The Fenton Ghost Portal causes a Ghost Zone population boom.
So common headcanons are that the presence of ectoplasm upon death is what creates ghosts and that natural portals to the ghost zone can open spontaneously with some places being 'thin spots' where portals open more often. Thin spots and natural portals are generally headcanonned to be pretty rare resulting a very small chance of any death forming a ghost. Amity Park is often headcanonned as a 'thin spot' with this being the reason that the Fentons moved there and the reasons behind it having native ghosts like Sydney Poindexter and the Lunch Lady. Amity Park is frequently headcanonned to have unnaturally high levels of 'ambient ectoplasm' post Ghost Portal activation because of the Fenton Portal radiating ectoplasm/being Phantom's Haunt/all of the visiting ghosts/from being transported to the Ghost Zone.
Combining these headcanons leads to two logical conclusion. One: that the majority of Amity Park Residents return as Ghost upon death. Two: that having so many new ghosts forming is actually very unusual and results in an not insignificant increase to the ghostly population.

A cursed game
Ectoberhaunt 2022, prompt: Scream, “Pssst, you’re dead. Pass it on.”
Summary: There's a game that's running around in Amity Park that apparently claims the life of the one who losses it.
Content Warning: Death
0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o
No one is sure where it all started, it seemed like an innocent kids game, and apparently it was if the fact that every single teenager and child was going along with it, and no adults were having any problem with it, if only that they were all too interested in it, but then again, it was causing no problems so who cares? Apparently they should’ve cared, for after the third day that a kid was found sick and couldn’t leave their bed all that time was found dead.
Everyone knew each other in Amity Park, it didn’t matter that they were a considerable city, they still were all a close knitted community, and the death of a child left ripples that everyone felt. Everyone thought that the cause of death was the illness that the child had, and the autopsy did indeed reveal that the fever the child had got too strong and ended up causing many of their organs to fail. The family of the child made a funeral after their child and the school they went to made a 1 week quarantine for all the students and members of the faculty in order to prevent the illness the dead child had to spread among themselves.
It was 2 weeks later when a teenager this time died, in an accident instead however, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of the city wasn’t left unnerved. Said teenager, a member of Casper High and of the same level as one Jazz Fenton, was found dead seconds after they fell down the stairs and no one was close enough to prevent it from happening. When everyone was grieving the loss of the young ones, the pattern was revealed, when that game began once more even though everyone was grieving and no one should be in the mood to play it.
The game was simple, you just had to scare someone bad enough to make them scream, and once they’re done with it whisper in their ear, ”Pssst, you’re dead. Pass it on.” Once that was done you have 3 days to pass on the curse before it would claim you. At first everyone thought that it was a joke, but after 2 people were found dead and the game continued regardless, it was deemed suspicious enough that everyone became wary of it, and even tried to stop the game altogether by having one of the eldest people in the area of Casper High to bear the curse. 3 days later they died of a heart attack, and not even a week afterwards the game began anew.
Everyone was on edge now, and they all kept tabs on who was the bearer of the curse as well, no one wanted another one of them to die after all, and as such an agreement was made that everyone would take a single day with the curse before passing it on to somebody else, and keeping that strategy seemed like a good idea considering that the first time the game was played, the curse was managed to be pass around for about a month after all.
One day however, something unexpected came to be, someone came with a thought, an idea, one the hopefully would be able to succeed and get rid of the curse once and for all, however in order to try it out they would need to ask for some information, some help, and hopefully a volunteer as well. The thought was, “What would happen if a ghost bore the curse?” That was an outlandish thought, but one that was worth considering, and as such the quest for any ghost information that would be useful for their conundrum began with the fact that the Fentons didn’t have any knowledge on the specific field of curses and how they interact with the dead. If it weren’t for the fact that 3 people have died already they wouldn’t even believe in it, but the facts spoke for themselves and there was nothing they could do to deny such a thing other than expanding their fields of study to learn about curses as well.
Danny went ahead and traveled to the Infinite Realms and talked with as many ghosts as he could in order to learn about the topic as well, the most useful beings with which he spoke being Pandora, Frostbite, Clockwork, Desiree and, funnily enough, Johnny 13. What they all said to him could be boiled down to “Curses on the living have a different effect on the dead, in your case they would incite a ghost to Fade away, since unless it was something made by an ancient they wouldn’t be powerful enough to affect the core of a ghost and end us.” And as such Danny began plotting his scheme. Or more like let his friends plan it for him, for even though he’s not a dumb kid by a mile, he’s better at improvising things on the fly than making plans ahead of time.
Danny’s plan was simple, since he’s a halfa and is technically immortal (Thank you Clockwork and Frostbite for that bout of existentialism), then he would be able to bear the curse and take it with him everywhere, effectively ending the curse once and for all since it would never be able to complete itself for it to begin a new cycle with a poor random soul. And if he could get the help of Frostbite to get rid of it for good, then that would be for the best.
As such Danny, as Phantom, announced that he would offer himself as a sacrifice for the curse since, in theory, it wouldn’t be able to kill him since he’s already dead. He stood there, waiting for someone to jump on him or scream to his face or something, however nothing prepared him for an ecto-blast to fly right by his face from behind, brushing his cheek and leaving a small mark in it. Danny didn’t let out a big scream, but it was enough for the one that stood behind him with an ecto-gun to register it as the requisite to pass on the curse.
“Psst, you’re dead. Pass it on.” And like that the baton of the curse was given to one Danny Phantom, who immediately left the scene in order to get to Frostbite and Pandora, both of which would be able to lift it or get rid of it once and for all. Pandora’s Box ended up being the solution to the problem, for curses count as an evil that must be contained, and as such once presented before her and her most precious possession, she turned the switch at the bottom of her box to “Reclaim”, opened it, and let the curse be taken inside it in order to be contained forevermore. There was no need to test Danny’s immortality against a curse that in theory would be able to affect both ghosts and humans.

Ambient Amity or the real monsters are human
Or where since their is a lot of ectoplasm surrounding amity, it’s most likely that the people will become ghosts if they pass. So let instead of Danny fearing experimentation, let it be one of the Fenton parents or one of the G.I.W agents. One of them dies, and the other person does not recognize them or is convinced that they are evil and believe their unsound beliefs that ghosts can’t feel pain. So the adult becomes the lab rat, realizing that their bias is unsound, but they are currently a lab torturee.
Doesn’t have to be a dp crossover fic, but it’s an interesting idea worth exploring..

It's Danny's first time doing his taxes, and he's reaching out to an online friend to help him. This is how he discovers that as far as the rest of the world is concerned, Amity Park is a barely contained zombie outbreak.
He'd made an online friend, Bart, and they played video games a lot.
Danny's fulltime job is inventing alongside his parents, and as that makes him self-employed (he doesn't work for his parents just next to them), this makes his taxes a little...scary. And it's his first tax season.
He reaches out to Bart, and asks if he knows anyone who files as self employed and if they'd be able to give him some guidance.
He can't ask his parents because, apparently, they've just been throwing random numbers on the papers and have no interest in actually doing them. Danny would like to do this properly.
Also he would like to know how his parents haven't been arrested? Questions for later.
So he shoots a message to Bart, who's apparently in the middle of some sort of sleepover with all of his old friends. Bart assures him that it's fine, and they'll all pitch in to help.
They just need to know his city and state so that the nerd of the group, some guy named Tim, can look up local state and city tax law.
When he tells them he's from Amity Park, there's no response for a good ten minutes.
What follows is a barely legible request for a phone number to call, and a group of people on the other side shouting and asking how he's avoided dying in the hellscape zombie apocalypse that is Amity Park.
Danny has no idea what the other shit means, but he's not about to dodge a chance to make a dead joke when he has one.
"I mean. If you wanna get technical, I didn't. Is...that something that'll effect my taxes?"
OR: The GIW has been lying to keep the Justice League and Justice League Dark out of Amity Park by declaring it a Disaster Zone, stating that not only is there massive pollutants in the air and soil, but that the undead run rampant and are barely contained. The wording they use, however, is a little weird upon closer inspection. It never specifies zombie, and it never says what pollutants. Danny's not super interested about that, though; he just wants to pay his taxes so that the IRS doesn't kill him in his sleep.

Dp x Dc prompt 7
(most likely a limital!amity park)
a feud between Amity Park residents and the Justice League but it's one sided.
any time an Amity Parker goes out of town and ends up in a location where the Justice League gets called or any member gets called, an Amity Parker Will Take Care Of It.
Amity Parkers have dropped-kicked Lex Luther, ganged up on the Joker, punted Mister Mind, and more.
The Justice League and Villains are desperately trying to find out What Their Problem Is for different reasons.
When confronted, the answers vary but a concerning consistency is "If our dead teenage superhero can take care of world-ending threats by himself, we can take care of the little things."

DC X DP FIC,, THING
Based in the Allegheny AU from this post.
Danny had a plan. It was not a good plan, in fact, he was pretty sure this was the worst plan he could have come up with. You see, he knows others have tried this, and he knows that they failed. But Danny's different, okay? He's got the panache, the oomph, the moxie - he's a dumb teenager, and he's leaving. He's taking Sam, and Tucker, and Vlad, and Ellie - fuck, Ellie - and he's leaving. It's going to work. It has to work.
He's stayed up for two weeks straight, coming up with ideas and strategies with Tucker. He's prepped with Sam, leaving her in charge of all the physical prep involved. He's told Vlad to pack up and be ready.
Tonight's the night. Tonight they were going out through the Southside woods - the ones with the least amount of agent traffic and the most danger. It was the only way (Tuck had run the numbers.) Originally, they weren't supposed to leave until next week, but the GiW had come far to close to wait any longer.
He almost got caught - Danny had almost got captured. They couldn't wait any longer. So Danny took his designated bag, strapping it against his back. He took Ellie's hand, and he snuck them off to the designated meeting place. Sam was the only one there when they arrived, chouching in a shroud of darkness over the additional run bags. It only took a few minutes for Tucker and Vlad to join them.
"We must go, I tried to lose them but I may still have been followed." With that, they took off into the woods.
~~~
There was a buzzing sound that had only gotten worse through the years. It was driving Clark insane - he had to find it. Noone else in the league (besides Bruce) had really believed him, pushing it off as electrical wires and such. And yeah, Clark could hear those - but this was different! This was worse! It was somewhere between high pitched and warbling and it was just constant.
Clark was going to find that noise. He was going to do it tonight even if it took until the sunrise. He didn't need sleep! It's not like he would be getting any with the ringing in his ears!
What used to be a simple one pitched hum turned into a three pitched wail (sometimes four) and it was going to be what made Superman evil. Superman couldn't be evil, so finding the source it was! Clark had managed to narrow down the general location, Americas, Midwest, isolated, ending in Illinois, but when he looked for it in a map nothing came up. There was literally nothing there, not even from salitlites. Maybe it was a natural phenomenon? (He hoped not)
He followed that god awful noise till he reached something that surprised him. A full fledged settlement, one that didn't show up on anything he had every seen before. The town was in a black out, the only light being that of a spinning spotlight in the center. He didn't know what to make of it.
Clark could hear the footfalls of patrolling men - soldiers, ones with guns of some kind. He could hear the resting hearts and breathes of the residents. He could hear the small group making a break for it in the woods.
Why was a small group fleeing?
I love when Danny Fenton is absolutely horrifying to anyone that lives outside of Amity park. Like everyone that knows Danny thinks he's a small, cute, kinda akward cinnamon roll, but when outsiders see him it's just an cryptic, eldrich monstrosity imposing as a child.
He stares at you and it's like you're stuck in a nightmare you'll never get out off. Those aquatic blue eyes feel like the deepest, darkest part of the ocean and you're drowning in them and suffocating.
He says something completely normal but you can't help but fliching, like there's static lacing his voice and a certain sharpness with every word He says. He continues talking but you feel like there's hundreds of fingers scratching chalk boards at the same time.
He looks completely fine, handsome even. But you can't help but feel unnerved. You look closer and see things unearthly, like how his teeth are to sharp; How his ears are a bit to pointy; how his skin looks far too pale and how they still say cool even in the hottest summers(not the normal kind of cool, an....unnerving kind of cold.); how his pupils are like a cat's, in the right conditions thin as a slit, like a snake's but even more dangerous somehow; How his hair seem to move on their own, even when there's no wind at all,it still flows a, soft, unearthly way.
He doesn't breath, he doesn't blink, he doesn't move, it's like he's a statue. He stands next to you and it's like the air goes cold, like all the sound and all the colour disappears. Like you've been thrown into a endless pit of suffering where the only thing to do is await your inevitable death. Then he leaves, and everything's fine again.
Short DP X DC Prompts #105
Bruce Wayne has been noticing a consistent odditiy in some of his employees. Things from being hyper vigilant, not acting even remotely surprised or scared in the middle of active gunfire, carrying very strange self defense weapons all by the same manufacturer, using slang terms that are completely foreign to any database he can find, and most of all: their eyes. He did blood tests on all of them. Every single one of them were human. So how can they make their eyes flash a toxic green? It seems to be a greeting of some kind. Both flashing their eyes green and smiling as they continue on with their day.
The only connection Bruce has with these employees is that they all had lived in the same town some time or another: amity park.
Outside the box
Ectoberhaunt 2022, Order side. Prompt: Box
Summary: Everyone jokes around about the Box Ghost when he’s present or whenever boxes are brought up for different reasons, however that doesn’t mean that they truly think so. Actually they’re relieved that the Box Ghost isn’t as ambitious nor as creative as he could be, for the definition of a box leaves a lot of room to play around, and the fact that he finds himself thinking inside the box is only good for any Amity Parker ever.
0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o
It’s joked around between anyone willing to talk about ghosts without going on a fervent rant about their non-sentience (Fentons) that the Box Ghost is a joke of a ghost and not much of a menace to the town, always talking about how scary he is despite not being able to inspire fear in anyone present at all. Cardboard boxes aren’t scary at all, and all that he does ever is move them around and throw them at people; sure it’s an inconvenience, but nothing to be scared about.
Of course those that know better are actually relieved, and enjoy said jokes as well, even if they dread the day that the Box Ghost smartens up and gets better. Amity Park already got a taste of that after the Pandora’s Box incident, and no one wants a repeat of that, but that’s not all there is to it. The ones who know better actually dread the day where the Box Ghost becomes a force to be reckoned with, his whole stick is controlling boxes after all, so all that he should do is recognize how vague boxes can be, and the day that happen the terror that everyone will feel will be worse than anything that anyone has ever felt before.
True, Cardboard boxes are the most common kind of boxes, and the Pandora’s Box incident was an one off, however there are many things that are boxes as well, such as any room inside any kind of building, many of which have a cubical shape as well and thus could be classified as boxes as well, so who’s to say he wouldn’t be able to tear houses and buildings apart from their base and throw them around if he ever wisens up and gains enough smarts?
Let’s not forget that he’s able to manipulate anything that’s inside of them, so in theory he would be able to control anything inside any building ever in existence, including space itself, thus trapping anyone inside their own homes for all eternity if he ever feels like doing so, or perhaps applying some kind of mind control or body control in order to force them who knows what.
And that’s only talking about the Big things, when talking about the small things, then who’s to say what he would be able to do as well, refrigerators and microwaves are boxes after all, and not only are they small enough that they’re manageable enough to be used in many circumstances, they also pack quite a punch when used as blunt weapons after all, not to mention that technically he would be able to control temperature as well if played enough with it and experimenting with the way those work.
But by far the scariest thing that everyone can think about him, and what everyone dreads the more, the one that would instill terror in everyone no matter who they are, is what would happen if the Box Ghost realizes that he can treat reality as a 3 dimensional coordinate chart and create his own boxes using certain points in the space as the edges of the box. If he ever thinks of treating reality as one big mathematical problem, then he would unlock the ability of treating reality as just one simple box to manipulate to his liking. No one would be able to stand in his way.
So yes, everyone makes jokes about the Box Ghost regarding how stupid he is and how not scary he acts despite trying his best to be so, however they’re all also very, very, VERY thankful that he isn’t that smart, otherwise things would’ve turned for the worse a long time ago, and no one wants to give someone like that so much power.
I am all for danny feeling guilty about opening the Portal, but he shouldn't bear all the guilt. There are two sets of people who should feel worse: the fentons and Sam Manson.
1- The fentons, while overzealous about them being right about ghosts,have essentially plagued the town of amity park with the spirits of the dead. To prove their biased theories are correct, they doom the town they live in. The town physical suffers from the incompetence of the Parental fentons. Also they had kids in a hazardous environment, they should have not and the fact that most of the cannon time their care about the ghosts over their own kids. While we may never cannonically know if the fentons visited Vlad post-portal, but I'd like to think that the only reason why both work (although with differences) is because of a sacrifice.
2- I'm not bashing and she could have been written better, but Sam manson is the reason why the Portal worked twice and even started the first ever record ghost attack. She essentially killed her friend twice once for fun, and the second for necessity. What ever trauma danny feels after the Portal opens should be on her. She essentially made him so unique to her standards, that when her parents called danny the bad influence, it should have been the other way around, Sam is the bad influence and they say that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I think Sam is more like parents than she realizes, she is constantly controlling her friends actions, dislikes when they spent time with others who they don't approve of and Sam even resorts to violence around them. And while Sam complains about her parents it's not the same for Danny who now has to fear for his afterlife around his parents new torture devices specially made to hurt him. Sam got a free ticket to an exciting life while essentially killing her best friend and crush (does that make Sam a necrophilliac?) and forcing him to suffer her mistakes..like Adam and eve, Sam bit the forbidden fruit now everyone suffers the consequences of her actions.
SIDENOTE: Does Maddie Fenton like stupid men that agree with her,like does she have incompetence kink, and that's why she never looked at Vlad because he was successful?
the ghost investigation ward suddenly closes amity park to the outside world and locks all it's residents inside after rounding those who worked outside of amity parks borders. Somehow they had tall walls and powerful glowing electrical fences placed directly on the edges of amity that had been sucked into the ghost zone in a very short amount of time.
Then,with very little warning , the power to the town was shut off. Danny was in class when this happened, before he could try to transform the giw used loud speakers to order the people of amity park to line up at the nearest giw tents set up so that everyone could be given a person tracker, refusals to comply would just mean no food or water until their demands were met.
As people began trying to use their phone many found that there were no signals, without power no computers worked, no water worked, refrigerators at home or in stores didn't work ,no air conditioning worked, and even amity park's hospital was not exempt.
Danny didn't try transforming , helicopters with giw agents were flying over the streets, individual giw agents with expensive looking jet packs were on roofs looking down at the people in the streets, Danny had even seen one agent appear out of nowhere so apparently they had some way of using invisibility, from the window of the class room he saw a agent in a power armor suit that seemed to mimic the one he had worn to fight pirah dark. The more he watched to more scared he got.
Later Danny was in a crowd with jazz in as they and many other people waited to get their trackers implanted. It had taken a week before people gave in,many already tired, thirty,and hungry. The crowd was beginning to be directed by agents to individual lines leading to tents, which were guarded by agents in super suits, men in one line, women in another,and children in the last.
in the children's line ,Danny watched as teens, preteens and younger were scanned by a scanner,photo graphed, and then given a bottle of water and some cheap dehydrated food before it was the next kid's turn. As much as he wanted to run and disappear he knew if he did the giws would withhold food and water again, so grimly he just stayed in line, occasionally walking forward as his turn seemed to rapidly approach. He tried not to think about what might happen to him when his turn came, he just felt numb with fear.
His parents had been the last holding out, resisting the giw,they likely could have gone longer but people are stupid and an angry mob almost formed ,many scared and angry people were just about ready to attack his parents,some people were blaming them for what was happening to amity park.
Privately Danny felt those people were right,that it was his parents fault,and he also felt like it was his fault for going in on a dare like a dumb.
If they had never been obsessed with ghosts this never would have happened, Danny thought as he stepped in front of a hanging height chart. A agent in a generic white suit stepped from behind a flimsy looking folding table with a scanner. Danny hoped the plasmis maximus device vlad had gifted to Danny a few days ago worked or Danny might be taken. He had used it on himself earlier and was currently unable to use his power,not that he wanted to use them at the moment,he was terrified the scanner would reveal him as a ghost and they would take him away. He shivered in fear, holding his breath as the scanner was waved over his body from head to toes and back a few times. It made brief concerning shrill little beeps around his head, torso and hands, but the agent just wrote something on a cheep clip board, snapped a picture of Danny, used a earring piercing device on his ear, which has him thinking of cows and the tags on their ears, making him think perhaps the giws thought of amity park residents as cattle, as property. The agent shoved a bottle of water in his hand and a small package of dehydrated food at him and called for the next person as Danny numbly walked towards his friends,who also had ear tags.
Many young children were crying and clutching their new unwanted accessories, Danny observed, their parents looking pale and nervous, unable to do more than hug their children.
It was hours later when the last man, woman and child was tagged that the giws announced that the power would be returned in the morning,that a mandatory cerfew was being inacted and people out and about would be monitored. That the giw wasn't the bad guy,they were doing this to protect the world.
Danny just hoped their was a escape from this nightmare,he may not be caught at the moment but the dread of being caught eventually was eating at him.
