something else I was thinking was that they didn’t include the full extent of fantine's abject misery and exploitation. in both the musical and movie, she sells what she has and then sells her hair. in the book, her two front teeth are ripped out by a dentist to pay for what she believes to be cosette’s medicine

I want a senseless abuse from Raphael to Tav, preferably on an industrial scale, so here's some dirt. smut
You were told not to make any noise.
You have a new assignment today. He usually likes to listen to your sounds, but now the master needs to focus, honey, don't bother me.Only soft sobs carry through the room or drown in Raphael's skin when you cling to his hand. He is sitting at the head of the bed in his red housecoat, in his other hand he holds an open book, to which all his attention is directed. It seems that he does not follow your efforts at all while you are lying on your side, and Haarlep is attached to you.
He pushes into you lightly, and keeps his hands on your hips. It's too hot between them, too close, but you were told not to make any noise.
In the beginning, you were not good at holding back sounds, but a short adaptation period, a few disapproving comments from the devils and you began to make progress. Haarlep kept bringing you to the edge and it became more difficult.
The sounds of slapping were not in your power, but your breathing near Raphael's skin was too loud. He didn't even see how your beautiful face was distorted, how you squint, frown and squeeze your lips until they turn white. Your little hands diligently hugged his forearm, leaving small crescents on the dense burgundy skin. It hardly brings significant sensations to the devil. Through your efforts, you have erased the entire smell of the rose from this area of the body and you have discovered the real smell of Raphael's skin. It was like that... Is it pleasant? Intoxicating?
A short thought in this little head. Haarlep moves more and more impatiently and the tension becomes pleasant, at the same time making your task of maintaining silence more difficult. The peak of pleasure comes and you do not hold back the scream, which you immediately shyly hide in your own hand. This sound scares you, which makes you shrink even more on Haarlep. A few moments of delay and he comes out of you, quietly chuckling at your reaction. It's empty, but it's definitely easy to keep quiet now.
"Is this decent behavior, master?"
You don't see him behind your back, still stunned by your own failure. But you can clearly imagine him sitting on the bed, playfully tilting his head in his question and waves of contractions rolling along his tail.
"Have a seat"
Raphael says indifferently. You get up, wiping the sweat from your forehead on your hand in parallel, crawling closer to the head of the bed to sit next to him. The mouse is glad to finally close her legs and feel more protected considering the naked lower part of her body. You bring your knees together and even lean on Raphael, leaning your head on his shoulder and ignoring any instincts of self-preservation. Your body and mind craved care and tenderness after such treatment, and this weakness could not be resisted.
"This is not decent behavior at all, little mouse."
The book deftly snapped shut in his hands and fell onto the bed. His somewhat inspired face finally turned to you.
He took you by the chin and turned your face towards him, forcing you to look into his eyes.
"This is no good, you were interfering with your master. In the meantime, I'll have to find another place to read, and you think about your behavior. We'll work on that, won't we, little mouse?"
You could only raise your eyebrows and look at him in fear, knowing that nothing you said would change his plans. You watched helplessly as he left the boudoir and Haarlep waved at you before disappearing into a cloud of sparks.
Left alone again on this big bed, alone with the desire for care and participation, alone with the eerie sounds of hell outside and alone with the frightening green glow and transparent silhouettes of souls in the corridor, from which you were separated by a magical barrier. You would like someone to come to you, no matter how much trouble it costs, but all you could do was get under the thin sheet on the bed and continue to hypnotize the familiar painfully environment

Insomniac Spider-Man X Reader platonic
Tumblr media
AN: Hey Hey again everyone, Like I said in the previous post, I've been binge-playing the Spider-Man games to get ready for October 20th. But I also noticed there was a lack of platonic Insomniac Spider-Man fics so time to change that. This story will be loosely inspired by a conversation I had on character.ai. but other than that let's get into the story. word count: 1.1K
You had recently just moved out of your parent's house and found yourself a nice apartment in the city, the move was tough but you managed to get by, at least this apartment had a kickass view of the city from the fire escape. Looking out into the view, seeing the people walking by minding their own business, you didn't realize you weren't alone.
"Gotta love the view of central park am I right ??"
You jumped with a small fright but your fright immediately turned into awestruck.
"Woah... Spider-Man"
"Citizen of New York at large, sorry if I'm intruding."
"No no your fine, you busy saving the city ??."
"I was a bit before, But now I'm just swinging by, no pun intended. So what's your name anyway ??"
"Y/n"
"So Y/n do you have any questions for me ??"
"Oh boy do I ever !!" you immediately thought of some good questions.
"I'll try and keep it slow and simple, How do you make your webs ??"
"Oh that's simple, I make this formula which makes my webs, and these web shooters on my wrists.." Spider-Man shows you the web shooters. "Help regulate it and guide the webbing into the correct shape, pattern or direction."
"Wow that's so cool."
"It's pretty cool alright, but It's nothing compared to my Spider-Sense. That's a whole different beast, you wanna hear about that too ??"
"Please do tell"
"My Spider-sense is like a sixth sense, It's hard to explain how it works exactly... but when in physical or emotional danger, I get this feeling that somethings.... off"
"Oooh so like if you were about to be punched your spider-sense would tell you to move ??"
"B B bingo"
"That's amazing"
"Thanks, It's honestly just a drop in the bucket compared to my other powers. Superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, durability, agility, balance and endurance."
"I gotta ask too, how did you get bit by the spider that gave your powers ??"
"Well Y/n It's a bit of a long story, But in the short way, while I was doing my research for my college thesis, the class I was in were touring a lab that used this special type of radiation to study spiders and other insects. One reason or another one of the spider's in there escaped and crawled It's way to little ol me. and the rest is history as I say."
"I bet it must've been weird discovering your powers for the first time."
"It definitely was. Having all these new abilities mean I had to adapt and figure out how to control and live with them. But luckily as you see every time, I use these powers for the greater good of this very city i also call home."
"It's showing, you've helped a lot for this city Spider-Man, you really have."
"Thanks Y/n, that means a lot, I want to keep using these powers to help as many people as I can. To me, that's what the responsibility that comes with my power means."
"That's a nice philosophy."
"I have my moments" you could see his mask shift slightly indicating a smile.
Then police sirens were heard off in the distance, indicating It's time for Spider-Man to go.
"Oh duty call's, thanks for this chat Y/n, I hope to see you around again." Spider-Man leaped of the railing and began to swing to the police cars direction.
"Good luck Spider-Man !!" you yelled out, you really hoped to see him again soon.
2 weeks later
Something has happened significantly to Y/n, one day you were helping your uncle move houses so he can be a tad bit closer to his workplace, oscorp. but as you were moving the boxes, you felt something sting at your hand and slapped whatever it was away, a spider... but It didn't look like any spider you read in books. Overtime you noticed strange things happen, you were able to lift more heavy items. you were able to run slightly faster to get to the subway etc. you slowly came to realize that maybe you have been developing the same powers as Spider-Man. He would know... right ??
So the next day you waited for him on the fire escape and surely enough he saw you and landed on the railing.
"Hey Y/n, long time no see. How've you been ??"
"Hey.... I gotta tell you something"
"Sure thing, what's up"
"So.... to make a long story short, I was helping my uncle move and..... I got bit by a spider... and after that I think I've developed the same powers as you"
"Yeah ?? how can you tell ??"
Y/n then looked at the wall behind them and then pressed their fingers on the wall. then slowly beginning to climb up the wall like Spider-Man does.
"Gotcha now.." the eyes of his mask went wide.
"But the strangest thing is theirs this stuff on my wrists" Y/n shows him a almost white clear substance on their wrists.
"Weird.."
But then he had a theory.
"Y/n I want you to look out int the open and do this for me ok ??" Spider-Man showed them a posture to do with their hand, making a rockstar pose with his fingers.
"Ok...." y/n did so and then something came out of their wrists and strung off into the distance. This made Spider-Man excited.
"No way dude you have organic web substances !!"
"Woah..."
Y/n thought they were dreaming, they really were like Spider-man.
"But Y/n, real talk. You can't go flaunting these newfound powers ok ?? as someone once told me with great power comes great responsibility. I live by that every day and I hope you will too."
"Thanks Spider-Man. I'll keep it in my mind."
It was slightly quiet for a bit until you spoke up.
"Spider-Man... I wanna use these powers to help the city like you, I wanna help people. I know I was destined for something on this earth and this is it. Can you help me ??"
Spider-Man did think about it for a slight bit, a crime-fighting buddy and a mentee. This could be fun.
"You got yourself a deal Y/n"
"Awesome !!!"
"But first, Let's come up with a superhero name for you."
"I have a few ideas.."
You were given a gift, a strange powerful gift. One that wasn't meant to be carried away with. But this was your calling, to help those in need. For people to look up to someone when the light seems far away, You have Spider-Man to help you along the way too, He would be an amazing mentor and friend. New York will have two amazing superheroes.

Hold a seminar and tell me all about The Shining
*cracks knuckles*
Let's go.
I'm going to break this down into discussion topics, though some things will overlap juuuuuuuust a leedle. First, we'll go over the plot, then the technical aspects of the movie, followed by themes and analysis, and conclude with all the unhinged raving I can put into words. I'll also try to avoid discussing the book too much because they are different animals (though not as different as some folks make them out to be), and try to keep to the film as much as possible. Continue at your discretion, as this is going to be a Very Long Post and we're going to discuss addiction, alcoholism, murder, suicide, domestic violence, and sexual abuse.
The Plot
youtube
Jack Torrance, would-be writer and recovering alcoholic, takes a job as the winter caretaker at the Overlook Hotel, a resort located in the Rocky Mountains. He moves his wife, Wendy, and young son, Danny, to the isolated hotel during the off season from November to May, looking forward to peace and quiet to help finish his latest writing project. However, Danny has a psychic gift called "shining," and begins to have horrifying visions of the hotel. It doesn't take long before the isolation and the hotel itself start getting their hooks into Jack, and he becomes more and more unstable. Is he losing his mind, or is the Overlook haunted? Are Wendy and Danny trapped with a madman or ghosts? And what does "redrum" mean?
Technical Aspects
The Shining film was adapted from the Stephen King book of the same name by Stanley Kubrick and Diane Johnson, and directed by Stanley Kubrick. And if you know anything about Kubrick, you know he remains one of Thee directors of all time. He was also a grade-A dick hole, but we'll get to that. Filming was done at Elstree Studio in England, with exterior shots done at Glacier National Park in Montana and the Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon.
The first thing you need to know is that there was barely a functioning script the entire time they were filming. After hearing that Kubrick was interested in adapting his book, Stephen King drafted a screenplay himself--and Kubrick discarded it almost immediately. Rewrites were ongoing throughout production, with footage and photographs of Kubrick onset clacking away at his typewriter, and Jack Nicholson (cast as Jack Torrance) is on the record saying he didn't bother looking at the day's pages when they were delivered in the morning because they would be rewritten by the time they started shooting and he'd have to learn the lines again anyway.
Second, you might be tempted to think they filmed in a working hotel, but it's all one ginormous set built to scale on a sound stage. During preproduction, Kubrick sent crew members scouting out different hotels for design inspiration, so the Overlook we see in the film doesn't exist as one unit but a composite of many separate units. In addition to the aforementioned Timberline, the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park served as a starting point for interior designs. The hedge maze that features in the final act was built out of plywood walls and greenery, then covered in rock salt and crushed Styrofoam to make it look snowy. To give the effect of winter sunlight through the hotel windows, lights with a collective wattage of 750,000 to one million per window were used. No wonder part of the set caught fire toward the end of the shoot.
Tumblr media
Why is he laughing, you ask? Well, it might have something to do with the ending of the story. In King's book, the hotel burns down at the end. In Kubrick's script, it's still standing when the movie is over. The set burning down after shooting?
Tumblr media
Third, the cinematography. If I'm ever watching this and lose track of what's happening with the story, it's because I'm ogling what's happening on screen. Kubrick worked as a photographer before he got into film making, and hoo boy, it shows. The shot composition frequently uses one-point perspective and near perfect symmetry, giving us shots like these:

Static images don't do it justice, though, because Stanley was using this newfangled contraption called a Steadycam. Previously, camera operation required dollies and tracks to stand and move, which took time to set up and didn't always flow smoothly. The Steadycam was smaller and lighter, the height could be adjusted much more easily, and could be strapped to the camera operator and allow them to move freely, with the resulting POV feeling more and more like the hotel itself is alive and stalking the occupants.

Also, that carpet? I'm obsessed with it. It's garish and loud and it gives me joy. One of my favorite details is how often chandeliers end up just so in the frame to crown the characters beneath them. Another is the touch (and sometimes more) of red in nearly every frame. Let me also direct your attention to this bit of foreshadowing:
Tumblr media
We cut to this shot immediately after Danny asks head chef Dick Hallorann, who also has the shining, if there is anything bad at the hotel. See those knives hanging above him?
Tumblr media
We gotta talk about the sound design and the score, because this would be a Very Different movie without it. I'm going to split hairs and argue that this film does NOT have a proper score, but it does have a very effective, very nerve-wracking soundtrack. How so? Well, there are exactly two original pieces of music in the entire movie, both written by Wendy Carlos.
If that main theme sounds kinda familiar, it's based on Dies Irae, which is always cool. The rest are all various pieces by composers ranging from Béla Bartók to Krzysztof Penderecki, and are apparently unedited to fit the movie. The pieces chosen just happened to sync almost perfectly. In certain scenes, there are even multiple pieces playing at once, overlaid on top of each other, for an even more discordant, chaotic effect.
And let's not forget the number that proved to me once and for all how cozy-creepy old timey music can be, though it's far from the only old-timey number used:
You can't stress enough how important good sound design is, especially in horror, and this stuff is glorious. *chef kiss* This is a quiet movie except for when it isn't, and the overall stillness gives the noise, when there is any, greater weight. One of the more talked about examples is of Danny riding his tricycle through the hotel, going over hardwood, then carpet, then hardwood, etc. It's the only noise in the scene, and the abrupt switching of the wheels rolling loudly over wood to softly over carpet does so much for the tension. The one that gets me, though, is the sound of the wind. There's a storm outside for the second half of the movie, and if you can hear nothing else in any scene, you can hear it howling. It's lonely, it's dreadful, and it's unforgiving. That detail more than anything else drives home for me that the Torrance family is on their own, at the mercy of the elements and the Overlook.
Probably the only one having a good time on set was Danny Lloyd as Danny Torrance, in one of his only film appearances (though he would cameo years later in the sequel Doctor Sleep). Child labor laws restricted the hours he could work and a lot of effort went into making sure he was never exposed to anything inappropriate or traumatic. As a result, he never even knew he was making a horror movie. The rest of the cast didn't get off so easy, and now we get to the part about Stanley Kubrick being a grade-A dick hole. Notorious for insisting on dozens of takes, he already had a track record of putting his actors through hell while filming, and this shoot is the most infamous of them all. Scatman Crothers (Dick Hallorann), in his seventies by the time filming started, broke down in tears after having to redo a scene over one hundred times. After forty takes of a scene between Dick and Jack, Nicholson had to step in and insist Kubrick move on, as it was getting to be too much for Crothers. As for Nicholson, he was only allowed to eat cheese sandwiches for two weeks to get him in the agitated state Kubrick was aiming for. Worst of all was Shelley Duvall's treatment. By most accounts, Kubrick pushed method acting onto her until she was as stressed and exhausted on set as her portrayal of Wendy is on film. They fought constantly, with Kubrick not only telling her she wasn't convincing enough and she was wasting everyone's time but also forbidding anyone on set from showing her any kind of support or sympathy. Duvall was frequently dehydrated on set after reshooting scenes of her crying so many times she couldn't produce any more tears, and by the time filming wrapped, she was literally losing hair from stress. She gave an interview admitting to hating Kubrick during production, but otherwise respected him.
And now that we've covered the nerdy shit...
Themes and Analysis
Spoilers ahead!
This is a story about the cycles of violence and abuse. That's the basic, easy summary that anyone who watches the movie could give you (well, maybe not... Room 237 exists, after all). Jack Torrance is a man who, while able to put on a charming facade long enough to land a job, has a couple marks against him before the Torrances ever get to the Overlook. As stated above, Jack is an alcoholic* only five months sober after losing his temper in a drunken rage and dislocating Danny's shoulder.
*This is not in any way suggesting that alcoholism is the root of Jack's problems and is to blame for every bad thing that happens. This was the change from the book that King objected to the most, where book!Jack is a decent guy and a sympathetic character who fights tooth and nail to resist the Overlook's power before being overcome. It's not his fault, he has an addiction, etc. Kubrick took that and hucked it out the window. Movie!Jack has the same addiction, but it's never once used as the scapegoat to excuse his behavior. One version is an asshole because that's what the hotel turned him into after exploiting his weaknesses, the other is simply an asshole. Is the hotel manipulating him? Well, yes, because that's what it does, but you never doubt his agency throughout.
During Jack's interview with the hotel manager, we learn a previous caretaker lost his mind over the winter and killed himself and his entire family. So within the first fifteen minutes, we know exactly how this will play out: Jack, who has already abused his son once before, will go crazy and try to kill his family. It's not just that abusive people tend to keep up patterns of abuse, it's also that history generally tends to repeat itself in broad strokes. Jack has hurt Danny before, and he will do it again. A caretaker has slaughtered his family once, and a caretaker to follow will do the same.
Let's talk about this scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can take this to mean a few things. Time doesn't really matter at the Overlook, because everything moves full circle anyway. True, Jack Torrance has only been on the job for about one month at this point, but him being Jack Torrance is less significant than him being the caretaker, and the caretaker has always been the caretaker. He's talking to Delbert Grady, a member of the hotel staff back in the 1920's--NOT Charles Grady, the caretaker who murdered his family, but again, time doesn't matter. It's not about the individual in the role, but the role itself. It only matters as far as Jack's perception is concerned, and Jack thinks he's talking to his predecessor. Crucially, Kubrick breaks the 180-degree rule in this scene.
Tumblr media
The gist of the rule is, to avoid disorienting the viewer, the camera should only move 180° in relation to the characters. Whoever is on the left side of the frame should stay on the left, and vice versa. Jack and Grady, however, occupy both sides of the frame depending on the angle. As far as the viewer is concerned, both men effectively take up the same space. And given that neither time nor identity matter, they both occupy the same roles: each is both murderous caretaker and manipulative force inciting violence. And the cycle continues on.
Now let's cycle (see what I did there?) back to alcoholism. As I said before, Kubrick takes a different approach to it, and anyone who tries to say he cuts down its significance to the plot is clearly not paying attention. Jack is an asshole plain and simple, and Wendy's reaction to the way he berates her for interrupting his writing is indication enough that it's far from the first time he's been verbally abusive. He doesn't need to drink to be a dick. However. He does not become a physical threat until after he starts drinking. He was drunk when he hurt Danny, and it's only once he's been to the hotel bar that he decides to kill his family. That's an important distinction, if you ask me. His habits never serve as an excuse for his behavior, but they are relevant to the danger he poses to Wendy and Danny. Consider, the Overlook lures him in with his favored vice at a moment when he's already under pressure and sobriety is unappealing. He wanders into the Gold Room (in one of my favorite shots of the whole movie, btw), sits down at the bar and says "I'd give anything for a drink. I'd give my goddamn soul for just a glass of beer." Then lo and behold, the Overlook delivers and Lloyd the bartender appears.
Except...the Overlook doesn't quite deliver the way Jack expects it to. He orders bourbon, and Lloyd gives him whiskey. In room 237, he thinks he's found a beautiful young woman who wants to jump his bones, but she's actually an old, rotting corpse. Whatever Jack thinks he's going to get for killing his family, the hotel is never going to pay up. (I guess buddy boy forgot the part where Grady committed suicide after he "corrected" his wife and daughters.) Jack buys into the game without considering he'll never be allowed to walk away from the table. Regardless of what happens to Wendy and Danny, Jack is going to die at the hotel, and the cycle will continue. It's all very Shakespearean...
And speaking of Shakespeare, we've got Hamlet's classic "are the ghosts real or is he just crazy" scenario playing out. You can argue that Danny's visions are just in his imagination, and that Jack is hallucinating all of his encounters. You could even pin Wendy's haunted house trip in the final act on the amount of stress and fear she's having to push through to save herself and her son. Everything is just ambiguous enough that it's almost believable to attribute it to cabin fever induced psychosis. Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, you can't explain away how Jack escaped from a locked pantry on his own, a detail that Kubrick and Johnson got hung up on when writing the script. Kubrick wanted the haunted-or-hallucinating question left up to interpretation as much as possible, but there was no way around it for getting Jack out of a locked room so he could go on his rampage. The ghosts have to be real so Grady can let Jack out. If you're dedicated to the idea that nothing supernatural is happening, it's not hard to ignore it, though. Just ask the folks interviewed for Room 237.
Unhinged Raving
We're almost done! I promise!
Shelley/Wendy Defense Squad
Let's get this out in the open right now: I will fight to the death over Wendy Torrance and Shelley Duvall. No actor deserves to have a performance harassed out of them, no matter what vision the director has. Actually, Duvall got a shitty deal right from the get-go if you factor in that Kubrick cast her because his vision of Wendy was "mousy." Yeah, I get it, his take on Jack would have been incompatible with King's original presentation of Wendy, but really? Mousy? She's beautiful and I won't hear a word otherwise. And I know, I knowwwwww, everybody's a critic, but anyone who can watch her in this and say she's giving a bad performance is clearly not watching the same movie I am, and I'M TALKING TO YOU, STEVE. WE SAW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE IN CHARGE OF ADAPTATIONS OF YOUR OWN WORK, AND IT'S NOT GOOD. (Glad you had fun, tho, good for you, etc etc.) ANYWAY. This movie only works because of her, and I stand by that. Jack is only scary because you can see how afraid Wendy is. The scene with the bat doesn't get me because Jack is menacing. He is, don't get me wrong, but I've seen an angry man yelling at me I don't know how many times, and it's not impressive anymore. But the sheer terror in her face as she tries to back away from him, too scared to let him out of her sight and yet still unwilling to fight back until he gives her no choice? Dude. If that doesn't have me crying for her, then her screaming as Jack breaks down the bathroom door later on does.
Why Room 237 Is A Load Of Horse Shit
I've referenced Room 237 twice, so I might as well talk about it. It's a documentary made around all the various conspiracy theories about the movie. If that sounds interesting, let me save you some brain cells:
1. This movie is about the Holocaust - evidence for this one includes Jack using an Adler typewriter, which was apparently the favored model of the Nazi party, and recurring instances of the number 42, referencing the year 1942.
2. This movie is about how Stanley Kubrick helped the government fake the moon landing - evidence includes Jack ranting about how he signed a contract, the iconic carpet pattern looks like an aerial view of the shuttle launch pads, the noted room number which was changed from the book's 217, and Danny's Apollo 11 sweater.
3. This movie is about the genocide of Native Americans - evidence includes a throwaway line about the Overlook being built over a native burial ground, various iconography used in the hotel's interior, and the color palettes worn by the Torrance family in the third act.
4. This movie is a retelling of the myth of the Minotaur - evidence includes the hotel maze, which doesn't appear in the book, and a poster of a minotaur hanging in the game room.
(These next two aren't in the documentary, but are discussed enough that I'm including them.)
5. This movie is about a parent sexually abusing their child - evidence includes Jack reading a copy of Playgirl in the hotel lobby, Danny's Apollo 11 sweater, and the ghost in the bear costume.
6. This movie is about schizophrenia - evidence includes furniture moving between takes.
Those are the theories, and here is why they're wrong:
1. If Kubrick had wanted to make a movie about the Holocaust, he would have. He'd already done multiple war dramas at this point in his career, so there was nothing stopping him. Multiple typewriters are used throughout the movie, including the Adler model, and they were constantly swapped out to add to the visual disorientation. The number 42 on Danny's jersey is referencing Jackie Robinson, the baseball player. The forty-two cars in the hotel parking lot had nothing to do with Kubrick, as he wasn't even present for the location shots. I'll bet money that Wendy swinging the bat at Jack forty-two times was incidental, given how many times they filmed that scene over and over. And Wendy watching the movie Summer of 42 is likely what inspired the hunt for other 42s to back up the theory.
2. What's important about Danny's sweater is that it looks homemade, therefore it's more emotionally jarring that it gets damaged later. Space and astronauts were popular with kids, so it would make sense for him to have a space sweater. The room number was changed from 217 because the Timberline had a room of that number and, worried that its appearance in a horror movie would drive away guests, requested that it be changed--not because the supposed distance between the earth and the moon is 237,000 miles (it's further, actually, so it's even more wrong).
3. Ever heard of The Amityville Horror? The film had come out a few years prior to this one and plausibly popularized the house-is-haunted-because-burial-ground trope. Kubrick's sense of humor is ironic enough that I have no trouble believing this nonchalant line, from a scene that's missing from Kubrick's favored cut of the movie, no less, is meant to be an ironic jab at this trope. The artwork in the hotel, the interiors of which were inspired by existing hotels in western America, is incidental because it exists in the inspo. And yes, Wendy and Danny wear earth tones while Jack wears red and blue while he's trying his best to kill them, but this is less likely a commentary around the mistreatment of Native Americans at the hands of colonizers and more likely a visual inversion of how everyone was styled at the beginning of the movie.
4. The hedge maze exists because it was easier to pull off than the topiary animals that come to life in the book. The poster that's referenced is a poster of a skier, advertising a ski resort. It could look a little less like a skier and a tiny bit more like a minotaur, I guess, if you squint.
5. Yeah. Sure. Kubrick included a recent (at the time) porno magazine that featured an article about incest on the cover because he knew viewers would one day be able to zoom in on it and identify it and know this movie was about incest. Bears are slightly associated with Danny throughout the movie and he wears a sweater with a phallic shape on it because when you get to the part with a guy in a bear costume giving a blow job, it becomes SO OBVIOUS that this means Jack is molesting his son. Get the fuck out of here. If Kubrick wanted to make a movie about the sexual abuse of a child, he would have. Oh wait, that's right, he had already adapted Lolita, and look how that turned out!
6. CONTINUITY ERRORS, PEOPLE. THE FURNITURE MOVES BECAUSE OF CONTINUITY ERRORS. BARRING THAT, IT ONCE AGAIN CONTRIBUTES TO THE VISUAL DISORIENTATION. "Oh, but Kubrick was a genius, he didn't make mistakes, everything is deliberate" SHUT UP. SHUT THE FUCK UP. IF EVERYONE THINKS YOU'RE A GENIUS, YOU NEVER HAVE TO ADMIT TO A MISTAKE EVER AGAIN. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST ON A CRACKER.
Tumblr media
...anyway.
My Favorite Shots
I'm gonna geek out about these because *chef kiss*
Tumblr media
It's the sudden swing and stop as the camera follows the axe that does it for me. Fun fact #1, that's Kubrick himself behind the camera. The shot was important enough he didn't trust anyone else with it. Fun fact #2, Jack Nicholson was a former volunteer fire fighter, and therefore knew how to break down a door. After he destroyed the prop doors too easily, they had to bring in real ones for him to hack at instead.
Tumblr media
Look at that composition. Something about the way she cries as the axe gets closer, then screams and flails when it "hits" her gives me chills. Fun fact #3, it took three days and sixty doors to film this.
But my number one fave out of the whole movie, as I said before, is Jack's long walk down the hallway to the Gold Room. And I can't find gifs or clips of it ANYWHERE. So let me set the scene for you... On Jack's first visit, we take the journey with him. The camera retreats as he walks forward, waving his arms wildly and yelling at nothing as he passes the mirrors hanging on the walls. The camera reaches the end of the hallway and stops, turning slowly to the open door of the ballroom and landing right on the bar. Jack's second visit, the camera begins at the end of the hallway and waits motionless while Jack approaches.
Why do I love these so much? For most of the movie, the camera represents the hotel itself. It pursues Wendy and Danny, it creeps up on Jack. In another great shot, Jack is in the center of the frame with the elevator, specifically the floor dials that were fashioned to look like eyes, in the background, with the effect of the hotel watching over his shoulder. Here, though, it's active. On the first visit, it's luring him along and steering him to the bar, towards temptation. On the second, it doesn't have to lure him anymore. All it has to do is wait as he gives in to its influence.
IS THAT COOL, OR WHAT??
Jack Torrance, Discomfort Character
The biggest beef I've seen people have with this version of Jack is how unlikable he is compared to the way King wrote him. To which I say, that's kinda the point. He's not supposed to be likeable. He's selfish, arrogant, rude, and temperamental. What he is, is relatable.
No, hold up, stay with me! Think about it! When we meet him, he's putting on a front during his interview. Big smile, positive attitude, and an appropriate answer to every question. If you've ever worked in customer service, you know the routine. I've seen comments about how dismissive he is of Wendy and Danny during the drive to the hotel, but I ask you, how enthusiastic are you after spending over three hours in a car, especially when moving somewhere, especially with a small child? Ever been focused on an important task only to have someone walk over and strike up a conversation? Oh! Oh! Here's a really good one as of 2020! Ever been stuck inside the same house with the same people for days, weeks, months on end?
Now imagine it without any way of communicating with anyone outside of it.
See what I mean? To a degree, you can see where Jack is coming from. He really needs this job, and he'll say what he has to to get it. He's just driven three hours over mountain roads, and now his kid wants food after having skipped breakfast. He's trying to get some work done, and his wife wants to know how the work is going. It's just him and two other people in this enormous, empty hotel, they've only been here one month, and they have to stay another five??? Damn, I think I'd want a drink, too. But as time goes on and he starts losing his grip, you start to draw back. This is going a bit too far. Hey, Jack, she didn't mean any harm, don't yell at her for interrupting you....Jack, maybe your son needs to leave the hotel, he's not doing so great....Jack, your wife is justifiably worried and you need to chill....Jack, stop threatening your wife! Where do you think you're going with that axe? King argued that Kubrick took away the descent into madness that plays out in the book, but I disagree. I think, just like that first walk to the Gold Room, we take the journey with him. It's simply that we remain observers, and it's a little more obvious when he crosses the line.
In other words, he's a good illustration of how your feelings can be valid while the way you act on them puts you very much in the wrong.
Well, that's all well and good, one might say, but why does this movie have you in such a death grip? Why does this character in particular trigger an existential crisis? Easy! I grew up with him! I was raised by an alcoholic whose first response to nearly everything was to snap and yell, who made everyone around him walk on eggshells to avoid setting him off, who only doubled down the more upset about it you became. I know this guy like I know myself, and that's the scariest part about it. You're a product of your environment, after all, and because I can see myself in the man who raised me, I can also see myself in Jack Torrance. The most compelling villains are the ones that ignite a spark of recognition, and the scariest are the ones you could bump into on the street. Jack is familiar and terrifying, and his familiarity makes him all the more frightening. He could be me, he can't be me. He's a cautionary tale, and he reminds me of home.
And if that sounds like a lot to process, just wait until I talk about Doctor Sleep!
And now, we conclude. I hope you learned something, came away with something to think about, or at the very least, I hope you were entertained. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

So I have been writing something on the mahabharata and thought to go through some of the popular media versions for inspiration.
[Instant regret intensifies]
I mean sometimes versions of the same thing might inspire you to do something different, I guess. I mean that was my logic but...hoooo mannn.. these are not different interpretations of the epic, these are like the Adipurush script writers had sold whatever they were smoking to the makers of all the tv versions.
I need brain bleach for atleast ninety percent of them.
I'll tell you what my opinions are (I just need to rant, please bear with me)
The StarPlus Mahabharata:
The Good:
Everyone (almost) looks good. Like casting was top notch. Eye candies walking around. The dialogues were pretty good. Some of their creative liberties hit the spot. It was the nicest version made tbf. And also, the best damned decision, SRJ as Krishna. (Say that again with me)
The Bad:
Inaccuracies galore. Also, stop simping so much on Karna. It looks pathetic. Arjun was charming alright but they managed to cut his badass skills to less than a half. My girl...Subhadra. What the hell did they do to you!!!! I hated how they showed her. The casting, the character arc... bleahhh! Duryodhan looked like a cartoonish villain and had little to no depth and Ashwatthama....whyyyyy *cries*
The RadhaKrishna Mahabharata:
The Bad:
Fucking everything. What was the casting? And why did everyone look so miniature? Except Karna and Bheem.. those dudes looked old. The story was shit. Even with their thousand and one fictional overtures. (What the hell was Krishna doing in Matsya during Virataparvam???). Kunti was a typical sasu mom villain. Arjun was a wimp.
The Good:
Sumedh is funny. And the guy playing Arjun looked like a baby. I wanted to pull his cheeks every time he came on screen (I dunno if that is good or just sweet). The only likeable scene was prolly Drau-Arjun making heart eyes at each other in that Mandir (cute couply moment and the bgscore is likable). Subhadra had some personality.
Sony's Suryaputra Karna :
:)
:)
The makers smoked weed and some combination of technicolour inducing hallucinogenic (most likely sourced from the Adipurush script writers)
:)
:)
WHAT THE EVER LOVING MIND FUCK WAS THAT?
See, I liked SP's Mahabharata's Karna (Aham Sharma.. ahem ahem) because of the creative liberties taken by the makers to make him likable. I didn't mind all of the inaccuracies. But this? THIS?
[*vomit inducing everything*]
The only two good things :- Dury was handsome (eye candy purposes) and Gautam Rode met his wife (can't help being starry eyed over meet cutes).
Karnasangini
See, at this point, I didn't go there expecting any canonical accuracy but just for creative purposes.
Good:
The sets were pretty. These dudes have money and they showed it (very cleverly copying Ek Dil ek Jaan music by changing the lyrics for Karn-Uruvi bgscore, they thought we won't notice, but we did) so everything was eye pleasing. Bhanumati was again... eye candy pretty. Karna himself (Asim Gulati meri jaan), too tragically pretty. I think this Arjun (baby but with beard, lmfao) was also the same guy as Radhakrishna MB.
Bad:
Uruvi (and I swear its not because I can't tolerate Tejaswini). The girl was the most annoying mc to have ever been written. I couldn't feel anything for her. I couldn't understand jack of what she ever did or spoke. The hypocrisy was sky high.
PS:- I would have totally enjoyed watching a version of Karna's life and the Kauravas pov of the mahabharata, had they made it properly (not whitewashing everyone on their side with fucking plaster while turning the Pandavas into cartoony villains.. sigh). Also I think, this one was adapted from the Kavita Kane book.
--------------------------------------------
One liners on the book [because, why not]
Arjun Without A Doubt (Sweety Shinde) :-
Literally ArDi fanfiction straight out of wattpad (just better writing to be completely fair) and the authot hated everyone else except Krishna.
Karna's Wife, The Outcast's Queen (Kavita Kane) :-
Could have been interesting had the writing not been so bad. Cartoony antagonist and protagonists and completely amateurish plot creation.
The Fisher Queen's Dynasty (Kavita Kane):-
I actually liked this one. It was a refreshing take on characters not usually written of.
The Rise of Hastinapur, The Winds of Hastinapur, The Rise of Hastinapur (Sharath Komarraju) :-
I liked his style and his storytelling. Wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea though. The characters are very controversially written. (Also, trilogy on the women of mahabharat.. count me in)
The Palace of Illusions (Chitra Banerjee Divakurni) :-
I had high expectations from her but... it fell flat on its face. This was the worst portrayal of Draupadi I have ever come across, anywhere, across any platforms.
The Amar Chitra Katha comics :-
Some of the most authentic retellings of the epic and I truly enjoyed going through all the individual copies and also the full three set volume they had.
The Song of Draupadi (Ira Mukhoty) :-
I loved this one. Very opinionated and very open to interpretation as well. It was a good read.
PS :- I haven't read any of Devdutt Patnaik's books (tbh I dont like the guy very much, as little as I know him from interviews on the internet) and I want to read Ajaya but haven't got around to it. Any more books that I should check out?
-------------------------------------------
PPS :- All of this has been written from a creative point of view. I did not see any of them for getting to see the actual mahabharata. It was mostly for fun. But now I wish people would make more individual versions of other characters depicting their story (EXCEPT FUCKING KARNA again)

Okay, as you know I just finished Bad Omens, and it was probably the funniest fic I've ever read. THANK YOU for writing this masterpiece.
I adore your sense of humour. Can I ask what inspires, feeds, or fuels it? Because if there is a movie, book, or show you can recommend with more of these vibes, I'm RUNNING to it. I need more of this humour in my life. pronto.
Wishing you well <3
Oh no. You've asked about my favorite topic, I fear. (For anyone else who wants a rambling response from me, feel free to drop the words "Bad Omens" in my ask box.)
Unfunnily, I came by my sense of humor the old-fashioned way—by being fairly ignored as a child. I had a whole comedic routine I'd launch into any time I thought an adult might be about to pay attention. This behavior generally results in either wildly famous adults or extremely annoying ones. I am lucky I have writing to channel it into because I lack basically all the skills to become any sort of performer.
Ok. Obviously, the humor in this fic was mainly inspired by Good Omens. I dissected the book before and during writing to try to get as close as possible to the feel of the original (limited, of course, by the fact that I'm not Neil or Terry). I looked at sentence structure, joke setup and payoff, how and when those narrative asides were used... I remember being amazed by how much of the humor relied on clever adverb usage. Mainly, though, it's the dramatic irony doing the heavy lifting. You swap a muggle for a witch (or the Antichrist for Baby B) and tell the reader you did it, and they're already doing half the work for you. They're ready to laugh. They're bought in. They're spinning up hilarious scenarios in their mind before I've even told the joke (I know this because my comments are full of them).
That's a very long way of saying: I love anything that says "we've set up this absurd scenario, now let's watch it unfold." (Although I don't like when it gets too stressful. That's why the Bad Omens narrator was there to hold your hand through it.)
What We Do in the Shadows is the absolute best for this. Plus classics like In Bruges and Hot Fuzz, both of which I've been casually trying to find a way to adapt into a Dramione for a year now. It's not really the same humor, but I have cried laughing at Veep.
Darker comedies: Fargo and my favorite, Barry. There's an episode in season 2 (ronny/lily) that veers straight off the cliff into surrealism. It's FANTASTIC, and I was absolutely thinking about it when writing the Bad Omens war date. I looooove that feeling of "what the actual fuck am I reading/watching right now?"
And on that note: The Locked Tomb series. Just, please go read it. Join the cult. It's kept me in a book hangover for about two years and I think the only way out is to pass it on to someone else, The Ring-style.
I'll cut myself off here. Thank you for the ask, and for reading and loving my silly little fic. I am first and foremost its #1 fan, and it's just fun to get to talk about it.
(stealth edit because omgggg I can't believe I forgot O Brother, Where Art Thou? Comedic PERFECTION. Couldn't be a Dramione. Snakes buddy comedy, maybe?)

soooo as i suspected i was too busy to do anything fun for my babygirl (jesse) for his birthday (TODAY!!!) and i won't have any time today to do much either since it's cookie baking day BUT i still wanted to share some fun character progress & development stuff w/ him from the last 5-ish years 💞
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
my first ever art of him (2018) -> baby's first cingefail re-design (2019) -> another re-design, pretty close to what i settled on (2022) -> another re-design (mid-2023) -> the same thing only without the scar because i didn't like it & the one i'm sticking with because i love it and i love him (late 2023)
he was originally named james and was my self-insert cis-sona LOL and i already made a post recently about how developing him helped me not be so scared and come into my identity as a trans man (and i made jess trans later on too as a radical act of self-love or whatever) so i won't go into that again. he is my favouritest guy ever truly
i changed his name in 2019 and was workshopping his design until this year actually, i was never really happy with how he looked until recently. i'd never say he's truly a self-insert these days even though i joke about it still hehe.. he's his own guy now but i still like to put a lot of myself in him for old times' sake (my mental illness, love of cooking, etc.). i took a little inspiration for his personality from some of my favourite books; 'white noise' in particular helped me develop this idea of how powerful a narrative it could be for him to have this almost obsessive preoccupation with death.
i want to talk a little bit about 2022 jesse too because he is so very special to me but it's less relevant to who he is as a fallout character. i wanted a death stranding oc and just decided to slot him into that uni too NGJGHFDFG i'll put this bit under a cut since i'm sure not a lot of you are particularly interested in that.
anywayyy thanks for letting me share my guy with you all and thanks for appreciating him <3 and if you don't idk why you read this post but that's fine too i guess 🐜🎒
ok SO his 2022 re-design came from adapting him into the ds universe and even tho this is under a cut it's still SO self-indulgent so i won't get too deep into it. he was like. "evil" i guess? he was with the demens and i paired him off with higgs (they met when they were teens after jess accidentally killed his brother and ran off from his family's preper shelter) but he was still not really into the killing and the terrorism stuff. but. when you love someone and it's toxic yaoi sometimes you overlook things like murder y'know
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he and higgs were linked by a set of chiral rings that higgs made for him. they gave him a sort of healing ability that basically boiled down to him shaving time off of his own life to give to someone else in the form of healing wounds, restoring blood, etc. and that transfer was done thru chiralium. or something. i never really gave that bit too much thought LOL what was most important to me was that he died mid-way through the story of the game and he never crossed the seam because higgs, in some desperate attempt to control death, crudely mummified his body with tar so his body never decomposed or became a bt. so he was kind of. stranded (heh). on the beach. and the pair of them link up again after higgs gets exiled.
maybe i'll share a bit more of this when ds2 comes out and i get to think about him & that world some more but for now that's it ok cool

You're Awful, I Love You: Part 21
Enver Gortash/Trans Male Tiefling Durge
Tumblr media
“Don't look so disappointed, my Dread Executioner. This plan will provide you all the bloodshed you crave, I promise.” Gortash led him to sit down at one of the work benches. “You see, when you showed me your tyrant statue, particularly the crown you designed, it made me think of an artifact I heard about when I was growing up. The man I was...apprenticed...to was obsessed with it. I'll explain it in more detail later, but rest assured, as you told me I am your muse, you've quickly become mine as well.”
Sentry looked up curiously. He wasn't sure he'd ever inspired anything, well, other than fear and silly rumors with his yet unsolved years long murder spree. It felt good, he felt powerful, like he had influence, and more than that, influence over a chosen of Bane. Like puppeting a puppeteer. A smile formed, growing into a toothy grin. “And you say this plan will provide me with plenty of victims...parts...materials?”
“More than you could utilize in a life time.” Gortash sat beside him, reaching for a pen and ink. “Now...shall we?”
Sentry began to fish around in his satchel for the book he'd referenced only to find that Enver had already placed a well read copy on the work table next to the spare parchment. “Hey, you said you only read that in passing.”
“Did I?” He smiled teasingly. “Perhaps compared to some of the other ones, but I must admit, these copper dreadfuls were a comfort while I was growing up.”
Sentry nodded. “Yeah, I know what you mean. Did you read the one about the artificer who creates life from a corpse? I think that one would really speak to you.”
“I did, and you're not wrong.” He nodded, opening the well worn book and beginning to thumb through the pages.
The two sat deep in discussion about what they could learn from the code the killer in the book used and how best to adapt it to their own uses. Hours passed as the discussion shifted between business and their favorite copper dreadful plots. Sentry barely noticed his tail flicking back and forth like an excited dog as the enthusiastic discussion continued well into the early hours of the morning.
Yawning and stretching, The Executioner realized he should probably head home and make sure Fel had properly reanimated as well as deal with the earful he was sure to get from Gabraela for sending him back in the first place (Though really, he had been very clear on the topic of breeding and his thoughts on it.)
“You're sure you won't rest here? You could sleep in my bed while I work.” Gortash offered as he and Sentry climbed the stairs back to the locked room together.
“What, work? You need to sleep too. There is no way you got any kind of rest yesterday before I got here. You're human, your body needs sleep.” The tiefling folded his arms across his chest.
“I do quite well without it most days.” The Tyrant replied dismissively.
Sentry rolled his eyes. “Oh yes, I can tell. You look so well rested all the time.” the sarcasm dripped from his voice.
“At any rate, there should be a gift for you waiting at your temple. The messenger I sent claimed to know the way. Just a little token of affection.” Enver changed the subject as the two reached the window.
Sentry grinned. “Well, I do enjoy gifts. Great change of subject, really.” And he leaned in for a kiss, nipping at his partner's lips affectionately for just a little taste before turning to begin his climb down.
When Sentry arrived home, he found the path to the temple splattered with more blood than usual. Three corpses wearing armor with a serpent emblem were strewn about the path in varying degrees of having been chewed and eaten. A smile crossed his lips, this was certainly a good start to a thoughtful courtship gift.
His expression changed to a gleeful smile that lit up his scarred face when he crossed the threshold to see that Tomi was setting plates of meat down before three large healthy looking gnolls at one of the tables in the common area. The creatures' snouts and claws were matted with blood and they chittered and made those delightful giggling sounds as they sniffed at the offering.
“Oh, welcome back brother dear! I heard a commotion outside the temple and found these darling creatures wandering outside. There was a note on one of those Zhentarim courier corpses and it seems these beauties are to be your new friends.” She explained with a knowing smile. “You must teach me your seduction techniques if this is the kind of gift your plaything gives you.”
“Plaything...yeah...” Sentry managed, walking slowly down to the table and looking over the creatures. “Oh hello, aren't you all so beautiful?” The colors of their fur, the spots where it was falling out. The perfect inspiration to add color to his latest work.

A weird crossover nobody asked for
Ok, I am nearly done with the mutuals stuff but I am taking a break and sketching Freddy. The context may not be as bonkers as what I'm going to tell you all but how I found about this film is literally a story full of casualties and an event let to another and now we are here.
I have zero idea how that even happened but I guess the stars were aligned and it was destiny to make this (IDK how my friends keep inspire me to do this stuff-)
Long text ahead and a bonkers story...twice
TW: for small mentions of gore, scars, and burns
There is no romance in this, and there will be no romantic feelings outside already established couple
Tumblr media
Before we start, some of you intellectuals might go "Phantom/Iva, isn't this Christine from Phantom of the Opera but if she was older?"
(Those who saw the post on Twitter could already tell this is going to be wild-)
And my response is basically:
Tumblr media
That is actually Nancy Thompson from the first "Nightmare on Elm Street" but dressed up as Christine from the POTO. Now, everyone will, might start to put the dots together and go "ARE YOU MAKING A CROSSOVER OF NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET AND PHANTOM OF THE OPERA?!" and realized "Don't...Don't tell me Freddy is the phantom..."
And here is where I step in with the context story and an explanation to all this mess because in technicality, Freddy Krueger was indeed an Erik Destler!!!
Yes. That is a fact.
I am not kidding. Robert Englund was a Phantom but not precisely to the Musical but to the movie...which was more adapted to the book but in all sense is basically the same story but with some changes. Nevertheless, he is a Phantom in my standards and the movie he starred in will appear if you type Freddy Krueger phantom of the opera, or type Freddy Krueger of the opera (but it will lead to different results)
Now, how did I even found about this fact? Here is where the bonkers story and unrelated events led to this. I suggest that you get your popcorn because this is one hella comedic ride. I'll make it into sorta "How the Grinch stole Christmas" narration because why not, this is slowly descending into madness so why not embrace it?
How the hell did I found about this?
Once upon a time, Phantom was in her living room waiting for a ride. They were accompanied by their oldest sister, who had some peculiar film playing around. Phantom got curious and decided to watch as the dumbass kept forgetting her promise to look the name up. Eventually she remembered what she had in mind. She search the name up and it turned out to be a "Stepfather III" movie.
"Wait...that movie has sequels?" Phantom asked herself surprised as she stared at the Wikipedia page.
The movie "Stepfather" was no stranger to our Phantom, because she already heard it before thanks to watching reviews of awful movies all out of her hatred of "Prom night 2008." She did found out that other sequels unrelated to the first one were make and she went.
"Oh that's cool. I guess that is the end of this."
Or so she thought. Eventually she got curious to see if the main actress who played the protagonist had a fruitful career. She did, after Phantom checked the filmography list. Eventually she left the page after giving it a quick scan, but later she returned when she found a familiar name inside.
"Wait....The Phantom of the Opera?" Phantom asked.
Indeed, it was a "Phantom of the opera" movie much to our dear protagonist's delight. She decided to look up the story but obviously not reading the cast name, as this would be foreshadowing for this part of the tail. Eventually her delighted turned into
"What. The. Actual. FU-"
It turned out the story was...well not bad...but clearly mad. It involved time travelling Christines, no broken Chandeliers, immortal Phantoms who sold their sold to Satan, and some guy named Richard who is meant to be Raul. Oh, and I forgot to say Christine's last name is Day now too?
Yeah, the story was bonkers, but Phantom was oddly curious to see what it looked like, so she search it on YouTube. So, she carefully watched the clips and trying to understand what the fidgety fuck was even going on in Phantom of The Opera 1989. So she kept watching and start to realize.
"This Phantom looks familiar?"
So, instead of searching the movie and checking the cast like a normal person would, Phantom decided to read the comments to see what they would say. The first thing that she was:
Tumblr media
(yes, this is a real comment XD)
And then it hit our little Phantom. Robert Englund was an Erik on this peculiar tale, but also obviously someone had to roast Gerald Butler too-
So, Phantom searched up the movie again, and in fact the Original Freddy Krueger was there! Now people would say "but it's the same actor playing two different characters!" Yes, I am aware, but OMG just look at unmasked 1989 phantom and try to tell me otherwise not to mention this phantom wears a wig because he is also bald.
Tumblr media
Now, Phantom is aware both are characters played by the same actor, but since Englund is the OG Krueger, she cannot unsee this now and so will you. Not to mention this Erik is also an immortal being too (i...I guess.)
To end this tale, the movie is hard to find as Phantom have tried but not even Tubi wants this mess and YouTube will recommend you nightmare on elm street as a suggestion, so yes even YouTube agrees
Freddy Krueger is Erik Destler.
The end
(Take this as humor.)
How the hell did I even get the idea to make a crossover? (Surprisingly not a bonkers backstory, but there is no correlation into how the hell did the idea even happened) + Concept!!
Now, how the hell did my mind went "Phantom of the Opera x Nightmare on Elm street 1"? Surprisingly, this is actually a normal story but how I even got there is already weird. Basically, I texted my friend (who also loves POTO) to ask "did you know the OG Freddy was a phantom? and she went "That's interesting and yet Heather langenkamp does look like the OG Christine. So I wouldn't be surprised if the films are connected" (she said this in the sense of similarities of POTO. Not in a ship sense btw.)
So....what did Phantom did?
Make a damn crossover based on that comment because the idea of Erik from 1989 threatening Christine! Nancy via "Go to sleep, angel of music" could not leave their mind. This is all in the sense of a nonromantic story because "eww" and "Nancy in the first film is a teenager" as one would do.
So, now you guys are probably asking "Phantom, are you even ok?"
I'm probably insane at this rate, but let's get down to the rambling about this idea because I swear it's not as fucked up as it sounds like. It is a crazy idea, but I promise Freddy would not be precisely as closer to Erik Destler as a character, but rather more focused on...well himself.
You will see what I mean
How to summarize this bonkers idea?
Somewhat around in the mid 1900s, Frederick Krueger was an inspiring artist who wrote many operas, songs, but found himself wishing for a long-lasting legacy as people aren't fond of his gothic tales. In his desperation, he makes a deal with Satan himself for people to adore his music and for his legacy to remain forever under the curse that Freddy wouldn't die unless he founded a worthy successor to carry out his legacy so he would be remembered.
With this task, Freddy slowly falls into madness and desperation as he becomes a piano teacher at his studio but finds no one of his students worthy to carry out his legacy. So, after a group of teens attempted to steal one of his pieces, he begins a blood rampage as he believes neither of his students are worthy of listening to his songs.
Eventually the parents around Elm Street to get furious and are led by Marge and Donald Thompson to take justice in their hands, so Freddy and his studio is burned down as he swears revenge on their parents and taking away what they love the most. The parents make a pact to keep this a secret, and Marge Thompson starts to rely on drinking to help her cope with the guilt of committing murder, not to mention she also started drinking due to her messy divorce with Ronald (who has becoming protective of their daughter)
After a few years, Nancy Thompson is started to have recurring nightmares of a mysterious man chasing her with intents to murdering her as he claims she's the main actress of his newest Opera (which I don't have a name as for now, but it indeed is about her demise) After she wakes up, she realizes that the injuries in her dream has transferred into reality.
So, after some teenagers mysteriously died in the night. Nancy and her boyfriend Glenn along with their friends Tina and Rod, decide to investigate who is the mysterious Phantom that appears in their dreams and is trying to trap them in his Opera House of Horrors as they embody the main characters of his most recent play with Nancy playing the lead role (who intends to have the goriest death in his play)
What changes did I make into this au?
The biggest change is that the Phantom is NOT in love with Christine (Nancy) but rather knows she is the daughter of the duo that led to his murder, so he will want to give her the worst fate possible. I do think about implementing some aspects of what I read from the third movie by having Nancy having some control of her nightmares, which could lead to Freddy finally finding the Protégée he was trying to find for so long which would add to a dynamic of Freddy trying to convince Nancy to join him in exchange to protect what she loves the most but with the catch that she'll follow Freddy's footsteps. (Still, the only romance would be just between Nancy and Glenn as they are already an established couple)
The other change, is obviously Freddy Krueger's backstory, which is a merge within his original story and Erik's backstory of the 1989 film. I wanted to play with the whole Opera aspect of well...the phantom of the opera but also Freddy's nightmare nature from the original films. So Freddy's main and latest story is a reflection in his death as a human and how he intends to kill the legacy of those who claim it, which would explain why Nancy would be played as the main lead.
I did change Freddy's nature as he is more like an under dead creature that has a physical form in people's dreams and nightmares and can shake shift, but his form would reflect his burns he, and of course the opera house would be based on his abandoned studio.
Also Freddy Krueger's appearance will be based into Erik's appearance as I actually love to take on the Phantom's mask on this. I won't spoil a bit but it does add to the thriller aspects of the 1989 POTO film. You can search for the clip that contains his backstory, so you guys can see what his mask actually is. I will eventually reveal it later when I finish his sketches. Anyways, Freddy would hide his burns with his clothes and other ways 1989 Erik hides his appearance in the film
Would this be correlated to the Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise?
Most likely no. I am mostly familiarized with the original Nightmare on Elm Street 1, and this is precisely the only film in the crossover that I would be referencing too. I might do some small nods to the franchise as some small Easter eggs, but please keep in mind that this crossover will be treating both stories as a Stand-alone film as this version of Freddy is not the same as the Freddy from the franchise.
If you have questions, curiosities, or simply want to ask me "why, phantom, why?" Ask box is open for y'all.
I'll try to get the mutual's drawing by tomorrow and maybe the Phantom Krueger sketches too.

Keon & Javier (Part 3)
In the last part, Javier said that he often prayed, even if he is not a believer. He prayed for good weather, a good fishing catch and often against loneliness. Now comes the sequel.
Tumblr media
“against loneliness? Praying doesn't help with that... I'm a lone wolf now and can no longer wish for my family back from God. I don't even know where I'm supposed to go. This island here..."/ ", as I said, you can learn to adapt, there's plenty of fish, the vegetables are always fresh... And when the moon is full again, you'd better think carefully about what you do"/ "say not to me, but to my inner beast.”
Tumblr media
Suddenly a gurgling sound was heard, followed by an agonized deep squeak. „oh, hehe“/ "Excuse me, please. But it's been almost two days since my last meal, I had fasted before I wanted to go hunting. But unfortunately that didn't work out yesterday"/ "I can make you something to eat, but it won't be fish today, the weather isn't playing ball"/ "that's okay, something to keep things quiet in there again," Keon looked down and held his stomach.
Tumblr media
While Javier prepared something to eat, Keon looked around. “You paint pictures…”/“Yes, more or less. But I prefer to bang on a large block of wood or a block of stone and create a few works of art out of it. When I paint, I often lack inspiration... And motivation too... It was just an attempt, again"/"Can I finish it?"/"Uh, can you even paint?"/"I can do a lot of things"/" well, okay If you want".
Tumblr media
Keon stood at the easel and began to finish the picture of Javier. “I'll probably try it here for a few days first. And I'll get an idea of what the wildlife population is like here"/"I'll tell you right now, you'll be disappointed, but... That shouldn't stop you from staying here."
Tumblr media
“I’m done…”/ “What, already? I haven't even got the food off the oven yet." Javier glanced back over his shoulder and paused for a moment. “You were quick… And you even added a few clear lines”/ “I said yes… I can do a lot of things. That smells very good”/“the spices make up everything, the rest is just corn, corn flour and water, a nice, tasty mush, but it fills you up”.
Tumblr media
“Here, I know it looks like you've eaten before, but it's really better than nothing. And about fasting... As a wolf, you shouldn't do something like that. Because once he's really hungry, there's no control anymore"/"I've often wished I didn't have him, but rather that I was a normal man"/"You're a normal man, Keon, and... Here , take".
Tumblr media
Javier definitely believes in other beings. He has already read many books about mystical and mythical figures. There were some books that could be saved, and there were also other useful reading materials. But the fantasy stories often inspired him very much. But there was never any mention of werewolves there. Curiosity is greater than anything else at the moment - he would like to see him in his wolf form. But what will Keon's nature be like then?
Tumblr media
Keon tries to organize his own thoughts. He still has the terrible events clearly in his head. Professional hunters who stormed his village and murdered everyone but him in cold blood. He was able to escape, but at some point he was pushed into a corner, or rather the cliff, so that there was no turning back for him.
Tumblr media
"Is the weather always this bad here? It's been hailing non-stop since I woke up"/ "well, it's actually summer, normally the sun shines for many hours every day. But it shouldn't be a bad sign"/ "maybe I've brought bad karma with me to the island"/ "I'll show you everything here tomorrow"/ "I'm sure people will be surprised at me"/ "you're not the first castaway here".
Tumblr media
"I didn't come with a ship…"/ "I know that, but the others don't. So you should think carefully about what you say. You're my… roommate now. You went overboard somewhere and floated on the water for days. You must be a fast swimmer, otherwise you wouldn't have come so far in such a short time. We don't know where the next island or the next mainland is."/ "I've lost my bearings too …"
Tumblr media
“the orientation… I've lost mine too, or let's say… I want to go in a certain direction, but I don't know… if it's right to go where I want to go"/ "and where do you want to go, Javier? If I were stuck here as long as you are… I would have strong wishes at some point"/"hh, I have them, but they are difficult to implement"
Tumblr media
“You started praying… Then pray for them to come true”/ “I do that… Every night before I go to sleep. I just never had the feeling that it would do anything, but this morning...I experienced a miracle...I saw how you found your way back to life on your own."/ "That was a miracle for you? Then just wait until the next full moon.”
Tumblr media
In fact, there has never been so much hail here before. Maybe for a few hours, but not the whole day. “And I…should really sleep in your bed?”/ “Sure, I don’t mind sleeping out here in the living room. I often couldn’t make it to bed…”/ “Well, okay… thanks”/ “not for that…”.

What were your inspirations for fae AU? It’s the first fae thing that every held my attention, so to me everything you did was crazy out of the blue original lol! Not to say that I don’t think your work was original—I really, really enjoyed it to the degree I amped up my efforts to get friends to play AA so they could read it and talk about it with me lol—but I write too so I know the best stuff is riffing on other stuff u know? And I want to trace the lineage so to speak I’m fascinated.
You made your friends play Ace Attorney so you could share my fanfic with them? I am incredibly flattered!
The Fae AU is really weird foundationally because I was not deeply into fae stuff when I started writing it. I dashed off the first chapters riding solely on the "fae and lawyers are alike because they can't lie" joke, which.... probably was put into my head off a tumblr post or something. Tumblr has its own minor love affair with the fae. (Elsewhere University is definitely baked into the DNA of the Fae AU, I know that for sure. The vibe in that comic where you're not always sure where regular college weirdness crosses over to magical weirdness - love that.)
But once I sat down to actually start crafting lore, I did basically the same thing I did when I was writing stories with werewolves and vampires in high school - what I like to do, with those folklore creatures that have long histories in folklore and pop culture, is to toss all the pop culture knowledge out of my head and start my research from the ground up. Then I just read until I find stuff that makes my brain itch. It doesn't have to be deep research, I'm not writing a paper, but I'll read Wikipedia and follow some citations from there, read a couple books, these sorts of rabbit holes are fun for me.
A lot of the Fae AU lore about fairies really does just come from it being an Ace Attorney adaptation, though. Curses as they are come from me looking at the games like, "yeah, our protagonists keep stumbling into crime scenes because this is a mystery game and we need to have some crimes, and they can't start every case with a client just walking into the office and asking for our help, that'll be boring if they repeat it too often, BUT while this is a genre convention that doesn't need to be explained what if I did explain it with fae magic?"
I'd probably have ended up crafting very different fae lore if I'd been writing a fae AU about any other series - Ace Attorney weirdness really helped shape the series and its fae into what they are.

How did Basil create the mirror I cannot be teased like this
WONDERFUL QUESTION THANK YOU FOR ASKING
this is already getting long so im gonna put it under a read more LOL
allow me to give some context and talk about basil even more than ive been asked for regarding basils origins! for starters, basil originates from The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, named after none other than Basil Hallward from the novel. In the original, it's heavily implied (honestly it's just text its not even subtext please go read picture of dorian gray its wonderful) that basil is absolutely in love and head over heels for the titular dorian, and paints the titular picture of said titular dorian. now (spoilers for a 150 year old book) this portrait basil painted is... pretty odd, and either because of the amount of himself and his love for dorian that he put into the portrait OR because of a wish dorian made that he would always stay young and beautiful, the portrait winds up looking more old and cruel etc etc as dorian goes down his path of depravity etc etc. basil had made many portraits of dorian before this, but none quite as successful (he'd tried to paint his muse in other styles, but this portrait in particular came about when he finally tried painting dorian exactly as he is), and none of his later portraits were as enchanting either. more things happen to basil later on in the book, but i'll leave that for another post because then i'd have to get into some content warnings because it gets A Little Fucked Up.
so! how does this translate into the world of project moon and specifically limbus company, you ask? great question!
essentially, basil is consistently putting too much of both himself and his subject into all of his paintings. i'm stretching the worldbuilding a little bit here so its not Really super canon compliant, but we know that abnormalities dont just come from people, they can be made like the tool abnormalities! so essentially, in his quest to create this perfect portrait of dorian, basil inadvertently created a few other abnormalities along the way. this includes the Portrait of Another World we find in Lobotomy Corporation, which could in itself have initially been inspired by the same novel that basil is from!
the limbus!dorian to go with my basil is... considerably fucked up in a lot of ways, in particular how he interacts with basil, so while basil was painting dorian their conversations wandered in sometimes pretty messed up directions. while painting the portrait of another world, they discussed what it would be like to never feel pain and never suffer hardship, and basil (a little more down-to-earth than the then-naive dorian) understood that suffering would never really go away, it would just be someone else suffering. that idea is where the portrait of another world started getting its abnormality characteristics, and the reason that the painting is unfinished - and therefore open for people to put themselves into, as we see in lobotomy corporation - is because basil would up growing too upset with the topic (thanks to some needling from lord henry wotton, who i havent yet discussed but the characters im adapting from the novel for basils canto need a whole post of their own) and never actually wound up painting dorian into the portrait. which is probably pretty good, because then we'd have TWO abnormality paintings centered around dorian, and frankly he's gotten way too much power from just the one.
all in all, it's probably for the best that basil quit painting, even if he still doesn't know quite the extent of what he accidentally created.

Im curious for the show in how theyll take inspiration from source material here. Like I think I will enjoy it knowing its not meant to be an exact adaption- though Im curious how they will handle Claudia with the actress being a grown person (or really all of them being aged up) Or Louis with his arcs of guilt and repression- when this time he starts owning a bunch of brothels and maybe has a past male lover? Im curious tho optimistic
I'm kind of confused bc this ask isn't a question? I can also only answer these to the best of my knowledge bc I'm not one of the show runners, I'm just some guy 😂
But if you are asking why I support the show and it's changes I'll say that I personally hated being a teenager and in this version Claudia will be 13. I think that is plenty young enough to feel stuck in one's body, which is Claudia's main issue. The show runners have said child labor laws were a reason they cast someone who was legally an adult but I think Durst was the only possible youngest Claudia. She was 12 and already an accomplished actress when she took the role, I read that Neil Jordan wanted a trained child actor since it's such a hard role for a kid to play an adult. The behind the scenes in my dvd copy Durnst even says at the time she didn't really understand what her character Claudia was going through, looking back as an adult made it make sense, so I'm guessing she probably had good stage direction for Jordan or other crew. So at the end of the day, I think to have someone reasonably play a character who is mentally an adult they needed to cast someone older. We haven't gotten a lot of images of Claudia but it looks like from the 2 we have she is still a "child".
I also kind of feel like comments that Bailey Bass is too old are rooted in racist stereotypes. Black girls get seen as "older" and "sexual" much sooner than white girls. Some of what I have seen ppl say about Bailey Bass has really disgusted me. I don't think you should be commenting on this girl's body parts, even if she is "legally an adult". She is still leagues younger than the ppl I see commenting on her body.
For the other characters I also prefer for them to be older. Lestat not having a fully formed prefrontal cortex might explain a lot of his bullshit but I also agree with others in saying that AR consistently saying the most attractive men alive are 21 (and later 20 and then 19) and her harping on how attractive Armand is (who looks 17) sounds more like a fetish than realistic. It's an old post by a friend, now @hedonisticgene but it was his old blog I think, said "Have you ever met the college kid who thinks he's a sex god? That's Lestat". So I do think making the characters older will make them seem attractive and charming and also have ppl not inquire too much about their lives be realistic.
As for the brothel it has the potential to be as morally repugnant as Louis having been a slave owner. I think fanon and late canon woobifies Louis so much that his general weak moral backbone is often ignored. Remember in the book IWTV Louis does not object to kill humans "bc it's wrong morally" but bc he thought it was an aesthetic experience he should work his way up to. He also describes his slaves in some awful ways, so I don't really think brothel owner is out of the question. And when it comes to Louis's repressed sexuality, well wouldn't it be the best cover, if you are gay and don't want others to know, to own a brothel. I am aware some ppl read Louis as bi while others (myself included) see him as gay. I also read IWTV as the interpretation that Louis's struggle to come to terms with vampirism is his struggle to come to terms with his sexuality. And Louis doesn't shy from telling us he went to whorehouses or that he maybe had feelings for Babette. What he shies away from is admitting his feelings for Lestat. So I think Louis being repressed has more to do with internalized homophobia than sex in general. So I feel like surrounding yourself with a whole bunch of hot women would be the best way to be "I'm totally straight! Look how straight I am!" 😂
I have my reservations about the show like any fan. These books (well the first three) mean so much to be I'll be devastated if this show sucks. But honestly for me it's not in these kind of small details, to me what matters is the character dynamic. That's what I love, and as long as this show scratches my brain the same way the books do I'll be happy.

Getting Back Into Writing...
I know I've been gone a while, but I don't plan on making any grand speech or introductions. I've considered closing this account multiple times since I don't know if anyone still reads my content or uses this platform. Nonetheless it's 2024 and I'm still here.
I started blogging on Tumblr as a hobby and because I really enjoyed writing. I still love writing! Writing on here acted as a journal for me, something that I could use to look back on years from now. Since I started writing with the intention of doing it for myself, I will continue to do so. I am glad to be back and will try my best to stay consistent. At the same time, I also don't want to force myself to write just for writings' sake. Instead, I'll write when I feel most inspired.
I had this idea of doing a "movie watchlist" based on my opinion of course. I wanted this list to be here for me in the future so I could see if my taste in movies has changed, matured or anything at all. Over the years I've watched a bunch of movies that I've enjoyed for different reasons. Movies were one good source of entertainment for me and my family growing up and brought me lots of fond memories. I remember being so excited to go to the video shop and pick out some of my favorites to rent and then going back home & watching it with my family. Dad and I would go to the video store and browse, sometimes taking longer than expected. I'd spend time looking at the covers reading the synopsis on the back before choosing anything. I was so proud when I picked something decent that everyone liked, I'd brag and say I had good taste! Those were the simple times when life was easy.
I digress, getting back to this list of mine. Let's just call it "Rivers' ultimate watchlist" for now. Like I said before this will be a random list of movies in no particular order from horror, comedy, romance, adventure, sci-fi and everything else in between. You might not know all of these movies or even like them but if you do find yourself bored and wondering what to watch, give it a try. I am sure you will find at least one good gem worth your time! I think I might do the same list for anime, kdrama, tv series and animated films later on and possibly update this movie list and add more titles.
Tumblr media
Here's the list: ⦁ Harry Potter 2001 1-7 (The first four movies were among my faves) ⦁ Thirteen Ghosts 2001 (I don't know why but I've always liked this one) ⦁ Darkness Falls 2003 (A horror movie about the tooth fairy. This one will scare your kids.) ⦁ The Exorcist 1973 (The first one is still the scariest of all time. I also liked Exorcist: The Beginning but these are flicks I don't want to watch repeatedly or at night.) ⦁ Resident Evil 2002 (Yes, I know it's a video game adaptation and not everyone likes it. The very first one is a classic. I've also seen all the other movies in the franchise multiple times mostly because I like zombie action and Milla Jovovich) ⦁ Without a Paddle 2004 (A great comedy full of laughs. Definitely a fun watch in my opinion) ⦁ Euro Trip 2004 ("Scotty doesn't know!" "This isn't where I parked my car". I still remember the lyrics to the song. This one is a bit raunchy but in a good way if that makes sense.) ⦁ Me, Myself and Irene 2000 (Jim Carrey is great and so is Renée Zellweger. I really liked this one. Watch with an open mind) ⦁ Alien 1979 by Ridley Scott (I can't believe some people still haven't seen this. I love aliens and this one is a certified classic. You just have to see it for yourself. I've seen all the movies in the franchise and I'm still a fan after all these years. I'd happily rewatch any time.) ⦁ Blade 1988 1-3 (Ah vampires what can I say, I do love my supernatural movies! I think Wesley Snipes totally embodied Blade and was perfect for the role. I only recently found out that there's an animated version which features more of the lore from the comic books. The action in this movie is too good to pass on. In fact, my mom loved it so much she named our dog Blade) ⦁ Terminator 1984 (The second one is my favorite out of all the Terminator films, but I still enjoyed watching the others. There's just something about man versus machine that keeps you glued to your screen, that and Arnold Swarzenegger. ⦁ Zathura : A Space Adventure 2005 (I loved it! It's a kids movie but it's still a good) ⦁ Predator 1987 (Tying into the whole Alien vs Predator universe I naturally had to watch this. Prey is the most recently released movie in the franchise, do not skip this one!) ⦁ RV 2006 (Robin Williams is so funny, great family movie to watch together on movie night! ⦁ Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events 2004 (Some might say it's depressing, but the cast are brilliant actors and I thought it was a very clever film.) ⦁ Serenity 2005 (I didn't even know there was a show called Firefly linked to this movie. I only found out years later) ⦁ Pan's Labyrinth 2005 (Dark, twisted and brilliant but definitely not meant for everyone! This is a Spanish movie by Guillermo del Toro and still one of my faves. Please watch it with subtitles and not in dub. Also see Pacific Rim from the same director if you haven't watched it yet) ⦁ Jurassic Park 1993 1-3 (What can I say, I love dinos! The original will always be my favorite.) ⦁ Because of Winn Dixie 2005 (Great family film. Wholesome and heartwarming) ⦁ Dreamcatcher 2003 (This movie freaked me out as a kid, especially the toilet scene. I also heard there's a book so I might have to read it eventually) ⦁ Apocalypto 2006 (A really great film by Mel Gibson. If you can handle brutality, give it a try. It's definitely not for the faint of heart) ⦁ The Descent 2005 (If you're claustrophobic this movie will be your worst nightmare) ⦁ A Sound of Thunder 2005 (When I was young, I thought this movie had a really interesting concept.) ⦁ The Cave 2005 (It's similar to The Descent. It has that element of fear, the unknown and of course a mysterious creature) ⦁ Wonder 2017 (A really beautiful film with a great message) ⦁ Billie Elliot 2000 (The ending was so great! And I love the soundtrack because of Elton John. My favorite song from the movie was "electricity".)
(P.S I will be posting this in two parts because this was way longer than I expected!!)

9KMovies | The best entertainment center for everyone!
Tumblr media
I've only seen the 1945 version
Ten people are invited to a small villa on an island and killed one by one according to a poem written in each room. The actors (in alphabetical order) are Douglas Booth, Charles Dance, Mav Dermody, Burn Gorman, Anna Maxwell Martin, Sam Neill, Miranda Richardson, Toby Stephens, Noah Taylor and Aidan Turner. I only watched the 1945 version, I was very disappointed, and it didn't even match the tone and plot of the novel.
The first half hour starts out very slow
This is the first film adaptation in recent years to be set in the present day, so the tone is certainly darker, and the film has an excellent cast. Even the characters who die first have good names and are well characterized, so when they die suddenly, it feels like they died too soon. The movie is about three hours long, but the first half hour starts out very slow. I was looking forward to the deaths, and when they start, it's also very good and progresses very slowly, but at that point, I didn't like the movie.
The film is tense, tried and tested
I agree that a film needs time to focus, but in this case, I found the film dragged and I tried to wait for as much blood as possible. Later on, the tension slowly and gently builds and it's quite interesting, but it should have started earlier. This is one of the two problems that ruined my viewing experience; I'll mention the other one later because it would be a spoiler. The only thing that bothered me a bit, but didn't stop me from enjoying it, was the emphasis on sexuality in the story, because I know it has to be! However, everything was rated PG-13, so a quick click of the remote was harmless.
The adaptations were cleverly based on the novel.
We reserve the right to disappoint. People don't seem to realize that Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" is 100% perfect as is, and that the best way to do that is to adapt it as faithfully as possible to another medium and avoid the temptation to add a "twist" or whatever. This adaptation is best because you end up experimenting, not adding your own ideas, but trying to add and change as little as possible. This adaptation makes excellent use of the inspiration of the novel and perfectly captures the horror of the mystery. The film allows for a disturbing, sometimes graphic and always impressive visual style.
His work was downright epic drama!
The acting is excellent and very sincere, and when the script needs to be adapted, it does its job perfectly. It's a shame that the film is short and not an "epic drama", as it takes patience and interest to watch, but I wouldn't have minded if the beginning of the film had been longer. The film is not perfect, but its flaws can be counted on one hand, and I like to think that this is the true (and first) definitive adaptation of Christie's work. Now, a few words about spoilers. As for the actors, I was impressed with Douglas Booth, who played a troubled character, and Anna Maxwell Martin, who was so impressive she was almost unrecognizable
There was also No, the best entertainment center ever
I'm going to start with a spoiler-free review, and I might add spoilers at the end. If you don't know the story, don't look for spoilers, I recommend reading the book before watching the movie adaptation. As we all know, books are always better. However, the new three-hour BBC miniseries comes very close.
I have only seen the 1945 version
Ten people are invited to a small villa on an island and killed one by one according to a poem written in each room. The actors (in alphabetical order) are Douglas Booth, Charles Dance, Mav Dermody, Burn Gorman, Anna Maxwell Martin, Sam Neill, Miranda Richardson, Toby Stephens, Noah Taylor and Aidan Turner. I only watched the 1945 version, I was very disappointed, and it didn't even match the tone and plot of the novel
The first half hour starts out very slow
This is the first film adaptation set in the present day in recent yearsThe other one I was looking forward to seeing. He is followed by Sam Neill, Noah Taylor and Miranda Richardson, who make up the first half of the film. All the characters are fully developed, but the other five are even more so. The Doctor, played by Toby Stevens, and Inspector Blore, played by Burn Gorman, defined their characters very well, whereas in the book they never stood out for me. Of all the characters, Vera (Maeve Dermody) and Lumbard (Aiden Turner) were the ones I was most looking forward to meeting. And another character I was looking forward to seeing, Charles Dance, impressed me with his casual indifference-when he could-but unfortunately his character made the worst mistake of the series.
Other actors who impressed me.
Turner was Lumbard inside and out: a perfect choice. Dermody was the only player I hadn't seen before, and both he and the other players impressed me. I also liked the fact that more attention was paid to these two, which allowed us to get closer to them before they died. The scene with the two of them on the beach and Vera shooting Lubbard was my favorite scene in the book, and I liked the way it was portrayed here.
The highlight of the whole production.
It was so intense, terrifying and tragic that it was perfect and the highlight of the entire production. filmyzilla is a new free entertainment portal where you can download Bollywood and Hollywood movies in high quality. Vera has to return to her room, where she finds a trap waiting for her and voluntarily hangs herself. The book explains it all in the epilogue. But this is where the adaptation makes its biggest mistake.
Refrence
