If I could pitch season 16 of Supernatural:
Dean wakes up and it turns out that everything from 15x18 was an Empty Nightmare because he actually grabbed Cas just before he got taken, so got pulled in too.
Sam and Jack have been trying to get them both out for 5 years.
Jack still got the God Powers but he's whimsical with them and retains his personality. He wants to try and preserve human free will. But also helps in small ways where he can. (and still pops into the bunker for a bowl of cereal from time to time)
Sam is the 'new Bobby' in the MOL bunker - sending out hunters and knowing all the lore about all the monsters. (Also he practices witchcraft on the side)
No blurry wife - Sam and Eileen are engaged - and no Dean Jr. But! they are considering having a kid soon. And! They can get married now that Dean and Cas are back!
Dean and Cas heartfelt reunion!!! Clinging hug!!!! Never let me go again!!!! We're not talking about the confession but we both want to!!!!! etc etc
Cas is still an angel and Jack offers to make him an archangel !! Cas feels like he should say yes out of obligation (even if he doesn't want to leave) but Dean actually FINALLY asks him. to stay? (Cas immediately declines Jack's offer)
Dean struggles with the memories of his Empty Nightmare. (It was just SO bad. But also he tries to describe Old Man Sam and his bad hair and that cheers him up.)
The original Death is back because he never really died, he just didn't want to be involved in all the Winchester shenanigans. But he's back now that all the world-ending chaos is over. (Tessa is also back as his second-in-command)
Billie is the new ruler over the Empty, and it's a place of eternal rest now. Very peaceful. Meg is there and she's having a great time relaxing.
Crowley comes back as a human for a second chance. He's still kind of an ass but he's lovable with it.
Lots of reunions and cameos. It's magic you can bring all sorts of characters back to life - a lot of them died unfairly in the first place. Bring them all back!
Dean! and! Cas! Kiss!
I want all the genres of kiss. Confused. Desperate. Relieved. Passionate. Tender.
The season is all very character focused and character driven and ties up any loose ends the show had left.
The drama comes from internal character struggles and with Dean and Cas figuring out where they fit into this 5 years on world now. (The answer is together doing whatever they want to and Dean comes to the realisation he wants to retire, but he struggles with reconciling that he wants to retire and Sam doesn't and they have to go on different paths now).
The series ends with the big Sam/Eileen wedding and it's just a huge party and gathering of all the cameos you can possibly think of. Friends, family, frenemies, some beloved characters who only appeared in one episode... they're all there.
Dean proposes to Cas by taking the loop from Baby's keys out of his pocket and getting down on one knee and using it like a ring stand-in (it's way too big but it's symbolic and cheesy and sweet and it doesn't matter)
Of course he says yes.
The end.

Happy 2nd anniversary to those two old guys from supernatural [[ao3]]
Their room is a mess.
It’s not their fault; though they’re largely retired, Claire and Kaia needed backup on a nearby mystery monster situation. So Cas’d cracked open the books and Dean had packed a duffle and when they’d stopped hearing from the kids, they’d gone in after them. ’Course, by the time they’d gotten back they’d pretty much just shed their viscera-covered clothing and dropped into bed.
Bright winter sun streams in through the window, causing Dean to groan and Cas to burrow further into his pillow. The duffle has been thrown at the closet door, the thing busted open and swollen with weaponry. Cas’s angel blade thigh holster hangs off the bottom-right bed post and Dean’s gun sits atop the dresser. The room smells like sewage and monster guts, which isn’t exactly ideal for a second wedding anniversary, but Dean figures they’ve done worse; last year, Jack had been so sick they’d spent the day trying to stop his puking.
But Jack is with Sam and Eileen today, and after a shower and a change of sheets, Operation: Oops We Did It Again can finally commence. Starting, hopefully, with a vat of coffee and Dean getting fucked silly as many times as they can swing it.
“Cas,” he whines, eyes closed. He shakes his shoulder. “Coffee.”
“You do it,” Cas says.
“Did it last time.”
Cas slaps at Dean’s hands. “M’gonna burn it.”
“S’automatic, you loser.”
“Can’t.” He rolls over. Tucking his face into the juncture of Dean’s neck, Cas applies half-asleep kisses everywhere he can reach, mumbling nonsense about how good and strong Dean is, how he’s the best provider and so manly and wouldn’t he prefer to make the coffee?
Dean stumbles out of bed grumbling.
Cas smiles. “I love you,” he murmurs, eyes still closed.
Yeah, Dean bets he does.
By the time he comes back with two mugs and his present under his arm, Cas has moved from his side of the bed to Dean’s, his head face-down in Dean’s pillow. Dean still has no idea how he manages to breathe like that. “Hey, Sleeping Beauty. C’mon.”
Cas groans.
“Cas, seriously. There’s shit all over the room, I need you to grab this.”
He rises from the bed like a zombie from the grave, sitting up and offering his hands. As soon as the mug is cupped between his palms he sighs. “Thank you.”
“Yeah, no problem.”
“I love you.”
“I know.”
“Kiss.”
Dean grins. Pecks his mouth. “We’re so nasty,” he says. “Feel like I need to go through a human car wash.”
“Mm.” His blue eyes are only barely open. “Made it though.”
“Yeah by the skin of our teeth.” Dean frowns at his mug. “Gettin’ old.”
“For fighting, maybe. For everything else...” Cas shrugs. Smiles. “I think you deserve a real retirement.”
Dean purses his lips. They haven’t really talked about going whole hog on their apple pie life yet, and it’s not something he really wants to think about; if his family’s in trouble, he’s just supposed to sit around with his thumb up his ass? He’d never leave Jack, how could he leave Claire and Kaia?
“We don’t have to decide right now,” Cas says, clearly more awake. He shrugs. “It might be something to think about. I don’t like it, but Sam and Eileen’s network has been doing great things. And I think we scared Claire.”
“Yeah,” Dean chews his lip, distracted. “Maybe.”
“...Is that for me?”
“Hm? Oh, yeah.” Smiling, again, Dean takes the badly-wrapped package from under his arm and offers it. “It’s, uh, nothin’, y’know. Just... yeah. Happy anniversary.”
Cas kisses him, soft and sweet. “What is it?”
“You have to open it, you dork.”
“Alright, well...” Cas stretches and reaches under the bed, bringing up a present of his own. “Happy anniversary to you, too.”
Dean grins. “Open mine first.”
Cas’s gift is a riotously coloured cotton sweatshirt and short set. The thing looks like it’s been pulled right out of the 90s, soft and bright and Cas smiles so big his gums show. “I’m going to wear it once I’ve showered.”
“You don’t have to—”
“I want to.” He leans in for another kiss, grinning when Dean chases as he pulls away. “Open yours.”
Dean shakes his head, moving to press soft, wet kisses across Cas’s top lip. “Wanna make it last.”
Cas gives as good as he gets, shuffling until he’s practically in Dean’s lap. Their empty mugs have gotten lost in the dirty sheets somewhere, hands holding and squeezing and grabbing as the kiss deepens to something sexy and slow. Cas has this way this way of kissing that makes it feel like the main event. “Trust me,” he breathes. “We’re going to want what’s in there for the next part.”
“The shower?” Dean teases, leaning in again.
Cas nips his bottom lip. “The sex.”
Dean tears into the wrapping paper.
“Oh hell yeah.”
Sheets.
“Egyptian cotton,” Cas grins. “500 thread count.”
“Mm, talk dirty to me.”
“Single-ply,” he says lowly. “Hand-dyed.”
“Oh baby.”
They beam at each other.
“Thanks, man,” Dean says. “I love ’em.”
“That’s only part of your gift,” he explains matter-of-factly. “I also plan to fuck you on those sheets. And to have pizza delivered later.”
“Hot.”
They make-out for longer than they probably should given how gross they are, until Cas is trying to hump him like some over-eager teenager and Dean is rapidly forgetting why they shouldn’t just add to the mess (the answer: that would be disgusting). “Sweetheart, we gotta—we should—”
“What if we just, ah, like this. Then later—”
Dean shakes his head. “Want it to last. I want—”
“I can do that. I can—fuck—”
“Cas, if you come without fucking me I’m gonna be pissed.”
Cas wrenches away, frustrated. “Then just let me—”
“Woah,” Dean interrupts. “What’s the rush? Sweetheart, hey. Castiel.” But Cas refuses to meet his eyes. Dean cups his face. Cas grips his wrists. “Talk to me.”
“I love you,” he blurts out.
Dean frowns. “Yeah, I love you, too.”
“I love you so much,” Cas says, like it’s a confession. Like it’s being ripped out of him. “I’m here. We’re married. We almost died. And I just—Dean, I don’t know—There’s something wrong with me, I—”
Dean’s eyes soften. “Nah, there’s nothing wrong with you.”
“Sorry,” Cas croaks, squeezing his eyes shut as if to stop himself from crying. “I want you. I-I want—So I don’t understand why I’m—I was fine. I’m fine.”
“Yeah,” Dean agrees. “You are.” His dirty fingers thumb away tear tracks from the apple of Cas’s cheek. “Look, sometimes... we think we’re fine but we’re overwhelmed, y’know? S’okay.”
“I wanted to take care of you today.”
“Who says the day’s over?” Dean asks. “We’re gonna go take a nice long shower and I’m gonna wash your hair, and then I’m gonna go order like 40 pizzas and choose a movie, ’cause you owe me for coffee this morning. Then we’ll shove everything in the wash, and change the sheets, and you’re gonna fuck me so good I’ll feel it for the rest of the week.” Cas huffs a laugh. Dean smiles. “Darlin’,” he murmurs. “We’ll talk about hunting.”
Cas bites his lip. “I don’t want to die,” he breathes. “I only just got you back.”
The smallness of his voice hangs in the air between them. Dean feels something in him break. “...Yeah,” he swallows thickly. “I know.”
“But I don’t want to leave Claire if she needs help,” Cas argues with himself. “And you love hunting, I don’t want—”
“Alright well, first of all I don’t love hunting.”
“You know what I mean.”
“We’ll figure it out,” Dean promises. “We always do.” They’re quiet as he rubs at the cut of Cas’s jaw, a smile teasing at the corner of his mouth. “Not to change the subject or anything,” he eventually says. “But that was some serious real adult shit right there.” Cas rolls his red-rimmed eyes. Dean puffs out his chest. “C’mon, you gonna tell me I didn’t just make that conversation my bitch? I win at relationships, man.”
Despite the smile creeping across his face, Cas shakes his head. “I don’t think that’s how it works.”
“Whatever, I’m totally winning.”
Cas squints. “You routinely put things away without asking where they go. And then you forget about them, like a squirrel.”
“Please, you leave your shit all over the place. What am I supposed to do? Just walk right on by?”
“Yes! You...” Cas trails off, eyeing Dean’s shit-eating grin with a grimace. “Fine. Yes. Thank you. You’re very good at relationships.”
“Some would even say...” Dean prompts.
“They’d be wrong,” Cas says simply. “If the sample size is the rest of our lives, there’s no way to tell you’ve won yet.” A shrug. “And as we aren’t even through the whole day today, the jury still seems to be out on that, too. Sorry.” He doesn’t sound sorry.
Dean hums. “So what you’re saying is, we should get in the shower to figure out who’s better.”
“As a start, yes.”
“Cool.”
Dean’s halfway to the bathroom when he suddenly pulled into a hug. Cas steps in and around until they’re pressed chest to chest, clinging to him in a way that would have broken bones if he was still an angel. He pulls away with a kiss to Dean’s closed mouth. “Thank you,” he says emphatically. “I don’t know what I did to deserve you, but I’ll never stop being thankful for it.”
A blush explodes across the bridge of Dean’s nose. “That’s cheating.”
“I meant it.”
Dean looks at him, helpless. “Cas.”
Cas stares his fill until he’s apparently done, nodding to himself before leading Dean, by the hand, into the bathroom. “Come.”
Dean does, for the record.

August 14th: Roadtrip
“So?” Sam asked, as Dean leaned into the backseat of the Impala, propping the ‘Just Married’ sign up against the back window. “Where’s the honeymoon? The beach?”
Climbing back out of the car, Dean flashed Sam a smile before catching Cas’ gaze. The angel had just put their bags into the trunk and was now walking around to the passenger side, still wearing his suit from the wedding; looking even more beautiful than the moment Dean said ‘I do.’
“Nope, already been there,” Dean grinned, watching as his husband- oh God, husband, he had a husband!- leaned against the Impala and smiled at him as if Dean hung the sun and the moon and the stars.
Sam shook his head fondly, before stepping away from the Impala towards Eileen.
“You two have fun,” Eileen said, catching Cas’ eye and flashing him a wink.
“Yeah, not too much fun, though,” Sam replied, sticking his tongue out at Dean.
Dean flipped him off, before blowing Eileen a kiss. Sliding into the driver’s seat, Dean couldn’t help but find Cas’ hand the second the angel was sitting next to him. Cas’ ring glinted in the light, and Dean felt his heart skip a beat. He put that ring there. And Cas put one on his hand, too. They were married. No matter how many times Dean said it, it still felt surreal.
“Well, Mr Cas Winchester,” Dean said, grabbing a map from the dashboard as he began to unfold it. “The road is our compass. Where are we heading on our roadtrip honeymoon?” There were a thousand places they could go; a million things they could see.
Cas grinned, snagging the map from Dean’s hand and throwing it onto the backseat. “Just drive,” Cas said, linking his fingers with Dean’s and squeezing his husband’s hand tightly.
Dean laughed, happy and free, and he leaned across the seat to kiss Cas. “You got it, handsome.”
Driving into the sunset felt like freedom, like home, and Dean couldn’t wait to spend forever with his husband by his side.

Suptober 10 Oct.: Enchanted
"I asked Cas to marry me, and he said yes," Sam burst out.
deancas ust, Sam-n-Cas chaos friends 4ever
"I left you guys alone for ten minutes. Walked down to the car, got the freakin' lavender eye pillow – it was wedged under the back seat, thanks for asking – walked back. Not even ten minutes. Six, tops." Dean knew his blood pressure registered just shy of Massive Stroke and took a breath. "I trusted you to keep them from doing anything dumb."
Eileen narrowed her eyes at him and signed a number of things he didn't know how to translate, except she definitely ended it with, "...you shithead."
"Okay, okay, where are they?"
"Back here." Eileen sighed aloud. "Prepare yourself."
The cabin's wraparound porch overlooked a clear, burbling stream strewn with slate shards and red sassafras leaves shaken off the trees. Autumn presented such a spectacular landscape, such an idyllic respite, Dean desperately wanted to run off into the surrounding forest and just ignore everything else going on.
Instead, he tried to keep the brain-bending horror he felt from showing on his face.
"Dean!" Sam said, lit up like a sunrise. "Cas and I have some news."
He was seated on one of the wide window sills; Cas sat beside him, his hands in Sam's.
Dean felt a vein in his forehead start to throb.
"Oh, I'm too nervous," Sam said, looking away to capture Cas with his patented puppy eyes on full display. "You tell him."
Cas nodded and looked at Dean. Dean's ears filled with white noise, like a million bees had decided to swarm him.
"Dean. Dear Dean." Cas shook his head fondly. "You raised Sam as your own–"
"Well, that's an exagger–" Dean started.
"–and while it may seem old fashioned, I think I speak for us both when I say Sam and I would like your blessing."
Behind Dean, Eileen made a noise that sounded like a choked-off laugh-snort. He refused to engage.
"Cas, what are you talking about?" Dean asked slowly. Calmly. Kindly, even.
Cas looked at Sam all bashful like, and Sam bit his lip. His dimple showed, for pete's sake.
"I asked Cas to marry me, and he said yes," Sam burst out.
Eileen was making a very undignified series of muffled honks at this point. Dean glared at her and she started giggle-crying behind her hands. After a few seconds, she was able to sign, "I'm so happy for you guys," at Sam, who absolutely beamed with delight.
"I know this is happening quickly," Cas said, standing to, Dean supposed, make his case more pointedly. "But Sam and I, well – we’ve loved each other for a long time, and it's just, we're ready. We'd be so honored if you'd be a part of our wedding party."
"Party?" Dean managed to say. Hornets were stinging him in the eardrums, the throat.
"Tomorrow at two," Sam said. "I'll text Jody and Donna and Garth–"
"Should we go ahead and call the bakery we passed in town?" Cas asked him. "We could order one of those gluten-free vegan pumpkin rolls–"
"Ooh, with the coconut," Sam said, all smiles.
"Please stop," Dean whispered. He couldn't seem to move.
Eileen slapped his arm. Cas and Sam, besotted with one another, cuddled on the windowsill as Cas looked up the bakery's number on his phone. Eileen jerked her head in the opposite direction and led Dean to the far end of the porch.
"What the hell happened?" Dean hissed while trying to sign.
"We misread the steps." Eileen grimaced. "The blood should have been the fifth ingredient added. I think." She made a Whoops! kind of expression.
Dean pinched the bridge of his nose. "So they're…this, instead of able to unlock the suspicious warlock box from the crime scene."
Eileen gestured theatrically at Sam and Cas. "Love is love, Dean." She hid another laugh when Dean growled at her.
"How do we fix it? Lavender, I hope?"
"Ah!" Eileen grabbed up the dusty old spellbook with the broken spine and distressing scent of decay hanging around it. (Dean was never letting Sam wander into a used bookstore by himself ever again.) She pointed to the last paragraph on a page where someone had scratched in notes in an unstable ink. "More blood."
Dean closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them, he saw Cas push a lock of Sam's hair gently behind his ear, and Sam looked at Cas like…like… Like he found him to be the most enchanting creature he had ever beheld.
If they were truly in love, Dean thought, eyes prickling, or if they've been in love all along–
Eileen slapped something into his hand: a 21-gauge needle she'd fished out of the big weird bag Sam always carried anymore for witchy things.
"I don't trust you with a knife right now," she told Dean. "No offense."
-
In the kitchen at the front of the cabin, Sam was saying something to Eileen like, "I am so, so sorry. Why are you laughing?"
"He isn't the only one who feels embarrassed," Cas said gruffly. He stood at the end of the couch and waited. "May I?"
Dean glugged down half a bottle of beer and wiped his mouth. "Sit anywhere you like." He shrank into his corner of the couch a little more and picked at the band-aid covering the tiny puncture wound from the needle, and the longest, most awkward minute of his recent life ticked by in silence.
"I hope it goes without saying," Cas began.
"You can just–" Dean didn't look at him. "No explanations needed."
"Well, good." Cas was quiet for another interminable minute that casually chewed at Dean's brain like a parasite. "I do need you to know something."
Dean made himself look at him. Looked into his best friend's beautiful, earnest eyes. It was difficult not to blurt out everything Dean wasn't supposed to say or feel, for his best friend and to his best friend. He swallowed, and nodded for Cas to continue.
"I would never make you eat gluten-free vegan cake, Dean," Cas said.
Dean wondered if he could use his own skull to open up the warlock box.

Second Weekend of June
Tumblr media
Author: Tossukka (@sitruunavohveli) Artist: DimitryRmy (@dimitrirmy) No Major Archive Warnings Tags: anonymous sex, hidden identity, weddings, one night stands, bachelor & bachelorette parties, semi-public sex
Summary: It’s a tale as old as time. Two men meet, give each other fake names, and have a one-night stand. It’s fun and uncomplicated, and they never expect to meet again. They’re both keeping busy planning a wedding among other things anyway, Dean as the best man to Sam, Castiel as the man of honor to his best friend Eileen.
Except then they do meet again and start developing feelings for each other.
Preview: “One Irish Coffee, please,” a deep, raspy voice said to the bartender, and Dean gave a glance to the new customer.
At least Dean had meant to only give a glance, but he found himself unable to turn his eyes back. The guy had taken off his woolen hat which had left his dark hair pointing in every direction. His face was handsome, and he had slight stubble on his cheeks. The trench coat wasn’t attractive but since it was wet from sleet, the guy removed it and put it away. Underneath he was wearing what Dean assumed to be a work suit. After getting his drink, he glanced towards Dean and gave a slight smile. Dean took that as an invitation.
“Hey,” Dean said and moved to sit next to the guy.
“Hello,” the man answered, and the smile stayed on his lips.
“Haven’t seen you before,” Dean said. “New to town?”
“Actually just here for work,” he said. For a moment he looked like he was about to say something more, but he shut his mouth again and instead took a sip of his drink.
“You look like you had a long day too,” Dean said. “I can screw off if you’d rather be alone.”
“No, it’s fine. I would like some company,” the man said and gave Dean a once over. “Only… Okay, let me be honest here for a moment?”
“Sure,” Dean said and took a sip out of his own glass.
“I’ve only just broken up from a complicated relationship, and I’m not looking for anything serious. Nothing that would further complicate my life. So I’m going to give you a fake name. Is that alright?”
Okay, that was new. Dean could take some uncomplicated, not serious for one night. Not like he had never had anonymous sex before.
“Sounds like a deal. You can call me Michael,” Dean said and reached out to shake the man’s hand.
“Is that your real name?”
“No.”
The man laughed.
“Thank God. You can call me Jimmy,” Jimmy said and shook Dean’s hand.
“So. Why was your workday shit? Bad boss? Overenthusiastic coworkers? Office gossip?” Dean asked.
“None of those. We have a big project going on in cooperation between offices from two different cities. So I’ve been to meetings all day and in every single one I’ve had to pretend to be ‘innovative’, ‘excited’, and ‘extroverted’. I’m none of those things, so pretending in front of strangers for over nine hours gets a bit rough,” Jimmy explained making full on air quotes with his hands. Dean thought it was adorable.
“Why are none of your coworkers here drinking with you?”
“I assume they were rather tired as well. Or had families to go home to. Maybe they didn’t want to brave the weather,” Jimmy said. “I was also only going for one drink and then go back to my hotel room.”
“Mmm, is your hotel far away?” Dean asked emptying the rest of his whisky. Jimmy smiled again.
“Just one block over,” he answered.
“Perfect.”

Nice Day for a...Wait for It (3 of 5)
(For Alt. 13: Crutches)
Fandom: Supernatural Rating: G General Warning: chronic illness, internalized ableism, disability, violence
Summary: Sam and Eileen's wedding is just a few days away, and Dean and Castiel join them for some relaxation at the hotel before the ceremony. But Winchester Luck strikes again, and they find themselves at the center of disaster as secrets are uncovered. Cas has gotten stronger since the ritual that tore his grace away and left him human, but will it be enough when he's targeted by a malevolent spirit? (Read on AO3)
...
"There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness."
(Thus Spoke Zarathustra - Frederick Nietzsche)
...
Sam trailed Eileen into the antique store and was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer number of knickknacks and furniture crammed into the tiny space. There was an entire wall of clocks, for one thing, and he vowed to be out before the top of the hour when they’d all start to chime.
“Oh, hello!” A gray-haired, matronly woman waved to them from the counter. “Good to see you back, my dear. Did you come for that little table?”
Eileen hooked an arm through Sam’s and pulled him forward. “Still talking him into it.”
Sam tried to smile, but the spirit that had attacked Dean and Cas the night before was weighing heavily on his mind. “I actually came to ask you about something else.”
The woman’s eyebrows shot up. “Well, by all means, ask away. You were right, he’s a cutie!” She added the last part in a loud stage whisper to Eileen, making her laugh and Sam fidget with embarrassment. “Now, what were you wanting?”
“Our friend, he was in here with my fiancée yesterday? He bought a Christmas ornament?”
“Yes, the darling man in the wheelchair. He was a cutie, too, you can’t keep them all to yourself, girl.”
Sam gave an awkward smile as the woman addressed Eileen again. “It’s just, it’s a lot like the ornaments my mother collected,” he interjected, pulling the woman’s focus back on him. “We lost them all in a house fire when I was a child, and I was hoping you might have a few more?”
“Oh, that’s too bad.” The woman shook her head. “No, that was the only one left. They were all from an estate sale about a month ago, I barely had them in the store before someone snatched the whole lot up. Well, except the one your friend bought. I didn’t find him until last week, and I was just thinking I should contact the other buyer to see if she wanted mister mushroom.”
“I see.” Sam feigned a disappointed expression and turned as if to leave the shop. “I don’t suppose…can you tell me who bought them? It’s just that it would be such a nice surprise for my mother.”
The woman hesitated, though only for a moment. “Oh, I just can’t say no to you. Don’t think it’d do any harm…it was Emily. Emily Townsend.”
“Townsend?” The name sounded familiar, but Sam couldn’t quite place it.
“Yes, she runs the River Oaks Hotel, down on second street. Always puts up a big Christmas display every year, right after Halloween. She bought every last ornament, except the one your friend found yesterday.”
Sam shared an alarmed look with Eileen, then thanked the woman and hurried out of the store to where Dean was waiting with the Impala.
This was ridiculous.
While the others had gone to interview the woman at the antique store, Castiel had been left at the hotel with strict instructions (from Dean) to stay in bed and wait for their return. Dean had left him with a salt ring around the bed, and a crowbar and sawed-off shotgun close at hand in case the spirit returned.
Which it wouldn’t. It had obviously been connected to the mushroom ornament, and they had destroyed all remnants of that as soon as Dean had been able to get out to his car for more supplies. Dean was just being overprotective, as usual.
Cas swung his legs over the edge of the bed and picked up his crutches, which had been leaning against the wall. He was doing no good sitting here when he could at least be exploring the hotel. Even though he was human now, there was still a chance he could pick up on things that the Winchesters missed. He slipped his phone in his pocket, the ringer left on silent, and limped his way out of the door into the hallway beyond.
It was late morning, so the hotel was fairly busy. He kept as close to the wall as he could, not wanting to get in the way of guests and staff, and picked his way in the opposite direction of the lobby.
The River Oaks Hotel was only two stories tall, with an elevator in the central corridor. Cas avoided the elevator and chose to follow the cross-corridor down to its end. There was an external door that led out to the parking lot, and doors for a conference room and business center.
He shuffled back when the business center door swung open, and one of the hotel staff came out with a garbage bag in her arms. “I think there’s more toner in the basement,” she called over her shoulder.
“Yuck.” Another staff member followed her, lugging a vacuum cleaner and caddy of supplies. “I hate going down there, it’s so creepy with all that crap Emily keeps buying.”
Cas watched them go, interested in their conversation. Sam and Dean hadn’t mentioned anything about the basement. He slowly followed the hotel staff toward the lobby, trying to look like he was just getting some exercise and not paying too much attention to them. Luckily, the crutches seemed to make him almost invisible to the people around him, for all he felt like he stood out more. Like people took one look at him and dismissed him as beneath their notice.
It was even worse in the wheelchair, but Dean didn’t understand that. He didn’t understand the feeling of countless eyes judging and weighing you and finding you lesser.
They went through a door marked for hotel staff only, and Castiel shuffled over to a display of tourist brochures where he could keep an eye on the door but not stand out too much. He didn’t have to wait long until they came out again, both pushing large housekeeping carts.
He waited until the hall was empty, then made his way through the door to the staff only area. Immediately, something felt wrong. The hair on his arms stood on end and a headache pricked at the edges of his eyes. The staff area was just a modest set of lockers on one side and a collection of housekeeping supplies on the other, with a passageway at the back leading to the hotel’s industrial washing machines.
There was an unmarked wooden door next to the washing machines, and when Cas pushed it open he found a set of uneven stairs leading down below the hotel. He could see a few rows of wire shelving piled high with storage containers, from sagging cardboard boxes to brightly colored plastic totes.
He stared down the stairs for a long moment. He could make it down them and explore the basement. Might even find the source of the haunting. But he was unprepared for such a task and, truth be told, his legs were starting to ache from walking up and down the hall. At least he had a lead now. He had proven himself useful in this case, despite his physical limitations.
Cas started to turn to make his way out of the staff room when something grabbed at the bottom of his crutch and yanked it sideways, into the basement. He released it with a surprised grunt and clung to the doorknob for support, the other crutch clattering down after its mate. His skin was crawling now, and the pain in his head had spread down to his neck and shoulders.
His legs gave out, and he dropped to his hands and knees to crawl away from the basement door. Pressure was rising in his ears, like it had in the room last night. Suddenly, the overhead lights exploded, raining glass and sparks down in the darkened room. Cas curled up with his arms over his head for protection, only to feel something latch onto his foot and pull him toward the basement.
Scrabbling for a handhold, he managed to catch the rickety banister at the top of the staircase. It creaked and groaned under his weight as Castiel fought to pull himself up.
The wood gave with a snap, and he hurtled down the stairs into the silence of the basement, landing painfully on his side on a large crate. Pain flared up his side, his chest suddenly almost too tight to breathe. His entire body ached from numerous impacts, and he let himself slide to the floor with a moan of pain.
One of his crutches was nearby. Cas managed to push himself to one hand, though he nearly collapsed back down as his ribs protested the movement.
He crawled. Inch by painful inch. His fingers brushed the smooth aluminum, and he tugged the crutch closer. The basement was barely lit by a single overhead lamp, and he stared around the shadows until he located the other crutch closer to the stairs.
Cas let out a huff of exhaustion, though that tore at his chest and he had to stop moving until the pain receded a little.
It was then that he heard it. A deep, ominous creaking.
He looked up in time to see the wire shelves swaying back and forth, before an unseen force sent them crashing down on him.

As someone who also loves mythology may we please know more about Sam and his hobbies
Absolutely!!
Sam’s favorite type of mythology to study is Greek mythology
He’s honestly sad he never gets to deal with it more often
Read Percy Jackson as a kid before getting fully into hunting
Rereads it on the road a lot and has notes in the margins pointing out any inaccuracies or anything else worth noting
Another one of Sam’s hobbies is crocheting and I can’t explain why but I just knew she’d like it and also teach Cas how to do it too and they could bond over that
When Sam was younger he would beg Dean or John to take him to the museum every year for his birthday because he liked looking at the exhibits and still figures
Definitely collected (stole) model planes and boats in his childhood bc he thought they were cool
Did I mention he’s autistic
Also 100% had braces growing up
Also my Sam keeps the shaggy hair from like season one and two throughout the whole series send tweet
He also feels like he was a wolf kid in elementary school
And oh CAN A BITCH COLOR OR WHAT
He absolutely FILLS coloring books on road-trips and in his downtime, kid coloring books or the super complex adult ones he colors with pencils and crayons and tbh he likes crayons better bc he likes their texture and it reminds him of being a kid (and watching dean eat one once which he won’t let him live it down)
In domestic life Sam has entered and won in multiple baking contests,,, what a malewife
HE BAKED HIS AND EILEENS WEDDING CAKE HIMSELF…!!! IT WAS THREE LAYERS AND PHENOMENAL!!!
He was so nervous to eat it that Eileen ended up shoving their face in it to get it over with
Sam learned sign for Eileen really quick btw because he was already learning it in adolescence bc he thought it would be useful on hunts where they had to be quiet but John never listened to his idea so he stopped— but he picked it back up again quickly
Also took French in highschool, like cmon look at him,,, 4 years of honors French and he cannot speak a word of it tho

+it talks about that in here...that's how you and Sam found this place right?+
Abbadon
I breath deep as I remember good times, me killing a bunch of old bookworms that couldn’t even see it coming with all their books and traps. All the blood I lick my lip all the screaming. I nod my head

Dean
+I had to stop him from using the blood sigil from 1958 because it would have screwed up the past I can make arrangements for you to not be+
Eileen
+Sam told me about that.+
Crowley
Henry phone rings
Abbadon
I glare back at you. And them put my hand on my chest and close my eyes faking aww he called me a princess
Henry

Abbadon

Ruby
+You're good. You just need to brush up on you people skills+
Garth

Alex

Henry
+ don't know-how he got my number but+ fills them in on the hunt
Abbadon

Eileen
+if she did I wouldn't hesitate but I also know Crowley would get to her before me+
Dean
+what exactly did he say?+
Derek
+she kills me dude, Crowley will get pissed. I don't think anyone seen him very pissed but Sam+
Dean
+he can’t without the first blade+
Derek
grins
Alex
I smile
Eileen
+he'd find away.+
Crowley
looks over at you  +No Squirrel has, as has, Abby and even Gabe+
Derek
+he would go to the ends of the earth to find it....+ I pause +again+
Abbadon
I raise my brow! Don't start. I wouldn't hurt Derek!
Dean
+oh something even you aren’t dumb enough to do? Write it on the calendar+
Henry
sighs and repeats myself, There have been some odd deaths in a local town and I just can't seem to figure it out. All the victims died in their sleep, no markings, what seemed like heart attacks. Think Yall can handle it?
Eileen
+I'll get my gear+ closes the ledger
Abbadon
And that's not why I will never hurt Derek. He's just too good.
Alex

Lisa
shakes her head +no marks. No signs of struggles. They just...didn't wake up+
Derek
I snap on gloves and open a victims mouth to see if anything was there +there's worse ways to die. Sleeping is...well...the best way to die.+
Lisa
I look at the other two bodies I pulled out +we were thinking heart attack or some kind of poison that's undetected.+
Derek
I look up +undetected? They were smart then+
Lisa

Eileen
+No we need to go look at the crime scenes. Check for hex bags and what not+
Dean
+then wouldn’t they known if that was it?+
Ruby
One would think so
Dean
+then that can’t be it+
Crowley
+that doesn't sound like this, at all+
Dean
+correct and they should know and would have had that on record of that was the answer+
Eileen
nibbles on my fries
Abbadon
I look around you all talking about this thing. And it sounds familiar I think I've seen this kind of a creature before. I'm a bit hazy on the details. And dean before you make a snarky remark I've lived for too long to remember everything. I think that it was imprisoned centuries ago I frown as I try to remember more
Dean

rolls my eyes and looks over Derek +food ok?+
Ruby

Abbadon
+don't start with me you too+ I glare at you

Stands up +I think I'm going to take a walk...anywhere+
Eileen

Ruby

Dean
+I think I’m adorable+ smiles
………………………………………………..
1. Dean, Derek, Henry and Eileen are in the artifact room looking through some of the cool things that are stored there. Alex walks into the bunker and searches through the room until she finds them just as Eileen finds a ledger none of them had seen before.  Reading the first few pages Eileen says that she wasn’t sure which member this belonged to but maybe they should take it out of the room and look through it. Crowley, Ruby and Abby have spent the day in hell and walk into the bunker a bit grumpy and looking for a drink.
2. As they walk into the room, the book seems like it’s getting warm, but Eileen ignores it and sits it on the map table. She turns the pages and reads through as the others look over her shoulder and it seems the book is about everything that’s ever happened to the hunters that have come to the bunker. There was even a page about Dorothy.  Then she comes to the page where Sam and dean move into the bunker. Dean shares a story about his grandfather Winchester and Abby relishes in what happened to the rest of the men of letters. Derek glares at her and tells her she’s supposed to be on their side now. Ruby defends her and says something about how you can’t truly change a knight.
3. Just then the phone rings. It’s Garth calling Henry and telling him about a case. There have been some odd deaths happening in a local town but he couldn’t quite figure it out.  All the victims died in their sleep, no markings, what seemed like heart attacks. After he finishes talking he hangs up the phone and fills the gang in on the case.  They get ready and head out. Dean and Henry will drive and demons can pop if they wish.
4. As they arrive they book motel rooms while Derek heads to the police station to see if he can get any information. (This town is his jurisdiction free run this bit der)  they set up in their rooms and gather at a local diner to wait for some news. Just as they get their orders Derek comes in looking grim. The group asks what he found out and he tells them that so far there have been 11 victims but absolutely nothing ties them together. Local police suspect an unknown poison had been used and were closing the case.
5. Abby says that she’s seen something like this before, centuries ago, but he had been imprisoned.  Ruby and crowley ask what she is talking about. Abby says she’s not certain of the details, she was brand new then and hadn’t paid a lot of attention.  Eileen snarks about how useful that is while Henry and Alex warn her to be quiet. Abby tries a bit harder to remember and is only able to come up with a name… the alp
6. Henry says those are mountains. Crowley chuckles and says he may know where to find something on that. Abby shakes her head and Ruby steps in, with an open book in her hand and she points to a picture and says they may have to do some special work for this. Alps can only be seen in dreams.
7. Dean goes off on a rant saying that’s impossible, Alex and Henry try to calm him. Eileen asks crowley how they’re going to manage that. Ruby says she might have an idea but they’ll need human bait. Henry volunteers and Eileen tries to talk him out of it but Henry insists.
8. Ruby explains her plan about how they’ll put Henry to sleep. Abby draws a sigil on the floor meant to draw the alp. Crowley getting the idea, explains how the three demons will pop into Henry’s mind in their demon forms and they’ll take care of him. Ruby comments on how all of hell will realize her dominance after this. Abby grins and says she’s excited for the mess to come.
9. Ruby prepares a spell to put Henry to sleep. Dean and Eli prepare the exorcism for Ruby crowley and Abby. Alex is walking around worried for her teams safety.  Henry walks into the room in his pajamas and gets ready for bed. Eileen asks if he’s really sure. Henry shrugs and says he trusts his family. Reluctantly agreeing they wait for Henry to sleep, Alex has a needle case with her that was meant to slow Henry’s heart…. Just in case. Ruby performs the spell and Henry falls asleep, then dean and Eli the exorcism and the demons smoke out and go inside Henry’s head.
10. Free run, demons are in Henry’s mind looking for, fighting and defeating the alp. Dean Eli Derek and Alex are in the motel room watching the heart monitors and waiting something to happen. Not being in control dean is angry, Eileen and Alex are worried about little Henry and Derek worries about his fiancée.

The night before Dean and Cas’ wedding, they sleep separately, it’s a bit traditional, and neither Dean or Cas are particularly bothered by doing things the traditional way, but everyone else insists. Dean spends the night at Sam and Eileen's, Cas spends the night at Bobbys. Cas asks Bobby what Dean was like as a child, or maybe Bobby just starts reminiscing. Either way, the two of them, later joined by Mary, who was just checking in, are sprawled out over old yellowed photo albums. Bobby’s telling stories about Dean as a kid, how he always put up his little tough guy act even then, always looked out for Sam. But how at night, after Sam had fallen asleep, or in the mornings, before his little brother woke up, he was just a normal kid. Bobby’s telling them about how he took Dean out to teach him how to throw a baseball. How when Dean got a little bit older, Bobby taught him about cars. Bobby pulls out his old recipe cards and hands one to Cas, it’s old, thirty years at least, all yellow and stained, “Dean’s Meatloaf” the original recipe is just about visible through all the writing on it, it’s Deans, but from long before Cas knew him. Bobby tells Cas and Mary that when Dean was barely a teenager and Sam still just a child, that Sam got really picky about what he would and wouldn’t eat, and how Dean played around with this until it was perfect. Bobby tells them about the nights he woke in the middle of the night only to find Dean propped on the sofa reading old books he’d pulled from Bobby’s shelves. About how dean had learned to sew after he’d ripped his favorite jacket on an old bumper while playing in the scrap yard with Sam. He told them that to this day, he can recite the whole of “Lost Boys” because of the summer Dean discovered the film and became obsessed with it, watching it over and over. Cas and Mary hang on every word, Mary cries a bit, sad she missed out on all of these little things about her boys, Cas like he’s hearing the story behind his favorite work of art. The three stay up a while more, drinking and talking, laughing and crying, until they realize it’s getting late, “We can’t have you showing up to your own wedding half asleep now, can we?” Bobby says as he shuffles Cas off to bed. Mary takes a moment, once her and Bobby are alone to thank him for being there for Dean and Sam, she tells him how happy and grateful she is that they had someone like him in their lives. Bobby can’t form much of a response before Mary adds that they should really be off to bed too, “Our boy’s getting married in the morning.”

“You can come in, creep.”
Dean jolts a little, not realizing that Eileen could see him standing in the doorway. She turns to look at him with that grin of hers on her face, bright and mischievous and sweet, and motions him inside.
He walks in slowly, not wanting to disturb the peaceful feeling in the room. Eileen’s alone, standing in front of a full-length mirror, critically eyeing her appearance. He’d been watching her do that when she called him out, thinking, look at my sister. Look at my incredible, beautiful, badass sister.
Dean positions himself behind her in the mirror so she can read his lips as he talks. He clumsily tries to sign along; he’s definitely getting better, but his signs are nothing like Sam’s careful movements or the way they just seem to flow out of Cas and Eileen’s hands—it’s a learning process, he reminds himself. “Are you nervous?”
Eileen shakes her head firmly. She speaks as she signs for his benefit. “I’ve never been less nervous about anything in my life.”
“Good.” He watches as she smooths out the skirt of her dress for the umpteenth time, admiring the way it shimmers slightly in the midafternoon sunlight coming in through the window. It’s a pale, pale shade of green that Eileen had laughed about being very appropriate for a St. Patrick’s Day wedding. “You look beautiful.”
“Thank you.” She turns to look at him, and he’s startled to realize that there are tears in her eyes. He’s alarmed, and goes straight into big brother mode, reaching out to touch her shoulder, to hug her, to something, but she catches both of his hands and gently brings them down. “Can I tell you something, Dean?”
“Sure.” Internally, he’s panicking. What if she’s going to bail? It seems unlikely, seems crazy, but crazier things have happened in their lives, that’s for fucking sure.
Eileen must see it on his face, and she smiles, softer than usual. “It’s not anything bad.”
“Oh. Okay.”
“I wanted to—” She stops short, hands hesitating in front of her, tears still shining in her eyes. Dean watches her carefully. He’s got a hunch that this conversation is going to end with him crying, too; he thought he’d at least last until the ceremony started, but it looks like he’ll be a goner before the wedding even kicks off. “I love Sam. I love Sam more than anybody I’ve ever loved.”
And Jesus, that knocks the wind out of him already. “I know you do.”
“He’s everything to me. And I know…” Eileen takes a steadying breath, voice wavering a little. “I know how hard you’ve fought to keep him safe, to keep him happy. I know what Sam means to you. I know what you mean to him.”
There goes Dean. He clears his throat, willing himself not to start actually weeping, but he’s close.
Eileen smiles a watery smile. “Dean, you raised a great man. And I want you to know, you don’t need to worry about him, not with me. We have each other’s backs. I’m going to look out for him, now, and he’s going to look out for me. You don’t have to worry.”
Before she can say anything else, Dean’s got his arms around her and pulls her into what he’d worry would be a bone-crushing hug if it was anybody but Eileen—he knows she’s used to the particularly intense ways the Winchesters show affection. She tucks her head under his chin, arms tight around his waist. They stand there for a moment, breathing in time and crying together. Then, Dean presses a kiss to the top of her head and pulls back. Eileen’s eyes are red, but she looks just as beautiful.
“I’ve never had to worry about Sam with you,” He says, voice cracking a little as he does. “You’re so good for him, Eileen, and he’s good for you. You’re good together.” And then he cracks a grin. “You’ve been part of the family for forever now, anyway. Couldn’t get rid of you even if I wanted to.”
Eileen laughs a little. “Yeah, I’m tricky like that.”
They look at each other, smiling and crying and being way too sappy for the most badass members of the family, and then Eileen pulls him into another fierce hug. Dean once wondered how the hell somebody so small could ever match up to his sasquatch of a brother; it didn’t take long for him to realize that she could kick either of their asses easily.
“You need to get out of here,” Eileen says, tears beginning to dry and her typical playful wit returning to her. “I don’t know if you know, but I’m getting married today.”
“Yeah, I heard. To some kind of eight foot tall, shaggy-haired jackass? You could do better.” Dean winks, and Eileen rolls her eyes. “Alright, alright, I’m getting the hell out. Sam is gonna be looking for me anyway.” Then he pauses, thinking of his own marriage to Cas, how weird it felt to be sequestered from one another in the moments before they finally, finally were together forever. “Want me to pass along any messages?”
Eileen seems to think about it for a moment, a really sweet expression of absolute love on her face, before saying, “I’ve got one, but I don’t know if you want me to tell you. It’s pretty dirty.”
Dean pulls a face. “Okay, gross.”
Eileen laughs, a lovely, joyful sound. “Just tell him I love him, and I’ll see him out there.”
“Aye-aye, captain.” He grins at her, and tries to memorize the way she looks in that moment, how excited he feels for her and Sam, the moment they’re having together right now. Not for the first time in the last few months, he wonders how the hell he and Sam got so lucky.
“I love you, Eileen,” he adds, because he’s the kind of guy who can just say that to people now.
“You’re getting soft, Dean.” But Eileen grins back, and with the utmost care, signs, “I love you, too.”
He has to leave before he pulls her into another hug and they both start crying again. She’s right—he really is getting soft. But, he thinks to himself with a smile, they all are, these days.

dean spent so many hours with cas practicing his speech (because cas knows asl like, knows it knows it and it wasnt like dean was gonna practice with eileen because that would ruin the effect damnit) and he got really good at it. he practiced all the time in the few days before the wedding, mumbling under his breath and half forming the signs, just running through it like a nervous habit. eileen caught him doing it a few times and he always VERY blatantly stopped and acted like it was nothing but he is Not smooth and she is not an idiot so she picked out a few bits here and there of his speech before she got to see the whole thing. dean of course really thought he’d pulled it off as a surprise and eileen will absolutely tell him eventually that oh sweetheart, definitely not, but it was way too cute to rib him about. and when it was finally time for his speech, it didnt matter than eileen had already seen some bits of it or that dean’s hands were shaking or that he mixed up a few of the signs through his tears. it was clumsy and emotional and eileen watched him work through it while holding sam’s hand, both of them sniffling a little.
afterwards, when dean sits back down, she flashes him a bright grin.
not bad, she signs. i’d give it a nine out of ten. even though you accidentally said you hope we have lots of...bills?
dean looks stricken, eyes going wide enough that eileen can practically see the signs flashing through his mind. i really thought i had it all right, he says, messily, clearly thinking hard about what that would even look like. it only takes a few seconds for her to feel bad before she starts laughing,
you’re evil, he signs scowling.
i know, she says, and she tugs him into a hug

The Few Things: Wedding Day
[Sequel to my series called The Few Things]
A/N: I wasn’t going to write a follow up unless the story really did it justice, and I thought this did. So, hopefully you enjoy it! Link to the original at the bottom!
“What if we rushed this?” Dean adjusted his tie for the fifth time in as many minutes, “What if Cas realized we rushed this and he doesn’t show?”
“Dean, you’ve known each other for over a decade and lived together for years… I don’t think you need to worry about anything feeling rushed…”
“He should be here though, right?” Dean watched as their family began to walk in and find seats for themselves among the litany of mismatched chairs.
Jody blew him a kiss as she and Donna grabbed two of the less rickety chairs from the hodgepodge arranged around the barn.
Dean smiled but suddenly snapped his gaze back to Sam.
“What if Claire got them into something?”
“Dean, breathe,” Sam raised an eyebrow at him, “I’m sure everything is fine.”
Eileen was still adjusting the string lights they had hung up when the rest of the guests filed in.
The space quickly filling with beaming faces, and Dean’s expression softened as he scanned them until he found the one he was looking for.
Blue eyes at the back of the barn captured his as Claire and the Angel slipped in.
Claire wore a gray suit and Cas was looking better than anyone had a right to in all black.
The hunter found it hard to swallow and mortifyingly enough, his vision was clouding over.
He noticed Jody’s eyes on him as Cas began walking toward him, but he couldn’t pull his focus away if he’d wanted to.
He reached Dean, taking a hand in his and kissing Dean’s knuckle as he settled into the spot across from him.
“Hello, Dear,” Cas squeezed his hand as he lowered it between them.
“I was worried you weren’t coming,” the hunter admitted as Claire took her spot next to Cas, grinning from ear to ear as her eyes met with Kaia’s in the crowd.
“I just had to make sure Jack was ready,” his thumb caressed Dean’s hand within his own.
“Here. Ready!” Jack appeared next to them with a smile spreading high up onto his face.
“Hey, buddy,” Dean embraced him warmly before Sam and Cas could do the same, “Thought you were going to be hands off?”
“I made an exception,” the young God softened, “I couldn’t miss this.”
“Glad you did,” Dean ran a hand over his mouth to try and hide the emotion washing over his face, “Wouldn’t have felt right without you.”
“Okay, before I forget the words,” Jack stood taller.
“Aren’t you omniscient now?” Dean smirked and was promptly swatted by the former Angel next to him, “Sorry, do what you gotta do…”
“Okay,” Jack took a steadying breath before his eyes rose to the group watching them, barely a dry eye already, “Welcome, everyone. We have met here today to honor my fathers,” he beamed, “My fathers and the love that they share.”
Castiel’s pride was nearly palpable and also contagious as Dean found his eyes misting over again.
He never would have agreed to doing the whole ceremony thing if he’d known how much of an emotional wreck he was going to be the whole time.
Cas must have noticed too as he felt another squeeze to the hand he still held in his own.
“Dean, would you like to share your vows now?” he found Jack’s gentle yet encouraging eyes on him.
“Yeah, right…” Dean was dreading this part the most but Cas wrote something, pinning him into a corner to either have to write his own or look like a jerk.
He coughed and scratched the back of his neck, pulling a laugh from a few of the guests and Dean eyed them quickly in playful warning.
“Cas,” his eyes returned and he tried to shake off his anxiety, “You managed to get me up here doing the thing I’m worst at, so- thanks for that,” he smirked as Cas’ smile climbed up his cheeks, “And I gotta admit, the idea of talking about how I feel about you like this was terrifying… But then again, you’ve been terrifying me from the start. All stoic and self-righteous.”
“This is supposed to be sweet,” Cas’ face dropped and more of their friends laughed.
“I’m getting there,” Dean winked, “But yeah, I understand why you wanted to do this… ‘cause truth is, I don’t say what’s on my mind enough, and I sure as hell haven’t said enough to you about how incredible you are or how my life without you feels like, well, nothing…” he looked down to let a tear drip off of his cheek and heard Claire sniffling over Cas’ shoulder, “I love you so much, Cas. I don’t know what I did to deserve you, but thank you for always seeing the good in me… thank you for taking the time to look for it.”
Dean looked down before his eyes rose again and a supportive nudge from his brother had him clearing his throat to continue.
“I’ve never been convinced that I deserve this, but I’m going to try to every day for the rest of our lives because that’s what you deserve.”
He finally turned to see Jack’s sweet smile aimed toward him.
He nodded and Jack returned the motion.
“Castiel, would you like to share your vows now?” the boy asked with a raised brow, and Cas nodded as his eyes dropped to his feet nervously.
“Dean,” he handled the word as if it were sacred and let it linger like it deserved its own sentence, “I didn’t know what love was before I met you… even after I started to feel it,” his brow furrowed adorably as he spoke, “In fact, I think you and I were the last to realize what it was that was happening to us…”
“Other than Jody,” Dean glanced teasingly toward her.
“Other than Jody,” Cas agreed adoringly, “But I didn’t realize the significance of my feelings for you until it was too late. My heart was so full of you I could hardly call it my own,” he softened, reaching for Dean’s cheek.
“Cas,” Dean melted into the touch.
“You taught me many things, Dean,” Cas’ eyes watered as he spoke, glassing over more and more with each word, “But learning how to love, learning how to fall in love with you… has been the most life-altering and precious experience of my existence.“
“Damn…” Dean looked at Cas as if there were no one else in the room but them, “I thought my speech was good…”
“Not a speech, Dean,” Cas’ lips tilted up, “A vow.”
“Right,” he absentmindedly inched forward, lost in Cas’ teary, blue eyes.
“Might wanna get rings on them or they’re going to skip the next few parts,” Sam joked with Jack, who grinned brightly.
Dean looked over his shoulder quickly before letting out a soft laugh and accepting the ring Sam slapped against his chest in fond amusement.
Cas thanked Claire quietly before the two were facing one another again.
They slipped them onto the other’s finger with little showmanship. Just a simple action bringing a warm smile to their faces as they did it.
“I pronounce you married,” Jack announced excitedly, “You may kiss now.”
They laughed as they each stepped in, reaching forward and finding the other going willingly into the embrace. Their lips met and the sound of cheers and whistles blurred their senses for a short moment of absolutely indulgent happiness.
Dean was glowing as he pulled back, and in a sudden need to be close to him, found himself leaning in to wrap an arm around Cas’ waist.
“I love you,” he whispered into the Angel’s ear softly before kissing him on the cheek and turning toward his family’s awaiting gaze, “Let’s fucking celebrate!”
“Alright,” Sam clapped him on the shoulder.
“Drinks!” he threw his arms up.
“Okay, what are you? A Viking?” Sam laughed as he pushed passed to grab drinks for the wedding party.
Dean turned to the most open emotion he had ever seen in the Angel’s eyes.
“Don’t cry,” Dean laughed, “I’ve been barely holding it together this whole time!”
“Can I just…” Cas looked overwhelmed, “Can I kiss you again?”
“Cas, you’re my husband,” Dean wrapped his arms around him, “I don’t think you really have to ask.”
As soon as the words fell, Cas shot forward, and Dean’s hands settled over the former Angel’s face, barely containing a smile as they kissed.
“I love you,” the hunter whispered as their lips parted, foreheads bumping together lightly.
He couldn’t seem to stop saying it, but judging by Cas’ expression, that wasn’t a problem for him.
“I love you too,” Cas reached for the back of his neck, tilting up to press a small peck to the other man’s temple before reluctantly stepping back.
“Okay, here we go,” Sam announced as he ascended the makeshift stage and began handing out drinks.
“I’d like to say a few things,” Sam addressed the group awkwardly, brows raising upward to give him a nervous sort of boyish look, “Dean and Cas have always excelled at nonverbal communication-”
“We don’t stare that much!” Dean interrupted, but Sam was ready.
“Yes, you do,” he brushed him off quickly, “And watching that for years, I have picked up on something about them,” he looked back at the pair fondly, “No one sees Dean like Cas does, and I hope I don’t sign my own death warrant saying this, but,” he looked straight at his brother as he added, “I think that’s exactly what Dean has always needed. Someone to see through the mask and the bravado and just… see the real him,” Sam took a few steps to the other side of the stage, “I won’t lie, Cas and I were slower to build- mostly because I was… we’ll just say ‘not my best’, but I couldn’t ask for a better brother-in-law, a better friend… He’s always brought out the best in Dean, always believed in him- sometimes when no one else did… sometimes when no one else would- but that’s what always got him where he needed to be. It’s no secret that Dean and I have been through it. We don’t get many good things and when we do, we rarely get to keep them,” his eyes found Eileen’s and she smiled softly, “Love was never something either of us allowed ourselves to want, but we somehow got there anyway, and I don’t think I ever said it, but I want to thank you, Cas- thank you for loving my big brother and for never giving up on him,” he locked eyes with the misty, blue gaze and a tear slipped down his own cheek unguarded, “To Cas, and to Dean, and to finally using your damn words…”
He chuckled as he held his glass up, first to the couple then toward the rest.
“Cheers,” he added with a quick flash of a smile before the drink rising to his lips obscured it.
“And to everyone’s horror- especially my own- it’s my turn,” Claire grimaced and the rest laughed, “Ughhh I should kill you for this…” she flashed a quick and exaggeratedly fake smile their way.
Turning back to the page in her hand, she cleared her throat, “I like to credit myself for Cas and Dean getting their heads out of their asses. Not only did I literally push them into their first kiss-“
“We don’t count that one!” Dean laughed.
“You’ve got the picture in your wallet, don’t lie,” she shot back, “Anyway, not only did I do that, but I’m pretty sure I got them together, and then I blackmailed Dean into proposing while I was still visiting instead of waiting. So, really, this should be a celebration for me finally getting these two to stop making googly-eyes and do something about it!” everyone laughed and she turned to them with a growing sincerity, “But honestly, I’ve never seen either of you this happy before, and it’s just crazy to be here after everything…”
“Yeah, it is,” Dean met her gaze with understanding as Cas tightened his hold around the hunter’s waist.
“To Cas and Dean,” she shook off the emotion brewing within and turned a toothy smile to the rest before downing her whole drink.
Charlie started up some music from a sound system in the corner and Dean turned a cocky smirk toward Cas.
“Ready to dance?” his voice dropped low, pulling an adoring gaze from the other man.
“I told you, I didn’t want to,” Cas sighed, “But I can’t deny my husband on our wedding day…”
Dean pulled him in as they reached the area of the barn behind the seating that was cleared.
“I love hearing you say that,” he practically growled into Cas’ ear.
“Mmm,” Cas hummed, “We have a long time until we make it back home, getting worked up now would be torture.”
“Who said I was getting worked up?” Dean grinned as they swayed to the music.
“I was referring to myself,” Cas gravelled.
“Well, now I’m getting worked up,” Dean’s eyes glinted mischievously.
“Hold that thought,” Cas leaned in, pressing his lips to Dean’s for a moment as they continued to move slowly, getting lost in their own world until the music stopped and the group clapped joyously around them.
The next hour was a bit of a blur as everyone approached the pair to wish them well or what was more often the case, tease them a bit, until they found themselves seated at a table together. Their fingers were laced and Dean’s arm was slung around Cas’ shoulder.
“What are you thinking?” he asked as the former Angel rubbed circles on his hand with his thumb.
“I’m just trying to take it all in,” Cas found his gaze, “I don’t want to forget anything…”
“You don’t forget things,” Dean’s lips pressed softly to Cas’ shoulder.
“I’m human now, though…” his voice quieted, “I just don’t want to forget any of this…”
The look in his eye was so earnest and sweet, but twinged at the corners with actual fear. Dean found himself looking around.
“Patience! Alex!” he called to the girls seated nearby, “Got your phones?”
The two nodded and fished them out of their bags.
“Cool,” he nodded with a sideways smile, “Film everything…”
The pair of girls jumped up with a purpose as Cas’ eyes cut toward him in surprise.
“If you start to forget, we’ll have it to watch…” Dean remarked softly, “As many times as you want.”
“Dean,” the former Angel melted.
“Now, come on…” he pulled the other to his feet, “Let’s dance.”

Yeah, Should Have Seen That Coming: Saileen Bachelor Party Ficlet
Congrats to the soon to be Mrs. and Mr. Leahy💚💍!!!
Sam had the brilliant idea to have their bachelorette/bachelor parties on the same night. Two separate parties, at least a week before the wedding to avoid any last minute mishaps (learning from the mistakes of Dean and Cas' party last month). They had thought of everything, Sam even remembered to invite Adam this time. They were each going to have a perfect party with no unforseen issues, because they both deserved a night of fun.
Dean was granted the privilege of being Eileen's best man maid of honor, so he shut down his bar that night, and threw her an absolute rager. He even dragged the stripper pole back out at Eileen's request (though Dean thinks it was a shame Cas wasn't going to be there to use it) and set up a mechanical bull. So of course Cas was chosen to be Sam's best man, and for his party, Sam just wanted a normal, quiet night. Just board games, beer and burgers at the bunker (Crowley was pissed he got stuck at Sam's instead of Eileen's, but Garth was thrilled about the prospect of playing Monopoly). So that's exactly what Cas planned to give him. He makes sure he's got Sam's favorite beer, burgers from the place that makes his favorite vegan burgers, he's taken care of everything. And all Sam has to do is grab the board games from one of the storage rooms.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well, considering Sam and Cas are involved?
Everything.
(read the rest under the cut)
They ended up on a hunt before the party even began. Sam had accidentally bumped into a shelf in the storage room, knocking over a cursed object, and then picked it up without thinking("Sam why did y- "It just looked like a piece of wood!" "It's not, its cursed it's called t-" "Well that doesn't help me now, Cas!"). And so it turned out, they unleashed an ancient curse that if they didn't break by midnight, the world would be "shroud in 5 billion years of darkness". But Sam won't let anyone call Eileen or Dean ("I just don't want to ruin her party!" "Sam the world could en-" "Yeah, but that happens all the time. How often do you get to have a bachelorette party?")
So it was up to Sam, Cas, Jack, Crowley, Garth, and Adam (Kevin was already halfway up the steps and on his way to Dean's bar before Sam even finished explaining what happened).
And a lot can go wrong over a few hours, especially if the threat of the end of world is looming over you.
In the past three hours, they managed to successfully tear apart the entire archives looking for lore, had Jack fly them to three different states to wake up three experts on the subject, fought and killed one of Crowley's old nemesis who had an ingredient they needed for a spell, were briefly transported to a different dimension, twice (Jack was able to get them home, but they had to go back because Garth forgot his phone). Then of course they summoned the wrong ancient god, then had to figure out how to kill them, before they eventually summoned the right one needed to break the curse.
At that point, after some encouragement (yelling) from everyone, Sam finally gave in and tried to facetime and text Eileen, finally allowing Cas to call Dean too.
But neither of them answered because Eileen was currently in the middle of an intense drinking contest between Rowena, Mary and Kevin (who arrived 2 hours ago and mentioned nothing about the curse), while Dean (totally sober mind you) learned he was amazing on the stripper pole, as Charlie, Kaia and Claire cheered him on, and Jo along with some of Eileen's hunter friends were trying out the mechanical bull.
So they were on their own, and quickly running out of time.
But unfortunately for them, the three hours of chaos was a complete waste, since they discovered a bit too late that lore was wrong. Because the weapon that was supposed to kill the God was clearly not working since it seemed to be chasing them around just fine, with a giant stake in it's neck. So they hurriedly decided splitting up would be the best course of action, and they scattered in all directions as they ran into the woods(where they had landed when Jack zapped them back) trying to confuse the God.
Which had been a complete mistake ("It can clone itself!" "Yes, thank you Sam, I hadn't noticed").
And currently, Crowley and Garth were both knocked out by some of the God's clones, and Jack was nowhere to be seen, leaving just Sam and Cas to fight with what they had (2 guns, an angel blade, and half a flask of holy water, so nothing)
Now there was only five minutes until midnight and the God had them surrounded, as it threw their useless guns and blades halfway across the forrest.
And only one thought rang through Sam's mind.
"Eileen is gonna kill me if the world ends before the wedding"
"Well if you hadn't touched th-"Cas started
"Thanks Cas, you really know how to make a guy feel better" Sam yelled back, swiflty cutting him off.
He glanced back up to see the God (who's name Sam had already forgotten) inching closer, holding them in place as they were readying themselves to smite them.
Sam took one last look at Cas and the reality of the situation finally set in. This was it.
All Sam wanted was one normal night, but now the world's ending again and he doesn't even know the name of the God ending it.
They were screwed. Now he'll never see Eileen again and they'll nev-
Suddenly a wooden stake was shoved through the back of the God's neck with a crunch, sending them crumbling to the ground. It burst into black flames, disappearing.
And standing above them in a, 6 inch heels, covered in glow stick bracelets, and a bride sash, was a very tipsy Eileen.
She and Dean helped pull them to their feet, and Sam could cry at the sight of her (and he did).
As soon as he was standing, Sam frantically began rambling and signing trying to explain and apologize all in one breath. But Eileen simply took hold of his hands, stopping him in his tracks.
"You were supposed to use sheep's blood, idiot" Eileen signed with a smirk.
Then she grabbed by the shoulders, yanking him down into a deep kiss.
"Wait how did-where did yo-"Sam started as he broke away. He quickly takes in his surroundings spotting Claire and Kaia helping Garth to his feet, Rowena trying to wake Crowley, and Charlie and Jo who are probably trying to convince Adam not to leave. He finds Dean, Cas and Jack off to the side huddled close together, while Dean probably tells his husband how much of a dumbass he is.
"Jack flew to the bar, and we read through your's and Cas' texts. We were able to piece it together from there, and apparently you guys can't read. Maybe leave the hunting to the pros?" Eileen teased, swaying slightly (okay maybe she was a little more than tipsy). Sam tightly wrapped his arms around her, keeping her steady, as a smile grew on his face.
"I don't deserve you" Sam sighs, cupping her cheek.
"Yeah, you don't" Eileen shrugged with a smirk growing on her lips.
"She's right, you really don't" Dean's voice cuts through as he, Cas and Jack make their way over. Cas punches him in the arm with a fond smile.
"Well, that certainly didn't go as I had planned" Cas huffed.
"Yeah, understatement of the year buddy. But when does it ever?" Sam laughs, feeling a bit of relief.
Then Sam has another brilliant idea, smiling as he turns back to Eileen.
"So my party....was ruined by an ancient God. Mind if we crash your's?"
And an hour later, Cas (much to Dean's delight) is now spinning around on the pole while Dean, Charlie and Jo cheers him on. Crowley, Rowena, Garth and Jack (with a shirley temple of course) are seated at the bar, talking about god knows what. Claire, Kaia, Kevin and surprisingly Adam have just returned from the parking lot, giggling a bit too much. And Sam is now seven shots in, messily making out with Eileen in one of the booths. Eventually they pull away, just sitting in a drunken daze as they stare at each other.
God he can't believe she's gonna marry him. He really is the luckiest man in the world.
And before Sam can relay this sentiment, Eileen downs her glass, signs "watch this", and runs to take a turn on the stripper pole to the thrumming bass.
With a laugh he surveys the bar, watching his family drink and laugh without a care in the world. He spots Eileen and Dean by the pole in the center of the room, heads thrown back in laughter, as Cas and Jack cheers them on. So Sam quickly slides out of the booth and makes his way over, plopping down inbetween Jack and Cas, watching his fiancé and brother dance to the beat like idiots. Heart swelling at the sight of his family.
And yeah maybe this isn't the night they had planned, but it was certainly a night they'd never forget.
(Especially since Cas had shirts made that said, "I survived Sam Winchester's bachelor party")

Valentine’s Day was finally here, and Dean had snuck out of bed early to set up his final surprise. Okay, maybe he didn’t do it alone. He might’ve roped Sam, Eileen, and Jack into helping him, but after an hour of whisper yelling with handfuls of decorations and pictures from the wedding photo album laid out to make sure everything matched, it was finally perfect.
Creeping back upstairs, Dean slipped back into their bedroom and crouched down next to Cas’ side of the bed. “Good morning sleepy head. Happy anniversary,” Dean murmured, pressing a soft kiss to Cas’ forehead.
“Dean,” Cas mumbled tiredly, hand reaching out to tug Dean closer. “I love you.”
“Love you too, handsome. But I’m gonna need you to get up because I’ve got a surprise for you downstairs. Put on something nice, too. Do you remember the baby blue shirt?”
Cas blinked tiredly, rubbing at his eyes before recognition flickered across his face. “The shirt I was wearing at our wedding?”
“Yeah. Put that on and I’ll meet you downstairs,” Dean said, leaning in and pressing a sweet kiss to Cas’ lips.
“Can’t we stay here in bed and cuddle?” Cas pouted, even though he was already getting up.
Dean grinned. Oh yes. That’s exactly why Dean married this beautiful man. “Join me for an hour, and then I’ll bring you back to bed. Deal?”
“God, yes,” Cas said, snagging Dean’s wrist and pulling him in for a long and lingering kiss. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Sighing in pleasure, Dean let himself get lost in the kiss for a few moments before he pulled away. “Come find me,” he said, stepping backwards and blowing Cas a kiss and a little wink before he slipped out of the room.
Ten minutes later, Dean heard the telltale creak of the stairs and he clicked the record into place; smiling as the first notes of the song began to play.
“Dean? What’s going on? Is that our wedding song?” Cas asked, walking around the corner into the living room. But he quickly stumbled to a stop, eyes widening in shock as he saw the beautiful decorations.
The same decorations that had covered The Roadhouse last year. Their wedding decorations. The same white and blue flower bouquets covered the tables. Red and white streamers and confetti that had hung from the ceiling were now draped around their living room. The quirky green and blue plates and napkins with a little breakfast were set out on their living room table, and even the wine they’d picked was placed in a beautiful pink bucket like it had been on their wedding day. To top it all off, a small replica of their wedding cake was in the center of the room, with their names written in swirling icing along the side. Dean and Cas Winchester.
But what had tears welling in Cas’ eyes and slipping down his cheeks was Dean. His husband, standing there in the same suit and beautiful blue tie that he’d worn on their wedding day.
“Dean,” Cas choked out, reaching out for his husband as the emotions flooded over.
“Hey, c’mere my gorgeous husband,” Dean murmured, gently guiding Cas into his arms as he began to sway them softly to the music. Pressing his lips to Cas’ ear, Dean quietly murmured soft sweet nothings as Cas gripped hold of him tightly.
“This is… it’s… Dean, it’s beautiful. You’re beautiful,” Cas gasped, hands grasping at Dean’s lower back as he buried his head into the crook of Dean’s shoulder.
“Do you like it?” Dean whispered. “I wanted to recreate our wedding. To make you my husband all over again.”
“I love you,” Cas sobbed, tears slipping down to soak into the collar of Dean’s shirt as Dean rocked them back and forth. “It’s perfect. I just- I, Dean, I-I love you.”
Tears stung Dean’s eyes, and he pressed his cheek against Cas’ hair as his heart felt like it could burst out of his chest from absolute adoration. “Love you. So much,” he replied, tilting Cas’ jaw until he could press their lips together in the most achingly beautiful kiss they’d ever shared. They remained locked in each other’s embrace for a long time, with soft kisses and tender touches and ‘I love you’s’ repeated over and over again.
Finally, Dean spun Cas softly, tugging him back into his arms and linking their fingers. “Can I have this dance?” Dean asked, swaying them again as the song clicked back to their first dance track.
“Yes. This dance. My heart. It’s all yours,” Cas replied, leaning in to steal another kiss.
Around and around they danced, until Dean reached out and swiped some icing from the cake and booped Cas on the nose; just like he’d done on their wedding day. When he kissed the icing away, Cas held on tight and didn’t let go.

The day starts out pretty unremarkable. Dean wakes up at the crack of dawn to Cas slipping out of bed for his morning jog. He pulls him down for a good-morning kiss that turns into a make-out session that turns into them trading lazy handjobs and then falling asleep in each other’s arms again.
Their actual start to the day is around ten AM, when Cas finally gets up for his jog and Dean gets up for his cereal and a scroll through the morning news. He’s on the look for hunts, mostly out of habit since there’s been very little monster activity since Chuck went and fucked off for good. He doesn’t find anything this morning but that’s hardly a surprise. It’s been a couple of weeks since they’ve been out on a hunt and that inactivity, weirdly enough, is starting to bother him less and less.
Cas comes back from his jog about an hour before noon and with the mildest of prodding convinces Dean to join him in the shower. Afterwards, they throw together a lunch made from yesterday’s leftovers, taking their time eating and playing footsie under the table, because that’s apparently the kind of couple they are.
Usually by this time of day, Cas would be off in the Men of Letters’ library working on translations or cataloging and Dean would be on the phone helping Garth help out young, out-of-their depth hunters or in the garage, working on one of the beautiful but sadly neglected vehicles left behind there decades ago.
Today, both of them are seemingly feeling kind of lazy and so hardly any work gets done. It’s not until late in the afternoon that Dean feels the urge to do something productive and suggests they go out for groceries, which Cas readily agrees to.
The ride into town is quiet. Cas plays his mixtape - the damn thing should be worn out by now and Dean should  long since be sick of it but for reasons too sappy to mention he isn’t - and they sit and listen in comfortable silence. It’s not until they pass the town hall on their way to the supermarket that Cas gets a contemplative look on his face.
“Should we get married?”
Only years of experience behind the wheel prevent Dean’s hands from twitching wildly and veering them into oncoming traffic.
“What.”
Cas looks over, frowning. “I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Is there any reason for us not to get married? We’re already planning on staying together for the rest of our lives.”
“Is there any reason-” Dean wheezes. “What the fuck, Cas? Is this your idea of a proposal?”
“Are you saying no?” Cas asks, mildly curious, as if they’re talking about the fucking weather and not getting married. “Because we don’t have to.”
Dean stares ahead, tightening his grip on the steering wheel. “Are you actually asking?”
“I suppose I am.”
“You ‘suppose’,” Dean mocks. “Gee, Cas, that’s real romantic.”
“Will you marry me?”
Dean pulls over. It’s far too sudden, probably leaving tire tracks in the concrete, and the driver behind them honks his horn loudly as he passes. Dean ignores him, taking a deep breath as he finally turns to face Cas.
“Are you sure?”
He doesn’t really have to ask - Cas wouldn’t have brought it up if he wasn’t sure - but he needs to hear it.
Thankfully, Cas seems to get that. “I want to marry you, Dean. Do you want to marry me?”
“Son of a bitch,” Dean breathes. “I mean - yes. Yeah, I do.”
Cas nods decisively. “Alright then. Now?”
“Now?”
It’s not exactly how Dean imagined this scenario would go (not that he - shut up) but it’s somehow the most romantic fucking thing that’s ever happened to him since Cas first told him he loved him. And hey, this time no one had to die!
They turn around, since there’s no point in going in without (forged) birth certificates. Once they get to the town hall, shortly before closing, they find out that it’s a three-day mandatory waiting period between applying for a marriage license and them actually being allowed to get married.
Cas suggests they use the interim time to pick up wedding rings. They wind up spending the next day driving to Topeka, where they find a couple of silver rings in a pawn shop. They’re tarnished but otherwise in good condition and once they get home, Dean spends the rest of the evening cleaning them while trying very hard not to think about just what they’re for.
The second day, Cas spends out back tending to his garden while Dean almost dials Sam’s number repeatedly before hanging up, torn between wanting to let his brother know that he’s getting married and not wanting to jinx it.
The third day, they head back into town. They arrive at the town hall just after it opens and it’s not until they’re standing in front of the clerk that Dean realizes they don’t have any witnesses. The clerk assures him that they don’t need one for civil ceremonies and the next ten minutes pass in a blur until Dean is being prompted to place the ring on Cas’ finger.
He does so with shaking hands, stilled only once Cas places one of his own on top and gives Dean a patient smile. He’s this calm for a reason, Dean finally realizes.
This doesn’t change anything.
Married or not, they’ve already promised themselves to each other for the rest of their lives. Til death do them part doesn’t even begin to describe it, and in sickness and in health is almost laughable at this point.
This really doesn’t change anything.
Dean’s own hand is still as Cas takes his turn, sliding the silver ring upon Dean’s finger. They say their “I do”s when prompted by the clerk, exchange a short, firm kiss, and just like that it’s over.
They’re married.
*
When Jody invites them to dinner about a week later, they still haven’t told anyone. Sam and Eileen will be there as well as Jack and the girls - it’s a regular family reunion and the perfect chance to announce the big news to everyone.
Dean has a better idea.
“Let’s not tell anyone,” he says. “At least, not before dessert. Let’s see if they notice first.”
They’re in the Impala, about half an hour away from Jody’s place.
Cas shoots him an amused look. “Is this because Sam claimed he always knew we’d get together when we first told him we were involved?”
“No,” Dean lies. He drums his fingers on the steering wheel, seeing Cas still giving him that look from the corner of his eye. “Fine, yes. But he didn’t know, for the record. He just likes to pretend he’s always on top of this shit.”
“He doesn’t like to admit when you’ve surprised him,” Cas agrees.
The conversation ends there but Dean’s plan is apparently agreed upon since once they arrive at Jody’s, Cas doesn’t say a word about their recent relationship upgrade. Jody doesn’t seem to notice anything different, but then Dean didn’t expect her to. She’s not the one they spend most of their time around. Neither do Donna, Alex, Claire or Kaia, none of them surprises. Patience, Dean is less sure about, but she at least doesn’t say anything. Her eyes do linger unusually long but that could mean anything.
Damn psychics.
Sam and Eileen arrive half an hour after Dean and Cas, Jack in tow. This is the real test; Sam and Dean may not spend as much time together in the past few months as they did in the years before but he’s still the person who knows Dean best and would be the most likely to notice a difference.
And yet, nothing.
Dean tries not to feel too smug.
They go through dinner without anyone mentioning it. Dean makes a point of reaching across the table as many times as he can, showing off the ring glinting on his finger. Cas must notice him doing it, judging by the fond exasperation on his face, but he’s the only one.
It isn’t until dessert that Patience breaks, patience (hah) clearly run out:
“Is no one going to mention that Dean and Castiel are wearing wedding rings?”
And all hell breaks loose.
Sam is wounded - mostly over Dean and Cas not telling him before they got married, though Dean can tell some part of it is his pride at not seeing this coming - but he’s over it soon enough, once they explain that it wasn’t a big deal, not some proper ceremony, just a quick affirmation of what they already knew.
“See if I make you Best Man at my wedding after this, jerk,” Sam tells Dean.
“Your wedding?” Eileen asks pointedly.
Jody and Donna offer their congratulations before the conversation can get awkward, and Kaia, Alex, and Patience chime in with theirs as well. Jack looks confused at the whole proceeding, finally asking whether this means there won’t be any bouquet to catch, which only means Dean has gravely failed him in his pop culture education (oh, who’s he kidding, as if half the romcoms Jack has watched didn’t come directly from the recommended tab on Dean’s Netflix account).
Finally, with a pointed elbow from Kaia and a hangdog expression from Cas, Claire mumbles that she’s happy for them. While Dean doesn’t doubt that’s true he also knows that this is more complicated for her than the rest of them, and for the first time he kind of feels guilty about springing this news on everyone.
It doesn’t last long, not after Donna cheerfully raises her glass and proposes a toast to the happy couple and everyone else follows suit. They chant for them to kiss and, blushing outrageously, Dean complies, leaning over to press a quick kiss against Cas’ lips.
“So, who proposed?” Sam asks once the hooting and hollering has calmed.
“Cas did,” Dean says, slinging an arm around his husband’s - his husband’s - shoulders. “And it was the least romantic proposal of all time, you should’ve heard him.”
Cas rolls his eyes. “If I had left it up to you, we never would have gotten married.”
“He didn’t even give me time to pick out flowers,” Dean informs Sam gravely.
“There’s always the vow renewal,” Cas says, the casual statement managing to sound like a threat, and Dean shuts up.
The conversation moves on, the mood noticeably cheerier. As Jack and Sam launch into a story of their most recent hunt, Dean leans against Cas.
“We could have flowers, if you want,” he mutters.
Cas smiles at him, so bright and easy that it makes Dean’s heart stutter. He takes Dean’s hand, rubbing his thumb over the cool silver of Dean’s ring.
“That’s not necessary,” he says. “I’ve got everything I want right here.”
