Manny’s Broken Horn Theories
Now that we know that Manny will get some kind of focus episode(s) in the near future, I’ll jot down some of my theories on how his left horn got broken.
Established Facts
Some information courtesy of Shea Fontana’s Twitter that will help inform these theories:
Manny “was raised by his grandmoo and grandbull”
Manny wants to be a veterinarian
Upcoming episodes will reveal that some currently established characters have invisible disabilities
Manny’s new iteration was designed with a conscious effort not to equate being large with being a jerk
Theories
Currently, the theory I find most likely is that Manny was involved in some kind of accident or targeted attack that both broke his horn and killed his parents, thus explaining why he’s been raised by his grandparents. This incident could have thus left him with lasting trauma that gives him nightmares, which could be something Twyla sees and helps him with when she enters his dreams in “Boogey Nightmare”. As seen with Lagoona’s strained family, the show isn’t averse to portraying unfortunate familial circumstances that real kids that watch the show have to live with, so having lost both of one’s parents fits in my opinion. Maybe the accident/attack somehow involved an animal (the equivalent of hitting a deer?), and it ties into his desire to be a veterinarian?
Second theory is that Manny’s effeminate mannerisms (you all saw the way he ran does the stairs and squeed in “The Case of the Missing Squeak”) made his father abuse him for not being masculine enough, to the point of breaking his horn. Eventually his father lost custody and Manny lived with his grandparents since. I find this theory less likely because it feels a bit too much for the show to delve into, even with the above point (especially with how Toralei’s mother & Heath’s fathers are most certainly getting improvement arcs, so an unredeemed abuser feels out of place).
Least compelling & interesting theory was just that Manny was bullied by monsters even bigger than him and they broke his horn. Shrug.
This is an outdated theory now that I’ve gotten to see Manny some more and learned that he was specifically designed with a conscious effort not to equate being large with being a jerk, but I figure I’d include it here for AU fuel and posterity: in the past, Manny used to be more like his G1 counterpart, a bully. Eventually he got into a fight with someone that could hit back, and his horn was broken. After some kind of wake-up call, he turned himself around and became a kind academic.

ur post about queerbaiting and the dismissal of people in fandom to critical analysis is so incredibly true thank you. i feel like marcille's writing in the anime has been super misogynistic a lot of the time and every time i bring this up all anyone wants to say is "well maybe this isn't for you! and you shouldn't watch the show!" like. i don't think this is about taste lmao, i am analyzing the text in front of me and coming to conclusions about the craft of it.

It's like being at a restaurant and being served a bunch of delicious appetizers, but then one of the bread appetizers is literally just a plate of crumbs; and then when you're like, "Hey, uhh, why are we being served literal crumbs?", a bunch of the other folks eating at the restaurant are like,
"WELL HOW ABOUT YOU JUST DON'T EAT HERE THEN??!? YOU MUST NOT BE THAT HUNGRY, SO JUST FIND ANOTHER RESTAURANT AND DON'T EAT WITH US!!"
And maybe they say it politely, but "Aw, sorry, maybe this restaurant just isn't for you 💖" is just trading out an aggressive dismissive tone for a patronizing dismissive tone. It's the same message.
And it's like! I was honestly happy to move on from the crumbs once my complaint was acknowledged because the meal overall is still delicious, but then all these folks got SUPER WEIRD AND DEFENSIVE ABOUT IT, so now I find myself double-checking all the other dishes -- and, actually, you know what those eggs DO look a Iittle misogynistic undercooked!!!!

I'm rewatching s6 and overall I still feel it's a very solid season and generally rather enjoyable, and it gave us two of the best episodes this show has ever made, but waiting for Buck and Eddie to interact is like wandering for miles through a desert, only to collapse on the showrunners' front porch begging for reprieve, just to receive a drop of water and a pat on the head as they drop kick you back out into the desert. It's rough is what I'm saying. holy shit.
#like SHEESH#buck and eddie have a magnetizing and key relationship in the show so it's just. weird when it's not there#like having barely any madney scenes in s5. there's a certain je ne sais quoi missing from two characters who just have amazing chemistry#idk it just changes the viewing experience for me. like this show is all about the emotional connection and depth bw characters#and buck and eddie add such a thicc layer of emotion and vulnerability that is oh so tantalizing regardless if you ship them or not#not a bad season but this lack of interaction is just Felt#k spirals

“It never gets easier,” Leader said, “seeing them go. You think about their bravery, their selflessness, and you think, ‘How unfair?’ It’s never easy to grieve them.”
Sidekick nodded along as they watched Hero’s casket lower into the ground. “How do you get through it?” Leader was old- a mentor to tens of heroes before Hero, and Sidekick could never imagine living through so much sorrow.
“You understand it, then you come to terms with it. None of them died in vain, but they would if we were to deny their deaths. You must face it,” Leader explained. “Only then can you honor them.”
“Do you think the villains ever regret killing our heroes?” After seeing so many people at the funeral, even Sidekick felt guilty. For what, they weren’t sure. It felt like they could have done something- could have asked what Hero was up to before they left base so suddenly.
Leader’s eyes never strayed from their neutral squint, but they found Sidekick’s eyes. “I think villains have a cause of their own, and though our heroes’ deaths are necessary to them, they grieve the messages they failed to send with their deaths.”
“Will we ever find them?” Sidekick asked. “The messages the villains can’t send?”
Looking back to the arch of the lid, Leader watched Hero disappear beneath the dirt. They let out a breath. “What do you define a villain as?”
It was a change of subject, but Sidekick thought about it. “Someone evil. Someone who kills. Someone hopeless. Someone who has stopped caring about happy endings.” They could ramble on and on.
With a hum, Leader said, “Maybe you’re right.” The funeral company was lessening, leaving Leader, Sidekick, the and gravediggers among polished headstones. “You can never be sure, can you? Some of them have everything they could ever want, and that is precisely why they turn to villainy. Imagine,” they said, “never having to fight for anything at all. How miserable.” As if they felt Sidekick’s curious stare, they defended, “I don’t condone villainy, of course.” They shrugged. “But I understand it.”
As the dirt was beat flat atop Hero’s casket, Sidekick asked, “What happens now, then?”
Hero was gone, and in their place, no one volunteered their bravery. Villain was loose with no one to stop them.
“Someone else will arise. They’ll listen to our villains, they’ll understand, and like every hero before them, they’ll die.”
Wise. That’s what Leader was supposed to be, but speaking to them now, Sidekick was only confused. Why did Leader expect every hero to die?
“What if I became the next hero of the city?”
“You wouldn’t deserve that,” they remarked. “But I know someone who does.”

I saw your jack sparrow cosplay and i swear i was fooled.MATE YOU GOTTA BE THE MOST JACK SPARROW LOOKING DUDE IF I EVER SEEN ONE THAT COSPLAY WAS ON POINT
Thank you so much! Dressing up as Captain Jack has to be my favourite costume I've worn so far, his outfit has so many details and pieces that I've had fun recreating and getting.
Especially both the waistcoat, shirt and sash I had fun weathering too! I like to think it's my Mark 1 version as I plan on upgrading as I go such as the boots and breeches especially. I've just recently finished making the scabbard for my sword so I can finally take it to my next con in three weeks! I'll definitely make another cosplay photo dump to post after the weekend is done.
Though walking into the women's bathroom dressed as a guy was a very anxious experience for me to be honest. 😂

Just saw a post that was like "couples in rwby become canon when they hold hands as the scene's emotional focal point" and I'm just ???
Like I'd be far more lenient on this point if there was no kissing at all. Capcom games, as far as I'm aware, have zero kisses across the board even among canon couples. The closest I've seen is the ending of Devil May Cry 4 when Nero and Kyrie lean into each other before getting interrupted by demons. It's basically a running gag at this point
Not to mention the lead up and chemistry between characters are miles ahead of anything rwby attempts. You expect me to be impressed by lackluster, flaccid "canonizing" moments after witnessing Jake "Fuck you, I only care about money" Muller stare at Sherry like she hung the stars and saying in the most worshipful tone "You saved me... Thank you" as they ride a cart out of an exploding factory? And then to emphasize how much Sherry impacted him, Jake changes his asking price from $50 million per pint of his unique antibodied blood to a motorcycle and $50 for gas
Meanwhile, I didn't even realize that Nora still had feelings for Ren until V6 with the "Give me back my man" line, and Ren never showed any indication of being into Nora at all which is why the V7 conversation and kiss came out of the blue. Nor did Jaune ever show any romantic intent towards Pyrrha. These romances start and end at their kisses

re lrb i still think about that phone call. it was really one of those "it could be anyone you know" reminders. like how your sweet aunt who always cooks delicious food and gives the biggest hugs still has a warped-enough worldview to believe that not everyone deserves healthcare. the neighbor who always waves hello and encourages you to ask if you ever need anything turns out to be an anti-immigrant M*GA-hatter. a friendly coworker who enjoys your company and got you a gift without prompting turns out to be so brainwashed by zi0nist propaganda that they cant even refer to p*lestinians as such - just "those people. of course i feel bad for those people, but--" it's jarring and maddening at the same time.

I am definitely more of a tickle person than a snz person, but the snz community on Tumblr is much easier to be part of than the tickle community.
With snz, I don't have a ton of no-age blogs and minors interacting with me like I do with tickling, despite how hard I have tried to prevent that from happening. There also isn't a ton of art depicting minors like there is in the tickle community. Y'all are generally very respectful and very clear about your boundaries, which is refreshing as hell. Snz is, generally, way hornier... which isn't really my bag, but I am comfortable with horny adults, whereas I am not comfortable at all with minor interaction.
Idk... It's just refreshing. I actually feel more motivated to make snz content, even though snz isn't my main thing and my tickling art gets way more interaction, just because of the other bs I don't have to deal with.
#I also do not like familial tickling and so far i have not seen ANY familial snz content#idk if this is just because i havent been interacting with snz long enough to - idk - experience a downside#but overall it's nice to not have to deal with the irritations i have with the tickling community#my tickle friends are amazing and obviously respectful which is great but not everybody is which is really unfortunate#vent post kinda#spicychatter
