#and I think Emily deserves a similar epilogue

hi I am still not normal about how we never get much of an epilogue for Emily and Corvo in the second game we are told how the rule turned out and that Emily is the beloved empress now but nothing beyond that and I get that the entire game is very much built on that I get that the first game we have close relationship with Emily and become fond of the staff that work with the Loyalists so we feel alone because we do not quite see eye to eye with our allies and all we have left is this little innocent child that sees Corvo as someone who can do no wrong in this world which is strongly contrasted with the second game where Emily (or Corvo) has few trusted allies that they can actually rely on and it feels like a group of almost-friends working to dismantle the conspiracy but at the very end of it all Emily is all alone, even her return to the Tower is so much more grim, her taking down Delilah, the entirety of Dunwall- it all feels so incredibly and thoroughly isolating, she is all Alone now, and maybe that's why it bothers me so much to see the story end so abrupty.
it would've been so, so poetic if both the first and the second game ended with Corvo and Emily embracing

Meeting You Flipped the World Upside Down - Or Maybe Just Mine
Here is Chapter 10, since this is short I’m going to post the epilogue right after this for y’all. Not everyone gets their happy ending. I know some of the hate other creators have gotten for leaving a story “unfinished” but I think this just proves that making the right decision for you shouldn’t weigh down on you. You deserve everything you earn and nobody should be able to strip you of that.
Summary: Reader has been a rut, stuck in a never ending cycle of college worries and job interviews. Never did she think that SSA Aaron Hotchner, or Agent as she likes to call him, would walk into her favorite late night diner and flip her world upside down. And he for sure didn’t expect to fall in love so quickly with the soon to be college grad. They navigate finding love and working together to rediscover what that means for each of them.
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner X Female Reader
Word Count: 800
Cruel Jokes
You lived in a repetitive cycle again. Trapped in an endless spin on despair, you poured all of your emotions into your finals before driving back to Virginia for the holidays. All you wanted was some relaxation before your last semester. Your parents didn’t push when it came to Aaron, they knew that you broke up. Nothing more. It wasn’t something you were willing to come to terms with yet.
Aaron was having a similar experience. He went back to his drill sergeant ways. Making the members of the BAU resent him near the holidays. Dave tried to broach the subject but was met with a hostile Aaron. He wasn’t himself anymore.
The girls would text you occasionally trying to schedule a girls night since they knew you’d be back in town. You weren’t going to say yes but you figured it was wrong to ice them just because Aaron was an ass. No. Ass was too nice a word. You’d have to think of something more appropriate one of these days.
The girls decided on a bar near Quantico and would end the night back at Emily’s flat for a movie and wine night. When you arrived you were met with cheers and plied with alcohol before you even sat down.
“To Y/N being one semester from graduating!” Penelope yelled and all four of you clinked your shot glasses before downing them quickly. If Penelope was good at something, it was getting you plastered without trying. You were two shots and a martini in when you started to feel dizzy. The girls had dragged you to the dance floor, you wandered away from them and asked the bartender for some water before sitting back down at your booth. You just wanted to get the hell out of here soon or you’d be sick in the club bathroom. You weren’t sure you wanted to relive a few months ago. As if they could read your mind, the three of them hoisted you up and loaded you into a taxi and were heading to Emily’s.
You sobered up pretty quickly from there, the girls drank wine around the TV while you nursed several bottles of water. Calm conversation turned into truth or dare at some point and you weren’t in the right mind to say no. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise when they asked about Aaron. He was their boss, of course they knew something was up.
“Soooooo, Y/N. What happened with you and boss man? He's been more uptight than usual.” JJ was the first one to mention it. You really thought it would have been Pen or Emily.
“We broke up when I came down for Halloween. I took a job in Montana and he didn’t take it well. I didn’t want to hold myself back. There’s nothing more to it.”
It got quiet real quick. Not for long though, you were swarmed with more questions from Penelope, apologies from JJ, and congratulations from Emily.
“It was the right choice for me. It sucked but at least it happened when it did instead of later. I love him but I won’t do anything to jeopardize my future. If I asked him to leave the BAU I know he wouldn’t, I wasn’t going to make him choose.” That was true, it was exactly what you wanted to tell him that night before he belittled you. Made you feel like his property. The girls didn’t need to know the truth. You may hate him at the moment but you weren’t going to turn his subordinates against him. You’re sure he’d do that by himself, he didn’t need help.
“If it’s any consultation, we’re all really happy for you Y/N.” JJ came up to you and wrapped you in a hug. You just wanted to drop dead honestly. This was the most you talked about him in a long time. The words he said to you rang in your head, how could you still love him after that? It was irrational. You must’ve started actually crying because when you opened your eyes Emily and Penelope had joined the hug.
You awkwardly laughed and wiped your tears. “I’m sorry. I guess I haven’t really said any of that out loud since it happened. Fuck. I just wanted him to be happy for me, I wasn’t even sure I was going to take it. I was waiting for more offers closer to him. To you guys. I wanted to gauge how he felt about it. He didn’t even give me a chance to explain.”
The girls went quiet again, you excused yourself to the bathroom to change your clothes. You looked in the mirror and wiped your remaining make-up off and made your way back into the living room. The girls were back to watching the movie and had made popcorn. You sat on the floor, leaning up against the couch, and tuned into the movie that just started playing. The world must’ve been playing a sick joke when Humphry Bogart appeared on screen. Casablanca. Ilsa made the safe choice. So were you.

hanahaki disease pt 4
summary: hanahaki disease- a disease where the victim of unrequited or one sided love begins to vomit or cough up the petals and flowers of a flowering plant growing in their lungs. which will eventually grow large enough to render breathing impossible if left. it ends when the beloved returns their feelings or when the victim dies.
a/n: i feel like this is super short, idk if i want it to end there. i was thinking maybe i could do an epilogue? what do you guys think?
Tumblr media
pt 1 pt 2 pt 3 pt 4
spencer’s pov
morgan and the unsub were talking back and forth but i wasn’t paying attention to them. y/n had caught my attention, her face looked red as her hand reached to touch her chest. out of nowhere, her eyes rolled into the back of her head as she collapsed. “y/n!”, i exclaimed as i got down on my knees. “i need a medic, agent down”, i said quickly into the intercom. i scooped her up into my arms, standing up and quickly making my way out of the building.
i heard the sirens before i could see the flashing red and blue lights. the ambulance quickly arrived and one of the EMT’s grabbed her from my arms and put her on the stretcher. i got into the back of the ambulance along with the two medics. “she has hanahaki disease, there’s a flower in her lungs”, i said hurriedly. i watched with furrowed brows as they put a ambu bag over her mouth, manually giving her air. “check her pulse”, the one holding the device over her mouth said. the other one’s fingers reached for her neck, “it’s dropping”.
they both shot each other a look. “get ready to start cpr at any moment, i don’t think she’s gonna make it”, my mind went blank at their words. no no no, what do you mean she might not make it. she has to. i felt the ambulance come to a halt, the doors opening and y/n being carried out. i got out after them, one of the nurses escorting me to the waiting room.
it wasn’t until i felt something wet drip on my hand that i knew i was crying. it has to do something with her lungs, she has that plant inside of her. i tried to hold in my sobs as i went to sit down in the empty waiting room. she has that because of me, i felt guilt overpower my body. a heart wrenching feeling appeared in my chest. red carnations are my favorite, and she has red carnations in her. i read the article, ‘this plant can range from flower to flower. totally depends on what flower the beloved prefers’.
i saw a doctor come into the waiting room, “are you spencer reid?”. i nodded my head rapidly, standing up. “she has hanahaki disease, there’s a plant growing in her lungs”, i repeated my words from before to the doctor. “yes we know, her lung collapsed and we found it. we need to start surgery to get it removed. however we do need permission from family for this type of surgery, she has you down as her emergency contact”, the doctor replied.
“yes of course, you have my permission”, i quickly said. the doctor handed me some papers i need to sign then left. i sat back down in my seat, getting ready to read the papers. i jumped a little as i heard my phone ring. i quickly got it out of my pocket to see penelope calling. “hello”, i said softly. “what happened to y/l/n?!”, penelope said in a panic. i cleared my throat as i said, “her, uh, her lung collapsed, they’re starting surgery on her right now”, i replied into the phone.
“do you need me to come down? i can be there in a jiffy”, she said, the noises of her heels clicking being heard. “yeah if you want”, i replied, running my hands through my hair. garcia replied with a ‘okay’, and hung up. i focused my attention back on the papers, but found the words not grasping. it didn’t matter how many times i read them over and over again, my mind was focused on y/n. i eventually got frustrated and just signed the papers, standing up to give it to one of the receptionists.
garcia soon arrived, sitting next to me. whenever i thought back to y/n, the tears started again. she’s here because of me, i love her. i don’t know what i’d do without her. i already lost maeve i can’t lose her too. my hand reached up to wipe the tears off my cheeks. i’m not sure how many hours we were here for. at one point the whole team was here, but some went home. now it was just emily, garcia, and me here. emily looked distressed while garcia had a sad expression on her face. i assume i looked similar.
we all stood up when the doctor that gave me the papers came back, head to toe in surgical gear. “the plants been removed and her lung surgery was successful”, he replied. we all let out a breath of relief. i felt like a ton of weights had been lifted off my chest. the guilt still lingering but the thought of her being alright soothed me. “she’s not awake but you can go see her now”, the doctor let us know as he left.
we all moved into her room, seeing her peaceful figure. i sat down in one of the chairs next to her bed, scooting it up so i can be as close as possible. i grabbed her hand, taking her cold fingertips into mine. i glanced at her face, her eyes closed and her pretty pink lips slightly open. i love her, i realized. i thought back to everytime we ever interacted. they joy i felt whenever i made her laugh, how my heart raced whenever she got too close. how her smell filled my nose when we hugged or cuddled, how soft her skin felt against mine.
i rested my hand against her hand, staying in that position and eventually falling asleep. i heard shuffling around the room, lifting my head up to see the commotion. i squinted my eyes at the bright sun, having slept all morning up until now. my eyes catched the figure of a nurse injecting a liquid into y/n’s IV. my eyed trailed to find her awake, watching the nurse. my back straightened as i saw her eyes open. “y/n, you’re awake”, i said surprised.
“yeah, how long have you been here”, she said turning her head towards me, her pretty orbs landing on mine. “since you got out of surgery”, i said, my eyes following the nurse making her way out of her room. “y/n, i have to tell you something”, i said nervously, looking down at her hand that was still in mine. “what is it”, i heard her gentle voice say. “i love you, almost losing you made me realize that i love you. and i’m so sorry that i didn’t realize it before, you never deserved to have that grow inside of you”, i said tearing up, holding on to her hand tightly and looking into her eyes.
“spencer, i don’t love you anymore. my feelings went away when they took the plant out of me”.

“Are you sure that everything is all right?” Your voice was small, barely audible because of the fear that you were asking too much tonight. Harrison was wordless for the past hour, the usual talkative and energetic Harrison was replaced with a tranquil and reticent one. It was bothering you, you wanted to be the one who he could trust with his thoughts and feelings.
“Yeah, sorry love. Did I zone out again?” His finger was ghosting over your skin repeatedly in the same way like it was an obligation. He was here, but the fact that his mind was somewhere else and not with you was the thing that concerned him. The messages stayed unread, but he still couldn’t stop thinking about them. You were also there, in the mess of his thoughts. You were such a pure person, the most breathtaking girl he ever saw and your modesty and tenderness still made his heart so warm. However Emily could do the same. Harrison knew she was nothing like you, that she was a total opposite and that was what got him hooked in the first place when he met her. You two were doing so good, so damn good and still are. Why did she came back now? It didn’t trouble him that she returned back home, but the fact that she was messing with his mind now after she completely screwed him over. That was the thing that made him so exasperated. He looked like a fool, he should have left everything he had with her in the past. Harrison was too good to be someone he wasn’t, he didn’t regret forgiving her for what she did, but he regretted not leaving everything there on that party. The coffee was unnecessary, the texting even more and the next meeting was something he didn’t even want to comment. Harrison was a tender-hearted guy, sometimes even too much. That’s why he was stressing, he knew how wrong this was and how keeping it as a total secret was something he will never forgive himself. There were many times when he tried to put himself in your shoes, he even questioned himself what if you did the same to him? What if he was the one to witness your emotional “cheating”. Yes it made his stomach churn from the thought and yes he was in a situation like that with the person who is now giving him once again a hard time. Everything was so wrong.
“You did.” You kept your words to yourself as much as possible, his silence was exhausting and you wanted it to end.
“Fuck.” He exhaled loudly, not sure what to do with this situation that was already so fucked up. Harrison was sure he was going mental at this point, begging for Emily to leave his mind just for a moment so he could breathe.
Your body was still, but not relaxed as it used to be next to him. You took the opportunity to turn on the side like you were hiding from his gaze. And maybe you were? You weren’t sure which reason was it now but the pick wasn’t hard. There were two reasons, two pretty clear reasons. Tom and him.
“Sweetheart.” He sighed as you shut your eyes. It hurt him that you knew something was going on and that you could feel him shutting you out. He didn’t deserve you.
“I’m just tired.” The plain respond and fragile voice was what brought him back where he should be. Here with his beautiful girl. Even if he ruined things, he couldn’t help but smile at your figure and face that tried to remain calm.
“Come here.” He spooned you, nuzzling his face in the warm crook of your neck relaxing immediately as your scent hit him. Was this the safest place for him? It definitely was. He was so sure about it.
“I am sorry for today. I know I didn’t behave like myself. So many things are on my mind that shouldn’t even be there and it’s freaking me out Y/N.” His grip on your waist tightened, afraid that you will leave.
“We all have problems Harrison, but we’re in this together. You having too much on your plate isn’t the thing that’s been bothering me but you shutting me off completely like you don’t trust me is something I’m worried about.” The words were so true, so true that he could feel the knot in his gut getting tighter every second after they left your mouth.
“I know. I know love. I’m so sorry. I-It’s just the whole college situation and I had a little disagreement with Harry so it’s been on my mind for a while now. I’m sorry that I shut you off but this is stupid and making you worry about it wasn’t what I wanted.” Lies. Nothing comes good from them. He swallowed the lump in his throat after he tried to gain your trust with these awful lies. God Harrison you’re a sore loser.
“Hey, it’s okay Haz. Whatever it is about college I’m sure you will ace it I have no doubts about it and whatever thing you had with Harry you will sort it out, you know he can’t stay mad for a second so I wouldn’t stress about that especially. And you never make me worry about your feelings. Please I would rather know what’s going on than see you get lost in your thoughts and overthink it if I’m the reason, if I did something that could made you feel despondent or something.” You were too good to be true, he still couldn’t see your face, he squeezed his eyes shut as the guilt ate him up alive. He loved you, adored every single feature of yours, he wanted everything with you. Maybe this was a call for him to wake up. Harrison could feel the warm small hand resting on his cheek, your face close to his.
“You know that I love you don’t you?” You breathed out a chuckle after he spoke, the warm breath fanning his skin that was prickled with goosebumps. He needed you.
“I do and I love you more. We’re partners, friends, lovers please don’t feel afraid to tell me what you’re feeling. I care about you.” Harrison was feeling like shit. You deserved so much and he wanted to give it to you. It wasn’t the end but he still couldn’t help but feel like it was because of his actions. He hoped that it wasn’t too late for his love. She should be gone and he hoped he will have the guts to say it to her face.
-
“A good night Tom? How was she?” Tom should have known that the frat is anything but asleep. Before it was everything to him. Coming back from a girl’s place or brining one back here was a boost to his ego when his frat mates would cheer for him hoping they will be just like him. Now it was annoying, especially when he had so much on his mind.
“She was great.” She really was. A bashful and timid girl that loved history like crazy. Tom found it cute, she was nervous and when he asked her about her interests she couldn’t stop rambling. It reminded him of you and your passion about books. Evelyn was someone who could bring him back to his feet. A girl that cared about feelings and not about physical things, a girl that finds joy in small places not packed ones and a girl that could love him endlessly no matter what or who he was once. Tom wasn’t sure if he was describing you or her, but you two were so similar that it made his heart ache from the thought.
“Just great? Man I thought the nerds were much more fun to be with.”
“Brad spare me the stupid comments of yours I’m dog-tired and you’re a prick.”
“Man no need to be that harsh, you will find a new one c’mon.” Brad clearly didn’t get the message, no one would because they still didn’t think that he was a whole new person. It will be tough for him to prove how he isn’t the same guy with the reputation that he was once proud of but a whole new person that cared about feelings.
-
“It better be worth it since I didn’t sleep this good in a while now Harrison.” It was a shock for Tom to see Harrison this early in his bedroom, he never came unless it was something urgent that couldn’t wait for them to meet up.
“It is. You know that I can only talk with you, we went through thick and thin.” It was the truth, they were inseparable and still are but Tom tried his best to distance himself a little bit only because he loves him and because Harrison deserves to be loved and treated well and he didn’t want to be an obstacle to his happiness.
“Troubles in paradise?” Tom joked, crossing his arms waiting for his best friend to speak.
“Yeah, something like that. I mean I’m the trouble no one else.” He could see the worry on Harrison’s face, Tom could read him like a book knowing that something was occupying his mind for a while now.
“Okay, you should start from the beginning yeah? Is it about Y/N?” Your name rolled off his tongue so smoothly, his heart skipping a beat after it. He wondered how you were doing, especially after he didn’t contact you a few days ago after his date, again.
“No. I mean yes? Somehow it is? But it’s about me mostly. I’m the problem here.” He ran his hands through his hair that was longer than usual, massaging the scalp during the process to calm his nerves.
“You? I never heard you were the problem in a relationship until now.” Tom laughed, not believing that the boy who was always too good with his partners is calling himself problematic. The girls were usually the owners of that title, screwing him over and over again because of his good will.
“That’s why I’m panicking. I’m not like that. Never was and I don’t want to be now. I need your advice I don’t want to mess up a relationship that I finally deserve.”
“Tell me what’s the issue.” Tom was getting impatient, it didn’t seem good, he didn’t want to give an advice on something that may hurt you.
“Emily. Fucking Emily is the issue.” Harrison’s gravelly voice filled the small space making Tom’s blood boil. He needed a moment to process his words.
“Emily? Tell me you’re fucking kidding with me here Harrison.” He was loud and clear, not happy with Harrison’s statement.
“No. Fuck, Tom I’m so lost. We sorted everything out on that damn party, we wanted to forget what happened between us, we wanted to say hello to each other someday like normal people we didn’t want to look at each other with pure hatred flashed across our faces. Nothing else.”
“So what went downhill after that? It was definitely more than just sorting things out Harrison am I right?” He wasn’t ready to snap and he definitely wasn’t ready to hear the rest.
“I really don’t know how everything happened. It was so fast, my mouth was way faster than my brain. She was all like let’s grab a coffee like friends strictly, I know you have a girlfriend don’t worry. Just friends yeah? So I agreed. We grabbed that shitty coffee and we talked and talked for a long time remembering old times and once again I don’t remember how I accepted the offer to see her again.” Harrison wanted this to stop, he wanted to enjoy the time with the girl of his dreams.
“Are you serious? What do you mean you will see her again? Do you even remember how she made a fool out of you? Do you want this to happen again? No, let me rephrase that, do you want her to ruin your fucking chance to live with a person who will care and love you endlessly no matter what? Tell me you won’t see her Haz.” Tom was seeing red not only because of you but because of his best mate, his brother. He knew how much damage she caused to Harrison, how he was the one to mend the pieces and how he was the one to push him into dating and trusting again. Tom didn’t saw this as a chance to get you, even if this happened when he was the old cocky Tom he could never. However he didn’t want you to believe in false love. Did Harrison love you? He sure did, Tom could definitely see that but he could also see the old feelings mixing with his current ones and he didn’t want you to be the second choice.
“She is trying to get under my skin. I don’t know what her intentions are but we’re texting I mean I didn’t answer her a few days now since I was thinking about it and how wrong it is but shit man I-I don’t know.”
“What do you have to know? Would you be fine if you knew Y/N was that close all of a sudden with her ex lover? Mate this isn’t you, are you being serious right now with me? You have the most wonderful girl in front of you and you’re here trying to get an advice or approval from me that going behind your girlfriend’s back is fine.” That’s what he was afraid of. Being a bit to truthful about you and his feelings. Saying things he shouldn’t say to your partner.
“You’re giving me a lesson about feelings and what’s right? Didn’t you fuck Helen when you were with Sierra? Man what the fuck is wrong with you, I love that maybe you finally realised how being a total douche is boring but I wouldn’t do that to Y/N but since when are you so into feelings and loyalty?” If Harrison wasn’t his close friend Tom wouldn’t even hesitate to break his nose at that moment. He was right about everything, every single word was true and that’s what got him mad.
“Since the second you mentioned Y/N, since then. Maybe you should watch your mouth and get your head straight about this situation I’m trying to show you what a great mistake you’re making here. I love her and I just don’t want her to know that her best friend gave an advice how it’s okay for you to have this thing with Emily going on.”
“What a great friend you are, so she knows you almost banged her best friend?” Harrison wasn’t like that, but Tom stroke a nerve of his making him extremely furious and incoherent. The only one who knew about that was Harrison, no one else. Harrison knew immediately who Anna was when they met and after meeting you he finally connected the dots.
“Don’t you even dare to fucking mention that shit to Y/N, I swear to God I love you like a brother but I won’t stay silent about Emily.” He stood up instantly, the blood rushing to Tom’s face as he looked into his eyes that were full of guilt.
“I won’t. Just don’t tell her about Em either. Look, we’re best friends ever since we were drooling and crawling as babies. I came here for an advice, I wanted to meet her but only to say to her that this should stop. I love Y/N not Em Tom. I didn’t do anything behind her back and I never would. I’m sorry that I lashed out I just have so much on my mind.” Harrison voice was shaky, his words seemed genuine and he hoped that Tom didn’t caught the small insecurity in his voice.
“I trust you but I don’t trust Emily. She always says something and you’re like a whole new person wrapped around her stupid finger. Don’t let her play you out again. I’m not a fan of you meeting her again but if you promise me she won’t be in your or Y/N’s life after it I w-won’t say anything.”
“I promise. Thank you bro.” The hug and palms patting each other’s back made Tom exhale slowly, hoping he won’t get you hurt once again. Everything else was a blur after it, Harrison leaving and saying something to him wasn’t what he was focused on. His thoughts were about you only. Tom was having an inner battle about telling you everything but he made a promise. He loved you both however the love towards you was stronger. He couldn’t help but think about you. Tom was a shitty friend, giving Harrison the talk about how wrong is it to be with someone while thinking about another person. And here he was, going out with Evelyn with you wrapped around his heart.

Death of a Bachelor - Part 15
Tumblr media
A/N: hi guess what I have a new chapter for you!!!!!! did a little mapping today and it looks like there will likely be 2-3 more parts and an epilogue, subject to change. tags at the end, lemme know if you’d like to be added c:
The last of your things were boxed up and waiting for the moving truck to come any moment. It took you the better part of a month to sort through all the shit you’d accumulated over the years, pack up everything you planned on taking to Logan’s, and list your condo for sale. Logan had been there every step of the way to make sure you never had to lift a finger if you didn’t want to. Which, you were extremely grateful for all the help. You still had an office to attend to; business didn’t stop just because you were moving into a house with more space than you knew what to do with.
On the final Sunday afternoon, Logan had roped John Collins into helping with the final load of your things. True to his promise some month or so before, John had been around more and more frequently now that you were fully in the loop. He was a good man and so similar to Logan and completely the opposite in just as many ways. Where Logan was impulsive, John was calculated. Logan spoke with passion and conviction, whereas John was the silent enforcer. But both men were equally as excited to finally own Delos, perhaps for different reasons, but anxious to get their hands on it all the same. John was picking up the last box when he turned around to look at you and Logan.
“Think that’s it! Unless you’re hiding something else around here,” John grinned.
“Nah, that’s the last of it,” you sighed with a small smile. You were so happy to be living with Logan properly, of course you were. But there was that small corner of your heart that broke every time you remembered you were giving up this condo you loved so much. John had stepped out and you distantly heard his footsteps descend the stairs just outside your door. You wrapped your arms loosely around your middle and slowly paced around the now empty living room. The same room you’d given birth to your company, where you cried countless times to Emily about how you were ready to give up, where you and Charles got drunk after successfully landing clients, where Logan brought you sushi from your favorite restaurant to apologize for being a complete dickhead. The memory made you let out a small, sad chuckle.
“What’s the matter, princess?” Logan was reaching out and gently thumbing away a tear you didn’t realize had spilled from your eyes. You’d been so lost in your reverie that you failed to notice both Logan holding you cautiously and that you were crying. You shook your head a bit and forced a tight-lipped smile before looking up and meeting Logan’s soft and dark gaze.
“I guess,” you started, allowing yourself a deep breath and quickly wiped the remaining moisture from your cheeks. “This is one of only two places I’ve lived while I’ve been in LA. When I first came out here, I was in some shitty little studio like every other idiot who comes out here with enough arrogance to think they’re going to make it. But once I had real business and clients and money, I wanted to get the fuck out of that apartment.” You paused again and rubbed under your eyes once more. “This was the first place I looked at and I signed for it that same day. It was like it was here just waiting for me, you know? That probably sounds stupid. It’s just a condo. But this was the first thing I really bought for myself after I got my feet under me.”
“That’s not stupid at all,” Logan said sincerely, smoothing his hand over your hair. “I know you love this place. I don’t want you to feel like you need to give it up for me, ok? If you don’t want to…” he started, but you cut him off by quickly pressing your lips to his.
“You’re sweet, Lo. And I appreciate it. But I want to be with you and live in your hou—”
“Our,” he corrected with a small smile. The distinction made your heart swell and burst. Any lingering sadness you felt at saying goodbye to your space was quickly being pushed aside for the overwhelming joy you felt when you thought about being with Logan.
“Yes, our,” you laughed. “Ours,” you repeated before he was leaning down to kiss you again, slowly this time.
“Ours,” he mumbled against your lips, never moving away from them. One more languid kiss and you pulled apart, taking Logan’s hand in yours.
You scanned the place one more time as you stood in the doorway with Logan. After closing your eyes and taking in a long breath, you turned to him and nodded, a small smile tugging at the corner of your lips. The silver key twisted in the knob and locked your old condo for the last time.
-----
A week or so later, Juliet was at the house firming up plans for Jim’s retirement party that was set to happen in a month. He was doing his best to keep this meeting as short as possible; he had something planned for this evening and Jules simply was not invited. Logan had already taken care of hiring catering, entertainment, and valets, but Juliet offered to help with décor of some kind since she tended to have a better eye for those sort of details. Truthfully, Logan didn’t give a shit what it looked like or what people ate or if they even had a good time. In fact, he’d prefer it be the shittiest party imaginable for the most miserable bastard he knew. But he couldn’t very well get away with that, not if he wanted to pull off the charade like he wanted and not with Juliet watching so closely. Why she wanted to give Jim a nice send off, he’d never understand.
“I was thinking of having these around the sitting room and out on the terrace,” Juliet said, showing Logan something on her computer. He didn’t know what it was because he couldn’t be bothered to look up from his phone.
“Uh huh, sure,” he agreed dismissively. Juliet angrily snapped her laptop shut, drawing Logan’s attention back to her.
“What the fuck is up with you? Do you not care about this?” she asked, a small fire starting in her eyes.
“Not at all, actually,” he shrugged.
“Then why the fuck are you throwing Dad this party, huh? You guys haven’t even spoken in months.” She was right. And it had been the best, most peaceful eight months of his life. “Listen, I know it’s been hard for you. And I know I haven’t been the best sister or friend even during all…this. But if there’s something you need to tell me, please.” She always had been able to read Logan better than anyone.
“Nope, just trying to send off dad the way he deserves,” Logan said cryptically, smiling a bit too wide. Juliet wasn’t buying it, but she conceded and decided maybe it was best to let it drop and stop talking about Jim for a bit.
“So, how’s it been living together? She’s not ready to rip your head off yet?” she teased, leaning back into the couch.
“It’s been amazing, actually,” he laughed silently, a fond smile playing on his lips as he thought about how excited he was for you to come home. “I was a little scared to live with someone else, you know? I’ve lived on my own for so long and she has too. But we’d been having so many sleepovers, it didn’t really feel like we had to learn how to live together. We just kind of got it. I just have less room in the closet now.”
“Which I’m sure is just unbearable for you,” Juliet said with a roll of her eyes.
“If that’s my biggest adjustment, I’m not complaining,” he remarked, bringing his bottle of beer to his lips, dumping the last of it down his throat.
“So, things must be…pretty serious then?” she asked with caution. Logan knew what she was trying to ask without the words actually leaving her mouth. For as well as Juliet could read him, he was just as well versed at catching her meaning without her coming out with it.
“We live together, Jules. I suppose so, yes.”
“Yeah, ok. But this is, like, easily the longest you’ve ever been with one person, let alone had a title on a relationship.” She was right. Logan didn’t exactly have a lengthy history of longevity in his relationships. Now that he was thinking about it, he was pretty sure you were the only proper partner he’d ever had. The thought was both jarring and comforting to him.
“Just ask me what you want to, stop with all this bullshit,” he said, waving his hand dismissively in her direction.
“Have you guys talked about, you know, getting married? Kids?”
“Jesus, Jules. No,” he answered a little too quickly. “We’re not there. Don’t know if we will be.”
“I’m just saying,” she started softly, “it’s something you might want to talk about if you plan on keeping her around. I mean, how are you going to feel if you’re on two completely different pages? How is she going to feel? What if she’s ready for you to put a ring on it and start popping out babies?”
Logan laughed violently at the thought. Fuck anyone who thought he’d ever even entertain being a father. And he couldn’t imagine you having thoughts like what Juliet just described. But…maybe she had a point. Exaggerated, but a point none the less. Logan still didn’t know how he felt about marriage as an institution. But, if he were going to consider spending his life with anyone, it was most certainly you.
“I’m almost positive she doesn’t feel that way,” he said as his laughter began to subside.
“Almost positive is not certain, though, now is it?” she countered with a raised eyebrow. “I’m just trying to get you to think a little bit since I know you like to gloss over that part.” Logan rolled his eyes. “I like her a lot, and I know you do too. I just don’t want to see either one of you end up hurt because you were too busy assuming you know everything like you always do.”
“I appreciate the concern, sis. I’ll make sure we’re both vehemently anti-baby,” he joked with a sly smile. The two fell into a comfortable silence before Logan decided it was time to open his mouth again. “Billy still a worthless piece of shit?” Logan asked nonchalantly.
“I wish you wouldn’t do that,” she huffed angrily, starting to put her things back in her bag.
“Do what?”
“Ruin an otherwise good time by being a shit head!” she spat back angrily. “Jesus, Logan. Wake up. He’s going to be your brother-in-law whether you like it or not.”
“I don’t like it,” he countered easily.
“I KNOW. I know, ok? And you know what? I don’t fucking care.” She was on her feet now, making her way to the front door with her bag slung over her shoulder.
“Jules…” Logan said with a sigh, only regretting bringing up William a little bit.
“I’ll talk to you later, ok?” With that, she was forcefully closing the door behind her, leaving Logan alone with an empty bottle and his thoughts.
He glanced at the clock and figured he had a couple hours until you’d be getting home. Perfect, he thought, and pulled himself off the couch to start getting ready for the evening he had planned for the two of you.
-----
You stepped into the foyer after getting home and immediately noticed all the lights were off inside the house. The only source of illumination was the soft glow of the fairy lights hung around the deck. You had no choice but to follow the pull of the warm yellows and oranges they emitted. When you got to the sliding glass door, you saw Logan standing in a clean but casual suit, a small bouquet in his hands.
“What is all this?” you asked, a little dreamy, as you stepped outside to join him and further observed a nice dinner set out for each of you, a few candles lit on the table between the plates. It was clear Logan had taken his time setting everything up, taking into consideration all the things you liked. No matter how beautiful of a scene he had set, he somehow managed to look even more perfect.
“You know what today is?” Logan asked, wrapping his unoccupied hand around your waist. You swallowed a large lump that had formed in your throat. Shit, did you forget about something huge? You were going to feel like such a dick if you did. Logan looked so happy and so handsome, you couldn’t stomach the idea of upsetting him.
“No…” you said in an impossibly small voice, your eyes worried as you looked up at Logan. But he just laughed a little and managed to smile wider.
“Well, I suppose I’m not surprised by that. Since this day definitely left a bigger impression on me than it did on you,” he said, confusing you even more. Logan just handed you the flowers and moved in to kiss you. His kiss was firm and full of the passion he couldn’t convey with words. His lips were perfectly soft as he moved against you, making you whimper quietly from the back of your throat. As he broke away just enough to speak again, you were left breathless thinking about the kiss he just gave you. “One year ago today, you yelled at me for being a little bitch to the barista at the coffee shop in my building.”
He knew. He remembered the day you met. Back then, you assumed he had been another pretty boy trying to get into your pants by any means necessary, but you now knew he’d been so persistent because he really wanted you and everything you were. The thought made you want to burst into tears on the spot. He really did have a gooey center under all those layers of armor he managed to put on every day. You reached up and cupped his cheek, grinning like an idiot.
“Logan Delos, are we celebrating our anniver—”
“Shh,” he cooed, kissing you again before motioning towards your seat and pulling your chair out for you. You just giggled and took your place across from Logan.
“This looks great. Thank you, Lo. It’s beautiful out here,” you praised with a genuine smile.
“Not nearly as beautiful as the company,” he said smoothly, sending you a wink that made a warmth spread across your chest. It was wild how he could still turn you into a schoolgirl with the smallest gesture.
You enjoyed your meal and a bottle of wine, just catching up on each other’s days, a little flirting where you could both fit it in. He told you about Juliet coming over and new party developments, well, the ones he cared to remember. You filled him in on work and the new client Charles had brought in. The whole evening, you were just itching to be closer, closer, closer to Logan. You wanted his skin on yours, your fingers in his hair, his lips to wander wherever they so desired. It was almost impossible to keep your train of thought at times; you hadn’t been this completely blinded by lust in quite some time. But just as you were getting lost in another fantasy about all the things Logan’s long fingers could do, he caught you off-guard with a question you had not at all been expecting.
“Do you want kids?” He asked it so casually, you almost didn’t catch it. But you did, and it made you choke momentarily on your wine.
“Excuse me?” you laughed lightly, trying to stifle a cough.
“Do you want kids?” he asked, more seriously this time.
“I…no. No, I really don’t. Never have,” you said honestly. “Sorry if that’s…”
“Good, me either,” he agreed quickly with a bright smile.
“Baby, where did that come from?” you asked with a tilt of your head. Logan let out a little sigh and ran his fingers absentmindedly through his hair.
“When Jules was over today. I don’t know, I guess she got into my head a little bit,” he said smiling again, shaking his head. “She asked me if we wanted to get married and have kids and…”
“Was moving in together not enough for her?” You raised an eyebrow and smirked.
“This,” he said, reaching his hand out and taking yours, tugging you gently until you got the idea to stand up and plopped yourself back down on his lap. Logan had really taken to having you in his lap lately, not that you were complaining. “This is why I love you,” he said gently, tucking your hair back behind your ear. “She was saying shit about how we could not be on the same page and how shitty that would be. But,” he paused to run a palm up your thigh, “I knew we were. We don’t even have to say it.”
“I’m happy with you, Lo. With us,” you said with a smile before kissing his temple. “I don’t feel the need to anything on anyone else’s timeline but our own, ok? And if we decide we don’t want to do anything, that’s our own goddamn business.” You leaned down to kiss him again, this time on his wine stained lips. Logan was quick to grip your hip a little tighter, swipe his tongue a little harder as he eagerly deepened the kiss.
“Can I show you part two now?” he asked, his voice now deep and rough, laced with his want for you.
“There’s a part two?” you giggled. Logan just nodded and swatted at your ass to get up. As soon as you did, he was quick to lift you in his arms again, carrying you bridal style through your house. He toed the door to the bedroom open where he had strung up similar lights to those outside around the bed. You could tell he had changed all the linens to be fresh for tonight. Logan gently dropped you on the plush bedding and quickly moved to lay over you.
“You’re so goddamn perfect,” he sighed against the delicate skin of your neck. “Let me show you how perfect you are.”
