Just a thought I had while going home from school
In SSBU we see Fable (Legends Zelda) fight using magic
Fire balls to attack
A crystal shield that reflects attacks
Teleportation
And I thought that: what if she taught herself after Alttp/OoX/Albw?
I mean, we usually associate fire with warmth and light
And my brain made a connection to the lamp link gets in alttp and with which you lead Zelda through the dark sewers
So what if she taught herself fire magic in case she ever had to escape a dark room or tower again? And it also keeps her warm, no?
Then there’s also the shield
I haven’t played the oracle games yet but I’m pretty sure you have to fight twinrova
And if I use my knowledge from other Zelda games like Oot, where you also fight them. I remember there being a mirror shield with which you have to reflect the fire/ice attacks from one witch and then use that to hit the other. So if kotake attacks you, you have to hit Koume and vice versa
So
A magic shield that reflects projectiles makes sense
And teleportation
To that I don’t really have anything other than to escape from one place to another and try to not get transformed into a painting
Um.
Conclusion
I guess I just really like the thought that Fable didn’t wanna be a ‘damsel in distress’ anymore and wanted to be able to kick ass protect herself without the guy who’s rescued her three times already and sometimes isn’t there to defend her (alttp flashbacks) cuz he’s off saving the world
So yeah
Those are my random thoughts, thank you for reading this

Zelink Short Fic Collection
There are various reasons why people don't want to read longer fan fics. Having only a few minutes to kill, lacking attention span, or no energy to get invested in a deep plot are only some of them.
That's why I made a collection of (super-)short Zelink stories!
Reblog/answer this post with a link to your story that is zelink(-ish) and under 1000 words and I will add it to this post.
I’ve also set up a collection on Ao3 here. You can submit your zelink story if it's under 1000 words.
Too much text for a short fic rec list — here come the fics!!!

Thought I could trust a link to the past not to hit me with that Kill-Off-Link's-Father-Figure-And Throw-Him-Into-A-Quest-To-Save-The-World shit that ocarina of time did but then I'd be grasping for hope I don't deserve

The soft sound of scuffed heels echoed across tall stone walls, bouncing through the corridor. Link paused and looked up at the ceiling where tiny, glimmering eyes shone in the light of his lantern. They vanished into the darkness and he breathed in.
Wet fabric stuck to the undersides of his arms, rubbing the skin raw as he swung the lantern around to check the way he had come. Rainwater dripped from the ceiling, landing in a puddle that lit up when lightning flashed high above. Something scuttled on the edge of the firelight, tiny claws clicking along the stone.
Thunder rumbled and settled in Link’s chest. It held his lungs in its grasp, squeezing each tiny a bit of freezing water dripped from his hair and dragged an icy finger down his spine.
Just find the Princess, Link thought, taking another step into the darkness. Find the Princess and go home.
To the warmth of the hearth, the bed, the blankets.
He switched the hand holding the lantern, sighing as the thin, metallic pressure on his fingers eased. A stone slipped out from under his heel. Link shot an arm out, swallowing down a cry of surprise. His palm met cold stone and he shivered as the cold nipped at his skin, sinking into his bones.
More eyes peered out of the darkness. Link pulled closer to the wall; lantern held out defensively as his arm shook.
He didn’t know if it was from fear or the cold anymore.
Keep going, a voice murmured from the back corner of his thoughts. Keep going.
Link breathed in, straightened his shoulders, and tilted his chin up.
The cold of the wall soothed the burn in his fingers. He kept it there, using the stone as a guide as he walked, always on the lookout for anything that decided to get underfoot.
Another shiver ripped through his chest as he rounded a corner. Breathing in, Link tried to stop his chattering teeth—
“Link?”
His head shot up. Water rolled down the side of his face, curling down his chin, and dripping to the floor below.
A figure laid across the floor in the hallway of the dungeon, hand clasped over his chest, sword fallen to the side.
The lantern hit the ground and rolled as Link clasped his hands over his mouth.

Link's Awakening, its existentialism, and its hero's previous experiences, with the backdrop of Lír's speech on the order of things from The Last Unicorn.
Done for my free square in Banned Together Bingo. I chose the prompt “A Real Downer”.
Image description under the cut.
Image one: 7-Panel Comic. Panels 1-6 are arranged in a 2x3 grid, while panel 7 is a longer panel at the bottom. Images from A Link to the Past are in black and white pen, while images from Link's Awakening are in coloured-pencil.
Panel 1: Link is facing the camera with a neutral expression. There is a brown house and wooden fence behind him. Text: My lady, I am a hero.
Panel 2: Over-the-shoulder shot of Link watching Marin singing near the rooster's grave. There is a small, foxlike dog watching her as well. Text: It is a trade, no more, like weaving or brewing, and like them it has its own knacks and small arts.
Panel 3: Blind the Thief's monster form. Light is shining on him. Text: There are ways of perceiving witches.
Panel 4: The entrance to Misery Mire. Text: And of knowing poison streams.
Panels 5-7 are split between A Link to the Past scenes in black and white and Link's Awakening scenes in colour so that a rhombus is formed between them with the Link's Awakening Scenes.
Panel 5: Split between Moldorm's A Link to the Past design and its Link's Awakening design. Text: There are certain weaknesses that all dragons share.
Panel 6: Link handing a mushroom to Syrup the Witch, split between the Link's Awakening and the A Link to the Past designs of the mushroom. Text: And certain riddles that hooded strangers tend to set to you.
Panel 7: Link's point of view as he holds a lantern up, split between finding the Wind Fish tablet and leading Zelda through the Hyrule Castle sewers. Text: But the true secret of being a hero lies in knowing the order of things.
Image two: page two of the comic. Ten panels, with panels 1-9 on a 3x3 grid and panel 10 being a long panel below them. Scenes are still either black and white or coloured depending on which game they are from.
Panel 1: Link leading Zelda through the Hyrule Castle sewers. Text: The swineherd cannot aready be married to the princess when he embarks on his adventures.
Panel 2: Sahasrahla huddled in his cave. Text: Nor can the boy known on the witch's door when she is on vacation.
Panel 3: Agahnim closeup. He has his right hand raised as if holding an invisible ball. Text: The wicked uncle cannot be found out and foiled before he does something wicked.
Panel 4: Link's uncle slumped against the wall of the tunnel under Hyrule Castle, a pair of candles set into the wall above him and to the left. Text: Things must happen when it is time for them to happen.
Panel 5: Link fishing at the pond just north of Mabe Village with a troubled expression. Text: Quests may not simply be abandoned.
Panel 6: Link is still fishing, but he has turned his head to look at the Wind Fish's egg looming above the island on Mount Tamaranch.
Panel 7: Closeup of the Wind Fish's egg on top of the mountain. Text: Prophesies may not be left to rot like unpicked fruit.
Panel 8: Closeup of the Wind Fish's closed eye. Text: Unicorns may go unrescued for a long time...
Panel 9: Closeup of the Wind Fish's open eye. Text: ...but not forever.
Panel 10: Link and Marin sitting on a log and looking out to sea. Link is fully coloured, as is the sky and sea, but Marin is only partially coloured in, fading to lineart partway down her hair. The sand and log is uncoloured, and the log's lineart breaks up closer to the ground. The panel has no bottom. Text: The happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story.

LoZ AU- The Courage of Running Away Part TWENTY
I wanted to make this section a bit longer than it is but I have to go to bed earlier on Saturday nights for work and it’s a decent length anyway.  On the 29th I am 35, just like The Legend of Zelda!  I have been oddly giddy about this ever since realizing I’m six months younger than one of my favorite things.  XD
#AU August
#LoZ AU: The Courage of Running Away
Back in Hyrule Castle Town, Princess Zelda and Gray are having a relatively normal day out about town; Zelda Jr likes to take walks around the city and particularly likes to visit the local bakeries, flower shops and the potions apothecary closest to the castle, because the younger craft witch there answers all her questions and Zelda Jr has quite a few.
Tumblr media
[Image Description: A cute lady in a witch’s outfit and hat is gesturing to a conical flask with one gloved hand, cheerfully explaining its black, bubbling and sinister contents while Princess Zelda is listening intently, one hand to her chin thoughtfully.  Gray, meanwhile, has turned very thoroughly away from them and the viewer, rubbing the back of his neck, and appears to be sweating uncomfortably.  End ID.]
(Craftwitch is saying something like "but if you need this one we really recommend booking our overnight bed so we can monitor you, even if only for the emotional support")
It's while he's trying to not pay attention to the craft witch's potion explanations (they can get pretty TMI) that Gray realizes that he noticed some of the same people in the middle distance when they were at the flower shop, too, and-and wasn't that burly fellow buying a breadroll when they were at the bakery? He could swear he saw that woman with a scar at the seamstresses' place, even, where they were taking some of Link's clothes to be mended.
Tumblr media
[Image description: A woman in her forties with a formerly broken nose and a scar on the right side of her mouth, as well as more scars on her forearms.  Her left eye is brown, her right eye is bright blue.  She has black hair in an undercut and ponytail and two turquoise earrings in her left ear.  She is wearing brown gloves and a brown vest over a purple turtleneck with billowed sleeves, which end below the elbow.  She is holding a dark golden mask by her shoulder, of a stylized fox. End ID.]
I just wanted to have an interesting looking character to draw in this role I don’t know where this character design went off the rails lol
This group of characters is loosely inspired by the fox-thieves from ALttP, and call themselves by the same name, Pikku (which apparently comes from “pickpocket” lmao).  In CoRA they’re basically sellswords based in southern Hyrule and through most of Lorule.  This lady is more or less the ringleader of this specific group.
Gray leans in to Zelda's side and tells her, in no uncertain terms, that they need to get back to the palace NOW, probably giving her a code word that makes it clear to her that he's noticed something wrong. Princess Zelda responds by rather loudly suggesting that she would really like to see what's going on in the apothecary workshop, and the craft witch lets them sneak through the back door in hopes of throwing off the people following them.
It gets dicey.  The Pikku aren’t Shiekah, but they’ve stolen tricks from all over, and Gray is seventeen and less experienced by years, outnumbered, and trying to prioritize Princess Zelda over himself.  They’re finally driven into a corner, and all Gray can do is tell Princess Zelda to hold on to him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image Description: Gray uses a teleportation circle while Zelda clings to his torso as the Pikku, wearing their fox masks, are closing in.  In the wake of the teleportation circle’s lingering smoke, the woman with the scar turns to the burly man, who has muttonchops that show at the sides of his mask and is covering his hair with a bandana, and says, “Well, so much for the EASY WAY.” Meanwhile, King Aldway is writing at a small desk, sitting in a high backed chair.  Suddenly Gray and Zelda appear before him with a loud humming, landing from the teleportation spell.  “KIDS?!” Aldway shouts, standing.  Gray says, “Your majesty-” and is interrupted by Zelda, who says “Papa ALERT THE GUARDS, we were just ATTACKED-” She cuts herself off as Gray suddenly groans, curling down and grabbing onto her for support.  “GRAY!!” she cries, trying to hold him up.  Aldway joins them on the floor, putting a hand on Gray’s head.  Gray says, ragged, “I must’ve... taken a HIT from one of them without REALIZING...” Aldway answers him soothingly, “You did WELL, son, we’ll get you an ELIXIR.”  They are interrupted by a loud crash outside of Aldway’s study.  End ID.]
Aldway, for the record, does actually think of Gray as his other kid.
Don’t judge my fuckin woobly teleportation circle symbols I was doing this on a time budget and just looked up the Yiga circles themselves instead of the Hylian script letters that are supposed to make them up.  And the Yiga circles are fuzzy and hard to follow what the symbols are actually supposed to look like.  The Yiga clan exists in CoRA but has mostly reconciled with the Royal Family because the last time Ganon appeared in this setting is based on the events of AoC.
Anyway!  Sorry for it being this particular cliffhanger but this post is probably long enough!

Settlements in the Legend of Zelda game series
This is based off human (hylian, gerudo, sheikah, and other human ethnicities) and [total - all sentient lifeforms including goron, zora, picori, etc] - towns and villages. Because of the nature of the games I am defining settlements primarily as communities and/or societies. This is to include places such as Zora's domain, or the Kikwi, which don't have a traditional house-village structure.
This is based on the canonical, mainline games.
Things I am not counting: lone houses - such as the witch hut, or a stable (sorry lon lon ranch)
Settlements in places outside of hyrule (dark world, lorule, holdurum, etc etc)
Hyrule castle itself unless it is surrounded by a town, in which case I will count the town
temples
settlements that have been abandoned, or are discussed but are not part of the game/hyrule proper (such as wayaway from wind waker)
tloz1&2 : 7 - Ruto town, Rauru town, Saria town, Mido port town, Darunia mountain town, Nabooru village, Kasuto town
alttp: 1 - karakiko village
oot: 3 [6] - castle town, karakiko village, gerudo valley hideout, kokiri village, goron city, zora's domain
wind waker: 2 [4] Outset, Windfall, Forest Haven, Dragon roost
four swords: 0
four swords adventures: 2 - village of the blue maiden, gerudo village
minish cap: 2 [3] - castle town, wind tribe, minish village
twilight princess: 3 [5] - ordon village, hidden village, castle town, goron city, zora's domain
phantom hourglass: 3 [6] mercay island, molida island, isle of ember, isle of frost (×2), goron island
spirit tracks: 4 [5] aboda village, whittleton, anouki village, papuchia village, goron village
skyward sword: 1 [3] - skyloft, the kikwis in faron forest, the mogmas of eldin region.
albw: 1 - karakiko village
botw: 5 [9] - gerudo city, karakiko village, hateno village, lurelin village, tarrey town, zora's domain, goron city, rito village, korok forest
now if we take note, the vast majority of games include a hyrule where there's only 1-3 human settlements. it is ironically the games set later on in the timeline, botw and tloz1&2 that have the most human or total settlements.
it fluctuates a lot though, and i don't think we can dismiss sentient, non-human settlements because i feel like the existence of other sentient beings, and the presence of the goddesses creates a culture in tloz universe where hylians (and humans in general) aren't the natural "owners" of the land. they have no more dominion over the land than necessarily any other species, and as such land that isn't being exploited or used for hylian benefit isn't considered unused land that's up for grabs. there's so many hyrule fields and desserts and wild or natural spaces even in the pre-apoc hyrules. there's very few cities or wide, urban spaces because tloz society doesn't function in that manner, and urban or capitalist development isn't a real measurement for progress.
given that, the hero of hyrule doesn't live in an hellish, desolate wasteland. he has the most human settlements in the whole series and the second most overall settlements. like with botw his hyrule has many towns spread out over a wide expanse of wild land. there's ruins and monsters but thay's typical of a zelda game. and that's not only a perfectly valid lifestle, it's an ideal way of settlement, especially within the loz universe. so like maybe chill out about dunking on him, he can't help it that his games are hard
