#and the will has to say that the Sheikah get the sword if he dies
Text
Botw/Totk Zelda is so precious to me. She’s been through SO much.
From being the heir to the throne, her image tarnished by the fact that despite daily rigorous training, she is unable to access the sealing power that is her birthright. Her mother died before she could be taught and her father was not magical in any way, so all he could do was continue to order her to train. When she tries to expand her research in order to help in some other way, since her magic is stubbornly kept locked away, she is berated, constantly gossiped about, and is referred not as the Princess of Hyrule, but rather the ‘heir to a throne of nothing’. No one had faith in her. No one believed in her.
King Rhoam couldn’t understand and had to act as a King, causing Zelda to suffer even more. These are the reasons Zelda doesn’t like Link in the beginning. Not only can she not figure him out, because he won’t say anything, but she thinks he despises her. And she can’t stand to think about how Link accomplished his goal as a mere preteen by being chosen by the sword. Whereas she has struggled daily to access the sealing power.
And then she finally realizes Link’s own determination matches his own and his dedication is one she can relate to with her own life. So she apologizes. She gets to know Link. She asks why he doesn’t speak much and he trusts her enough to confide in her. They bond through the shared fate to seal away the darkness. And then get to know each other as just Zelda and Link.
It’s the first time either of them can truly relate to someone and they find comfort in each other.
So while she did have the support of the Champion’s and Link, all of whom see her commitment and how much she truly wants to help and despised herself for her inability to access her power, Zelda is still trying to handle the rest of the kingdom and her father’s scrutiny. And that’s an insane amount of pressure on someone who already has an entire kingdom worth of pressure already placed onto them from birth. Imagine knowing that your kingdom not only talks down on you but has no faith whatsoever in you. And it just bogs you down as you hate on yourself and continuously blame yourself for shortcomings not in your control.
That’s what Zelda was going through. And guess what? Link failed. The Divine Beasts failed. Zelda failed. Everyone. Failed.
And the reason was because Ganon had far more influence and power than they anticipated.
People go and paint Zelda as a privileged know it all who is completely stripped of any flaws in ToTK— which is completely ignorant of the canon events. It’s an opinion founded on the fact that Zelda’s development in this game is not focused on the flaws of a teenage girl with the weight of the entire kingdom on her twicefold. Instead, ToTK is focused on Zelda’s growth as a leader which is a concept some people cannot understand, as they are stuck on the flaws Zelda worked on as she matured and embraced her new life (aka she isn’t miserable and stuck in the past).
Zelda is a leader who has, in the span of half a decade, put in place new survey teams, a new military, an education system, and drew in more people to repopulate the desolate land of Hyrule. It’s implied that the Sheikah tech was completely cleared from the land for fear of it being manipulated again (if you go on top of Hateno Research Lab the Guardian is legitimately chained down rather than just placed atop the building with minimal support). Zelda traveled and visited the land of Hyrule, met with various people and began to relearn her kingdom through the sparse population that still existed.
Zelda went around Hyrule and did what she could to strengthen the culture of Hyrule and truly make it a kingdom rather than a loosely strung together ghost of a kingdom. She placed monuments with silent princesses. A flower now described as: “This lovely flower was said to have been a favorite of the princess of Hyrule. They were once feared to have gone extinct, but it's not uncommon to spot them growing in the wild.”
And to have a kingdom that actively adores Zelda, who has grown so much as a person and tries so so hard is finally having her effort seen and appreciated by all. Zelda is loved because the entire point of totk is to show us Zelda having everything this time. She was adored by the people. She was finally in a place with herself and her people that she never had before. She had Link, who never left her side and made themselves a home in Hateno (this isn’t even a shipper goggles moment, this is the basic interpretation of the original game and canonical evidence).
Zelda, even back in the past, was given a supportive father figure and a teacher who also represented a mother figure. She continued to be her nerdy self and research Zonai tech, finally gaining the answers of the Imprisoning War that she so adorably gushed about when they found the ruins beneath the castle in the beginning of the game. Her research wasn’t put down nor her theories dismissed. It’s everything Zelda was deprived of in botw. Everything.
*spoilers for totk ending below*
And that’s the reason her sacrifice is so devastating. Because she chose to give up her life, her mortality, everything she has fought to achieve, just to ensure Link, who she has complete faith in, had the Master Sword to finally rid their Hyrule of the darkness. Zelda made that choice thinking there was no possibility of her coming back.
So to completely dismiss Zelda because she is saved by the two parental parents is absurd? Zelda made a choice that would end life as she knew it just to save the home she built back.
There’s also people blaming Zelda for not putting Ganon and Ganondorf together but the thing is that she did have a theory? And she did speak out about her uneasiness of Rauru reaching out to Ganondorf? Which, btw, is an echo of OoT Zelda warning her father of Ganondorf’s evil intent, only for it to be ignored by the king (who dies for his mistake). That sounds familiar, right? Because it should. The Zelda universe is pretty much founded upon reoccurring factors each age that ultimately lead up to a catastrophic event or other tragedy.
Yes, this is rather dull when you look at it from a broad perspective— but that’s the case with a ton of media. It’s in the details and the differences that draw us into the fictional universe of Zelda. People don’t need to love it— nor do they have to abide by these reoccurring factors. In fandoms and such, you can explore different possibilities, swapped roles, darker circumstances, softer fluffier moments, and so on. That’s the beauty of fandoms.
But warping stories and character actions to fulfill a narrative completely opposite of what the canon implications (and actual facts in some cases)… it usually serves the purpose of hating a character. Now, everyone has the freedom to do this. That’s 100% true. But the insane amount of takes I have seen, particularly regarding Zelda in ToTK, led me to write this post that explores her actions and developments from a pretty strict canonical perspective. Obviously, I am biased and not everyone will agree with me. That’s okay.
I simply find comfort that my interpretation of Zelda in ToTK is supported by the narrative, development, and all the characters (including Link). Because everyone adores Zelda. They all see how much she cares and it’s even said by Manny in Botw that everyone is thankful and grateful for the Princess, because she’s the reason everyone (atp) is still around. Zelda is adored by the survivors not only because she kept the Calamity at bay for a century, but also because she spent time and got to know them.
Which is why it’s so hard for everyone to believe that the puppet Zelda causing mayhem was intentionally being malicious. It’s completely out of character. And because of Zelda and Link’s travels between games, they all know who she is at heart. And that is a healing, compassionate Princess who just wants to know the people of Hyrule once again. This isn’t to erase Zelda’s flaws. It deliberately shows us the stark difference between Hyrule before the Calamity and after it. One looked down on her and made her feel incompetent.
This one now cherishes her and sees her for the hard-working girl she is.
It’s all about giving a character everything they were deprived of and then ripping it away from them. It’s a new sort of growth for Zelda’s character. And yet, she has not lost who she is: a nerd who must ramble about her findings. (To link specifically, but like we all know that)
And that is why I absolutely adore her. She’s phenomenal.

“Where did all the Sheikah tech and shrines go?”
… is one of the most annoying questions I’ve seen repeated over and over again by people and theorists. Because the answer is quite literally in your face the entire game if you just pay attention to the details.
There’s actually 3 very obvious reasons for the shrines and towers disappearing. And since I get this question a lot, I’m gonna answer them here:
1. They were repurposed by Robbie and Purah.
This is the most direct answer with evidence you can clearly see. Purah and Robbie are still tinkering with stuff, and the Purah Pad is a perfect example of this. It is very clearly still Sheikah technology. It looks and acts just like the Sheikah Slate, but it’s more refined and streamlined. So it’s pretty apparent that since the events of Breath of the Wild she and Robbie have continued their studies and made improvements on the tech.
Additionally every one of the sky view towers houses guardians underneath. This is very clear in the little cut scene that plays out when you activate one for the first time. Guardian legs pop out, and then apply the appropriate gear to you before launching you into the sky. If you pay attention to Link’s reaction as well, the first time this happens in Lookout Tower he is visibly FREAKED OUT by this. No doubt a reflexive defensive reaction to his time fighting Guardians in the last game.
Tumblr media
So the tech isn’t entirely gone. It’s been repurposed.
2. It was dismantled on Zelda’s orders.
This is not explicitly said, but it’s heavily implied. Zelda has been traveling with Link since the first game and helping to rebuild Hyrule. Part of healing from a calamity is removing evidence of that calamity so that people can move on with their lives and not be reminded of the thousands that died.
This is also probably because Zelda feels guilty about the role she played. After all she was the one who unearthed the guardians in the first place. She set up the very same guardians that eventually got possessed by Calamity Ganon and DESTROYED THE WORLD.
Also, having finally stopped the calamity it is in Hyrule’s best interest to remove technology that could still be beneficial to your enemies. The last thing they need is another calamity happening that reactivates all the dead Guardians… again. (More on this later)
You can find evidence of this in many places where shrines once existed now only exist an empty patch that resembles the shrine’s shape. These patches are clean, do not disturb the landscape much at all, and it seems much more controlled and surgical compared to what I’m about to talk about in the next section. I believe these patches are where Zelda’s construction team are responsible for dismantling the shrines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it’s pretty clear to me that healing the land from the calamity by removing them and any other Sheika tech/shrine would be a priority.
3. Ganon’s Gloom destroyed the rest.
This is also not explicitly stated, but is pretty clear when you examine the facts. Gloom is extremely dangerous. Far more dangerous than the calamity’s corruption. Gloom saps your life away and is the reason all weapons in Hyrule just suddenly decayed when the upheaval happened. It’s so powerful that it literally decayed the Master Sword! The most powerful weapon in the Zelda franchise got instantly destroyed by gloom from Ganon’s initial attack.
Tumblr media
So taking this evidence and extending it further… what’s something Ganon would want to get rid of? How about something that could be used against him? Like, say…. The divine beasts and the guardians… or how about a magical shrine that could resurrect a fallen hero?
His calamity form was destroyed by the technology initially, and while he took his revenge by possessing them the next time, the divine beasts were eventually ripped away from his control by Link and the sages were able to fire upon him yet again. So that tech is dangerous and Ganon isn’t dumb. He’s not gonna risk the same mistake happening again.
And there is evidence of this as well. If you travel around Hyrule, in many of the places where Sheikah shrines once existed you will often find bandit camps or giant gloom infestations with sink holes into the depths.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what happened to the divine beasts and the rest of the Sheikah shrines and tech that wasn’t repurposed or dismantled? Ganon’s gloom destroyed it.
Conclusion.
I know that it’s frustrating that there aren’t many reference to these things by NPC’s. It could easily have been handled by a couple lines of dialogue by a few random characters here or there. But to be honest I look at this as just another puzzle left by the developers.
Like so many aspects of the Zelda franchise, it’s often left to you (the player) to piece together clues and small details to form your own conclusions to things. Environmental storytelling is very much a huge part of both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom’s world building. To me the fact that there are so many clues about what happened is an indication that the developers did understand that people would question this.
The problem I’m seeing is that after asking the question “where did all the Sheikah tech go?” people are either too unimaginative or very unobservant, and don’t bother trying to ANSWER that question.
The answer is in the game. It’s all around you. You’ve been walking over it, around it, and diving into it (quite literally) while you’ve been playing.

Hear me out...
Reader who knows about the "someone will die" from the Sheikah Slate.
Reader who ran the numbers, and realized Legend and Warriors were the only ones who had nothing left to guarantee, or even hint that they survived, unlike Time, who has to have Twilight, Wild who has TotK, Sky and Wind who both have to found Hyrule.
Reader who also knows about the grey area, the ones that should survive this journey, but only based on flimsy evidence or who will meet a terrible fate soon enough. Hyrule, and only his game guide stating he is destined to become a great king, Four and the Palace of the Four Sword.
Whether they know this through playing the games, reading the comic and being isekaied, or having some sort of gift of prophecy, they know about this.
And they're determined not to let it happen.
If the heroes die, game over. Reader isn't the protagonist. They're a sidekick with all the death flags raised.
A Reader who is determined to take the place of whoever will die on this journey, because they can't let it be any of the boys. The world is better off if it's them, and not the boys, right?
And if they were isekaied as a human, a Chain of Links blaming themselves. For not seeing the courage hidden in a human. For not having the wisdom to see beyond the surface. For not having the power to stop this. For allowing their prejudices to get in the way of seeing the signs.
And on top of that, a Reader who plays into the prejudices. Who acts like a "big, scary, greedy, traitorous human", because maybe they can soften the blow of grief if they make themselves somebody nobody would grieve over. Reader whose words will conflict with their actions, saying "I don't like kids", then raging at a monster for going near one. Maybe Reader wasn't even ready to die. They're still scared to the end, but so determined. They still have family back home, they still had plans for the future. But, they're probably assumed dead anyway. What does changing a false into a truth even do? They notice these thoughts, and go through sleepiness nights so their brain won't even have the energy to think them...
Anyway, remember to get 8 hours of sleep and drink some water as well, dehydration is bad for you.
I've actually thought of that idea before of a character with the "nothing to lose if I die" attitude because if the the Hero dies, it's game over.
However, I think that Link (any of them would do) would be able to see through their act because they're perceptive power combined would be too high for Reader to hide all their intentions and lies.
And I had to say one thing, I think Reader would still pay attention with Time as well. Because it's heavily implied that he died young and we know that he died with regrets. The fact that Twilight exists isn't necessarily enough to stop that. In fact, it might be the very thing that could cause it.
Meaning, Reader has to do double the effort to not only keep the Old Man alive, but to also focus on any of the other boy's blind spots as well.

A comprehensive and detailed timeline about the ancient past of totk
Okay I was going to append this to someone else's theory post but it got out of hand size wise and that's a tad rude so I'm making my own.
(Part 1) (long post)
Totk ancient history, let's go!
So! What do we know about the botw timeline, first?
Ancient sheikah! They've existed since the beginning of hyrule, but these lot were scifi. They supposedly took inspiration partly from the zonai before they (the zonai) died out. They built all the tech to fight calamity ganon. (and presumably improve their quality of life, but we don't see much of that)
Calamity ganon. First appearance 10k years ago. Second appearance in botw (technically 100 years ago? Not important, he didn't leave and come back). Zelda (or rhoam or impa) say it gave up its mortal from to be a giant goo pig. Both attacks were foreseen by sheikah seers.
Rito and zora existing together! This is very important! Rito originally evolved from zora in wind waker, so they've never existed together.
Them existing together, along with basically everything else about botw lol, proves we're working with a merged timeline. Gang's all here!
A divine beast (probably) took that chunk out of hebra peak. Lol. Lmao, even. Most likely to be ruta or medoh.
The duelling peaks are split in their artwork (the observatory and sword trial chamber). Rumour (npc gossip) has it a dragon flew through and split them in two.
The sheikah knew about the master sword. Somehow installed... Whatever the sword trials are. Also the master cycle, which, heck yeah, wish totk had that, hand built stuff isn't a fraction as good or cheap.
The sheikah built the shrine of resurrection. Even in botw, it's said it was built over a spring of healing water.
Now, let's briefly cover what we learned in totk.
The zonai! Of course! We learn a lot from the tear flashbacks. They descended from the sky to earth to 'found hyrule' (lmao) with their secret stones that boost powers. Already a dying race at that point. Rauru and mineru are the only ones we ever see. They're guarded and served solely by hylians.
Sonia, a priestess (of at least the triforce if not hylia), blood of hylia. She was one of the people first greeting the zonai, which tells us they descended in that generation.
The rito and zora are already there! The timelines are already merged! We see the ghost of what the sheikah took inspo from with the zonai animal masks.
A gerudo sage! Despite the gerudo still being led by ganondorf... That must have been fun. Likely the ruler of the gerudo after ganon is defeated, which must have been a Trial and a Half in THAT political landscape.
The duelling peaks are... intact. This lends a lot of credence to the dragon theory!
There are no floating islands in zeldas time. This implies either the cloud barrier is intact and zonai still lived up there for a while, or the whole zonai race went to earth and brought their islands with them.
The great plateau walls are already there. Hylian design.
The hero's aspect. A half hylian, half zonai hero. This confirms that the hero can be reborn into bodies that aren't purely hylian (or, well.... We'll get back to that). It also could not be more clear that it's the hero from the calamity tapestry! Even has a pointy face where zelda has flat. Booty shorts/skirt. The red hair is important.
Ganon has been reborn, zelda arrived via time travel, but there's no hero? Rather, the only one to defeat him named link is our totk boy 10k years later.
The zonai temple of time is on the plateau. Where the landmass under it comes from I DO not know.
The zonai temple of time is currently not really very close to the plateau. This implies islands can drift. This isn't relevant but is cool.
We get no explanation for the zonai ruins in the jungle. Which is a crying shame. Rauru never ever goes to the jungle. The best we get is the dragons head quest. Or the labyrinths! Well... I'll get back to that as well.
The depths, the zonai mines, zonaite. Despite being from the clouds, the zonai get their powerful metal, the one named after them, the stuff they make everything out of, from the deepest, darkest depths of hyrule (literally lol). The only other place zonaite can be found is some caves in the sky.
The distinctive swirl of zonai magic above shrines perfectly matches rauru's final spell. The shrines were constructed by/for rauru and Sonia, said to help 'seal the darkness and prevent it encroaching on hyrule'. Underneath each one is an inactive light root, which, when activated, becomes surrounded by the only hylian flora in the depths. Hilariously, you can pick up the actual shrines in pebble form and cart them around.
Unfortunately, one can only install a single read more, so I'm going to make it a new post.
Topics I intend to cover:
How the timelines fused and the state of it currently
Possible origins of the zonai and how long they stuck around
The ancient hero and what it means for the timeline
The relation between the sheikah, the zonai, and the hylian king
The state of hyrule 10k years ago, politically
The original sages being the blood ancestors of every new sage, but using the champion voice actors. Also population statistics
Ganondorf v calamity ganon v phantom ganon v the blights v the depths (there's a lot of ganon)!
What this means for age of calamity...
My best attempt at covering everything from the fusion of the timelines to the events that start breath of the wild, sticking as close to canon and as far from headcanon as possible.

okay so since there are a few hylia’s ( i can count about four ? 2 new & 2 from mutuals on side blogs or side muses … im sure there will be more , hell i wanna write a hylia too lol ) so imma write out how ray actually feels about hylia as clear as i can . i don’t really have a problem with hylia myself ? my only problem with her is her being added late into the games but skyward sword is old like me now so im over it . ( i do dislike that we just forgot demise but imma pretend he’s still here hush— @harbingered for my demise 👀 i will pay attention to him i swear )
ray HATES hylia . perhaps the most out of the gods & deities of the world . he curses her & blames her for a lot of things even when she clearly isn’t to blame . he uses her like a scapegoat . someone to point the anger he feels at when there is no one else to blame but himself . he’ll blame her for the troubles zelda goes through , or link or even ganondorf . because he knows hylia . seen her . felt the sting of her magic . saw her bring up the humans to their safe haven in the sky & leave him down there . she didn’t care .
as a child he was taught to worship hylia, as all the children of skyloft settlement were. his family had small statues of her that they gave offerings too . he would pray to her just as his mother told him to . so he was fine with her … maybe a touch annoyed — but that was mostly towards his mother being quite religious & making him repeat hail hylia when he was naughty ( which was often af )
upon being forced into the ancient battle ; his views were forcibly shifted by his father . not by any commands but more due to his father talking about how hylia cares not for him nor any other demons . lamatar believes demise would do right by the demons & monsters ( was that true ? who knows ) . he would beat this idea into ayrin until he began to think it himself .
“ hylia doesn’t care about me. if she did, she would’ve stopped me from joining this war . she wouldn’t have me here …mama says hylia loves us all but no one loves me. she doesn’t either .”
continuing on, ayrin was stuck by the goddess blade causing a horrible scar that glows similarly to TP! ganondorf’s scar. due to it being a holy blade , it couldn’t go away as easily as death or other wounds for the demonic weapon & he was out of battle for weeks. ( visual ref of rays scar here ! ) i have been debating it be hylia who struck him , but it can just be the first link . regardless , he sat there — scared & angry , not just because he failed his father , but hylia hurt . her blade hurts so so much . hylia is pain .
further down the timeline ; he continues to see princesses & queens struggle with their magic or are forced into horrible situations of the cycle born of demise . he sees link , so young forced into battle & losing his childhood only to become a shell . he’s seen ganondorf turned into a monster of anger & greed for what was once a king has become nothing but a pig . if hylia stayed a god perhaps things would be different . perhaps not . regardless, he blames them all : the golden goddesses , hylia & demise . none of them are free from his hate .
but hylia worship has grown strong again by botw & by then — he is a tired , cynical old man . he works hard to make sure his solders are ready for the war that is coming against calamity ganon . he sees the princess struggle to awaken her powers . he scoffs at her & wonders if the blood of the goddess is finally gone from tainting the royal family.
& he prayed to hylia to save them from the calamity when the calamity came & took over all the sheikah technology & his men died trying to get to akkala .
& she did not answer .
so for the hylia rpers i totally understand if you’re like “ damn he a hater idk if i wanna interact “ because he’s never ever gonna warm up to her . also if you wish to discuss what happened between them during the ancient battle please feel free to DM me ! my default does not need to be canon minus 1: ayrin / bby ray going to the war & 2: ray being struck goddess blade . those two are the only requirements — im flexible with anything !

im actually going to tear into totk’s dragon’s tears/ memories rn bc i remember feeling distinctly unsatisfied with them when i got all of them so im just going to write some general bullet points about them, about what i dislike or maybe what i do actually like about them, leaving out both master sword scenes and the mummydorf one because i’m here to talk about the stuff in the past not that
- off the bat (i play this game in english btw so all of this is based on the english text and translation i am aware some stuff is slightly different in other languages) im not really a fan of how the descriptions of all of the tears is just a literal description of what happens?? i think my issue with it is that some of the text is a little bit too in depth, as in it just tells you literally everything about the scene. this might be nitpick-y but i personally dont like it
- what’s up with zelda saying ‘but that must mean...!’ at the end of the scene. is it suggesting that she’s made the realization that rauru and sonia are the first king and queen of hyrule? because they literally tell her that like ten seconds before. i guess it’s suggesting she’s realizing she’s in the past but... idk the texts says ‘she’s left startled by a suspicion that she’s heard those names before’ yeah theyre the first king and queen of hyrule?? they tell her that. they tell her their names and that they are the first leaders of hyrule is she just now connecting the dots that she’s in the past? that’s what the next cutscene implies. but all of the surrounding dialogue and the description don’t suggest that that’s what she’s realizing i feel like this was kind of muddled in the translation
- why did sonia elbow rauru he was just standing weird he didnt say anything this isnt a nitpick im just confused. is it because he’s not being very empathetic towards what zelda’s going through? she elbows him and then she goes and talks to zelda why even elbow rauru. ordinarily you elbow someone like that if you mean for them to go do something why elbow someone if you’re going to do the thing you want anyways
- why doesnt zelda offer to help with the purah pad or anything like that. what happened to her sheikah tech fascination from botw. not even as someone actually familiar with the technology who could give mineru some points as to how it works
- what are sonia and zelda doing behind rauru when he shoots that insane fucking beam at the mulduga swarm they’re clearly doing something with their stones but like... are they amplifying rauru’s power somehow?? what do time powers have to do with the beam of light i dont- what were they doing please the text description only mentions him using his powers so are sonia and zelda just... supporting his powers? idk man
- dragon tear #5 is a whole can of worms with its worse-than-oot reenactment of that one scene from oot. why the focus on sonia and her tear btw. i mean yeah she dies to motivate rauru and zelda but like. why not aim for the new girl who probably doesn’t know how to use it as much and is probably more likely to be separate from the king who can shot insane lasers. im really not a fan of this scene for how strongly the game sides with rauru and zelda being passive and judgemental but ganondorf is literally the best part of it there’s a lot of character in just how he picks up his sword and stands up to leave
- putting memories 6 and 7 together just because of how there was just. no fucking care put into the idea of zelda learning to use her time powers. memory 6 zelda talks about wanting to use her time powers and sonia gives her tips on how she could use it and visualize the use of it and then in memory 7 she can just use it perfectly with great control and timing. why even bother talking about her nothing yet understanding how to use it when the very next scene she just uses it like it’s nothing. how much time has passed we get nothing to show us zelda trying to practice this power just. nope. she’s good she can use it perfectly. also more awkward dialogue sonia saying ‘what a picture zelda paints of him’ as she is. looking directly at zelda. change the line to like, ‘what a picture you paint of him’ she is literally looking right at zelda so why would she say it like that
- generally i feel like memory six should have been before 4 and 5 (4 being where she uses some power to... support??? rauru and it being before memory 5 so that there isnt this weird break in between the memories concerning ganondorf.) memory 6 does not have anything to do with memory 4 or 5 so just put it earlier so there isnt a weird shift in focus between the two big ganondorf scenes
- good god they introduce the idea of sonia and zelda being aware of ganondorf using a fake zelda but theres literally nothing about it having been a problem or them having experience or like. anything. they just TELL you that they know and suggest that it’s been like. a thing for a bit??? also obligatory ganondorf’s face model rigging is fucked comment he’s still the best part
- the pacing of these memories is just weird in general, memories 7 and 8 being separate but the same scene is strange when other memories are long as fuck but cover one event each, plus theres clearly barely any passage of time between memories 7 and 8 it almost feels like they were split up to fill space or just because otherwise it’d be... too long? man idk
- ‘queen sonia needs you!’ girl she is DEAD good fucking luck doing anything to help her
- ganondorf’s horse and its armor both look sick as fuck i really wish you got to see more of it outside the memory it appears in
- everything about the original sages honestly sucks. they aren’t characters they’re just walking macguffins. they have no names and are not relevant or mentioned or make any appearance until they are needed by the story. why does the zora sage talk about getting word about the attacked gerudo village in this scene when like. they’ve all met up and have clearly. been together for a bit. when she gives them the news it’s clearly the first they’ve heard of it... but... why would she wait until this moments to give this info unless for the benefit of the player watching the scene. why does the ZORA sage have this news and not... the gerudo sage?? what’s with the masks. they’re all made of zonaite or whatever sure theyre gifts from rauru but like. i hate that it kind of denotes them being subservient and lower than him and the zonai. honestly i really hate this scene in general mostly because of the uncomfortable showing of how rauru absolutely holds power over them and despite them being leaders as well they are expected to be wholly blindly loyal to him. rauru only gives them these stones when he needs their aid and they swear loyalty too him soon after but you also see that sonia and mineru have stones, too, so they’re clearly withholding these things despite it being kind of reasonable for him to give each race their own secret stone as further proof of their pact? there is so much shit to be said about the imperialistic themes or whatever in this fucking story and i really hate it
- i do kinda like how the next scene shows you that the one rock in the corner of that first hidden room in the forgotten temple is sonia’s grave
- zelda’s phrasing and description of how she and link found ganondorf is weird to me ‘he’s still alive’ ‘he lives on’ girl that was a mummy. he was not moving until you got there. he’s undead at best as far as you know. this is def a nitpick but eh. also the reliance on link is a... bit odd when zelda does not actually know that link is safe until she gets the master sword. its fine but still. also her shell-shocked expression after rauru talks about her being in the past for a reason is a bit... it doesn’t fit her emotion it’s kind of similar to the expression she had when sonia was killed
- the memory about the imprisoning war starts with practically the whole story up until now being repeated back to you by mineru with a decent amount of bias on mineru’s part and while it’s fine because of some of the extra stuff you learn but it does a lot more telling rather than showing when it comes to the actual imprisoning war and... idk the whole thing about their ‘fight’ kind of falls flat when you don’t actually see any fighting you just see that the sages have gotten their asses beat. i think it would have been a little interesting if in the god-awful repetitive sage-awakening scenes they had actually showed you the og sages fighting ganondorf instead of just. slow-mo freeze-frames for whatever. once again ganondorf if the best part of the scene
- the rest of the memories are fine idc
i get the feeling that the japanese-to-english translation was either all-around rough or somehow rushed, because some of the phrases in the game as well as some of the dialogue is really awkward and... could have been better. i don’t know how it works but it feels like a lot of it was very literal, direct translation and no one at noa thought that it ought to be tweaked just a little bit
these memories also do a fuck-ton of telling rather than showing and it really is like they don’t really trust you to connect the dots, and some of it does come off like they either didn’t want to make more memories or ran out of time or something. i felt like the memory of ganondorf just summoning his monsters and riding on his cool horse could have been a bit longer to actually show us the forces of hyrule fighting him and having a hard time with it
a lot of the character animations doesn’t have a whole lot of personality to them, ganondorf is the character who had the most distinct and interesting movements. rauru and sonia had their... singular movement (rauru putting a hand to his chin and sonia taking zelda’s hands) and zelda was kind of just... standing around and reacting to stuff, and neither mineru nor any of the other sages had any really interesting animations asides from mineru’s coughing fit in memory 16 (plus her reclining chair that was a nice touch). very few of their movements really express anything about the characters besides some really baseline values or traits.
the ordering of some memories is kind of odd, the excessive flashbacks in memory 17 are a bit much, the telling rather than showing, the sometimes awkward dialogue, a lot of the scenes are characters just... talking at each other, you don’t actually see very much of hyrule in the past or any characters beyond the main four, and it really did nothing to actually get me to care about these characters at all.
tldr i dont like totk’s dragon tears
#i didnt want to revisit this game but the memories in totk bother me. once im done with this tho i can go read my new volumes of berserk#salty talks#loz#legend of zelda#totk#literally the narrative of this game dragged the rest of the game through mud for me so im going to complain abt it more#any time i wanted to rewatch a part of a scene i have to sit through a few minutes of bullshit just to get to the point.#these things are so long and barely anything happens in them#half of these cutscenes are just characters standing around and talking theres so little actual character to most of the character movements#ganondorf has the most emotive and distinct movements in all of these scenes#they have the most personality and you get the most variety. with rauru and sonia its just. shes gentle n motherly hes uhhhh arrogant king#honest to god. i miss linebeck. i miss the way he was animated and the sheer amount of personality they gave him in every cutscene#fuck man i miss botw's memories. despite them being shorter (i'm pretty sure) i feel like there was more essence to them. more character#listen. i understand that gamedev is hard and so is writing and animating but like. this game is seventy fucking dollars.#despite him being so disappointingly one-note. ganondorf was the most interesting fucking character in these memories#finding the dragon's tears was fun but actually watching them was lame af#hey remember those posts i made about ph's cutscenes? maybe its the autism but i feel like i couldnt write those paragraphs abt totk#ig just. ph is my special interest and i have a negative bias against totk. if you think im dead wrong about this stuff go ahead.#i dont blame anyone for taking my words with a grain of salt. come to your own conclusions. if oyu like totk's memories cool!#anyways im done bye im gonna read berserk. which actually has a nuanced story and world and characters and a multi-faceted villain#totk spoilers#bitching abt totk

zelink week 2023 | free day
—stories of flying
rated G / set before botw’s calamity / 2268 words
@zelinkcommunity
(excerpt) He’s not a child anymore. Now he’s — now, he’s here, and he’s seventeen years old. He has a sword, the sword, strapped to his back, in its sheath, and even the sheath is glimmering and catching the light from the sky. Moon and stars; the barrier is still up. He’s lying in the grass, hair unbound, snagging a little on the hilt of his blade.
There’s a girl next to him, Zelda. She’s pointing out constellations.
The sky is not completely inaccessible, even through the cloud barrier. Clouds are just water, after all, and even water wound with magic from a race of gods (or something like it) is permeable, eventually. Getting up there is the challenge, and the reason that very few from the surface ever lay eyes on the sky islands after their raising, or on the other creatures that weave invisible trails of magic through the clouds. But it can be done.
Remember: very, very rarely. But it is possible.
It was the ancient Sheikah, of course. They were the architects of the Divine Beasts; Vah Medoh soared the skies below, if not above, and other creations of theirs could go higher. They set their sights for the heavens, before they fell.
So it was the Sheikah, a mage and a researcher, along with a Rito scientist for the added benefit of having wings, who broke the clouds for the first time in thousands of years. They found and recorded the existence of a before unseen dragon with brilliant white scales, spikes and antler-like horns of luminous turquoise-blue, and a glowing golden mane, leaving a long winding weave of magic from the crown of its head. They wanted to investigate, especially given the lack of visible elemental hazards such as with the other three dragons. They also wanted to investigate the floating islands growing in gold, and the tall building rising up and out from the greatest one.
They never got the chance. For either. They fell, because the Sheikah have a habit of falling, and they never went up again, because the Sheikah have a habit of doing that too.
Specifically, it was because both Sheikah died on the expedition. The Rito survived alone by the usefulness of wings to tell the tale to the gossips and the villagers, who passed it down as folktales. Longer-lived versions of the old ones, from back when the white-scaled dragon first ascended to the clouds. Soon after, the First Great Calamity came, and no one tried to reach the sky again. Let it not be said that Mineru of the Zonai was not brilliant, for raising the lands and the secrets of her people to the heavens.
Thousands of years will pass. Ten, to be somewhat exact. It really is a long time. The story of the land in the sky, at least, survives in children’s stories. Who doesn’t want to believe that? Not adults, of course, they’re too realistic. But children can. A little girl named Shamae, at a stable at the foot of the woods, will, for example. Most of the tale about the light dragon will be lost; many already have a hard enough time believing in the three dragons that do descend to the earth, winding just around civilization.
Most.
There was a child who loved dragons, once. Not anymore, for the first thing; he still loves them. Dragons have a way of coming back to you. But once he was a child, and once he lived in a small village where everyone knew everyone and so everyone knew him, and eventually a traveling merchant came in and stories moved as stories do and somehow someone managed to tell him that there might be a light dragon, a fourth one, not just the elemental three that you say you’ve seen because your papa travels all over. This is a very old story and it’s probably not true — well, it might not be true, so don’t go around saying it is, but maybe you’d like to know.
The child did, in fact, like to know. He looked for the light dragon everywhere, after hearing that story. He didn’t find it because he can’t fly (yet), but he liked the story. (Likes. He’s still alive. Don’t worry for him; he loves dragons.) While he was looking for it and not finding it, he was also looking for the other three dragons and finding them, and he was also defeating adults with a sword, and he was also traveling with his papa who was a royal guard who was eventually stationed at the Military Training Camp at the foot of the woods.
And his name is Link. He drew the Master Sword from the woods.
He’s not a child anymore.
“They’re apparently significant to the ancient Sheikah,” she’s explaining, “do you remember the shrines — they have depictions of constellations all over them. Purah only ran into constellations a few times during her studies, but she and I have been using an old telescope lately, going into old Sheikah texts to find their signs. We’re currently in the process of deciphering them as much as we can. We might even be able to find meaning in the constellations shown on the shrines!”
Link nods attentively, eyes on the sky. A star is glimmering brightly, a little to the north; they’re by Lake Hylia now, for reference. The lake is sloshing gently at the green slopes, and the bridge is quiet. The sky is clear. He points up, to the point of light in the sky, in question. It feels vaguely familiar, he might have seen it when he was stargazing as a child.
Zelda follows his hand, looking up. “That one? Hm… oh, that’s the Central star. I think… it’s supposed to be part of our constellation for your sword, but for the ancient Sheikah it was part of a constellation they depicted on the old Sheikah towers — like the one on the Great Plateau, that we haven’t been able to activate. It’s the only one we’ve found, so we aren’t certain that it’s a repeated motif, but we haven’t seen it on the shrines either, so… we’re making guesses.”
She wiggles her fingers vaguely in illustration, a carefree motion of the kind she wants to make more often, and she can’t help her smile. It’s contagious, anyway, now Link is smiling too.
Zelda traces out the shape of a teardrop, connecting stars with her finger. “It was the sign for wisdom. Given the towers, and the shrines, there might be a corresponding sign for courage — that is the attribute associated with the hero — and maybe even one for power, though I’m… not sure where we might find that.”
Link hums in interest. “Was that a teardrop for wisdom?” he signs.
“Yes, apparently.” He makes a face, and Zelda shrugs. “It probably is for the same reason that the Sheikah eye has a teardrop, but I don’t know why. Maybe wisdom is inherently associated with sadness.”
It’s a depressing thought. More so, when you consider that Zelda is Zelda, with the blood of the goddess, and the historic representation of Wisdom.
“It shouldn’t be,” Link signs in response, after considering, and he shifts closer to her and presses his shoulder against hers. His right shoulder, because he’s left the Master Sword on the grass a few feet away. She leans into the touch, because he’s warm and a bit of a wind is picking up, and because it’s nice. She hasn’t done it often, before.
The wind is more than a bit, though. It begins to gust and then to rise, whipping their hair into their faces. Zelda laughs, bright and open, because Link looks funny with his hair flying all over his face instead of pulled back in its ponytail like it usually is. But then she quiets, and she turns to the lake. The water is picking up along with the wind.
Look.
The wind swirls up, and the water sprays from the shore by the sudden motion of the waves, a few droplets landing on their legs and clothes. Light ripples from the center of the lake, just outside the bridge’s shadow, yellow-green and electric. From the glow, a horn breaks the surface of the water. Maybe breaks isn’t the best word; it’s too clean, too graceful, as if the water had parted in that singular form to allow passing.
The light flows down the horn in rivulets of water, or the shape of it, because it doesn’t seem to be wet. Following the tip of the horn, as it bends and winds down to its source, is a nose, electric green scales, two brilliant eyes bathed in green and gazing blue-purple. Then the mane, crackling with energy, tinged yellow-green, flowing over the ears and down to the body’s glinting scales.
A dragon. Farosh. Spirit of the forest, of courage, of the spring.
They’ve both seen them before; they emerge from the lake regularly, on their time, and they’ve both been to the lake. It’s a landmark of the kingdom, named for the goddess. Of course they have.
The thing about dragons, though, is that every time you see them, you can’t help but look. They’re beautiful. Timeless.
They sit on the slope and watch Farosh, in silence, as they ascend. Sparks of electricity forming and balling and unwinding around them. A miniature thunderstorm, alive with energy.
“I used to love dragons when I was a kid,” Link signs, shoulders back, eyes still drawn to Farosh as they descend past the bridge, looping back into the water. The same graceful, weightless dive, just down instead of up. “I mean, I’d see them all the time, and they were also in all these books, and they sounded so cool.”
“What kind of books did you read?” Zelda asks, curiously. “The books I had about dragons were… mainly about them as servants of the goddess.” See, she likes dragons too. Does that sound redundant? It’s hard not to, first of all. But more importantly, she’s always been able to see them — as they circle, circle, circle, never faltering from their same steady unknowable paths through valleys and over mountains. A contradiction, but the good kind, where she thinks she understands even if maybe she really doesn’t, and that’s enough for her.
Still, she wouldn’t describe their appearances in the stories she was told as cool. So she’s curious.
“Uh.” Link scratches the back of his head, a little sheepish. Half of Farosh’s long body has gone through the water. “Picture books? Or adventure. They usually showed up as guiding spirits, or they gave the hero powers or blessings. I think I read one once where the hero flew around on one. But—” He hasn’t read these books in years, not since he pulled the sword and became a knight and had a destiny placed on his back. It’s both nostalgic, a nice memory to come back to, and it’s books he read when he was ten. An accomplished swordsman already, but still ten. He’s seventeen now, of course he’s embarrassed.
Zelda laughs, genuinely, as he signs. She wants to read those books, a little.
“I heard a lot more stories, though. Travelers would talk about them on the road. Like, this story that the Dueling Peaks were split by a dragon, have you heard that? And that dragons live above the clouds.”
“I believe I’ve heard the second one,” Zelda replies thoughtfully. “There are plenty of old legends about a city in the sky, all varying. Dragons get mentioned in at least one version.”
Link nods. “There’s also a story about a… light dragon? White dragon?” He shrugs. “The words get jumbled in translation. It’s meant to be a fourth dragon, other than the three elemental ones. Up in the sky somewhere, so we never see it. It seems pretty obscure, though. If it did exist, it’s probably gone.”
The last of Farosh’s spikes vanishes past the surface of the water, and the lake is still again.
Zelda gazes up to the sky. It’s still clear, but the stars are beginning to fade back into invisibility. The sun is rising in the east. “Stories always come from somewhere. It’s not likely, but… still, I’m glad you told me. It’s interesting to think about, isn’t it? If there could be countless other dragons up there, that we just can’t see?”
“Wonder why it’s only those three that come down, then,” Link signs, propping his chin up on his spare elbow and gazing out over the lake. Farosh is gone now, not even a crackle of electricity left, but the lake is still beautiful in their wake. The first glimmers of sunlight swim across the surface of the water. “Maybe they like us.”
Zelda laughs, more than a little hopelessly. She’s used to divine figures not liking her. “If only.”
Link nudges her lightly. “We saw them. They were there, for us. Maybe the light dragon even is too.“ He cranes his head to gaze up at the sky, tilting his head like he can see through the clouds, then drops back down again and looks at her. “It was nice.”
It’s such an unassuming statement — it was nice, that could be them walking over an uninteresting grassy field or sleeping or something else entirely mundane. But it looks so sincere. And it was nice. It was. The stars and the crisp air and the close hum of energy over the water and Link. It’s the simplest, the easiest, way to describe it. She understands perfectly.
“Yes,” she says, nodding, “yes, it was.”

ooc ; I keep saying I'd write extra about Greis, Link's BFF growing up. I'm just lazy and he's a part-time muse. Here's a bit of a run-down since Greis is fairly important to Link's past.
Tumblr media
Greis is one year older than Link. They were 5 and 4 respectively when Greis was brought to Hateno. Like Link, his father was a knight - his mother a Gerudo.
Greis looks much more like his mother than his father - he has a fair few typical Gerudo traits; stronger physique, red hair, darker skin. His mother rejected him and left him with his father. Greis knows nothing about her, not even her name.
Link and Greis were inseparable as kids, sharing the same dream of being knights like their fathers. Though Greis was always bigger and stronger, Link easily kept up with him. The two of them studied and trained together and often spoke of heading to the training grounds together.
Link would leave first, going with his father to train in different places in Hyrule. While Link was gone, Greis left Hateno to take on his own training - mainly on Death Mountain before venturing into the Gerudo desert, thinking he might find his mother.
Greis did find her, but she continued to reject him. She would not be the one to take the fall if he turned out to be the reincarnation of Ganondorf (fun fact, he is not - he is, however, a descendant of Groose).
Greis and Link reunited when they both turned up in Castle Town, ready to sign up for the royal guard training. Their experiences had changed them, but they were still best friends and ended up bunking together in the barracks.
Greis was always the more outgoing one of them. He would get Link into a fair few shenanigans - gambling with the other boys training as knights, underage drinking, sneaking out of the training grounds to hang out in town.
It's really not that Greis is a bad influence on Link - he just has a very different personality that Link always envied.
Greis was Link's first kiss, first love, and the one to take Link's virginity. They mostly kept their relationship on the down-low, keeping it hidden. Greis never mentioned his feelings to Link, so Link never knew if Greis loved him or not.
After Link became the Princess' guard and pulled the Master Sword, Greis and Link grew distant - Greis stayed in the barracks while Link was stationed at the castle.
Greis would go on to be stationed at the Akkala Citadel, a squad leader. He lost contact with Link, but heard much about his friend's promotion to Hylian Champion.
When the Calamity struck, Greis assured his squad that Link and the Champions would hold out. He had faith in Link and encouraged the others to keep faith. They fought long and brave against the Guardians' assault on the citadel.
Greis died in the citadel, taken out by laser fire. His spirit lingered there until 100 years later, when he saw Link activate the Sheikah Tower. Seeing Link still fighting would give him enough ease of mind to move on.

After a few days of doing practically nothing but playing Tears of the Kingdom, I can say that I’m enjoying myself and it’s a fun game
Here are some Thoughts about the beginning:
- The thing about sequel games is that they have to come up with a reason to take the MC from level 100 where they ended in the first game back to level 0 so the player can do the leveling bit all over again. Kingdom Hearts does those by putting Sora in a coma and into situations where he loses all his old abilities so he can train up new ones.
I really like TOTK’s solution: start Link at level 100. Have Ganondorf reset him back to level 0
It’s a clever way to excuse the level reset and show how much of a threat Ganondorf is.
And I really like how the game leans into it. When you get a new heart container, you’re not growing and getting stronger, the game literally says you’re just restoring what Ganondorf already took from you. Link doesn’t have all his powerful weapons because he’s been using the restored Master Sword, but it’s gone now so he has to start over. He doesn’t have his old Sheikah Slate apps because he upgraded to a Purrah Pad, and his new arm has new functions he has to learn.
Anyway I just think it’s neat.
- Tangentaly related, I think it’s neat that everyone knows who Link is.
The Zelda series doesn’t have that many direct sequels where you play as the same Link again — out of the 20 games in the series, only 5 are (Zelda II, Link’s Awakening, Majora’s Mask, Phantom Hourglass, and now Tears of the Kingdom). And most of those games have Link travel to another world, so even after saving Hyrule, no one knows who he is.
But in TOTK people know him. Some just know of him, some people he hasn’t met yet don’t know that he’s The Link, but everyone has heard of him, and can either clock him by his face or his skill with a blade (and probably the Master Sword if he still had it).
Idk I just think it’s nice. Most Zelda games are about the growth and journey to become the hero, so to have a Link that’s already so established is neat.
And yes, technically he was already The Hero in botw, but he’d been gone for 100 years. Aside from the Zoras and the Sheikahs no one knew who he was, those that knew about the hero 100 years ago assumed he’d died a long time ago, and most of what he’d been had faded to legend. This being known far and wide thing for the things he’s done to help people is different.
- Me desperately melding the Zonai stuff with the events of Skyward Sword: here’s how the timeline can still win

HEY!
Do YOU like the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Do you ALSO like Avatar: The Last Airbender? Even if you don't, do you want to see a cool thing I dreamed up yesterday?
THEN DO I HAVE AN AU FOR YOU!!!!
Map (zoom for better reading):
Tumblr media
OKAY NOTES:
Okay because I want to draw for this but am ✨struggling✨ to learn how to draw. you know. rito and zora and gorons and koroks. in MY artworks of them they shall all be humanOID, if not flat-out human, and the lore in this rant is going to accommodate for that. HOWEVER. If y’all can draw nonhumans and want to make art of this then BY ALL MEANS, draw the canon races! I’d love to see it!
Okay onto the actual lore.
Gerudo are Firebenders, Zora are Waterbenders, Gorons are Earthbenders, Rito are Airbenders, and Hylians can be any type of bender but are most often nonbenders. This is to keep balance because the Avatar is always a Hylian. Additionally, Sheikah are (or were, in the distant past) Bloodbenders, Yiga are Combustionbenders (which doesn’t make much sense if they’re simply corrupted sheikah i know i know but hush hush. this is MY au. i can do what i want.) Koroks are Plantbenders (which i know in atla canon were waterbenders but hush hush. this is MY au. i can do what i want.) and the Gerudo Chief (Firelady, if you will) is a Lightningbender.
As stated above, the Avatar is always a Hylian, but other than that the Avatar cycle follows pretty much the same rules as in ATLA canon. (yes, for the sake of this au i will let linkle be an avatar.) The Royal Family are nonbenders, HOWEVER, the Princesses of the Royal Family were and are the appointed keepers of the Sacred Spirit Realm, able to communicate with and channel the powers of the Great Spirit Hylia, as well as other spirits. (to balance out the hero/princess dynamic, i basically split the powers of the avatar into: 1) link gets to bend all the elements and communicate with spirits on a minor level, and 2) zelda gets to communicate with spirits on a major level and enter the avatar state)
Female Sheikah can and are encouraged to join the AU’s equivalent of the Kyoshi Warriors- The Warriors of the Eye, founded by OoT’s Impa. The leader of the Warriors of the Eye is chosen to be the bodyguard to the current Crown Princess.
Link was born to an Airbender father and a nonbending mother. However, for reasons I have yet to figure out (if you have any ideas let me know!) they had left the Air Countries and moved to the Southern Water Tribe.
Speaking of which…
Because Link was not in the Air Countries but the Avatar Cycle foretold that the next Avatar would be an Airbender, it was widely assumed before Link proved himself that Revali was the Avatar due to his prodigious Airbending Skill (he was the first airbender to learn to fly without using his paraglider and solely by manipulating air). This is why he has such beef with our best boy.
Zelda can’t access the Spirit Realm because her mother died and was unable to teach her how. This is canon. Literally in BotW.
THE MASTER SWORD OH BOY DO I HAVE GOODIES FOR YOU
Okay okay so it’s a SPIRIT WEAPON. Ok? I made this up.
IT CHANGES FORM DEPENDING ON THE BIOLOGICAL BENDING TYPE OF THE CURRENT AVATAR.
For example. When the Avatar is an Airbender, it is an Airbender Bo Staff (but it allows for the Avatar to hang his- or her, in the case of linkle- own paraglider cloth on it), because Airbenders are pacifistic and mostly fight using solely Airbending, with their staff as an extension of that. But when the Avatar is a Waterbender, it’s a Spear, because of the implications of Waterbending Culture and tradition. But if he’s an Earthbender, it’s a pair of Sai, because Earthbending involves a lot of strong, solid jabs and kicks that work extremely well with small dual-handed weapons. But when he’s a Firebender, it’s a Katana, because of ferocity of Firebending calls for a sword but the self-control needed to master Firebending calls for a weapon of elegance and precision. DO YOU SEE MY VISION.
The Divine Beasts are not, any longer, mechanical wonders. Instead, they are Spirits who dwell inside the ancient temples of each major bending nation. The Champions were chosen because they had unusually strong connections to the Sacred Realm, and were able to communicate and work with these Divine Beasts.
Ganon is an ancient Spirit of Evil, and the Blight Ganons are the evil spirits under his command. During the Calamity, they killed the Champions and invaded the temples, imprisoning both the Champions’ souls and the Divine Beasts themselves. This imbalance caused horrible natural disasters that ebbed during the century that Link was in the Shrine of Resurrection but resurfaced once he awoke. The Water Tribes were plagued by devastating floods that even they couldn’t control, the Earth Kingdom was struck by a terrible heat wave that made the Gorons lethargic and the Koroks’ plants wither, the Air Countries suffered intense tornadoes that made Airbending- the center of their lives- dangerous and therefore unusable, and the Fire Nations were hit by disastrous thunder sandstorms, unnavigable and fatal to be caught in.
The Guardians were under the command of an elite force of Metalbending Hylians, however, they were killed in the Calamity and the evil spirits who were their murderers possessed the vessels.
ANYWAY
I have more stuff but I don’t remember it all, but eventually I will post more about this!!!

Note
actually, tell us everything about your LoZ AU
Sorry I had so much to say apparently so whacking this all under the cut o7
So my first thought was what game do they fit into best. Ocarina of time is an interesting choice, Sheik Bruce is pretty cool and Navi could be a fun take on a lantern ring as she’s a source of information and such, which is the same reason Fi and Skyward Sword also has potential (that and FLYING!! Oh Hal you would love a Loftwing). But I settled on Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom because of course I did.
The Sheikah Slate/Funky arm work soooo well as a lantern ring replacement, and Hal gets to glide around and build planes so boom, perfect Link role for Hal. And BOTW Zelda is a big ‘ol over worked nerd with the weight of the world on her shoulders which is very Bruce.
So they meet when they’re both teens, only around 16 or so when Hal is assigned Prince Bruce’s personal knight, which Bruce hates because he can handle himself thank you very much, but Hal is persistent and carries out his duty. They argue a lot. Bruce feels like Hal is looking down at him for being unable to figure out how to seal Ganon (Who is Ganon is this au? Darkseid I guess) away, which is just him projecting his own insecurities. He also doesn’t understand why a reckless idiot like Hal would be chosen as their hero and wielder of the master sword. Hal, who’s spent years training to fill his late father’s shoes and prove himself as a knight is angry that Bruce won’t see him and his skills for what they are and assumes that Bruce dislikes him because he’s not from a noble background. Things between the two of them are pretty tense.
They’re not in this alone however! Four champions from the rest of Hyrule join them in an attempt to beat Darkseid. Clark (Daruk), Diana (Urbosa), Arthur (Mipha) and Oliver (Rivali) join them and become the pilots of the divine beasts. Up to you if they stay human/Hylian or become one of Zelda’s fantasy races. They try to repair the frosty relationship between Hal and Bruce, trying to get them to put aside their nonsense and see each other properly, but it doesn’t work until Bruce is caught in a surprise attack by Darkseid’s cult followers and Hal saves him. It’s the first time Hal has gotten to show off his skills properly and Bruce has a little “Oh.” moment about it.
After that the two of them are more open with each other. Hal finally tells Bruce that his father was a knight who died trying to protect Bruce’s parents, the former King and Queen of Hyrule, on the night they were murdered. He always wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps despite his mother’s resistance to the idea, but he also always wanted to become a knight because he knew Bruce was like him and he felt an urge to protect him. Bruce tells Hal he’s scared that without his parents guidance he’ll never unlock the powers he’s said to have that would allow him to seal Darkseid away. A friendship blooms between the two of them and the baby idiot pining goes into full swing.
Between experimenting with the guardian tech, training with the champions and visiting the goddess springs, Bruce is exhausted. He’s working himself to the bone in hopes of being ready when Darkseid arrives. And Hal can do is watch over him. Bruce’s 17th birthday arrives and he is finally permitted to go to the spring of wisdom to hopefully awaken his power, but to no avail. Darkseid appears, all the champions fall, you know the drill. They’ve failed, Bruce has failed. Hal gets mortally injured protecting Bruce, and to save him Bruce puts him in the shrine of resurrection, knowing that doing so will mean the loss of his memories and the potential that they will never meet again. He doesn’t care. He just wants to save Hal, he can’t let Hal die too.
Hal wakes up, 100 years later, with no memories of who he is or what he’s doing. He just knows he trusts the voice of the boy asking for his help in his head more than anything. An old man (Alfred), helps guide him and get him back on his feet and accustomed to the powers of the Sheikah Slate before explaining what has happened. Hal sets off to regain his memories and save Bruce. He meets the new champions (it would be fun if they were the Robins?) and sets his friends' souls free from the divine beasts. Said friends grant him their powers and their spirits join him on his journey (This means constant jokes from Ollie, constant worrying from Clark, and Diana and Arthur making so many comments about his fighting form. All his friends are dead but they still find ways to be annoying. It’s a ghostly road trip.).
With their help Hal gets all his memories back and then sets off to defeat Darkseid and save Bruce. They do, and as Bruce and Hal hug it out the spirits of their friends finally move on and the two of them set out to restore the kingdom.
NOW. Tears of the Kingdom! Is the perfect Link for Hal, he can literally make constructs. I don’t wanna get too far into spoiler territory with this game since I know a lot of people are still playing, but I don’t think Zelda’s story in it fits Bruce as well as BOTW’s does. So maybe we can just smush the two together and Hal get’s the Zonai arm early.
I’ll just leave you with thoughts of them rebuilding Hyrule together and living up in Hal’s little house. Oh and Dinah is Kass. And Barry is… Beedle. Because I’d miss him otherwise. That is all.

I was tagged by @wanderingnightingale to reflect on seven creative things I’ve done in 2022, so here they are under the cut because is it really me if im not rambling 😂. thank you for the tag! anyone who sees this and wants to give it a go themselves, have at it!
1. as the sun sets on this world
my botw zelda and wolf link fic! this was an idea that came to me after I wanted to somehow incorporate wolf link's presence in botw into a story, but couldn't find a way to make it seem natural in a larger plot, so I kept it contained to this one-shot where he shows up and helps zelda take the master sword to korok forest after botw link's death.
it's not a super popular fic due to the strangeness of the idea, but I really like the character dynamics in the fic, especially the one between a damaged, unnamed fi who's trying to soothe a freshly-traumatized zelda. something something zelda finally getting a chance to talk to the very thing that "taunted" her her entire life, something something fi coming to terms with the fact that she's once again "failed" a Hero. i also loved writing the spooky nightmares that zelda has.
2. lightning in a bottle (flashing before my eyes)
my urbosa/zelda's mom fic is one that is very close to my heart. urbosa is one of my favorite zelda characters, and I love being able to make up a backstory for her that's worthy of the amazing character that she is (kind of. botw's characters besides zelink are all very flat but it's FINE it's why im WRITING THIS FIC. she's an amazing character in my head).
I just...she's so cool??? she's so confident and badass??? where does that come from how did she become that person??? why can she wield lightning??? I wanted to answer all of those questions that I had about her that wasn't just the most obvious answers of, "she balances out/soothes zelda's anxieties and gives us backstory on those anxieties. her lightning is a really sick game mechanic so she just has it to give it to link after she dies". also why would the game mention her deep connection to zelda's mom if they WEREN'T in love? of COURSE I have to write their love story and what it meant for urbosa to love a woman who was gone too soon, and whose daughter is in desperate need of guidance that only she can provide by emulating her mother and saying what her mother would say. urbosa's confidence is genuine, a product of her life up to the point that we see her, but it's also a way for her to give Zelda her mother for even just a moment.
in going in-depth on urbosa, I also get to go in-depth on zelda's mom, and I love zelda's mom. I've actually stolen her personality and such from a character from one of my original fiction ideas, so it wasn't exactly hard to come up with who she is, but honestly the hardest part of creating zelda's mom was picking her name. I was originally going to call her Rose so her name would be "Zelda Rose Hyrule", as it sounds nice as just "Zelda Rose", but I ended up going with Faye ("Zelda Faye"/"Zelda Faye Hyrule") because as I was implanting the personality of one of my characters onto her, Rose just didn't fit anymore. I felt it was too "gentle" of a name for this woman who is anything but that. no offense to anyone named Rose. I also love weaving in these little similarities between the queen of hyrule and botw zelda, because even though they're two completely different young women they're undeniably similar in a way that only mothers and daughters can be.
this fic only has two chapters out of ten posted. I am Trying. chapter three will happen eventually.
3. the goddess's chosen guardian
my short little impa fic! I love her so much!
this fic is just me going crazy over impa. I was literally in the car driving home from work one day, got stuck in traffic, and then "wrote" this whole thing about impa and sheikah culture and whatnot in my head and then I got home, opened up my laptop, and wrote for four hours until the whole thing was out of my brain. then I posted it on ao3 like two minutes later.
I don't even know, I just wanted to go in-depth about how cool impa is, because the idea of her as a whole, someone who isn't mentioned in any of hyrule's prophecies but is central to protecting the Goddess's bloodline??? you're telling me impa is "just a side character"??? she's the reason for all of the legends of zelda even coming to pass, as she protects the existence of a girl with hylia's blood (and the longevity of hyrule's royal family), which snowballs into the reason why ganon wants to destroy the world and then why link gets called upon to stop him. she's arguably even the reason ganon gets defeated if you go back far enough in the butterfly effect, because if zelda dies what the hell is link supposed to do once he kicks ganon's ass? he has no idea how to seal evil in another realm, the only magic he knows comes from items he finds in dungeons and spinning his sword really fast. zelda is the triforce of wisdom, and without impa most of the time the triforce of wisdom is lost.
she's just so freaking awesome. how could I not write something about how she becomes who she is?
4. with every drop of rain singin'
mitski should be put in prison for writing pink in the night does she even know what she's done to me????
this was my fic for zelink week back in july, and it was supposed to be a one-shot. like...5k MAX. then it became 30k broke out into three chapters. I don't know where my energy for long one-shots like my fi fic went, but I just have to break stuff up now and therefore I am cursed to forever say "oh this is a one-shot" and then have like three additional chapters because I can't stop adding stuff. this is what it means to be a writer.
this fic is weird, because it's so different from my usual writing in that it's strangely profound. I don't even know what happened one second I was writing about zelda having amnesia after sealing the calamity and the next second I had link philosophizing about love and what it meant for him to barely remember someone who couldn't remember themselves. he wanted answers, that's why he became the Hero, but instead he's the one having to give them even though he doesn't know anything for sure. it's a fun reversal! I also got to play with stream of consciousness for the first time in years, which is why there are gigantic paragraphs and run-on sentences as link rambles to himself trying to figure out what's going on and his feelings surrounding this zelda who is nothing like the one he vaguely remembers.
5. a thing that doesn't change with time
this fic is a testament to how deeply I will commit to the bit, because it's not even a bit anymore. this is serious. I've convinced myself that this npc merchant is secretly god and hiding the secrets of the universe in his beetle-shaped backpack. he helped build skyloft. he knew skyward sword impa. he's never tired when you go up to him in skyward sword or botw he's LYING to all of us for his own personal amusement because he's been alive for millions of years and got bored one day. I know him on a deeper level than anyone else in this fandom (this is a joke, unless it's not, look at what I just said), I know this to be true. my uncle works at nintendo.
all jokes aside though, this fic is a MONSTER just like the previous one. almost 30k and I still have the last chapter to write. it's an exercise in world building and character crafting on a level that I haven't operated/written on in six years, and when I finish this fic (and if I think hard enough to take away all of the "zelda"-isms) I can probably turn it into a whole original story and have a solid 30-40k little novel on my hands about a man who unwillingly becomes a god and fights tooth and nail to retain his mortality. I genuinely love this idea and I literally cannot look at beedle without going, "I know what you are".
6. overdue
I've written some other smut on my account, but this is the fic that my practice ones had been building to, and I think I was better for it. it was fun to write, albeit difficult because I could barely keep a straight face when I was reading it back to myself, trying to make it the best that it could be, and honestly my favorite part of it is the comedic ending when botw zelink is finally done boinking in the library's secret room and they get called out by impa.
7. ignorance is bliss
this is the only non-zelda fic on the list, being for the chainsaw man fandom and a lesbian rarepair. even though this year I've also written an attack on titan and a batman fic, this is the one that I like the most out of the three fandoms that I've ventured out into writing for.
to really go in-depth would be to spoil the new anime, as it spoils something major, but I like the dynamic I've made between the two characters the fic is about, how they speak to each other and how they "love" each other, as both of them have no idea what it is to love. there's also another heaping of smut in here, but it's not "sexy" smut, so it was a first try at writing intimacy in a way that wasn't really intimate at all, which I think I was wayyyyyyy better at. apparently I can't write anything properly if it's not angsty dkfjhsdjkghksdg

If you think about it, Pre-Calamity Link (gonna call him AoC Link for clarity) prolly shouldn’t have that many scars compared to BotW Link.
AoC Link’s whole story before the Calamity was that he was so crushed under societal expectations of what a bodyguard to Zelda and Hylian Champion should be, that he simply conformed to them, not preparing for the Calamity at all because of it, and crumbled. He had to be forced to start over from scratch to re-start his life and save Hyrule. Because of this, he was probably most likely just going about his day with Zelda and watching over her like instructed, which meant he didn’t engage in combat or get wounded all that much during the timeframe between the first and last memories. The only visible exceptions are Memory 8, where he protects Zelda from the Yiga very briefly, Memory 9, where he fights off an entire horde of monsters and Lynels, Memory 17, where Link falls in battle and Zelda awakens to her Goddess Powers, and arguably Memory 10, where Mipha heals Link’s wounds.
This is compared to BotW Link, who had to build his life around living in the wild. He’s constantly climbing everything, running head-first into monster camps, throwing himself off of cliffs and just barely catching himself with the paraglider etc. Not to mention, he now has access to the Sheikah Slate, which means a shit ton of bombs and slamming metal and throwing himself around using statis. Also, he’s going against the elements much more - he’s running around next to lava on Death Mountain, both getting struck by and using lightning to his advantage, freezing to death in the Hebra Mountains, and getting a tan and a half after staying in the Gerudo Desert for days on end. He’s getting roughed up a lot more.
Scar estimation under the cut
Mainly so I can keep track of this myself, I’ll sort the scars AoC Link would have into most likely, and potentially, for injuries that aren’t entirely canon but due to the nature of the fight could likely scar, and injuries that are up to interpretation whether they would scar or not. Obviously, there aren’t any injuries explicitly seen in the memories nor any combat, so it would be quite hard to judge definites so here’s a round-about estimation.
Most Likely:
- The first true battle we see AoC Link has engaged in; Memory #8 - A Premonition. In the wreckage, an entire horde of monster corpses are seen, including at least 3 White-Maned Lynels. We also see Zelda tending to his wounds as she scolds him, though comments that they aren’t bad. Other than attacks from the Bokoblins, Moblins, and Lizalfos, since White-Maned Lynels are among the hardest enemies in the game and he fought more than one in the middle of a horde, he must have at least a few scars just from them.
Since White-Maned Lynels breathe fire and use elemental arrows, it’s likely he has scars from fire, ice, and electricity. Not only that but also wounds from their Savage Lynel Swords (it seems that they weren’t wielding crushers or spears in the memory). From the other three monster types, I’d say it’s mostly arrow wounds, possibly elemental, bruises or dents from rocks, and slashes. I’d say he got a large majority of his scars from this battle.
- Memory #17 - Zelda’s Awakening. The big moment before Link’s death in all but name. For context, it seems that Link has been battling with Guardians for so long, he physically cannot keep up. It’s explained that he dies from exhaustion from overworking himself to protect Zelda, but personally I also think it was a mixture of that and any injuries he would have gained from the battle. For him to die from exhaustion, it’s likely that he wouldn’t have had time to properly treat his injuries and potentially bled out (I know no blood is shown but keep in mind Nintendo loves to keep their kid-friendly rating).
So he’s fighting Guardians, right? And we see he’s all scuffed up, both from the elements and the fight. In the memory, it’s also clearly seen that they’re surrounded by fire as they fight the Guardians, suggesting that Link failed to deflect their beams and it either hit their surroundings or hit him. Since Guardian beams seem to not be entirely deadly, meaning they most likely don’t do harm to anything vital - like being strong enough to tear through organs and bone, it most likely means he would get gashes, second to third degree burns, and likely an infection from dragging these untreated injuries through mud and dirt for potentially hours on end.
Potentially:
- When Link is seen having one-on-one time with Mipha; Memory #10 - Mipha’s Touch. I put this in potentially since I’ve seen a lot of different interpretations of Mipha’s Grace since it’s never really explained how it works in detail. My own interpretation is that the ability only speeds along the healing process of injuries, meaning that scars will still be left behind.
Obviously in the memory, we see Mipha healing claw marks (at the moment I can’t remember if it was stated it was from the Lynel on Ploymous Mountain or not), so he’s gonna have the claw marks on his forearm from that. We also get a bit of backstory from Mipha herself. Link is described as ‘a reckless child who would always get hurt’ and that Mipha would always heal his wounds, which implies that he probably has a bunch of childhood scars. It’s supposed to be a one-off line to describe Link as a person Pre-Calamity so it doesn’t actually describe what kind of things would happen, like for example if he was described as ‘clumsy’ it would have given more insight into what kind of injuries he may have gotten.
- Even lower of the potentially list, but is put in just as a notice; Memory #4 - Daruk’s Mettle. Generally this memory doesn’t really see Link visibly injured but is mentioned for anyone who wants to use this themselves. When the boulder falls, Daruk is the only one actually protected from it through his shield, and said boulder smashes into pieces. You can actually see it fly over Link’s head. So I propose he potentially got injured from the debris - mostly just bruises, nicks and lacerations from smaller chunks of rocks. Nothing too big, but I thought I’d mention it.

Gosh, okay, so it's been a couple days since I finished age of calamity and I've had the chance to peruse a fic or two, which is time enough for my initial questions to start getting answered.
So. What actually happened.
Like what happened behind the scenes? What in universe reasoning is there for such drastic changes in circumstances? We've got new characters, new stories, new designs.
The first thing I can say with certainty is that the time line did not, in fact, branch from when Eggy arrived in the past. Somehow, the little creacher managed to land itself in a timeline that had already been long separated.
Why?
Well the first) main thing is obvious - link doesn't have the master sword. How odd. Given how young he found it, and all the chances he would have had since, why not? What was stopping him?
Would it not be in his enemies favour that he hasn't had the chance to train and prepare for the role since he was a child? Who would even know to ensure it didn't happen?
Gee, if only there was a seer 100y ago in hyrule. A prophet of calamity, say.
Imagine if Ganon got his hands on him?
A seer driven half mad, someone with access to rare sheikah tech and the ability to use it.
It was Astor.
And Ganon played him like a fiddle. With the hindsight of the game, it makes a lot of strange things clear. Like what he was Seeing.
Interestingly enough, the divine beasts have all been found. The same champions have been selected, no matter how sabotaged each were. Astors close allies, we learn later. The monsters for daruk, the one lynel finding the missing Prince when dorephan already worried for his children's safety, kogah impersonating urbosa, the harbinger getting terrako mistaken for it.
Instead of a handful of yiga getting intimidated by a fully realised hero when they attack the princess (in a memory), sooga leads a full army to the heart of the kingdom.
He's there in person to try and take control of korok forest, and is shocked by a new master sword power we've never seen before destroying the shadows.
He attacks akkala earlier than in botw. He gathers monsters and uses them in his schemes rather than flooding hyrule with them all at once with Ganon. He tries akkala again, knowing how important its fall is to his plans. He manages to upgrade the blights from what they were in botw. He manages to infuse monsters and guardians with elements. He can recall and deactivate them at a moments notice. It's Fort hateno, an otherwise unremarkable battlefield, that he goes all out, with dozens of guardians, hundreds of monsters, all the blights at once he throws at link without even a moment of thought to Zelda. He was convinced Link would fall.
Astor saw the Breath of the Wild timeline.
He saw things in links memories, he saw us, the player, defeat Ganon. He saw Link die, saw Zelda hold Ganon at bay, saw link's return and the defeat of Ganon. Unlike botw, the Great plateau has already been blocked off (else Rhoam would have rejoined the fight) - no one knows about the shrine of resurrection. Link would have died there, and no matter what Zelda did, that would have meant ganons success.
Because Zelda had strength enough to battle Ganon for a century, but it was Link, not her, who managed to deal the final blow.
Even with the plateau blocked off, there were soldiers investigating the shrine. They were swarmed with monsters, and it was only purahs upgraded teleportation - courtesy of investigating terrako - that saved the day.
Say what you will about Astor, but that man was extremely clever and and cunning, and used his ability to work with sheikah tech and his visions to their FULLEST extent. He was manipulating events to his own advantage, he was ten steps ahead of hyrule at all times, he had backup plans on top of backup plans and he was ruthless enough to use them (killing the yiga for power when they failed). His fanaticism made him come off as significantly less of a threat than he was.
And he was one.
So how did the heroes survive?
Terrako.
That little egg was just enough of a butterfly effect (remember the butterflies everywhere when it first appeared? Not subtle) to give them the chance we needed.
The ability to give all the champions and allies the powers of the slate was just the beginning. That meant they were better able to fight, better able to defend themselves from heavy damage attacks. They could communicate across the battlefield with ease.
The egg could control deactivated guardians. Zelda used it to attack enemy guardians, blow up blockades. Most notably in the first akkala battle.
The egg contained information on the future. This enabled the sheikah to make their own plans in counter to Astor. I believe this is why they went to Fort hateno, with the same foreknowledge Astor had that it was IMPORTANT.
The egg had some hand in calling the future champions, saving every original champion from certain death and crucially enabling reinforcements to reach them in time.
Most importantly, the egg contained invaluable technology, which purah and Robbie uses repeatedly throughout the game to improve their other tech to unprecedented levels, single handedly saving akkala citadel the final time AND saving the plateau (with the shrine of resurrection) and the King himself, not to mention upgrading the fighters abilities even further. Simply put, without Eggy, Astor would have won, devastatingly and even more completely than in Breath of the Wild, the timeline they both seek to change.
But the final thing we learn about Eggy is who created him.
And that was Zelda, against her father's wishes.
In age of calamity, Astor, vessel of ganons hatred, tried to destroy the kingdom.
And it was Zelda's love of her mother and her hobby of tinkering with technology that saved them all.
Take that, rhoam.

Pfft zelda au based on fluffy paradise
Link is a 3 year old who lost his parents but he’s not alone as the day he lost them a malice freed wizzrobe finds him, the monster feeling sorry for the boy adopts him and raises him in a hidden home in hateno.
Link is taught the monster language by his wizzrobe’s parent and learns monsters are misunderstood and discriminated by hyrule’s other races claiming they are superior to the monsters
The wizzrobe tells link it found out his name from the rubble of his old house: link and says link might be the way to link hyrule’s races and the monster races peacefully and save hyrule from the demon king
When link becomes 16 the king of hyrule has his daughter look for the knight that can seal the darkness using the sword and tracks link down to his home and her guards almost kill link’s ‘mother’ if link didn’t show up to save her. Zelda realizing link is the hero tries to explain the misunderstanding they didn’t know the wizzrobe was his adopted parent.
And because of this attack on his monster parent who didn’t even try to fight back as it was against its pacifist nature after raising link, he is hesitant on joining Zelda
Zelda notices link and his wizzrobe’s parent are talking to eachother and she realizes link can understand monster and asks if both can come with it as her mother always believed monsters were sentient and not mindless as everyone else in hyrule think
After that link and his wizzrobe parent move to the castle and the events of the game go down but thanks to link allies with monsters to fight against the calamity not many life’s were lost but during the attacks link’s wizzrobe’s mother is killed saving impa, but link is still injured and put in the shrine, and Zelda steals calamity to save everyone till link can
100 years later link wakes up to botw time frame and thanks to his monster language can talk to monsters and they join him in his quest, as he frees the champions he meets and reforms the monster villages trusts as like the sheikah they were blamed for hyrule’s fall so it’s like a mini main quest link is on after freeing the divine beasts so hyrule’s villages have protection when he and his allies storm the castle
Also link in this au hates killing monsters unless they are malice controlled and he wears a cape made from his late wizzrobe ‘mother’ robe that she asked impa to make what was left of her robe when she died: turn my robe to a cape….that way when my link wakes up he won’t feel alone…and always with him that is my final wish..
And impa honoured it’s last wishes before it died in her arms
Also the new champions join link on his adventures with his monster allies and they get along by the time of Totk all of hyrule is able to speak monster and monsters can speak hylian, and peace is restored… until the upheaval when the gloom plague as the people of hyrule called it started to make all races normal and monster I’ll and a monster called phantom ganon rose hyrule castle into the sky
Link wakes up on the sky island and meets a boy there name gan who reveals to be the missing piece phantom ganon wants so he can be strong again as ganondorf aka gan is the light and has a secret stone and the key of defeating the calamity’s shard phantom ganon and the events of totk go on but add in helping monster villages
and when Zelda got sent back in time she told Sonia about the monsters aren’t mindless and suggest they try and form relationships now, after that ganondorf due to the strength hyrule befriends Zelda and receives a secret stone as a way to forming relations as a friend but due to demise’s curse malice of the calamity takes over him but before he is consumed by the malice he gives Zelda his stone which will help link defeat the calamity shard phantom ganon as his stone ability is: all the good he had inside him will be born from his secret stone to help the one who holds the sword link
Zelda becomes the light dragon and all that happens. New monster races are introduced to hyrule and the zonai are still around just in status chamber or cryogenic sleep
And by the time the totk game play is done Zelda, link, gan and all their allies can live in peace…until they found about the kingdom of termina and the world past hyrule are worried about their country’s strength and power so their will be political issues but they haven’t had issues that cause war yet
And I hop I didn’t bore you on this au idea I thought about ^^,
No you didn't bore me, don't worry about it! This sounds absolutely adorable and I love all the thought put into it :3
Honestly if you have an AU idea, just write it! It's great and fun and no one can stop you. Rage Against the Calamity was originally just a one-shot AU idea I had where Link manages to help out a single Bokoblin that I decided to flesh out more and more until it turned into what it is today lol

Soo! Expanding on Sheik’s relationship with the Goddess Hylia and her Chosen Knight! As well as some other things…
So, when Sheik went to the past, he got really close to them. They became friends, not unlike Link, Zelda, and Groose in SS. Hylia encouraged and comforted him a lot during the process of becoming the Goddess Sword, so he was super attached to her, and the Hero was also very close to Sheik.
Hylia probably would’ve been a motherly figure for Sheik, who had lost his mother at a young age, due to the extermination of the Sheikah. She guided him and consoled him, not unlike her behavior toward the Hero of the Wild. I don’t think Sheik ever told her how he felt, though. Just another regret to add to the list.
The Hero was likely either a fatherly figure, or perhaps a brother? A respected peer(ish). The two had an easy comradery. The Hero was family.
They were a family, a mismatched, taken and put back together family, but they made it work. Well, until Demise, that is.
I’ve already been of the mind that Sheik had a sibling, ever since I came up with the idea. And it’s always been a younger sibling, and is leaning desperately in the little sister direction. Younger sisters for protagonists are just a thing in Zelda, aren’t they?
But I have no idea what her name would be, or what their parents’ names would be. What did their parents do to bring in money? What was Sheik’s early childhood like? All of this is stuff I’d like to explore. So if you’re interested in helping me develop this AU, don’t be afraid to reach out!
Also, I feel the need to touch on something I said earlier in this post. About the ‘process’ of becoming the Master Sword. If his spirit had been all that had been used, it wouldn’t be as reliable, his soul wouldn’t be innately tied to the metal of the blade. But if the blade were, in some way or shape, his physical body? That would be a strong connection. While you could use the transfiguration method on this, I prefer angst to use to develop Sheik and Hylia. So uh- our boy has too much experience with a hammer. Or whatever. Don’t know how it was actually done, but he was physically turned into the Master Sword. I’d say that the Sages were the ones to keep him from dying, if that makes any sense. You can’t have a sword if the boy dies before it’s complete. But they may also have simply cast blessings during the process. Either way, they were still involved in the sword’s creation in this universe.
And no, no names like ‘Legend of Sheik’ or anything like that, that’s not only a no brainer, but also just… boring. It needs something clever and unique. I feel I will be running in circles looking for a name for quite a while. Alas, such is the burden of an author who’s no good at naming things. I’m like, a step or two above Asgore from UnderTale. Like, not completely hopeless, as I do get good ideas from time to time, but still really bad.
Everlasting Spirit? Trials of the Eye? Son of the Goddess/Hylia? Survivor in/of the Sword? Fire of the Servant? The Flames Of Shadow? The Flames Of Darkness? The Flames Of Sheik? This is slowly getting stranger and stranger. I’m thinking of something closely connected to Sheik himself and the Sword, but honestly, something more sword and less sheik is okay. I want something that sounds and feels right, like Linked Universe, Linked Maze, or other popular AUs. This needs an actual working name, not something cobbled together or temporary like ‘Sheik Sword’ or ‘Sheik Of The Sword’ or whatever. This is going to take so long to find a name for… please, if you have an idea, put it in the comments. Or replies? Using the term comments makes more sense for what this post is, but replies suits the fact that this is a Tumblr post. IDK.
