I know I JUST changed my theme yesterday but this one is even better so like. Bleez hours ig 😈
#I LOVE HER-#anyways this comic actually does her GOOD (for like 1 issue) and so im just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#blah#im literally consumed with feels for/abt her today omg#literally plotted out a 6 issue mini for her during econ today (featuring simon and guy ofc)#where she defeats (not kills!!! i have a creative solution!) Atrocitus and kills basically all the remaining RLs (not dexstarr though)#and kind of goes solo with it as a different kind of RL#which could ofc expand into a 12 issus limited series bc i leave the strand of some missing red rings going (that she has to track down)#and honestly id have ideas for some issues from an ongoing too (most crossovers)#like for example bc my redesign of her kind of has hawkgirl vibes she should get to team up w kendra (in a 2parter w p1 called two birds...?#and p2 as one stone!) and then OFC some supergirl stuff bc of them being friends during the red daughter arc AND smth with yrra as well#bc that was literally the only good bleez moment before the writer change in nu52 rls#and also they would have SO much to talk abt re: anger and loss of autonomy#and then ofc mandatory crossover with my green lantern book#: )))))))))))))) feeling happy thinking abt the comics i would write if dc hired me#im sooooooooo tenpted to try and draw covers for this now#it would have to be for the later issues though bc the issue 1 cover would be kind of boring tbh#bc shes still in her old suit for continuitys sake and the plot would make it look similar to some shitty rl covers honestly#BUT THATS HOW I WOULD GET THEM. i trick the dudebros so they think its only hot alien lady stuff but then they look inside and bam!#increased agency for female characters!!!!! and redesigns!!!!! and friendship!!!! but also ANGER!!!!!!! and JUSTICE!!!#i just 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍#thinking abt comics is sooooooooo fun mwah i love it

Sun 31 Jan ‘21
Happy Walls Dayyy!!!!!! Today was the first anniversary of our #1 fave debut album of 2020, and we all celebrated, Louis included! Last but best thing first: WE GOT A DEMO!! Louis ended the day by publishing a dreamy clip of a demo of the title song ‘Walls’. His clear voice croons over beautiful sliding electric guitars and background reverberance- if that’s his FIRST draft then he is, as we knew, a GENIUS! AND, the King Himself came on twitter to interact with his “loyal” (his words) subjects (that’s us!). He popped up at first to say that his tour, when it comes around, will be “fucking unbelievable...this is our day!”, and talked about his favorite part of the last year (“the two shows I played”), what he noticed most when performing solo the first times (“the space on stage” ughhhh all the tears), what he was looking forward to after COVID (“everything”) and getting through these times- “remember that everything is going to be better when normality sets back in.” He also explained that while he was gonna put out merch today, he “didn’t want to market the day”, but rather make it “a celebration just for us”. But, uh, the merch will be coming eventually! He then replied that there were “too many greedy fuckers out there” who try turn celebratory events into a “cash grab” (to quote the fan), and harries then got mad at that because THEY were like this must be about Harry (lol uhhhh) and assumed he was shading him and Jeff rather than, I don’t know, his OWN FORMER LABEL?? Cool cool cool, but it’s still Harry’s moth on Spotify, so cope. He told us that his proudest moment on the album was recording the strings for the Walls the Single, that he wouldn’t have approached the process differently because he’s still really proud of the album, that he was most looking forward to us hearing KMM or Walls, that Doncaster is his fav place (to no one’s surprise lmao), and, asked what song he likes to rock out to off HIS ALBUM was like oh hey have I got a rec for you: “Maybe Tomorrow” by the Stereophonics. It goes, “think I'll walk me outside and buy a rainbow smile, but be free” and “maybe tomorrow I’ll find my way home” (huh is there something happening tomorrow that could be linked to... OH. Right. Huh. Well all that is just a coincidence I’m sure, it’s not like Louis ever said he likes to rec songs because he wants us to read into the lyrics or anything... oh wait.)
LTHQ did a insta quiz over on their stories (I only got two questions wrong!) and they did the promised virtual listening party and tweeted along to each song and retweeted fans’ reactions (and all the usernames, larries everywhere, we SEE YOU). Friends of Louis joined in the celebration- Only The Poets, Ashton Irwin of 5SoS fame, Helene Hornyck (“all the love,” she said!), Isaac Anderson and more, and All On The Board made one of their lovely Frankenstein poems which mashing up a bunch of LT1 songs, but in keeping with the theme of the day (and COVID I GUESS) did it as fanart rather than the usual in person board. And all of that was the BORING part of the day, can you BELIEVE?? The FUN part was the Walls Fanart that was chosen to be the new Spotify cards on the official Walls album. As in, they are up right now if you want to go check them out, but I’m gonna tell you straight up: they’re half Harry tats! The Defenseless card, especially, as it is just straight up fanart of Harry’s moth tattoo, especially fun when he had JUST got us talking about its Papillion origin with his finsta! The artist had been worried that Louis would be mad at them for submitting ‘Larry art’, and was overjoyed to learn that, uh... apparently, he was NOT. That was not all! The ‘Too Young’ art card is H’s rose tattoo, ‘Habit’ and ‘Fearless’ were both different variations of H’s anatomical heart tat (the ‘Habit’ one even included the word kind :{) ), and the We Made It rainbow wheel did, in fact, make it to Spotify, just like we thought! “Perfect Now” was Louis standing under a rainbow spotlight—they made that one black and white for spotify but the artist shared the original version. Harries were beside themselves, and tagged Jeff (Azoff), Ben Winston, and Gemma Styles (what?), demanding that they make Louis take the art down because it was clearly Harry art, which 1.) how much more blatant can you be if even ANTIS are noticing and 2.) what sort of control do they think Jeff, Ben, and Gemma have over Louis seeing as, uh, none of them currently work for him??? Weird, are they thinking there might be some kind of link... between Harry and his team and Louis... tell me more antis, truly, I’m fascinated!
One would think that’s more than enough for one day but WAIT THERE’S MORE Zayn is in EXCELLENT quirky Zayn form having fun with his own merch—he posted a gremlin (from the old RL Stine movie ‘Gremlins’) in a NIL beanie captioned “one size fits all humanoid shaped heads” late last night, haaaaa. Yes, I agree! The red stitching really makes the gremlin’s red eyes pop, and his fangs have never looked this good! And the question arose, is Harry’s finsta actually just his side account for following nothing but gay meme accounts? Evidence—the discovery of a second follow, of the openlygayanimals account-- would suggest yes! Well that’s valid, imagine having to not only navigate the internet AS HARRY but also without funny memes of your choice, that’s no life to lead. And Niall complained on twitter that people didn’t understand his sense of humor because SARCASM! He also tweeted about golf, which I’m sure was cool for people who understand it.

Ideal RHATO
Okay, so I’ve done some thinking. While Red Hood and the Outlaws was an interesting concept; give Jason friends and a team of his own, get him out of the Batfam Shadow, it’s been bogged down by L*bdell spotty writing and questionable Editorial decisions. So I’ve taken the time to think of what I would personally want the Outlaws to be.
First of all, I don’t believe that Jason would be better of if he remained solo. While he does deserve a good solo run other than UtH, the idea of permanently sequestering from creating meaningful, recurring relationships with other heroes is just repulsive to me. He should be allowed to have friends and people to talk to outside of the Batfamily guys, there’s only so many adventures he can have by himself before they all start sounding the same. You could even have him gaining friends as part of his character development.
Okay! So let’s begin
In my version, the Outlaws would be a more obvious antihero team. They take cases by those who feel that regular heroes can’t help them, that they won’t go far enough to achieve justice. The Outlaws won’t kill often, but it would usually be awful criminals like drug dealers, traffickers or those in charge, but if they don’t kill, they won’t be above dissing out harsh, lasting punishments to those who cross them. There could be the possibility of them being a team looking for redemption, but I’ve never really thought about them going in that direction.
Btw: This will be a hard reboot, everything from New52 to Rebirth regarding RHATO will be completely retconned, because Lobdell wrote almost all of them and despite what people want to believe most of it is bad save for some barely passable moments
Outlaw Members
Jason Todd
Tumblr media
Can’t have the Outlaws without their infamous leader. Like I said above, I believe that having his own team can be a good thing for Jason, he can establish a history disconnected from his history with Bruce and actually start to move on. I’d imagine him being a reluctant leader, preferring to work alone but admitting that having people to rely on has made his mission a lot easier. He’s a very driven and calculated person, and after reading Arkham Knight Genesis, I have no doubt in his leadership skills and his ability to turn a ragtag group of antiheroes into a team to be reckoned with.
Idk if I’d keep his All-Caste stuff. I know that it was probably created to give his backstory something that stands out, since he’s the third Batfam member to have the League of Assassins in his backstory and isn’t the only one that’s died before, but he barely uses the All-blades or brings up the All-Caste to the point were you can omit it and don’t really have to do that much to replace it. At this point, I’d accept Talia making him train with Brother Blood over the All-Caste.
I’d probably say that the Lazurus pit Talia used to bring him back was kinda special, giving him a minor healing factor and increasing his strength, idk, something small.
Eddie Bloomberg
Tumblr media
(I hate Tom King and this dialogue too but I wanted a recent image of him)
Did you know that unlike Roy Harper, Eddie was actually Jason’s best friend pre-reboot? Most people don’t because DC doesn’t care about using pre-established canon or developing its less popular heroes! 🙃
Okay, I used to be a huge fan of Jason and Roy’s friendship in New52 RHATO, but then I learned that Roy was originally Dick’s friends, that his personality was dumbed down for New52, Roy actually hates mercenaries and would never become one, they only used Roy because he was more popular and that most Titan/Roy friends actually hate his New52 counterpart and friendship with Jason. While I believe that Roy and be both friendship with Dick AND Jason (but in different ways. Dick is more of a close friend while he and Jason should have a more big brother kind of relationship), I have to admit that DC dropped the ball here, and it would be easier to just scrap everything instead of trying to make it work.
Eddie’s personality is actually quite similar to New52 Roy’s, and he and Jason already have unexplored history, so switching Roy with him won’t mess anything too much.
And now, I hear you ask “Ani, what about the Outlaw’s being an antihero group? Wouldn’t that make Eddie stand out?”, and I will reply “Don’t worry, I have a plan!”
Back when Eddie first got his powers, Neron, the king of hell at the time (?) wanted Eddie to be his protege, but Eddie refuses. But what if Neron was more forceful? Eddie could be offered, now powerless again because of the events of TT (but his death is retconned to just getting badly injured), to become Neron’s protege once again. With nothing left to lose (his relationship with Blue Devil is still in the fritz, Teen Titans no longer seem to give a damn and Rose & Jaime is still off doing their own things), he takes it. I guess he’s probably look different with more of Neron’s power coursing through his veins, but the point is that Outlaws become a “Fall from grace” for him. He’s trying to still be a hero, but as Neron’s influence continues to grow, his ability to tell right from wrong gets more and more clouded.
He’s the one to approach Jason with the idea of being a team, wanting to relive the “Good Ol’ Days” when they were younger and less bogged down with personal trauma. While Jason is reluctant, he admits that since being self-exiled from the Batfamily that it’s been kinda lonely, so he agrees, but only short-term. Eddie then segways into the next member of their burgeoning group–
Rose Wilson
Tumblr media
While pre-reboot, Rose and Jason did not have the friendliest interactions, with her holding a blade to her throat while his brothers threatened him with a crime he never committed. Post-reboot, he and Rose seem to have a more “friendlier” relationship, but the Wilson family have been rebooted at least theee times in both New52 and Rebirth, so who knows if they even still know each other now,
Rose and Eddie were very close friends in Teen Titans, and I think that getting Rose away from the madness of her family and father could be good for her character.
Eddie manages to convince her to join the “Outlaws”, but like Jason, she goes into it thinking that it’ll be a one-time thing. She cares a lot about Eddie, and sticks with the team to make sure that he’s doing alright. She probably could have an arc were Nightwing confronts her on her work in the Outlaws (since the other heroes see them as white-hat mercenaries) since he mentored her in being a hero, so it could be about dealing with what other people expect of her.
Essence
Tumblr media
While L*bdell might be basically a shit writer, he does create interesting concepts. With a better writer, Essence could be a very interesting character, watching from the shadows and judging whether or not the Outlaws are actually “good” people, before she eventually starts taking a more active role in helping them punish criminals.
While she would at first interact solely with Jason, asking him questions about his deeds and ordering him in what direction she feels is best, she would eventually introduce herself to the rest of the group. I think she’d get along best with Komand’r, while the others might test her absolutism, Black-And-White morality a bit.
Rankorr (Jack Moore)
Tumblr media
I know that there’s some people who want Guy Gardner to be Jason’s lantern, but what about a lantern who is close to Jason in age and actually fits the Outlaw theme?
Jack Moore is a Red Lantern, not only a Red Lantern, but the first human lantern who is also the first Red Lantern to be capable of creating constructs. He struggles with his rage, and deep down, he wants to enjoy a normal life on earth.
Maybe after Red Lantern (retconning Lobo or if not, he’s brought back using Red Lantern Blood Magic), he decides that the RL’s are a bit too cult-like for him and tries to lay low on Earth, finishing his literature degree and opening up a small bookstore somewhere in London. He’s close with Guy, but still can’t/refuses to let go of his rage, so Jack is still a RL
Of course, keeping his rage at bay is hard work, and after witnessing police brutality one more time, he loses control.
The Outlaws were hired by the family of the victim to make the officers see justice, but after seeing Jack work, they realize that this might be their easiest case yet.
Afterwards, Jack tries to downplay the entire thing (before resorting to threats when the Outlaws won’t listen), but Jason eventually convinced him that his talents would be wasted just being a civilian (and that his rage will only get worse if he continues to just let it boil without an “outlet”) so he joins the team
Blackfire
Tumblr media
I’ve read Komand’r’s backstory, I know how bad it looks. However, in a medium where retcons and reimaginings are features instead of bugs (and can benefit a character’s story if done right), I really think it could be possible to make her work.
After reading New52 RHATO, I began thinking that it could be so much better if not only Eddie took Roy’s spot, but also if Komand’r took Starfire’s, since I feel like she had more potential beyond “Kori’s evil disabled sister”, “War Criminal” and “Struggling queen of Tamaran”
First, I’d change her pre-reboot backstory so instead of taking over the Gordanians, she is instead captured by them after Starfire frees her from the Psions (Komand’r still hates her sister and refuses to follow her). Through her clever mind and manipulations, she manages to earn favor with Lord Damyn, feigning romantic interest. Of course, given Komand’r’s nature, she ends up killing and replacing him, but her rule doesn’t go over well and she is again recaptured, but this time she’s brought to Earth.
Realizing that she’s now trapped on the planet whete her sister has become a successful and popular hero, Komand’r is at first angry, and then conspires to free herself and take revenge on her sister (who she still blames for everything despite that not being the case).
The Outlaws bust the alien trafficking ring, and Komand’r, seeing her chance, decides to show off and make nice with them to eventually use them for her revenge.
She finds Eddie and Rankorr easy to manipulate, but she bumps Heads with Jason whenever she tries to take his role as leader away from him and finds Rose’s mind to be “weak”. Overtime however, she bonds with Jason over feeling inferior to their siblings, realizes that her anger shares Rankorr’s intensity, and grows a genuine friendship with Rose and Eddie
Oh yeah, and maybe she tries to make things right with Kori
Artemis Grace
Tumblr media
What would the Outlaws be without the greatest Amazon to have ever lived? Nothing, that’s for sure.
While I don’t agree with Jaytemis (at least not yet), I have to admit that Jason would be a fool not to like her. She’s a cool, confident character with a lot of interesting lore behind her.
Her joining will probably be pretty close to canon. The Outlaws are tasked with going after Black Mask, and Jason decides to go undercover, as the Red Hood still has his fingers in various criminal pies. While investigating, he runs into Artemis, who is looking for the Bow of Ra, and rest is history.
I feel like she’ll get along really well with Rose and Komand’r and maybe she’ll date one. She’ll definitely view Eddie a bit dismissively, and she isn’t a huge fan of demons. Rankorr would probably come off as stuck up to her.
Bizarro
Tumblr media
Anyone who knows me will know that I’m am not a huge fan of Bizarro clones. I consider them to be an overused concept (that sometimes feels as if it relies on gene superiority, but idk if I’ll ever fully process my dislike for them), and the fact that as the time I’m writing this, there are at least four currently in continuity does not enamor me with the concept more.
However, after re-reading RHATO a few times, I’ll admit that the Outlaws’ Bizarro has grown on me. Since he already kinda has a unique name (Bizz), all I think he needs is a more visually distinct costume (doesn’t even have to directly reference Superman, but I can go 50/50 on the backwards “S”)
The Outlaws getting Bizz is exactly the same as canon. I’d imagine that he and Eddie would be as close as brothers. While Rankorr might find Bizz’s way of thinking and speaking to be annoying, I’d think that Rankorr will eventually warm up to him and probably teach him how to read and help Artemis teach him. Komand’r and Rose will probably be less receptive to him, but who knows
August Heart
Tumblr media
I’m a Godspeed fan first and human second, we’ve been knew.
In all seriousness, Godspeed is the perfect Rebirth era character for RHATO and the fact that he and Jason still haven’t met is why DC doesn’t have any rights.
Okay okay, but he’s honestly a perfect fit. Like Jason, he also kills when dealing with crimes, but he isn’t so good and knowing who’s guilty and who isn’t just yet.
This will probably be after Death of the Speedforce, with August finally making things right with Barry, but still not forgiving himself for everything that happened. Deciding to self-exile himself rather than go back to Iron Heights, August travels, trying to figure out what do to do next, trying to follow Barry’s rules (which he finds to be very wishy-washy) to the best of his ability.
Eventually, he learns that Black Hole is still running, and against his better instincts, he goes after them.
His trail of lightning destruction catches the eye of the Outlaws.
Barry, realizing that his best-friend might need someone who can actually be there all the time to help reign him in, Barry goes to the Outlaws and asks them if they can help him once they catch up to him
They do in the form of offering a spot on the team.
August is very self-assured (even if it is hiding a softer, more emotional center), but has proven to be able to work with others, so I can see the other Outlaws coming to like him. They might find him a little cocky/early to jump the gun, but still a trusted and valued member of the team.
Since every Robin has their own flash, it only makes sense to finally give Jason (and have them date) a speedster of his own, and it should be someone who fits his morals, and who else could Then the speedster fans literally call “The Red Hood of the Flashfam”?
Final Thoughts
Other possible members I would consider/accept are
Eradicator Superman
Koryak
Vanessa Kapatelis/Silver Swan lll
Simon Amal (Crux)
Danny Chase
Clone!Roy Harper
Connor Hawke
Orm Marvius
Man O’ War
Lagoon Boy
Scarlet
Zachary Zatara
Thomas Merlyn
Ragman
Bleez
Walter West
Even with a cast as sizable as the one I just listed, with a good enough writer, there could still a few minor side characters. I would personally want the them to be
Scarlet: Jason’s former sidekick. She could be either a civilian who he talks to get experience some normalcy or the leader of her own version of the Outlaws made of up the Generation Outlaws we meet in RHATO #37-40. Either way, it could contrast with Bruce and the way he (mis)treats his own sidekicks and family
Zachary Zatara: Eddie’s old friend who helped him get his devil powers. Zachary would definitely be worried over Eddie once again accepting Neron’s power and will want to try to help. Whether he suceeds or not will depend if the writers want to go in that direction
Isabel Ardila: She’s a nothing character, but there’s a small chance that with a better writer, she might gain an interesting personality or an actual purpose in RHATO
Talia Al Ghul: before the reboot, Talia was Jason’s mentor figure and even gave him a cool dagger. It would be so cool if we can bring that back and erase Morrison’s problematic charactization of her. Maybe the dagger she gives Jason could be an All-Blade or smth. They’d definitely take a few cases from her however
Batfam, Titans and respective groups: it would have to happen eventually. It could lead to some interesting, angst filled conversations. And who knows, maybe they’ll actually make progress with their issues
But this post has gone on long enough. I just really wanted to talk a bit about my ideal Outlaws team that I will never see anywhere except for my dreams because mass media hates me and DC still thinks that Lobdell deserves to write Jason 😔😭

fave song from each queen album?
Bless you, you amazing human.
Queen - Keep Yourself Alive - That drum solo slays me every time. It’s so warm and huggy.
Tumblr media
Queen II - Seven Seas of Rhye - I find the instrumentation so absolutely fascinating and I can listen to it over and over again, just picking out different instruments and tiny things that I love.
Sheer Heart Attack - Killer Queen - This is my favorite song of all time. It has the energy that I want to possess and I think the tune just GOES so perfectly with the words and I just love love love everything about it UGH
Tumblr media
A Night at the Opera - Three way tie between Bohemian Rhapsody, ‘39, and You’re My Best Friend? - I really tried to pick one, but Bohemian Rhapsody NEVER gets old and I cannot put in words what makes everyone love it so much, ‘39 has a story and an aesthetic that only Brian could make, and You’re My Best Friend is going to be my wedding song because it is all I want in life.
Tumblr media
A Day at the Races - Somebody to Love - This is so freaking obvious and I apologize, but has there ever been a song more fun to sing to? Also, I relate? How is this a song? How does a song give me a warm, fuzzy, comfy feeling? I don’t understand.
Tumblr media
News of the World - Who Needs You - The ultimate sass song with a funky rhythm?
Jazz - In Only Seven Days - Almost picked Dont Stop Me or Bycicle Race, but this one just pulls out on top. I love the tune, it’s so beautiful, and going through the week is so fun. Idk.
The Game - Dragon Attack - Almost picked Rock It for Rogers OHHHS, but I am OBSESSED with 16 beats and the rolling rhythm. This is the one song that I just love the guitar and drums together and also I can vividly remember hearing this live and it literally had my mouth dropped open.
Tumblr media
Hot Space - Calling All Girls - I’m not sure why I love this song so much, but I love its simplicity and it is so underrated.
Tumblr media
The Works - Radio Gaga - I freaking love love love this song. Again with that steady roll rhythm that I love so much, but this one’s chords really hit me in just the right stop and it also made me cry live.
Tumblr media
A Kind of Magic - A Kind of Magic (Demo) - I really love the stripper back version of this song, and again Roger’s simple tunes and lyrics make an utterly flawless song with such a beautiful image.
Tumblr media
The Miracle - Rain Must Fall - In case you haven’t noticed, I love drums and funky rhythms. I love the energy Freddie gave this song and I almost kind of feel like the song was written for me?
Innuendo - These are the Days of Our Lives - How in the heck did Roger write a song that drips of nostalgia? I had never heard this song before I got into Queen and every time I hear it, I think about my childhood to the point that I can’t let myself listen to it at night because it will put me into a lonely depression.
Tumblr media
Made in Heaven - Let Me Live - This one HURTS. I feel for ya Freddie. A gospel choir is flawless for this song, and I just love hearing Roger and Brian’s voices.

Um.. you already had a lot of questions about Dick, but I have a different issue with him and his fandom/ canon portrayal that I want to know what you think about, which is Dick being a cop. I know it's romanticized a lot, to some he was being the good cop, to me personally I feel like Dixon was a conservative old man who thought jobs in police force or army was masculine n respected. But when fandom also loves poc Dick, wouldn't it be ooc for him? If not that, a 9-to-5 job, no freedom should be
frankly, anon, my inbox has been a dick grayson party over the last couple of days, and i have loved every second of it.
a few caveats before i answer your question: 1) my reading of 90s nightwing is a bit patchy, so i might be missing important details, 2) i’ve grown up (with a fair bit of privilege) in a place and culture where discrimination and class divides look a bit different from the usa. i’ve seen/heard/read enough to understand what you mean, but if i’m oblivious to certain nuances, this is probably why. that’s not an excuse for if i say something wrong/ignorant; feel free to call me out on that.
work-wise, dick’s kind of been all over the place; he’s been everything from a bartender to a fitness trainer to a museum curator. from what i’ve read, most of dick’s choices in his education and career have been secondary to, or in service of, his vigilante alter-ego. it doesn’t seem to me that any of his rl jobs were written in to emphasise his masculinity or respectability in society, but i can’t deny that this was present on an unconscious level. and, correct me if i’m wrong, while dixon’s run had him become a police officer, it was when devin grayson took over that his romani heritage became canon.
on a watsonian level, i can see why this would be in-character for dick: he’s starting out as a solo hero, wanting to be to bludhaven what batman is to gotham, but better. he correctly identifies the systemic rot that allows crime and depravity to fester in bludhaven, no matter how many “bad guys” nightwing trusses up during patrol. he’s seen jim gordon care and do good for his city even while waist-deep in corruption. he’s spent a good chunk of his formative years as a vigilante hero among other vigilantes, in a universe where individuals can literally save the entire world. besides, he’s just the kind of person who would put as much as he possibly can on his plate, constantly trying to elevate and reinvent his own standards. so: in an act of cheery, youthful hubris, i can absolutely see him insinuating himself into the bludhaven police department, trying to battle its evils from both inside and outside the system. if anything, it seems to me, the fractious history between law enforcement and people of colour and minorities and memories of his own family’s experiences would motivate him further.
tl;dr: at this point in dick grayson’s life and nightwing’s career, it doesn’t seem to me like an ooc thing for him to do.
early successes imbue him with confidence, make him reckless. he makes some valuable allies, but also plenty of enemies. he stretches himself thin with both his day job and night job, to the point where he gets sloppy. and finally it all ends not merely in failure, but outright catastrophe. far from working out, his stint as a cop is a very humbling moment for dick, and one i think that not only reveals the limits of what he can realistically achieve, but also just how deep systemic injustice goes.
(there’s also a thorny but interesting ethical question re: a vigilante working as a police officer, when, as nightwing, he has information and resources that he accessed as a cop, but operates under none of the rules that regulate cops. this issue has come up again very recently, when after the ric grayson fiasco, a bunch of law enforcement officials took up the nightwing identity to dispense vigilante justice. there’s been no attempt to delve into this issue in the current run, and i don’t remember dick really wrestling with this in the 90s/’00s run either.)
i do think fandom tends to romanticise that part of dick’s life, but of all of dick’s various jobs, it was probably the one that crossed over the most with his life as nightwing. even if the comics were mostly uncritical of the implications of dick grayson working as a police officer, i think the experience was important and transformative for him, and could be talked about with a great deal more nuance.

Dear You,
Well since I can’t really tell you this I thought this would help. You will probably never see this, but at least I have somewhere to just decompress and figure out what’s going on in my brain.
Man would have thought a last minute change of heart would lead me to this. To you. Thinking about it. It is crazy. I never wear kandi to a show, but for some reason I did for this show and guess what? I gave it to you. Man I hope you keep it safe. Sorry it was a little on the girly side.
But I ran into you at the same spot and then we just kind of clicked which was cool. Not only that you connected with my friends. To the point they actually are shipping for us to become something. I mean I kind of am too, but I don’t want to scare you away. LOL.
That night we exchange numbers and I honestly didn’t think much of it. Then a week before EDCO you messaged me. Again, I didn’t think too much of it and in a sense you were making it a thing to make sure FRIEND was added. We semi tried to meet up but we didn’t which actually made me sad cause I wanted to see you and also the fact we just vibe really well.
But then I asked if you were going to RL and you ended up deciding to go last minute. That was a semi good time because well you vibed and then left. I actually let my thoughts get the best of me because I swore you were with another girl. But then that night you texted me telling me you wish you were able to dance with me more.
I remember being super weird in asking for a hang out just because I wasn’t trying to cause drama if there was someone. And I heard from you on Thanksgiving. That night I was a little tipsy, but I also didn’t expect much. But that night was the start of maybe something? We got to know each other better and just catch up on different things. It was kind of like when I was in high school and things were just a little more wholesome? It was when we ran into your friend is when I was like okay maybeee something could be a thing. You were leaning on me and just chilling next to me. I kind of wished you just put your arm around me because it probably looked a little less weird. But I really liked that. That night we hugged and it just felt pretty right. We talked about going to tng.
So I am pretty sure you had told me that you were going with friends to tng. But to find out you told people I invited you. So you came looking right and for me. It was nice seeing you cause your face kind of lit up like you thought I was cute? It was a nice look. At first, I wasn’t sure if you were feeling me, but three went bad influence me and got drinks for us. I really liked the tease of “it’s still early”. I’m not sure what it was that got us to dance with each other but that was nice. You just vibed and had fun. I guess now looking at it. You did peep me in a few of your videos that you posted. I really liked one of them too. When you put your arm around me it was nice. For a little it felt like you were “claiming” me. It kind of makes me wonder if you were doing it because you are actually interested in me or if it was just the alcohol?  I wonder what your friend and his girlfriend think of me. Is he like yeah nah. Or is he shipping?
Now, I’m just waiting for you to message me because well NYE we are going to be hanging. I hope that goes through. If not then I guess it will be my solo show But I am really hoping we keep in contact cause I wouldn’t mind spending it with you. Dang boy.
You are slick almost everything I could want for now. I made a list and you are checking all the boxes. Please reheal your heart so that you can be open to take mine.

October 26th-November 1st, 2019 Creator Babble Archive
The archive for the Creator Babble chat that occurred from October 26th, 2019 to November 1st, 2019.  The chat focused on the following question:
Describe your process for world-building.  How do you go about it both outside and inside the story?
The Q - working on WAYFINDERS
Oooooh, last time it was @Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS 's time to shine, but this time it's me! I LOVE world building. Who doesn't, amirite? For me, there are a few different ways to go about world building, depending on what I need the world for. For general solo-projects, it usually starts with a QUESTION ("What if the world was turned on its side?") - and then we build from there. WAYFINDERS (working title) started as a D&D campaign. I knew I wanted 1) lots of islands and 2) weird magic effects on the islands. That was it. Luckily I had the absolute luxury of PLAYERS to help shape the world: - one wanted to be a trickery cleric, so I created a pantheon of gods - one wanted a warlock of the Great Old One, so I [spoilers] and created an eldritch-type patron - one wanted to be a frankenstein's monster-type girl, created in a lab, so I stared into nothing for a few days and then integrated laboratories and science projects - they all wanted to be casters, so I made magic an important, integral part of the world and plot (and I made them a barbarian friend so they wouldn't, you know, die immediately) From there, the ball rolls: Why would there be labs creating people? Answer: there was recently a war and wars need soldiers. How do people worship the pantheon of gods? How long has the war been going on? What does the Great Old One-patron have to do with anything? You answer one question and new questions arise. Then you answer those. Suddenly, you have a rich world with countries, trade routes, a magic system, a way to cheat the magic system, politics, architectural styles, divine intrigue, etc. etc. etc. ... Then you make a comic out of it.
Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS
To add design wise to world building! Since there is 2 countries, I wanted each country to have their own feel, their own design, in buildings and furniture so unconscious we can show what islands belongs to what territory because of that! So especially, how would the countries build kitchens, what is a living space like, for both poor and rich, colors used, material used. So one country is Norse viking inspired, the other more Mediterranean and Persian
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Seconding the questioning method for sure. I didn’t start from a question about the world, moreso “What would I like to draw for years?” but the questions came from that. Why is the world this way? Was it always like that? What changed to make it that way? Was it someone’s fault or was it random/accidental? What does everyone think about the state of the world? Are there factions that have arisen from these feelings? From that you can already create so many things: a mood, a lore, a main character, a societal tone, and a conflict. It’s a huge help for starting a basic world.
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Then I just... went to Pinterest Once I 'solved' the main aspects of the world, I went image-searching for inspiration. Motifs, symbols, textures, color schemes, clothing, food, architecture... Find things that exist in our world, bring them into yours, meld them as you see fit. Comic work is such a steady combination of words influencing images, and images influencing words, and your worldbuilding should be the same way. Let them work together!
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
But that's outside the story - inside the story, I still have lots of opportunity to worldbuild, and I'm still asking questions and solving problems throughout the process. Just from the questioning method, I've already created a lot of secondary conflicts that didn't exist when I started. Secondary conflicts are great at fleshing out a world. If you have an army/military as part of your world, who do they fight? If you have some sort of 'blight' or ailment common to your world, what effect does it have on society? If you have a rigid, unbending social structure, who/what is keeping it that way, and at what cost? If you work broadly enough in the beginning, you can keep your world open to really interesting changes down the line.(edited)
IzzyNinjaMaster
For Unlikely Heroes, I knew I wanted my world to be expansive and to seem like it was never ending, which can be a difficult task. I still find myself adding more and more things everyday. Such as: how does the magic work in the world? What gods do everyone worship? Are there any major conflicts in the land? Who is the nobility in charge of the land? What languages are spoken? Not to be spoilery but I've even developed drugs that are used and people's reaction to it in different areas in the world.
Right now I've really been focusing on developing my pantheon and the gods in it. I want the worship of the gods to feel like an actual religion. So to do that, I've been developing small stories of the gods and how they created the world and it's people. It's been super fun to do actually, and I know it will be helpful in the long run of the story.
Cronaj
Despite writing fantasy, I actually depend on the real world a lot for inspiration. This isn't just for my comic, but for pretty much all of my fantasy stories. You could consider it a part of my style. With that in mind, the setting of my comic was developed by studying history and many cultures to begin the process of world-building. I depend a great deal on thinking about the little things in life that make us tick. How we live day to day, what we eat, wear, sing, how we make money, what money is used for, what our beauty standards are like, the importance of family and friends and community as a whole. These are the things that make up our cultures, and obviously these things are different for every culture. Understanding that the world is not separate from culture, and vice versa, is also important. They effect each other. Why does one culture eat so much fish? Because they live near an ocean. Well, why do they live there? Because they believe that the ocean is a sacred place. Why do they believe that? Because their ancestors survived persecution by sailing across the ocean, and the story goes on. Nothing in the world of my comic is random. There is always a reason, a connection to some other thing in the world. In some cases, I created a character first, and then based on their personality, I put them in a particular setting or background. In other cases, a character needed to fulfill a specific purpose in the world, so I created them based on a setting or circumstance and developed them later. Obviously, it took a lot of time, but eventually, the gaps kind of fill in themselves. I wish I could be more insightful about how I created the maps, or the languages, or the poetry, stories, and songs, or the religions and ceremonies, but again, it just took a lot of research into real-world histories and culture, and some time to think.
AntiBunny
I use a fairly similar world to ours, aside from a few changes in history. So that said the city in which most of the story takes place is largely where world building happens. I have plenty of files for only my use mapping it out, and its history. That said I only reveal bits when they're significant. Exposition really should only happen when it's necessary to share information that a character wouldn't know. I let readers put together the bits of the world for themselves.
One of the biggest moments of worldbuilding in AntiBunny http://antibunny.net/ happened at the end of chapter 5, which revealed something no one knew, that revealed the origin of the lagosapiens.

For HoK, writing what I know plays a big part. I grew up in both urban and rural Korea. A lot of things that are taken for granted in today's society, both in the US and in Korea (though especially in the US for obvious reasons), were quite different back then. That experience, strengthened with my relationships with my elders who grew up during even older times, informs how I write a fantasy society inspired by Old Korea. One thing that I really want to see more often in media is REAL cultural differences, deeper than the surface. (example: Avatar: the Last Airbender was very American in how the characters thought and behaved, despite the Asian aesthetics. That was fine for that show, but it did leave me wishing there was a show that took it several steps further with the culture.) I can understand why that territory isn't often explored. It's because you want to make your story accessible to your target audience. And if the culture you're depicting is confusing to your target audience (which is a very real possibility with RL cultures), so much of the story is going to be invisible and/or misunderstood to the audience. That's not a good thing! I find myself often struggling to strike a balance between accessibility and authenticity. You'd think I have it easy, with a main character who's from the US. When the MC is confused about something, it's not too hard to convey to the readers that there's a cultural difference issue at hand. But when the MC doesn't even realize he's misunderstood something (THIS HAPPENS A LOT IRL when different cultures mingle), the readers might not realize it either... Thus my struggle. (edited)

Oh and @LadyLazuli (Phantomarine) "What would I like to draw for years and years?" is not only a valid question, but also SMART.
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Right?? I'm also lucky that my interests have stayed pretty consistent through the years. I feel terrible for people who get exhausted by their comics, and feel the need to switch to something else - either because they've developed new styles/interests, or because they didn't think the initial idea through It happens to the best of them, though!(edited)

I just include things I think would be cool into my world. I really like realism in worldbuilding so I model a lot after real history. Being in school for ecology helps with designing natural elements too
MJ Massey
I typically start with one singular concept that the main story will revolve around and then work outward from there. For example, Black Ball started with the idea of doing a fantasy concept in a historical setting that wasn't the typical "ye olden times". So I started with "magic in the 1920s" and what that would look like, and started riffing on two major concepts--what happens when magic was an everyday commodity and then suddenly isn't, and having two conflicting ideologies clashing against each other (Practical Sciences vs Arcane Sciences, basically science vs magic)
and I kept building out from there. How would a world where magic could take care of a lot of manual tasks be affected by it? What would society look like? Why are people Practicals over Arcanists, or vice versa? Would there be the same mass immigration to the US? What do race relations look like in this different timeline? And so on and so forth. Needing to answer these questions necessitates building out the world more.
Not all of it will be directly addressed by the story since it's more of a limited scope, but that's kind of the point -- Emily can't affect major change in her world, but she can try and solve her sister's murder case
sssfrs
Is your story Black Ball related to the line of packet ships of the same name?
MJ Massey
no I was not aware there were ships
Black Ball is taken from the saying "behind the eight ball", a 1920s slang meaning to be in a difficult spot or struggle (the 8 ball is black in billards)(edited)
and also being "black balled"
sssfrs
Oh interesting
There was also a Black Ball line of packet ships that ran between Liverpool and NYC sometime in the 19th century

ART TODAY 10.7.17: The entire TribeLA Magazine Acrostic Interview with fine-art photographer Aline Smithson
Thank you Aline for sharing your most precious and legendary photographs with us!
TribeLA Magazine Acrostic Interview with fine art photographer Aline Smithson
[hoot_dropcap]Tagline: Give yourself and your work a tagline.[/hoot_dropcap]
My glass is totally full, but I won’t say with what.
[hoot_dropcap]Rest: How do you spend your time off?[/hoot_dropcap]
In my ideal scenario, I would be relaxing in a villa near a coast in Italy. I would have a chef to make amazing pasta and I would nap and read and swim and photograph. In reality, when I’m tired, I lie on the couch, catch up on a myriad of shows, many admittedly on Bravo, while surfing Ebay for some treasure. Oddly, surfing Ebay makes me relax. A vodka tonic is close at hand, and the ubiquitous guacamole.
[hoot_dropcap]Influence: What effect do you hope to have on us?[/hoot_dropcap]
I am all about building community and supporting each other. The life of an artist is not a race—some of your peers will have more success, some less, but that coming together with a common interest makes everything richer. If I can pass on the spirit sharing information, sharing support, and showing up for each other, then I’m happy.
[hoot_dropcap]Back: If you could choose a past literary/art/music movement to be a part of, which would you choose?[/hoot_dropcap]
I have always been drawn to the Dadaist movement and the rejection of normalcy. I definitely have a rebellious spirit of pushing back on traditional paths. Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray’s influence runs deep.
[hoot_dropcap]Energy: What fires you up?[/hoot_dropcap]
I love to dance. I take hip-hop and Zumba classes as many days of the week that I can fit in. I prefer the music of hip-hop and any Michael Jackson song makes me into an immediate Soul Train dancer. I also love listening to the music of my son, RL Grime.
[hoot_dropcap]Los Angeles: Where is your favorite place in Los Angeles? Where would you take visitors? If you could defend the city in one sentence to someone who doubts it, what would you say?[/hoot_dropcap]
I grew up in Silverlake (in my day, it was all one word), so my go-to place is the Planetarium. We used to drive up to the observatory in high school, bring some cheap wine and lay on the grass under the stars imagining our futures. I always tell people that Los Angeles is the most beautiful city once the sun goes down. There is something magical about driving from downtown to the beach with the cool night air offering up possibilities. If I had to sum up Los Angeles in one sentence: It’s where Korean BBQ meets a shredded beef taco, meeting Persian rice, and a Chinese dumpling that sits atop a crispy samosa dipped in all the incredible flavors of the globe.
[hoot_dropcap]Advice: What is the best advice you’ve received? What is the best advice you can give?[/hoot_dropcap]
Take chances. Embrace fear as a friend and learn to live with it. It’s what propels you forward. Be kind. The world gets richer when you open your heart. Be grateful. Acknowledge who helps you along your journey. Give Back. Reach out and pull the person behind you into the spotlight.
[hoot_dropcap]Aura: How would you describe your energy, style, etc.?[/hoot_dropcap]
I have a lot of energy. My husband would state that I’m a tireless worker and I have to admit, it’s true. I am always multi-tasking. I am a very open person and have a curiosity about everyone and everything around me. I think that everyone has a story and everyone has value. One of my greatest joys as a mother and educator is to have those around me rise up and feel whole.
My personal and home aesthetic is more Zen—I’m drawn to clean surfaces, mid century architecture and furniture, and I always wear black. I do, however, find myself drawn to the odd and quirky, so you can find taxidermy, mannequin parts, and things that are off kilter all through my house—elegant taxidermy, mind you, not in a hoarder-cat lady way. I do have a great sense of humor.
[hoot_dropcap]Room: Where in your home do you work? If not in your home, where do you feel most compelled to create?[/hoot_dropcap]
I make almost all of my photographs close to home, with the exception of a few series. I shoot against my garage and throughout my house. I have a pink office where I surround myself with inspiration. But most of my creativity comes from inside my head, not in a room, pulled from a deep well of influences.
[hoot_dropcap]Tools: What do you prefer to work with, physically and otherwise?[/hoot_dropcap]
80% of all my photographs are made with a 1960 twin lens Rolleiflex. For a few series, I use a Hasselblad or a toy camera. I find that my Rolleiflex has a soul and also harbors magic. I still only shoot with film.
[hoot_dropcap]Indulgence: What is your favorite indulgence? Do you cook? What is your specialty meal? What is your favorite restaurant in LA where you indulge yourself?[/hoot_dropcap]
If I could eat guacamole three times a day, I would. I make excellent guac and I’m best known for my salads. My favorite restaurant is Gjelina, in Venice. I always look forward to an incredible meal there.
[hoot_dropcap]Special: Who or what holds a special place in your heart? How does this factor into your creative process?[/hoot_dropcap]
My children hold the most special place (as does my husband) in my heart. In terms of photography, my daughter has been a profound partner in my journey, allowing me to photograph her over the years and knowing instinctively what I want for the photograph. We used to have the best dog in the world—even my friends and neighbors have confirmed this—a beautiful yellow lab named Riley. When I would hang a backdrop, she would promptly go sit in the middle of it, ready to work. She passed away a couple of years ago and I still miss her every day.
[hoot_dropcap]Time: What is your all-time favorite piece of writing/art/music you’ve created?[/hoot_dropcap]
The series with my mother, Arrangement in Green and Black, has been my favorite work as a photographer. It launched my career and continues to be exhibited and published around the world for well over a decade. She would be amazed where her photographs have been featured: Russia, China, Korea, France, Spain, Poland, Germany and all over the US. As for writing, I’m most proud of the daily journal on photography, LENSCRATCH, that I founded and for the last ten years, have written about a different photographer every day.
