My new meds are great bc I am creating like mad like I haven't since, like, 2022. But they come with the pretty, pretty not good side effect of believing I am annoying all of my irl friends and tumblr mutuals at all times. Like I know that it's (probably) not true but what kind of sick imposter syndrome ????

Photograph, alone, dance, prison (from the latest prompt post)
Gentle music, and the clamoring of soldiers.
Another extermination beaten back, though not without difficulty. The Exorcists had learned from their mistakes, that throwing themselves against the shield of the Damned Legions was to invite defeat, to subject themselves to the culling that they so wished to visit upon the people that the Fallen protected so fiercely.
They attacked from multiple entry points now, holy portals opening up to disgorge countless individual strike teams of exorcists upon Pride. The Legions were many, but they could not be everywhere at once. Split into Contubernia, rapid response teams dispatched from where they staged at the palace to intercept the invaders. The legionaries swiftly dispatched the Exorcists where they met, and the toll was so diminished still from what it would be if the soldiers were not there at all, but it was still heavier than they liked.
Still. A victory was a victory, and the men and women of the Damned Legions laughed and drank and raised toasts to those dead that they had known.
Michael had not joined into the merriment. The Sword of Lucifer remained in his bedchambers, alone, listening to the din of celebration that echoed in the halls of their garrison.
His helmet found its place upon his armor rack, the last piece that left him relieved of the angelic steel that he seemed to live in, leaving the Praetor clad in only his breeches and tunic as he unbuckled his sword belt. Light glinted from the sheath, and he paused. Took hold of it in his hand, looked at it closely.
You will be My sword. Father had told him, when he coalesced in the darkness of nothingness. You will be My shield. You will be the protector of My Creation.
Father had given Michael many gifts. He had been gifted strength beyond his brothers. He had been gifted swiftness and intelligence. He had been gifted with discernment and tactical prowess.
But those things had been inherent. A part of his being.
This blade I have made for you. Ever sharp. Ever faithful. With it, you shall strike down the wicked, and empower the righteous. With it, you shall humble the strong, and keep safe the weak.
It had been Fathers final gift. A little bit of Creation, of His untold power, His eternal craftsmanship. Just for him.
But he had failed. He had failed his brother, he had failed his men, he had failed humanity.
He had failed Father.
So why had it not been taken from him? Why, even as it hewed through the angels sent against the damned, as it cut down those sent in Heavens name, was it ever sharp, and ever faithful?
“Is it mockery?”
His voice was not directed to the sword, or even to himself. So quiet that even he could barely hear himself. His head tilted back, deep gray eyes looking beyond the ceiling, toward the darkened sky he knew was beyond.
“Did I not do everything You asked? When wickedness rose, did I not strike it down? When the righteous stood, did I not bolster them?”
His grip tightened upon the scabbard, his knuckles whitening, the finely-wrought leather creaking in his grasp.
“When the strong became defiant, did I not humble them before you? When the weak were threatened, did I not raise my blade in their defense? All in Your name? Answer me.”
The demand left him in a fearful whisper. The whisper of a child who feared being struck. The seconds passed, turned to minutes, as he strained his ears to hear. Strained his eyes to see.
The scabbard dropped from his hands, the leather and metal clattering against the stonework of the floor, the din enormous in the quiet that filled the room.
“ANSWER ME!”
The words ripped from his throat with a painful angularity, as though he was choking up shards of glass. His voice cracked, but the dam was broken.
“I DID EVERYTHING YOU WANTED! FOR WHAT? TO BE CAST ASIDE?”
His hands curled into fists at his side, his fingernails digging into calloused palms. He felt them slice into his skin, felt ichor ooze down his fingers and drip from his knuckles and into the cracks in the floor. It glowed white even now, a reminder of what he was, how far he’d fallen.
“HE MADE A MISTAKE! DID HE DESERVE TO DIE FOR IT? WAS THAT WHAT I WAS MADE FOR, FATHER? TO KILL MY OWN BROTHER FOR A MISTAKE?”
His voice shook the walls, rattled his armor upon the rack, and tears burned hateful streams down his cheek, a deluge that he could not hope to stop, wetting his neck and collar.
“THEY LIED! THE COUNCIL LIED, THE STRONG MADE ARROGANT, WHAT YOU MADE ME TO TAKE TO TASK! BUT WHEN I WENT TO HUMBLE THEM, TO DO MY DUTY, I WAS STRIPPED OF EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING!”
The last word left him, and with it his strength. Michaels legs buckled beneath him, his knees unable to support him, his anger sapping him of even the will to stand. He did not try to rise again. Instead, the Sword of Lucifer curled in upon himself, wrapping his arms around his knees and hugging them to his chest, his breath shuddering.
“I gave you everything I had. I gave you all I could.”
He whimpered softly, his lip trembling, his tears mixing with the droplets of his blood upon the floor. The floor was cold, everything was so cold, and he shivered endlessly as he wept.
“I am sorry, Father. I didn’t mean it. I’m so sorry. Forgive me.”
He wanted to sing with Sandalphon in the gardens. He wanted to spar with Gabriel as his men looked on. He wanted to laugh as Lucifer shared with him his newest creations. He wanted Lute to wrap her arms around his waist, joy dancing in her eyes as she smiled up at him wryly.
He wanted to go home.
The sky was silent.

I have finished my rewrite of Road To Nowhere.
The first three chapters were edited the most. The later chapters didn't change much, I just fixed some inconsistencies and typos (and probably created some new ones lol)
I'm currently working on chapter seven. My goal is to finish it this week! That may be a lofty goal considering life is stressful and I'm a slow writer, but... we'll see how it goes.
I feel guilty about taking an entire year to update this fic. I get these weird mental hang-ups that just paralyze me when it comes to productivity. But re-writing the early chapters and playing the full version of BG3 helped a lot. It's kind of hard to write a story if I'm not sure where it's going, and I always wanted Road To Nowhere to be a retelling of the game through the eyes of the characters.

i think i have this tendency to forget how long my fics actually are sometimes lol. like from my perspective, I'm just telling the story that's in my head, with however many words or chapters that requires
and then one of my online friends sees my work and is like 'excuse me wtf these are books'

“Butterfly exhibit is this way.”
You felt Shouto’s cold hand begin to tug you gently in the direction where the special, limited-access, exhibit was being hosted within the Nature Museum you were currently strolling in; a gentle smile formed as he looked down at your sweet face. You couldn’t even make it a full step before your hand was grabbed again, tugging you back as you stumbled ungraciously into a sturdy chest
“Yeah, but the night-blooming flowers are being shown this way” Shinsou’s calm voice immediately calmed you down as your tense shoulder’s relaxed as you let out a sigh of relief.
“Maybe so, but she wanted to see the butterflies. Didn’t you, my love?” Shouto countered, gently tugging you once more back onto your feet and towards him; hand brushing your cheek as he cooed down at you.
“Yes, she did.” Shinsou agreed, though his grip was still tight enough to stop Shouto from running away with you “But she also said she wanted to see the Moonflowers.”
“We can see both” You interrupted, voice soft as to try and stop any scene that may unfold “We can see the moonflowers first, then the butterflies because they’ll lead to the rest of the museum, okay?”
You beamed happily at the nods of approval, feeling their grips on your hands slacken as they allowed you to take the lead and drag them off to where you wanted to go.
After all, it was your day of spoiling; an idea proposed by both of them a week ago after they noticed your excitement when you read a news article about the special ‘spring-themed’ exhibits that were coming to the city - and how could they even think of not going when they say your eyes sparkle as you read to them what was going to be there?
Though, they seemed to have a problem with sharing when it came to you on a date. Not that they hated the idea, not at all, they wouldn’t be in the arrangement if they hadn’t. It was just…. you were too precious and they couldn’t help but want to be the reason you smile - this was, after all, the third little spat you had to break up since arriving. But, you couldn’t help but feel special over the attention, you always did.
“And after, we can go for ice cream!” You exclaimed, tugging them along even faster as you saw the “Night-Flower’ exhibit sign.
“Sounds like a good idea to me” and “A perfect way to end the day” they both mumbled out with adoration in their eyes as they watched you being authentically you.

So Action Comics #1050 came out this week, and I'm genuinely excited to see what this new era of Superfam has in store. How they handled Clark and Jon getting their secret identities back made a lot more sense than anything I guessed at. But there is one thing about it that made me raise an eyebrow. Well...not specifically the plot but something Bruce says in reaction to the new development, and in turn how Clark responds to it.
Tumblr media
So... this exchange bugs me. Not necessarily because I think its absolutely untrue but it does feel confusing, unearned and lacking nuance.
This was something that was getting a decent amount of focus in the comics around this time, especially since the public had picture evidence of Lois kissing Superman. Lois and Clark even had a conversation about it in the Lois Lane mini
For starters, way back when Clark revealed his identity during the Bendis run, it was heavily implied that his secret's effect on Lois and her character was one of the reasons he did it. Like Clark and Lois are historically really bad at avoiding PDA when Clark is all suped up; which has led to rumors and speculation that Lois is having an affair. Of course, the public doesn't know that she's cheating on her husband...with her husband.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah Clark isn't thrilled about it, Lois is too busy to really focus on it, plus she's used to the double standard. But the general public not fully appreciating Lois Lane for the work she does and just focusing on her connection to Superman is nothing new.
Secondly, I just don't buy Clark saying they didn't expect that to happen. Look at this scene from the Superman: Heroes special
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This isn't a perfect scene. Bendis seems to completely forget that them getting caught kissing in public was something that Clark was very aware about and that they had discussed it (admittedly the discussion was in a mini written by Greg Rucka, not him so I'll take it easy on him for now. But he was the one who wrote about the kiss and the picture). But it is clear that this is something they have thought a lot about and discussed. Clark warns her that this is going to greatly impact their marriage but Lois knows the risks and tells him to go for it anyways. So Clark saying that his public identity's effect on how the public views his wife is a surprise? That doesn't really seem to track.
I can understand Bruce saying what he did, he's not going to know about the intimate conversations Clark and Lois have in private, but Clark should've given some push back on that statement instead of just accepting it as a simple truth.
Lastly, (and this is probably the most nitpicky point in a nitpicky post about 2 panels) this line of dialogue bugs me because since Superman's identity was exposed, Lois has really not gotten that much focus. More specifically, the effects of Clark's decision on her life and public persona have not really had much focus. Now I'm by no means saying she's not been an important part of Superman comics since then, she's absolutely been present. But being present and being the focus are not the same thing. After Clark's identity was exposed there were definitely plot seeds placed that could have developed into us seeing the effects of this new normal on Lois but we really didn't ever see them reach fruition. We basically new she was writing a book, and we knew she received a lot of mail from people around the world asking for help (once again, from Superman: Heroes)
After Bendis' run ended Phillip Kennedy Johnson took over Action Comics. His run has been something I have been thoroughly enjoying but due to the plot taking Clark off world, Lois has not really had much presence. She's a consistent supporting character in Jon's comic but again, presence is not focus.
Now I really liked this detail...but we never saw it go anywhere. If I recall correctly this is both the first and the last time this massive pile of letters is brought up. But despite it's lack of importance on the canon it does just so happen to imply that Lois was not simply "reduced to being the wife of Superman."
But I still really feel that despite the briefness of this scene, it rang hollow. Definitely a misstep.
Which is why I feel Bruce's comment and Clark's response is just not an earned one from the writing team. We've really seen no evidence that the public has just started viewing Lois as Superman's wife. But we've also seen very little evidence that the public hasn't. This clearly hasn't been a point or priority for the comics to prove, so we have to take Bruce's words at face value. But considering the comics haven't taken the time to focus on Lois...do the writers really get to blame the fictional public for not focusing on Lois?
It's obviously a lot more complicated than focus on Lois = good and no focus on Lois = bad (although I am always going to be excited when Lois' gets attention). PKJ's run has been fantastic and, despite Lois' lack of attention, I do get the impression that he understands how important she is the Superman mythos. To his credit, and the rest of the writers working on Superfam comics, it does seem like Lois is going to get more focus in the Dawn of DC era. Powergirl also looks like she'll be getting more attention too. And I'm truly excited for that. I don't have the highest hopes in DC has a whole right now but I am really looking forward to the Superfam titles.

Chapter 6 is finally up! Sorry for that long hiatus. 😅 In this chapter, Teri helps Saaltar move out of his motel room and bumps into her father's old college friend, Minos Alastore, who just happens to be the innkeeper where Saaltar was staying. After moving out, Teri takes Saaltar to her aunt's boutique. But to her chagrin, her aunt can't help herself but flirt.
Stay tuned for Chapter 7 where Teri moves Saaltar into her father's old room and shows him all of her father's beloved star maps and gadgets. There will also be smut again. 😏😉 And Saaltar learns what happens to his alien body when exposed to water.

"A story doesn't need a theme in order to be good" I'm only saying this once but a theme isn't some secret coded message an author weaves into a piece so that your English teacher can talk about Death or Family. A theme is a summary of an idea in the work. If the story is "Susan went grocery shopping and saw a weird bird" then it might have themes like 'birds don't belong in grocery stores' or 'nature is interesting and worth paying attention to' or 'small things can be worth hearing about.' Those could be the themes of the work. It doesn't matter if the author intended them or not, because reading is collaborative and the text gets its meaning from the reader (this is what "death of the author" means).
Every work has themes in it, and not just the ones your teachers made you read in high school. Stories that are bad or clearly not intended to have deep messages still have themes. It is inherent in being a story. All stories have themes, even if those themes are shallow, because stories are sentences connected together for the purpose of expressing ideas, and ideas are all that themes are.
