8. Most fun and least fun part of the process

I like rough sketches bc it’s fun to plan stuff and let it be messy.. and I like coloring flat colors bc it’s relaxing. My least favorite part is sometimes rendering light and shadow.. I still like it but not as much I guess, sometimes it’s difficult, but I love seeing the end result so it balances out😅. But actually I just enjoy the entire process.. tho it depends on how perfectionist I’m feeling at the moment..

15. What program do you use

I use procreate, and for animations I use flipaclip.. not sure if I like flipaclip but it’s pretty easy to understand at least lol..

22. What inspires you?

I guess broadly a lot of different art like comics, games, movies lol.. and also real life gestures and naturalistic details. I always want to make stuff feel human even if it’s cartoony or whatever.

Specifically.. as for art styles, i don’t really have just one style and I’m inspired by a big range of styles, funky dynamic shapes/colors in 2000s cartoons, 80s/90s anime (especially utena), a lot of works by Masaaki Yuasa, those wacky Rankin-Bass figurine facial expressions and shapes lol, (also I adore the art of Yoshiro Kimura-adjacent games like Moon RPG, Chulip, and Little King’s Story, which reminds me a lot of rankin-bass) And i guess UT/DR, big surprise😊 For softer/more realistic styles of course studio ghibli naturalism like everyone else, also Satoshi Kon’s style.. old children’s book illustrations, and I love the soft colors and styles of the mangas for Utena and Kuragehime. And my fav art history movement is probably art-nouveau bc a lot of the illustrations combine soft elegance with dark lines and bold colors and i love it. I try to take a lot of small elements from all of these things lmao.

hard to choose considering i feel like my art changes every day (kinda feel like its changed now that i havent drawn in a couple of weeks omfg) but this single drawing kind of just did something to my brain and now i draw in this sort of style a lot. its fun. i usually end up disliking my old art after a while but i still kinda like this (except his horns. why do i have the habit of drawing them so big?!? lmao)

I’d like to make graphic novels or comics, something that’d let me combine my interests (art and writing). Whether that means I should apply myself into the comics industry or aim for self publishing, I’m not too sure! I’d also like to be an illustrator because I love putting detail into my work.

Dream trip: Maybe New York city? I’d love to check out the shops and food there. I’d also really love to visit that cat island in Japan.

Instruments you play: The flute! I’d been playing for about 8 years but I haven’t played since I graduated high school. I was cleaning stuff out of my closet not too long ago and found my flute. I can still play the scale so I’m not too rusty.

Languages you speak: English, and not much else 😅 I can understand Spanish okay, but I’m super self conscious about speaking it so I don’t use it very often. I can speak a basic level of Spanish.

Random fact: When I was a little girl my feet would point inwards and make me walk funny. I only know this because other people told me I walked funny, otherwise I didn’t think much of it or even consider that the way I walked was weird. My mom tried correcting the problem by switching my shoes (putting my left foot on my right and vice versa) in an attempt to straighten my feet, but I kept crying about how uncomfortable it was so she left it alone. Nowadays I think I walk normal? No one has told me otherwise at least. But if I lie down or just stick my legs in the air, it feels natural for my feet to slant down towards each other as opposed to laying straight as I have observed other people doing. Are my feet crooked? Probably!

Cats or dogs: I can’t and refuse to choose between the two. You cannot make me. Both are good.

Aesthetic: Lace, ribbons, and all that frilly stuff. I love doll-like and lolita aesthetic. Pastel and girly shit is what I’m all about. 💝

((Under a cut bc LONG. I’m also posting this from mobile so y’all know the drill if the cut doesnt work))

Said it before and I will continue to say it: Wolfman is the only one I think should write for Raven. So Obvsly the New Teen Titans comics are a good place to start, especially since that’s going Back To The Beginning and covers a lot of the storylines that the cartoon later adapted (excuse the assumption, but I’m definitely gonna go ahead and guess that you’re probably a fan of the cartoon right?). You’ll be in for quite a long read, as the first run of NTT (1980) is 40 issues long while the second run (1984) is nearly 50!

An important aside: Cartoon Raven and Comic Raven are NOT the same. Not entirely, and especially not in the way fanon often portrays her (usually pulling solely from the cartoon & if from the comics, not the ones I’m personally a fan of). Some fans that go in to read for Raven are Surprised by this and either ignore it or fall even more in love with her as a character. I’m in the latter camp, obvsly. Which makes me Valid lmao this isn’t to say that people pulling from other writers ARENT Valid, but considering Wolfman & Perez’s intentions with her as a character and how it’s been skewed and broken over time, I feel like there’s a big disconnect and misunderstanding for those fans. Even if we don’t agree with it, we should be mindful of original Author/Artist intent, and understand what it means when we either ignore instead of criticizing it.

That being said:

If you’re looking for something shorter, Wolfman wrote all 3 of Ravens miniseries! DC Special: Raven has art by Damion Scott (his style took me awhile to get used to and I didn’t originally like it but it’s grown on me a lot since then. So keep that in mind. It’s... a shock but Interesting to me) her second mini takes place in N52 continuity but works very well as a stand alone. Can’t remember the artist there, but I didn’t mind the art TOO much. The stories in both those minis were Trigon-free too as far as the plot went, which was a VERY NICE break. (correction: Raven (2016) (aka White Carnival) actually takes place in Rebirth continuity, not n52 or at least in that weird time between the two? minor but Important detail if keeping continuities straight if ur jam. it still works as a standalone story tho imo, but i guess it was referenced/tied into the Teen Titans run from the time)

My all time fav mini though? (None of you will be surprised) Raven: Daughter of Darkness! The art’s by Pop Mhan, and Wolfman was finally given the opportunity to spread out a story across 12 issues and ooof! The sheer POTENTIAL that he brought along in it! Even after 3-going-on-4 whole decades of writing this character he brings something so consistent to her, and a few fresh things too it’s just *chefs kiss* really nice. I’d recommend maybe reading White Carnival (the n52 Raven miniseries) first, since it’s referenced a few times in DoD, but it’s not absolutely necessary. It’s just cool to see continuity connections even if it’s something as simple as across N52/Rebirth lines.

Not going to speak to the quality of the stories, but Death in the Family and Under the (Red) Hood are obviously regarded as defining stories for Jason. There’s plenty of comics to read leading up to DitF and I would want to encourage you to look up a reading rec list as I don’t have one with me to recommend unfortunately! I tried to start RH&O but just... couldn’t quite get into it, and also had other things I wanted to read first anyways haha. So I won’t speak too much on that run just yet.

As for other batfam members and comics specifically regarding them as a group. I’ve greatly enjoyed No Man’s Land (1999) both as a giant crossover event and for introducing and bringing together a lot of the family (including introducing Cass Cain ofc!). Batman & Robin: Eternal (2015) was actually one of the first storylines I read when getting back into comics, so I have a bit of nostalgia associated with it. Although overall I DONT quite enjoy it as a Cass Fan now, its still interesting in showing a bit of how the batfam mixes and meshes together and the plot is just.... a fuckin rollercoaster lmao. Not necessarily a fun one for everyone tho. Once again it’s a n52/Rebirth Story iirc, so keep that in mind if you’re worried abt what Canon you’re reading in!

I don’t have many more to rec batfam-wise, other than wanting to encourage reading Cass’ Batgirl run from 2000. Its quintessential Cassandra Cain & TONS of fun, at least mostly in the first half haha. Latter was a little *wobbles hand*. I’ve spoken on another blog abt Steph’s time as Robin in War Games, but that’s def one to save for after you’re a bit more versed in these characters I’d say bc it’s.... Big Oof.

i did that style challenge that was popular like... a year ago? haha! i admire a lot of artists and i thought this might help me escape this art block, and it worked! 10/10, I recommend to all artists looking for something new to draw ^^ some notes on each thing below the cut!

My style – funny enough, this was probably one of the hardest drawings for me, and it’s one of my least favourites of the bunch! It’s actually really hard to try and mimic your own style if you change as often as I do. So, instead, I decided to go with THOA’s style for the first few chapters, as it’s (somewhat) consistent! (Also, didn’t mean for him to look so small but my wrist was killing me too much to fix this by the end of it!)

@lavendertowne – Haley is probably my fav artist on youtube because her videos are so soothing and helpful! Honestly, sometimes I look forward to just listening to her voice… and her art style is so bouncy and unique, so I was really excited to try it out! One of my favourite things to recreate were the eyes; I realized halfway through that they’re not circle shaped, but more angular instead? It’s interesting how copying a seemingly simple art style makes all the little details pop out at you. And it’s not as easy as it looks! It took me so many attempts to draw the eyes and the mouth, which look like they’d be the easiest... Honestly though, this one was my favourite to draw and my fav outcome. Haley’s style is just so different from mine that it was a super refreshing change!

Pokemon Sun/Moon – Pokemon is what got me drawing in the first place, and has been in my life since I was around 8 years old... so of course I had to draw in its style! I decided to choose the more recent games for reference as I thought it’d be easier, but NOPE. It was so hard;;; My shaky hands really struggle at crisp lines, but it was a fun challenge!

Nozmo – Nozmo has been a major influence on my art since the beginning of highschool, particularly because of her comic “todd and the petunia violet”. Even though it’s been cancelled, it still takes all my willpower not to try and recommend this story to everyone, since it had such a major effect on my life... it was my first real comic influence tbh! So, I really tried my best to do her justice! Although I was really unskilled back then, this was rather shockin for me because Luke used to look like a rougher (uglier) version of this... this took me on a blast to the past X_X

Animal Crossing – LMAO I mostly wanted to do this for a challenge, and it really was one… omf. I gave up on perfecting it hahaah. Even though it’s nowhere near as polished as animal crossing art is, I actually think this Luke is really cute~

The Moonrise During the Day / The Moon That Rises During the Day – I’m really happy with how this one turned out! Though I think I made Luke look a little bit too similar to Joon oh, it was so fun recreating my favourite webtoon’s style. It was actually pretty easy as there’s a lot of similarities between it and my general art style, EXCEPT for the hair. Holy hell. I honestly couldn’t get the shading right for the hair at all, but I tried my best T__T’’

Fruits Basket – I had to draw my introduction to shoujo or I’d feel like I was betraying my childhood self! I feel like little me would be so happy with this. I ended up following the anime’s style because the manga is pretty inconsistent art wise, though I don’t think I captured the pointiness of the Shoujo style as much as I could have. I have certain gripes with aspects of the FB art style, so I think I unconsciously modified some of them here – which sucks! I might go back and edit it later haha

Super Secret – One of my more recent favourite webtoons! I really like how fluffy and – delicate? – this art style is. I’m not used to such simple styles, making it another challenge! I find the simple styles to be the most difficult to recreate ^^;

Omyo – Omyo is another great webtoon artist, this time of two of my faves (the stories of those around me, and salty studio! Check em out on webtoon)! I went with the Salty Studio style for this, sorta. Instead of copying the actual comic’s artwork, I mimicked the end cards instead, since they’re always so colourful and pastel!

SURE I’m glad you liked those! Everything by Memphis is A+ and I love it so if you haven’t you should check out more stuff by them ( No Ordinary Love is super nice, That’s Just Life is very dear to me and so is Divinity, Speechless is… my otp song for every otp ever tbh) - Bring Me The Horizon is my fav post-hardcore band and both MMF and Chiodos are that genre so if you don’t know them give them a try! (Blasphemy, Run and Doomed are between my faves out of the latest album, and since you liked Under Your Halo you’re probably gonna like Follow You too) the album right before is amazing too if you’re okay with less melodic stuff, but the further back you go with BMtH the harder to listen to they get, just a heads up - Sleeping With Sirens are on the softer side of post-hardcore lately, Fly, Left Alone, Trouble, Fire and Empire To Ashes are some great ones, between the many, and, uhhhh, at this point I might have recced Nothing More a hundred times but let’s make it a hundred and one, try Funny Little Creatures, Do You Really Want It and Go To War out of the newest album! If you’re into punk and female voices you should check out Tonight Alive too, Jenna has one of my two fav female voices in rock right now (Crack My Heart and Temple are the latest two songs out!) and since I always rec stuff but I never rec anything by my favorite band ever, you ever heard of Alter Bridge? They’re more towards hard-rock/alternative metal, but check out Blackbird, Fortress, I Know It Hurts, Cradle To The Grave and Broken Wings just to make it one for every album I really, really adore this band and everything they ever made

It’s not a stupid question, don’t worry!! But I generally like to leave myself in Horikoshi’s hands for this sort of stuff, since I both enjoy the costumes as they are AND don’t want to be disappointed in case what I hope for doesn’t actually happen - that said, I’ve mentioned before that I’d really like Aoyama to get redirectors for his laser on his palms and for Kaminari to get a close combat weapon, since with the quirk he has anything metal would actually work wonders for him! He mentioned a sword, but I rest my case that tonfas would be cool, I really want him to use tonfas. A “costume” I don’t understand is Hagakure’s, by the way - would be nice if she got an actual costume and also I don’t really get why she’d wear gloves at all?? Mirio’s costume was made using his hair, I really want her to get something similar! That’s about it tho, I haven’t really thought much about anyone else in that sense~

What is the most expensive item of clothing you have ever bought and was it worth it? I honestly don’t know oh my god. Probably the suit (pants + blazer) I bought a few years ago and that’s still good and whenever I have to be dressed in a “serious and elegant” way that’s what I go for. So yeah it was worth it.

Whats your opinion on the headcanon that bakugou is hard of hearing because of how loud his explosions are? If you dont mind my asking

I think I answered this q on this blog already? Maybe? But anyway, I don’t exactly mind it, but I can’t say I share the headcanon myself - for one, because I’m of the opinion that their bodies are built to withstand a safe use of their quirks (a bit like you can’t break a leg by simply walking, you know), so in general I’m not a fan of headcanons that include damages caused by simply doing what their bodies were born to do?

But also because generally, even under the assumption that his body isn’t made to hold up with his explosions, isn’t it awfully convenient how only his ears take damage in these scenarios? What about his eyes? How come he can still see with no problems even with the continuous exposure to the explosions’ light? How about his hair? How come he can stand so close to fire without it ever being damaged by it? His palms have thicker skin and we know that thanks to his UA file, but what about the rest of his body? How come he can stand smack in the middle of an Howitzer Impact without getting even slightly burnt? When you say “only his ears aren’t made to withstand his explosions” what you’re telling me is that his whole body is tailord to deal with his quirk but his ears, and that just feels unrealistic to me - by which I mean, when this is the scenario we’re talking about, you can’t give the fault of the damage to Bakugou’s quirk. It’s a problem his body has, not a natural consequence of having that sort of quirk. And imho with those premises you sort of end up with a different kind of story, you’re supposed to write it differently - that’s what I think, at least

Ah, this is also another reason why I’m not a huge fan of the headcanon - don’t get me wrong! If you like it then go on, I’m not trying to stop anyone from enjoying ideas and possibilities!! But personally I like Bakugou not having any reason to be loud-mouthed and rude, that’s just his personality and how the environment he grew up in made him, and lately I’ve seen the hc used to justify his behaviour more than I like? Bakugou being an asshole is just who he is, and I love it! I love that his life made him like that and I love that he’s working hard to fix that flaw, giving him an external reason, something he has no control over, to justify his personality changes the core of his character too much, and that’s not something I’d ever want to do tbh

And it’s also cool to think that he was somewhat genetically engineered to be better in a fight to compensate for a lack of earing (though again, why only his ears and not his eyes or his sense of tact too), but that goes to cut on all the hard work he put in becoming as good as he is, right? If that’s what you like than who am I to stop you! But Bakugou’s hardworking nature is one of the things I love about him, I don’t really feel like taking away from him all the effort and work he put through the years in becoming as good as he is now

Uh, well, it’s not like I “haven’t considered” doing it, but more than a collage it’s… just how I always draw? Only usually I cut the pics for each of them to be a different image so they’re easier to see, while yesterday I was too lazy to do that and left them all on the same canvas haha so I guess yeah next time I’ll feel like drawing krkm if you’d like I can leave the drawings all in one pic, that’s just less work for me after all lol
