It’s funny that JKR considers herself some kind of champion of women just because she shits on trans people when even her books are actually riddled with misogyny and favoritism towards the male characters. Name 1 prominent relationship between two women in Harry Potter that’s positive, not filled with petty animosity, and gets a decent amount of page time.
You can’t

The Killing Eve writers (at least the head ones) have always looked at the idea of Eve and Villanelle being in a “domestic” relationship through very heteronormative lenses I think. Like…Eve and Villanelle could have very easily ended the series as a happy couple and still be a little dysfunctional and commit crimes together. Their idea of being domestic didn’t have to align with what was “normal” and I don’t think anyone ever really wanted or expected that.
But the writers are too black and white and simple minded to think like that I guess.

Will never get over the big brained storytelling of Fear Street. The cop who played the hero the entire trilogy and his rich ancestors turned out to be the villains the whole time. And the “witch” who was scapegoated as being the cause of the curse was completely innocent and was persecuted and punished simply for being gay and loving another woman. Like, I’ll be screaming about that years from now.

I do think it’s funny how Eve and Villanelle have both caused extreme bodily harm to the other (the stabbing and shooting) and yet Villanelle frets over Eve having a minor injury on her hand and Eve loses her shit when Helene has Villanelle shot with an arrow.
It’s very “no one is allowed to do that except me” of them.

My #1 post of 2022
I don’t know where the KE writers ever got the idea that Eve is someone that is “meant” for a normal life and just got dragged into the chaos by Villanelle. It actually goes against the core of her character lmao. (And it is a pattern with them bc Emerald Fennel said similar shit about Eve in her post S2 interviews). In the beginning, Eve was literally introduced as someone that was bored with her normal life, which is why she started chasing Villanelle in the first place.
Eve is a woman who has canonically:
- Broke laws and got someone killed in her determination to track Villanelle
- Repeatedly gaslit her husband and put his life at risk in her obsession
- Stabbed Villanelle while they were lying in bed together
- Seriously contemplated pushing a man in front of a bus for being rude to her
- Left a man for dead in order to save Villanelle
- Gleefully helped finish off killing Dasha (and then later agreed with Villanelle that it was romantic that they both killed her lol)
- Unapologetically shot Konstantin
- Admitted that she wanted Villanelle to fuel to her “monster”
- Kidnapped a child
- Got visibly horny watching Villanelle kill Helene
- Gorged out Gunn’s eyeballs
And you’re trying to say this woman would function well in normal society? Lmao.
Anyway, I remember when Sandra Oh said that the finale could be described as “killing Eve” even though Eve didn’t technically die. I take this to mean that she thinks killing Villanelle IS killing Eve in a sense and that scream after she resurfaces the water is one of complete despair at losing the one person who truly understood and accepted her. Eve’s ending was just as tragic as Villanelle’s.
I take her word on Eve’s character over Laura Neal’s, whose only been with these character for 1 full season.

I’ve watched a lot of series finales in my life and some of them have been ~questionable to say the least. But with KE it’s literally the first time everyone agrees that ending sucked big time. No fans, no critics, not a single soul is defending that horrible shit show of a finale. If I was Laura Neal I’d be so ashamed.
She should be. She absolutely should be. All season long I kept saying that she was style over substance, so I just knew that the finale likely wasn't going to be that great, but I couldn't in my wildest imagination have dreamed she would do this. Due to spoilers from when the show was filming the finale, we already knew that Villanelle seemingly got hurt because there was blood on her shirt (turns out that blood was from the Twelve fight, but the part about her getting hurt was correct) so I spent most of the finale just waiting for that scene. And waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Then we hit the 3 minute mark and they're finally on the boat deck and I'm thinking to myself, "well maybe the spoilers were wrong or misleading because there is no way they are going to do this with 3 minutes left." But then they did. They pulled off the most grotesque and vile sequence that I've certainly ever witnessed and it was so incredibly traumatizing that I can remember feeling physically ill when it stopped. Every second was like another blow to the system and the disbelief of what was unfolding was truly horrific. I can't even blame this on style over substance, because this scene and that decision lacked both. She made it overly violent, meaningless, and downright gut wrenching. The fact that critics are panning it for the same reasons means that they can't just blame their queer fanbase for having "unrealistic" expectations. They truly fucked up and the fact that they only seem to have double downed is just tragedy on top of tragedy. That they can't put their egos aside long enough to listen to us and understand just shows the kind of people that they are

KILLING EVE SEASON 3 EPISODE 8 REVIEW
alright so we have a lot of bases to cover in this episode.
but i want to say first that if you have been sticking around to read all of these reviews, i thank you so much. this has been something i’ve been wanting to do for a long time, as you often miss a lot of things watching thru for the first time. so i wanted to take notes and really look at things critically to put together theories and plot points.
all in all, i wrote 31 pages of notes for this series that consisted of hundreds of screencaps. and while this might be the end of this season, i will be picking this back up for season 4 as we wrap the series up for good.
Tumblr media
so we get a one on one with villanelle and carolyn since season 1, where villanelle is offering to take her position up at MI6, and by the tensity in the air, i get the feeling that carolyn has a long list of people who she wants the dirty laundry taken out on. but villanelle tells her that she is no longer interested in killing. and i think villanelle hoped for a different response because carolyn turns down what she has to offer and states that if villanelle isn’t going to kill that she has no use for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this ballroom scene is just *chefs kiss* perfection. honestly, this scene is better than sex imo.
there’s a quote in pretty little liars where alison is talking to emily about practicing dancing for prom and she says “nobody ever tells you that the practice is better than the real thing” and i think that is a perfect quote for this moment between them.
eve knows that something has happened to villanelle, that the mood has shifted, that she’s sad and she doesn’t want to see that so she offers to dance with her to make her feel better. they fall into comfort with each other and even talk about growing old together. absolute babies!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also shoutout to that person who mentioned the face switch from Oksana to Villanelle in this part. i would post the gif here if i could because wowee!!
Tumblr media
she’s still got it!
(even if she apologized to Rhian before she beat the shit out of her)
Tumblr media
this is it. the best scene in the entire series. “Dear Geraldine, I think it’s time you left”
speaking to everyone in the killing eve fandom in 8 short words.
*not pictured* but we see Eve retrieve a package from some betting site, and her have a run in with Konstantin, who is trying to take the money and run. he does not plan on taking villanelle with him. despite what everyone thinks.
Carolyn also finds out that Konstantin was involved in Kenny’s death and i do not believe that Kenny just fell. it’s too easy. something else happened to him and i think that Carolyn chose not to shoot him because she wants to find out about it. but she does have a nice quote “it’s worse than MI6 in here”
then right after she leaves, Villanelle comes in and scares the shit out of all of the bitter pill people
“the good ones i pickle, the bad ones, you don’t want to know.”
Tumblr media
this scene is another top 10 of the series. acting like children, Carolyn is so over it.
but i think this part here lets us know that Carolyn is going to end up being a good guy and not part of the 12 (at least i think so) unlike how the show has set it up to be so far. and if she isn’t part of it, she probably used to be.
and when Carolyn has him on his knees begging for his life, he is screaming out for Villanelle to help him. but the look on her face suggests that she wants Carolyn to kill him. she realizes in that moment that he only wants her for what she can give him.
“you’re not family!” but Eve is.
but Carolyn says something weird here about her being the cause of Kenny’s death, idk if this is just some weird reverse psychology thing or what? idk.
she mentions going cold turkey, going into hiding and letting it go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“when i think of my future, i just see your face over and over again”
eve tells villanelle that she is so many things, and goes on to talk about how we all have monsters inside us and that their monsters compliment each other.
but she asks villanelle to help make it stop, and she has them turn their backs to each other and walk away, you can see a tear slip down eve’s face. she doesn’t want to walk away. then there’s the song, and they turn around!!
they turn around!!
eve chooses to let her monster run rampant rather than let villanelle go. she chooses her. they choose each other. because they are all either has left and they are now each others family.
overall, this season was very hit and miss and i agree with everyone when they said that the two of them needed to spend majority of the season apart to grow so they could come together in the end. so while we didn’t get a lot of villaneve content this season, this season made what parts they did have very special.
episode rating 10/10
overall season rating 8/10
this series is very special to me and so are all of these characters, so here is to season 4 being the best one yet go wrap their amazing stories together in a way that does them each justice

-
All day, you had been in a teasing mood because Villanelle hadn’t been paying attention to you. You were also horny since it had been a while since you both had done anything with your schedules being so busy. She had been caught up in work all day and your tricks just weren’t cutting it. So when she said that you both should go to the club tonight, you agreed, knowing that doing something there would give you 100% of her attention then.
Walking into the club, you immediately gravitated to the dancefloor. The loud music pounded in your ears but you didn’t mind it as much. It helped you to let loose from everything that was going on all together. Villanelle suggested to grab you both drinks and you nodded, watching her push through the crowd to the bar. You felt a pair of hands grab onto your hips from behind which startled you at first since it was a random guy but you smirked at the ‘bright’ idea you got.
You began to dance with the guy, who was getting a little handsy that you kept moving his hands back up to your waist every time they went to grip your ass. Sure, you wanted to get a reaction from Villanelle but you still wanted to have some sort of control.
Villanele walked over to the bar, ordering you both drinks, turning quickly to make sure she still had an eye on you before she got lost trying to find you again. Doing a double take, she saw a random guy come up to you, a part of her wanted you to push him off but another part of her watched to see how you would react. She had taken in every attempt and hint you dropped to her all day but she didn’t want to react and give in. Her own personal teasing, you could call it.
When she saw you grind into a guy and his hands move their way to your hips, gripping onto you, that was when she lost it. She stormed over to the both of you, tapping him on the shoulder. The guy turned around before knocking over onto the ground as Villanelle had punched him right in the jaw.
You stood up, eyes wide at her reaction to seeing you both dancing as you watched her straddle the guy, punching him over and over before pulling him up by the collar of his shirt.
“Hands off my girl” she said, punching once more on his nose which caused him to bleed. Her hands were slightly covered in his blood mixed with blood from her knuckles from how hard she had punched. You rushed over, pulling her off of the guy and onto her feet.
“Stop. You’re going to kill him if you keep going” you said as she looked over at you. Her eyes were dark from a mix of adrenaline and wanting. A wanting to teach you and tell you how you were hers and only hers.
Villanelle grabbed your wrist, pulling you roughly towards the bathroom as you felt a pit in your stomach from both excitement but also from nervousness. You both had been in this predicament before, going to the nearest room to have a quickie but it never has happened after Villanelle beating up a guy, nearly killing him.
Closing the door behind you both, she tugged you to the nearest stall, eagerly pushing you in and shutting the door. Being in a tight space together, you could feel Villanelle’s breath fan onto your face as your breath hitched a bit when she grabbed your hips, pulling you close into her.
“You see what you make me do? Hmm? Almost making me kill someone just because they had their hands all over you, caressing you the way only I should be doing” she said, looking from your eyes to your lips as you let out a small whimper feeling her hands grip your hips tighter.
Swiftly, she spun you around so your face and chest were against the the stall wall as she hiked up your dress above your ass as she inhaled a sharp breath seeing you were wearing her favorite black lace set.
“Were you wearing this for him to see, Printsessa? For him to rip off of you before he fucked you?” she said into your ear, leaning into you before smacking your ass hard pulling a yelp from you.
She chuckled, pulling back and caressing your ass before smacking again. “Uh uh, baby. You want to act like a whore all night so this is your punishment” she said, smacking once more, harder making you jolt slightly forward.
Villanelle turned you back around to face her, smirking at you before she crashed her lips against yours, pulling your leg up to wrap around her hips, steadying you on your other foot. You moved your hands to lay on her shoulders until she pulled back abruptly. You looked at her, confused as she took her belt off and looked at you.
“No touching me, baby. Another part of the punishment since you were so touchy tonight, alright?” she said, looking at you as you nodded.
“Yes” you spoke as you raised an eyebrow at you.
“Yes what?” she smirked, waiting for you to answer as you moaned slightly.
“Yes, daddy” you said as she slowly rubbed her thumb against you cheek.
“That’s my girl” she said, placing your leg back down before taking both of your hands softly and tightening the belt around them, moving them above your head for you to grab a hold of the top of the stall which, thankfully, you could reach with your heels.
“Now, why don’t you tell me what you’re true plans were for tonight, angel” She said, standing back up, moving her hand down to your panties, slowly rubbing you above the fabric, smirking at how soaked they are already.
“So wet. I bet your boy toy wouldn’t appreciate this as much, don’t you think?” she said, pushing aside the fabric and slightly pressing against your clit before beginning to rub quickly making your breath hitch.
“Tell what your plans were baby” she said, continuing to rub at a quick pace as you tried to catch your breath, letting out a loud moan, gripping tightly onto the stall. You felt her other hand pick up your leg again, giving her better access to keep rubbing.
“I just-” you breathed in as she slowed her pace a bit “I wanted to piss you off, show you that maybe someone else can pleasure me” you smirked, wanting to get a reaction out of her. She stopped rubbing your clit which made you whimper at the loss of the feeling.
Giving you a sharp look, she inserted two fingers quickly, beginning to pump in and out at a slow pace, you moved your hands down from the stall to move her hand quicker but she quickly moved them back up to hold onto the stall.
“Is that so? You really think someone can fuck you just as good as me? Get you to scream so loud just like I get you to?” she said, pulling her fingers out, looking at them covered in your slick wetness before moving them to your face, motioning for you to suck on her fingers.
Opening your mouth, she moved her fingers in as you began to suck. She let out a moan, slowly unbuckling her pants and pulling out the strap that she had put on before leaving the house that night. Taking her hand from your mouth, she used it to help align herself before slamming into you quickly, pulling you close by the back of the neck.
You moaned loudly, thanking the music from the club for being so loud that no one could hear you as your eyes rolled back, feeling Villanelle pull back out slowly before slamming in again fast.
“I’ll fuck you so good, you won’t think of anyone else” She said, picking up the pace as you leaned your head back against the stall, your moans beginning to get louder and louder. You lifted your hips a bit, feeling a new sense of pleasure from the new angle, your eyes rolled back.
“That’s it, Kiska. Moan as loud as you want, let them hear you” She said, sweat beginning to bead up on her forehead as she began grunting, moving her hand to rub your clit while continuing to thurst at a fast pace.
“I’m gonna-” you started but was cut off by letting out a short scream, gripping tightly onto the stall as you started to feel your orgasm being brought to it’s peak.
“Fuck.” Villanelle moaned out. Watching you in this state was almost euphroic to her. She knew how to pleasure you and it gave her pleasure watching you unravel underneath her, being able to share an intimate connection.
“Go ahead, baby. Cum for me. Let me see you” she said, moving your head to look at her as you inhaled a long sharp breath, feeling yourself release, letting out a long moan. Villanelle moaned along, thrusting slowly, letting your ride out your orgasm before your body went slightly limp. Villanelle pulled out, putting the strap back into ther pants as you looked at her confused.
“You don’t want me to help clean you up?” You asked as she smirked and shook her head.
“We can do that at home. This is just round one” She winked, placing your leg back down, helping you with your panties and dress to make sure you were presentable even after getting fucked in a restroom. Villanelle took the belt from your wrists, placing it back onto her pants as she looked at you before placing a kiss onto your forehead.
“I love you” she said, looking at you as you smiled, taking her hands into yours and giving her a small kiss on the lips.
“And I love you. Don’t worry, no one can fuck as good as you” you winked back as she let out a laugh.
“Damn right” she said, smacking your ass lightly, making you jump as you both exited the stall, preparing yourself for what is going to happen at home.

Thought soup for 3x07 and why this episode did NOT disappoint
1- For me, the best thing about this episode was clearly that we got more Eve AND dark Eve. The look in her eyes when she was crushing Dasha said it all. She was excited to kill again, excited to follow in Villanelle's footsteps and work on the same kill as her.
2- The villaneve meetup. It wasn't what we expected but it was still pretty great. As we say in French, they were separated only to find eachother better next episode. If they had met "for real" on the platform, I'm afraid it would've been a brief encounter as Villanelle had important stuff to do, she had a place to go and a train to catch, Eve surprised her. When they meet next episode it'll be voluntary (probably on both parts), they'll be focused on eachother. The way they reacted to seeing eachother again really proves they've grown. I was also happy to find that obsession again. It felt different, good different, like it was an old dance they knew every step to, both in the chase and in the meeting.
3- This was a turning point for Konstantin. His plan is going to shit, which means his two daughters-Irina and Villanelle- will have to fend for themselves. For Villanelle, that means going back to Eve.
4- This was also a breakthrough for Carolyn. She's finally letting her anger out, and realizing not only all she's loosing, but also that if she doesn't back off she might be next on the Twelve's hit list.
5- Now a little color and outfit analysis. Villanelle wore a lot of green this episode. Green symbolises growth, hope and jealousy. For me, when Villanelle wears green, it also represents vulnerability.
Let's take a look at 2 of the other times Villanelle wore green.
Tumblr media
The green skirt. She wore this when she was the most vulnerable: meeting her family. She had hoped to reconnect with them, to see where she belonged and where she came from. This was a sign of growth in Villanelle's character. She was opening herself up, giving into her fears and desires. She might have been a little jealous of the life she never had. Notice she was wearing a top in hotter colors that reminded of the tones her family wore, she was trying to fit in.
Tumblr media
The green gown. She wore this at yet another time where she was vulnerable. Actually, it was the fit time she let herself cry (that we know of). That was growth. She had hoped for Eve to come, but she didn't, and she got jealous of the attention she didn't get from her.
Now in this episode, she was reminded of her mom, and we also saw (maybe) some jealousy when she realized even Dasha had family. Her growth came in three shapes: first, her relationship with Eve (and also Konstantin), her personal growth, and her wanting to grow out of the Twelve. However, what I found most interesting about her outfits this episode was their shape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were bulky, and her golf one even looked like grass, or a bush camouflage outfit. They hid her. They hid her shape and her scars, they hid her desires, what she's really trying to do.
Now for Eve's outfit. This was reminded me a lot of one of her outfits from season 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Odly enough, in both episodes she chases Villanelle in other cities, she asks Konstantin for information, and Konstantin ends up nearly dying. One of Villanelle's "mother figures" (Dasha in this episode, Anna in season 1) also gets hurt. I found the parallel interesting.
Irina's outfits. First time we see her this time, after she's killed for the first time and is in "prison" (detention center), she's wearing a blue turtleneck that resembles a lot the one Villanelle was wearing when she saw her family for the first time time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, she's wearing an all red shirt. The last time she saw Villanelle and told her about her father's plans, Villanelle was also wearing an all red shirt (fancier and with buttons but).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was talking about this with @strangled-by-jodie-comer and we found it very interesting. It's as if they were trading places. Irina is becoming the killer, and Villanelle wants to escape with her almost-father Konstantin, like Irina wanted to do in the beginning of the season.
Finally, there was some more red (that turns to black) in Geraldine's and Carolyn's outfits, but I'll let @strangled-by-jodie-comer develop on that if she wants to as it was her who brought it up to my attention.
6- In conclusion, a lot happened, some plot holes are slowly getting filled (like what Carolyn said to V in the prison, I was happy they addressed that), and there's clearly a lot of detail being put into this episode.
Feel free to add to my soup, I might later but for now after my first watch this is what stood out to me.

Killing Eve: Episode Analysis
*SPOILERS*
Season 3, Episode 2 - Management Sucks
Tumblr media
The episode begins with Eve, who is attending Kenny’s funeral. While she’s standing outside trying to have a smoke, she sees a bus with an advert on it saying “worry, grief, regret, let it all go...”, which is exactly what Eve needs to, and is trying to do - yet there is something, or more accurately someone, who she just can’t manage to let go of.
While Eve is standing outside, the song ‘Boy And Girl’ by Unloved plays through the scene. The lyrics that can be heard are:
If I was old,
When I was young,
What I’d known,
I’d do,
But I'm old,
And not so young,
But still I cry,
For you,
But what’s left to say,
Except that time heals all,
So I will wait,
And wait”
The lyrics of the song exhibit how Eve is reflecting on her life and her experiences, as well as how Kenny has died when he still “was young”. She is also thinking about the tragedies she has endured and how she hopes that “time heals all” she has endured, but it hasn’t happened yet so she “will wait and wait”.
Tumblr media
This episode is also one of two episodes in Season 3, where the title credits are different. We get the cast’s names in black drops on a red background; the second instance where this is used is in S3E7, and the background is Green for that one. The red and green backgrounds are a nod to the outfits that Eve (green) and Villanelle (red) wore in the Season 2 finale, in Rome. The red for Villanelle is used in this episode, because it focuses on her character development the most.
In this episode, Villanelle starts trying to climb up the ladder of The Twelve through a managerial assignment, and it is this episode that is the beginning of the end for Villanelle. It is in this episode where she starts on a path that leads to her realisation of her own lack of freedom, and her discontentment in working for The Twelve - as she later realises that she has been manipulated by Dasha and Hélène (when she’s made a keeper and it doesn’t turn out to be what she was promised).
Tumblr media
When Carolyn tries to return to work, before entering a meeting, Mo says “your blouse is, erm...”. This seems like an insignificant, passing comment, but Carolyn is a woman who is always immaculately dressed. Carolyn’s state of dress usually reflects the internal organisation and focus that she has in her work and personal life. So Carolyn’s blouse being untidy shows us how, although she is trying to do her job and be at work physically, she is not as mentally focused as she usually is.
Tumblr media
Later on Carolyn goes to visit Eve at the Korean restaurant she works at, and when Eve comes to meet with her, she starts to drink a can of coke; which is a reference back to S1E2, when Carolyn is showing Eve the Trafalgar office and tells her “I once saw a rat drink from a can of coke there”. In the scene in S1E2, Carolyn is recruiting Eve to work for her, to try and track down Villanelle. Similarly in this scene, Carolyn is once again trying to get Eve to start working for her again; except unlike in Season 1, Eve has lost all the enthusiasm she once had for searching for Villanelle, and this time she turns Carolyn down.
Tumblr media
After Carolyn has told Eve “she’s back, Eve, and she’s working”, a song (presumably another unreleased Unloved song) almost perfect for the scene plays. The lyrics of the song that can be heard are:
“Two minds,
What’s this,
Why do I care,
It’s over,
It’s done,
Yet it’s still there,
I don’t wanna go there,
I’ve been there before,
And I already know how it ends”
This song perfectly encapsulates what is running through Eve’s mind, and although Eve is saying nothing herself, the song is saying exactly what she’s thinking. Eve is in “two minds” about being reminded of Villanelle and being told that she’s working again. She also questions herself as to why she does “care”, as it is “over” and “done” between the two of them. However, like the song says, Eve knows “it’s still there”. She is obviously, and visibly, effected by the news about Villanelle; and despite the fact that she’s been “there before” with her and “already knows how it ends”, there’s still something so strong there that won’t allow her let her let go of Villanelle.
The song is an ideal choice, especially paired with the shot of Eve’s reflection being mirrored - showing us visually the “two minds” that Eve is in regarding her feelings for Villanelle.
Tumblr media
Moving on, we see Villanelle being introduced to Felix and from their conversation we can see that Villanelle still thinks about Eve and is still hurt by what happened in Rome. When Felix is telling her about his boyfriend, he says “when you love somebody and they don’t love you back, it’s worse than, it’s worse than... I don’t know what its worse than, it’s really” and then Villanelle finishes his sentence by saying “shit”. Villanelle is clearly thinking about Eve when she says this, as her profession of her love for Eve was rejected in Rome, and we can see she’s visibly upset at thinking about this.
Tumblr media
When Carolyn meets with Audrey, to ask her about Kenny, she tells Carolyn that Kenny used to sing on the toilet. This is why in S2E3 Kenny says to Eve “you weren’t listening were you?”, when he comes out of the toilets. At the end of their conversation, when Carolyn’s talking about grieving, she tells Audrey about how the “ancient celts used to mourn their loved ones with wailing and shrieking, such a public ritual for them, they weren’t embarrassed about it in the least, don’t be embarrassed, will you”. Audrey doesn’t seem like she’s embarrassed about grieving for Kenny at all, especially since she was seen crying in the toilets at Kenny’s funeral, so the comment that Carolyn makes is made because she is actually the one who feels embarrassed about grieving publicly.
Tumblr media
When Mo finds Carolyn sitting in her car in MI6’s car park, she is eating her sandwiches and listening to ‘Dido’s Lament’ by Henry Purcell, from the opera ‘Dido and Aeneas’. Dido is a character from Virgil’s ‘Aeneid’, who dramatically kills herself by setting herself on fire when her lover, Aeneas, leaves her to sail back to his homeland. Carolyn is contrasted with Dido, as she doesn’t show her grief in such an over-the-top way as Dido does - in Carolyn’s opinion, Dido is comparable with Geraldine, both of whom are comparable to the Celts who “weren’t embarrassed about it [public mourning] in the least” (but Carolyn isn’t like them and she is embarrassed).
Carolyn also comments to Mo, “what a way to go, what a terribly death. Dido, abandoned by Aeneas, dies of grief”. Although Carolyn may not relate to Dido’s public display of her grief, she does relate deeply to (and is going through) the same intensity of grief that Dido felt.
Tumblr media
At the end of the episode, when Konstantin goes to visit Villanelle at her new apartment in Barcelona, he says “look, now you are back with The Twelve, especially now, you have to know you're not safe...”, Villanelle interrupts him by saying “I’m fine” and he continues to tell her “you think you’re in control, but you’re not”.
Konstantin was most likely trying to warn Villanelle that Dasha and The Twelve were manipulating her, and he already knew they weren’t going to make her a keeper, like she asked for. We can see that (just as Konstantin goes on to tell Villanelle “you know I care about you”), that he does seem to genuinely care about her; as he was trying to warn her about what she was getting into, but she couldn’t focus on anything he had told her because the news that Eve was alive took the forefront in her mind.
Tumblr media
Just like the stylistic choice to use the ‘Two Minds’ song and a mirrored shot, for Eve’s reaction to the news about Villanelle; a Dutch Angle shot is used for Villanelle’s reaction to the news that Eve is actually alive. The Dutch Angle is a stylistic choice that is often used to reflect disorientation or an unsettled feeling.
The Dutch Angle, paired with the blurring of Konstantin in the background, similarly reflects Villanelle’s disorientation and surprise at finding out Eve, who she still has deep feelings for and thought she had killed, is actually alive.

i tried to make a thread on tumblr of my fave canon bi characters, using a relatively strict definition of “canon” - not playersexual determinant romances,  not a single obscure or possibly gag blink-and-you-miss-it line, not twitter/Word of God canon. i also ruled out characters whose “bisexuality” reads more to me like a lesbian experiencing comphet.
it was very hard lol and almost no one met all the qualifications. but the results were
the MVPs aka meeting all the above requirements
Tumblr media
dina (the last of us 2) & harley quinn (take ur pick). you’re doing amazing sweeties
fave playersexual
Tumblr media
clementine (telltale’s walking dead). i wanted to bend my own determinant rules to crown her the winner but in the end i could not. legend. icon. my apocalypse first born. so proud you grew up to (determinantly) kiss girls. the pure thrill of playing 4x01 and slowly realizing violet might legitimately be a romance option... chef’s kiss
fave ambiguous telltale protagonist
Tumblr media
this category covers almost every telltale protagonist, so it’s a crowded field. top spot however goes to my man rhys (tales from the borderlands) who is an embarrassing mess around various people and/or alien ninjas.
however, honourable mention to the scene in batman 2x05: villain route where four people in a complex unspoken love square beat the shit out of each other.
fave subtext, non-telltale edition
Tumblr media
li shang (mulan 1998) and chloe frazer (uncharted). i feel these speak for themselves
also if chloe and nadine ever come back and they’re NOT in a relationship i will legit consider it queerbaiting. naughty dog posted art of them under mistletoe at christmas. come on.
and lastly
i thought about it, but...
Tumblr media
rosa diaz (brooklyn 99) is completely unambiguously bisexual and so is the actress who plays her, which is rad. but i haven’t watched b99 since like... season 3... and also, given the current state of um everything, i will probably never watch b99 again. sorry rosa. i did enjoy you moons ago.
villanelle (killing eve) would probably never do anything she wasn’t enjoying and canonically she’s had sex with men. but romantically she’s pretty focused exclusively on women, and her story is pretty exclusively about her romantic entanglements with women. she’s the uno reverse card response to every bisexual female character who makes out with a girl one time in a single episode and then never expresses attraction to women again for the rest of the series.

Killing Eve S3, E6: “End of Game” Close, Not Close Enough
I don't watch Killing Eve for Paul or Bear or Jaime. I don't watch it for Konstantin and Carolyn or Geraldine or Irina or Dasha or Helene.   If you do, you should be pleased with “End of Game” because they all showed up.  I watch Killing Eve to see the interaction of Eve and Villanelle. Period.   Come for the relationship.  Stay for the plot. I know for some, if you're not wildly cheering every moment on Killing Eve, you must be bashing it, but that’s an unfair accusation. What got me interested in this show was[probably the same thing you were interested in: the bond between the two principle characters.  As much I enjoy the Konstantin/Villanelle, Carolyn/Konstantin and Irina/Villanelle encounters, none of those relationships are as essential as that of Eve and Villanelle. I go back to Phoebe Waller Bridge and what she said the raison d etre of Killing Eve was which was "...every moment in this show exists so that these two women can end up alone in a room together…”
Tumblr media
Season 3 has not done much to get us to that moment.   “End of Game” edges us a bit closer, but it’s a rough ride.
Konstantin's half-baked escape plan, Villanelle desiring a career change and Irina demonstrating her budding psychopath, and Carolyn's relationship with twitchy Geraldine all contribute to the plot, Carolyn meets with Eve to tell her about Dasha and meets with one of her contacts about Kenny’s phone records and confronts Paul and intimidates a flustered Konstantin into fessing up Kenny asking if he was his father admitting Geraldine kissed him in more-than-a-friendly manner and squares off with Geraldine over what’s for dinner, their fractured family and confront her daughter that she knows Geraldine has been lying to her face.
On top of all this we learn Helene and Dasha have been playing Villanelle for a sucker as the promotion to Keeper gives her a pay raise and a few more perks, but she’s still only a grunt taking orders, not giving them.   This is not what anticipated and it sends her off to meet Konstantin in Russia where she pleads to allow her to escape from The Twelve.
The price of the ticket is high.  Villanelle has to leave the fancy clothes, the beautiful apartment...and Eve...all behind.  Without hesitation, she agrees.
Surprising.
Tumblr media
There were a lot of moving parts in “End of Game.”   Niko told Eve to piss off forever.  Carolyn learned Paul is a member of The Twelve and that Kenny called Konstantin to and Geraldine is horny for him.  Eve figured out  in five minutes it was Dasha and not Villanelle who pitchforked Nico in Poland.  Villanelle can have a bad hair day and still look fabulous.  Eve knows a lot more about bowling that she tells Dasha.  Dasha tells Eve she will never touch Villanelle again and the she is a killing machine moving up in the world and Eve will never touch her again.  Paul shows up in Konstantin’s apartment and wants him to find out who ordered the hit on the accountant’s wife (Villanelle killed them both).   Konstantin decides to make a run for it and calls Irina to be ready.  When he shows up to pick her up, he’s shocked to see Irina hit her mother’s boyfriend with the SUV she’s driving and then smile at her horrified father.  And I don’t care.   Exposition-heavy episodes crammed full of dialogue and talking heads are commonly known as “info dumps” and there was a fucking ton of ii in “End of Game.” I’m sure I skipped something because at a certain point I threw up my hands and stopped giving a shit.  If all of this doesn’t serve to put E&V together again to explore what it is they have, then what’s the point? Emerald Fennell was not interested in pursuing that direction for  slammed them together in an illogical scenario that made zero sense. Suzanne Heathcote is enamored with Villanelle and has eased Eve into a guest star on Killing Villanelle.
Tumblr media
KES3 has too many characters and plots, most of which is "whodunit" TV procedural bs and not nearly enough of the one-on-one between the two principal characters. PWB struck a perfect balance. Emerald and Suzanne either gave too much or not enough of E&V. That's bad writing. Season 3 has been a series of bright moments surrounded by a lot of dead air and dead weight new characters and supporting ones, whose need for screen time, has stolen it away from the Eve and Villanelle interaction and in “End of Game” more screen time is devoted to several Carolyn backstories than Eve’s.
That was a terrible, terrible mistake.
When PWB was writing Eve and Villanelle it was the interaction between the two of them that was the fuel that fired the rest of the show. It was NEVER the plot. The plot was secondary because it was so basic. One really smart, but socially stunted and somewhat maladroit character chases after an equally smart, but socially stunted and seriously messed up character and shenanigans ensue. With Fennell and Heathcote, the two women and the same-sex attraction/electricity between them has taken a back seat to various plots and sub-plots which will have to scramble to finish up.
Tumblr media
It’s not that I don't care about the plot as much as I care more about the lead character.    Villanelle’s been a wreck, but Eve in particular, has become secondary to a storyline  that doesn’t give her a damn thing to do. I can get standard spy-vs-spy crap anywhere.  The queerness of Killing Eve is a rare bird indeed, but where has it gone?  Villanelle’s wife?  They didn’t even kiss.  Checking out a pretty girl in Barcelona?  Nice, but it didn’t go anywhere.   Take out the bus scene and what’s left? Not much, and that is a criminal wasting of Oh and Comer’s  talents. At least she’s fared slightly better with the Emmy-bait bottle episode to elevate her from the mediocrity of this season, but where’s the classic kills?  Where’s the wit?  How much longer is she going to be a complete mess?  The final two shows may prove to be the absolute best KE episodes of Heathcote’s run as showrunner, and by doing so, stick the landing and elevate what has almost certified itself as the third-best (or the first worst) of the three seasons of Killing Eve.   My skepticism has never been higher that it will.
Final Grade: B-

Happy Belated New Year! I was just wondering if, during the pandemic, you found any new (or old, but new to you) tv shows that you've fallen in love with? Or otherwise liked enough to binge and/or watch on a regularly basis? I remember noticing you mention something about the books you've read, and I wondered if the same could be applied to another creative media.
So I suppose I should preference this by saying that sometimes I watch things because they are excellent television and sometimes I watch things because they amuse me regardless of quality. I am not above being merely entertained by media; sometimes that’s all I want and frankly, I think that’s fine.
1. The Mandalorian. Which, if I am going to be honest, has saved the bloated, rotting carcass of my once-beloved Star Wars franchise for me. And not just because of Grogu, either; Pedro Pascal is great as a character who never shows his face (but still manages to express so much emotion and intent through voice and movement) and frankly, anybody who would bring Amy Sedaris in as a reoccurring character has my vote, so thank you for everything, Jon Favreau.
2. RWBY. I am not a big fan of Rooster Teeth - that sort of frat boy geek club thing they do there holds no interest for me. But I do love RWBY and, no offense to the late Monty Oum at all, but the past few seasons have really tightened the storylines and improved the writing. Also, they’ve been making an effort to bring in some diversity there which I have appreciated. (For a very much adult show, I really enjoyed gen:LOCK and am looking forward to its second season. I’ve actually been wanting to write some gen:LOCK fanfiction, so that should tell you something!)
3. Snowpiercer (Netflix). Yeah, I enjoyed this! Great cast and plot twists and turns that were earned, not just thrown in there for shock factor. Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connolly have great chemistry and it works, especially in the sort of claustrophobic atmosphere the show has. I love it when characters are morally gray and both of them play morally gray characters and it works.
4. The Untamed (Netflix). I loved this so much I watched the entirety of it twice. Obviously China took out the love story between the two main characters in the book when they filmed it (hello, state-sanctioned homophobia!) but it’s still there if you are looking for it. Gorgeous, lush costuming and scenery (although terrible wigs on the guys, wtf, ever heard of a lace front?) and some inspired casting in some of the roles. It’s that sort of swooping, epic story that I love and you don’t realize until the very end who has been pulling a lot of the strings (and when you do find out, it’s glorious).
5. Doom Patrol. This is a weird fucking show and I love it. I mean, it’s weird. But in all the ways that tick my boxes. And bless, but Brendan Fraser as a foul-mouthed Dale Earnhardt robot man is something I never knew I needed or wanted but I did, I really, really did. Also, Diane Guerrero is astonishingly good. She won’t get any awards for it - Doom Patrol is not the kind of show that gets awards - but she should.
6. Queer Eye. I watched the original when it aired nearly 20 years ago but the reboot is so much better. SO MUCH. The original was so elitist...I remember in one episode that Thom, the interior decorator, gave this couple with three small kids a glass coffee table and I was like, the fuck is wrong with you? Not only is it dangerous for them in terms of injuries but do you have a clue how often they will be cleaning dirty handprints off that thing? Same with Ted, the cooking guru, who gave complicated recipes with difficult to source ingredients which was just ridiculous. The reboot, on the other hand, is wonderful. Antoni not only teaches cooking techniques but gives recipes that people can realistically make (and pays attention to if the person has kids, is of a certain heritage, etc.). Bobby designs real homes that can be used by the people who live in them (including being kid-friendly, and disability-friendly, for example). Tan is an endless resource of real fashion advice that can benefit ANYBODY, not just sample sized people, and he doesn’t try to make people into someone they aren’t - he just enhances and polishes who they are and who they want/need to be. Jonathan is not only a joy to behold but again, is someone who gives people real grooming advice and haircuts that they can actually keep up with (as opposed to a fancy cut that will take a lot of upkeep that you know the person won’t do) and he gladly delegates to other professionals when he knows he can’t do what is needed (fixing some matted dreads, for example). Karamo is a former social worker who LISTENS to people and really connects with them one on one to help build their confidence and tackle issues. (His predecessor, Jai, was completely useless and to this day I have no idea what he was supposed to be accomplishing.) I love Queer Eye. I love how these five men show by example how men can be nurturing, caring, affectionate and supportive. I love how open they are about their own issues, how open they are with their clients about it as well. (Although I will never EVER stop being pissed off that the producers allowed that fucking white cop to pull over Karamo like that for a “joke”.)
7. The Expanse. Yes, there are a lot of differences between the show and the books. But I don’t mind them; if anything I just look at the TV show as a different entity altogether and judge it accordingly. This is the first “hard” sci-fi I’ve really enjoyed since the Battlestar Galactica reboot ended. (The reboot of Galactica remains one of my favorite TV shows of ever, btw. I’ve tried to re-watch it but it reminds me too much of my late wife and I just can’t. But that’s on me and not the show.)
8. Good Omens. This was a delight, from start to finish. I read the book when it originally came out (my paperback copy is battered and well-loved) and it makes me laugh just as much today as it did 30 years ago. What more can be said about how absolutely fantastic David Tennant and Michael Sheen are? Or the careful and loving way Douglas Mackinnon handled the source material? Neil Gaiman meant this as a love letter to his much-missed friend Terry Pratchett and it succeeded in every single way.
9. RuPaul’s Drag Race. What can I say? I watch all of its variations. It’s overblown and relies on cheap, drummed up drama and I don’t give a shit. I’ve been watching since it first premiered and continue watching. Although I’m not yet sold on the new Porkchop plot twist thing this season.
10. Killing Eve. Oh man. A love story between two women, one of whom is a sociopathic serial killer? It’s so wrong and yet so, so right. Great performances by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. I especially love that they don’t try to somehow rehabilitate Villanelle; that would just ruin the entire thing. Oh and Fiona Shaw is one of my favorite character actresses and she does not disappoint. If you like your TV dark then this is the show for you.
2020′s been a weird year for TV, for sure. Kind of scarce, thanks to the pandemic, but what can you do? Anyhow, here’s my top 10, Anon!

whats your top 5 🤔 or even 😳 top 10 🙈 villaneve scenes of the entire series?
so fun I love questions like this. ok JUST villaneve!!
1. 1x05- sorry nothing tops their first proper meeting, I think it’s one of the finest moments in television
2. 3x03- the catharsis of a little touch of the lip after two years of build up. and it was so true to their characters. the relief. the validation. the pay off!! but not too big, this is a proper slow burn!
3. 2x05- I think it’s the sexiest moment of the entire series.
4. 3x08 ballroom scene- when you get your first proper conversation of the season and a little dance dance?? there’s still so much more I want to unpack here but yes this was so sweet. when villanelle says she’s killed so many people and leans into her and eve says I know- I’ve been WAITING for this one
5. 2x08 muder & ending scene- SORRY!!!! it’s SO FUCKING HOT AND SEXY ... the TENSION... the tension?????? the tension!!!!!!!!!! it burrrrnsss it sizzzzlessss. that almost kiss?? oh mann..,,,... oh man..,,,..... that shit was too fucking good. sorry u got shot eve.
6. 3x08 bridge scene- this one goes out to all my soft stans!!! I see you thriving!!!! don’t get me wrong I love this scene but it lands lower on my list because it didn’t make me go fuck all stupid, it made me go “awwwww.” unfortunately the green screen and the song choice and the lack of touch between v and e makes it not a top 5 moment for me, but still quite beautiful
7. 1x08 - “I think about you all the time” “I mean I masturbate about you a lot” I know it’s hard to recall but your first viewing of killing eve when you genuinely did not know if these two ladies were about to fuck or kill each other- what a moment. what a moment.
8. 2x03- so fucking erotic through the door. their shared breath. konstantin having to physically restrain v. the hands up as they breathe against the door together, and it starts to sound like sex noises .,..,.. I think this scene is genuinely the most erotic of the series.
9. 2x07 end scene- if BBC America would’ve let Villanelle move a single muscle during this scene maybe it would be higher but still we love a sex by proxy scene in our slow burn
10. 2x06- when v kills in front of eve. hot

what do you wanna do w villanelle on denny after her canon update, or what do you think she will do/how will she handle things
[cracks knuckles] NOW i can tackle this.
me realizing i suddenly officially have to put all the thoughts on this i’ve been having on this over the past few months together and that i have no idea where to start: wait.
coming back to denny will be! really difficult for villanelle, actually! not just because of everything she’s been through, but because of the kind of... duality of both worlds. settling on denny once and allowing herself to have Nice Things was one thing, but when you’ve experienced for yourself that it can just be torn away from you at any time? and that you won’t even remember what you lost?
for her, it’s particularly difficult because canon ke is not really an environment where it’s easy for villanelle to form the kind of bonds she made on denny. canon villanelle has not had the kind of development that denny villanelle has had, and being jerked between these two completely different mentalities makes everything i just described THAT much more jarring. post season 3 villanelle is already in the middle of this, like, canonical identity crisis, right, and so for her to be in a world that wants denny villanelle on top of that is just. it’s just going to be a lot.
i mean! she is denny villanelle, but she also isn’t, because she’s had so many distinct experiences to alter her and she can’t just... go back to before. nevermind the fact that it’ll have been nearly a year’s worth of time for her but only a little over a week on denny, which puts a rattling distance between her and everyone else in that capacity, too.
to sum up what i’m trying to say, it’ll be... scary for her. to accept some of the Good back into her life again, knowing for sure now that one day it’ll all be taken away again. and she also really wants to figure out what kind of person she is or... wants to be, and she’s not necessarily sure the answer to either of those questions is “the villanelle that everyone remembers”, so what does she do? it’s almost another ratchet situation where a balance needs to be struck between “villanelle needs to establish her identity on her own terms” but also “other people aren’t wrong for grieving or feeling sad if she’s Not The Same”, in a way
there’s also the whole family thing, which -- god i’ve been rambling for a while now already, but i really wanted to touch on that. villanelle lost her birth family, only to come back to denny and remember that she has a found family that still loves her!!! which is a really conflicting situation. i think part of her will want to be with them more than Anything, but the other part of her does not know how to cope with this harrowing... hurt of what happened with her blood family. which won’t make sense to her. because in villanelle’s pretty simplistic view of How Emotions Work, shouldn’t she just be able to replace that family with a BETTER family? shouldn’t that fix everything? but no. love can be healing in its own right, but trauma is trauma and you have to face that eventually
i would love for her to eventually be able to talk to someone both about what happened with her mother and what happened with the twelve - the extent of how much and HOW LONG they’ve been manipulating her - but i know that she’ll probably make that difficult for a while so. we’ll see what happens.
but hopefully with all this YAPPING i’ve made it clear why her first instinct for a while will be... to avoid most people and close in on herself while she desperately figures out how to cope. what happens from there and how quickly she warms back up to having people she loves again, i think will depend on how her reunions and other future rps go! it’s one of those things you kinda have to feel out organically.
i AM going to take her post-season finale, i’ve decided, which means that the bad news is: she’ll probably be bitterly avoiding konstantin for a while, too (sorry, konstantin). the good news is that if there’s one thing season 3 has taught her, it’s that she can’t walk away from eve, and eve wouldn’t make the choice to walk away from her, so eve will probably be the one person she actually will try to find and keep in contact with right off the bat. it’s a start!
(oh, maybe natasha too, if only because once she hears natasha is kind of in deep shit for HELPING HER, she’ll feel shitty enough to want to show her face)
as far as what she’ll actually DO in the midst of all this - aside from her mansion-building scheme, which i’ve already discussed in another ask - i’m honestly not 100% sure yet! fresh off her canon update will be an opportune time to throw her at some new characters too, so who knows what kinda stuff she’ll get involved with while she’s Laying Low.
the one thing i’m really indecisive about is, like. what she is going to do PROFESSIONALLY. post season 3 villanelle seems so genuinely tired of killing, but on denny for the past however many months she’s always kinda teetered on the brink of being a fucked up anti-hero, expressly only killing Bad Guys and whatnot. maybe she’ll... play with kind of reinventing that, a bit. like. i don’t know if “vigilante” is the word i want outright (depending on your definition), but some kind of scary criminal presence who is fiercely involved with getting people out of Bad Situations.
a little while ago i played with the idea of like. a villanelle who goes after groups that recruit and weaponize people (which reminds me! firebrand!!! villanelle is NOT going to want to go back to firebrand but, she’s also not going to want to leave ruby and pyrrha there, so she might. go back for their sakes, but in a very different context, which’ll be really interesting??) and also recently i did a private rp with a friend where she unexpectedly wrote herself into  “i’m going to make compassionate choices out of spite to fuck over all the people who only ever wanted me to be a weapon and a monster” so... idk! we’ll see what happens to her on denny!
also: i haven’t decided yet if she’d go back to calling herself oksana. for right now i think it’ll stay something she only wants eve to call her while she uses Villanelle as a kind of barrier against. everything and everyone else, but who knows. i’ve always said that kind of development from her would make me SOB

my top 10 series of 2019~
aka i gush about shiz i watched this year for waaaaaay too long lol...
i watched a lot of stuff this yr (well... it felt like a lot? there’s a lot more i wanted to watch but i’m terrible at time management lol...) so let’ssss explore that in a ~numbered list~ lol
(spoilers - there’s a lot of gay shit here lol... what can i say, twentybiteen really pulled thru lol)
10 - Stranger Things (series 3)
Tumblr media
i know some people didn’t like this series, but i legit thought it was really good lol... i felt it had gone back to the style of the 1st series a lil more? (whereas series 2 had felt a lil disappointing in a way??) & i loved all the new characters introduced (robin is a personal fav, obv), & the whole splitting off into the lil groups was really effective in not just feel like it’s always the same group together, and it also allowed for some interesting character moments!
visually, stranger things always looks amazing! but i thought the whole summer/july 4th vibes really made it especially stunning tbh... as most things on this list, i’ve only seen it once, so i would like to rewatch it at some point (actually wanna do a full stranger things marathon tbh i was trying to explain what had happened in the show to my friend who stopped watching it early in series 1 & it was so difficult to remember exactly what had happened in it lool... )
there were obv things about it that i wasn’t as big on, like the whole evil russian-invincible guy was v cliche and kinda silly, & some of the actions scenes were a bit awkward(?) feeling... but i’m a sucker for any 80′s style media so those things just reminded me of the goonies or some shit lol
9 - Ghosts
Tumblr media
actually the funniest & cutest series ever tbh!!! as someone who grew up with horrible histories with the original cast, this just made me immensely happy to see the whole team together again! the humour style is v similar to horrible histories too btw, though i feel they let themselves have a lil more ‘dark humour’ than in that (since this is more a general audience, whereas hh was definitely more aimed at kids tbh... tho they still won a comedy award for it lol! actual legends lol anyway...)
only downside is that it’s only 1 series atm & it’s pretty short... but i know there’s gonna be a new series at some point so i’m v excited for that!! i feel there’s sooooo many places they can go with the concept (i.e. exploring how/when the other characters died (like kitty!!! i need to know her story lol i love her!), maybe introducing another character who can see ghosts?? like a medium/psychic or something/etc ...) but legit, please watch this if u haven’t!!!
8 - Good Omens
Tumblr media
this pretty much took over the internet this year lbr lol & tbh i’d def say it was worthy of the praise!! ineffable husbands aside, the main story is super engaging and enjoyable, with some really awesome side characters (& some of my fav character designs in anything ever tbh!!) but definitely the biggest draw was the ‘6000 years mutual pining’ romance which they did so well lol & it was something that was genuinely so lovely to watch tbh!! i also really loved the ending message of the show! i really hope to rewatch this next year when i think it’s gonna be aired on british tv at last????
downsides would be that the plot can be a bit confusing at times? but maybe that’s just me being dumb lol... but i imagine it’s a lot easier to understand if u’ve read the book lol?? i don’t have a problem w/ aziraphale & crowley not being “explicitly” gay or whatnot (i know i’ve seen some people annoyed with this?), since the whole idea of their relationship is so much larger than just them bonking or whatevs lol? (in general i think more media should have less focus on kissing/intimacy as an indication of love/romance... which is something i’ve already talked about lol)
oh, and the title sequence is INCREDIBLE lol i seriously loved it so much!!
7 - Killing Eve (series 2)
Tumblr media
finally finished this the other day & it was so good!!! i really love the dark comedic tone of the show tbh & i def feel there was more of it in the 2nd series then the first! i also liked the further development of villanelle & eve’s relationship, which is obv the highlight of the show tbh! there was also a nice lot of twists tbh, though i’d say it was a lil less intense than the 1st series? (overall i’d say i prefer the 1st series, but the 2nd was a fab continuation... btw i also watched the 1st series this yr lol)
negative points are that the plot wasn’t quite as interesting as the 1st series... i think cos the focus of the murders was taken off of villanelle that we lost some of that drama from the 1st? i thought the ghost was gonna be a more integral part but she was kinda weirdly pushed aside once we learnt her identity? & the creepy son dude just annoyed me lol (but i suppose that was the point lol...)... so like yh there were lil things that didn’t engage me as much as the first, but overall i still really enjoyed it lol
this is def fulfilling the hannibal-shaped hole in my heart tbh... (another series i finished this yr...)
6 - Dark Blue Kiss the series
Tumblr media
look, it’s no surprise this is on my list lol... i was hella hyped for this series when it was announced last yr, even though my expectations were VERY LOW after kiss me again the series (which, lbr, is a massive mess lol... like it’s My Mess tho)... but for real, this series really exceeded all my expectations... & then some! like i’m legit shook at how good it was ngl! especially morksun’s storyline, which was by far my fav in the show (as much as i’m petekao trash lol...) also, i was surprised by how genuinely pretty this show is! esp in comparison to kma (like i know i keep going on about the goddamn bruise makeup but it is so ugly in kma, but they really did a great job in dbk tbh!)
ok so there’s a lot of flaws lol... like... a lot (i’m already complained a lot so i won’t bore u with that rn lol...) but for real, the thing that i love the most about this is the discussions of coming out/homophobia/general young people struggles/etc etc which is so refreshing to see in these series! like i love that despite the cheesy tropes, it still knows when to be serious & genuine...
5 - He Is Coming To Me
Tumblr media
another thai series, i believe this has the same director as dbk? (don’t hold me to that tho...)... legit one of the best, if not the best, thai series i’ve ever seen tbh! so adorable, so well acted, so funny & heartwarming like... legit it’s so good!! i was already excited about it from the trailer, but the way it really delivered on the emotionality, whilst keeping it lighthearted, was truly wonderful tbh! the main actors did a brill job i gotta say, and all the side characters were amazing too (there really wasn’t a character i didn’t like i’d say tbh? i need to rewatch tbh... there’s a lot i’ve forgotten since this came out p early in the year lol)... also, visually it’s so pretty!! i swear the cinematography in these thai series just keeps getting better & better & it def improves the watching experience tbh!
a down point would be that the first ep is a bit slow/awkward to get in to... & i think it def could put someone off? but i’d say to stick w/ it since it just keeps getting better & better! i’d actually say there isn’t really anything else i didn’t like about it ngl? it’s just so good guys... u really need to watch it!
4 - Russian Doll
Tumblr media
probs the only series on this list that i actually actively went to rewatch straight away lol (didn’t do a full rewatch btw)... it was SO good for real! i already loved the premise lol (it’s basically groundhog day, which is already such a great film, but they explored those ideas even more in this which i loveeeed) the leads are fantastic, and the story is generally so interesting!  plus the editing & song choices are really brill tbh...
my one complaint would probs be that the series loses a lil momentum at certain points (esp later in the series), but it still keeps ur interest, and the ending is really well done too! i know there’s gonna be a 2nd series, so i’m really hoping it’ll be able to live up to this one, and also explore more of the characters/concepts/etc! i’m def hyped for it tbh!
i feel like this series is simultaneously underrated and also v well known lol?? like i know everyone sees that ‘thursday! what a concept’ meme but i feel like i didn’t see as many people talk about it as much as other series this yr???
(for my top 3, i’d say i love them all equally/for different reasons... so the order they’re in is changeable lol)
3 - Gentleman Jack
Tumblr media
one of the greatest bbc series of the year, maybe even the decade lol! actually a masterpiece of cinematography, incredible acting, gorgeous costumes, beautiful depictions of love and intimacy, hilarious characterisation & just generally a wonderful series!! like i can’t praise it enough! it’s literally everything i could ever want from a series, and more!!!!!!! like everytime i think about it i just feel like ‘!!!!!’ constantly lol... like... what did we do to deserve such a series for real?? something that i esp loved was that i vividly remember not that long ago w/ people complaining about the bbc for having minor lgbtq characters in things, so to have a actual main lesbian couple series be on prime time bbc telly is kinda mind blowing lol... like.. i know we’ve got a long way to go, but it does make me immensely proud!!
i have no complaints lol... other than - needed to be longer (i think we’re getting a 2nd series right???? i hope so tbh!!)
2 - The Untamed
Tumblr media
look, i don’t make 15 piece series’ for nothing lol... this show really got to me ngl... like i knew it was gonna be amazing from seeing tonnes of mutuals start watching it & praising it.. .but ohhhhhhhh boy i wasn’t reading for the angst and heartbreak and just generally how invested i’d be in all the characters lol... like genuinely there’s so much to praise about this show! it may not be as super ‘polished’ as some of the other shows on this list, but it really has so much heart and hard work and dedication put into it which really shows in the final  product!
there’s obv issues with it, but i feel like it’s kinda unnecessary to go over them lol? there’s so much more of this series that has brought me genuine joy, the biggest being the fact they were still able to depict a really beautiful, loving and /romantic/ relationship despite the strict censor is truly incredible lol!! like w/ good omens, it just shows what you can do to depict love/romance without having to over-sexualise something...
i feel like i’m saying less for these top 3, but it’s just cos i’ve already gush to high heavens about how much i love them lol...
1 - HIStory 3 - Trapped
Tumblr media
you - *pretends to be shocked that this is my number 1*
yeh... no surprises that this is in my top 3 lol... what can i say that i haven’t already screamed about for months??? this series truly surpassed any expectations i could have had for a HIStory series... the story line is complex & pretty well done (it’s not perfect... but nothing is so....), the characters are wonderful & also brilliantly acted! i think the thing that i love the most is that the director wanted to create a series that wasn’t just a cheesy gay series (don’t get me wrong, i loVE cheesy gay series’ lol... ) but also would have a more interesting, well developed & more ‘mature’ story line (i think esp in comparison to other HIStory series’ which are usually school/uni based)... it’s also one of the few lgbtq series i’ve seen that isn’t just about ‘first loves’, and doesn’t place a big emphasis on a sexuality/identity crisis... it’s just so unabashedly a mystery-romance drama, which is just so refreshing to see! & i genuinely hope we can see more series like this, where gay characters don’t need to ‘prove’ themselves in order to be in a series or to be in relationships (which it often feels like, where writers need to explain /why/ characters are gay...)...
phew... that’s a lot of text lol, just like w/ the untamed, i feel like i’ve already talked about the negative points of the series (plot holes, awkward moments, weird editing/sound choices, bad tropey plots), but the positives of this series seriously make it worthwhile, and i’m just so so SO happy this show exists lol...
all 3 of these series have a special place in my heart of inspiring lots of my own exploration of art, as well as writing, which has been really crucial in me understanding what i wanna do with my life (i know that sounds kinda weird, but at the start of the year i really didn’t know what i wanted... and i wasn’t even sure what i was good at lol... so thru these shows i was able to discover a lot more about my own style of working & thru all of them i was able to meet some wonderful new people on here which has made 2019 actually one of my most enjoyable years on tumblr!
this has been an...... interesting year lol... but definitely these shows made it just a lil bit better!!!
Happy new year to anyone who actually read thru this & let’s hope 2020 brings us even more brill shows ~~~

KILLING EVE - S1 Ep 3 & 4
Still bivouacked on my couch using words like bivouacked and drinking liters of hippie echinacea tea, distracting myself with KILLING EVE. It’s like Hannibal meets Le Carré meets, like, GLOW. I’M SO INTO IT. SO MANY WEIRD BABES. IN THS ONE I *CRY*
Season 1, Episode 3 - ‘Don’t I Know You?’
Eve describing Villanelle like Dolly Parton describing Jolene...incredible
Bill, hilarious: agrees with me
wow this BDSM “recreational hospital” is a whole Thing I had no idea even existed!
actually! fun fact: chickens just have the one chute for everything
ah Niko backed me up
Bill has a little bebe!
ooohhhhh sNAP. haha nice move, Vill
just sitting there with her coffee and her cat eye sunglasses, hair all looped up on top of her head
wow Villanelle very very deliberately wants to sleep with Eve!!!!! Killing Eve arrives at the homoerotic killer/detective plot — subtext: text, characters: out.
“Now I am going to HIDE and you are going to FIND ME.” aaahahaasdkfjak
the actor who plays Bill has the same dark crinkly eyes as Mark Rylance
“Anything for this old tart!” yay
…the glitter morgue? these two have stories
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is there a scene where Villanelle DOESN’T eat something!
puts Eve’s scarf around her neck then picks up her toothpaste going “Aw!” I CAN’T. [edit: misidentified product! still a gr8 moment]
“Listen, that is massively poignant.”
the Chinese attaché is a trip
Bill’s explaining the contract psychology of how control kinks work and everyone’s like “…”
Bill!
she’s - dressing - her!
Tumblr media
fucking superb
EVE & BILL ARE SO CUTE
BILL IS VERY UNEXPECTED AND WELCOME QUEER REPRESENTATION!!?
now Bill’s trying to get Eve to admit she’s bi too, this is GREATSAUCE
Bill if you get murdered I’m gonna through a hissy fit! slow down!
nooooo!!!!! a nightmare!!!!
Bill was my good boy :(
Season 1, Episode 4 - ‘Sorry Baby’

eventually the investigator always wants to kill their personal murder bête noire with their bare hands
Tumblr media
oh do love those big round ballons
SHE DRESSED UP AS KONSTANTIN FAKE BEARD AND EVERYTHING AND IS SHOUTING HAPPY BIRTHDAY OH MY GOD THAT’S THE MOST FANTASTICALLY WEIRD WAY TO CELEBRATE SOMEONE
my internal monologue just like “cute toy oH MY GOD FEAR”
is it just me or does this fellow assassin have a passing resemblance to Niko
…Anna???
I’m thinking no Anna
“I know you care about me, we all know you care about me. Sometimes I think that’s all you have.” W ow. Eve..
haha Vill’s gonna kill both of them before she kills Eve
she said she hated all her clothes and now HER TERRIBLE MURDER GF BOUGHT HER NEW ONES
Tumblr media
SHRIEKING!!!!! SHRIEKING
it delights me on some deep level that Eve is American, like watching Sandra Oh run around London with all these British special agents is tapping into some sort of self-insert fantasy I’ve harbored for years
Eve: [hurries up breathless] Carolyn, calm, comfortingly stern: “Take a minute.” Eve: [inarticulate panting] Carolyn: “Look at the sausages.” #mom
wow I love Carolyn
“It is disappointing when the mole is the one who looks most like a rodent.” CAROLYN
Tumblr media
is this Hot Fuzz
[nearly spills chicken paprikash] aahh the assassins are the ones who just drove into town! they’re here to kill Frank!! shit everything is coming up Frank… and not in a good way for him
yeah, this “team” is just….not as elegant or efficient as Villanelle on her own
Oksana!
nice
oh she’s gonna murderize her, that girl is going under the wheels
bye bye Nadia
dang this is gettin to be all kinds of Le Carré! Russia! moles! how deep does it go! I’m living
Eve: “Frank! Are you running or are you crying?” Frank: “Running and crying!” Big Mood

Killing Eve Gets Shut-Out the Emmy’s (but is that a reason to be happy?)
One of the wild things about being a part of the Killing Eve fandom is it NEVER gets boring.  The last episode aired over three months ago, but fresh new drama and beef and controversy swirls around like a spritz of La Villanelle. This particular one was interesting to me because of the passion inflamed and the players involved.
Tumblr media
Shit. Got.  Real.
One one side there is V-for-Villanelle, a splendid (and underappreciated writer) whom is a passionate defender of both the third season of Killing Eve and its head writer, Suzanne Heathcote.  On the other is villanelle_bridge, whom I follow as well, but don’t know at all (In full disclosure V-for-Villanelle is a frequent beta reader/editor for most of my Ao3 works and I, for hers  I consider her a friend and an ally).
villanelle_bridge’s position that the show’s eight Emmy nominations and no wins was something it had coming due to Heathcote dropping the ball is a bit harsh, but not entirely wrong.  Now Season 3 isn’t my favorite, but any success it has is shared from the top down, not the bottom up.
Tumblr media
If Heathcote deserves credit for what she got right, she deserves blame for what she got wrong.  To be sure, villanelle_bridge was far from alone in thinkingght KES3 got exactly what it had coming.
Exactly nothing.
Tumblr media
V-for-Villanelle sharply disagreed and owes no explanation to anyone for taking  villanelle_bridge to task for dragging the show, but it applies to villanelle_bridge, as well.   No explanations and no apologies expected or needed. This is what the phrase, “I said what I said” means.
For my part, V-for-Villanelle brought up a few thought-provoking points I want to delve further into.  Her remarks are in italics.
Did Suzanne Heathcote rescue Killing Eve from a creative slump or did she deepen it?
Tumblr media
All this fandom has done is blame and attack Suzanne for perceived failures, now the latest example being the 2020 Emmys. Personally, I think Suzzanne is brilliant and she rejuvenated a show  that was in a very bad place after Season 2. Besides that Suzanne Heathcote is an incredibly accomplished writer and showrunner (along with the cast, crew, producers, and co writers). Trust me, she knows what she’s doing.
That’s a pretty declarative remark but it is based upon...what?  Suzanne Heathcote was a producer and writer on the fourth season of a Walking Dead spin-off,  Fear the Walking Dead, that wasn’t very good, See and a short film. As a writer and/or producer, Heathcote’s only nominated TV work is for Killing Eve.
We know how that turned out for her.
What is this rejuvenation Heathcote supposedly accomplished?   I am on record as being one of the harshest of the harsh when it comes to how much I detested how insufferably awful Eve became in the second season.   It takes a lot to make a murderer of multiple women, men and children worth cheering for more than the supposed “hero”, but Eve was such a miserable bitch to even an extra-soft Villanelle, that by the time they got to the ruins, more than a few fans were happy to see her get shot.
Eve became undeserving of our sympathy after committing multiple self-destructive acts of betrayal, selfishness, bad judgment and worse decisions, but it wasn’t a betrayal of her character.  Eve was moving headlong into the Dark Side and the process was unpleasant to watch, but justifiable to move her where she had to go.
There were too many scenes of Villanelle being threatened and throttled by misogynist men like Julian and Raymond who choked her out not once, but twice.  Yet her emotional evolution from the cocky smart-ass who boasted how amazing she was to the heartsick, but still highly dangerous assassin she became also felt naturalistic.  We saw the steps Villanelle took and the pain she experienced waking up to her long dormant humanity.
Fennell dropped The Twelve from their position of looming threat for a decidedly less interesting pair of villains.   The Ghost gave Eve a new killer to chase after for a few episodes (and several moments of Eve’s viciousness when she warned the Ghost to come quietly or get shot in the head and then enlisted Villanelle to extract information from the silent assassin in what likely included some physical torture).
Aaron Peel was another misogynist, albeit a richer and a more controlling one, but as a threat he was quickly dismissed by Villanelle as if Fennell had simply lost interest in him.
Tumblr media
When Phoebe Waller-Bridge departed the show in 2019,  she tapped the veteran actress/writer/producer Fennell to carry on where she left off and from the perspective of critics and audiences as calculated by Rotten Tomatoes, PWB was going to be a tough act to follow and it was, but not that tough.
Fennell began the second season minutes after the shocking twist ending where Villanelle flees after being stabbed by an angry and treacherous Eve.  Whatever creative cliff KE went over with the Ghost and Aaron Peel plotlines, it didn’t signal a huge fall of the premiere season.
Tumblr media
Dropping four points with notoriously hard-to-please professional critics and only two with fickle audiences is not a reason to push the panic button.  Losing six points overall from Killing Eve Season 1 is no reason to not pop the champagne.
Season 3 debuted with a seemingly arbitrary six-month fast-forward with zero explanation of what Villanelle and Eve had done all that time.  The show dropped an ugly 12 points with critics who yawned with ”been-there-bored-with-that” disinterest and eight points with audiences.  Meaning between Fennell and Heathcote, Killing Eve dropped 20 points between the two groups and 26 points since the PWB glory days.
Tumblr media
Those are not impressive numbers to support a description of Heathcote as “an incredibly accomplished writer and showrunner.”   To the contrary, any BBCAmerica executive who notices Killing Eve fared well under Fennell, but  cratered under Heathcote would insist she be replaced as the showrunner if the one-and-done mandate laid down by Waller-Bridge wasn’t being followed.
The ruins are not where Fennell left the show for Heathcote to rescue as the numbers from Rotten Tomatoes illustrate it was under her guidance that the bloom began to fade from Killing Eve’s roses of success.
What Happened to All the Winning?
Tumblr media
We’re here due to a snarky response to Killing Eve getting curb-stomped at the 2020 Emmy’s.  Whether or not what villanelle_bridge said rude or simply sarcastic rests in the eye of the beholder, and V-for-Villanelle clearly sees it as rude.  That’s her prerogative, but we all should know by now that award shows aren’t important and what they really mean are bragging rights and some perks in somebody’s contact kicking in.
The British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), the Emmy’s, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) are the Big Four for television talent to receive recognition as they play dress up and smile pretty as they walk the red carpet in designer duds.  In three seasons, Killing Eve has enjoyed a slew of nominations for its producers, actors and technicians.
The big difference is under Waller-Bridge and Fennell many of those nominations translated into actual wins.   No more.  With Heathcote in charge KE was blanked at the BAFTA’s and erased from the Emmy’s, despite being up for eight nominations.   With the minor exception of Jodie Comer winning a second Best Actress from the TV Choice Awards, her show’s third season has received the Willy Wonka treatment from its peers.
Tumblr media
If numbers matter, Suzanne Heathcote shrunk the approval of Killing Eve with both audiences and critics and received a chilly receptions from the entertainment establishment despite the award-bait “Are You From Pinner” episode.  Emphasizing the White co-lead and supporting characters as its Asian lead recedes in the background was a choice and as the lead writer/showrunner, Suzanne Heathcote was in position to reap the benefits had it worked.
It didn’t, and Heathcote’s bad calls have led to a split in the fandom, complaints from its lead actress about a lack of racial diversity in front and behind the camera, and an embarrassing shut-out at the major awards shows.   If that isn’t dismal failure, it can’t be characterized as a raging success.
KE is running out of gas and is nearly on fumes.  Season 2 was no prize, but Season 3 literally has won no prizes.
