I wanted a higher quality image of the photo, so I pulled up the scene with the photograph on a tv and took a picture with my phone.

Then I color picked from three different spots on Vox’s sweater (2 along the brighter strip and 1 along the darker strip) and 2 from his line art (one near his blue jacket, one near his sweater). From Val I picked 2 from the flat color of his wing, and 1 from his line art on the cuff near his wing. All colors were picked from the same shadowed section of the photograph. Fig. 1

Disclaimer: the color picking was difficult due to the pixelation generate by the tv screen. If tumblr doesn’t eat the quality and you zoom in, you’ll notice that all the colors are in pixel “cells” with the center being the brightest and the edges ranging from dark to black. Fig. 2

With this pixelation in mind, I tried my best to color pick between the center and the edge and get an approximation of what the color would look like to our eyes after zooming out/blending together. (Attempts to take an actual blended version of the colors resulted in the brighter strips on Vox’s sweater losing the vibrancy and becoming muddied by the darker edges of the pixel’s cells.)

For comparison with OP’s picked colors, I picked additional colors from Vox and Val near where OP had taken them.

Analysis: the colors picked from this picture are significantly brighter than the colors OP picked, likely due to the nature of the pixelation. Vox’s line-art ranges from dark red-purple to a desaturated dark red. Val’s line art closely matches Vox’s dark red-purple line art. The darker strip going down the center of Vox’s sweater is darker than the two strips next to is but significantly light/more saturated than the two colors picked from Vox’s line art. The lighter strip to the right is significantly brighter than both other colors picked from Vox’s sweater. The lighter strip on the left is lighter than the strip in the middle, darker than the strip on the right, and is slightly brighter than but still matches the colors picked from Val’s wing.

Conclusion: the darker strip of color down the middle of Vox’s sweater does not match with the colors picked from line art and is therefore likely not a faded thin black line but is actually just a darker shade of red. The two brighter strips of color on either side do not match, but this is likely due to lighting within the photograph itself, with the strip on the right being in the light and the strip on the left being closer to Vox’s arm and therefore in the shadows, similar to Val’s wing. Vox is therefore wearing a red sweater that matches with Val’s wings with darker red vertical stripes.

i've done a few posts on alastor being aroace -- what kind of potentials exist because of being aroace, what kind of semiotics already exist in the show and what more could be added, alastor and aroace loneliness and one on alastor and touch

a lot of this explores how alastor in some ways is set apart from the other main characters on the show, because he's different (and not because he likes murder and mayhem, plenty of people on the show enjoy that, after all - if anything that's a relatively normative trait in hell), but because of how he views people, society, relationships, and how he's incredibly afraid of being seen as vulnerable in a very specific way, so there's a mix of walls he's put up to protect himself and also just... who he is, and what he values

anyway, should do a post on the opposite thing to the ways alastor (deliberately, and due to the society around him) is at a distance from others, instead write something about alastor and closeness, alastor and how he shows respect, alastor and how he shows he enjoys others' company, alastor and connection, alastor and how he (potentially) cares, that looks into what he's shown so far on the show

things to think about, although it's early days in the story yet and i wonder if i should wait until s2 drops for more data

the #radio silence tagging problem in the hazbin fandom

said I would make a more eye-catching psa about this, here it is

**although #radiosilence WITHOUT the space is better than #radio silence with the space, I would still like to discourage it, will elaborate later

and 90% of the time, they will listen and change accordingly.

and oh yeah. about that book.

Why shouldn't #radio silence be used?

Radio Silence is the name of a book set in the heartstopper universe by alice oseman.

(which also features a canon aspec character, pictured on the right: aled last!)

and as such: #radio silence is their MAIN FANDOM tag. it is inconsiderate to flood their tag with content from another fandom, especially one as popular as hazbin hotel. but unfortunately, this is something that is already happening because of radiosilence as a ship tag.

and if you're not convinced this is something that bothers radio silence fans, here's some input from the fans themselves:

Wait, so is #radiosilence without the space still fine to use?

it's better than the mistagging of #radio silence with the space. but ONLY on tumblr, because on tumblr, we're allowed the privilege of adding spaces to tags.

I still would like to discourage it though, because for as long as this tag is popularly in use, there will constantly be people mistagging it with a space. I've done what I could to nudge people to fix their tagging but I can't constantly keep this up.

plus, on other sites such as tiktok and twitter, #radiosilence IS literally the main tag for the book because you literally can't add spaces for tags on those sites. so the radio silence book fandom is likely even more drowned out on those sites than here on tumblr because of the popularisation of #radiosilence as a tag for one-sided radiostatic.

I will not be forcing anyone to ditch #radiosilence without the space as a tag though, especially when it's already so popularly used and essentially impossible to get everyone to change it, but I encourage you to go for other options if you are willing to such as:

#onewaybroadcast

decided via a poll last month that was ongoing before #radiosilence was initially popularised, held by ChaoticAce2005 and me.

it's the tag that I always use for one-sided radiostatic and is decently used by others as well! and you won't run into any issue with clashing with the radio silence/osemanverse fandom at all this way. but again, I will not force you, all I ask is that AT THE VERY LEAST, don't tag #radio silence with the space and to nudge others to change it if they do.

please help to silence the radio silence tag!

(the tagging issue on tiktok and twitter are outside of my jurisdiction as I don't engage with hazbin on twitter and I don't even use tiktok, but if possible, it would be appreciated if anyone is able to spread the alternate tag #onewaybroadcast on those sites too to discourage flooding the radio silence book fandom! I believe the original person to coin #radiosilence has been doing work to discourage it on tiktok too, any help is appreciated!)

I finally decided to try out making a simple paper animation, but I never thought I would be able to do it from the first time on paper, even in digital it wasn't very easy for me. (I really need to revisit this AU, but I can imagine Alastor trying to do something about the magic and it backfiring, horribly. He spends a month trying to fix it. The other residents don’t know why he’s so upset when they tell him they think he’s a pretty good guy. Alternatively, in an attempt to keep his Street Cred in tact, Alastor makes an elaborate plan to betray the hotel. The magic in the hotel comes to life and then kicks him out onto the streets until he reconsiders.)

To be fair though, the hotel’s magic is already kinda betraying him by exposing his soft side to the other residents, lol. I dunno if the magic/hotel itself is sentient enough for a conscious betrayal, but I could definitely that happening.

god this will probably be the only time I say this because I don't like using the tag to begin with but if you want to tag #radiosilence for one-sided radiostatic, PLEASE, at the very least, don't include a space. type it as one word: #radiosilence. I already take issue with the tag as it is but in tagging #radio silence, with the space, you're using and flooding the main tag that is supposed to be for the alice oseman book "radio silence" (which also has a canon aspec character apparently!)

please let people from that fandom have their tag without being flooded with hazbin hotel I am begging you

“Is that a kid?” Husk asked dumbly. This was the first child he’d seen in—years, easily. Probably at least a decade or more. And, in Alastor’s living room of all places? Listening to his damn nightmare broadcast? All he could manage to utter was one question: “Why?” “That is a good question, my dear Husker!” “...You have no idea, do you?” The widening of Alastor’s grin was answer enough. --- Children are a rare in the Pride Ring, especially as sinners. What sorts of deeds in their short lives would lead a child to be cast into Hell? While Alastor never particularly cared for children, he's always been a bit curious about that, and about how growing up in Hell would impact their mental development. So when he stumbles upon one who doesn't seem too annoying, he decides observing her might make for some good entertainment. After all, how many children can tell you about intestines but have no clue what an angel is? AKA: Alastor finds a child and proceeds to revel in the chaos that comes with it.

The second version is closer in coloration to the reference drawing, but I'm pretty happy with them both :)

No but I still find it incredibly funny that for every episode in which Valentino is a major feature, Alastor is just completely MIA.

Val is like an Alastor repellent. The shear threat of his presence is enough to keep Alastor away from an episode.

Alastor’s Aroace radar starts going off and he immediately makes himself scarce.

He probably sensed that episode 3 was gonna feature a bdsm scene and that’s why he went to the overlord meeting with the Egg Bois.

Vox is only alive rn because he’s not worth the effort for Alastor to hunt down and kill but also because he lives with Val and Alastor refuses to be in the same episode as him for any longer than necessary.

Alastor and the supernatural ability to nope the fuck out of any and all Situations.
