I did, finally, at 30 years of age try a martini for funsies earlier today. I think I've drank more in the past two days (four drinks total and actually finished them) than I did all of last year. Turns out I just apparently need my drinks dryer than the Sahara and not a hint of sugar so I don't get the ick.

Americano Mocktail
1 serving
This drink was invented in the 1860s at a bar in Italy. It was used by Ian Fleming in the Casino Royale book when James Bond ordered an Americano. The cocktail is made of Campari, Sweet Vermouth and soda water garnished with a slice of orange.
This mocktail is made of pomegranate juice, lemon-lime soda, and Angostura bitters to imitate the bitterness of the Campari and sweetness of the Vermouth which makes it a refreshing drink.
Ingredients
¼ cup Pomegranate juice
3/8 cup of lemon-lime soda
A few drops of Angostura bitters (there is a small amount of alcohol in it)
Garnish: Orange slice (optional)
Directions:
Fill a rocks glass with some ice cubes. Pour some pomegranate juice over the ice followed by the lemon-lime soda and a few shakes of the Angostura bitters. (adjust the bitters to your taste). Gently stir with a swizzle stick. Garnish if choosing.
Serve to anyone not drinking alcoholic drinks like designated drivers or anyone not drinking alcohol for any reason. This is a great drink to serve at bridal showers or any kind of gathering.

Scofflaw
A potent Prohibition-era cocktail, the Scofflaw is thus named because it -the word; not the drink!- won a contest to find a term to describe the "lawless drinker" in 1924, and bartenders certainly didn't lack a sense of humour! It is a beautiful concoction, the whisky lifted by the herbaceous fragrance of vermouth, and balanced with the sharpness of lemon, and the delicate sweetness of a dash of grenadine! One would certainly bend the law for one of these; Happy Friday!
Ingredients (serves 1):
8 ice cubes
60 millilitres/2 fluid ounces (4 tablespoons) good Canadian Rye Whisky
30 millilitres/1 fluid ounce (2 tablespoons) dry vermouth
half a lemon
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1/4 teaspoon Grenadine
Spoon ice cubes in a shaker.
Pour Canadian Rye Whisky and vermouth over the ice. Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the lemon halve. Add two dashes Angostura bitters and Grenadine.
Close the shaker tightly, and shake energetically until well-chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
Enjoy Scofflaw immediately. Cheers!
