fractures and is in the hospital at the moment. She may not be able to attend school for the following month, and unfortunately, that leaves Teruhashi-san to burden herself with carrying the project by herself, so I will assign her to your group. Is that alright with you three?"
"--Yes, Hiragi-sensei"
"--Yes, HIragi-sensei"
"Very well, sorry for the trouble. You are dismissed."
Azumi closed the door behind her just as Teruhashi let out a little squeal. 'The universe is always in my favor~'
"Looks like we're groupmates now, Kokomi-san." Yumehara said, snapping the glowing lamp for moth boys girl out from her little surge of joy. Teruhashi cleared her throat and grinned at her new partners, trying her best to surpress her excitement.
"Yes, please treat me well."
——————————
'What is time?
because I sure know nothing about managing it.'
Azumi bolted out of her bed the moment her mind woke up and began listing the objectives for the day. She was supposed to meet with Yumehara and Kokomi at 10 am to buy the rest of their materials. After which, they will go to the Kanasawa residence to begin the making of their project.
It is 9:50. And their meeting place is a 30-minute walk from Azumi's home.
'They probably will think horribly of me if I don't show up on time'  Panic is not a foreign feeling for the girl, but she never learns how to deal with it despite how common she experiences it. Azumi's mind goes blank and silent at the time she needs it to run. She paces around her room, absentmindedly packing objects she thinks she might need in her bag, hoping to make her brain work with the stimulation.
This is one of the times the psychic hopes she has the power to manipulate time, to stop it for even a little while.
Powers... Azumi remembers she has them, and she freezes to cuss herself for a second. Because there's always time for that.
She uses her abilities to her advantage as she selects a hoodie and jeans. As she changes and finalizes her look, Azumi grabs her phone and attempts to dial her mother, hoping for parental assistance because she couldn't think for herself at the moment. When she didn't pick up, she tried her father, but he couldn't answer the phone. She didn't try again. Both are likely busy with their occupations. She stared at her mobile, a wave of melancholy washed over her, before she snapped out of her trance and to the situation at hand.
'Fuuuuck, I can't teleport to the meeting place because it's too public'  Azumi rubs her temple as if it will help her come up with ideas. She glanced at the clock and sighed in frustration.
Azumi doesn't know if it's because she just woke up or because she's normally that self-deprecatingly stupid and only realizes it now, but the only thought that occupies her empty mind is, 'Invincibility. Invincibility. Invincibility. Invincibility'
So she gave up on the stress and tried cloaking herself but to no avail. Azumi repeatedly tried, growing increasingly troubled at every failed attempt. She rubbed her face and combed her hair with her fingers, her hand grazing metal. Her mind buffered for a second before Azumi let out a growl of irritation. She aggressively twiddled with her ear cuff, so much so that it began to hurt. She ignored the pain and proceeded to turn herself invisible. Azumi teleported behind a tree. She surveyed the area before uncloaking herself and stealthily walking to an entrance of the park. She casually re-enters the place as if her mind wasn't just hit with overwhelming stress so suddenly and was spotted by Yumehara.
"Oh, Kokomi-san, I see Azumi-san over there!" Yumehara gently held her companion's elbow in hopes of drawing her attention away from the group of people that gathered around. It did, and Teruhashi watched with Yumehara as Azumi walked over to where they sat, smiles plastered on their faces.
'The people are staring. I KNOW they are. Fuck. They're judging you. Cover your ear; they can see your ear cuff. They'll think you're a freak'  Azumi walked stiffly and awkwardly towards her groupmates, mindful of the eyes that follow her every move. She stood in front of her classmates, untucking her hair. 'Greet them, damn it. You have a mouth for a reason.'
"Hi, sorry I'm late..." Azumi hid her hands in her pockets. "Did you two wait long?"
"No, not at all, you're just in time. Let's go?" Chiyo bent her wrist dismissively at Azumi's words before facing Teruhashi. The bluenette politely bid goodbye to the cohort that formed, and greeted Azumi. Silence consumed the three's ambiance as they walked out of the park. "You're very popular, Kokomi-san," Yumehara decided to speak, attempting to start a conversation. She hoped Azumi would join in and not be left out, but the girl silently lagged behind the two, providing space for other pedestrians to walk by.
Teruhashi followed Yumehara's gaze, and the idea clicked in her mind. "I don't think I'm that popular." She outwardly humbles herself to respond, a far cry from her self-centered thoughts, before moving on to a different topic. "I kinda want to see where you live, Kanasawa-san."
Azumi ripped her gaze from a nearby tree and focused on the eyes of her companions. "Ah, my... my house...? Uhm, you will see after we buy the rest of our materials. We will make our project there, right?" She alternated between Yumehara's honey brown eyes and Teruhashi's dark blue ones, confused and searching for confirmation. 'Did they change plans while they were waiting for me?'
"O-Oh yeah" Teruhashi awkwardly laughed in response, embarrassed at the fact she forgot about their plans. "Yeah, we'll go after buying the rest of our materials" Azumi nodded, pursing her lips before averting her eyes to the trees.
Yumehara led the two to a small bookstore after having walked through a few streets. "Here we are!" The brunette grabbed her friends' hands without warning and burst through the doors. They encountered a few problems while searching the isles, like how they found out the store sold out of red cloth that they planned to use as curtains. But Teruhashi suggested a possible plan for the issue and they continued on without another problem.
Except...
'Shit my wallet'
Color drained from Azumi's face after confirming the absence of her money thrice. 'This is why I'm horrible under pressure' She resisted the urge to sigh before tapping on the shoulder of Yumehara. "Hey... uhm... I... think I forgot my wallet at home. Is it possible for me to postpone my contribution? At-At least until we arrive at my house...?" She was nervous as she awaits Yumehara's response, fiddling with the strap of her bag.
"Yes, of course" Relief washed over Azumi. She never pictured Yumehara as someone rude, so she half-expected a polite answer, but her mind would have none of it and still influenced her otherwise.
"Thank you, I promise to pay my contribution"
°●•°●•°●
"This..." Two pairs of eyes widened, their sizes comparable to saucers. The two unconsciously raised their voices, their words coming out in sync. "This is where you live?!"
Azumi got anxious at their reaction, not used to inviting people into her home. "... yeah...?" It sounded more like a question than a statement because of how unsure Azumi is to respond. She stuffed her hands in her pockets.
Yumehara noticed her friend's response, moving to hold Azumi's hands in her own. "It's the most elegant house I've ever seen!" She hoped to minimize her companion's hesitation.
"I agree!" Teruhashi beamed, joining their hands with her own to add her support. The two nodded their heads rapidly, smiling the widest Azumi has seen them sport.
Her groupmates' efforts reassured Azumi. She gave a small but genuine smile before opening the gates for them to enter.
Being homeschooled her whole life, Azumi never felt the experience of having friends to invite or tour her home. She never learned how to grow or even start her social life without her mother forcing other children to make their acquaintance with her. She wanted to do things without being told to, to make decisions on her own accord.
Azumi holds expectations for PK Academy. Expectations that are not even close to the level her parents had for her.

No, no, don't apologize, that post was fantastic, the concepts are amazing, YES TO MINI IZUKA AND MINI SAIKI. Also, 'hey can you help me my friend got kinapped' is such a crazy phrase to say, but not more crazy that Saiki's whole life, I love all ideas you can tell us all about them. DO TELL US.
okay!! i feel like i now have two (2) “my hero saiki” crossovers to write: the one where saiki’s first encounter in the b/nha universe is accidentally teleporting into yuuei during the USJ incident and being mistaken for a villain, and the one where saiki visited the b/nha universe as a child. THERE’S JUST AN ABUNDANCE OF CROSSOVERS HERE, the hijinks all write themselves, saiki still has no luck in any of his endeavors but at least he still has his ungodly arsenal of questionably useful powers.
ANYWAYS, as requested, here are all the shitty ideas that have been stubbornly spawning in my head despite all my efforts to the contrary:
the one where izuku is talking with his mom about saiki, maybe allowing himself a moment of grief after all these long years. where did saiki disappear to, he laments. sometimes, he says, sometimes he wonders if saiki is still alive – if saiki has found a home, or a, a family – if saiki is happy, and if so, if saiki sometimes thinks of them —- he hears a whoosh. he turns. a familiar face sitting at the dinner table, stone-faced, but the glint of his glasses still manages to convey a sense of bewilderment. …tadaima, saiki says. izuku screams. izuku’s mom screams. saiki mentally contemplates whether or not having a tendency to scream when surprised is a useful and cathartic character trait, concludes it is not, but feels that sitting blank-faced at a table does not adequately express how much he doesn’t want to deal with this right now, either. maybe he should give this screaming thing a try.
izuku holds this against saiki forever and brings it up whenever possible. i’m impressed that you kept up with your heroics hobby all these years, saiki says. well, i had to occupy myself with SOMETHING while i thought you were DEAD, says izuku.
oh, you have a brother? i didn’t know, that, deku! uraraka says. i would have told you sooner if a certain someone hadn’t DISAPPEARED for SEVEN YEARS, izuku says loudly. stop holding it against me. it’s not like i meant to, saiki thinks, annoyed, and goes to his room to sulk be alone.
izuku: seven years ago this day, i lost someone very dear to me. saiki: quit telling everyone im deadizuku: sometimes i can still hear his voice
the villain!au crossover, where saiki returns to the b/nha universe seven years later only to find out that his friend has become a notorious villain. what the fuck, izuku.
classic villain!deku edition: “don’t try and convince me to return to the right path!” so you acknowledge that you’re not on the right path. “the heroes are a corrupt institute. i won’t be like them. i’ll teach them a lesson.” you’re more corrupt than they are right now.
izuku tries to pull off a crime. that’s illegal. saiki foils his plans and stares izuku down judgmentally from the rooftop or something
saiki tails izuku and investigates the villain alliance. okay, he’s not letting this go on any longer. he destroys the villain alliance, drops off the villains in front of the police station, and drags izuku forcefully on a soul-searching roadtrip around the world or something. and by roadtrip, he means “teleporting to different locations as it suits his whims.” and by soul-searching, he mostly means making izuku gain some perspective. stop focusing on revenge plots, drink some coconut juice. whatever
villain!deku fugue state: “…sorry, i never knew anyone named saiki kusuo. don’t get in my way, please.” i.e. the one where izuku has been brainwashed or w/e is popular these days, and he doesn’t remember his family or saiki. saiki kidnaps forcibly teleports izuku to a psychologist’s office. the psychologist shouts in surprise. izuku tries to climb out the window. saiki grabs izuku’s shirt collar and points at izuku like he has memory problems. fix them please,
noumu izuku xover: saiki is pissed and fucks shit up with the villain alliance. nice
The Villain!Izuku Comedy That We All Need But Don’t Deserve: at first saiki is kind of pissed and determined to drag izuku back onto the right path. then he’s just kind of confused.
saiki, internally: …i leave for seven years, and izuku turns villainy into a celebrity occupation? (he is grudgingly impressed.)
izuku is overjoyed to meet saiki! he isn’t sure who saiki is but HE’S GLAD TO MEET HIM ANYWAYS. izuku immediately ropes saiki into helping out with his schemes. saiki resists, valiantly. sort of. he succumbs to izuku’s persistent, cheerful insistence in the end.
every time i tell myself “this au can’t get any more ridiculous than it already is” ideas like this happen, and i’m full of regret
the AU where saiki’s brother, kuusuke, meddles with saiki’s control devices; as a result, saiki accidentally catapults himself and his brother into the b/nha universe. now saiki will have to work with his brother to get them both back home.
kuusuke: cant you… teleport us back home? kusuo: no. it takes three minutes before i can teleport again. shouldn’t you know this? havent you been looking for a way to beat me for 14 years? aren’t you a top cambridge student?
hijinks: breaking into high-security or Very Important locations to get the equipment & materials that kuusuke needs. this one is fun because a) it puts them on the heroes’ radar, and b) it puts them on the villains’ radar. kuusuke enjoys riling up and baiting both sides far too much. kusuo is upset
i like this idea is because kuusuke and kusuo have a bad relationship, so being forced to cooperate would be so INTERESTING for their character growth!!. AND it would… maybe… show them… that they care about each other (^:
PLUS, IMAGINE THIS: kuusuke gets into serious trouble. kusuo is pissed off in a cold fury sort of way, and wreaks all sorts of hell in order to get kuusuke out. and kuusuke… well, kuusuke has never cared about anyones feelings for a single second in his life, but!! but maybe!!! this incident stirs up feelings other than competitive admiration and jealousy!!! this is literally like 99% of the reason i want to write this idea
kuusuke: my brother… really cares… about me…kusuo: like hell i do. i just need you to find a way for us to get back home.kuusuke: no need to be so tsundere, kusuo,
SCENARIO: kusuo and kuusuke are meeting with the heroes for some reason. kusuo is mistrustful, wary, and wants to leave and have nothing to do with the heroes. kuusuke tells the heroes not to mind kusuo, he’s basically just a bristly cat. kusuo bristles, because he is NOT. fuck off kuusuke
there’s just a really interesting dynamic that could come out of this, and it’s really good
SAIKI KUSUO / OPM AU THAT NO ONE ASKED FOR: saiki somehow loses both his control devices, teleports to the OPM universe, accidentally destroys a large swath of land because he can’t control his powers. he’s frustrated, and he’s also frustrated with all the people showing up to attack him – and he’s so frustrated that he can’t control his power enough to defeat them without seriously hurting them!!! saitama shows up and is able to withstand saiki’s attacks. maybe he tries to fight saiki a little bit because,,, hey,,, he wants a good fight,,,,,, but then he’s like “….you’re just a kid??” and stops
“hang on,” the bald man says, frowning and leaning forward slightly to inspect kusuo’s face. “aren’t you a little young to be destroying countries or whatever? you’re like, a kid.” i’m SEVENTEEN, thank you very much, saiki thinks resentfully.
so i guess this is the one where saitama stops trying to fight saiki and starts teaching him how to control his powers or something? maybe saiki can finally sleep without worrying about destroying stuff in his sleep?
this post is unbearably long

Chapter Twenty-Five: Frolic! Silent Night

A/n: Another chapter uploaded, let's go! It's a holiday chapter but... take it now. Doesn't mean that it's time to celebrate Christmas or anything. Keep Christmas in December! Anyway, hope you like it ^-^
---
OH LOOK AT THAT, A HOLIDAY SPECIAL when it's nowhere near winter. Had MJ actually done this right, she would have had this chapter out so long ago, when it was you know, Christmas. Then again, it takes her so long to write chapters that it could end up getting uploaded on Christmas. Either way, here we are. Beginning of September and now we get some wholesome winter content. Anyway…
When it comes to the holidays, Akari is somewhat partial to them. Sure, on Halloween, it’s somewhat cool to get dressed up, it’s nice to get presents on Christmas, and free days off from school are an added bonus. One thing that is always certain with holidays is the celebration between her family and Kusuo’s family. Ever since the two families had known each other they had spent every holiday that they could together. Birthdays had to be one of the most celebrated times between the families, Christmas had to be number one, however.
Which is where Akari found herself in the Kusuo’s family kitchen, helping out with finishing the preparations for dinner. She was tasked with finishing up the udon while her father and Kurumi(Kusuo’s mom in case you forgot because MJ might have) were bustling around the kitchen putting the finishing touches on their dishes. Meanwhile, Miku and Nendou were hanging up some Christmas decorations around the Kusuo home. Obviously, that included a Christmas tree that they were putting the final ornaments on. Yes, Nendou was there as well. Apparently, Kurumi had run into him and invited him over. While that’s a sweet gesture, Rikuto wasn’t all too happy about it as he retreated back into Kusuo’s room for refuge. Even with his mother’s scolding, he was not coming back down to face that monster. What a rude boy. So Nendou then took up his job of helping with decorations.
As far as holiday spirit, Akari would say that she doesn’t have all that much of it. Celebrations just means having to be around a lot of people when her family forces her to go out. Sure, they know to an extent that she desperately despises being out in public for a celebration, but sometimes they just want to spend family time at an event of some kind. At that point, Akari just has to suck it up and go with it. Really the only upside that Akari saw out of it was that Kusuo had to be there with her. That way they could stick together and suffer through it with each other.
The front door then opened up, and it was Kusuo as he came home. “Oh, Ku. Welcome home.” Kurumi greeted her son happily.
“Good evening Kusuo.” Miku greeted the boy while finishing up her decorating.
From the kitchen, Yamato exclaimed, “Ah, Kusuo! Merry Christmas!” Just from his shout, Kusuo could hear the sunny smile from the older man who was cooking in his family’s kitchen.
Nendo also greeted his best friend, “Hey, where have you been, pal?”
Kusuo just stared at them for a moment before shutting the door in their faces. He certainly didn’t want to have to deal with Nendo of all people tonight. The door then opened up again, this time it was Akari who had opened it up. There was an undertone of an apologetic smile on her face as she thought to him, 'You should probably just come in, you can't avoid them.' She could mentally hear him sigh heavily before he came back inside.
“Watch me.”
Kusuo could hear the mental sigh from her, ‘Kusuo…’ So he could do nothing but go back into his house. Last thing he wanted to do was annoy or upset Akari, especially on a holiday, so he’ll come inside.
“We just ran into each other at the grocery, so I invited him." His mom explained happily, "Parties are better with more people after all!”
Nendo let out a goofy laugh, “Yeah, I really lucked out.”
“Give me a break.” Kusuo mentally grumbled, “Now, my own interests aside, this is what you would expect from a typical Christmas episode.”
“So, what’s this garbage?”
“Are you my love interest?” No, Kusuo, that’s a different fanfiction.
The door then opened up again as the last member of the party came in, “I’m home.”
Kurumi gushed as her husband came in, “He’s home!”
“Good grief. I forgot about the other pain in the butt.”
Akari rolled her eyes at his thought, ‘looks like you’re going to have such fun tonight.’ She certainly didn’t mind Nendo or Kuniharu. They could get annoying at times, but she didn’t detest them right off the bat like Kusuo did. Though there are times when they could be a little too much. Though she’d let their annoyance slide for the night, that’ll be her present to them.
Everyone else greeted the costumed man as he bounced around, “Merry Christmas! Santa’s here!”  He shouted out before noticing that there was one new guest in their home. The strange looking teen was not someone that he had ever seen before. He pulled his wife to the side to have a sidebar with her, “You should’ve told me that we have guests. I just made a fool of myself.”
“But you are a fool,” Kusuo scoffed, “And the Watanabe’s always come over.”
Akari chuckled lightly, ‘You think he’s actually smart enough to remember that?’
“Good point.”
Kusuo’s parents then went to have a sidebar with each other. Kuniharu asked, not as quietly as he thought, “So, who is he?”
She explained, “That’s Ku and Kachan’s friend Nendo.”
“A friend of Kusuo’s?” He sounded astonished that Kusuo even had a friend outside of Akari. Like it was some sort of feat that he was able to make any sort of relationship other than Akari or his family. Then again, he wouldn’t say that they are friends, after all. The only friend he has and that he cares about having is Akari.
Kusuo groaned, “Not you, too.”
“I see. That cheeky and uncooperative Kusuo, who I would have smacked if he didn’t have powers, has made another friend.” Seemed like all he was doing was belittling his son and saying that he’s quite a piece of work. Which he isn’t exactly wrong about, Kusuo isn’t exactly the most approachable person nor the nicest.
Kusuo’s eyes seemed to twitch, “You want a beating?”
“Nice to meet you, Nendo!” He exclaimed happily, “I’m Kusuo’s father, Kuniharu.”
Nendo blinked owlishly, “Oh, you’re my pal’s dad? Nice to meet you.”
“Is that really his friend?” Stepped away to ask his wife, once again not exactly that quiet, “His face is like a gangster’s!”
“He’s a good boy,” Kurumi insisted.
Miku leaned over to her own husband and said in a hush tone, “they do know we can all hear them.” Yamato just shrugged his shoulders.
Kusuo deadpanned, “Are you done yet?”
Seemingly the only one who actually didn’t hear them talking behind his back, Nendo held up the santa costume with wonder in his eyes. “This is really well-made. I actually thought you really were Santa.”
Akari stared at her friend as he admired the costume with furrowed eyebrows, “It’s a decent costume…”
Though Kuniharu’s eyes sparkled, “What, really?”
“That makes you happy?” Kusuo asked with a raised eyebrow.
So the families plus Nendo sat themselves down at the table and started to dig into their dinner. Miku was able to tell Rikuto to come downstairs, despite his obvious fear of Nendo. Well, she more likely bribed him with getting a manga or two if he sat through dinner. He hesitated slightly, but the urge to get more manga was too strong for him, so he accepted and sat down at the table. He made sure to sit in the seat as far away from Nendo as he could, however. Also placing Saiki and his sister close to Nendo to protect him, just in case.
They all cheered, “Merry Christmas!”
“You know, Nendo! You really get it, don’t you?” Kuniharu said as he slung an arm around Nendou’s large shoulders, “I like how you believed I was Santa.”
Kusuo blinked at the demeanor of his father, “You really turned around quick there.”
“Ever since he was an infant, Kusuo would look at me like I was human waste when I dressed up like Santa.” He explained as the flashbacks of how disgusted his son had always been with him. The glares from a baby Kusuo were just as intimidating as a grown Kusuo, in Kuniharu’s opinion.
“Then why didn’t you just stop?” Kusuo asked blandly, his bored eyes narrowing at his father.
Though Kuniharu just ignored that burning stare from his son and swung an arm around Nendo’s shoulders. He smiled widely, “You’re such a good-natured boy, Nendo.”
Rikuto grumbled, “he doesn’t look like it.”
“What?” Nendo asked in confusion, “I’m not that good or anything. I mean, Santa’s never come to me before.”
“What did you say?” Kuniharu asked in confusion, “What has your father been doing?”
“I don’t have a dad," Nendo explained, "He died before I was born." The parents blinked at the news, now everyone becoming silent. With such heavy information, what were they to say now? Even Rikuto became a bit sad for Nendo. Even if Rikuto thought he looked quite ghastly, he wouldn’t wish something like that on someone.
“What?”
“I had no idea…” Kurumi said shakily.
“Oh, we’re so sorry,” Yamato said to the young boy. One of the worst things was to not have a parent be around, especially due to something like that.
Kuniharu apologized, “I’m sorry if we brought up painful memories.”
Nendo just blinked, "What? It’s fine. I have got my mom. Yes, Santa never came, but I’m not sad or anything."
Kuniharu said, near tears upon hearing about this, “I see.” With that he and Kuniharu backed away, tears running down their cheeks after hearing Nendo’s story.
“Wait, what?” Nendo was completely unaware of the mood change. The somber mood that took over the room was not detected by him in the slightest. “You know, pal, I can’t believe your dad dressed up like Santa.”
Kusuo rolled his eyes, “You haven’t seen anything yet.”
Akari glanced at her best friend from the corner of her eyes, ‘things are going to get chaotic now, I suppose.’ Kusuo just gave her a bland look that said ‘we all knew this was gonna happen’. It wouldn’t be a night at the Kusuo household without something strange happening.
Nendo tapped his chin in thought, “Would my dad have done the same?”
Kurumi then came back towards the table, “I’m sorry for stepping out like that.”
“Where’s Pal’s dad?” Nendo asked.
"Oh, he had to step out to lick a client’s shoe or something." Kurumi nervously explained, "Let’s just continue without him."
Suddenly, there was a bang as the glass door attempted to be pulled open. It was Kuniharu now trying to get back into the house after getting dressed back into his Santa costume. He certainly was making quite a ruckus just to get back in.
“How did he get out there so fast?” Rikuto asked, while blinking owlishly.
Yamato shrugged his shoulders, “Maybe Kusuo teleported him out.”
“I didn’t,” he denied.
“What? What the heck?” Nendo shouted out in fright, “Someone looking like Santa is trying to open the window!”
Kurumi was quick to rush over to the door, “Oh, no!”
The Santa imposter whisper-shouted at her, "I told you to open it for me!"
"I’m sorry, I just didn’t think you would come so soon." She responded back in the same hushed tone.
Yamato leaned over to Miku and stage-whispered, “they aren’t very good at the secret surprise thing?” Miku just grunted in agreement. Though they’ve known the Kusuo’s for quite a while, so they shouldn’t expect anything less from the couple.
Kusuo rolled his eyes, “They’re a mess.”
The counterfeit Santa was eventually let inside, with his large bag of presents in tow. “Hi there,” Kuniharu shouted out with a jovial laugh, “Nendo. Nice to meet you, I’m Santa.”
“See?” Kusuo rolled his eyes and thought to Akari, “He’s a pretty strange father, isn’t he? There is no way this is going to work again. Even Nendo is going to realize…”
“It’s the real Santa!” Seems like you overestimated Nendo, Kusuo. You honestly should have expected this. The other teen was more than excited to see a costumed Kuniharu, completely fooled like a small child.
Kusuo blinked, “I guess not.”
Nendo’s eyes sparkled, “This is freaking awesome.”
“Well, it is Nendo.”
Still sitting at the table, Yamato cooed, “look at how happy he is, he certainly still has the heart of a child.” Oh, how he wished he could go back in time when his own children were still little and believed in Santa as enthusiastically as Nendo. They grow up so fast. It nearly caused tears to come to his eyes, but Miku already knew what he was thinking so he gave him a tissue.
Still in astonishment, Nendo asked, “Will you shake my hand, Santa?”
“Okay.” Nendo then aggressively shook Kuniharu’s hand, which caused the man to cringe just a little bit at the strength behind it.
“You guys are way too excited. Good grief.”
‘I think it’s a bit endearing…’ Akari thought, not really attempting to project the thought to Kusuo. Obviously, he heard it regardless. He knew that there are moments when Akari could get sappy about something, they are few and far in between, but they always made him think. Were they really endearing? Was it really something to coo over and find cute? If Akari thought so then should he?
Akari isn’t the greatest at expressing her feelings, only ever showing genuine excitement over something she truly enjoys. Well, she hasn’t done that since she was a child. She’s obviously mellowed out as a teen, but she has her moments. So it was something for Kusuo to think over.
“Oh, I know!” Nendo shouted, breaking Kusuo from his thoughts, “If you’re Santa, you must have reindeer with you.”
Kuniharu blinked, “What?”
“Actually, I’m more excited about meeting the reindeer.”
It took a moment for Kuniharu to process that information before clearing his throat, “Okay, I have one waiting outside. Why don’t you take a look?”
‘Please, Kusuo!’ Kuniharu mentally begged his son.
Kusuo glared, “Don’t get me involved.”
“Please, Ku!” His mother begged him and grabbed his arm, “Help us, okay?”
Kusuo looked over to Akari who just shrugged her shoulders, ‘Wouldn’t hurt to help them.’ She didn’t see anything too difficult in this situation. After all, he wouldn’t have to do much to get this to happen.
“Oh, fine.” He huffed, not really able to say no to Akari, “I guess it’d be good enough.” He barely exerted his powers to conjure a deer in their backyard. Wasn’t that hard, honestly.
“Wow! It’s a reindeer!” Nendo shouted in excitement, “Awesome!”
“It’s just a regular deer,” Kusuo explained, though he expected nothing else from Nendo to believe it to be a real life reindeer. The child-like wonder in Nendo’s face was quite astonishing to see up close.
Miku blinked at the sheer stupidity of the boy, “how is he this… oblivious.” She really has never encountered someone like this before.
Her son, having been keeping refuge behind his parents grunted, “you’d be surprised about this guy, mom.”
Now rummaging through his large bag, Kuniharu pulled out a box, “Here’s your present, Nendo.”
“Wow!” Nendo exclaimed, “Are you sure?”
Kusuo’s eyes narrowed, “It was supposed to be my present.”
“Alright!” Nendo cheered, “That’s my second one this year.”
“What? Second?” Kuniharu blinked, “I thought you never received a present before.”
He shook his head, “No, not from Santa. But my mom always gets me one.” Nendo explained, “Every year she leaves me a present by my pillow while I’m asleep. I don’t understand why, though. She could just hand it to me directly.” It took a moment for everyone to think it over, before realizing just how oblivious Nendo was. The group collectively questioned just how stupid Nendo could be. The only ones who didn’t seem to be as surprised were Akari and Kusuo, though they’re used to Nendo at this point.
‘How does she do it?’ Akari asked dumbly, referring to Nendo’s mother.
Kusuo blinked, “She’s a good mother.”
“Now that we have that settled, let’s have dessert!” Yamato exclaimed to usher everyone back to the table. No need to dwell on Nendo and his obliviousness, they had some food to eat. There was already an array of some lovely looking deserts on the table.  He hopped around taking away dirty plates and replacing them with new ones.“Here you are, my dear.” He placed a kiss on the side of her head lovingly.
Miku took the plate from her husband, “Thank you, Yamato.”
He went around the table, presenting everyone with their desert, and came to the last person. His beaming smile blinded Kusuo momentarily as he was presented with his glorious treat. “Of course, some coffee jelly for you Kusuo.” Kusuo’s mouth was watering at how delicious it looked, almost too perfect to be eaten. Something he would obviously expect from Yamato’s food. “Akari was adamant about making it special for you this time.” Kusuo looked over at Akari with a slightly raised eyebrow. So it wasn’t Yamato who made it?
Akari flushed at the attention and focused herself on her own dessert, “You liked it last time…” After he liked it the last time she made it, Akari had made sure to perfect the recipe. She asked for tips from her father about techniques and the best ingredients. While she knew she could just use the same exact recipe that he used, she attempted to make it her own. Her recipe was a bit sweeter, since she knows Kusuo enjoyed sweets even if he wouldn’t admit it, but kept the bitter undertone of the coffee in it. It was strange how she got an unnatural balance between sweet and bitter, but nothing about her was natural.
As they enjoyed their delicious desserts, the parents talking about something uninteresting to the teens, Akari noticed something from the corner of her eyes. She thought for a moment that she was hallucinating as there was a bit of a smile and pink blush to Kusuo’s face. Though it was gone the moment that Akari blinked. She must have been seeing things.
By the time everyone was done eating, it got late enough for Kurumi to suggest Nendo to head home. Which he did, knowing that his own mother would be wondering where he is. So he thanked them and headed off happily full of food and a new present. Kusuo was still a bit salty about the present that was meant to be his going to Nendo, but didn’t say anything. He just had to deal with it, oh well.
“Do you want to stay the night, Akari?” Kurumi asked the teen
Akari looked at Kusuo, ‘that's okay with you?’ He just silently nodded at her, as she answered his mother, “Sure.” She just wanted to make sure that Kusuo was okay with it. The last thing she would want to do is annoy him even more after having to deal with the unexpected cameo from Nendo.
So after that, the two teens found themselves lounging in Kusuo’s room. They had already changed into their pajamas as Akari was now laying on Kusuo’s bed and he was sitting in front of the television. He surfed through some channels to occupy their time until they fell asleep, but nothing was too interesting.
Akari gnawed at the inside of her cheek for a moment, an internal debate taking over her mind. One that Kusuo could hear quite clearly, “I can hear you overthinking.”
She huffed, “I know.”
“You can just give it to me,” he said, having already heard that she was thinking about giving him a present. What the present was, he couldn’t tell since she was keeping that part a bit secretive even in her own thoughts.
So Akari used her shadows to grab a present from downstairs and drag it up the stairs. A lazy move, but wouldn’t we all do that if we could? Why go downstairs yourself when you can just be lazy. Lazy, but smart.
The shadow pulled in the present wrapped up in simple purple paper and a small box. It was brought into Akari’s hands as she sat up on Kusuo’s bed. With a slight hesitation on her porcelain face, she leaned over and handed the box to him. There was no need for her to be nervous about this, at all. Why she was hesitant about this at all is confusing to her. It’s just her best friend, and she knew he was going to love this gift, so what does she have to worry about?
Kusuo ripped open the wrapping and found that it was a ring box. He isn’t one for jewelry, at all, but he’d consider it if it was from Akari. He might not wear it, but he’d accept it, only because it was from her.
So he opened up the box and found that it was a small silver ring. Nothing about it was too special or flashy. If he were to wear jewelry, it would be something simple and inexpensive. So he could at least appreciate that. Still didn’t change the fact that he found jewelry to be completely useless.
However, that thought changed when he picked up the ring and there was nothing but silence. Complete, blissful silence. For the first time in forever, Kusuo couldn’t hear a thing. The stray thoughts from people within the 200 meter distance were not in his own head. How was this possible!?
“I found it on a whim,” Akari softly said, seeing his confusion and wonder. “There’s a new psychic shop by Rikuto’s favorite manga store and I got bored. I took a look around and found this.” Her wide yellow eyes blinked at him, “I wasn’t sure that it worked but I’m glad that it did.” She sounded a bit giddy, with the prospect that it actually works and she wasn’t just scammed into buying a useless ring.
Kusuo blinked, staring at the ring for a moment before looking back up at her. They’ve given gifts before, it’s not out of the ordinary. It would be strange if they hadn’t given each other gifts during their long friendship. However, it felt different this time. A lot of things have felt different between them for a while now, but neither knew how to address it. What could they say or how would they question it? Was it even worth questioning?
Though this just felt so… heart felt. Super heart felt. A ring that could alleviate his own annoyance with having to hear people’s thoughts 24/7? This had to be the best present that he had ever gotten in such a long time. Of course, it had come from his best friend as well. That just seemed to make it even better. Kusuo wasn’t sure what to say to it. He wanted to question just how it worked or where it came from exactly, but he couldn’t with how amazed he was over it.
Even with the silence, Akari could easily see the astonishment in Kusuo’s eyes and appreciation. He didn’t need to say anything for her to understand his thanks. It brought a small smile to her face as she hid her eyes behind her hair.
A voice then broke them out of their little moment. And of course it was the annoying little brother who was smirking in the doorway. “Akari and Kusuo sitting in a tree K-I-” Before Rikuto could even finish, he was strung up by his midsection as a shadow grabbed him and stuck him to the ceiling. Yet another shadow shut the door, to make sure that no one else came to tease or bother them. Though even with the intruder gone and stuck to the ceiling for a bit as punishment for intruding on the teens, it didn’t help the slightly awkward atmosphere that took over Kusuo’s room. Akari nearly allowed the shadows to envelop her due to her embarrassment. Why she was embarrassed, she wasn’t completely sure. Neither was Kusuo. Both of them couldn’t explain the fluttery feeling in their stomachs either, though they would have to just brush it off. Suddenly, the pointless television show seemed far more interesting than talking.

A/n: There we go. So Saiki's got the ring now. Just slightly earlier than in the show, so we'll see if I can play around with that. I thought I could just make a cute little scene like that with it. I think I succeeded with it! Let me know what you thought of it! Until the next chapter, my friends!
