what you’ve got to understand about working conditions in education (and also other care-oriented careers) is that if they’re shit, two things are true at once:
that does not ever excuse being cruel to a kid, no matter what
until those conditions are fixed, education will continue to suck absolute shit
this is because when working conditions for teachers are really bad, many of the good teachers who recognize when they are reaching a point where they can no longer be the sort of teacher the kids deserve due to burnout WILL quit. they will do the responsible thing and go away for their own sake and the sake of the kids. and you end up stuck w a combination of new teachers who are trying their best but won’t last long, burnt out teachers who are trying their best but have nothing left to give and therefore aren’t very effective at actually teaching, and cockroach shitheads who take out their misery on the kids.
we have all had terrible experiences with bad teachers, many of them flat out traumatic, but for fuck’s sake please try to look at the systemic underpinnings of the problem for one minute. spitefully declaring that teachers don’t deserve good working conditions or even the right to complain about bad working conditions because ms. whoever in 5th grade was a bitch is only going to create more of her. if you want good teachers then we need an education system they can survive in
#i get so irritated w the post where like.#95% of it is a good post and then at the end op is like WAAAHHH teachers are complaining about burnout on my post about a bad teacher#like yeah no shit. if the field of education wasnt so hostile to everyone who works in it maybe they could have found a better teacher to#replace that motherfucker with. and then she would not be there to bother the kids any more.#as someone who Has had traumatic experiences w bad teachers.#its scary enough walking into a field i know is pretty much built to chew new teachers up and spit us out#hoping to be able to survive it long enough to do some good and be the kind of teacher i needed as a kid#without people acting as though it is some sort of crime for teachers to want. like. basic human dignity at work and enough money to survive#even people who are nominally pro-workers rights#you guys have no fucking idea how bad the situation is in schools right now#the reason bad teachers didnt get fired perhaps USED to be tenure#but nowadays its the fact that its rare for a school to be fully staffed *at all* bc so many teachers quit or died#so they'll hire and keep absolutely fucking anyone simply because the alternative is No Teacher. and an empty classroom#full of kids who wont learn anything except that the system doesnt even care about them enough to put a teacher in the room.#i have gotten job offers ON SIGHT from principals who know nothing about me and im literally not even legally qualified to teach yet#like before even telling them my name lmao#and im sure everyone else in town who expresses any interest in teaching whatsoever gets the same.

Physically restraining myself from writing an au in which Steve decides, in the summer of '82, that he wants to swim at the 1984 Olympics. He trains at the outdoor pool and his own, and when the school year rolls in he talks to the swim team coach about it. She decides he can probably make it even if he is a bit younger than other swimmers, but he'll have to work hard. Steve goes all in on this in some mix of misguided desire for his father's love (how could a father of an Olympian be disappointed!) and genuine love of the sport. (His events are 100/200 butterfly, 1500 free, and maybe 200 IM?)
Robin needs gym credits. Desperately. The gym teacher talks to the swim coach and agrees that in order to prevent young Robin from accidentally braining herself on the ground, she could be the timekeeper for that Harrington kid trying to first get into the Pan Am games and then the Olympics the next year.
So little baby grade 9 Robin gets paired with newly determined to prove himself as something outside of highschool grade 10 Steve. She immediately starts the "you rule/you suck" board for when he makes/doesn't the PanAm (and later Olympic as I'm preeeety sure they're adjusted yearly?) qualifying times for his events.
Anyways all this to say is that she comes out to him in May of '83 Because he planned on bringing her to Caracas for the games, and she actually really likes him, likes fooling around with him in Mrs. Click's classes and gossiping as they drive to or from practices, but she doesn't think she can pretend around him for very much longer...
Anyways it's fine and they are chaotic besties and Steve places fourth in 100fly, silver in 200, and bronze in 1500fr. Amazing. I'm so proud of my boy.
There's an after party with the younger athletes and Robin, fifteen and out to someone for the first time ever, somehow flirts her way into making out with a girl on the Brazilian gymnastics team who gets her number and she is relentlessly teased by Steve about when he hears they had a little phone date and the Brazilian Gymnast said she can't wait for LA. He talks about this loudly in the school hallway, only saying "Brazilian Gymnast" and when asked why not use his name Steve's like "plausible deniability".
Because of this Robin somehow gets elevated up the social ladder despite being in drama and marching band and arguably being Steve's sidekick. Like really. A student at your small ass school went to Venezuela over the summer, won a silver medal, and his best friend who he brought along made out with a world-class gymnast?? Rumour mill runs wild. Robin is suddenly seen as someone with game instead of someone who is part baby giraffe.
All this to say is that fall of '83 goes two ways:
1) Robin comes to school frazzled on Wednesday morning, completely missing band practice. She asks the swim team if they've seen Steve. They haven't.
Wednesday's are their off day. Robin has band and Steve crosstrains with basketball boys with weightlifting. She bikes to his house and he drives them both to school. That morning, she arrived on time, but Steve didn't answer the door. His car was in the drive and the living room light was on. Robin got her key out and walked through the house. Trying to convince herself she was catastrophizing. She got to the backyard and found the pool cover half on and panics for a half second that Steve fell in and got trapped and drowned by the heavy plastic, but she doesn't see him. Nothing.
She bikes to school. No one's seen him. His parents aren't meant to be back for another week.
At lunch she peddles her way to the police station and demands to file a missing person report.
Jonathan Byers' has a very disturbing picture to develop.
2) a few days after poor little Will Byers goes missing, Steve is driving Robin home after they practiced (Robin finally getting in the pool and doing laps of her own), when they drive by the Byers' house. The lights are flickering and flashing and something is clearly wrong. He slows down, looks over at Robin, and they both get out of the car.
When they ring on the door bell, calling in to see if they need help, what's wrong, they both get Nancy Wheeler pointing a gun in their face.

I’m thinking about corlys because he’s about to commit the fumble of the century with rhaenys and whenever I think about him too much I think about how good of a grandfather he was. You wouldn’t expect it because he was not thrilled about getting gay son and thot daughter but he loved those kids. Idk I feel like in asoiaf media whenever someone is maybe not the best or making bad choices or whatever but god do they love those kids, those are just they could never make me hate you characters
i think a great character to compare against corlys is tywin.... both are strong proud patriarchs who had to work to get to their position (you know. in context.) and are hugely focused on legacy. tywin fucked it all up because to him fear was a legacy maker. but corlys chose awe, not fear. corlys for sure a little disappointed in his kids but he tried to work with what he had he did love them!
and weirdly it seems like tywin loved his wife more, in a pure genuine way. im NOT litigating the corlys/rhaenys relationship im NOT saying he didnt love her cos thats not true but its again an extension of his legacy building. marrying the 'real' heir to the throne, marrying a targaryen, a dragonrider. etc. even his bastards, his shame, continued his legacy.
i think comparing corlys and tywin would be a great exercise (that i dont think im qualified to do), in how they succeeded and failed, in how people perceive them, in what is truth and what is lies. how one builds a legacy and how it destroys you and your family, because corlys destroyed his family too! both his kids dead plus addam, his line only on the throne through daenaera through VAEMOND, his grandsons were bastards, his heir was a bastard who fathered more bastards. just interesting to compare the two!

i don't ship stancy, im mostly indifferent to it, but i really don't get the lengths some anti-stancies, nancy stans (especially the ones that are massively anti steve), or r*nance shippers go to to discredit the stuff that happened in s4
"theyve been broken up for years" theyve been broken up for less than 18 months. Early November 84- late march 86 is about 17 months. Less than a year and a half. That's not long enough to qualify for the plural of "years". Saying that they've been broken up for years makes it seem like steve's in his 20s or 30s and is still pining over 'the one that got away' from high school. not a teenager that still has feelings for someone he's been broken up with for less than two years. its implied that nancy was his first 'serious' relationship. and based on what we know of his dating history post s2, his only serious relationship. its not unusual for there to still be some feelings there.
"steve wants to force nancy to have six kids even though she doesn't want kids/ a family." first nancy never said she didn't want kids/ a family, shes said she doesn't want to turn into her parents. steve never said he wanted nancy to birth six kids for him. he said he had a dream of having five or six kids and that nancy was there beside him. the number of kids doesn't matter. its him saying that he wants kids and to be a present dad. he wants a family and also doesn't want to turn into his parents, as its heavily implied that he's an only child with not great parents. Nancy said his dream sounded nice other than the six kids part. a more manageable number like maybe three kids could be the balance that would work for them.
"steve tried to get nancy to cheat on Jonathan despite knowing she was happy in their relationship." steve confessed his feelings to her in a life or death situation, after shed been showing some signs of being interested. he never said he wanted her to leave jonathan or that he expected her to just jump into his arms. he said he still had feelings for her in a high stress situation. and much of jancy's relationship in s4 doesn't read as happy. they've been together for 16-17 months, and almost half of that they've been in an ldr and they've had communication issues since before jonathan moved away.
sorry for they longs ask this is just something that's bugging me because i keep seeing this in the steve tag
i truly think so many anti stancies just hate steve, and that’s why all of their “explanations” just try to make steve look bad.
like saying it’s been years since they broke up. it’s been about a year and a half! and like you said, it’s pretty much his only serious relationship. according to joe keery, she’s the first girl to really listen to him. and he hasn’t had someone (romantically) like that since. steve was nancy’s first love (again, according to natalia). it wasn’t just some short thing. it was a serious relationship at a very emotional time.
also, i personally doubt that steve’s spent that year just pining for nancy, but they’re in a life and death situation, and i think all those feelings they left behind just came rushing back. they never truly got closure. it’s natural that being together, and fighting side by side and depending on each other would make everything between them come to the surface.
ugh the six kid thing is the bane of my existence (again, people use it to try to make steve seem weird, and pushy, and demanding). it’s so clearly a reference to the party lmao. like you said, nancy never said she doesn’t want kids, she said she doesn’t want to be stuck in a miserable relationship because that’s what everyone expects (which sounds more like s4 jancy tbh). and the crucial part of steve’s confession is that nancy is the most important part. not the kids. not the travelling. but nancy by his side. what matters to steve is that there’s love. which is what’s important to nancy too.
(and yeah. they ain’t having six kids LMAO)
yes!!! can people not confess feelings anymore without being accused of homewrecking two teenagers lol? he never said he wants them broken up. he thinks he may die!!! he wants it off his chest!!! nancy was, imo, the first to start the flirting, and steve figured… why not!
honestly couldn’t have said this all better myself.

Toto is in a pretty hard situation. Next year is way to early for Kimi to go to merc. He is fast and talented that is not a question but he is young and he makes mistakes. And thats fine. Thats what feeder series are for, to develop drivers. But he is not given enough time. Making mistakes in f2 is one thing, making them in merc very different. The social media reception after he finished p14 in his first race were quite brutal. That would be way worse in an f1 team. The drivers are also using social media, Im sure he saw the people making fun of him. That cant be helpful long term.
Toto finally noticed that overhypeing an 18yrs old before his f2 debut wasnt really a good idea.
Announcing him while he is p9 in the f2 championship would be a pretty wild move…
https://www.fiaformula2.com/Latest/5oAWBWT5LJNkTvQFdlQBw5/antonelli-on-his-fast-start-to-f2-working-with-oliver-bearman-and-his-title
All he is talking about in this interview is how much he is learning. Which is good. But putting him on f1 testing while he is still learning f2 is an interesting choise. Its great that he is getting testing opportunities but they are really rushing him. And sure it worked out with max but he was one in a million.
Yes Toto doesnt want to lose an other Max level driver, but he could easily be the one to destroy Kimis carrier by rushing him so much.
Sorry rereading this ask I realised that its quite a mess🫣
Tbh, I half agree on Kimi but i think Toto is the biggest problem facing kimi.
While yes, Kimi is p9 in the championship, he is beating his teammate. Yes Ollie missed Saudi so you could argue he could have won or whatever but realistically, there hasn’t been a chasm between their results that would suggest Ollie would be ahead. Kimi is learning very fast for someone who didn’t have the experience of being in f3 at all. I don’t think it’s that crazy to consider giving him a seat.
BUT. Is Toto the TP he needs as a young driver with next to no experience? In my opinion, no. Apart from the fact that Toto doesn’t develop drivers, and is used to dropping them off at the Williams day care and picking them up when they’re ready, or just picking an already finished driver off the market, Toto makes no allowances for the antics that young drivers come with. Even in 2016 he made no allowances for Max, who wasn’t even HIS driver, to be “getting in the way”. He doesn’t like his drivers complaining or inventing. He doesn’t seem like a team principal who would have the understanding that yeah, a kid is going to end up in a first lap incident sometimes, he is going to fuck up qualifying. He is going to impede someone, and you are going to have to go to the stewards with him and fight for him, and not hang him out to dry when he does something a bit unorthodox. And I don’t think Toto is that guy.
Max was one in a million but he didn’t get there in his own, he had a Christian, Helmut, GP, and Jos, but largely Christian in a professional sense, fighting for him, letting him make his mistakes, and swallowing those fuck ups as part of the cost of putting a kid in a car. I don’t think Max would be the driver he is if he’d gone through Williams and Merc, I think he would have been encouraged to be more conservative and ultimately not developed in the same way. You would rather go over the limit and then come back, than never reach the limit.
I don’t see Kimi reaching his potential if he is under Toto from the beginning. And for that reason I don’t see Merc in 2025 being the best idea for him.
That being said, if Merc weren’t who Merc are, taking 2025 as basically live testing for him before the new regs come in is not a bad idea. If watching F2 this year has taught me one thing, it’s that those races will not adequately prepare you for driving in F1 in terms of speed, strategy, awareness, or a long calendar. A burner year to experience that where no one is expecting much from you in a midfield car is the best gift that could be given to Kimi. But coming from Merc, I don’t know how it will go for him.
As for the social media aspect, all you can hope is that Kimi has a good team around him and that he is consuming as little of it as possible. The way he always focuses on the learning says he is taking the right approach to it so far, but only time will tell. I do think there is a twisted positive in the amount of eyes on him, because most of these guys have no clue the amount of scrutiny they will get once they get to f1 and it’s a baptism of fire. As harsh as it sounds, Kimi being eased into it might not be the worst thing. Especially considering he is already associated with such a high profile team.

dean and cas baby jack endgame is the most delicious thing actually and every time someone says something along the lines of "that's just boring. where is the conflict in domesticity? what would even happen in 200k post finale domestic deancas w jack fic?" im like "EVERYTHING" Dean would have to finally work thru he trauma of having had to become a parent to Sam at such an early age. He would have bad days and feel trapped in the role again but then he'd realise it's not the same as it was because this time he is not doing this alone, Cas is there with him. Dean would try to contain his anger bubbling but occasionally raise his voice at Jack when the kid starts throwing food because for Dean who grew up food insecure that is an unimaginable waste, even if he knows they are well off now. It's just ingrained in him at this point. He would of course feel super bad about these incidents and avoid Cas. Maybe decide to sleep on a couch. See? Another conflict!
And Cas!!!! Cas would have huge moments of self doubt because Jack is a human he is supposed to raise. But is he qualified? He hasn't even been human long enough for this. God what is he supposed to do?? Dean would tell him to calm down because he's doing great and Cas would turn back bitchfaced and say "I don't think you understand what a huge responsibility raising a child is Dean" More conflict!!!!!! Tldr; when you have men (angel?) with issues and throw in a baby the issues become more ... crunchy!!

𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒 -> a few people messaged me saying that they'd like to see a continuation of my previous post with vyn and marius instead, so ofc i'm here to deliver :D<3 to sum it up a little bit for anyone who doesn't want to look back at that post, though, the prompt is a little special -- it asks for a scenario where he catches you pretending to be in his profession with his kid, then also builds to how they fell for you :'D this definitely makes me think though... we just got cards with proposals... so what's next.... wedding cards.... happy family cards.... D: im gonna need to be hospitalised next year if vyn gets a wedding card
Tumblr media
♡ 𝐯𝐲𝐧
-> sometimes, you suspect that vyn knew all of you the moment he laid eyes on you. it's his job to pick people apart, after all -- if not down to the bone, to the heart. and there is certainly no one that knows your heart better.
-> vyn's origin is quite hard to understand. no one knows where exactly he came from, or who he had met along the way. hence, why after partnering on a few cases together, you aren't completely surprised to learn that he fosters a little girl, around 9.
-> he's mostly open about the concept as a whole, though, telling you that while the child is technically related to him by blood, she belongs to a family member in an unfortunate situation.
-> and though you weren't shocked, still, the situation didn't completely sink in until you saw how they interact. the renowned professor and psychologist would drop down to a knee, smiling in an impossible way that reminded you of everything gentle in the world.
-> it was like he had the child's brain in his hands, able to see into every crevice and nook. vyn knew what to say, what to do, what to offer, and did it so patiently. the words not technically mine rang through your head once or twice, but it was obvious that the connection wasn't necessary. in their respective eyes, they were certainly father and daughter
-> perhaps vyn's greater instincts towards you were the reason you could meet her so soon after just getting to know him. but no matter his reasoning, you treasured his trust.
-> the child was beautiful, fairly reminiscent of him with the same golden eyes. and like her father, she took to you quickly. because of this, you began to see vyn frequently outside of work -- though over time, his daughter was present a lot less.
-> you remember one day clearly: you had stopped by vyn's office looking to pick up some files related to a domestic case, when a small head had popped up next to the receptionist as you explained your reasoning for a visit.
-> with the receptionist's permission, the little girl lead you back to where you needed to go, pointing to a general area of cabinets. you teased her about trying to replace her father, to which she puffed out her chest and deepened her voice to say a short line vyn told you often -- patient files are confidential, please be sure to file them properly with the court.
-> you laughed at the big words coming from such a tiny mouth, but egged her on anyways. as you searched through the cabinet, you asked her if she thought she was qualified enough to diagnose you like vyn would.
-> she thinks, giving you a moment of silence, but fills it in quickly by saying that because your hands were shaking, you probably had too much caffiene that morning.
-> you smile to yourself, thinking about the astute way vyn plans his way into conversations like these, where he reveals your opinion entirely without you so much as even noticing the correlation. and though her method doesn't match his, all in all, her diagnosis is correct. you tell her so.
-> "you're a few years of school away from surpassing him entirely." you joke, delighting in her grin at your approval.
-> finally, you find the the citizen's file that you're looking for. but, when you go to grab it, someone catches your wrist. you look up to find vyn, barely able to hold back his smile as he says,
-> "too much caffiene is extremely bad for the body, you know." he says it with thinly veiled amusement, and your heart pounds when you realise that he must've overheard the entire conversation.
-> his daughter though, blissfully unaware of your surprise, giggles and agrees.
-> there are a lot of things about vyn that you're unsure about, and you're positive that you will be for as long as he's uncomfortable revealing them. but for all of his secrets and shortcomings, there is a genuine person beneath it all.
-> he loves you like the air he breathes, and though he is unsure of a lot of things, he has never doubted you.
Tumblr media
♡ 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐬
-> energetic, haughty, and powerful -- all words you've used to describe marious von hagen in the past. and he certainly had no shame in having such a reputation, you could see it in the way he smiled at you.
-> marius always had a right in his confidence, though, because he was everything one should be confident about. he was talented, clever, polite, and even had a successful company to fuel his escapades. at 24, he was what most people dreamed of being.
-> and despite the fact that he was still figuring everything out, you admired his commitment to the things that he loved -- he is genuine and true in everything that catches his eye. you suspect it's why he had been the first to step up to take care of his 13 year old nephew after his brother's disapperance.
-> because if nothing else, marius has a sense of responsibility unlike any other. so much so that you'd nearly mistaken the teenager in his office as his own. after all, being close in the family, the child had the same striking lilac eyes and particular way of narrowing his brows.
-> you remember the day you'd met him like yesterday. while you were expecting to meet marius in the pax building, there for nothing more than a few files and maybe a chat, you were met with a child rather than a man sitting in the president's chair.
-> foolishly, you had even wondered whether or not marius had been shrunk before the door opened behind you.
-> still, it's not like you didn't understand. the situation with marius' brother was unfortunate. it was only natural that he, as the teen's uncle, stepped up to take care of him as austin's wife grieved.
-> though, you found yourself repeatedly trying to clarify that the boy really wasn't marius' anyway. they even shared the same devious smile!
-> you think it was for that reason that you were able to accept the presence of the little boy so quickly. because however annoying you may have found marius on a given day, all of those carefree traits were simply better on a child.
-> marius lamented about this to you, of course. especially when your attention began to gravitate towards the boy whenever marius brought him around. which, of course, he inevitably did a great deal.
-> but you never quite had the heart to tell him that no matter how many sweets you bought, the games you picked out, or days you set aside for his nephew, marius would always be above him in your heart. partly because it was embarrassing to admit so, but also because you weren't completely sure how serious marius' whining was.
-> in truth, while the teenager was no replica, he definitely idolised marius quite a lot. habits, jokes, and even mannerisms were passed quickly between the two of them. and while at first it was only occasionally that you stopped to consider if marius' jealousy was genuine or not, with time, you were forced to visit the possibility more.
-> you think the tipping point for marius was when he visited you at work, fresh flowers in hand to congratulate you on winning a recent case, and the first thing out of your mouth after thanking him was where his nephew was.
-> his jealousy had been completely genuine, you realised. and though you laughed, it took every part of you not to reassure him then and there that some little kid wasn't going to steal his spot in your heart.
-> marius may be truthful and responsible, but when it comes to you, he's stumbling and inexperienced. his young age shows when he pines over how to confess his worries and feelings towards you, but for you to be the one to give him the chance to do so is more powerful than perhaps either of you realise.
-> though it takes time to understand, just as he puts his heart into everything that catches his eye, he will always put his all into you :)

the thing that keeps bugging me about tmagp 16 isnt the overuse of gen z slang. it's that it's internet online slang used wrong. It's not just a matter of vocabulary. If we consider that internet online slang among the youth is a sociolect, then we must admit that it comes with its own rules of usage and grammar, just like other dialects.
It was very egregious with its use of "no cap". Because as far as i can tell from a cursory textual search, "No cap" works pretty much exclusively as a final or starter particle, the way we would use "on god" or "man" as is "Don't do it, man", or "for real" except that "for real" is a bit more flexible about being used in the middle of a sentence. Essentially, "no cap" is always used either at the very beginning or at the very end of the sentence, in a situation where it would be separated from the rest of the sentence by a comma (or, orally, an inhale or a pause) and it is always used as a qualifier that applies to the whole of the sentence and not just one word. It is never used as a qualifying adverb for an adjective, the way "really", as in "i was really tired", can work
You can get:
No cap, I was shook
or
I was shook, no cap.
but you cannot get:
I was no cap shook
[someone] no cap robbing graves
Specifically "[someone] no cap robbing graves" is so weird because "No cap" is used to qualify a statement that you, the speaker, are saying. It means "I swear I'm not lying to you on this". So it's extra weird that she's using it, not only grammatically wrong, but also to qualify reported speech. It makes no sense that she's saying "On the news, there's this whole thing about someone robbing graves, I'm not lying about this" when the news is saying the thing, not her.
There are a lot of other specific issues, like the misuse of "y'all" when talking to a single person or the perplexing use of "finna" for the immediate future instead of the near future or the fact that i can't find any occurrence of "thick and perky" as a locution or just how plain dated "sliding into their dms" is, and i'm not sure "ya [adjective] girl" is in use much with "ya" as possessive adjective ("ya girl" is common, but with an adjective? not so much), but i don't have time to do a corpus analysis on every word in that statement
(also whatever is "Gothdam central". Because i'm a batman fan first and a linguistics enjoyer second, and if A.J. Newall miswrote "Gotham" i may need to have words)
(im not going to talk on the appropriation discourse about the overlap of youth slang and AAVE because that's a issue that's so much bigger)
I KNOW that AJ Newall said that Madam E is a try-hard and that she talks like that as an affectation for her online persona, but she has 1,6 MILLION LIKES. she has 137k followers just on that platform. No one gets that kind of numbers by speaking the local dialect wrong. Her misusing teen slang for clout every other word shouldn't make her popular, it should make her a laughingstock. Madam E is clearly very young (kindergoth indicates young age) and extremely online: even if she wasn't codeswitching seamlessly, she should at least be moderately fluent in internet youth talk, not butchering it constantly
Anyway. This felt much more like an older adult coming across a list of internet teen slang and not bothering to do any further research writing a strawman story to complain about Those Damn Kids Amiright.
It's lazy and it's mean and it's punching down and it's frankly insulting to anyone who speaks a distinct social dialect, because what it means is that AJ Newall, like some sort of boomer parent, thinks that internet (and AAVE) talk, usage, register, grammar, etiquette and inflexion can be boiled down to a simple list of funky vocabulary.
