and the roses smiled [WhiteRose - RWBY]
[[A/N: Author Allie here. I wrote this somewhere around the beginning of Volume 4 of RWBY, so, most of the tragic stuff didn’t happen in this glorious future lol. Otherwise, enjoy!]]
A beautiful scene plays out before a young woman. It’s autumn, leaves in a spectacular array of warm colors falling from the trees of the magnificent forest behind her, looking like a soft, colorful fall of rain. Wind blew gently in one direction, not yet rough enough to cause the young woman annoyance in needing to fix her hair, but soft enough for her to smile serenely. The grass is soft and still freshly cut around the area, surrounding a field of roses in full bloom.
In the center of it all, a tombstone. A grave of a hero. Words of poetry etched onto its surface.
There Ruby Rose stood, twenty-one years of age, holding a single rose in her hands, staring down at the tombstone with a look of both warmth and hurt in her silver eyes. Her red hood is up, covering her hair that had grown out long enough to touch her shoulder blades.
She stands in silence for a moment, letting the wind and the leaves speak for her heart. Then she reaches up with a single hand, pulling the hood off of her head. There is a pendant in her hair - a white snowflake, small but intricate and beautifully placed atop a hastily-done braid of red and black hair. Her skin has tanned just the slightest bit from her travels, holding a few more scars than she used to have, but her father is adamant that she still remains an almost perfect copy of her mother.
“Hey, Mom,” she mutters almost inaudibly, confident that her audience could hear her anyway. “It’s been a while.”
She lets her words hang in the air for a moment, gathering her thoughts as if presenting to a room and wanting to choose the right words to pitch. She takes a deep breath, smelling the roses and the wind.
“But I finally brought her with me,” she grins warmly, a sparkle in her silver eyes that has seen so much pain in such a short amount of time. She turns slightly, motioning behind her. Another woman steps forward, just a couple of years older than Ruby. She is wearing a white and blue dress - a combat skirt, of course - and her hair, snow-white and shorter than it has ever been, is held up in an intricate ponytail full of twirls and braids. Her eyes are ice-blue and cold, but they hold so much more warmth and love in them than most would ever know.
This ice-blue woman walks up to the girl in red, and holds out her hand. Ruby grabs it without hesitation, without a thought. It was so natural now, a second nature.
“I figured you’d want to meet her - I know it’s been so long since we last spoke, but I promised to bring my girlfriend the next time I visited, remember?” She continues, still in a whispered tone, but a little louder now for her audience of two. “So, here she is, the famed Weiss Schnee!”
She tilts a little, bumping her shoulder with the other woman, and they both grin. Weiss smiles like she’s trying not to find it amusing, but can’t deny that it is.
Weiss looks down at the gravestone, only the slightest downward tilt to her lips proof enough of the sorrow she felt in her heart at the sight. She squeezes Ruby’s hand tighter, and smiles - it was not a smile that she would show to a wealthy contributor to the SDC, not a smile that her father taught her to give when she was told to be a proper lady - it was a genuine smile that breaks through her icy exterior. Something special that only those who have earned her trust through trial and hardships have had the pleasure of seeing. She gives a little bow, speaking softly,
“It’s so nice to finally meet you, Mrs. Rose.”
She feels Ruby squeeze her hand back.
“Ruby talks about you all the time,” Weiss continues after she stands up straight again, her tone playful and jovial like speaking to an old friend. Warm, comforting. “She tells me about how you would slay Grimm, save lives, and still have the time to come home and read stories to your children.”
She smiles. “Yang talks about you, too - mostly the things Ruby doesn’t want to mention. Like how you once watched a young Ruby struggle to fit a stale cookie into a glass of milk before she started crying for your help-”
Ruby elbows her in the side, laughing loudly. “I have no idea where she got that idea from, I promise!” She side-eyes her girlfriend with a stink eye. Weiss lets out a laugh that is warm and genuine.
“-And how she once climbed up a tree to reach a bird’s nest and then refused to come down, so you had to build a treehouse just for her-” She continues, but is interrupted by the very girl she was speaking about.
“--Maybe we should tell her about how you accidentally summoned a boarbatusk in the middle of some fancy-schmancy party in Atlas-”
For the next minute or so, they speak over each other, sharing embarrassing stories of each other to the empty space in front of them. The roses planted on the ground rustle in the wind, almost sounding like a gentle laughter if you strained your ears hard enough.
The arguing ends and Ruby grumbles something about needing a sugar break, saying a small, heartfelt farewell to her mother’s tombstone before walking off with a promise of ‘getting even’ later. Weiss smiles, but doesn’t follow her girlfriend away from the circle of roses. She waits, watching her go. When she is far enough away, likely on her way back down to her father’s cabin out deeper into the woods, Weiss turns back around to the grave. The wind is silent now, as if waiting for her to speak the first word in this new, stilting quiet.
She steps forward into the circle of flowers, and looks a little nervous for a moment.
“Mrs. Rose,” she begins, polite and formal as her father would have liked her to be. She pauses, and takes a deep breath.
“Summer Rose,” she corrects herself, her voice so soft and quiet. “I… I am sorry you couldn’t be here for Ruby… I’m sorry your time was cut short so soon, too soon. I just wanted to let you know… I am always here for her. I know I can’t replace a mother’s love, and I don’t intend to. I just…” She pauses, a lump in the back of her throat that made it difficult to speak. She clears her throat, and pretends the tears in her eyes aren’t there.
“I love her... so much,” she whispers. “And I…”
She pulls something out of her pocket, small and black. A box of some sort. She runs her fingers over the top of it for a moment, feeling the weight of the box. It was so small, but so heavy on her heart.
“I hope that I can be there for her for as long as possible, always,” she whispers, looking back up at the grave, as if asking something with her eyes. An unasked question for permission.
A particularly strong gust of wind passes through the forest, bringing a flurry of leaves and flowers into the surrounding area. The rose garden bristles, the gentle laughter floating in the wind back again. At her feet, a wind-swept rose lays gently, freshly bloomed but the colors obvious anyway. Red, pink, fading to white. An unspoken answer, granted.
Weiss shuts her eyes, and lets out a single huff of air as tears slip down her cheeks - cracked porcelain, still so beautiful and perfect despite the wear and tear of the years. She stuffs the small box back into her pocket, and smiles. She bows to the grave, to the space that was empty and full at the same time, low and grateful and genuine.
“I’ll do everything I can for her, I promise - I will protect her with my life, and I hope… I hope I can make her happy.”
She wipes away the tears, and spends a minute longer simply standing in silence. It was so peaceful, so happy out here. She turns around, and leaves the singular grave, fingers nervously tapping at the small, black box in her pocket with a look of new-found determination in her eyes.
“I hope I can make her as happy as she makes me.”
And the roses smiled.

My Christmas-delayed thoughts on Mr. Robot’s finale episodes 412 & 413 (Part 2)
More thoughts that I doubt anyone will read but I need to get out of my brain, yay!
Elliot, Robot, & Darlene
It now makes so much sense why Robot at times was so angry & violent toward Elliot, & why Robot became more subdued & cautious as Elliot became more aggressive & less empathetic (prior to 407, when his walls began breaking down).
Also, Darlene’s kidnapping story parallels Elliot’s perfect world construct in that they both felt they had everything they wanted but they ultimately realized they wouldn’t be fulfilled because they wouldn’t have each other.
Elliot’s story is about his struggle with mental illness. His story also brings us to reflect on the ideas of perfection vs reality, power dynamics, what it means to love another person & oneself, the nature of society vs the individual, survival & perseverance, & more.
What does the Host look like?
Short answer: Rami. Long answer:
In Elliot’s system, his alters from his perspective look like who they most represent. Mastermind represents a version of himself (the vigilante hacker with an exciting life & purpose), so he would look like himself/Rami. Robot looks like his dad because he represents a version of his dad. The Mother/Persecutor looks like his mom. Little Elliot looks like himself as a kid. We see Rami, Christian Slater, Vaishnavi Sharma, & Evan Whitten because we are looking at the world from Mastermind’s point of view. But everyone else sees Rami regardless of which alter is fronting. In scenes where Elliot is not present (and therefore we are not seeing things through his eyes), Elliot looks like Rami. Dom shows Darlene the FBI’s perp wall, which has Rami/Elliot’s picture. Price says to Whiterose, “all this over a little pipsqueak in a hoodie” & others describe him as a scrawny kid in a hoodie. Rami is a skinny little thing so the description fits. I know some have wondered if The Eye at the end is actually Rami’s eye; I’ve seen so many pictures of his eyes that I’d wager a limb that it’s his eye.
Whiterose & the Machine, Perfect Worlds
Whiterose wanted to create a perfect world where she could live as herself. She also thought she could create perfect worlds for others; by building a Very Large Hadron Collider under the Washington Twp nuclear power plant & messing around with quantum physics, I think she was maybe trying to create miniature black holes that could send someone through time or into another universe, but she was unable to make that happen because the theoretical physics she studied could not be done with the resources she had (hence the move to the Congo where she’d have the ability to build a larger power source).
Whiterose is a master at manipulation, especially of vulnerable people like Angela, just like a cult leader. She was the greatest con artist of the Mr. Robot world, feeding off of people’s insecurities, vulnerability, & greatest hopes. She was able to get everyone not only to buy into her idea, but also to sacrifice their lives for her & the Dark Army. Butwhat she doesn’t understand, which Elliot points out, is that creating a perfect world & forcing people into it is not good because Whiterose’s world is built for her & her ideals, and not everyone wants that. You can’t make a world that is ideal for everyone because of human nature & the differences between individuals. Every story about a utopia involves those who try to break free because something’s not right, or their free will & ability to self-express is suppressed.
Elliot, having been used & abused so badly, is so distressed by the world allowing those with power or influence to use & abuse others, that he feels the only way to live in the world is to change it (as opposed to Whiterose wanting to create a new one). So out comes the Mastermind to make that happen while host Elliot is sequestered in a construct resembling what Mastermind thinks is an ideal world free of pain & suffering, with an endless loop of normalcy. (We’ve seen the Mastermind try to do the same thing for himself by getting himself sent to prison). Mastermind eventually realizes that the perfect world he created for the Host is not what it seems. The Host says that the routine is the best & worst thing about his life; it’s safe & predictable, yet he secretly yearns for something more subversive & exciting.
Mastermind tries to take his position in that world because he thinks he’ll be happy and he wants so badly to be happy that he’d kill part of himself to get it. But he learns that perfection is a farce & that world will never be complete without Darlene. He realizes that although the real world is full of bad things that happen, it’s the unconditional love of those key people in your life that heal you, and you can change the world by being yourself & staying true to your ideals in spite of everything. Whiterose died with her belief in the perfect world. Elliot lived knowing that not only is there no such thing, but also that you can’t hide from your problems by forgetting the bad & hiding in a loop of normalcy. Facing your fears, trauma, etc. with the help of loved ones is how you heal & grow, making your world better.
So much more to talk about but this is long enough. I love this show so freaking much.

Ruby and Jaune the perfect friendship
Hello dear followers of RWBY at the request of many, here is the review of the Lancaster.
Before starting I must say my sincere opinion about the ship ... it is much better than Rosegarden or Jaune x Weiss ... but does it have romantic potential?
To answer that question we must return to the begginig.
Lancaster in the first 3 Volumes:
I must say that Jaune in the first 3 volumes spends a lot of his time developing his character with Pyrrha and of course with the constant rejection of Weiss...something that is worth noting is that Jaune never felt the slightest attraction to Ruby:
The first interaction of Ruby and Jaune was in the 1x2 where he is kind, they talk about entering school ... Jaune talks about how the "girls" love his name, but does not include Ruby.
Tumblr media
The second was in the 1x4 where Jaune is rejected by Weiss and is humiliated, something to highlight is that Jaune does not invite Ruby to his group or anything, Ruby here helps him get up.
Tumblr media
The other was in chapter 1x8 where Jaune falls to the tree and meets Ruby, but she sees the Grimm coming and ignores him.
Tumblr media
The next interaction was in the 1x13 where Ruby tells Jaune not to give up since this is not about being better for him ... but for his team.
There is nothing from Volume 1 that truly indicates "Lancaster" in fact its dynamics were minimal but enough to understand their friendship.
Tumblr media
In Volume 1 the great dynamics were that of Weiss-Ruby and that of  Jaune-Pyrrha (that is an undeniable fact)
Tumblr media
Something that you can notice is that Ruby and Jaune's narrative does not change (from the beginning they were friends and they never go beyond that) ... but let's continue
Vol 2
In this Vol the JPNR team does not come out much, but as I mentioned before most of the time Jaune is having development with Pyrrha and of course Weiss rejection was to make Jaune grow as a character ... he has almost nothing with Ruby in this Volume.
Tumblr media
The first real interaction between the two in this volume was the 2x7 where both are like the "misfits" but Jaune does not invite her to dance or anything like that, again her narrative was focused on Pyrrha ... Jaune talk more with Neptune than with Ruby in that chapter.
Did I say something negative about the ship? ... Obviously no, I'm just showing you that the show really does not give them time on screen or "development" because they are already friends, there nothing more than that
Tumblr media
After that interaction in chapter 7 they do not have any interaction even in chapter 12 of that vol
To summarize things at the end of the Vol there are scenes where you could say that all the “pairs” of the series are together
Tumblr media
we could make a comparison with Whiterose interactions in that volume ... but I think that everyone understands the point?
Tumblr media
Vol 3
What can I say about this Volume? There was definitely a good development of Whiterose ... but this review is not about that.
Tumblr media
Ruby was the first to know the role model and the only family that Weiss appreciates
Tumblr media
Ruby and Weiss share a moment at the end of Vol 3 like all the main ships (in addition to Weiss ignoring Neptune)
Tumblr media
It should be noted that at the Battle of Beacon ... where the greatest dynamics are focused in no side, Ruby and Jaune are joined ... in fact it is the opposite
Tumblr media
In this volume Ruby and Jaune did not have any development or conversations at all ... in fact the only conversation they have about something relevant was in the final chapter where Jaune team decides to accompany Ruby ... even in the fall of Beacon when Jaune calls by phone, he does it to Weiss and not to Ruby.
Tumblr media
As we could see in the first 3 volumes there was literally not much between Jaune and Ruby, their interactions in total of 3 Volumes did not exceed 10 minutes and there really is nothing but that they are friends, I know some will say "But at least now they were together for the mission and would have a great development "... well accompany me to the next volume.
Lancaster on the Vol 4
This being honest is a regular volume but the development Ruby had was very little ... in general Ruby in the first chapter was more joking with the Team RJNR and that's fine but the moments in which we should take advantage in developing Ruby as character were wasted ... but that's not the issue.
Was there Lancaster development?
Tumblr media
Well ... there was really almost no development between them, in the first Volumes they were friends and here they have interactions in the same way in general.
In chapter 2 they have a normal talk of 1 minute a typical talk Ruby-Jaune
Now with what we saw in the first 3 volumes. Where do they get that Ruby could fall in love with Weiss? if she did not even have the need to "be connected to him" in fact as I mentioned they have almost no time on screen
Tumblr media
I think the most important was when Ruby looks at Jaune suffering from what happened to Pyrrha ... in that same chapter Ruby had nightmares about what happened with Penny and Pyrrha, for some reason Jaune had more prominence in this than Ruby. ..but in the same way none really interact.
Tumblr media
In Chapter 8 we have the scene of the  where Jaune is again the main character for some reason and again (almost nothing of Jaune and Ruby interactions to be highlighted)
The scene of Ruby watching Jaune suffering the death of Pyrrha was used to develop his characters separately not for "romance" or to bring them closer ... because again (they are already friends)
Tumblr media
Chapter 10: This is the biggest interaction between Jaune and Ruby before Nora and Ren take center stage, he talks about his leadership qualities, that she does not give up ... he tells her exactly what Ruby needed to hear. ..is the biggest Lancaster interaction of Vol 4 (good advice and support)
Jaune literally gives back the advice that Ruby gave him in Vol 1 and then they return to normal
Tumblr media
Literally after all the Renora arc... the final and most significant scene of Ruby in that Volume was writing the letter, while Jaune met with his teammates.
Tumblr media
Amount of Interaction? 6 minutes in total, there is really very little Lancaster even in the Vol with more "Lancaster" ... the situation gets worse in Vol 5.
The end of the Lancaster
Well if the Vol 4 Ruby did not have "great prominence" in this Volume did not favor his character and Lancaster least since the minimal interaction of Ruby with Jaune was in a group moment with Oscar.
Something you will notice, is that the interactions of Jaune and Ruby do not change in nature (they remain the same)
Chapter 4 Vol 5
Tumblr media
The next scene does not even interact but it was when she thought that Cinder was going to kill another of his friends as with Pyrrha (activates his silver eyes and then Emerald knocks her out)
Tumblr media
But when Ruby gets up, the first thing she did is go to Weiss ... she forgot everything to go with her partner
Tumblr media
Then Ruby gave us an involuntary comedy scene where she makes Jaune withdraw her hands and does not touch Weiss ... which was very funny (almost like ... "save her but do not touch her")
The same argument that with the Jaune x Weiss is used against the Lancaster Why the Staff did not use this opportunity to develop them both or give them a moment? ... the answer is simple (they never had that intention)
Tumblr media
As with the Rosagaden ... the Lancaster was ignored and the whole meaning of that scene was between Weiss and Ruby
Tumblr media
Then we have this beautiful scene where Weiss gives a beautiful look to Ruby again this could be with Jaune...(but they did not)
I'm also tired of telling you this (Weiss from Vol 1-3 is different from the Weis Vol4-6) especially his dynamic with Ruby and after this experience where she almost died ... made her more "close" to Ruby
Tumblr media
Lancaster in the Vol 6
Being honest here there was a great development with Ruby and in this it was definitely the Whiterose Vol, since even in the opening they put it
Again this is development of its dynamics, due to what happened at the end of Vol 5 (it is called development)
Tumblr media
If we compare it with Jaune we will see how there is no point of comparison in both dynamics (the opening is very clear)
Tumblr media
But what about the Lancaster?
Well in chapter 1 there is a 1 minute scene where both leaders promise to meet was simple but great scene.
Tumblr media
Then there is the scene of Chapter 7 where they meet both fulfilling their promise, again good scene.
Did a romance develop? Did the Staff give the ship time on screen?
I do not understand the need for this fandom to criticize every thing in RWBY but in a silly way that does not make sense ... if you're going to criticize the show (at least do it right)
Tumblr media
The scene of chapter 8 where Ruby reprimands Jaune to release Oscar
Tumblr media
Again the approach that the White Rose received in this Volume was incredible and I can point it out ... but I will only conclude that each volume Weiss and Ruby become more "close" more "affectionate" really it is obvious who is the most special person in Ruby life.
Tumblr media
The Staff do not hesitate to point out how the connection of Ruby and Weiss increases each volume in addition to making evident the situations "shipping" between both.
The closest person to Weiss is Ruby and all the events of Vol 6 will have positive consequences in their dynamics (as happened at the end of Vol 5)
Tumblr media
Returning to the Lancaster ... after that, they do not have important interactions or anything like that and in fact I would like to point out one of Ruby memories to activate the silver eyes ... that was Jaune with Pyrrha, which is connected to the Vol 4 episode 2, where she watches Jaune suffer for Pyrrha. I love that the Staff used this fragment to show us that Ruby also saw the connection of Pyrrha and Jaune.
I'm not being favoritist or anything, but if the show had given it a more prominent focus in this volume and of course its dynamics would change (because again ... it's still the same) it would give more possibilities ... but there really is not nothing but a nice friendship but no potential for anything else.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
You can really notice that the Staff does not join them as a couple and in fact they do not even have many moments on screen as many people think only 20 minutes of interaction in Six Volumen at the most, the fact that in any scene there is something "Romantic".
So seeing all the evidence, the moments, the development of Ruby and Jaune can be honestly concluded that there is no future in the romantic field, they are literally perfect friends and it is a great achievement to have such a consistent narrative in that area, besides that in none of the manga even takes that ship seriously.
Tumblr media
It was a very interesting review and at the time of realizing it made me realize why I only shipped Ruby with Weiss ... I hope you liked it, until next time
