Like, this man did not spend his ENTIRE FUCKING CAREER playing almost exclusively openly queer or heavily, heavily coded queer characters to be treated like this??? In fucking 2023??????? He got better, more queer happy endings in the 80s and 2000s, the fuck?

I think it's incredibly telling that David felt like he had to hide what he was doing with Iz' character arc from Con till it was too late in filming. Hey, hey David? What did you think he was gonna do if he knew beforehand what was happening?? David? David do you think he would've walked? Do you think he would've used his leverage both as the fan favorite and integral part of the story to demand BETTER from you and everyone else writing the show?

Con has been making queer art since the fucking 80s when he was in his 20s. He has openly talked about trans rights and the fight against homophobia that we have been fighting for years and decades. I can't imagine what kind of push back he had to deal with to get all the gay shit he was doing to come to fruition. I can guarantee that at least part of the reason he doesn't have as big of a career as he absolutely deserves is because of how openly queer he has been since the start. I think if Con had been allowed to have some input in the direction of Izzy's character that something like this wouldn't have happened, at least not this messily and uncompassionate.

I legit can't imagine how fucked he must've felt after being given the genuinely very beautiful Unicorn scene and then be casually taken aside and told "lolol anyway Izzy is gonna die now, without love and without the acceptance he had already been given". But at least he was given a cuddle????

Anyway watch Dancin' Thru The Dark. Its on YouTube and it's about an openly genderqueer/bi man who goes on a sad but fun music adventure and it's actually really really good. Con sings and its a fucking bop AND he doesn't die at the end or watch Bedrooms And Hallways, it's a fun romcom about a found family of all queer people doing stupid gay shit. Also you can see Hugo Weaving's entire dick and balls in one scene and if that's not better gay rep then ofmd s2 then idk what is

Disappointed and Disgusted with Bridgerton "fans"

Of all the fandoms I am a part of, filled with criminals, murderers, vampires, demons, and all sorts of other morally grey (dark grey at best) characters, some how the most toxic and offensive one is for a regency romance that was designed to be diverse and inclusive. No where else do I see such blatant racism, body shaming, homophobia and general disrespect for not just the characters but the cast as well. As is it is ever alright to talk about people you don't even know that way, they have the audacity to go so far as to tag them. What has to be broken inside you to behave this way? Make it make sense!

That last bit was obvious dramatic sarcasm. Don't be foolish enough to bring your hate speech here. I Will Not Tolerate It!

Fanfic Self-Rec Challenge 

(yes, I’m calling this a challenge for myself because for a number of reasons, this type of thing is very difficult for me!)

@ziskandra tagged me last week to rec five of my own fics (and @blarrghe, I think your tag was for ‘recent’ fics, which these are mostly not, but I’m tagging you back anyway!). My first reaction was to laugh and say (to no one), “HA! I DON’T EVEN HAVE FIVE FINISHED FICS!” but it turns out I actually do have quite a few that are done or at least done enough to rec, and from more than just Dragon Age (though still mostly DA)! 

Here are five of my favorites:

1. The Benefits of Sleeping with a Witch (Explicit, 2 chapters, 4496 words)

Prompted weird and smutty off-shoot of my Morrigan/Blackwall long fic The Witch & The Warden that didn’t quite fit the tone or story arc, but was really fun to write. Blackwall gives Morrigan some lotus blossoms...Morrigan makes hallucinogenic tea...and turns into a dragon...and takes Blackwall on a fun sexy ride into the sky...(mind the tags!)

2. Generosity & Hubris (Teen-Mature, 6 very short one-shots, 6978 words)

I’m cheating...this is technically a ‘series’ of Merrill/Isabela one-shots on AO3 but they’re all connected, and in chronological order. Mostly from Merrill’s POV which is a very affirming place to write from...lol.

3. Chokedamp and Feelings (Explicit, 5 chapters, 15476 words)

I love this fic. I love these two old men (Stroud/Loghain...Stroghainoff...yes that’s the ship name and since it’s mine I get to name it!). I love all the weird Warden-ey goodness this fic inspired me to elaborate on in the most awkwardly horny ways. I love all the other fics and one-shots this one has inspired...I just love this cast so much.

4. Old Wound (Mature, one-shot, 1529 words)

Castlevania’s immortal wives, Striga and Morana, reflecting on their first sexy meet-horror...I love them, and their happily ever after. Writing them also sends me down lots of fun cultural-historical rabbit holes.

5. New Names (General, one-shot, 456 words)

The only Our Flag Means Death fic that I’ve dared to post on AO3...it’s very silly. Ed and Stede, reunited and having somehow worked through all their issues...revisit their plan to runaway together.

When you think about it, the implication that, in this version, Rosaly's family was killed by Hector's own Devils is chilling. Hector here seems to be considering the possibility.

Of course, it's not certain that it was him. It could have been Isaac. They most likely attacked so many villages that they all blur together. It took time for Hector to even realize the extent of the harm they were causing.

How the hell do you even admit something like that?

This is honestly something I wish both prequels had the time/courage to tackle. It's one thing to believe to be a demon because you were born with creepy powers: that's easy to dispel. How about being an instrument of mass slaughter? How about maybe causing the death of the loved ones of the woman who is selflessly helping you? Is it more forgivable if you had been groomed as a boy to believe it was just to pay eye for an eye because humans are hateful creatures? Is it more forgivable if you are genuinely remorseful and trying your best to turn a new page and repent?

Is it dishonest to keep the truth to yourself, or would admitting your sins cause nothing more than unnecessary pain?

I don't blame the other manga for going with a much simpler backstory of "my adoptive parents died of natural causes, so I'd like for you to live with me". Hell, in that version, Hector was waiting for the other shoe to drop, he wanted Rosaly to ask him about his past! This is some complex moral stuff that probably shouldn't have been relegated to a throwaway panel. Then again, perhaps it's better than feeding the reader a shallow lesson...
