Just watched Chapter 14 of Legion. Amy was an underdeveloped character who was completely forgotten about until mid way through the season (to the extent I at one point thought they had actually literally forgotten about her) and as a result her death in Chapter 13 lacks the emotional punch it could have had; it's devastating to see David's reaction to the loss, but we don't see enough of Amy to fully feel her loss ourselves.
Chapter 14 is clearly an attempt to rectify this - with David trying a failing to create an alternate version of reality where things for Amy and him are better (which is not at all clear, I only know this is the case because I read a recap after, watching it I thought it was just a peek the multiverse as a random framing device). We still largely see Amy as how she related to David and don't really learn more about who she was as a person outside of theur relationship. However, the thread that does run through all the different versions of her we see (bar the version in the millionaire David universe) is the love she has for her brother and how she will do all she can to try and care for him. Is it a bit of a gimmick to try paper over the problem of our lack of connection to Amy rather than fixing it? Yes. Did it still absolutely get me emotionally and cause me to cry? Also, yes. Not least because of Katie Asselton's excellent performance. Say what you will about Legion, the acting is all round phenomenal. I don't think I've watched a show before where I've ended up googling the actors because I want to see more of them.
On a different note - knowing now these are alternate realities created by David, I have so many questions about the reality where he's almost attacked by droogs. Does A Clockwork Orange exist in the Legion universe and if so is David a fan? Was that reality a self insert fan fiction? If it doesn't exist does this mean David is the author of it in the universe of the show. I know it is a fun homage and reference not meant to be analysed and that's how I took it when I thought it was a standard multiverse scenario. But David creates these realities and that casts the reference in a very different light (I'm not criticising btw, I think more multiverse media should throw random homages to creators favourite films in there)

David Haller Regression Headcanon/ Moodboard
This has been at the back of my mind since season 3, the way he calls his mother "Mama" and in general the way he acts towards her is very babie. Honestly it's likely in canon that David is an involuntary regressor or has a child alter already. David would range in regressed age wildly sometimes into his teens but mainly he stays between one (or less) and three. Legion being a vintage universe he loves sesame street and the electric company. Putting him in front of the tv is an easy way to get some peace because he is one chaotic baby. He makes messes, throws things, and loves to play hide and go seek at inpppertune times. For all his trouble he's a very loving boy and loves making friends. Anything with stars or stories about space will totally enrapture his attention, as will playing with King, his imaginary dog.
I see Syd as trying to deal with him while regressed but ultimately being his caregiver is too much responsibility for her so it falls to Amy or to the rest of the Summerland team to take care of him. He's very quick to trust when regressed so this works out. And when he's not regressed he does his best to take care of Syd when she eventually starts to explore pet dreaming/ rp (cat).

I got tagged by @bat-cactus to name four characters that match my energy (thank youuu)!! This was definitely a tricky one, but here we go:
1. Harry Haller (Steppenwolf) (yes I am picking a book character, no you are not allowed to criticize me over it)
2. C3PO (Star Wars)
3. Rinko Yamato (Ore Monogatari!!)
4. Amy Santiago (Brooklyn 99)
EDIT: Honorable mentions are Edward Little (The Terror) and Ishmael (Moby Dick) because I sure am a melancholic man at sea.
I am tagging anyone who wishes to be tagged, but @sorrel-ly, @cadmusfly and the nuclear family @starsreside @thedisasternerd and @elkehaien specifically!

While Chanukah isn’t a terribly major or important holiday in Judaism, this seems like a good time to dive into David’s cultural background in a little more detail across a few verses because the prevalence of Christmas in society and his interaction with it as well as his level of awareness of Judaism across verses.
As a reminder, David is canonically Jewish on his mother’s side of the family with Gabi being a German-Jewish Holocaust survivor. There was a change made to this for the FX show, but I do not align with that change.
There are essentially 3 family units that David is raised by depending on the verse: By the Hallers, by Charles alone, by Charles & Erik together.
By the Hallers: In these verses, David is raised Reform in the midwest. For the most part, religion is a part of life, but it’s mostly an obligation. David likely is conversant in Jewish traditions and readily identifies as Jewish, but does not necessarily have a deep understanding of his faith. It’s unlikely that he keeps kosher (or that anyone in his family would be), and he likely is primed for all milestones and celebrates all holidays, but he is also fairly enmeshed in American culture at large so he and Amy are probably allowed to engage with Christmas material, and he can list every holiday special and Christmas song.
By Charles: Since various versions of Charles are generally atheists, and Charles himself is not Jewish, this is likely the verses where David has the least connection to Judaism as a religion. As an ethnic and cultural background, Charles takes it very seriously that David should understand where he came from and what Gabrielle went through. He’s not dismissive of the religion, but at the same time, Charles is a step removed from the culture and is already pretty disengaged from David. These are likely the verses where David has the least connection to his Jewish identity and might well be embarrassed by that around other Jewish characters. They probably didn’t celebrate Christmas until/unless the school is open and then it’s very much a celebration of all holidays.
By Charles & Erik: This is probably where David has the widest breadth of knowledge about Judaism both as a religion and as a culture. Erik, of course, takes it very seriously and would insist on David knowing what’s what even without Gabrielle being part of the equation. That said, Erik also cycles through difficult emotions when it comes to his identity and that likely means that there are periods of time where they don’t observe holidays or attend services so it’s not super consistent, but David would be most likely to understand the cultural resonance of Judaism.
Obviously there are other circumstances and such that can impact this including the fact that I more or less accept that David probably never made his Bar Mitzvah, for example, because of his deteriorating mental health at the same time, but depending on the thread and verse, David will pretty much always identify as Jewish while also potentially fumbling with what that means.

Good guys
I haven’t posted about Legion in a while as I was on trips for the ending of last season and beginning of this so I wasn’t watching it live. It’s always harder for me to react when I binge something. It was especially hard with this one as I wasn’t sure what to think.
On one hand we saw David cross a moral boundary that made it hard to root for him. Even if I could understand how he could justify this - from his point of view the evil being who ruined his life had brainwashed his love and this was nothing more than when he took that delusion from their minds and destroyed it. How they could turn on him to that. But this time Syd was convinced not brainwashed. This time he did the wrong thing. Like Trish he is confronted with his deeds. He is the bad guy and he only gets worse this season.
He creates a cult around himself to have bodies that would die protecting him. he keeps them attached by drugs. He kills anyone in his way indiscriminately. All the while telling himself he’s a good person and deserves love. Even the voices in his head know this is delusion.
Sill, it was also hard to root for Division 3 people too. The way they are all so certain he’ll destroy the world in the future and must be stopped that they let a monster who created this problem run free. They let man who made David who he become by taking away everyone he loved ones by killing and manipulating people just go with no repercussions. David might’ve enjoy that use of his powers that puffed all these soldiers but Farouk was ultimately one pulling the trigger. And that’s even without what he did to Oliver and Melanie. I half suspected he was manipulating Division 3 people and was going to take over Charles in the end.
His change of heart is not very well shown. Yes, he kept saying he cares about David but at the same time he murdered his sister, tortured his friends and was ultimately responsible for his delusions of grandeur. His main advice almost to the end was that they are like gods making their own rules and other, lesser people were just a hindrance. When did he change into live and let live kind of guy?
But this season was about a chance of second, better life. Of another try that lets you make better choices. Maybe he will free all these mind trapped inside other skulls. And Amy and Lenny are never going to meet him. Oliver and Melanie are going to be fine.
I suppose maybe after everything else failed this season. After trying to make David respond to his proclamations or making him do what he wanted and failing. After seeing David who would rather destroy the world and himself than have anything to do with him. I suppose that might’ve been enough to try choosing another way. At least for now.
