i know it's popular fanon to think that essek has little to no relationship experience and i do think his bedroom experience is average at best (for a hot young* elf) but i Personally think he's got a long line of heartbreaks behind him. i mean this so slash negative slash derogatory i think he was out there wining and dining and leaving-behining all the time. just for fun and profit. working on his acting chops. showing off. he likes attention dude. i don't think that's directly contradictory to him being very reclusive and quiet about his work i think he was mysterious and sexy and thought flirting was funny. anyway he and caleb "genuinely falls in love with every other person he meets and then is really weird about it, EXCEPT for essek, who he was genuinely honeypotting" widogast, who essek was also genuinely honeypotting for reasons Far beyond boredom (see: i think some of his early weirdness/awkward formality can be explained by the fact that he was trying to mask real homicidal rage towards the m9) are insane together they're ride or die they're perfect for each other they're lifelong "friends" and they're playing mind games the likes of which would level a city park id they broke out of containment. and it's enrichment for them

So I normally watch the first hour or so of CR and then go to bed, because time zone and work in the morning, but of course, I had to watch ALL of it last week and by the end, I was so sleepy that I vowed to rewatch it on Friday. Then my dog got into a fight with a raccoon, and we ended up at the emergency vet at 2am (he's fine now). the thing is, the accounts on cr twitter who have these wild takes aren't even shippers
they're all about nuance about the gods, aeor, ludinus, ruby vanguard.....but then have these extreme views about orym, say he's got bloodlust and pretty much equate him to a cop/military soldier
Hey anon! So I will admit as I have in the past that I largely avoid CR Twitter because I hate Twitter as a platform and the community of CR Twitter specifically (more below) but I will say the tweets I have seen have largely been from people who are, if not the most rabid of shippers, shippers. I did in fact just go there and click on "Orym" as it was trending, and the tweets to this effect are largely from people with black and purple hearts in their names. I don't think they're necessarily conscious that this is the reason why they try so hard to discredit Liam's characters (and I think the desire for Laudna to be a Traumatized Innocent rather than a person who has done her own share of harm is an even larger factor) but I do think it is part of it.
I should note: a significant point of reference for me is that the person who famously said "do not uwuify this" re Orym post episode 63 is Wally Wests on Twitter. Look, I know I use the word "stupid" a lot, and I'm trying to reduce it not because I think it's a problem to use but because it reduces the impact and also heavily implying people are stupid without outright saying it tends to be more effective on every level but god this person is the dumbest motherfucker in the fandom and I'm not even kidding. Like, they're the "Australian white person who writes like Rupi Kaur but worse" I've referenced. Because of The Algorithm they are weirdly popular in that space and it baffles me because I honestly don't understand why every single thing they say isn't just filled with replies saying "are you fucking stupid." Like I physically cannot understand how you can have a brain and read a single word they say and go "this is a person I should listen to." They are also not a big shipper, but they do like the ship from what I understand. Specifically on Tumblr, the people echoing this nonsense are pretty much shippers.
With that said yeah, I do think it's worth addressing the soldier aspect. First off, if we're talking cops, why is Bryce, pleasant but forgettable minor NPC, inexplicably popular in this fandom despite them being an actual crownsguard of an actual authoritarian government. Like are all fictional cops bastards or no (fwiw my opinion is no, because the context of the world in which they exist is extremely important; I'm just pointing out the inconsistencies)? But also...I've run into this with Worlds Beyond Number too, and it actually came up on the Fireside chat, but there are words people hear (empire, religion, soldier) and automatically go "BAD BAD BAD" and don't spend any time thinking about how we've come to these conclusions. And for what it's worth I think Empire is always ultimately going to be bad because of its source in conquest; religion is neutral with the potential to harm or hurt; and soldier is deeply contextual and inherently gray; but all are very valid things to explore in fiction, where the war crimes and abuses aren't real. I remember seeing a take about Candela Obscura shitting on how half the party is former soldiers, and like...the messaging of this season of Candela is undeniably about the immense psychological damage of war, and the soldiers were defending their home against a colonizing force rather than doing any sort of invading, but some people are so high on a paper-thin unexamined concept of what I presume they tell themselves is leftism that they cannot see that. Orym's husband did not die trying to invade a nation for their oil. He died because people trying to unleash a horror ran an attack on their town as a practice run. Orym's experience as a soldier has always been one of defense, never conquest or destruction, and that is important to understand. It doesn't mean that in the future Zephrah couldn't become an oppressive power (and various worldbuilding in Exandria does explore the idea of small community watches or protective guards growing deeply corrupt or expansionist over time, but god knows the people saying this shit have the lore knowledge of a dead pigeon), but the aspects of being a soldier he is engaging with are those of personal sacrifice and protecting one's own, not killing for resources or ideology (which, let's be real, is usually an excuse to take the resources of those you disagree with).

Wait doods... what if those other names in Luds' notes are of Architect Arcanes from other flying cities? Bc as far as we know, nobody except the ring knew about Laerryn's inventions or studies, hell people from Avalir barely knew what her regular work entailed.
There's only three names there but the three most relevant flying cities were Aeor, Avalir, and Zemnia — at least that we most often hear of.
Why the Architects? We clearly see "his" machines did something to the leylines and those people would be the ideal ones to contact (whenever, however it is he planned to do that, idc), giving their work material was leylines and ether gathering — and however they/that relates to the divine gate, maybe; Avalir's whole shebang with the extending lifespans unnaturally that Brennan didn't tackle in the game; whatever nightmarish horror show Aeor was up to.
Though one way to refute the anonymity of her plans would be if Aeor successfully infiltrated and discovered her plans and studies, and this is how Bolo is involved—

Do you have favorite episode of the mighty nein?
im actually not rly sure about specific episodes but i have favourite "arcs" not sm the official ones but like, sequences of episodes.. like from 27/28-33ish is peak nostalgia weirdsad comfort to me. like the stakes suddenly feel very real and everyone just kind of leans into eachother for comfort and i love it. i love the guests at that point too (nila and keg) and of course, cad introduction. and i love the weird clunky travel down to the coast and how the sea opens up before them and they just mess around on the beach and then meet marion. thats so super nice :'''' ). also the episodes ive just been watching 72ish-76 (maybe more but idk yet) at the moment, i love the arc for fjord and the focus on cads family folklore and quest and also i love reani and theres just some really great moments (the dragon, cads commune with fjord and talk about destiny, meeting the dusts and the realisation that the clays had actually been there years ago, also the ep im on they played beer pong lmao) also i like the medieval fairytale legend vibes of having a dragon breathe on a material to reforge a rly cool sword. i also rly like parts of the aeor arc, because of the cosmic horror it rly leans into, and lucien is so good. i like the angst and drama of it all, and also really like cold and arctic and mountain settings in stories a lot. also the annihilation vibes in it a little bit is fun (the big screaming creatures, the books) . im not there on my rewatch yet so i wonder how my opinion will change when i get there. im surprised how much i love the current "arc" (second one i mentioned) i guess i just forgot, but its been rly good

It's December, I'm cold, now thinking about Molly and Jester and just tieflings in the snow. Sure, Cad has one (if I remember), but he's fuzzy.
Anyways, Tiefling specialty Tail-Socks? It an extremity! What if it gets frostbite and falls off??? The horror.

sorry I got sidetracked but...no tail for poor deuces :(( At least he doesn't have to worry about it getting cold though, and I do love that he's very fuzzy!! Definitely stays warm and cozy in the winters.
But yes tiefling tails!! I am picturing Molly/King and Jester with little socks or mufflers for the tip of their tails. (Maybe Essek can knit them some??) Aeor must have been just awful, they deserve to stay nice and warm in the arctic.
Also, speaking of tiefling tails and staying warm, one solution is that alternative Molly design I've seen from some artists, and I just love it!! You can see it in Mollymauk's tarot cards and his T-shirt design, for instance--that variation where Molly's tail seems all soft and fluffy on the end, I just adore that idea, it makes him look even more adorable :'))
#the thought of molly having kind of a lion tail where the end is just fluff makes me very happy i think its a fun alternative#but yes let molly and jester have little tail socks!! they need to be cozy#also i picture molly just like. always warming his tail by caleb's fire and him and jester being extra cuddly

The Mother Wolf pushes herself under Shrub until the gnome was riding her, and the wolves all snarled at the demon.
"This is your defense? Dumb little gnome, no wonder all your people fell."
Shrub winces, starting to tear up again, but the dire wolf nudged her, nodding to the demon, and Shrub felt a burst of strength. Not as much as Xornoth provides, but enough for her to keep fighting, to not give up.
"My people fell because of you. Not because they were too weak. But because you didn't give them a chance. But you made a mistake giving me a chance. Because I'm gonna take you down!" She pulls out her bow, shooting an arrow at him that bounces off harmlessly.
"Oh really. With what? Mortal arrows and little puppies? Good luck."
The wolves start lunging at the demon, who swipes them away effortlessly, causing them to whine with yelps of pain.
"The wolves chose to protect me." She declares, glaring at him while the wolves snarl, continuing to try to bite at him.
Xornoth scoffs. "The wolves are fools." He pulls out his scythe and swings it, multiple wolves falling to the ground dead in an instant.
Both Shrub and the Dire wolf let out respective screams and howls of rage.
"Leave them alone!" The gnome insists, but the demon just shrugs.
"You can attack them too. You know you want to."
She became aware of the voice in the back of her mind, telling her to plunge an arrow in the back of the dire wolf and join the demon. Her hand hovered above her quiver of arrows for an instant, and she stared at the hand in horror. She couldn't!
For a moment, she was ignorant to any other sound but the blood rushing through her ears. It was so much louder now...so much louder than it was even this morning. It scared her...so much.
The demon grins, locking eyes with the gnome. "There's no point in resisting. It will be less painful this way."
She noticed he was creating corruption under her. It was climbing up, wrapping around her legs, as well as Mother Wolf's paws.
The demon was in her head again, she could hear him whispering in her head. "Join me, I will give you power even stronger than before." She feels the strength for a moment, and it felt....good..
Mother Wolf nudges her, snapping her out of the trance like state Xornoth had put her in.
She was still dazed, feeling the corruption trying to convince her to go with him.
She started to give in, felt her body relax, giving in to the corruption, before a cold breeze blew her back.
"Leave her alone." Scott commands, golden antlers glinting on his head.
The demon grins. "I don't think so. She's my puppet, and always has been. Attack." He commands Shrub, and the voices in her head scream at her to comply. She pulls out her bow, arrow ready to fire, but something held her back. Something was still resisting.
She could hear Scott and Xornoth arguing from what felt like miles away, but she couldn't focus on that.
The wolves were surrounding the two, chewing away at the corruption, while the dire wolf was trying to reach her head back to Shrub.
Shrub drops the bow, letting it land in the grass, arrow next to it, and she wraps her arms around the Mother Wolf's neck.
The wolves free the two from the corruption, and she catches Scotts eye, sees him nod, and she leans her head further into Mother Wolf, towards her ear. "Do you think you can take me to Rivendell?" She asks politely.
The dire wolf nods once, and takes off towards the mountains, their pack following behind.
The gnome hears Xornoth call after her, hears him in her mind, but she does her best to block it out.
She was not going to be his puppet again. She had friends who were defending her.
Mother Wolf takes her across Rivendells bridge, and she stops beneath the statue of a deer.
He was gone. Xornoth wasn't there anymore. She couldn't hear him or the corrupted voice telling her to hurt and kill.
"Aeor protects these lands. He can't influence you here." Scotts voice comes from behind her. Seems he followed soon after the two took off.
She clumsily gets off Mother Wolf, staring at the floor. "..I...I'm sorry.." she mumbles, and Scott puts a hand on her shoulder.
"Don't be. It's not your fault. It's his." He tries to comfort, but the gnome just looks away, disgusted with herself for almost giving into him.
Scott frowns, observing her. "He still has hold on you, doesn't he? Gem said that you were free of corruption, but she didn't get all of it, did she?"
Shrub reluctantly shakes her head, tears slipping down her face.
"Hm. Let me see if I can help." He takes her hand, leading her to a church, which on the way he called "The Church of Aeor."
"W..what are you going to do to me? You won't...make me your puppet instead...right?" She asks timidly, and Scott shakes his head, eyes wide.
"No of course not! I'm the good version. I'm going to see if Aeor can heal it." She gives him a puzzled look and he sighs. "Nevermind. Long story. I don't quite know how to do this but, let's...give it a try."
He folds his hands, closing his eyes.
"Aeor, please uh...clean and protect this gnome from the corruption of Exor and defend her from the influence from his champion, Xornoth." He mumbles, and for a second she wondered if she saw him glowing gold, and then she felt all warm and tingly and giggled a bit because it tickled.
"Woah!" She laughs, and Scott looks at her, head tilted with confusion. "Oh uh.." she looks away embarrassed. "I think that worked?" She shrugs
"Great! You know, Gem said she wanted to have a meeting here to talk about I think specifically you being better, but since you were gone she was going to postpone it. I'm going to tell her you're here and to continue with the meeting."
Shrub gasps, eyes wide. "So I'm gonna have to...stand in front of...everyone?" She whimpers nervously.
Scott gives her a warm smile. "Don't worry. It sounds like you have plenty of people, and animals," he glances at Mother Wolf and her pack, "protecting you. So you'll be fine."
She nods ".. Alright."
"Well, you look like you need to freshen up." He teases with a grin, leading her to his house so that she could prepare for the meeting.
