Hell in this world, she would find an effective loophole in the modern era to defend her Incest by claiming that it's actually, "just a social construct" - and thus the shorthand implication thereby rendering something arbitrary and rudderless with unearned confidence. As if that actually meant something.

As if Social Constructivism was an the one and only immutable law (a concept itself rejects on principle by default) and not the bottom of the intellectual barrel of perspectives for information interpretation - or rather the the flagship school of thought for ideologues laundering nonsense into the academy by posing as faux intellectuals.

I'm just going to be impolite enough to say it:

To feel 'betrayed' that Muslims who take Islam seriously take it seriously in the bits that people deluded themselves didn't exist is to show that you project onto people and a culture things that they never said, never claimed to say, never will claim to say. They aren't betraying anyone any more than the Christians who hate queers and make this their spiritual 'if we deny this our souls burn in Hell' moment are betraying anything by those decisions.

Islam is not, in fact, an innately progressive force any more than it is an innately stagnant or regressive one. The resentment Islamists have of the modern era is that it went from an age of Muslim imperialism as the chief force in world affairs to them being hazard to the whims of others.

This is the reality of how other cultures actually work and it is not, in fact, sunshines and rainbows and Muslims that take power do not, in fact, have reciprocal obligations to people they consider anathema any more than a Christian would consider themselves obliged to a non-Christian who helped them out.

re: holodomor reblog i think the generic term 'genocide denial' is deeply pernicious because 'holocaust denial' is so heinous and an obvious declaration of genocidal intent precisely because the holocaust and its scale and intentionality is so well-documented at literally every possible level. the evidence is incontrovertible, and so the only possible way a denial of that can be interpreted is as a declaration that jewish suffering and death is fundamentally invalid, doesn't count, is even desirable. denying the holocaust is a statement of genocidal intent.

& so even if you do believe that e.g. the ukrainian famine or china's oppression of the uyghur people constitute a genocide, treating people (who often, you will find, agree on you on the majority of the established on-the-ground-facts) who don't think either of those things constitutes a 'genocide' as somehow equivalent to holocaust deniers is, like, tremendously and irresponsibly downplaying the magnitude of holocaust denial. & this is going to remain the case until people can come to understand genocide as a specific type of action rather than the extra special bad word for when a crime against humanity is Like, Really Bad This Time
