i watched 'mandy' because my dad said it was depraved (no longer trust him to recommend depraved things) and there was a clear line in the sand between 'this is fucking cool' and 'oh' and it was when they cut from andrea riseborough (of possessor fame, to me) laughing maniacally to nick cage tied up outside. a film has never switched up on me like that before.

So I've been watching Three Body Problem with my partner and we just got to Episode 5. It has (spoilers) a pretty gruesome scene in it from the book, very bloody. I literally didn't watch it, just listened and watched my partner's (shocked) face throughout it.
This got me thinking. Not so much about Three Body Problem, because I haven't finished it yet nor read the books so I haven't really formed any sort of opinion on the show or the overall story, but more on Benioff and Weiss.
While looking away from That Scene I was curious if it was even in the book, so I was looking that up instead of watching. It was, but sure enough, Benioff and Weiss had embellished it.
I'll discuss it in more detail beneath the cut to avoid spoilers but suffice to say this is my take away:
For Benioff and Weiss, it's always been about cruelty. The chance to show cruelty above and beyond the source material, using the source material only as a spring board to delve into horrific imagery, is literally what attracts them to the stories they choose to depict.
And I felt like I'm taking crazy pills when I pointed this out all through the Game of Thrones era, not so much no one was figuring it out but because it felt like no one in the mainstream media was talking about it. They'd get asked these deep artistic questions about a certain scene (like the quote below which has spoilers) and it would be asked completely seriously and they'd give this answer like, "Oh we didn't want to show all that gore but we had no choice."
And I'm just sitting their flabbergasted like... what the fuck are you talking about, just admit that's what you wanted to depict?? That's what gave you a boner to tell this particular story??
Let me be clear, an artist choosing to depict gore and cruelty isn't a problem. I'm not a horror fan but it's not like I think horror shouldn't exist, or gore, or horrifying scenes that shock us to our marrow. That's very much a thing art can and should do!
I just feel like I'm fucking crazy because Benioff and Weiss and the people interviewing them never seem to get that this is their story kink. They always put this like... veneer of genteel shock and respectability over their questions about the cruel and gorey scenes they depict, like it just happened that way, when it's really really clear this is the stuff they like showing the most.
Benioff and Weiss's Game of Thrones was literally more gorey, graphic, and dehumanizing in places than the actual book. Where they departed from the books was, more often than not, to make things more abjectly cruel, dehumanizing, and shocking towards the characters. That's what they like doing as creators.
So this scene in Three Body Problem...
(SPOILERS)
... Where the ship gets slashed to ribbons and little children are literally shredded apparently isn't even depicted in the book.
"“We wanted to show it, we didn’t want to evade it,” Benioff said at a roundtable earlier this month. “I think when you actually see something on a screen, it is going to be more horrific than in the book. You’re reading these descriptions, but you’re not seeing blood, you’re not seeing a bunch of kids running away, you’re not seeing children’s backpacks getting split in half.” (source)
Didn't want to evade it? The book literally doesn't show children getting shredded and you went out of your way to show us numerous scenes introducing these children just so you can lovingly show them and their world get shredded to ribbons while completely aware and confronting the full horror of their fates like...
Again, I am not trying to moralize here. There is a space for horror, there is a space for exploring horrible things happening to innocents.
But they always talk about these very deliberate depictions of abject cruelty as if it's just *shrugs* "What can ya do? It had to be done!" NO IT DIDN'T. IT'S LITERALLY NOT IN THE BOOK IN THAT WAY. JUST OWN IT. OWN YOUR ARTISTIC VISION. OWN THE FACT YOU GLORY IN MAKING SLASHER LEVELS OF GORE AND TORTURE AND DEHUMANIZATION. STOP BEING SO FUCKING GENTEEL ABOUT IT. JUST FUCKING... LEAN IN TO WHAT YOU ARE INSTEAD OF ACTING LIKE IT WASN'T THE CHANCE TO SHOW CRUELTY THAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE STORY IN THE FIRST PLACE.
And just as a lateral, US politics note, it felt like this under Trump too. I'm not saying artists depicting cruelty in an artistic work is anything like a politician with real power reveling in flexes of power channeled towards deliberate acts of fascistic cruelty.
But in both cases I felt like I was taking crazy pills because the media would just... speculate about the root desire behind such actions? Like "What could possibly be motivating these guys? Gosh, we don't know, to say what's actually happening here would be far too gauche so we'll just pretend it was an unpleasant byproduct of their TRUE goals, whatever those may be, no matter how implausible they may be."
Like: it's cruelty! The point is cruelty! Some people are just sadists! Some people get off on hurting others or in having the power to hurt others OR (and this is by far the only acceptable version of this and by the way it's completely acceptable to do this in FICTION) in creating artistic works that depict terrible cruelty and sadism.
... So anyway, I definitely went into Three Body Problem going, "Huh, I wonder why Benioff and Weiss chose THIS supremely difficult story to adapt as one of their next big projects?" And then I saw the boat getting shredded and the children they added to the loving depictions of gore and was like, "... Ah, yes. That's why."
(Edit: Just to be clear for those thinking of watching the show, it's not a gore-fest. It was easy to see this scene coming and to look away for it. There's some other moments of violence but those are also pretty easy to anticipate and look away from. This isn't a slasher horror show and it's had a lot of good points (so far). This particular scene just made me go, "Ah, there's the Benioff and Weiss I remember.")

q!BBH's Desert Lore is eerily similar to a scene in Salad Fingers Episode 10 "Birthday" ─ and other coincidences
WARNING: Salad Fingers is a gore web series. Therefore, All pictures here are going to be censored as to not havily disturb anyone. The links for the original pictures will be listed at the end for whoever wants to see them in full.
While reading this, its good to keep in mind that cc!Bad has made references to gorey underground web series before, such as "Llamas With Hats". Therefore, it wouldn't be a big stretch for him to have used Salad Fingers as inspiration for his character's lore, or as reference.
Also huge huge huge thanks to @demodraws0606 for listening to my insane thoughts and helping me w this go give them some love !!
Tumblr media
On the day 26/nov/2023, Badboyhalo opened stream in the desert for the last time. Most people started comparing this scene to the Pinkie Pie birthday scene. But i could not help but think "huh, this reminds me of that salad fingers scene. I might be insane". so i went to look and.....:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
U can't say they arent similar. An immense desert with a clouded sky and a wooden table with 6 places, which are taken by copies of the main character. The only difference is, besides the obvious gore, that one of the chairs is empty for q!BBH, while all are taken in Salad Fingers.
Another simmilarity is that Salad Fingers tries to interact with the clones, but just as q!BBH's, they neither aknowlege him nor respond.
Demo noticed how the scenery is really similar between the two:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite all this, the episode has no narrative connection to q!BBH's lore. It revolves around Hubert Cumberdale's (a finger puppet created by Salad) and, later on, Salad Finger's birthdays. Generally, i understood it is about the passage of time, together with childbirth/motherhood.
But, right before this scene, still on episode 10, Salad Fingers goes to the doctor. Eventually the focus changes, and the doctor is now examinating a horse while Salad Fingers watches. The horse seems to represent Salad Finger's child. When q!BBH lost his memory, he kept talking obsessively about taking Dapper to the doctor.
Another curious coincidence is that, on the same episode and same scene as the table, "Birthday", Salad Fingers is gifted a tophat as his birthday gift:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Demo pointed out, aswell, how on epidsode 13, named "Harvest" salad fingers is walking through the deserted wasteland towards a glowing circle in the sky (the Sun). During the first desert stream, q!BBH is seen walking towards the Sun aswell. Here are some screencaps from said Salad Fingers episode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The "Edge of Forever" name is also funny considering q!Forever's and q!Bad's close friendship. But i personally think the usage of the word "forever" is only a coincidence. Or it could be related to q!Bad's immortality, the Edge of Forever, than, being where bbh goes to be reincarnated.
On the end of this same episode, "Harvest", Salad Fingers dies and is substituted by Boy Fingers, who is essentially a clone of Salad. This might be relevant, regarding q!BBH possibly dying, but i dont really know how to fit this into a complete theory. Although, since Salad dies from being boiled in a soup and consumed by Boy Fingers, there might be some connection to q!Bad's theme of gluttony.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way both Salad Fingers and amnesiac Q!Badboyhalo behave also overlaps a bit. The constant jumping from subject to subject, a certain level of innocence and naiveness, a detachment from reality and unacknowledgement of death and violence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, the themes that Salad Fingers explores ─ birth, motherhood, fatherhood, conflituous familial relationships, some may say xenofobia or racism, and the 1st World War ─ arent at all related to q!Bad's story. I don't believe cc!Bad used Salad Fingers for anything other than inspiration ─ if it was even used. But, i still found all of this curious and interesting, and i wanted to share with all of you.
If u have any thoughts, feel free to share them! I personally am not a fan of gore, so i haven't seen all of Salad Fingers. This is another reason i'm writing this, so ppl that know more than me can share what they think.
Ty sm for taking ur time and reading this !!!

I think it'd be cool if we got more diverse monsters in future Bendy games. Like, I got an idea of the different groups they could all fall into:
The Studio Workers/Gent Experiments (the monsters we have already e.g. The Lost Ones, The Searchers)
The "Toons" (we have the Butcher Gang yeah- but but! I have an idea I think would be SUPER COOL to include that would really up the potential gore factor in an unique way)
The Ink Humans (I WILL EXPLAIN THIS IN DETAIL AFTER THE TOONS)
Ok, so with the studio workers/GENT experiments, we already know. We're familiar with the Lost Ones intimately now thanks to Dark Revival having them EVERYWHERE & the Searchers. I think a lot of us have seen the latest teaser of the poor Lost One (?) trapped within a reverse bear trap-contraption. Love that. Chefs Kiss. I like to see more tortured Lost Ones. The teaser also showed us like what their skull looks like. I WANT TO SEE MORE! SHOW ME THE LOST ONE ANATOMY FOR LORE!!
Now... for the "Toons"
I had like this idea for toon monsters. I know we got like the Butcher Gang, but I want something a little more towards what Alice Angel is but more...
I took inspiration from media like Bendy: Dreams Come to Life book, the old concept of Ralph Bakshi's Cool World (back when it was meant to be a horror film) and a deleted scene of Who framed Roger Rabbit. Basically, the idea is having like a toon be physically attached to the human like a parasite. And both the human and toons are conscious, with the human trying the damndest to peel the toon off while the toon is trying to stay attached.
Kinda like this a little
youtube
(Go to 3:03 to see what I mean)
The scene in Roger Rabbit is disturbing enough on its own, now imagine what Bendy could do with this!!
I don't necessarily want ACTUAL toon-toon monsters. Mostly because I don't want there to be a possibility of the Ink Demon being overshadowed. The Ink Demon's gotta be THE toon enemy. The Butcher Gang are fine, they're short and kinda on Searchers level of threat for most fans, especially if you came in from the Ink Machine era. If new toons are introduced (which I do want because I want the Bendy toon cast to be expanded too beyond the 6/7 characters we got currently)
Now for the Ink Humans. They're fairly simple. These would be the failed Audrey's! And- I like to think, once GENT discovers what Audrey is or has already known it- they could attempt to replicate Audrey. And these would end up being the most messed up looking humans because GENT can't make anything right. Could be very gorey. Very body horror-y.
Anyhoo, these are my ideas. When I say monsters, I don't always necessarily mean "enemies" we have to fight. They could just be like part of the environment or be neutral/friendly characters like Porter/Heidi. To expand the world of the studio more and show how the world inside the Ink Machine is growing and expanding beyond what Joey Drew had created.

bc its fall now and im wanting an excuse to talk abt Halloween, RTC HALLOWEEN HCS!!
ive never done one of these before, but there's a first time for everything!
(these are all angst free! its all fun little ideas and stuff based off of my own friends back when we spent Halloween together)
tw : mentions of gore (nothing expicit, the word gore is just used a few times)
- Ocean and Constance HATE being scared. Constance will 100% start crying if she gets scared really bad, while Ocean will just fall on the ground and refuse to get up until the immediate threat is gone (even tho she is completely safe)
- Penny loves Halloween for the sole reason of scaring the absolute shit out of Constance and Ocean. she plans it out WEEKS in advance, and the other two dread it bc Penny can be really scary when she wants to be
- Noel also hates being scared, but he blows it off, despite always flinching whenever he gets scared. one time, Penny hid in a bush and grabbed him by the ankles when he wasn't looking and he screamed so loud that everyone outside just. stopped. and stared at him.
- Mischa, Penny, and Noel all love one thing when it comes to Halloween, and that's gore. We already know Mischa loves gorey movies like Saw, and Penny just has twisted vibes, but Noel has a dark sort of humor that makes it so he can enjoy the more grotesque parts of the holiday, aside from the more family-friendly stuff
- the whole group still goes trick or treating, mainly for Penny and Ricky's sake, but they all have fun
- Ricky makes everyone's costumes, he asks everyone 2 months in advance what they want and then goes HAM
- Penny picks the most obscure things as costumes. she's like "I wanna be a vacuum" and Ricky just goes with it
- Mischa has absolutely gone as Ash from The Evil Dead before. He wore it multiple years in a row and was pretty upset when he outgrew it (bc theyre teenagers and growth spurts happen). otherwise my man is always someone from a horror movie. Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, you pick.
- Constance and Ocean are usually pretty basic with their costumes, typically going as witches, zombies, etc etc.
- Noel is just constantly going as iconic women in queer media/cult classics. Heather Chandler from Heathers (probably the musical version), one of the Sandersons from Hocus Pocus (either Winifred or Sarah), etc. He's fr running out of ideas.
- Ricky is a cat. every single year. but it just gets gradually more realistic until it eventually gets CGI Cats level freaky.
- i feel like its a universal experience for someone to trip and fall while trick or treating every year. do I even need to say it? its Ocean. every year, without fail, Ocean wipes out on Halloween. she's mainly unphased, aside from being slightly scraped up, but now the whole group makes jokes abt when they think she'll fall
- they all have a movie marathon where they each pick one movie and just eat candy and hang out. they usually pick the same movie every year.
- Ricky picks Ghostbusters. I dont need to elaborate.
- Penny picks Corpse Bride. i hc she likes animated movies, and its a classic.
- Noel picks Rocky Horror Picture Show. like, come on. it makes sense.
- Ocean picks Hocus Pocus. it literally isn't scary at all (which is one reason why she picks it) and she believes its the "superior Halloween movie"
- Constance pick Nightmare Before Christmas. its just a fun movie that everyone enjoys, regardless of the "Halloween movie vs Christmas movie" debate that the group has EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. (they watch it for both. it literally doesn't matter)
- Mischa picks Saw V (even tho the movie he describes in rtc is Saw VI). he gets confused EVERY YEAR wondering where certain parts that he remembered are, never realizing he picked the wrong movie. nobody corrects him.
- it always turns into a sleepover, whether they plan on it or not. its either at Mischa's or Constance's, so its not an uncommon thing for there to be at least 1 random teenager in their house at any given time.
im out of ideas, I might make a part 2 eventually but thats it for rn :)

(Now all I can think about is Chloe having a breakdown.)
"Chloe?" The tiger hero tiptoed through the wreckage, not truly understanding what the rabbit hero meant when they said she was their last hope. "Are you okay?"
The Hen was nowhere to be seen but she knew she was getting closer when the damage worsened along her path. She came to a weirdly open area. There was nothing but ashes.
"Chloe?" Far away was a blue flame, unlike any fire she's seen in real life. Tigress continued to approach, hoping that this was what she was looking for, who she was looking for.
It was.
Inside the flame was the Hen, except she looked different. Her clothes weren't the right color. Her hair was the wrong shape. Worst of all, her eyes weren't the ones Juleka dreamed of. Once a soft blue were now a harsh red, blurred just slightly by the tears that fell down her cheeks.
"Chloe?" The flaming villain didn't respond. "It's me, Jules."
She stepped closer.
"Is something wrong?"
Another.
"I think I can help."
She crouched down to be eye level with her akumatized friend.
"Let me help you, Chlo-"
Tigress jumped back as a hand came out of the flame. The next thing she knew they were fighting and she was loosing just as fast as it began. Tigress called out her power and pushed away. She took the lead, but now she was on a time limit. She broke everything she could think of as they fought, eventually she was overpowered once more and left to search the villain's pocket as a last stitch effort. She ripped whatever it was she found and the hen snapped out of her trance.
"Jules...?" She got off the hero, pulling her to her feet as they looked at the damage. "Where's Ladybug?"
"I dunno. Some bunny hero brought me here, said Ladybug needed me, but when I got here there was no one."
"Then the damage...?"
"Will never happen." Bunnyx came out of a portal ready to do their job and fix the spacetime continuum.
(I wanted to be more descriptive but felt it got a little gorey so I just reused the word damage a lot)
.
Fuck yeah this is amazing!!!!! Like really!!!! Fuck!!!!!! Oh also I don't really mind gore or othee stuff so if you want to write it, do it without worry!!!!!

Yandere Sarge (he's my favourite :D)
Of course! First Halo RvB request on here!
Yandere! Sarge Concept
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Possessive behavior, Violence, Gun mention, Gore mention, Implied kidnapping, Threats of murder, Delusional behavior, Aggressive behavior, Obsession.
Tumblr media
- Sarge is probably one of the least sane ones out of Team Red and Blue.
- He's always violent and craves conflict.
- If there's none, he creates it.
- Which would make him one of the more aggressive Yanderes.
- He is also egotistical and always believes what he does is right.
- I'd say Sarge is Impulsive, Possessive, Delusional, Aggressive, yet somewhat Compassionate towards you.
- I also feel this goes without saying, but he'd be better off with a Darling on Red Team.
- A Darling on Blue Team would cause Sarge to feel rather conflicted, unsure if he hates you or adores you.
- Sarge is impulsive, he does not plan things well and refuses to get a second opinion.
- Which would make him more likely to lock you up beside him and not consider how you feel as with most impulsive Yanderes.
- The others such as Grif and Simmons may tell him that what he's planning is wrong on so many levels.
- However while he somewhat considers Simmons words, he blows off Grif completely.
- "Trust me, you're just jealous I found someone to be with. DON'T get any ideas!"
- Sarge is also possessive because he loves getting confrontational.
- He often picks fights with Grif over you.
- It's worse if you're on Blue Team.
- Church and Tucker never hear the end of Sarge's delusional rambling about how you shouldn't be with them.
- Think of an overly confrontational dog that barks all the time?
- That's Sarge.
- Speaking of delusional, Sarge is that too.
- He probably fully believes you love him already.
- When you are actually a bit scared of him.
- He's way too trigger happy.
- You can't even make conversation without Sarge bursting in to start a fight.
- He loves fights.
- He probably believes everyone is secretly his enemy except you with his delusions.
- Everyone wants you.
- He just knows it.
- "Keep your distance from (Y/N) if you know what's good for you."
- Aggression comes easily to him.
- He causes fights all the time.
- Even towards you his love can be rather aggressive.
- Sarge seems like the person to flirt, but it comes off as gorey and twisted.
- He thinks it's endearing.
- Yet you essentially just heard he'd shoot everyone he saw for you-
- It terrifies you.
- Despite all the delusions and aggression, he still has the capability to be compassionate.
- He does show he cares for you.
- It just comes out distorted.
- He probably isn't physically affectionate, however he does use words to flatter you.
- He's obsessed with you, just too deranged to properly show love towards you.
- Sarge can be a dangerous Yandere.
- But he'd never pull his gun on you.
- "Stay at the base, let me handle all the dangerous stuff. Grif, Donut, I want not a word spoken to (Y/N). Simmons is fine, but NOT you."

sweet home.
so i must preface that these types of dramas or shows or films for that matter are not my cup of tea. that being said i am easily swayed when it comes to my talented hard working men. lee dohyun and song kang being a part of that list, here i am now eagerly awaiting a season two. so how did this drama series full of thrill and gore, change sweet little ole me into a fan?...let's dive in and find out.
we follow hyun-su a high school student whose whole family tragically dies in a car accident that he survives. he moves into an apartment complex full of new people to him. his move coincides with a mysterious phenomenon of humans becoming monsters, which takes over the world. this pandemic of sorts leads him and those others in the apartment building to try and survive. but the twist, you don't know who will turn into a monster next...
Tumblr media
*spoiler alert*
from the initial intro i knew it was going to be an odd one. the way in which this drama was filmed, i cannot stress enough how perfect the filming was to express the level of thrill. i loved it and was on the edge of my seat. also i must add that i was and still am not a huge fan of the gore, but i can see why they added it. literally whenever there was a monster it was gorey. like insanely full of gore. definitely one could catch me not watching those parts.
the characters.
cha hyun-su. this dude was complex as heck. as soon as you think you figured him out, the whole picture flips. we start off seeing a depressed student wanting to commit suicide. then as he progresses into becoming a monster we see a side of him that he had hidden that wants to desperately live. and that is how he is able to protect his true self from being taken over by the monster inside. it was so sad to see how tortured he was in school; because prior to him crumbling he was a soft-sweet student wanting to help a fellow peer. and that peer turned out to be an awful human being, who in turn despised hyun-su for his kindness. and then his family became torn apart because of his bully's horrible intentions and pull on his father and in turn leading hyun-su's family to neglect him.
eun-hyeok. this dude was twisted and wanted to survive under the disguise of initially wanting to protect everybody. his methods were wack, because he was literally willing to sacrifice hyun-su as a semi monster leading him to battle every day. dude was wack, but as time continued on we saw that he wanted everyone to survive. and he was able to ensure that they could ration and survive long enough to make a move. and we saw him sacrifice himself to protect his sister eun-yu, who wanted to go back for hyun-su. now y'all, what do we think? i think this kid is still alive and is starting to be taken over by the monster because of all the blood we saw at the end, like wouldn't that be perfect if he is alive for the next season. yes, please.
i wish we could have had more development between hyun-su and eun-yu, but i understand that hyun-su was busy being a sacrifice for everyone and protecting and collecting everything they needed to survive and fighting monsters and all. but still i would have loved to have a little something something from them. ya know.
sang-wook our ambiguous mafia-gang member-mercenary dude. i loved how we discovered his origin story near the end. my goodness gracious. he was hunting down the creeps and taking them out. we stan, maybe not the best methods, but he comes through and protects everybody. and then he goes to save our girl yu-ri, the nurse, who has an asthma attack. on the way out they get shot by the wacko dude and my heart just got ripped out of my chest. like whyyyyyyyy?
i am throughly upset that ji-su, our guitar girl, and jae-heon, our pastor, didn't have their chance to shine. i love how they fit each other and both wanted so desperately to protect those around them even though they did not know all of them personally. like he sacrificed himself to protect everyone. i am thankful that he got to confess and i am glad he did not turn into a monster himself because they would have went against all his principles, but still sooooooo sad.
du-sik. our dude who takes the children in and takes hold of our hyun-su when he is at his most volatile state and brings him back to center. just let me weep once again because his character was incredible and i love him. we stan.
yi-kyung, our firefighter queen, who happens to be pregnant and still slaying monsters. like oh my goodness gracious this girl had so many layers. i love how the story just kept unfolding. her back story, like who is her husband? and how does he know so much about the monsters? what monster did he turn into? like i need to know more! then she ends up back with the government. like what?
ui-myeong, the wack dude that is also a monster like hyun-su but increasing more wack and troubled than hyun-su ever was. honestly, kind of intrigued to know his trauma that made him this way. he is so crazy and i still wish eun-yu and eun-hyeon had talked some sense into hyun-su before letting him get buddy-buddy with this creep. and just me thinking that is who sang-wook was at the end, because he most definitely died and we know this creep can shape-shift. right?! (side note: i love his man as an actor, like seriously who can pull off this character?!?)
moments that stuck with me.
the pinky promise to survive no matter what, between eun-yu and hyun-su.
Tumblr media
sang-wook comforting yu-ri when she was caught up in the thought of killing some one. she had to protect herself. and sang-wook kept repeating he was not human.
all the moments that our girl yik-kyung escaped from the monsters. queen.
jae-heon's confession to ji-su.
all the moments that hyun-su did not give into the monster and came back. the desperation worn on his face. like my gosh.
du-sik embracing hyun-su's monster saying 'it's okay' 'it's not your fault'
Tumblr media
the deeper meaning.
it was interesting to see the different dynamics between everybody as the world was crumbling, how everyone reacted. the fellow apartment complex residents, some were so concerned with themselves they neglected the community. like the supermarket owner, where his wife wanted to help everyone he wanted to make a profit.
interesting to see how some of the monsters they turned into were their greatest desire. this was clearly painted in myung-sook's case of not being able to protect her daughter and turning into a monster that was a giant baby. and when they stumbled upon one of the monsters, who wasn't able to protect his children because he could not reach out, and then his monster self was a monster with incredibly long arms.
now i don't know how far of a reach this is and i did not further investigate other than watching the season, and seeing clips of my faves online but is there a deeper meaning to the whole show of the monster inside all of us. what do you think?
overall, i would rate this drama an 8.5 out of 10. it was stellar considering how i am not inclined to watch this genre, but it was great from the character development and intense storyline.

Jade. The fate of female character in Mortal Kombat
It’s been a while since I posted anything on my blog cause I’ve been busy with my life and rapid changes in it. During this time, I’ve watched the new 2021 Mortal Kombat movie as well as the new animation Battle of the realms and also rewatched the Story Mode of MK11 a few times. As you probably can tell, I have a lot to say.
JADE. MILEENA. KITANA. SONYA.
Tumblr media
Skip this if you don’t want to read my very important (and long as sh*t) rant about female characters in MK.
DISCLAIMER. This thing is going to sound extremely feminist and women-supremacist or whatever. By saying things that I’m going to say, I by no means think that male characters should be weak or lacking. If anything, it would be nice to have some godforsaken EQUALITY. I’ll explain further later.
Part One: Mortal Kombat (2021)
There’s no Jade in this movie.
The end. That should be the sole reason I dislike it.
However, it might be better this way since the Nitara and Mileena portrayals in this movie are... questionable to say the least. Okay, y’all been robbed. If MY JADE would be brought into this movie to BE THERE for like 4 minutes of screen time only to get absolutely brutal FATALITY I. would. be. pissed.
Tumblr media
More than I already am and that means something.
Sure, there’s a possibility that she’s going to be present in some of the upcoming movies because this one is definitely not the only one they’re going to make. But do I want that? Yes. And no.
Mortal Kombat movies (and Mortal Kombat in general) have a problem with women portrayal in general. The target audience for them are MEN, potentially heterosexual men, who want nothing more than bloody gorey fighting scenes with occasional sex scene here and there. To achieve that, they need a female lead, an attractive, kinda kick-assish but not too much, to not overshadow the absolutely badass men characters. Girls tend to be “independent” (because God forbid they’d want to express interest in the male leads before the time is right), sarcastic, laid back and sometimes even bitchy. Because, you see, they are fighters. And they are Sonya Blade. They need NO MAN. They just need plot armor, bigger than America itself. And if they’re not Sonya Blade, they are... non existent. They are there, but they are never really there. Here, let me walk on screen for a couple seconds. Let me sit beside Very Important Male Character (aka Shang Tsung) for a couple of seconds, looking absolutely gorgeous. Let me have a fight scene in which I make choices so f*cking stupid there’s no potential explanation to it. I exist in this movie to make people that love me (this character) to come into theatres in hopes to see some good action and interesting plot.
Tumblr media
Now, I wasn’t born yesterday, I know how the world works. It’S bEeN LiKe ThAt FoReVeR, gEt OvEr here iT. Yeah, it’s been like that forever and the result is a mediocre movie that pleases neither the casual viewer, nor the actual Mortal Kombat fan. I don’t know, there might be guys who just saw Kung Lao’s fatality on Nitara, thought to themselves “Neat” and went on with their lives. But I exited the cinema with a sour taste in my mouth, feeling like I’ve watched one of the “fighting genre” films based on video games that had nothing worth remembering. Well, besides Kano. He was my favourite part of this movie and I  normally can’t stand the guy :’D
Would it really help if they changed the way the women were portrayed? I mean - is that the ACTUAL problem of the movie? No, women being the eye candy and barely something else (if they’re not Sonya Blade) are not the only problem it suffers from. It’s that MK has been going the same route, retelling the same goddamn story for the millionth time. It’s always THE SAME. The only thing changing is who’s gonna get brutally killed. But - of course - out of the “disposable” character pool. It’s never Sonya (because you need our female lead or else there would be no female characters in the story), who ya know could be killed by Mileena but magically WASN’T. Because Mileena FOR SOME REASON was like: Ya know what? Naaah. Even though Sonya’s from Earthrealm and is actively trying to stop you. If anything, kill her because she annoys you. BUT NAH. It’s never Liu Kang because he’s the Chosen One. But killing Kung Lao is fine, he can die so Liu can awaken or smth. It’s not the main character because how else can you portray THE MAGIC OF LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP? Ya, that’s what I thought, don’t even think about it.
You have an amazing universe, filled to the brim with SO. MUCH. POTENTIAL. Let go of the same boring plot line and show us Kombat from another perspective. Change something. F*ck, go all feminist route and make a story center around Mileena dominating the world. Try with different versions of the same story, making it center around different character each time.
SURE, YOU’LL PROBABLY LOSE SOME VIEWERS BUT TIMES ARE CHANGING, AND MOST OF US ARE TIRED TO PAY FOR THE SAME STORY OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Part Two: Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms
Jesus f*cking Christ.
Tumblr media
To say this film was rushed is an understatement. While I was watching it, I was like: TF? Everything happens all at once, we have Kuai Liang-Scorpion story line, we have Outworld’s attack, the tournament, not to mention the final fight that should be whole another movie. I felt like no story line was properly laid out, some of the characters died before I got to even know them and the battles were... disappointing. I believe they needed to push this movie out so they squished in everything they had and just went with it.
But, again, this movie just repeats the same things as its live action version. Let me lay it down for you:
Kung Lao dies (because yes)
Sonya Blade lives (because yes)
Jade is just there (more of it later)
disposable characters are disposed of
Liu Kang is badass and always wins
You watch it and feel like you’ve already seen it before. Sure, gore is fine, human Raiden is precious and need to be protected at all costs and adrenaline is pumping (I guess).
BUT NOW.
You know what’s coming.
Tumblr media
JADE.
JADE.
My f*cking piece of sunshine, the gorgeous goddess of beauty and kombat, the woman who owns my heart.
She’s there for like not even a minute.
Words can’t describe how f*cking PISSED I am by this portrayal. These motherfrickers put her in EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE SNIPPET OF THIS MOVIE. HER BATTLE WAS IN THE TRAILER, ONE OF THE SNEAK PEEKS WAS A SCENE OF HER AND KITANA.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TURNS OUT EVERYTHING I SAW BEFORE THE MOVIE WAS RELEASED... WAS EVERYTHING I WAS ABOUT TO SEE OF HER!!!!
THEY MADE ME HYPED UP FOR NOTHING!!!!!!
I know I’m not the only one riding this trolley. Li Mei was there just to be killed. Kung Lao had a f*cking single dialogue line and then BAM, fatality, buh-bye. But I was watching everything of this movie, being so enormously happy that I will finally see Jade in the movies, FINALLY! Only for her to be present in a single scene, get her ass kicked by Liu Kang (what’s new) and then she’s never seen again, even when the whole f*cking world is breaking apart.
Again. She’s just there. Ladies and gentlemen, one of the best Shao Kahn’s assassins, gets her ass kicked in fourty seconds. They NEVER let her speak ffs. She just spews some general villanous sh*t and proceeds to step on Johnny. Then, she just goes Observer mode as Kitana “betrays” Shao Kahn, gets tied to the column and then the world is ending.
WHERE THE F*CK IS SHE?!
If you hype me up for her every chance you get, at least GIVE ME what you’re advertising. This is a scam. This is criminal offense. And homophobic. She is more than a revealing outfit and Liu Kang’s punching bag. I’m SO. F*CKING. TIRED. OF THIS. SH*T.
Tumblr media
Kitana. The rebellious princess of Outworld... turned damsel in distress in this movie. Her role is so effing bad it hurts me to my core. You see her as a general being so badass and independent... oh right, we need Liu Kang to save her because he needs to maintain his hero look. And we need two kissing scenes. How do we get there? Oh, right, let him save her, because you know - that’s what makes wahmen kiss you.
ARE YOU NUTS?!
The movie started just fine, with Kitana being in charge with her right hand, Jade. Then, obviously, they water her down and soon she is a princess in a tower (in this case, princess on a column) that needs her buffy sexy man to save her. Oh, and she can’t resist him - you know, every normal girl’s reaction to getting untied is to kiss a guy you’ve known for like a few hours but seen before and you’ve talked like three dialogue lines in total. Sure.
Kitana just gets the unfortunate role of a female main character. She’s Liu’s love interest and that makes her take the role of a strong (but surface level, only) woman who still needs her hero to free her. Classic damsel in distress story, with Kitana being the princess, Liu being the Prince charming and Shao Kahn as the dragon (lul). Of course, they try to cover this up by making Kitana a general, letting her win a few fights but it won’t matter in the end. Some say that women want to believe in fairy tales but the more I see fighting games’ lore, the more I say it’s the men who want to believe them.
Is it necessarily bad? No. But it’s boring as fuk.
I would like to ask the directors to stop being so afraid of upsetting the target audience. Target audience can change and sometimes it comes out better than originally planned. My Little Pony was designed as a child’s cartoon but it was the creepy men who made it reach the top. Morally? Questionable at best. But business is booming, right? And that’s what they care for, right?
All I’m trying to say is these days women and gays are the future.
Thank you for today, more to come. I’m going to rant about the Story Mode.

Hi snickie!!! 3, 6, 7, 10, 14, and 15! 🖤
MITTENS!!! hello, my good friend, so happy to see you in my inbox :)))
3. and because i know we’re all egocentric, have you ever made yourself laugh out loud or cry with a fic you wrote?
i’ve def made myself chuckle, but never really laugh, you know? cry? nah. i’ve written something (for Of Love And War) where i grimaced because “jesus man wtf how gorey do you want this??” and even then i was like new level of writing unlocked: graphic depictions of gore/violence LMAO
6. what is your favourite sense to incorporate in your writing and why?
touch or sight.
touch because it gives such a raw feeling, how someone’s touch, a simple brush of hands, trailing of fingers can burn through you, set you alight.
sight because a single glance, a fleeting look, can leave you trembling with what is to come, mind racing with hundreds of thoughts, stomach dropping and clenching.
7. what is you favourite sentence/paragraph? read it to us! (asker can choose what fic)
AAAAAAA fuck, there are so many ughh.... i’ll simply give u a list because i truly do like my writing so here are just some of my favs from things on ao3. i’ll see about doin a recordin of these another day :)))
The two of you will twist and bend so intricately together that / no one else could ever understand / the severe complexity of what you have become. | you taught me to misbehave
(The road to hell may be paved with good intentions but somewhere in there good company is just as damning.) | all in good company
Sakura laughed again, looking up at the sky, “Not surprising. I’m told I can be quite charming,”
“I thought you said you were violent.”
“Only when provoked, Detective.” She chirped, rolling over to face him. | the intimacy of being understood
It was unbearable, how she made bloodlust look beautiful. | we are creatures of war, things of violence
5. Lee loves Sakura. He always has, he always will. His heart has a butterfly garden full of fireworks just for her. | a cocoon in the heart, a spark in the brain
10. what word do you keep using like it’s going out of style?
oh goodness... i think i use a lot of the same words over and over again (ive been meaning to read a dictionary of thesaurus tbh...) so i think i often use: violence, blood, gore, eyes, rage, soft.
all of those words are def up there with my favs. they just, idk man, call and speak to me and my style :’’)
14. what trope would you refuse to write even if you were paid to do it?
i mean this in the most respectful way, but probably A/B/O or fake dating/miscommunication.
A/B/O because its not really my thing, i can’t really write JUST porn, and the whole omegaverse rules and stuff is absolutely hilarious to me, i wouldn’t be able to write it to my best ability and meh, mpreg is just.... i dont prefer it! but kudos to those who do write it!! keep goin man, make that keeps you happy!
FAKE DATING AND MISCOMMUNICATION MAKES ME ANGRY. i literally cannot stand it. JUST GROW A PAIR AND TALK DAMNIT. it just,,, annoys the fuck out of me and creates such unnecessary drama! like cmon! there are much better ways to spice it up man! but thats just my opinion :)
15.  describe (one of) your wip(s) in the weirdest/most contrived way possible! (asker can choose what wip)
[evil, menacing laughter ensues]
shikamaru and sakura become mutually obsessed with each other, with the monsters they can make of each other. so much so that they cannot survive without each other, so much that they drive each other to the very brink of violet insanity. (but it is beautiful, oh so beautiful.)
this is describing of love and war my new and fav wip as of rn :’’’’’’)
ASK ASK ASK! (pretty please?)

Stomach (2019)
I love when I get a random message online asking for me to review an underground movie. As if I’m a legit critic. I do love me some independent horror with gore and this movie defiantly has it. But as all self produced film makers out there you gotta get your press were you can but at the same time I think as a person who reviews B movies I might not be the best person to review legit artistic horror films. I love my artistically odd friends. Fridge artists that express their hearts through twisted paintings and music that twists and perverts the mainstreams assumptions of the medias. BUT as I go to these shows and drink HEAVILY I am kind of smirking and giggling to myself. I enjoy subculture art but I know I defiantly don't "get it". This can be said heavily for Stomach. But I do have some things to say.  Its art and its legitimately nasty and gory. So many fans of the low brow trash that I love might actually love this. But unlike many true horror fans I rarely take the genre seriously and Stomach ain’t messing around. 10 seconds in BOOBS. So it's in the plus already. Then we meet Alex a tormented shy man. Alex looks like a gross between Lazar Rockwood from Beyond the 7th Door and Edward Furlongs Crow. The opening scene of the film is tripping and drippy. Gorey sticky effects but done in dream logic quick flashes of symbolic imagery. This kind of imagery works on several levels for some but sadly only one level for me. The sticky gore level , the symbolic flashing level goes right over my head.
Tumblr media
A concept you've heard before as a quiet man who is way too fit to be that shy around other average scum gets so angry at the pigs he works with and sees day to day that his inner anger conjures a demon. A vainy beast from his brain and his stomach that crushes and shreds everyone. Alex works at a factory filled with every scum bag assholes. The factory makes me feel like Klaus the forklift drive is going to show up any minute. It all comes off a little too emo for me but then again so does most straight faced or artistic horror movies these days for me. HOWEVER! When the killer kicks in it kicks IN.
Tumblr media
Blue light on thick red blood does flows in Stomach on the level of under ground nasties like Adam Chaplin. The euro sleazy characters smoking long cigarettes on shiny bed sheets does give a flash back of the Italian remake of Violent Shit. Oh yes this movie is Italian and one thing I give it is its done in Italian. Not like a recent trend of euro underground films that try to speak in English which hinders the acting. So good for them. The directors visual skill is honestly great. Slow focuses set the mood but the constant cutting to mill worms and maggots eating then to rotting leaves does show their camera skills but takes me out of the movie. I'm sure someone's gonna love the random mill worm shot though cause its super gross. I feel deeply that if this shadowy movie was done thirty years ago, shot on 35mm with a sweet pyschodelic score it would become something of legend. Sadly its not. In visual memories of the film I feel like I'm seeing Verotika but smaller, simpler, angrier and more directed. So their for much better than Verotika. Or maybe its just the goopy white monster that makes me think of that. Who knows.
Tumblr media
Also to note that the director and main characters names are Alex. The director is Alex Visani. Which makes me question just want angsty issues might be going on in his head that might need some therapy. Because the Alex in this artsy , blood soaked little horror movie definitely has some problems and we get to see it played out a little slowly but very bloody.

What is the darkest idea you’ve ever had for a fic (that you have or haven’t published yet already)
......... XDDDDD This is an interesting ask to get. Thank you so much, love!
Uh... so..... darkest. :P
Okay okay. We'll go that I have published first. Which I think is probably Reanimation? Although Of Flesh And Blood is arguably darkest due to the gore and cannibalism theme. But honestly, I feel like Reanimation just scores due to the premise and the detoriation of Jason's mind and will and the mental state. And it is borderline gorey anyway. And it is like.... 12k? of pure plotless bloody torture. But..... Flesh And Blood really toys with a messed up...... ultimatum. But the gore is kind of mild and..... Hard to say because they are a bit on different scales.
So yes. That I have posted, it would be either Reanimation or Of Flesh And Blood, although I am leaning on the former. And it is totally not because I like it better. Nope not at all.
As for one that I haven't posted..... uh well..... there are a few to go from.
One of them was this idea (one that I have written bits of scenes for) where the premise basically is...... I throw Jason to Joker for.... I think a year? Two years? I can't remember. It was a decently old idea and I haven't worked on it in a long while. But.... yes. I guess I can say that it is similar to Reanimation in a way? BUT. Jay doesn't die and get patched up ifhe nearly does and it is Joker instead which makes everything better. I actually like that one but it is..... a bit difficult and kinda very long. And it is just going to be pure pure blood and torture, which while I.... enjoy, it just isn't everyone's thing. Fun fact though, I funnily had drafted out a sequel for it without even coming close to finishing the fic itself. I be funny.
Another candidate is a quite very recent one I wrote (It is actually edited, I just haven't posted it). It is a Jason Damian (mostly Jason) whump with a healthy dallop of gore. Like... very gorey. If you have read Cupcakes from the MLP fandom, ..... yeah........ It is approximatedly somewhere there in the gore level. But since I will be posting that one in the future, I won't say too much. (But it really is just another of my plotless pain kill fics, so spoiler is not much of a thing). It wasn't supposed to be this way. It originally had Jason with Bruce or Dick's corpse and was supposed to be trashy and 1k or less. It somehow became 3k+ messed up thing of blood, gore, torture with a side of forced cannibalism. I have really strange head.
Oh! And I have one where Jason, post Batarang Incident, got rescued by Batman from the rubble and..... there will be slavery and no hugs or comfort. And Jason is also rendered mute due to the batarang. But the idea is vague and I only did one scene where I had this Bruce and Jason interaction (which was fun, because it hurts a whole lot) that I also used as lazy, and maybe temporary, world building opportunity. I am really struggling with the premise so I am also chucking that somewhere to stare at whenever I have an idea of what to do with it.
Mmmmmm...... Yeah. That might be all that I have ever put down semi-properly. Others are just baaic ideas or concepts, which, for all I know, might not turn out that dark. The winner? I have a feeling that it is the Jason dami gore one. It might end up even beating Reanimation. The Joker one would be a close runner up.
So..... yeah! As a whole, Imma go with either Reanimation or that to-be-posted Jason Dami gore. Probably is the latter though. I am now very tempted to post that. I might. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...... I am caught in a bit of a pickle.
!!!!! This had been a ton of fun, Anon love. Thank you so much for asking! <3 Sorry if got too long and rambly. I'm kind of lacking sleep and I happen to enjoy answering this too much. But this is one of the lights of my day (yesterday??? I mean... I started typing his at eleven and now it is past midnight). Thank you lots!
Also, if anyone wants to know more about any of them, feel free to ask ^^

pregame shuichi - canon basics
i was adopted into a really wealthy family at the age of three. they gave me one of the biggest rooms, obviously when i was big enough to need one, and they trusted me with a lot of things.
at around age 8 or 9, i got really into horror movies and just gorey stuff. during middle school, i met kaede akamatsu and we immediately click. she had a weird personality. she was brash and had a mouth on her but you couldn't not love her. she protected me from anyone who tried messing with me. if you bullied me, you had to deal with kaede akamatsu after school.
we both went into the same highschool together and that's when things get a little spicy.
kaede and i meet everyone else !!
tenko was a trans female who did a lot of training after school. angie was in a very forceful christian family which wasn't something she liked a whole lot. himiko was a little brat who always tried to get her way with things and she had a thing for picking on me. i don't remember a lot about miu, maki, kirumi, or tsumugi.
for the boys; korekiyo spent a lot of time with us after school because he didn't like going home and being around his sister. kaito was a dickhead who had faith in no one and he picked on everyone any chance he got. ouma was shy and stuff, like how the fandom perceives him. the number one rule in our friend group was to not go too far with ouma because he was literally baby. if you went too far with your jokes and he started crying, you either got attacked by maki or threatened by me or rantaro. speaking of which, rantaro did in fact participate in the 52nd danganronpa game. he was the most leveled guy in the whole group from what i remembered. i had an obession over him which maybe even rivaled my obsession with kirigiri-san. i don't really remember much of hoshi, gonta, or kiibo.
i was in a relationship with rantaro at first but after a while, rantaro and i talked about adding someone else in our relationship and that person was ouma. before dating those two however, i was fuckbuddies with kaito. despite the fact that it was just a sex relationship, i gained feelings towards kaito. i tried telling him, in hopes that he liked me as well, but that didn't work. kaito told me that he didn't like me at all like that and that he was straight and not into "f#gs" despite being in a sexual relationship with me. after that, we both agreed to stop the whole fuck buddy thing and just stay platonic friends, but i didn't talk to him that much afterwards because i was hurt.
in this canon, i was more level headed and extremely watered down from how the fandom headcanons pregame shuichi. i did have an obsession with danganronpa, kirigiri kyouko, and gore. i was a very nervous kind of guy and yeah, i had a high ass sex drive. but i wasn't that out of it.
i joked a lot about how i would love to be apart of dangaronpa and be the shsl detective but i always thought of it as a joke. i was never serious about it but some people thought i was. when the next danganronpa game was coming out, tsumugi tried pressuring me to apply.
she kept saying that if i joined then my dreams would finally becoming true. she also said that i would be famous and if i survive, i could use my popularity for anything. she also tried to convince everyone else to join as well.
we obviously didn't want to be apart of it, kaito was thinking about it, so we told tsumugi that she has to choose between our friend group or danganronpa. i geninuely don't remember what she picked but i hope it was what she wanted.

This is it. This is how I die.
This is something a little different but bear with me. There were talks of the vampire boyos we know and love being a bit more....gorey. Thus, here’s my attempt at some semi-creepy vampire action. I honestly didn’t know how to title this because I didn’t want to give away who I made into a monster (it’s obvious when you read the fic because I like the surprise element rdkufgkrnd). Tagging @narekashi and @ikemenprincessnaga for enabling this.
Warning for mild disfigurement and mild gore.
Have you ever experienced fear so unnerving, so spine-chillingly real and horrifying that the only thought left in your primal lizard brain is, “This is it...this is how I die.”? Very few could ever say that they have - such an occurrence is a rarity, thankfully. But, on a night such as this - where the moon lays dormant with its light unable to penetrate the dark clouds that swarm it, and the wind howls softly to warn of its imminent danger, much in the same way a rattlesnake shakes its tail to keep those it can endanger away - there are shadows that lurk with only one thought in mind.
The reports have been minimal, but those that have seen it can recount it with such gruellingly intricate detail that it’s more than easy to imagine one before you.
Eyes strained and bulging, pupils so dilated that you could not decipher the colour of its eyes.
Movements so otherworldly and unnatural, as if all of the beautiful terror of a spider’s gangly legs and a lizard’s scattered unpredictable movements were combined into this creature’s being. Slow, meandering steps juxtaposed against the constant twitching of its neck, its fingers - the kind of twitching that coaxed your body to mimic it, the kind that sent a wave of cold unease through you, weighing you down like a rock in the pit of your stomach. Its knuckles seemed to contort and stretch with its fingers, the digits curling and twisting as if its bones were nothing more than decoration. Its hands moved like an insect’s feelers, constantly assessing the air as they contorted and curved like the blades of a scythe, fingernails growing and shrinking in the bat of an eye.
If you were lucky enough, it would move too fast for you to witness its shoulder blades stretch - as if trying to escape the flesh imprisoning it - before pulling its arms back taut, all whilst its elbows stayed perfectly in place, fingers twitching and spasming more erratically. But you would not be able to escape the sounds of its disfigurement; bone grinding against bone, the distinct sound of tendons and ligaments snapping and popping...and the rasped, shallow breaths of dehydration.
No matter how far away it was from you when you first saw it, it would be in front of you in an eye blink, neck flailing like a bobblehead with a faulty spring, eyes black and full, any remnants of the creature’s eyelids not found. None have ever seen more than the lifeless nothingness of its pupils, but you almost think you can glimpse the tiniest sliver of a pure sky blue; a ring of light surrounding the encompassing darkness of madness. The cracked skin of its palm will grab your neck, ensnaring you within its grasp as it cranes your neck to its longest length, squeezing your airways and stretching your muscles to unbearable levels of discomfort.
The last thing you will see before you feel your pulse beats its last and the skin surrounding your jugular is torn to shreds to reach your sweet life force beneath is its jaw creaking open, dropping lower and lower, its jaw tendons stretchy and malleable like melted cheese. You will see its fangs push free - an immaculate ivory hue, begging to plunge themselves inside your skin - and its tongue of a garish black slither up to coat the teeth with its saliva. Only then will the moon break free from its cloudy prison to shine its light over you - it's offering of peace before your soul is ripped from this mortal plane - for you to catch a glimpse of blonde hair illuminated by the eerie moonlight.
This is it...this is how I die.

A Top 30 Horror Movies
This is Halloween! This is Halloween! There are a lot of awesome horror movies, but I picked just 30 that qualify as my favorites.
#30 - The Conjuring
Tumblr media
So this movie isn’t perfect. The last 20-30 minutes kinda turn into a mess as the demon gets more confrontational. But, the first 90 minutes are a near perfect slow build of tension and smart visual storytelling. All the actors do a good job, even the kids. This movie has insured I never play Hide and Clap.
#29 - Paranormal Activity 2
Tumblr media
In my opinion superior to the (still pretty good) original, PA2 moves faster than its predecessor and uses the audience’s curiosity against them in interesting ways. You’re always looking to the edges of the screen for something or someone out of place, and as the movie progresses, that curiosity rattles the nerves more and more.
#28 - The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
Tumblr media
One of the only modern horror remakes that improves and expands on the original. The Hills Have Eyes hit when I was a junior in high school. It is gleefully gorey and deranged. People die in awful ways, and the protagonist (seen above) spends most of the last half hour drenched in blood. It’s a lot of fun if you’re into that sort of thing.
#27 - Event Horizon
Tumblr media
Space Horror is a hard genre to get right. Event Horizon knocks it out of the park by getting the slow build right. There are gruesome and bloody images from time to time, but the majority of the movie is built on tension and dread. Having Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne leading the cast adds some dramatic weight to the proceedings.
#26 - The VVitch
Tumblr media
The GOAT 17th Century rural horror movie. This movie gets real weird and leaves a lot up to the audience’s imagination. The less said about it the better if you haven’t seen it. But, even for the 2010s renaissance of horror, this one stands out.
#25 - Hereditary
Tumblr media
This is a list of my favorite horror movies, not the scariest. If it were “scariest” this would be top 10, maybe top 5. The second half of this movie is some of the most uncomfortable and relentlessly horrifying storytelling I’ve ever seen. Across just two feature films, Director Ari Aster has proved himself a master of the horror genre. We’re all worse off for it.
#24 - Return of the Living Dead
Tumblr media
The first movie on this list that is more funny than scary, Return of the Living Dead is laugh out loud hilarious at times. Somehow, it still manages to be a more effective zombie movie than most serious ones. Great punk rock soundtrack and highly quotable, this is great for people who scare a little too easily.
#23 - Friday the 13th Part 2
Tumblr media
Basically improving on the original in every way, Friday the 13th Part 2 is iconic even without Jason’s hockey mask making an appearance. The killer instead keeps a lumpy bag over his head the whole time. The movie lets you know early on that its going to be ridiculous, when the Part 2 logo literally smashes through the Friday the 13th title card. Great representation of the slasher genre.
#22 - Suspiria (2018)
Tumblr media
I’m a sucker for lore in movies, and Suspiria is full to the brim with details that expand on the world. Led by great performances from Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, the movie is highly intelligent and occasionally brutally violent. The fact that the director’s prior movie was “Call Me By Your Name” shows that he’s a talented filmmaker no matter the genre.
#21 - Halloween (1978)
Tumblr media
Michael Myers is iconic. The music is iconic. Jamie Lee Curtis is an all-time great horror leading lady. Halloween is a must watch for horror genre fans.
#20 - Get Out
Tumblr media
This movie is so well written it won an Oscar. Get Out is both hilarious and brutally tense. The acting is awesome across the board. Who knew Jordan Peele would use his comedy talent to make a career in scary movies?
#19 - Shaun of the Dead
Tumblr media
A classic comedy filled with so many jokes that it takes about 3 watches to catch them all. Not scary in the least, but uniquely playful in the genre. Also made Simon Pegg a star. Nothing but greatness here.
#18 - The Descent
Tumblr media
I’ll always remember my first watch of this movie. It slaps you in the face with trauma in the first 5 minutes. Then spends three quarters of an hour building tension and claustrophobia before suddenly becoming a solid monster feature. Though it fizzles a little at the end with some wtf moments, the first 3/4ths are very effecting.
#17 - Nightmare on Elm Street
Tumblr media
Nightmare on Elm Street is just a cool as hell idea for a horror movie. It takes the occasional predictability of Halloween or Friday the 13th and flips it. The kills are inventive and visually interesting, the effects are very cool, and you get to see Johnny Depp get brutally murdered. win-win-win.
#16 - Saw
Tumblr media
Saw came out at a perfect age for me. Seeing this movie at 16 was a great experience. Even as the sequels got worse and worse, the whodunnit nature of the original held up. People were literally drowning in gore by Saw 3, but this is a solid movie that knows when to tone things down. Great watch.
#15 - Evil Dead 2
Tumblr media
By turns hilarious and unsettling, watching Evil Dead 2 allows the viewer to marvel at the special effects done on a shoestring budget. Bruce Campbell is an absurd and talented physical actor, and singlehandedly carries this movie into the hall of fame.
#14 - IT Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Chopping the 1,000 page Stephen King book in half allowed the first half of the IT saga to thrive. Bill Skarsgard is a fantastic Pennywise, and the child actors all do well. A slightly repetitive series of scares keeps this one from perfection (and would be the downfall of Part 2), but its still an amazing peak of the genre.
#13 - Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Tumblr media
Fast zombies. Zack Snyder directing before his head got too big. Hilarious musical cues. Apocalyptic imagery. This movie is one of the best of the zombie genre.
#12 - Fright Night (1985)
Tumblr media
One of the most simply fun movies on this list, Fright Night is straight out of the mid 80s. It never takes itself too seriously, but it still has some good scares sprinkled in. An essential vampire movie, and the remake with Colin Farrell wasn’t half bad either.
#11 - The Omen (1976)
Tumblr media
One of my early favorites, The Omen is another lore filled film that gradually ramps up the twists until the dramatic finale. Probably one of the least scary films on my list, its built on Gregory Peck being a great actor and a few pretty messed up deaths.
#10 - An American Werewolf in London
Tumblr media
Another favorite from childhood, this is the best the werewolf genre has to offer. Made by John Landis who also did Animal House and Blues Brothers, American Werewolf balances 80s level of gore with award winning special effects and clever music (every song featured has moon in the title).
#9 - It Follows
Tumblr media
One of the newest (and most original) movies on the list, It Follows is one of a kind. It’s terrifying, has great cinematography and halfway through the movie you have absolutely no clue how it will end. Must see.
#8 - Midsommar
Tumblr media
This is absolute newest film on the list, and one I’m anxious to rewatch. Midsommar sets itself apart by being 95% in broad daylight and providing a wealth of backstory to the “bad guys”. Also Florence Pugh shows that she is an amazingly skilled actress, particularly in the final 10 minutes.
#7 - The Exorcist
Tumblr media
^That guy is scary. He’s also only in the movie for like 3 seconds. Obviously this is a classic. If you haven’t seen it and like horror at all, it will still amaze you, almost 50 years later. I would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall when it was in theaters watching people lose their minds. Still a masterpiece of the genre.
#6 - The Blair Witch Project
Tumblr media
I watched The Blair Witch Project for the first time alone in my room at age...I believe 14. That was a mistake. While the mistakes of the hikers become a bit hilarious on multiple rewatches, the night scenes are still tense af. The last 15 minutes are uniquely terror-inducing. Everybody’s seen this one, but if you haven’t, maybe watch it with the lights on?
#5 - The Evil Dead (2013)
Tumblr media
This movie is one of the most intense and relentless horror movies ever. Nail guns, rusty knives, a turkey carver, a chainsaw, a machete: people get literally ripped apart in this movie. But, here’s the thing, its really really fun to watch. You’ll be out of breath when its over, but still.
#4 - Cabin in the Woods
Tumblr media
Cabin in the Woods isn’t THAT scary. It flirts with scary. It has some shocking and frightening moments But mostly its a shitload of fun that plays on every trope of the horror genre. It also has one of my favorite final moments of any film on this list.
#3 - The Thing
Tumblr media
Underappreciated upon its release, The Thing has become the standard by which body horror is measured. Its delightfully paranoid and lets the audience sit and think as gruesome deaths pile up.
#2 - Alien
Tumblr media
One of the first movies to terrify me, Alien is one of the greatest horror movies ever made. The monster design is iconic. The kills and set pieces are one of a kind. It has a kick ass female heroine played by Sigourney Weaver. What more do you want?
and finally
#1 - The Shining
Tumblr media
YEAHHHHHHH Here’s a brief list of iconic Shining scenes: - An elevator full of blood - The old woman in room 237 - All work and no play make Jack a dull boy - The snowy hedge maze - Here’s Johnny - Danny’s vision of the twins - The house of horrors finale featuring the man in bear costume featured above and of course - REDRUM This movie is a masterpiece, made by one of the greatest directors of all time, starring one of the greatest actors of all time and based on one of the scariest books by the defining horror author of our time. Its damn near perfect.

To answer your first question, I think either works. Both have benefits and drawbacks (smaller friend group means if any individual leaves, it can have a significant impact on everyone, having multiple different groups means if one implodes you still have friends elsewhere, smaller friend group can be more intimate, though both types can be mixed together too where you are close to some individuals in different groups). (1)
For the second question, I think it depends specifically on what you mean. Like you should be comfortable having convos about your interests, about food, general topics etc. and you should feel relaxed and like you’re being yourself with friends. You shouldn’t fear them biting your head off over a small disagreement or mocking you cruelly for things you say or for experiences you have had or for boundaries you establish. But then there are moments where a filter is necessary. (2)
For instance, around children and teens, making sex jokes and describing porn or sex isn’t really appropriate. Talking about pets around someone whose pet just died is insensitive usually. Some topics might be okay with some friends but not with others like… horror movies for instance. Some people can’t handle all the gorey details while others can. There have to be some filters socially out of respect for others and for others respecting you. (3)
But you shouldn’t be forced to filter yourself until you are an inauthentic version of yourself around friends. Like, they might hate gore, but they should still be okay with you being like ‘I watched X, a horror movie recently, I liked it a lot, it was a lot of fun and had good characters’. Around a younger relative you might not swear, but that would be because part of you doesn’t want to influence their language and social skills negatively which is just another facet to you. (4)
So like, there should be reasonable social filters is what I am getting at. Anxiety should not be trusted as a filter as it tends to overreact and go 'no topic should ever be spoken of in this land’. But like, you should still feel like you are being yourself when following filters. Like, if you loved horror movies and all your friends hated them, you still shouldn’t have to pretend that your interest in horror doesn’t exist as long as you respect their lack of desire for specifics. (5, End.).
oooooh that’s true, it’s crazy how much a small group dynamic changes when one person isn’t there…… i have one group where 2 people are going to Japan for two years, which essentially means it’s Me And One Other Person because there’s only four of us gkfjndgfdjg IT’S GONNA BE WEIRD…. so that’s a good point.
mmm that’s true!! being able to just say whatever at any point can be like… really jarring if people aren’t prepared for it, or have different comfort levels. respect is definitely a big thing. i was talking specifically about like…. “oh it’s good to know that i can’t make like Jokes About My Issuez around these friends in particular” and at first was kind of put off by that, but came around to the realization (through talking to another friend lol) that it’s like a basic comfort level thing. people need to be Prepared to deal with heavy topics, and need to be more familiar with what’s expected of them if it’s going to be jokey (should they be concerned? are they suddenly burdened with the task of “cheering up” if you’re using the jokes to cover up genuine feelings about it? etc). which is fair, im a similar way where i don’t like dealing with Really Heavy Shit if i’m not comfortable with a person. i’m okay with it if we’re close and i’m not in a low place, but otherwise, it’s too stressful! it’s interesting that these things have to be kind of felt out with each new person you interact with, though.
BUT YEAH….ALL GOOD POINTS…. definitely a good point about “it shouldn’t be about censoring Yourself, just being respectful” because that’s like very true. i always have the hardest time figuring that out – “is not being able to talk about x personal thing bad, or reasonable?” and usually it’s like…. gotta figure out how uncomfortable of a topic it can be for people. because if it’s like “they think it’s annoying when i talk about x issue because their issues are “””worse.”””’ then that’s like. obviously bad…… but if it’s “they are uncomfortably when i talk about x issue because they don’t know how to respond without warning / they don’t feel comfortable enough with me yet / it’s triggering for them” those are like.. valid.
it’s so hard to figure out, though!! humans are so complicated
