i've seen a lot of people talk about mcyt as a constantly burning library of alexandria recently, and to some extent that's true. people are constantly deleting their blogs, going scorched earth with animatics, fanfics, etc., that they made. but i've also seen people (three in the last few days!) make this claim about VODs, when talking about large fandoms like DSMP and QSMP, and.... guys. that was true in 2020. that's not true anymore. archivists have been working tirelessly for years now to make sure that isn't true.
the dsmp VOD masterlist is here. in november 2020, it's missing 16 VODs, if i am counting correctly--which is still a fairly small minority, but it's a lot, and it sucks!--but in november of 2021, it's missing one, and that's because the cc of that VOD does copyright takedowns, not because the archivists didn't save it. no one in the archivist project is deleting VODs off youtube with no backups the way people are deleting fanfics. three months ago, one of my dsmp archivist friends finished coding a tool that let them reconstruct VODs out of twitch clips, and reconstructed six tubbo dsmp VODs from 2020. not only are we basically not losing VODs anymore, we are actively gaining VODs that have been lost for years, that were thought to be lost forever. the library isn't burning anymore; it's being rebuilt.
the qsmp VOD masterlist is here. it is usually a month or two behind the present day, to give creators time to archive their own VODs, but... look at it. in january of 2024, every single qsmp vod was archived. the same is true of december of 2023, and november, and the vast majority of months for the past year.
i'm not going to say that there isn't a problem. just a few days ago, i realized that a lifesteal VOD from last year was missing--that its youtube upload was messed up somehow, and no one noticed and it wasn't mirrored on the internet archive and the person who uploaded it deleted the original file. and now it's gone forever. this made me super sad! like i said: i'm not going to say that there isn't a problem.
but... look at the lifesteal VOD masterlist here. lifesteal's a smaller fandom than qsmp or dsmp. open the 2022 tab and you'll see months and months of lost VODs, of no one's VODs being saved, because there weren't any archivists saving them. then open the 2023 tab and see: they lost four VODs, over the course of a year. even in smaller fandoms, archivists are working. they're making progress. they're saving VODs. in 2024, lifesteal archivists screenrecorded five streams on tumblr live to make sure they would not become lost media. mcyt may be a constantly burning library of alexandria, but the people with fire extinguishers are dedicated. they're making incredible progress. i know people with petabytes of VODs saved, who have spent money on extra storage for this. i know people who are constantly running up against their storage limits as they download/upload to the internet archive/delete for space/rinse and repeat. a decent fraction of the time, my internet at home is slow because it's downloading VODs.
and these aren't the only mcyt fandoms with archiving projects! the outsiders smp VOD masterlist is here. origins smp VOD masterlist is here. smp earth VOD masterlist is here. rats smp VOD masterlist is here. there are so many others that i just don't happen to know about. the older and smaller a fandom is, the more likely it is to not have an attached archiving project, or for the archive to be missing a lot of VODs. but... guys, we've saved a lot. there are people out there, working tirelessly to save even more. yes, mourn what we have lost--the archivists i know are also the ones mourning the most for the VODs that are, in fact, forever lost media. but don't dismiss how much people have saved. we are making progress. we are losing less and less every month. the vast majority of the dsmp and qsmp still exist, i am not going to say they're the same experience as watching live because they're really not, but.. they're out there. people have put in a lot of work to save them.
if you have publicly available VOD masterlists or other mcyt archiving projects that aren't on this post, please add them in a reblog. i want this post to serve as a reference for how much archivists have saved in this community; unfortunately, i'm not super connected to every community. but i know that--for every person deleting things, there are people working, tirelessly & with little external reward, in so many different mcyt fandoms, to save things. and we should appreciate that more often.

Alright then! MSo, Ninjago is a TV show that basically was made as a way to get parents to buy toys for their kids back in 2011. It has evolved beyond that, but that was the reasoning for it being created. It has a pretty medium sized fandom, probably a bit bigger than keeper.
It’s basic plot is that it follows a group of ninja with elemental powers that help defeat supernatural enemies. One such instance is when they face up against an evil genie creature.
There are two main characters who are important to the story: Lloyd, who is the green ninja, and Kai who is the red ninja. They are often depicted as being very brotherly and that’s what a lot of the fandom sees them as.
A little while ago, there was an account on Tumblr dedicated to running a bracket tournament on the best red and green duo. Obviously, Lloyd and Kai were put on it by a few different people, myself included.
It went pretty normal for the first round, where Kai and Lloyd won against Red Guy and Duck from Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.
However, the normalcy was soon be over. Because in the next round, Ninja was up against Mario and Luigi. And I am pretty sure I don’t need to explain to you that Mario and Luigi are a very popular duo.
So the Ninjago community decided to come together to take down the popular duo. A few people @ a few different bug Ninjago blogs, which brought the poll into more people’s view. And the discord server for the most popular Ninjago fanfic shared a link, so it definitely was in people’s eye.
We almost lost, but we managed to eek out a win against the Mario and Luigi. To commemorate the occasion some people drew fanart. But the war wasn’t over yet.
The next battle for Ninjago was against Phineas and Ferb, one of the most iconic duos in cartoon history. But we were prepared.
Once again we all banded together and we managed to defeat Phineas and Ferb, this time in a landslide.
We only had one more opponent: Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. The Ninjago community knew that if we won this, then we could get at least some bragging rights that we won a popularity contest (even if we committed voter fraud.)
It was a fairly intense battle. We all shared link with each other in order to make sure we all had voted. Also, I may or may not have gotten some of my friends outside of the Ninjago community to vote for Lloyd and Kai.
Finally, it all came to a close. On March 2, Lloyd and Kai won, 64.7% to 34.3%. It took voter fraud, campaigning and a whole of working together but we done it. We won a popularity contest.
I am definitely not doing the story justice whatsoever, but if you want to see the polls, they were on redandgreenpoll tumblr.

back to your story: wow! you're right, you don't need to explain to me how popular those other duos are or how impressive it is that you beat them. I 100% believe you when you say it was voter fraud because those franchises are popular. i suppose ninjago is popular enough that I vaguely know about it's existence, but still! congrats to you all on your victory and all the bragging rights you now have :)

Lumie
This was a tough choice but my favourite has to be Lumie! From her character design, she seemed intimidating and distant. So when we first get dialogue with her, I was pleasantly surprised! Her potential character conflicts, the way she immediately took Nine under her wing, and her Ancient costume made me fall so hard for her. I’m so excited to see how the writers will develop her character as the story goes on!

This guy originally struck me as a flat cliche character, but I loved him nonetheless. Until he started wondering if his dedication to Lord is really loyalty, obsession, or just something that happened because of pure chance. And then that basically had me pacing around asking myself what the difference between a loyalty and cult-like behaviour is. Basically I like the dilemma added to his character arc. Just recently I got midway through extreme mode, to that part of the story, and it made me like him more than I already did.
Somehow a genius at riddles????

Fire Rashad was the first time I considered making an in-app purchase tbh. I love him so much, maybe it’s because we both share similar personality traits and I relate to him on a spiritual level. Man’s a walking meme, I swear. I almost died laughing when he put his hands together like that dude in the trade offer meme. Sorry there’s no deep reason for me to like Rashad. It’s just that this guy made me temporarily forget I’m asexual so he deserves a spot in my top three.

1. When are you usually online?
Um... in random intervals. However I am trying to be online more often. No schedule has been set as of yet.
2. What verses are you involved in?
AU wise? The only AU I’m involved in really is Genshin Impact. Mainly because the majority of my mutuals either play genshin muses or have genshin verses. The brainrot is real.
3. What is your biggest RP pet peeve?
Spam liking a post just to get the OP’s attention. Or spam following a blog of interest to get the owner’s attention. Like, we can see that you follow us. But we can also see who’s desperate for attention on the media. There’s a notification tag for a reason. Spamming my phone’s notifications with that method will get you blocked, no exceptions. If you want attention so badly make a “hot take” on twitter dot com and put your phone off silent.
...Anti-Rant wise, please don’t spam my notifications, especially personal blogs. It really messes up our reply drive.
4. Are you drawn to specific types of muses?
Honestly? Depending on the personality of the writer, I’m practically drawn to any muse. I’ll be honest that at first I was a little intimidated by the muses that express dark themes, merely because they’re very brave to explore such things ( including looking into irl looks of those themes ). But the more I’ve written in my entire life, the more I grow to become more confident in writing said themes. So like, anyone with dark themes or light themes is welcome in my book as long as you, the writer, isn’t being a piece of shit on the internet.
5. Are there reoccurring themes in your writing that people might not notice?
If there are reoccurring themes in my writing that isn’t noticed by the people, then those reoccurring themes aren’t noticed by me either. :D
6. What are your favourite RP trends?
Not intentionally copying the answer of the previous poster, but carrds look so pretty?? A majority of my mutuals create them with the most simplest yet badass aesthetic ever. I tried creating a carrd once but it’s just so complicated. Call me Techitis for nothing :’D.
7. What is your process for starting a new story with someone?
The first thing I look into is the personality of the other character, and see how it meshes with the personality of my character. This also applies to starting a new story with my own characters. The second thing I do is ask whatever is on their mind when it comes to interacting with my character, cause sometimes, they blow my mind with the potentialities that I never would have thought of. Basically, I explore the minds of other people through conversation and attempt to make those thoughts into reality, through writing. It’s a process..
8. How do you feel about duplicates?
Once again, not intentionally copying the answer of the previous poster, Resse is an OC of mine. I created her out of nowhere and I grew a heavy liking to her. Steal my concepts and I’ll steal your braincells. Steal the reference sheet/look my commission artist drew for me with pure dedication and exceptional prowess, I’ll break your fingers. But, I have always wanted to write with other muses with a detective aesthetic/base to see how they interact with Resse. So like, general detective muses are fine. But no Resse Harris 2.0s, okay?
9. How long have you been involved in roleplaying?
Ever siiiiiince 2015? Wow, it’s been a while. My first official RP blog was a fandomless OC that has been lost to the abyss. Kinda want to bring him back but at the same time I’m already suffocating in the amount of OCs I made throughout the years. God help me.
10. Is there a muse or verse you could write in, but haven’t?
Canon muse wise? My brain only runs on OCs, sorry. OC wise? I have been contemplating on writing one of my Splatoon OCs alongside my self insert for a while. But I haven’t gotten the uh... energy for making an entire new blog... yet
Verse wise? I’ve always been considering writing a Resident Evil Verse for Resse. RE has been a watch interest of mine, and given the supernatural life of Resse, it can be proved interesting to explore!

HAVE YOU SEEN THE STALKER FREAK OUT?
Yep and it’s hilarious. Been given permission to state this as well. It’s known that the stalker fan spread how that rpc home truths blog was Nolan and how they ‘wrote just like Nolan’ and how ‘Nolan has a very distinctive writing style’. What always made this laughable was that the three people that ran that blog were using ai to write the posts. Originally, they would write posts themselves then people freaked out when one of them told off someone for trivializing people with suicidal ideology. So as they stated, they would make a post then run it in ChatGPT telling it to rewrite it in the style of a 20 year old with slight attitude. And after posting what it gave they would freak out how ‘OMG THATS JUST LIKE HOW NOLAN WRITES ITS SO DISTINCTIVE!!!!’
Unless you think Nolan has always been ChatGPT now that would be an interesting theory.
HAVE YOU OR ANYONE TROLLS WITH THE ALIAS?
Oh big time. The original Nolan themselves has a server that’s basically the hub for his groups and ‘linked’ groups that friends and such make of the same genres and they all share members and all that. They are more popular on jcink sites than tumblr groups. Anyway, there is a section of it you can opt into viewing that is devoted to the drama these Karen’s make.
In it, he gives access to a ‘premium’ ChatGPT account that has 6 or so chats in it. All the chats are basically the same. Analyzing and break down such and such writing style, remember these details, and analyze future messages in this chat to compare them to the writing style and give an example to make it more accurate if needed. And to leave out the flowery poetic language ai tends to always use.
After that each of them are different versions of how he writes, his rants, his ‘business like talk’ and how he takes OOC. The other two are dedicated to how he writes two specific characters and the other to another person’s writing style.
And he says to go ahead and use it to write whatever be it applications, anons, posts, as someone on discords etc etc. out of everyone that does this for the lulz, maybe like 1/8 of them have been ‘omg my god this is Nolan’ and the rest have literally been told how people love their writing and have used it to write entire applications, all their posts, all the messages they send on the OOC discords. And no one has caught on that it’s ai or artificial Nolan.
It’s so much fun.
Which is something I don’t think the stalker fans understand. You had a guy who was just being themselves and 99% of a group liked them and the 1% on a few groups that didn’t went crazy on them. Then they went quiet and just would post and stick to talking one or two people and that’s it. They did nothing to make drama or seek it, when it hit they even would just let it roll of their back and let it hopefully die. Now he’s done with it and arranged for a server filled with people that range from 20 - 40 where a small number of us love pranks and will troll when bored if we think you earned it. And they provided us with an ai that will do everything but send the text for us. And they go off in the sunset enjoying themselves without needing to worry someone might freak out on them.
It’s likely some might have used it maliciously, it’s discouraged but you can’t control something that’s openly given out. Especially when the person that provided it has spent the last 4 months living as another alias and doing what they can to muddle the ‘it’s Nolan’ waters and being his normal self whose nothing like what the stalker fans wanna claim.
WHAT ABOUT THE STALKER BLOGS?
What about them? I’m sorry, you’re irrelevant if you have to hate view this blog. You guys got blacked and still freak out within an hour of a post going up here but are blocked. If you gotta sign out then sign in to another account or keep a different account logged on in another device on a different blog to view this one. Then you’re doing too much and already lost.

Week 19 Blog
This week I read pages 1 - 48 of the book “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson.
The most important sentence of this week can be found on page 19: “He still had plenty of friends in the business who would accept that he had fallen victim to bad luck and unusual circumstances, but he was never again going to be able to make the slightest mistake.” Here’s why. Blomkvist was held guilty on fifteen counts of aggravated libel of the businessman Hans-Erik Wennerstrom. This caused Blomkvist to basically be in a lot of debt even though he was acquitted on seven other counts so it could have been worse. Since he works for the Millennium magazine, he can never make a mistake like this (claiming that someone like Wennerstrom was using state funds that were meant for industrial investment in Poland for arms deals) ever again because he’ll lose his job. It’s all causing him to think of things to sell so he can pay off the debt he owes.
In this week's last section, I began to get extremely interested in this new book. When I first started reading it I was a bit lost (like I always am when it comes to a new book) but I quickly picked up on what was happening. The main character is Blomkvist and I believe the whole story is framed around him and the whole b business field. There was a whole chapter dedicated to him talking to Lindberg about the shady business when it comes to Wennerstrom and the way he runs things. As well as old history regarding AIA and Minos. This chapter was a bit confusing and I had to reread it a couple of times. I believe that the current chapter, I am reading is about this lady who gets things done and how impressive she is. Overall, I am excited about how the book might go.

Kansas City Chiefs Win The Superbowl

The 49ers, had a 10-0 lead at half, and no doubt they they were the better team in the 1st half.
I'm definitely not a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, but it was inspiring watching Chris Jones on the sidelines rallying the players together for a pep talk, when both the offense and the defense were looking frustrated and how they would rally at half time.
The fumble on special teams in the 3rd quarter was a massive gash after a 3rd quarter where the Chiefs stopped making the mental errors of the 1st half, and that touchdown pass by Mahomes to Valdes-Scantling to put take the lead at 13-10 was the beginning of a cascade for the 9ers.
The 9ers would manage to get a touchdown, but the issue was having the extra point blocked on the next play, and boy did that turn out to be costly, because that 1 point was the reason the game had to go into overtime with the score at 16-16.
It may have takeb until the last drive of OT but Mahomes' pass to Mecole Hardman ultimately gave KC the Superbowl and congrats to KC but I want to dedicate the last part of this blog to the San Francisco 49ers.
See, I'm a big believer in karma. I'm a big believer in what goes around comes around, even if you have to make it come around.
While I am not a Chiefs fan, I do get to revel in the moral victory of no having to listen to 9er fans tell me that "Brock Purdy is elite because he just is".
Among the annoying most annoying narratives going in to this Superbowl, was the one that surrounded Brock Purdy, and whether he is indeed an elite NFL quarterback, and this one really irritated me to no f******g end.
Brock Purdy getting to an NFC championship game and then losing the Superbowl the following year, basically puts his resume on par with Colin Kaepernick, but do you think 9er fans are willing to accept that line of reasoning?
Of course not, because the elephant in the room with 9ers is that they wanted a starting quarteback that not only plays traditionally, but also reminds them of themselves, and as little of Colin Kaepernick as possible.
A few weeks ago, former NFL MVP Cam Newton was verbally abused when he made the distinction between game-managers and game changers.
Anybody that watched that Superbowl in overtime will know exactly what Cam Newton meant.
Mahome's ability to run, is what set him apart from Purdy, and it's the reason he got his team in to the endzone when it mattered the most and for 9er fans, they have to face the disparity and difference between what they believe, and what's actually true.
And lastly, boy-wonder, and poster child for NFL nepotism, Kyle Shanahan, has lost a 2nd Superbowl as head coach of the 9ers, and I expect plenty of criticism about his play calling, but how long can the San Francisco media continue to cover for this guy?
For now, I'll revel in both the moral victory and the real one on the field.

He worked at a big-time firm in the city for a CEO on the verge of retirement. With only about 5-10 years of employment left, the CEO agreed to sign the company over to Tristan once he was ready, meaning graduated, claimed, and finished with his service in the army. He knew showing up at Stonewall when he did meant less time, age-wise, to find a claim, but quite frankly, he wasn’t bothered by the time crunch. Reality bites
It's been a long time since I last updated this blog. Moving forward, my goal is to do weekly updates accompanied with the occasional video footage.
First, let me update you on recent developments:
I transferred to Ga State: I was originally taking classes online at West Ga but found that it was perhaps more difficult to do remote classes, especially when they're self-taught.
I was denied admission to Ga Tech: I found out today, unfortunately. Luckily it's not the end of the world, and I plan on reapplying in a year, but it does suck a little.
I failed Calc II...yeah.
I'm retaking Physics I: I'm going to be frank--I technically passed this class but I actually failed. Literally. I got a D of some sort and my teacher bumped my grade to a C to keep from failing me. No, I didn't ask her to do this. And yes, I'm sure I actually got a D.
My grades are less than stellar, but I am confident I will hit my stride soon. The truth is that I don't know how to learn and dedicate myself fully to something. I procrastinate. A lot. I struggle to focus. I struggle to understand. None of this is new, but I've been able to successfully avoid this reality by submerging my head into a book all day, hyper focusing on the fictional lives of mermaids, superheroes, and high school underdogs.
But, I refuse to let that get me down or stop me. In roughly 2 weeks I'll be moving downtown. The place I found is a summer sublease, but I'm hoping to solidify the move by finding a place to rent permanently. Over the summer, I'm:
Taking Physics I and Calc I again: It's important to solidify the basics and I'm determined to do just that.
Working 20hrs/week in the lab: Fortunately, I still work in the lab. I'm taking 28 days off this month to recoup after last semester and move, but I'll be starting back the week I move.
Working 35hrs/week at my other job: This job pays the bills and tuition(s) so I'm glad to have it and be able to work so many hours!
Taking cello lessons: Finally! I'm so excited! My goal is to take two 45m-1h lessons a week, but I'm still working on confirming this.
Taking ballet classes: They're AOD classes. I would be lying if I didn't say I'm less thrilled by that fact, but that's all that's available when you're starting past the age of 15-16.
Starting a youtube channel? The verdict's still out to be honest.
In my last post, I mentioned wanting to get lean, fit, flexible, and build up strength. I did take up running (although I stopped in Mar-Apr but have resumed) and lost 12.5lbs last time I checked. I'm not yet where I want to be but I'm making good progress. My stretching habit did fall off, but I'm trying to get back on top of everything. My mind is so cluttered and easily overwhelmed that it can be pretty hard, but I'm trying...

So, here’s what else you need to know about building your own wedding website.
Do I really need a wedding website?
While, of course, there’s nothing mandatory about having a website dedicated to your wedding, many couples are increasingly deciding they would like to have one.
There was a time when it might have been presumed to be an act of vanity to set up a website for one’s own wedding, but things have changed a lot in that regard. After that, there’s a lot of scope to provide more in-depth information on such things as the dress code, what the catering will be like, options for travel and accommodation, and so on. And providing contact details for you and your sweetheart is obviously a good idea too, as you can’t guarantee that even a very informative wedding website will have necessarily answered everyone’s questions.
Then, there are the potential ‘luxury’ inclusions on a wedding website, such as pages or even blog posts detailing personal stories about how the two of you met and fell in love, and how the wedding planning is coming along. But you don’t have to be that confessional on your wedding website if you don’t wish to be – plenty of couples do just stick to the basics.

It's a modern fic where wy and lz was married with a-yuan, they were living in lqr's house (apartment?) and he was constantly critizising and controlling their life. Wy tried to convince lz to move, but he didn't want to. Later wy was thrown into jail coz he was suspected to be the culprit of something (cant remember), but turns out it was actually meng yao. After wy was released lz decided to move out of lqr's house w/ a-yua coz lqr is toxic

16. Hi! Been looking for this fic for a while, and nothing's come up on my end. I'm not sure if it's been deleted or not. I remember WWX and Wen Qing set out on a mission(? For lack of a better term.) of sorts, and LWJ's left in the Burial Mounds with the Wen Remnants (+ others?). Before WWX left, though, everyone was eating dinner, and LWJ noticed that someone who recently came up to the Burial Mounds was lurking in the back. I think it turned out to be Xue Yang? They took A-Qing hostage (Or it could have been another kid; I'm not sure.) But XY and LWJ fight. LWJ ends up majorly injured after he kills XY. LWJ sets off a talisman/signal flare that would catch WWX's attention--which WWX gave him sometime before this ordeal. And I think this next part happens not long after WWX and WQ return: WWX and WQ said that they were suspicious of LWJ at first, so when they saw the talisman/signal flare, they almost didn't come back.

I remember all the jiangs really love WWX, especially YZY, she loves him and spoils him so much that even when he got in trouble in gusu, she said its just LQR being a stuck up. I think WWX is the youngest out of the siblings and they're having a hard time accepting LWJ "taking away their baby".

19. Hello, I have been attempting to find this fic again for months. A bathing WWX is taken hostage in the Jingshi. The hostage takers oppose Chief Cultivator LWJ's reforms. Resolved via HGJ cutting off some limbs (possibly a head). Afterwards, rumours circle regarding LWJ's abuse of power. JC (with JL) warns against such moves. LWJ informs them he is willing to listen to criticism. He is against people expressing their opposition via harming WWX. Cue JC and JL fussing over WWX. Thank you!

20. Hiya -- Thank you so much for doing what you do!! I'm looking for a fic I read on AO3 which is a darker take on the post-resurrection plot line. After finding out that everything which occured in the past was engineered by Jin Guangyao, Wei Ying decides he wants revenge. I remember a line from the summary which goes, "Lan Zhan what if I told you I wanted to spill their blood?" or something to that effect. Lan Zhan is generally supportive of vengeance :) @bella-jayd

To celebrate their new direction and get some insights into the how and why the blog is changing, I invited @sitp-recs to chat with me. We knew we'd have so much fun, and didn't want to leave any patrons out, so we recorded our conversation to share. I'll be DL, in bold, and sitp-recs is SP. I hope you enjoy getting a bit of behind the scenes of how we run our blogs, finding balance in fandom, and our friendship.
DL: First of all, Happy New Year! I’m so glad we could finally sit down and chat like we’ve been trying to do for….4 months now? 5 months? Lol
SP: Happy New Year! I’m so ready for 2022. Hopefully it will be a gentler year to us all. And I know, right? It’s been months and so much has changed between then and now, but I’m happy we’re doing this to start the year. Good omens! Thanks for the invite by the way, I’m really humbled by it.
DL: You’re so welcome! I’m ecstatic to have you, so I’m glad we made it work. And a gentler and kinder year is the best wish for 2022. Did you set any New Year’s Resolutions in relation to your blog?
SP: That’s a great starting point, actually. I posted about it recently and rather than a few bullet points, mine was a long and mildly chaotic rambling lol. Rigid resolutions and numbers scare me a bit and I’m trying to take it easy this year. Mainly, I hope to keep doing what I love but find more balance along the way. I want to read more, comment more, write more single reviews and be more present for my friends. It’s kinda generic, I know, but I want to establish a low pressure environment so I can continue enjoying the blog now that it’s entering its third year.
DL: You and I have talked before about how running a fan blog, while sometimes time consuming, should always be fun. Did you feel like you’d gotten to a point where it was no longer fun this year?
DL: This year being…last year lmao. 2021.
SP: Sadly, yes. Although, to be fair, it was way more related to what I was going through in real life and less related to fandom in general. I changed jobs at the beginning of 2021 and have been dedicating a lot of time and energy to it. The first semester was a complete nightmare and I was barely able to read anything, let alone write recs. It’s particularly frustrating to watch the fandom flourish when you can’t keep up. I got overwhelmed between the buzz surrounding new fics and the pressure I put on myself to keep the blog active by posting recs and giving something back to the community. That’s when I decided to stop making reclists, as they basically took all my free time away and were adding to the stress rather than being a fun, relaxing activity.
DL: That’s something I very much relate to. As much as I’d love to read fanfic and make rec lists all day, I have other responsibilities. Finding that balance is so important. For me, it’s doing about 1 rec list a week and a Happy Hour on Fridays when I can. I’ve also stopped trying to find lost fics. I feel like that’s in more capable hands with @lostdrarryfics Sometimes I get asks that are like “I’m not sure if you are still active…” and I'm like “...I just posted last week?” and I just have to laugh. It feels like that “I'm not dead yet!” scene from Monty Python. I love putting out content and rec lists, but it’s a hobby. Sometimes real life and responsibilities take precedence, and I’ve always tried to be very honest about that. As your friend, I’m so proud of you for putting those boundaries in place and finding your balance. So now that you’re not doing rec lists, what can we expect to see on your blog?
SP: That’s exactly it, and I think that unfortunately, Tumblr gets tainted by the social media immediacy thing, considering we have so many different demographics mixed together. Everyone is at a different point in their life, and setting up boundaries can be incredibly hard when it’s about something you genuinely love to do, but it’s necessary to keep a healthy relationship with both fandom and real life responsibilities. I don’t want to rule out all reclists because I still very much enjoy making them - but I won’t be doing them on demand as I used to, probably just some specific lists like the one I did for my 2021 favorite works. Other than that, I plan to keep on boosting artworks, microfics, rare pairs and fandom fests when I can. As for the single recs, I’d really love to include older gems, as I did in 2020. When I started the blog the whole idea behind it was to celebrate both classics and lesser known works, and some of the best fics I discovered that year were published between 2010 and 2015. So I’m hoping to highlight those again, and hopefully send more readers their way.
DL: Ooooh, I love that! I think there’s so much great content that gets overlooked because of “classics” so I love finding those hidden gems.
We’ve talked about some of the stressors of running a popular fandom blog, but I certainly don’t want that to take away from how much we both love to do it. Part of the reason you’re working to find this balance is so that you can keep blogging because it does bring so much joy! What’s your favorite part about running your blog?
SP: You’re right - creating this blog was one of my best decisions and a major highlight in these otherwise dark, uncertain times we’ve been living for the past two years. Reccing, for me, is a very special kind of therapy. I love the catharsis it brings, and the way I’m able to freely express my thoughts and feelings about a work that somehow I really can’t translate when I’m leaving a comment on AO3. I love the idea of just… putting my thoughts out there, hoping to find echo but without really considering my audience or expecting something in return, if that makes sense? It’s a very liberating process and hey, I get to practice my English while I’m at it, so that’s a nice bonus! I also love interacting with both creators and fellow readers. I love getting feedback like “Wow, thanks so much for thinking of my fic. This made my day!” just as much as I love hearing “I found this fic thanks to your rec and now I’m obsessed.” It’s so incredible to think that, despite not being a creator, my words could still move someone, even if it’s just one person, and inspire them to either read that work or go and create their own. That’s real magic!
DL: That’s such a lovely answer! I completely get what you’re saying about interacting with fellow fans. Writers often make my day when I read their amazing works, so it feels so good to give that acknowledgement back to them. I love seeing their positive reactions when I’ve included someone in a reclist or featured them in a Happy Hour. It makes me happy to make them happy. You’re absolutely right - it’s a special kind of magic.
One of my favorite things about your blog is how personable you are. You always come across so warm and friendly in all of your posts. I love that. It was one of the first things I noticed when I first followed you.
SP: That’s such a lovely compliment, and the first time I really stop to think about my approach as a blog owner, but yes! I’ve always been the communicative type. I like to think I’m a welcoming presence and I try my best to come from a place of kindness and empathy while respecting my personal boundaries. I’ve always wanted the blog to feel like a safe space that respects all reading preferences, ships and tropes, even if they’re not my own. That’s why I’m so adamant about promoting rare pairs too, as I personally love so many of them. Fandom can be a very hostile space for those communities, so I try my best to stay away from any kind of toxic discussion that doesn’t belong in a positive space.
DL: I love that. I recently read a fic that had Pansy/George as a background pair and I thought it was a really fun ship (don’t worry, it’ll be on my Late Christmas List). What’s a pair that you never would’ve thought of but really enjoy?
SP: Ohh, I’m curious to check that one out! I love fanon Pansy because she’s so shippable. That’s the beauty of being in the HP fandom as a multishipper - there are so many possibilities and so many talented authors trying their hand on rare pairs. I feel really lucky to be experiencing fandom at this point in time. As for your question, a few years ago I’d never have considered reading Golden Trio fics, as in Harry/Ron, Harry/Hermione, and Harry/Ron/Hermione. I used to perceive their dynamics strictly as sibling-like friendship and could not see them interacting romantically at all. I really can’t give you a precise answer on when that changed and I felt comfortable to explore this OT3 (probably as I got more and more interested in the “friends to lovers” trope, and found a compelling summary by an author I trust and love!) but I decided to give it a shot and now I love this triad in every possible variation. I’m still a bit picky about the kind of dynamics I enjoy with most of my favorite rare pairs, so I don’t read them as often as I read Drarry!
DL: Oooh, I actually love a good triad. I haven’t looked at the prompts for @hptriadfest yet but I think they start posting in April. Maybe they’ll have something new for you to enjoy!
SP: Won’t ever deny a good threesome!
DL: One of my favorite things to ask is what are you currently reading? Both in fanfic and in real books?
SP: I’m….so very ashamed to admit that I haven’t read real books since finishing my Master’s two years ago, but I’m hoping to change that this year! Of course, the popular Captive Prince series is high on my list. I’ve seen so many artworks on Tumblr and I just know it’s going to be right up my alley - Drarry similarities and all! As for fic, I just finished oldenuf2nb’s last advent fic called The Magic Behind the Camera with photographer Harry and magazine editor Draco. It’s a lovely read for those who enjoy the identity porn trope! I’m now debating whether to pursue a long or short fic next. Any recs?
DL: Of COURSE I have a rec! I just finished a shorter fic that I really enjoyed. It’s called both that morning equally lay by @janieohio. It’s a remix of Auror Conley on the Case by @frenchmarshmalloww that was also fun. Have you read them?
SP: I haven’t! Ohh, gotta check these out ASAP! Love that summary, and 5k is a perfect length for me. God bless short fics!
DL: Don’t get me wrong - I love a long fic - but I adore short fics. I love a quick bite sized fic that I can get into and finish while I’m waiting in a line or read quickly on my lunch break at work. Also, for books, can I recommend The Guncle by Stephen Rowley? It was one of my favorite reads of 2021. It’s a pretty quick read packed with lots of bittersweet emotions and family moments.
SP: That sounds perfect, thanks so much! And I agree 100% about short fics. They’re very practical as you said, and can be just as much, if not more, nuanced and emotionally rewarding. I’ve read so many brilliant short fics in the past few years. We have some incredibly talented authors exploring shorter forms.
DL: Absolutely!
SP: I can’t believe I got recs out of this!
DL: I can’t help myself! I’m like one of those grandmas who keep trying to feed you, even if you’re not hungry. “Here honey, have another fic rec. You can pack this one up and take it with you!”
SP: It’s in our nature! We just can’t help screaming about our favorite fics and authors!
DL: Exactly! Which, speaking of! Do you want to share any favorite Drarry fics?!
SP: I think @letteredlettered's The Boy Who Only Lived Twice will always be my top favorite. I reread it all the time (despite being 50k) and get the same incomparable thrill I got when I first read it so many years ago. Lettered is definitely a personal favorite for me, the majority of their fics hit all of my boxes. Their most recent fic By the Grace is one of the most compelling, nuanced, and emotionally satisfying masterpieces I’ve ever read. Then I have to mention Far From the Tree by aideomai who pretty much blew my mind with this brilliant and devastatingly tender time travel epic - and I’m not even that invested in the 8th year trope!
DL: I loved By the Grace! I think I put it on a rec list immediately after I read it. I remember feeling like “Oh my god! Do people know about this fic!? Everyone needs to read this RIGHT NOW!”
SP: That was my reaction too! It was so mind blowing!! And so very different from Letterd’s usual style - more focused on dialogue and character development. This excerpt will always live rent free in my head:
Harry’s heart leapt into his throat, and all thoughts of solace or freedom or courage left him. “Do you mean you …” He trailed off, then cleared his throat. His hands twitched again. “You did say you remade every cell.” “Potter, you fool,” Malfoy muttered. “My body doesn’t know how to make a cell that doesn’t love you.”
DL: Ugh. What an excellent quote. With that loveliness, shall we end it there?
