This is your passive aggressive reminder that being able to lie really well doesn't, under no circumstances, have to always be related to psychopathy. People in her inbox are mad that she wrote a letter (and I'm the one who provided the prompt, so you ought to be sending that hate towards me too--the fact that the post took off the way that it did should tell you that we were far from the only ones troubled by this issue) and threatening to expose her identity? And over what? Because they cannot stand she bring up issues of racism and anti-Blackness?

Writing letters has ALWAYS been a form of peaceful demonstration. It's not even radical. Nowhere in the letter did we even ask that AMC disinvite Maven. We asked that they keep our disappointment in mind when arranging their publicity events and when thinking about whi they invite to these things. Nowhere did we encourage any sort of bullying. But as usual, nothing pleases these people. Whether we are holding signs up in front of the studio or simply writing a letter, it's all the same to these people. This shit is all connected. 2) the Bryceriel ship went up against a pre-existing relationship where the two characters (Bryce and Hunt) actually have feelings for each other, and actually like spending time with each other as both friends and lovers. You know, all the things Elain and Lucien canonically have no current signs of.

3) Lucien having a sad backstory doesn’t entitle him to Elain’s affections or love. It’s not about what he needs, or what the fandom thinks Elain needs (e.g. she needs to accept the mating bond, or she needs sunshine, or she needs to leave the Night Court), it’s about what Elain wants. And all signs (over 4 whole books now) suggest that’s not Lucien. It’s Azriel. And Elain is a seer - I’m trusting her judgement on this one.

4) I wouldn’t be so content to mock other people’s ships when you yourself have spent every. single. day. of the past 2-3 years going on and on about how Elucien is endgame, and that you know better than everyone else on the matter. You could be wrong too, you know?

2. My point was that Bryce / Az shippers were convinced that because Hunt and Bryce's bond was described different than other ships, it had to be fake and Bryce's real mate was Az. Just like E/riels have a million and one theories for why the Elucien bond isn't real. But just as it was proven that Bryce and Hunts bond was the real deal regardless of it's differences to other bonds in description, Elucien's bond is the real deal too. Just like Feysand, just like Nessian. You still have absolutely NO PROOF that it was manipulated in any way especially when there are multiple examples in the ACOTAR series and CC3 explaining that when a bond snaps, it can be scented. Not just when it's accepted. 3. Lucien doesn't deserve Elain because of his tragic backstory but from a logical literary standpoint, authors do not write the progression of events that SJM has written for Lucien only to have his mate reject him in the end. The author chose to write it into her book that they are mates, has written him to be entirely respectful to the gift they share, and continues hitting us over the head with their compatibility. Elain is not real, you do know that, correct? It's not about what Elain wants but what the author wants for her. Nesta WANTED to drink and fuck random fae. Was that the best thing for her? Or did the author want better for her? So just because Elain wanted to hook up with Az doesn't meant that decision is being made for the right reasons or what Elain actually wants long term. I think it's a RIOT that you think Elain wanting to have a hook up with Az while refusing to reject her bond is a bigger clue to her future story than things like Elain always being by the sunniest window, that Elain wearing black, no matter how much she claimed to be part of the NC....it sucked the life from her, that SPRING had been made for someone like Elain, that Elain's scent was a promise of Spring. Oh, you mean the Seer powers Elain confirms she hasn't used? That her good boy Az hasn't offered to help her with? Yeah, great call banking her entire future on those powers. Seriously, step away from your ship for half a minute and pay attention to the fucking book outside of the Az and Elain moments. 4. I'm sorry. If I actually knew who you were and I looked at your page, do you think I'd find how you liked posts of E/riels mocking Lucien and the Elucien ship? A key point in Azula's potential redemption...

I have talked before about how I think that humiliating and torturing Azula in the name of redemption is ineffective, unfair, cruel, barbaric, inhumane, monsterous, ect...

I go into detail about why I think that in this post, check it out if you're interested.

It has come to my attention that people believe that Azula should be abused cause Zuko also got abused and the pain and humiliation changed him. In this post I will explain why that wouldn't work for Azula.

Mainly, it's because Zuko didn't just get abused. He got abused by Ozai. And that's a major detail, because it affects what Zuko thought of that abuse.

In Fire Nation, the Fire Lord is treated like some kind of god and everyone accepts it. People suffer due to bad economy (war and all) but it's okay because it's the Firelord's will send the Firelord knows best. Zuko being abused by said Firelord is what taught him that no, the Firelord isn't always good, he abuses his fucking kids, the Firelord can go fuck himself.

Zuko hated the fact that he was being abused and therefore to an extend hated Ozai for abusing him. That hatred is what made him able to view Ozai as an imperfect, non-godly being, that could be wrong in same cases and then helped Zuko realize that he was wrong about the war.

Zuko's hatred of Ozai's abuse is basically what triggered his redemption. That method worked for him. But it wouldn't work for Azula. And here's why.

Ozai is now out of the picture.

That's it. That's the reason why. That single detail is why the idea that Azula must suffer for redemption is logically impossible. Allow me to compare the situations:

Zuko was abused / Azula could be abused

Zuko hated his abuser / Azula will hate her abuser

Zuko wanted to destroy his abuser / Azula will want to destroy her abuser

Zuko's abuser was Ozai / Azula's abuser would be the Gaang and the peaceful society

Zuko hated Ozai / Azula will hate the Gaang and the newfound peace

Zuko helped ruin Ozai / Azula will try to ruin the whole world

Azula's redemption arc isn't happening during the war or by a character we know is bad. Especially if we say it's for the sake of redemption. Logically, the people that would want to see her redeemed would be Zuko, Mai, Ty Lee, Aang and potentially the rest of the Gaang.

So while Zuko's abuse made him hate a person that should have been hated, Azula's abused will make her hate people that shouldn't.

Zuko's abuse happened by Ozai and it made him Ozai.

If Azula gets abused, it will be by the good guys and it will make her hate the good guys.

Zuko's abuse was done by evil and made him turn towards good, which caused a redemption arc.

If Azula gets abused for the sake of a redemption arc by good, it'll make her hate both the idea of redemption and good in general.

You could argue that Zuko's abuse made him good but Azula's abuse would just make her more evil and that kind of defeats the purpose of doing it for the sake of redemption

Which is why humiliating/abusing- I'm sorry, "humbling" Azula wouldn't work for her the same way it did for Zuko, it'd have the opposite effect.

Thus proven.

And kudos to @hello-nichya-here for being one of the reasons I was inspired to write this post in the first place!

How is Zuko constantly physically attacking Katara not sexist?

*sighs eternally* Because he didn't do it because of Katara's gender. At most you can call their confrontations a result of Zuko being a racist, elitist prince, but the result is still the same: Zuko attacks Katara because she's another enemy trying to prevent the Fire Nation from achieving it's goals, not because "woman didn't do I wanted her to, time to beat her up to remind her I'm the man and am therefore correct."

"Zuko had no respect for Katara before his redemption arc and disregarded her well-being several times because of it" and "Zuko was never sexist towards Katara, even as villain" are ideas that can, and canonically do, coexist.

And since we're on the topic and someone will inevitably ask because of my other blog: No, him not being sexist is not a "win" for Zutara. Zuko is not suddenly her soulmate just because he did the bare minimum. This also does not make him a better than option than Aang or any other guy Katara was into because these guys were also not sexist. And while Katara got screwed over a few times for being a girl, most of the time the suffering she endured was because there was a war going on and her people were targets, not because of her gender, so Zuko being yet another guy among dozens not looking down on her for being a girl is not special and does not make him this savior Katara had been waiting for, it's a mundane, completely normal thing that she EXPECTS from every guy, hence her being shocked when Pakku is like "Women can't fight."

Liking the ship it's fine. Pretending that liking it is the same as fighting against real life sexism is pathetic and intelectually dishonest.

Disliking the ship is also fine. Pretending that Zuko was a raging misogynist just to dunk on Zutara, or on him as a character, is ALSO pathetic and intelectually dishonest.

Me: What is even "okay" to ship anymore in this fandom? Kataang is incest coded now, right? Zukka and Zutara are colonization and racist. Is SukixSokka okay, maybe?
