I decided to make a HH AU cause...y'know....anyway.... now introducing

Reset Resort! A Hotelier Vox AU

- you already know, it's a hotel Vox AU.....but not quite what you're thinking. Kind of a swap between Alastor and Vox, it focuses on the butterfly effects of this single change, rather than a full reversal.

- Most things are kinda(?) the same. Except the hotel is not as run-down and quite more successful. As if S1’s hotel started with S2's reputation and building. It's also more modern/sleek and closer to your typical strip hotel. Much more busy with additional residents coming in and out. Think Vegas-style. It has way too many amenities than necessary, and it's actually an enjoyable place to hang out , but the message for "redemption" might be a bit....lost.

- It’s supposed to be a place where Sinners can (lightly) indulge in their vices without risk of falling into a soul-binding deal on their road to recovery.

- In this AU, movement between Sinners/Winners has been proven. NOT redemption yet. With this “concrete” evidence, Vox considers it "purely a business investment" to sponsor the hotel.

- Because of this "proof", Heaven has granted Hell/Charlie a grace period of an extra year with no exterminations, so long as they continue to monitor the process and Hell provides further progress and evidence of redemption.

Vox is there for the start up of the hotel with Charlie. He sponsors her project with his reach and expertise. His personality is much more subdued, his TV persona taking center stage, except for rare occasions. His temper is not as bad as in-canon. AKA, he’s much more fake and corny in this AU.

Charlie is slightly more mature and realistic in this AU. She studies redemption seriously and notes behavioral patterns/is much more patient and careful with the process. With Vox being extremely efficient and taking over the managerial/facility side of the resort, she is able to dedicate her time fully towards the redemption of sinners and being a therapist. She is still overzealous sometimes because she knows that if nobody else will show enthusiasm/push sinners to do better, then nobody will.

- Vox tried to manipulate Charlie very early on when they first met, and Charlie ended up realizing his kindness was just for his own benefit and has been wary of that fact ever since.

- Their relationship is like: she knows he’s reliable and will do everything she asks, but is doubtful/sad that he’s ingenuine. Vox thinks Charlie looks at him with pity and absolutely HATES it, but he still plays carefully so he can do a repeat and build up her trust again. Doesn't like Vaggie for a similar reason. They just think he's another misguided sinner in need. Neither have fully grasped the idea that most Sinners chose to do-evil(which he certainly has).

- Vox holds a contract with Lucifer. What for? Well... let's say that they're on good terms and are friends. They meet with each other once a week (where Lucifer gets social interaction and updates on Charlie).

I already have sketches for Alastor and Vaggie planned out in this AU~

It's less of a full "reversal" and more so one swap and the butterfly effect that follows. This AU has been my brainchild for a few weeks, so PLEASEEE I'd love to answer any questions or asks....

I'm making this post purely to shout out some incredibly talented fanfic writers from the Hazbin Hotel fandom and my favorite works of theirs.

Did anyone ask me for this? No. Will I post it anyway? Absolutely. The writers in this fandom are too good.

The first fanfic writer I want to shout out is @prince-liest (ao3 link)

I absolutely love their get cared for idiot (Alastor) series (not the official name but they called it that in one of their asks jokingly so it's now the default in my head).

Knock, Knock! It's Your Worst Fucking Nightmare! (this fic gets it!!!! This is what I meant when I said Alastor is growing a heart and part of him is raging against it. He still has ulterior motives and a massive amount of pride and part of him feels like that growing fondness is getting in the way, but he can't stop it. I need to stop before this becomes a long ramble. I've written a couple thousand words on this idea, but this fic is just a better use of your time than any meta I could ever write and way more entertaining :D )

Happily Ever After, and Other Shit Nepotism Can't Buy

The Last Bus Stop in Hell, Now Boarding (Please look at the tags for content warning. Angel and Alastor body swap story.)

They're amazing at balancing on that razor's edge with Alastor where there's a heart in there (really deep) and he's unintentionally growing attached to the hazbin crew, but he doesn't lose his edge. He's still manipulative and an asshole and can easily be the scariest guy in any room. He's in hell for a reason. A+ characterization at all times.

They're so good at writing the complicated dynamics he has with the residents, especially Charlie, and I enjoy how they expand on Alastor's potential dynamic with Angel Dust.

Anything they write from Lucifer's POV is gold too! My favorites are:

The Care and Keeping of Homo Angelus

I am also 100% here for their Aro!Alastor agenda and I'm enjoying their fic I Love Her, I Love Her Not so far!

The second person I want to shout out is @grayintogreen (ao3 link)

Their series Red Roses and Dead Things consistently gut punches me.

Just like Princeliest, they are also fantastic at balancing on that razor's edge with Alastor. A+ characterization for everyone and I love how they write HuskerDust. It's so soft, especially in the aftermath fic for Learn that Even Death May Die called If My Love Is Tomorrow, I've Forgotten Yesterday (that fic hurt in the best way).

The way they explore the aftermath of Learn that Even Death May Die is incredibly impactful. They capture the unique grief that comes from the reality that there are some things you won't get closure for so well that it's painful.

I can't say enough good things about their series. Genuinely go read it.

I found @lediz-watches (ao3 link) before the first season of Hazbin Hotel dropped (I've been a fan of the hellaverse for a few years now and have been enthralled with the Hazbin Hotel pilot since I first watched it in 2020) and I really enjoy their fics.

My favorite is Suffering Kindness. I love the Charlie and Alastor dynamic they explore in this story. I think I'm just a sucker for the Charlie and Alastor dynamic in general, but this fic hits all the right notes for me. (written pre-season 1 but man is it good. 100% recommend)

LeDiz also has a lot of one-shots/collections of one-shots that are very fun.

Dollface (one-shots about Alastor theories. My favorite is the 3rd one. So fascinating!)

Choice Words (one of the few explorations of Alastor and Vaggie's dynamic that I've found in the fandom)

Don't Say It

I have to shout out @ckret2 (ao3 link) and their phenomenal fic You’ve Got a Face for Radio. This is such an amazing aroace!Alastor fic. (Embarrassingly it was this fic that made me realize I was most likely aroace myself. I’d had fleeting moments of suspecting it but it wasn’t until I saw my experiences laid out in a character explicitly written to be aroace that I put the puzzle pieces together. -_- some of these passages were too relatable.) I cannot express how much I love this fic.

I also like their fics Dumpster Baby and Bitter Grapes.

I have one last writer I want to mention because this is getting really long (whoops). The last one is tiredoflofteranditsshit and their Assume He Has a Heart series (because my favorite character and how I interpret them was not obvious enough already with the fics/authors I've recommended. I had to make it more obvious).

These fics are massive (17k and 26k words) and so much fun. Definitely worth the read. Yet another series that follows up season 1 and explores Alastor’s growing connections and how he lies to himself and pushes against it. Love this series and there’s a lot to sink your teeth into :D

Hmmm! Okay! I actually wanted Alastor discovering his partner is a Fallen Angel for a while now. I can imagine what would happen… but uh, anyway. Let’s try this out, shall we? Alastor is now my primary Hazbin Hotel man, which I don’t mind! I love this man!

Alastor- Lies and Deception

Why… why would you lie?! Why did you lie?! Why did… Alastor can barely process what he just learnt. His beloved partner, his cute sweetie. A affectionate polite man, you. You’re not a demon at all, you’re an angel and you were a high-level angel as well. Charlie isn’t the only one who finds out her partner is a angel, Alastor did too

“A-Al! I can explain… I just—” “Save it, Leitore. I don’t want to hear from you” and with that, Alastor goes back down to Hell. Not hearing you out, despite when you try to explain yourself. It hurts your soul seeing your boyfriend, now, so closed-off, cold and disinterested

Alastor refuses to talk to you and when he does, he is quite passive-aggressive but yet, he can’t bring himself to be insulting. He is more business than emotions and comes off as very apathetic. It’s just because he doesn’t know how to act around you anymore with this grand discovery drilled into his head

He avoids you like the plague after the incident in Heaven and Adam revealing both you and Vaggie’s angelic origins to the Group

Alastor had ended up just like Charlie. Both him and Charlie are struggling with learning that their partner lied to them and hid their true selves for so long. Unlike Charlie, who vents to Alastor about Vaggie all the way to the Cannibal Colony, Alastor tries to not focus on you… he doesn’t want a reminder

However, he is eventually talked into trying to make it up with you by his dear friend, Rosie. She reminds him that you’re his lover and that he can’t just shut you out over you not trusting Alastor to not throw you out if you told him the truth… oh, Alastor could kiss Rosie right now! But, he can’t. He needs to make up with you after the weeks he’s spent ignoring you

Like Charlie, Alastor brings over a little gift. Surprised to find out that you’ve gotten back your angel wings after so long of merely looking like an average sinner. Three feathery sets, they are gorgeous and they make your eyes pop. Alastor may not like that his lover is an Angel and he’s a true Demon but that shouldn’t keep you two apart… and after Rosie’s talk, it won’t

After quite the long private talk with you and much forgiveness and acceptance and promising, Alastor is once again, by your side and holding your hand. He was harsh in the past about what he considered a betrayal but he has heard your side of it and forgiven you for lying to him. Not everybody is perfect

Alastor may or may not play with your reborn and re-gained angel wings when he is bored or waiting. You’re always right next to him so he’ll just run sharp long clawed fingers through the gentle feathers and be enamoured by how incredible it feels. Alastor also may just take an nap on your back with how comfortable those wings of yours are

Alastor is your sweet devil, a truly corrupted evil monster but he has an opposite in the man you are, a more pacifistic and harmless soul. Just like Charlie and Vaggie but swapped, you and Alastor are the higher-up Angel-Demon gay couple. Alastor is unredeemable and won’t be going to Heaven whilst you, a being of Heaven, is stuck down here in Hell

Alastor much prefers you stay in your original look but now, that also includes the Seraphim wings. Just keep them out of the way whilst you walk and Alastor is completely content with it. He just has to get use to having an angel in the Hotel… he has to get use to having TWO angels in the Hotel

Trust me, Alastor won’t ask about life as a Seraphim in Heaven. He doesn’t even care about it, he doesn’t care what dropped you into Hell. He only cares that you’re in Hell and that you’ll stay in Hell, stay with him. That’s all he’ll ever ask, but if you want to talk about your past in Heaven, he is all ears

Alastor, also, may not be perfect but he is doing his best to accept the reality that you had to lie to him and now that, you’re both cleared it up with one another. Now, you can be 100% honest with each other

Alastor is encouraging to you, encouraging you to let out your angelic origins and not be frightened by all the Sinners. Everybody in the Hotel knows you and Vaggie are from Heaven, just embrace it. He is embracing it one step at a time

“Oh… darling. I know I was quite harsh to you. I was just upset, I thought the man I loved was against me and I was trying to kill me from the inside. I understand you didn’t want to tell me and that’s okay… we’ll get through this little bump together”

The Hart Hotel is a more in-depth swap au following Alastor the (previous overlord) Radio demon and his venture into building a Hotel of rehabilitation. Alongside him is his best friend Anthony, famous pornstar Vaggie, and the princess of Hell herself, Charlotte Morningstar. Follow him and many others as the very foundations of Heaven and Hell are challenged with the singular question, "Can a sinner be redeemed?"

AU where *Vox* is the one who disappears for 7 years, and ALL of Hell suffers for it. The remaining 2 Vees end up with their souls contracted to Alastor, Carmilla and Zestial have to become allies and join forces-most overlords do by the time Vox comes back there ARE no solo Overlords left, except technically Rosie and Alastor but even they are 'allies' in the loosest sense. Everyone else is paired up and it all because of the madness of Radio Demon at the disappearance of his muse. He's shacked up inside of The Vees Tower, taking over Vox's floor as his own, adding a radio tower to the side of it.

And then, 7 years after his disappearance, Vox reappears and joins Charlie Morningstar at her hotel for rehabilitation of sinners of all things, with Angel Dust as her first client, and--

The very foundations of Hell shake.

OHHH this one is fun. yesyesyes im so onboard with this one!!! i think about swap aus very fondly no matter how many times i see premises where vox and al get their storylines swapped ill ALWAYS eat it up.

okay so i do have some questions i want to get over with first. did al and vox breakup before the whole. (waves hands) seven year leave thing. like did they fight before he left because that brings a wholly different dynamic to the table rather than 'oh vox just disappeared one day', which in fairness i can see driving alastor crazy in a much different way, but also if they'd fought beforehand and alastor had expected to see vox back with the vees the day after or something, only to find him missing with no one aware of where he was... hoo boy. and also- does alastor take over the entertainment district here? like, he's got val and velvette as contracted souls, so do they stop running the district because they can no longer hold the respect of those they were once under and just do menial tasks under al's servitude, or is there a completely different dynamic here that ive passed over?

anyway with that over with... (bashes my head into the wall) YES I NEED THIS. ohmuy god. the aus where vox is sponsoring the hazbin hotel because of a deal he made with lucifer or something have been haunting my head for weeks upon end and i cant help but imagine something similar here- i can just imagine how pissed alastor would be to learn of the fact that vox was back and didnt even think to go and SHOW HIMSELF to him first??? vox was HIS. his muse, his rival, his stupid, stupid picture box- and he went off to make a deal with that bright-faced, stupid little princess of hell? instead of going back to alastor? no, no, no, that cant do, absolutely not, VALENTINO, you have to get your oblivious little employee under control before i rip out both your throats-- anyway. i imagine al probably hates intearcting with either of the vees but he does to make sure theyre not dead or trying to kill him (its all for voxs sake. he wouldn't be glad to return and find his friends slaughtered, after all.)

sorry i dont really have any other thoughts to addonto this (theres a reason why i havent written/drawn a swap au with them and its because ive no idea how the story would change given all the different nuances that we dont yet know... so. yeah) except maybe that alastor would probably be pissed as hell at the attention vox gets when he returns- because he was a celebrity figure before he was gone, too, and his return is like the equivalent to a comeback on princess diana's revenge dress level. instead of being pissed that other sinners are paying attention to vox in a 'they should be looking at me' kind of way though he's more pissed in a 'no one should look at him except for me' kind of way which really weirds charlie vaggie and angel out who are kinda just going like... 'are you sure about that guy man' and vox just shrugs like 'well last time i was face to face with him we had a really bitter breakup fight so idek if hes sure about me tbh'

A SWAP AU???? IN THIS ECONOMY??? Yes

Okay so I was listening to the Caleb Hyles version of Happy Day in Hell and I thought of this so.... Prepare for an infodump under the cut!!

Alt title: an autistic person waffles about their hyperfixation for far too many words.

Alastor Morningstar: Taking the place of Charlie is Alastor— sadistic as ever and really only running the hotel out of spite.

In this AU, I imagine that Lucifer pulled a Percy Jackson Gods and had a kid with a mortal woman back in the early 1900s. The child that resulted was Alastor. An extremely powerful demon that after living on Earth was brought to Hell by Lucifer after orders from Heaven.

Inspired by his Mother, who always saw the good in people, he founded the Hazbin Hotel to prove that human souls were more capable than Heaven realized.

A majority of heaven thought this was insane and impossible: except for one person. Enter Vox.

Vox: Former Seraphim, sorta acted as Emily before Emily.

He heard about the hotel and thought it sounded like a great idea. He fought against Heaven over this. Eventually, after proving time and again that he wasn't so loyal once he knew about the exterminations, he was stripped of his status and cast into Hell.

Shortly after arriving, he came across Alastor, who saw this as an opportunity. If he could prove that a fallen angel could get back into heaven, than human souls could, too. So, he let Vox stay at the hotel.

Vox catches feelings. Bad. He fell fast and *hard*. But, of course, his romance gets sidelined by...

Charlie Morningstar: Lucifer's first child and the hostess of the hotel. She genuinely believes in the mission and wants to help her brother succeed, even if he's just doing it out of spite.

She helps the place get off the ground with commercials, meetings with Heaven, you name it. This includes getting staff.

Now, I don't have much for them right now, but here's pretty much how it goes:

Vaggie and Husk switch, Pentious and Nifty switch. Angel is still himself, mostly bc I couldn't find anyone to switch him with in good faith.

ANYWAY BACK TO IT

Vox keeps his history pretty quiet, considering that he feels like he's part of the reason the extermination happened and he knows damn well Alastor's position on heaven (he hates them for keeping him from his mother).

Charlie, being the sweetheart that she is figures it's not good to keep secrets and tells Alastor despite Vox telling her explicitly not to.

Vox is absolutely terrified that Alastor will hate him. Spoiler alert: he gets the closest thing to a kiss Alastor is ever gonna give anyone. (He lets Vox touch his ears) but to be clear, I am absolutely not trying to softboi either of them, they're fucked up and evil. Alastor frequently threatens the people in the hotel because he's tired of their bs.

I like role swaps of any kind, in most fandoms really. But something about Hazbin Hotel role swaps, Pilot style, are so funny to me.

Pilot style, to me, are the ones where you only have the characters from the pilot to work with. There’s so many of them floating around, since for four years that was all people have. And because of this, the story was turned into as follows-

Alastor, the Radio Demon Overlord, decides to open a hotel to redeem sinners. Helping him out is his good friend Angel Dust, who usually plays up more of the mafia aspect of his character. Their first guest is Vaggie, who is usually the porn star here. Then Princess of Hell, Charlie Morningstar comes along to help them out, bringing her bartender, Nifty, and her cleaning man, Husk.

(If I was doing this, seriously, I would probably make Husk be Alastor’s friend helping him out, and Nifty the first hotel resident while Princess Charlie brings in Vaggie and Angel, but that’s not the point of this pose!)

The point of this post, and what I find so hilarious to think about, is that if Alastor is still the Radio Demon Overlord, which he usually is, and Charlie is still the Princess of Hell, which she usually is, then you would have to make Vaggie still an angel!

Of course, of course, during the pilot we didn’t know that. But we do now! And can you imagine the hilarity, just imagine here, ok?

You open up a hotel to rehab sinners, ok? And you find one willing to work with you, even if it’s just for the free room and food. You brag about her on tv, in ads for your hotel, saying “Look, this will work! It will work on her!”

And then you find out that your first hotel resident is a god damn (no pun intended) angel! It doesn’t matter if she gets redeemed to the rest of hell- everyone will just be like “well, of course it worked on her? She started out in heaven!”

Can you imagine the horror? The long draw out shots that would occur if this was an actual episode? Like the one at the end of episode six, but worse, because the implications are so much worse lol

Anyway, I just think it’s a little funny is all

Hazbin Hotel Swap AU

So I've been seeing a lot of Hazbin Hotel swap AUs on my dash and I was thinking: What if I made my own?

So here it is!

Charlie -> Alastor

Vaggie -> Niffty

Alastor -> Vaggie

Niffty -> Charlie

Husk -> Angel Dust

Now the main way this AU works is that everyone's personality and backstory remains pretty much aligned with canon, though the necessary changes are made to make them more aligned with their new roles.

Essentially, Niffty takes the role of Charlie as the believer for redemption, her tendency to obsess over ideas eventually leading her into the creation of the Hazbin Hotel in hopes of getting demons into heaven (and maybe even herself one day).

Alastor is a bit more of a clear father figure to her in this AU and though he doesn't necessarily think that sinners can be redeemed, he'll be damned (pun intended) if he won't support Niffty through her newest fixation (basically Alastor acts as her body guard and main supporter, much like Vaggie for Charlie but in a familial, overprotective dad way).

Husk takes on the role of Angel Dust, though this time, he isn't really staying in the hotel because he wants to, but rather because Alastor (who still owns his soul) is threatening (read: forcing) him to. Here, Husk is a lot more obvious in his addictions to gambling and drinking, entertaining Niffty's attempts to rehabilitate him half-heartedly only to appease Alastor.

Charlie is still her bubbly self albeit much more involved in Hell and its politics as a more active princess. When she spots the hotel, she jumps at the idea for its potential to end the exterminations. Like Alastor, she inserts herself into the hotel (changing its name into the "Happy" Hotel) and pushing for it to work (much to the annoyance and suspicion of Alastor, making their relationship one with a bit more antagonism like that of Vaggie and Alastor).

With Charlie at the hotel and being so earnest about its success, Vaggie (still her girlfriend and openly an angel in this AU) also joins in her efforts, acting as the housekeeper instead of the bodyguard. She mostly does her best to keep the hotel clean and welcoming (because Alastor's style is not going to attract guests). Due to her status as an angel, the rest of the residents are a little apprehensive of her (like they were of Niffty), though because it isn't a secret, Vaggie is less cautious and less quick to anger/become defensive.

Hellaverse Theories: Hazbin Hotel S1E3

Welcome to Quilly’s Hellaverse Theories, where I overthink the entire Hellaverse! It’s been a little bit; life got busy, I have a semi-major medical procedure at the end of next week, and my reverse seasonal depression is hitting real hard this year, so let’s jump into the madness.

Starting tonight with s1e3!

Short diversion to say: Lucifer sending Charlie out into the world with Razzle and Dazzle (who can turn into dragons) and KeeKee (who appears to be a powerful tool of creation that Lucifer uses, though all the theories I’ve seen people swapping around say it’s something more integral to the hotel itself rather than to Lucifer, but just based on what’s in the show…sure looks like Lucifer gave away a heckin powerful magical artifact to his daughter) is sensible but also warms my heart so much. And I would love so much to know if that was Lucifer’s doing at all, or Lilith’s, or a joint venture from the both of them. I am so ready to learn more about their relationship without the Charlie Blinders on.

Y’know. There is a very strong trend I’m noticing about my own fiction preferences right now wherein a bubbly blond of privileged status undertakes an impossible task to make a difference in the places they choose to be, meet a colorful cast of queer characters, and continually fail while also somehow succeeding at the bigger and more important task of creating a space where a bunch of traumatized folks with a lot of baggage can feel safe to work through those issues and bond with each other and form wonderful found families. Charlie and Stede Bonnet from Our Flag Means Death would have a DELIGHTFUL afternoon tea of swapping lesson plans, is what I’m saying.

(And Angel and Lucius would probably have a field day swapping stories but anyway)

Charlie and Vaggie’s relatively harsh sex-negative attitudes strike me as unusual for the show, which IMO itself has a pretty sex-neutral to sex-positive stance, depending on the angle. It begins to make more sense with a later episode and I’m sure I’ll talk more about this then, but in case I forget: they both appear to be operating off of what they THINK is the standard for getting into Heaven, which…is baloney because NOBODY knows how a soul gets into Heaven (and once they’re there they still bone with frequency and impunity, or at least Adam does). But if you’re going off the basic Christian-centric idea of sin, I can see where Charlie and Vaggie are coming from. Though Vaggie should know a little better what the Heavenly culture is like around those kinds of things, but tbh until we get more information, my assumption is that Vaggie hung around Exorcists pretty exclusively and they seem like a separate class entirely from other angels, if their jobs are a secret from the rest of Heaven and they purposely go into battle fully helmed. They’re two sheltered girls without a clue.

(The way Charlie turned out does make me heavily question what Lilith was actually like and how she expected Charlie to act. I want to KNOW dangit.)

Zestialllllll. I adore him. And I adore that he is, outside of Lucifer, most likely the most ancient being in Hell that we see. Certainly he’s the oldest sinner, and given that there are at least three methods of regular mortal turnover in Hell, that makes his very existence highly impressive. He’s survived hundreds of years of Overlord politics, turf wars, and Exterminations (assuming they’ve been going on for a while, GIVE ME A NUMBER VIVIENNE I NEED TO KNOW), and is so well known that people SET THEMSELVES ON FIRE to get away from him and Alastor walking together down the street. And Alastor gives him something much closer to actual deference, as opposed to what he gives the literal ruler of Hell next episode (a high-charged rivalry anthem on par with Loathing from Wicked, how have I not seen anyone do an edit or a comic of that one yet).

“Some have spun tales of you falling to holy arms.” Followed by Alastor pulling a major bluff, complete with shifty eyes. So Zestial’s information isn’t entirely inaccurate. Which still means just about anyone could be holding the other end of Alastor’s leash, but the major theories of it being Lilith (my personal favorite but also too easy and coincidental, feels like a red herring) or Eve (bound up somehow with Roo, I can just feel it) still feel most plausible to me. This could be foreshadowing and Zestial is wrong, since Alastor does nearly die due to holy arms in the finale, but…those shifty eyes. Zestial is definitely close, guessing a little too near the mark for Alastor’s comfort. What the HECKIE happened that put the Radio Demon and the Queen of Hell down for the count for the same amount of time? It is MADDENING. The incidents are obviously related, but how did that end with Alastor showing back up in Hell and Lilith up in Heaven?

(My cracked fanfic writer brain just went “Lilith decided she was done and passed her Queen duties to the deer man, Lucifer just found out he’s essentially married in power to Alastor, now discuss” but that is getting stuffed to the back of the mental closet where I will only ponder it late at night when I need a good giggle. Especially because it’s far more plausible that if Alastor and Lilith have any kind of deal whatsoever, it has to do with guiding and helping Charlie.)

(…could it be possible that Lilith’s deal with Adam involved trading Alastor somehow? Unlikely, since Adam had no idea who Alastor was, but Alastor being used as a pawn instead of being a major player would be such a delicious burden for his arrogant ass to bear and I kinda want to see it.)

Anyway.

Seeing an Overlord meeting is so fascinating, because watching Velvette come in and immediately challenge Carmilla and Zestial very much establishes something of a generation gap; the oldest Overlords in the room versus the youngest. But before I get ahead of myself and how BRILLIANTLY MANIPULATIVE Velvette is, a little stage-setting: no Overlords appear to have the same business dealings as the Vees, though there is genuine friendship between some of them (Carmilla and Zestial, Alastor and Rosie). No Overlords are locking horns at this meeting before Velvette shows up, no hint of political undercurrents or rivalries. The Overlords in the room are also high-rollers, it seems, the more powerful of the bunch, if only SIX of them own MILLIONS of souls. However, there are some hints after Velvette’s musical number to further shed some light on what Hellish politics are like, but before she comes in, all seems fine. Alastor gets his pride wounded (much to my personal amusement), but overall it’s perfectly civil.

Enter that hashtag bitch.

Her entire performance from top to bottom is a calculated strategy. Step one, show up late, ruffle some feathers with her lack of decorum, make it very clear up front that she’s showing up despite having better things to do. Put Carmilla on the back foot right away. But Carmilla is a professional; she’s a ballerina, used to dancing around her opponents. Step two, pull out the angel’s head and keep a close eye on Carmilla’s reaction, and start to push when Velvette meets immediate resistance to her “full assault plan” (I will eat my hat if they had such a thing at all; the three of them are safe in their fancy tower and they know it, and Velvette attending this meeting was never about the Vees working together with other Overlords at all). Step three: annihilate the meeting, push Carmilla into either admitting what she did and starting an uproar across all of Hell or shutting down the discussion before it can come to light, and the result is: the Overlords don’t actually sit down and make a plan about what to do about this accelerated Extermination. The Vees’ power remains unchallenged as the other Overlords scramble to keep theirs. Velvette planned this from the beginning.

The lyrics in the finale number confirm it, too “After the battle, masterless cattle, Overlords hanging by a thread…nature abhors a power vacuum, it leaves room for you and me. The future of Hell belongs to the Vees.” What better way to secure power than making sure your enemies can’t organize, even if it isn’t against you at first? The Vees are formidable, practically untouchable, because they work together. They can’t have other Overlords doing the same thing, because uniting against one seemingly impossible threat and succeeding has ripple effects. It becomes easier to unite against other threats. And if every other Overlord in Hell decided to band together to take down the Vees, the Vees wouldn’t win that encounter. Much easier to let Overlords’ natural distrust of each other continue to keep them alone and vulnerable while the Vees work in the background to take advantage of that vulnerability.

The Vees are a union-busting corporate tech giant monopoly, is what I’m saying.

Side note about character design: Velvette and Carmilla and Carmilla’s daughters all having very similar, if not the same, eye design is fascinating, but I’m not sure if it denotes a connection between them, since they also have the same eye design as hellhounds (seen more in Helluva Boss but there are a few in the background of Hazbin Hotel), and I’m not sure what to make of that tbh. Though Velvette being a doll and the Carmines being ballet-themed, possibly music box ballerina themed, does strike me as interesting too.

Okay, Zestial’s response: “Mightn’t they purge all of Hell for daring an uprising?” He’s the oldest guy in the room. He’s the most cautious, the most cunning, and one of the most powerful Overlords in that room, so probably in all of Hell. And what he just said is EXACTLY why the Exterminations are happening in the first place. Which begs the question: do the sinners know why Exterminations happen? Charlie knows, or at least knows a version of the story; Zestial being so ancient and also throwing out this incredibly obvious possibility that is already currently happening…I’m not sure if this is a writing continuity error or a hint that Exterminations have been happening for longer than Zestial has been around, so long that the original reason for it is lost to time for those who weren’t old enough to be there. The cautious way that Zestial and Carmilla are determined to stop Hell from trying to go to open war against Heaven makes me think that even if they don’t know the reason for the Exterminations, they’re smart enough to guess, and to want to keep their heads down and their people as safe as they can possibly be during a yearly bloodbath.

Also it continues to beg the question of why Lucifer “granted a pardon” to the Hellborn in the first place, if it was so long ago that Charlie probably didn’t exist yet, because a Hellborn sanction wouldn’t protect Lilith. She isn’t Hellborn. Technically neither is Lucifer, but I assume they figured that as an angel, even a fallen one, he wasn’t going to be in any danger anyway (since it apparently took ten thousand years for them to figure out on a wider scale that angelic steel kills angels too) (though it wouldn’t surprise me if the Seraphim all knew and just didn’t say anything). I’m rambling now but hOW LONG, VIV. HOW LONG HAVE THE EXTERMINATIONS BEEN GOING. I’M GOING TO START SCRAWLING ON THE WALLS.

“That was a productive meeting!” Okay, that’s my indication that expecting anything actually useful from this was probably a high bar to reach, but Velvette throwing an angelic bomb in the mix and then working Carmilla up to a bloody froth didn’t help, either. Overlords don’t collaborate, they don’t band together, they don’t share power. Even the Vees’ brand is held together with a lot of mutual self-interest and each one of them thinking that they’re the top of the operation. Though, personally, with this one scene, my money is on Velvette for being the top of that particular dogpile. Since. Y’know. She just single-handedly destroyed any chance of the Overlords working together to try and protect Hell.

(Also please tell me there’s at least one fanfic out there where the Hotel crew actually gives BDSM a shot. I don’t need to read it; I just need to know it exists. With a more nuanced and fair view of what professional BDSM is that isn’t just “weird deviant sex.”)

I can also see why a lot of people think Carmilla is a fallen angel when she’s placed so very obviously in narrative parallel with Vaggie. Part of me thinks this is merely foreshadowing to Carmilla becoming Vaggie’s mentor, because Carmilla being an Overlord and having daughters both seem like things that angels don’t do (and Carmilla’s daughters sharing physical similarities with her indicates to me that they might not be adopted daughters, but perhaps her actual daughters from life, since Sinners can’t reproduce). But there are plenty of little tidbits that would lend themselves to Carmilla being a fallen angel as well, such as the winged shape of her face markings and her general coloration being similar to Exorcists. Not to mention her deep knowledge of how to beat them, but that could very well be the decades or even centuries of observance Carmilla would have gotten in as one of the few demons willingly out during an Extermination Day. I lean towards Not, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she was, either. (How Carmilla and Vaggie both speak Spanish if they were both once angels is another question I want answered, tbh, but that could be something as simple as Heaven/Hell being multicultural by design and maybe they just sort of picked it up. But that doesn’t feel right tbh.)

“I just thought this would all be easier.” OH HELLO MAJOR THEME OF THE SHOW. Charlie’s naivete can be so charming sometimes, but so deeply saddening other times. Watching her grow up and start to shed some of that is a satisfying and subtle character arc and I can’t wait to keep watching her go.

Pentious having minions that have nothing to do with his power makes me more inclined to think that the little creatures that Alastor summons are souls he owns, but again, there’s literally no way to tell just by watching the show right now. Sigh.

Okay, only took two hours to get through this episode, so let’s take another two for the next one! It’ll be fine!

In Case you Need it

Probably the first-ever Voona fanfiction! I’m happy to write it. This is the first meeting between Loona and Vaggie.

Pairings:

Loona x Vaggie (Voona)

Charlie x Alastor (implied)

(warnings for implied infidelity and language throughout the story)

It was the hotel's first open house event, a night planned by Alastor as a means of gaining benefactors and possible residents. It was a good idea, Vaggie had to admit it. But, the extensive planning had taken up most of her girlfriend's time leading up to the night, not that Charlie seemed to mind in the slightest. Happy staying up late with the deer demon planning menus or making the invitations ‘for the good of the hotel!’ Vaggie wasn’t blind.

Even tonight, Charlie had been whisked away by the radio demon the moment she and Vaggie had walked into the ballroom to finish setting up. “I need your opinion on some of the music choices, my dear. It’ll be just a moment,” as he pulled her away from Vaggie’s side. But, one task led to another, and by the time the event had started, Alastor and Charlie were busy speaking with possible benefactors and residents, standing side by side as they pitched the hotel with practice ease. They looked so in tune with one another, the way Charlie leaned into him ever so slightly as Alastors arm snaked around her waist. Vaggie wasn’t stupid.

Never one for big events, Vaggie often preferred to stay back from the crowds and let Charlie handle all of the conversations. Now that she was left alone, all she could do is sit at a table and watch as her girlfriend and Alastor spoke to a tall owl-like demon, who cooed in laughter as the Radio Demon undoubtedly told a terrible joke, it was enough to make Charlie laugh though.

It churned the moth demons stomach to see them like that, looking away with a scoff as she downed the rest of her root beer. Tempted to ask Husk for a rum and coke so she could play dumb to the sight of her girlfriend getting charmed away from her.

“Ya got a cigarette?” A smooth voice asked from behind her, jarring Vaggie from her thoughts enough to get her to turn around to see who was speaking to her. Sitting in the next chair over was a large female hellhound, mostly snow-white with dusty grey accents and silver hair. Her piercing scarlet eyes looking at Vaggie with an expectant yet distasteful look of indifference. Vaggie must have been staring for a beat too long because the hellhound rolled her eyes as she waved a gloved hand with a huff. “Yo, you with the eyepatch. I asked if you had a cigarette.”

Vaggie tried to hide the blush creeping across her face at the realization she had been staring at the women in front of her, quickly looking down at her empty cup as she cleared her throat. “N-no sorry. I don’t smoke. Besides, there’s no smoking allowed inside the hotel.”

The response was enough to make the she-hound let out an exaggerated groan, dropping her cheek into her hand as she planted her elbow firmly on the table with a growl. “Suuuper. Thanks for nothing.” She mumbled, piercing a meatball from her plate with a long nail and popping it into her mouth. Before wiping the remnants of the sauce unceremoniously on her halter top. “I’m so fucking bored, I’d rather blow my brains out.”

The remark was enough to bring Vaggie in to continue the conversation, a little offended that this random hellhound was unimpressed with the event her girlfriend had taken so long to plan. “Well, if you’re so bored, why don’t you just leave? Instead of stinking up the venue with all that negativity.” The demoness muttered, glaring at the other women as she stared off towards Alastor and Charlie- who were still speaking with the owl demon.

“My dad wanted me to come... said his sugar daddy wanted him here and he didn’t want to be left alone with the bird brain.” She added as she gazed over at an imp who was standing a few feet away with a drink, reading something on his phone. But it was unmistakable that the owl demon kept looking back at the imp to make sure he hadn’t walked away, giving little waves or smirks that the imp would repay in the same manner. Only to scowl once the owl turned away.

“Wait wait... your dad is dating that Stolas demon? Doesn’t he have like... a wife and daughter?” Vaggie asked, looking between Stolas and the imp with a shocked expression.

“You didn’t hear that from me though,” The hellhound replied with a smirk, looking back at Vaggie as the moth demon burst out laughing at the news. She waited for Vaggie’s laughter to die down before continuing to speak. “What about you, what are you doing here?”

Vaggie wiped a tear from her good eye, still chuckling to herself as she fought to gain her composure. “Oh, I live at the hotel. My girlfriend runs the place and I help were with it.” She pointed back to the group in question, just in time to see Alastor pull Charlie away for a dance, chuckling something to her that made a blush creep across her pale cheeks. The display was enough to sour Vaggie’s mood once again, making her look down at the table with a sigh.

The hellhounds words certainly didn’t help the situation as she followed Vaggie’s gaze back over to Alastor and Charlie. “Seriously? I thought Ms. Sunshine and rainbows were fucking smiles over there.” She said matter of factly, raising an eyebrow in surprise as she turned back to Vaggie with a simple shrug, “Looks like you might have some trouble in paradise.”

Vaggie wanted to give a stinging retort to the brash statement, say something to shut this stupid dog up at the mere mention that her girlfriend was anything less than faithful. But, the more she looked at the pair dancing in front of her, the way they worked so effortlessly with one another, she doubted the idea more and more. “Looks like it…” She muttered.

The hellhound didn’t give anything away from how she looked between the moth demon in front of her and the pair on the dancefloor. Pausing for a few moments before finally speaking again. “Shit girl… I was just kidding but if that might really be happening that’s some bullshit. I don’t like what my dad’s doing with feather dick over there, but at least his wife is blind to it all. To see it happening right in front of you… that must really suck.”

Vaggie was surprised for any amount of sympathy coming from the hellhound, in hell of all places she expected to just be laughed at. Looking up, she saw the she-wolf get up from her seat across the table to sit beside Vaggie, her long tail curling around the moth demons seat as the hound continued to speak.

“I was cheated on in the past, it really fucking hurt. But, I taught that limp dick a lesson for messing with me, one he won’t ever forget. Not saying that’s a good idea in this case, because the Radio Demon would kill ya before you got anywhere near them. But, there are probably other ways to get back that them.” She offered, resting her hand on her chin in contemplation.

“I don’t want revenge like that, she’s probably not doing anything anyway. I’m just being paranoid.” Vaggie dismissed, waving her hand to try and change the subject. “I… I don’t think I got your name, by the way.”

“It’s Loona,” she said absentmindedly as she continued to think about the ways Vaggie could get back at the pair. “My dad owns an assassination business, he could help you come up with something,” Loona said, smiling at the realization.

“Like I said, I don’t think I need revenge. I’m probably overthinking things and they’re just being friendly with each other.” The moth demon countered, holding up her hand towards Loona with a smile. “I’m Vaggie, it’s nice to meet you Loona.”

Loona pulled herself from her thoughts to turn back to face Vaggie, with a cool smile she wrapped her hand around the other demoness’ and gave a soft handshake. “Yeah, nice to meet you. Hey, Look. I know you said you wouldn’t need it but-”

Loona pulled her hand away pull her cellphone from her pocket, opening it up to her contacts. “Lets swap numbers, in case you ever end up needing that assassination job. I’m the receptionist at my dad’s business so I could hook you up.”

Not seeing a way around the question, Vaggie smiled and handed her phone over to the hellhound before taking hers. They each put their numbers into the other's phone, confirming they got it right before Loona stood up from the table. “Well, it was nice chatting with you Vaggie, but I’m gonna drag my dad out of here and I’m going to go get drunk at home.” Without waiting for a reply, Loona walked off to get the imp and leave.

Vaggie waved her off, watching Loona as she and the imp walked out of the ballroom. Loona looking back at Vaggie to return a curt wave for she was out of sight. Not the encounter Vaggie was expecting, but any decent demon was a welcomed change for her.

Swap AU:

Charlie and Vaggie both know That Vox is there on Lucifer's behalf, but once they see Vox freak out because of Alastor's Shadow (Alastor took over the Shadow and was gently petting Vox's rabbit ears (just how sleepy Vox likes it), before he spoke through the radio to Vox, saying I love you.) Causing the overlord to have a panic attack and blow the power in half of pride. So Vaggie actually gets pretty overprotective of Vox, seeing Alastor as Vox's Adam.

This panic attack is also what allows Husker and Vox to setup their contracted souls and they start building outside of the hotel. Little restaurants, and a gambling joint (where the biggest prize is TVs you don't have to rent, which Charlie thinks is pretty awesome. Not even Nobles have their own TVs, so this will definitely bring in the spotlight for the hotel!) One of the surviving contracted souls of Vox's is a goetia, who can go to earth, and Vox uses them have the hotel offer earthly goods.

At the overlord meeting...since the remaining Vees are contracted Overlords, they aren't invited. Only Alastor and Rosie can come for the Entertainment District and Cannibal town. Vox is on a high dose of (I think it's Xanax they give you for this? I know it's what they gave me to take during my flights because of the anxiety for flying so I'm guessing it may be the same idk) meds so he can get through the meeting unfortunately, Husker can only sit on one of his sides....Who takes the other seat beside Vox? Why Alastor of course.

Who catches Vox's hand with his own under the table, giving it a squeeze and rubbing his thumb over Vox's pulse point in his wrist while Carmilla talks.

While Husk brings up the Angel's head, and points out it could be the cause of the second extermination coming up, Vox is beginning to slowly freak out. He's glad when Carmilla and Zestial say the meeting is over, and he stands up about to jerk his hand away--when Alastor kisses it, murmuring "I'm sorry, my beloved. I'll see you soon." And Husk hisses, grabbing Vox and they hurry back to the hotel.

Vox leaves the lights on in his room that night, but it doesn't stop Alastor from visiting, and covering his precious picture box up with the softest blanket he can conjure....and he also spots the large Cyan scar on Vox's chest, and tears fill the deer demons eyes--he hadn't ment too, he thinks claws digging into his palms. Never you Vox....it'll never happen again. Once I have your soul under my hand no one will hurt you again...myself included. You'll be safe right beside me, where you belong.
