assuming this is in relation to childe bc who the fuck else JWDJWJKDJKW anon im so sorry if not. also so so sorry for how out of hand this got. i am simply unwell about him.

But! Well. there certainly are thoughts

(obviously 4.6 datamine of arle SQ and her voicelines; This Will Not Spoil Anything Abt The Main SQ Plot, i only discuss the relevant parts. also some p Heavy negativity towards fanon ooc at the start youve been warned dont @ me)

(i mean i didnt even read anything of the SQ but The scene w childe so idek the main plot of the quest rly either lmao. tho go at ur own risk if u wanna check the dialogue out; its the 2nd quest log but it does hint at the greater story)

TLDR: how i feel abt his appearance in a vaccuum? quite solid despite the briefness, actually. accounting for the way fanon is 100% likely going to be reading into this and turning it into the Lets Infantilize Ajax Even More 2024 championship? conflicted.

in other words; a certified labyrinth warriors moment - theyve expanded on childes character in a very interesting and quite a compelling way and while i Do like the potential in what im seeing from hoyos end theyve also done it so that its going to be misinterpreted to hell and back by fanon so i kinda have an immediate jaded love-hate moment going on JJWJDKJDKJWJDWKJ

its literally just labyrinth warriors flashbacks - that event has some of my ALL TIME favorite insights into who ajax is and how he views the world and himself but when the event came out all everyone cared abt was to warp it into baby boy stuck in scawwy paper boy dungeon dehumanizes himself by calling himself a weapon and doesnt love himself he is such a sad trauma meowkitten 🥺🥺so yeah

bc like lets look at this properly for a bit; okay he went back to fontaine to look for skirk still somewhat injured and waa waa my 286 month infant baby cannot Make decisions like that!!!!!11! which is to say. i am tired of him getting this shit every time.

is it smart of him to get on the move immediately with just the bare minimum of rest? no. do i like that hes straining himself before proper recovery? not particularly no. do i feel the particular need to psychoanalyze this grown man and feared warrior whos 100% survived Way Worse in Way More Extreme Situations for it? hell fucking no.

so it seems that theyre going for the pulcinella-is-shady-about-ajax (and prolly his family) angle for good and like. personally for me as long as the only real source of that claim was scara (a cynical edgelord who doesnt believe in non-exploitative human relationships, mind you) i was rather skeptical towards just instantly drawing that conclusion, but well. with the scene in arles AQ it appears to be sth theyre building towards

i actually really fucking loved that scene bc while theres outsider perspectives (scara obvi; and even arles line for him has that vibe. and ppl still take that shit face value 💀💀) and a lot of fandom assuming childes like. completely clueless and naive and ignorant towards the potential risks involved with trusting pulcinella. this is actually a very clever demonstration of quite the opposite? and showcasing how despite his aversion towards schemes and lies hes still intelligent and knows the kind of people hes dealing with when it comes to his fellow harbingers

like. childe has a negative opinion of arle based on what pulcinella has told him about her because at face value many of her deeds are in heavy conflict with his values of loyalty and family. and because he does not have the further context behind her actions and what the HotH under her is really like. Obviously hed hold a very hostile and wary view towards arlecchino

(ESPECIALLY when with all this biased intel hes still going to run into kids from the house!!! and then hes going wtf? these are good kids. what the hell is that knave doing with them??? blink twice if you need help i will start a civil war for yall like thats how he is with kids!!!!)

so YES. pulcinella has given him if not false then at least misleading intel based on the political tension between himself and arlecchino and the wider HotH. and childes taken that at face value! sure! he is close with pulcinella of course he would!

BUT. THEN. he returns to fontaine and seeks arlecchinos help looking for skirk. and observes her behavior and modus operandi for himself as well as the kids. does he go "nah she must be just hiding the crazy evil shit i would never distrust pulcinella" and leave it at that when reality doesnt completely match his expectations?

NO. because when offered the opportunity through the traveler asking about the HotH childe immediately capitalizes on the opportunity to prod for answers and see if pulcinella is lying to him!!!!

and hes so fucking smart with the way he does it too???? i LOVE his intelligence. the entire thing is so simple yet elegant; it Completely relies on his reputation as the kinda gullible harbinger whod Never scheme or hide Anything to indirectly affirm or deny his suspicions. he doesnt Need to Pretend to care about the possibility of arle betraying the kids bc he genuinely does!! and when she pushes back against the accusation he doesnt Need to fake admitting to her that well, actually, its all just rumors so he could be completely wrong. and so on. like he navigates the entire thing so effortlessly. and whats the end result?

childe has Confirmation of pulcinellas possible ulterior motives in action AND that arlecchino is a much more reliable ally than he initially assumed. all the while appearing as just The Straightforward 11th. like obviously id need to hear it voiced first to be sure but in text it v much gives the impression hes almost kinda just. playing up the threats towards arle and being "dumb" on Purpose?? to get the answers he wanted out of arle without appearing like hes fishing for anything particular. and i just hhhhhhhhhhh

i love when he does this so muchhhh!!!!!! 😭😭 he doesnt need to become some machiavellian schemer to be able to strategize !!!!!! he avoids scheming bc he Dislikes it not bc hes incapable of it like this has Always been the case Since Liyue AQ and i love whenever they show that side of himm . my Beloved

so anyway. while i do still think the like "pulcinella is bad and has his family hostage" is still kind of a generic plotline and i hope the writing regarding the whole thing wont ultimately turn out to be sth That simplified and black and white. its p clear theyre doing Something with pulcinellas motivations and as they are. im Really glad theyre letting it show that childes not just some completely passive party being manipulated in this all. he Is thinking abt this stuff and his position among the harbingers. ig we shall see where it goes - not the greatest fan of the concept still, but canon text supports it becoming a thing way more than when it was just scaras word we had for it. hope theyll surprise me positively w how they go about it!

also loved arle and childe just shittalking the rest of the harbingers it was amazing. i wasnt expecting this kinda dynamic between them at all but its great lmao. also i wanna see childe hang out w the HotH kids

as for project stuzha; so we dont really get anything solid on it other than being summoned back to snezhnaya for it is apparently a Big Deal. but still very interested. let my man have his endgame significance Trust

childes appearance was obviously v brief ultimately but that was clear from his leaked linecount to begin with - i am pretty satisfied with what they seem to have done w him. like its not The Best but also i wasnt expecting his lore to get some massive expansion in another harbingers SQ . the worst i feared was that it was just going to be a flashback of arle returning his vision which did Not happen so massive W. i am super hyped to hear this scene voice acted proper and happy to see him again, i really hope he gets to appear at least once more in an interlude or dains quest or something before going on hiatus again but idk if thats too much to ask LKKWJDJWDJWD

For Nandor and Guillermo:

I feel like accessory to murder and cause of the murder counts, right?

Classic vampire/human who wants to be a vampire except there's an understanding in the show of how messed up that is, down to Guillermo helping chop up the bodies of Nandor's victims to hide them for him. Then there's the added wrinkle of Guillermo finding out he's a vampire hunter by blood and actually very good at killing vampires. There is more than one incredibly erotically charged scene with Guillermo holding a stake to Nandor's chest. Their dynamic is fantastically complex, from Guillermo starting as Nandor's somewhat disgruntled servant to him besting the vampire in combat and becoming his bodyguard, to Guillermo getting tired of waiting and getting another vampire to turn him leading to a long jealousy arc culminating in Nandor nearly killing him... there's just so much going on with these two. Nandor flew to space just to impress Guillermo. They do a number of heinous things to humans and vampires alike, but through it all they are so in love and so rich with pining. One of these days they'll kiss, I'm sure of it. It's just a monumental slow burn with many vampiric atrocities along the way.

They aren't romantically canon yet, but dear lord. Both are canon queer, Guillermo is specifically gay while nandor is mentioned to be pansexual in interviews. Yeah they are everything and nothing. They fought and can kill eachother but they literally can't do it emotionally. Also forbidden love trope, vampire x vampire slayer /familiar/ body gaurd / best man. They make me unwell.

For John and Jack:

So, they both are literal murders. One of them is a little bit more insane than the other. Okay, the little bit part is not right, totally insane that is John, yes. But gonna love him though. He had been in rehab for alcohol, drugs, sex and murder. Don't kiss him, he might be wearing poisoning lipstick. They are canon mlm. They had been stuck in a two week time loop for five years, which was like leading a married life for them. They didn't actually marry, but they were partners, both in business and sexually. They worked together for an time agency. Then Jack's memories of two years were erased and he left. He went into independent self deployment, doing scams using his knowledge of future events. After that he build an alien hunting institute in Cardiff, Wales. When John and Jack see eachother again after years, you don't know whether they will they kiss or fight. They do both. Did I tell you that along this story Jack became an inmortal who can't stay dead? No matter how or how often he dies or is killed, he keeps coming back to life. This is all very scraping on the surface, but oh boy, would it be at least a novella to describe them.

They worked together in the Time Agency where they did horrible things to the extent where Jack had two years of his memory stolen so that he couldn’t know what he’d done. They were also in a time loop together for five years where they canonically thought of each other as the wife (John was a good wife :3), and were basically married. Then they had a divorce arc and they both separately went rogue from the Agency to become conmen, although they still worked together/clashed on occasions, always still with that spark of passion. “Frenemies with benefits” Jack called them once, although John preferred “my lover, my rival, my nemesis and destiny. And bane of my bloody life.” Canon finds us where Jack has tried to reform and be a better person, but John is still chasing cons, and all he wants to do is bring Jack back to the stars with him, back to the crime and the glitter of the galaxies (it doesn’t work and he shoves Jack off a building but Jack got himself immortal so he’s fine <3) anyway I am very normal about them xoxo

In John's introduction to the series he shows up on a roof where some guy is mugging someone, grabs him by the throat and dangles him over the edge of the building while this guy begs for his life before dropping him just because he felt like it. When John and Jack interact for the first time in the show there's a super cool guitar riff, very evil western vibes, they walk up to each other, look deeply into each other's eyes, make out, then start throwing punches to Blur's Song 2. In one of the audio dramas we're told about various times where these two conned people, stole a bunch of money and gold and gems and stuff, then had sex with whoever it is they conned before (sometimes) killing them. When Jack devided he was done and left John to die John escaped and married the queen of England (Victoria) then locked Jack up somewhere to take his life force and live forever, destroying the timeline in the process. John has tried to kill all of Jack's friends at least twice to have him all to himself. He found Jack's long lost brother and when the brother turned out to be a terrible person with a vendetta against Jack John did everything he could to save Jack. Their relationship is canon but very one-sided most of the time

More Elliot Manor thoughts, because I guess that's just where my mind's been lately

Last time, I wrote about how lonely Tessa's life must have been. I also have to wonder...why?

As far as I can tell, the Elliots were the wealthy aristocratic types. Traditionally, a family like this would have their daughter associate with children of other rich families from an early age. So why was Tessa brought up in such isolation?

One scene in particular makes me wonder if she had some kind of condition that prevented her from being around others, or was seen as a "flaw" by her parents.

First, it's just Tessa and J being kind of goofy together. I actually love this glimpse at their dynamic.

Then Tessa seems to feel unwell or upset.

And J looks at her with concern. I don't think I have ever seen J appear worried about anyone.

Tessa even tries to reassure her.

I feel like, apart from N, Tessa's best friend was J. All this just hits harder after the most recent episode.

Spoiler-related stuff under the cut

This probably won't happen, but I would love for J to be the wild card in the upcoming episode. Right now, I think she believes that she's following the real Tessa. If she were to find out the Solver not only killed her best friend...

...and probably weaponized J herself to do it, as we see here...but has been impersonating Tessa all this time and wearing her as a costume???

Imagine J going on a full rampage against the Solver. Showing that at one point in her life, she cared for someone, enough to follow them to the edge of the universe, enough to avenge them.

I just find all these characters so interesting, and I'd love for their personalities to be explored.

I have 3 things to talk about…

1. How nice it was to see Tim talk to the guys about his fight with Lucy. I’m literally shocked that he was so open with them! I love that he’s growing, opening up and confiding people that aren’t just Lucy and Angela (And Genny to an extent) he was so many friends now!

2. I am unable to move past how married™️ and sweet and domestic it is that Lucy calls tim to get the bugs at home 🥹 and how she suspected that he was just killing them but didn’t say anything and Tim was like pretending to set them outside even tho he wasn’t because he appreciates how empathic she is to even bugs 😭 I just can’t get over the idea that badass Lucy Chen is scared of bugs, well maybe not scared but whatevs, and makes her grumpy boyfriend take care of them but still insists he doesn’t just kill the scary bugs — do we think post Jackson death, pre-Chris she would call Tim over to handle the super big ones? Omg can you imagine? I’m dead

3. Can we talk about how the dance was like the biggest indicator we’ve ever had that these two are so FREAKIN TACTILE WITH EACH OTHER! Like it was kinda obvious before that their shared love language is touch, but I feel like you really, very clearly see that in the dance. And I just 😭 they love each other so much and just want to touch and snuggle and be with the other so much.

I am still very unwell. And I haven’t even processed the ILY’s fully yet so we’re not gonna go there 😂😂😂

. The 'bug scene' Listen, after the dance, this might be my favorite part of the episode. This scene was the cutest thing ever… and yes, it was peak married energy. Let's be real here : what is the point of having a boyfriend if it's not to have him take out the trash and deal with the bugs? (just kidding!). Seriously though… Lucy once said that she used to treat the coackroaches in her first apartment as pets (3.11 I think), so it's not like she is fundamentally scared of bugs. Neither is Tamara for that matter. She just wanted Tim to take care of them, in a very Lucy way. But the fact that she knew he was killing them all along but pretended not to know is perfect. Again, that is so her. And then, add the other layer to that scene. Out of all the questions she could have asked, she chose this one. I feel like it was her way of diffusing the tension, of making Tim more comfortable by asking such an innocent question, with no stake at all, before bringing up the real issue between them.

. Tim at the bachelor's party scene You have no idea how much I wish that part had been a little bit longer, so we could see more of the reactions. Still, I love how this scene was cut, with the back and forth between the two parties. How both of them needing to confide their frustrations to other people. And you're right, this is huge for Tim. At best, he would open up to Lucy (obv not an option here) or Angela. Maybe Genny. But certainly not someone like Randy who he barely knows and who can't keep a secret. Or even Aaron… His former aide. That's how much this relationship is important to him. It may have started as a way for him to vent but he also wanted to hear some advices. And he did listen to Randy's suggestion - of all people.

. The dance On the one hand, did anyone still have any doubt that these two are so tactile with one another? The undercover mission was all the confirmation we needed, really. But on the other hand… I didn't think it was possible for them to be even more tactile. It's somehow more intense, more intimate… It just shows how much they craved reassurance. They needed that touch to ground themselves. Lucy needed to play with his lapel and he needed to pull her in closer to him. And don't get me started on how she was playing with his hair or caressing his face. IN PUBLIC. There was no room for Jesus in that dance. She was looking at him the same way she did before 'naked times'… And where did they sneak off after that dance? 👀

incredible chaser game w moments (part 2) up to & incl. episode 4

the most homophobic breakup you've ever seen. just, unholy behavior. on fucking god itsuki i know you had good intentions but you're the worst for doing it like that !!!!!!!!! at least let her down easy !!!!! if i was 22 and my gf of 4 years did that to me i'd fucking go insane as well

the elevator stopped working ➡️ you are trapped in with the person you hate ➡️ you are forced to sit it out and face your fears together, ultimately bringing you closer both emotionally & physically. i love this trope and i didn't know i needed it here, but it was great. step 1 to the meowmeow-ification of fuyu complete

my prediction of itsuki running into & taking care of little tsuki and the two of them then being found by fuyu, resulting in an awkward and heartbreaking scene, came true exactly like that. i think this scene was genuinely so well done and well acted, it broke my heart. i think this was the scene that really got me to say Damn, I'm invested in this now...

^ I'm still waiting for Itsuki to bring up the similar names in conversation though. like you need to talk about that

every time fuyu has kissed itsuki of her own initiative, it has been when she was drunk... can we remedy that for future episodes, please? not that consent has been an issue, their mutual feelings are obvious, but i think she should be making a move when she doesn't have any liquid courage in her. step up your fucking game, fuyu

"she's a classic tsundere, after all" - fuyu, who has been severly harassing her subordinates at work (again, there seems to be no HR department at this company) being written off as a "tsundere" by the rest of the team - I mean, you're not wrong, but you should still file a complaint against her.

fuyu's husband Kouu is the nicest man on earth. my man doesn't deserve ANY of this. he even calls her dongyu. he even calls his wife by her real fucking name like the bar is so low

fuyu treats him so badly too, man, i genuinely felt bad watching it. were the 5 years of marriage all like this? was he always just a means to you getting your revenge? i'm sick. i hope they can make up by the end of the show and have a real conversation about their feelings and relationship.

that aside, i do have some theories on kouu, his disappearance, and his own feelings as well, but i'm keeping that to myself atm...

fuyu & itsuki keep having insanely homoerotic moments in front of god and everyone on earth, I'm starting to believe the only person with a gaydar in this company is the photographer from the other office. the fact that you two haven't been found out yet is honestly a massive plot hole (lmao)

has itsuki eaten anything else but sweets (cake, in particular?) on screen yet? apart from the homemade meal at the hayashi's, whenever there's a scene of her alone or with her grandma, she's always eating cake. i wonder if it will come up at some point, but it's just something i noticed. no shade though girl i'm also (almost) 27 and if you wanna eat cake for dinner alone at home I'm your nr1 supporter

i'm never a fan of the trope of a bilingual character breaking out into their native tongue for swearing or just randomly, but it is fun that only fuyu does it and that all the other chinese characters just don't speak mandarin at all. and i'm happy they actually cast a bilingual actress for fuyu!

episode 4 was the mid-series finale, and it definitely showed. this was the best episode so far by a pretty significant margin imo.

the. silent pleading fuyu puts on to make itsuki stay at the hayashi house. the most fucking 🥺*twirling my hair cutely* AND IT WORKS TOO BECAUSE ITSUKI IS JUST AS INSANE AS YOU ARE

i would like to talk about the best scene of this show yet. i really wished it was longer and was given even more weight. in episode 4, fuyu & itsuki are sitting in the living room together at night, so far apart that they're completely out of each other's camera shots even. i found this to be the most interesting scene so far. there was genuine tension in the shot composition, the acting, the complete absence of music. just silence and their voices. "after all, it was all my fault, wasn't it? that we ended up like this?" fuyu still deep down believes that she was the reason their relationship failed. she wasn't enough, because she's fuyu, because she's a woman. she still thinks that. my heart fucking broke in two

their fight after fuyu came back home drunk was so funny. especially with their height difference... hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby

after finally learning the truth about their break-up, fuyu is absolutely devastated. "you valued your promise to my mother more than the one you made to me?" just completely broken. after all this time sitting with these unresolved emotions, feelings of guilt and deep shame, only for that to be the reason? I feel so bad for her

the mutual love confession!!!!! i'm honestly a bit surprised it came so early, i thought they were just going to sleep together and not talk emotions first. but i'm not gonna complain (i just love mess) i'm also devastated that itsuki used suki while fuyu used the word aishiteru. my friends it's so bad for me right now (and them)

i hope so because 1) hot and 2) although i'm still unsure as to the exact room situation of the hayashi household, don't they all have one shared bedroom??? isn't the bedroom that they're in after they've had sex (hopefully in the living room) the same one we've previously seen, where the kid also sleeps????? their lil afterglow convo in bed was just perfectly sweet. 1 point to fuyu, now presumably much more sobered up, for having the courage to ask if itsuki's gonna stay the night after all. girl you don't have to ask. i think she's ready for another 12 rounds. she's not going anywhere.

the line delivery of the "alright" (i'm gonna stay) oh my god. oh my god... oh. oh.

in the preview for ep5, fuyu is wearing a mixture of white and black clothes. girl... it was that good, huh?????

i had a lot of thoughts on this one and i've found great joy in going deep into the twt tags for it as well. and i'm glad to see many japanese sapphics also being super vocal about the show. it's really interesting to read and interact with that side of the fandom i haven't really seen in this capacity for a (lesbian) live action show yet. i see people slowing down & brightening up footage to analyse who's taking each other's clothes off first, people just posting close-ups of Yuuka's hands, people going into Yurika's past filmography to dig up ancient clips of other sapphic roles she's played (of which there seem to be actually quite a lot?). i love to see it lmao. on a more serious note, it makes me happy to see sapphics from so far away expressing themselves similarily to myself or my other lesbian friends. it's cute!! as for cgw, part b of the series is gonna be intense, and i'm especially curious to see how they're gonna do the inevitable breakdown of fuyu again. my girl is so deep in the trenches, her temporary being on cloud 9 right now is gonna be short-lived and i want to see it happen. i hope she can really stand up for herself and make things right after all!

OKAY PERCY JACKSON EPISODE 6 THOUGHTS (long post)

i was definitely a bit weary of the big changes: the fact that the summer solstice deadline passed and that percy gets 4 pearls. but after thinking about it for a while i think im actually okay with it!! first of all, its making the show interesting for book readers bc they caught me off guard and now we don’t 100% know how it’s going to play out lol

but also, i like that the deadline passing raises the stakes a bit more. the fact that percy still wants to go get the bolt from the underworld, just shows how committed he’s become to the actual goal of the quest and starting to embrace his demigod side. and it’s going to make his trip to olympus at the end so much riskier & dangerous considering a whole war is literally about to start. so im okay with this

and then the 4 pearls: i still don’t think they’re going to be able to take sally with them out of the underworld. something is definitely going to happen to 1 of the pearls, it’s going to get lost in the chaos of them making it to hades’ palace or SOMETHING because a big part of the prophecy is “fail to save what matters most in the end”. they have to leave sally behind and i think it’s going to be so much more heartbreaking that percy HAD 4 pearls and HAD the chance to save his mom but they lost 1 along the way so then they’ll have to make the tough decision and TRULY fail to save what matters most… bc in the book it’s not even really an option since he only gets 3 pearls

obviously i could be wrong about that lol but i don’t think there’s any way they don’t leave sally behind because she’s not there on the beach when they’re about to fight ares, which is where they are directly after the underworld (unless they’ve switched the order around but idk how that would work)

other than that I LOVED EVERYTHING with the trio, the bestieism continues and i love it. you can really see the shift in percy and annabeth’s dynamic after the last episode it’s so cute. the little grover and percy moments were so sweet too, their convos felt RIGHT out of the books to me. also MORE SEAWEED BRAIN AND WISE GIRL!!!

LOVE the dream sequence bc it felt so book accurate, we do get a lot of percy witnessing other people’s convos through his dreams and this is the first time we’ve seen it in the show, it was great

luke immediately jumping at the chance to blame clarisse for stealing the bolt in the iris message lol im laughing

more luke/annabeth sibling set up AND hermes and may and luke backstory set up??? i was NOT expecting that so early on but im deeply obsessed

the whole hermes situation was also great… i can’t believe it but i liked LMM’s performance?? i think he sold it really well. again im so excited to be getting these convos about hermes and luke so early on because it is such a key part to the end of the series.

the conversation with percy and the nereid and the way percy reacts to thinking the quest failed??? the way he refuses to give up?? the nereid saying they all see so much of poseidon in him??? i’m unwell

crying at annabeth pick pocketing hermes, the literal god of thieves, that’s my girl fr

the entire cab driving sequence was just so funny. peak comedy, and brought some lightheartedness to the episode that i think was very needed. the new yorker in percy really came out in that scene lmao

there was just SO MANY hilarious moments of dialogue and jokes between the trio i feel like this episode captured the essence of their dynamic from the books so well

overall LOVED it, wish it was longer, and i’m curious to see how they finish it off in the next 2 episodes. i’m trying my best to hold back the criticism for any changes until we’ve seen the whole season, because i think most complaints people have from this ep will probably just be fixed or addressed in the next 2 lol

OMFG I AM UNWEELLLLL

So first: I wanna thank Danai and the universe for this masterpiece. I also wanna thank the universe for my current existence and the opportunity to watch what I have just seen with my fucking eyes.

I don't know where to start. It was all I had ever expected of this show. It was almost like a richonne fanfiction, because it dived into so many side topics (I bet Danai got some inspiration, you can not tell me she did not know about our illusions). It was drama, pure love, even heartbreak and comedy all in one episode. It was the first time I was glad an ep. was over 'cause otherwise I would've hyperventilated. I usually don't like all of this romantic 'oh I love you' 'but noo uhhh' but this show and this couple especially makes me feel unwell. My personal favs of the ep. (Basically all of it)

The already mentioned fanfic vibe, the michonne getting undressed and Rick just watching and admiring (can't blame him, I do too), the mention of RJ, the conflict and trauma Rick feels, michonnes frustration with him, the scene (if you know what I mean) +rick needing to pause for a moment, the reference to their last scene together in bed, the fucking robot which Rick obviously does not know about since the apocalypse started in 2010s. The mention of Carl (still not over it), seeing Rick in a sweater and Michonne in that top is just fierce and of course the elevator and car scene are you fucking kidding me. And so much more...

You don't understand how stunned I am. I could start a 2 hours long monologue just about this one episode... I can't function tomorrow

NBC Hannibal: Dogs and Dinners

There is a tv trope "adopt the dog", which helps us like a character and see their good side. Will's character exposition is clear: he saves a dog and cares for a big family of strays. The dogs manifest his good sides, humanity. However, we are also hinted at Will's repressed dark instincts, because domestic dogs are still animals that hunt and kill. They are pack hunters too, and Will's fighting pose in the finale is "on fours", "a wild dog". The domestic and the wild co-exist.

It would be unfair not to demonstrate a humane side of Hannibal during his introduction. We see him working as a psychiatrist. His job almost mirrors Will's job: Will is an empath who analyses psychopaths to put them in jail, and Hannibal is a psychopath who analyses normal people to help them fix their lives. But not all of his patients are actually recovering, and his approach is unorthodox. I don't think his job is a true reflection of his humane side. As in the case with Will, we should look into his house and see the his own character exposition, just as intimate, instinctual and double-sided.

It's his cooking. At first sight it's merely a depiction of his darkness. But if we break down the idea of cooking to the basic instincts (like with Will's dogs), we will feel Hannibal's humanity. For him, cooking is not only eating. It's feeding. And Hannibal likes to feed. Feeding is a paternal instinct, a social, protective behavior. And we have seen many times in the show that Hannibal has paternal instincts, likes socialising and can be protective not only on his behalf. Hannibal uses feeding for manipulation as well, yes, but even in those cases feeding people is his idea of creating connection and affection.

Here are a few examples. After Jack asks Hannibal in the first episode to be gentle with Will, Hannibal, the stag that he is, does the opposite: invades Will's hotel room uninvited and puts him on his antlers with compliments and home-made breakfast that fits Will's simple tastes. When Hannibal tries make Abigail attached to him, he cooks her "breakfast for dinner" and mushroom tea. He makes coffee for Will, when he's in hospital, makes soups to Will, when he's unwell. He likes when someone helps him in the kitchen.

Hannibal doesn't invite people for dinner only when encessary. He does it at every opportinity. He has many "friends" in cultural circles that he loves to entertain. And he feeds them human meat, which is rare and risky to get. There's cynicism in that behaviour but also a need to share and connect at a high cost. Hannibal is generous and hospitable.

Hannibal "likes to eat in a company" and yet it's never simply that. Extended cooking scenes, exquisite dishes and lavish dinners - too lavish even for a small gathering… He’s obsessed with cooking. It's a manifestation of his darkness... and aching humanity. Eating and feeding co-exist.

There may be some evidence to this in canon. In the book/movie “Hannibal rising” (both written/scripted by the original author of "Hannibal") little Lecter starved with Mischa during the war. Mischa was his first beloved human, and he became her parental figure after premature death of their parents. A special emphasis is made in the movie on Hannibal feeding her. His experience of hunger was not only about misery but also love and caring for another person and putting their needs above your own.

Will: Have you ever been a father?

Hannibal: I was to my sister. She was not my child, but she was my charge. She taught me so much about myself. Her name was Mischa.

Before the finale Bedelia says her famous line:

"Could he daily feel a stab of hunger for you and find nourishment at the very sight of you? Yes."

This line is a big box to unpack, but a big idea is that Hannibal is harmless now. He no longer needs to eat Will - or indulge into cannibalism with him - to connect. His love overpowers trauma and killer instincts. In the finale he does exactly what Bedelia predicted: he finds nourishment at the very sight of Will in his house, only sharing wine like in the good old days, and Will feels safe and protected in his presence. And this is a really nice touch to Hannibal's character development.

Feel free to ignore this , but inspired by the rivalry between Rebecca and Rupert. What if ,alongside soccer they also "compete" in tennis ? Rupert has "his" player and reader is secretly dating Rebecca and plays against Rupert's player and wins ? But it's a hard match and even Rebecca is worried it's over 2 hours . Just a thought 🤔 big money is at stake,sponsorship and reputation ?

Con't: It's been over 3 hours , Rebecca is worried for reader , Ted knows reader has an injury . Maybe the soccer clubs are one of the sponsors and some celebrities/players show up . Reader has been hiding an injury or she was feeling unwell in front of Rebecca , not disappoint her because a lot is at stake, plus she can win over Rupert and his cheating ways. At first reader is unwell but gets right back up and is making impossible shots. That gif in the stands(from the previous request ) just inspired the idea, plus the bar scene with Ted and darts. Again, if it's not your cup of tea please feel free to ignore . I really enjoy all your work so can't wait for the next one 💞

Walking towards Rebecca's office, notebook in hand, you're both excited and curious to see why she had asked you to some see her.

As you walk into the office you see Higgins standing in front of Rebecca's desk, Rebecca sitting behind it in her chair.

"You wanted to see me boss?" You ask as you walk in.

"Ah, y/n, yes, thank you for coming." She says with a smile and turns back towards Higgins. "That should be fine, thank you Leslie."

"Hi Higgins!" You say as you cross paths with him.

"Good afternoon y/n!" He says in his usual happy attitude as he heads towards the door.

"Leslie, please close the door behind you." Rebecca calls to him.

"Of course Rebecca." He walks through the door and pulls it closed behind him.

Rebecca watches the door like a hawk, the second she hears it click shut she stands up and walks around to the front of her desk, her eyes focused on you.

"Finally." She says as she wraps one arm around your waist and slides her other hand to the back of your head and pulls you in for a kiss.

Her lips eagerly meet yours and you smile into the kiss, wrapping your arms around her, pulling her into you. She passionately kisses you for a minute and you feel like you're in heaven. Your lips part and you both pull back a little from each other.

"I've been waiting all day for that." She says as her eyes are still glued to your lips.

You press your lips against hers and kiss her again, your tongues meet and dance around each other until your lips part once more.

"So did you actually need something?" You joke.

"Of course," she says "I needed that."

She holds you tight as you laugh and you bury your face into her neck. You place a kiss on her soft skin and pull back, staring into her gorgeous green eyes.

"Actually, I wanted to know if you wanted to come with me to meet these sisters that own like, 2 percent of the club for lunch. They're insufferable and I don't want to go alone."

"Rebecca Welton are you asking me out on a date?" You playfully reply.

"It would be a sad excuse for a date, but I suppose I am."

"I would love to." You say, kissing her once more.

Walking into Mae's you're met with the familiar faces of the regular patrons. Waving to some of the locals you know, you're distracted when Rupert and Bex walk up to you and Rebecca.

"Rupert, what are you doing here?" Rebecca asks.

"Ah, Rebecca, lovely to see you as always, and who is this lovely young lady?" He says, extending his hand towards you.

"My name is y/n." You say, returning the handshake.

"Lovely to meet you y/n, Rebecca, y/n, this is Rebecca," he gestures to Bex, "Rebecca, this is Rebecca and y/n."

You all exchange pleasantries and Rupert says "Rebecca, y/n, please, celebrate with us."

"Sorry, but we're actually here to meet the Milk sisters." Rebecca responds.

"Oh, they won't be coming." He says matter-of-factly.

Rebecca looks at him and he explains that Bex bought their shares of the club, after he, of course, helped fund the purchase. Rupert also says that once him and Bex are married what's hers will be his and what's his will stay his and takes a jab at Rebecca. Making remark to the effect of how he learned his lesson after they got divorced.

Rupert announces to the bar that drinks are on him and the patrons swarm the bar. Rupert makes a comment about how he's going to be joining Rebecca in the owners box every week for the rest of the season and practically threatens to harass her every time someone shoves a camera in his face and asks him how he thinks she's doing.

Rebecca shrinks as she stands next to you. Anger fills your chest, it's infuriating how small he's able to make her feel every single time he opens his stupid mouth.

Mae brings over some drinks and looks at you.

"You're the one who's helping to organize the tennis charity event right?"

"Yup, that's me."

"Well, I'd love to help sponsor it."

"Aw, thank you Mae, I'll shoot you an email later today with more info for the sponsors."

"Oh Mae you're just the sweetest." Rupert says and you can't help but roll your eyes at him. "Y/n, are you an avid Tennis player?" He asks.

"Well, I was, I played from the time I was a kid all throughout university. But I got injured and stopped after I graduated."

"What a pity. I was actually thinking of having a friend of mine participate and I would sponsor her, you know, for the charity."

"Oh, were you really?" You ask, unamused.

"I was."

A thought pops into your head, one that may get Rupert to stay out of the owners box and leave Rebecca alone.

"That sounds like a great idea Rupert. Actually, I have an idea, why don't you and I make it a little more interesting?"

"What are you proposing?"

"What if I go up against your, friend. If you win, I will let you pick which advertisements we run for the last three games. But if I win, you stay the hell away from the owners box."

Rebecca looks at you with a fear in her eyes.

"Y/n," she whispers to you. "What the hell are you doing?"

"Don't worry." You turn back to Rupert. "So what do you say?"

"It's a deal. Let the best man, or woman, win."

The bet is sealed with a firm handshake and you and Rebecca head back to the office.

"Y/n, what hell?!" Rebecca says when you get back into her office.

"What? I'm not just gonna sit there and do nothing and let him harass you every week for the rest of the season, and for every season after that!"

"You didn't have to do that."

"I know baby, but I wanted to." Holding her face in your hands, you try and comfort her. "I'll always have your back, and if I have to kick a couple of asses along the way, so be it."

She looks into your eyes for a moment and kisses you. After your lips part you hold her in your arms.

"Please be careful." She says quietly.

"I will love, I promise."

Training for the match begins the very next day, you wrap up your ankle to give it more support since it's much weaker after you hurt it so many years ago and get to work. You can't remember the last time you played so much tennis, forgetting how much you loved it. It wasn't until training started when you realized how much you missed playing.

Rebecca invites you over her house for dinner one night and she opens the door with a bigger smile on her face than usual.

"Hi baby, what are you so happy about?" You ask, kissing her hello.

"I have a surprise for you."

She takes you by the hand and leads you into the kitchen, a big gift basket is sitting on the island.

"What is this?" You ask as you start to open it.

"I wanted to make sure you have the best possible advantage for the match, I saw the old racket and equipment you were using and I knew you needed something a little better if you really wanted to beat him."

Inside the basket is a brand new tennis racket, tennis shoes, tennis balls, a new water bottle, a visor, sunglasses, a few other small things and a couple of new shirts and skirts you can wear.

"Oh baby, you didn't have to do this!"

"I know, but I wanted to."

You kiss her and hold her in your arms. A familiar feeling of comfort and safety washes over you. All you want is to make sure she feels safe too, especially from Rupert.

The morning of the match arrives, since it doesn't start until the afternoon, you grab your stuff and head out early.

Arriving at the arena, you want to get warmed up and get some last minute practice in. Ted walks up as you're practicing against a wall in the gym.

"Heyo y/n," You turn around and see Ted with a few Richmond players.

"Hey Ted, boys!"

"We figured you could use a real person to practice with, Jan Maas here said he played a bit of tennis himself and offered to warm up with you before the big game."

"Oh awesome, thanks man, I really appreciate it!"

You head to an empty court and begin playing with Jan Maas. He's surprisingly good and you feel yourself really getting warmed up and ready to go. You serve the ball a few games in and hit it over the net, Jan Maas returns the ball and as you swing towards it you feel your ankle roll. The ball gets launched over the net but you fall to the ground, searing pain coming from your ankle.

"Fuck!!" You say, grabbing your ankle.

"Oh shoot, y/n, are you okay?"

"Ah shit, my ankle, I hurt it a long time ago." You say trying to get up but can't. The other players help you and lead you to a bench.

"Can you put weight on it?" Ted asks.

You try to put weight on it while you're sitting down and the pain only gets worse.

"God damnit." You have to play, you have to beat Rupert. You have to do this for her.

"Lets bring her in to see one of the medics, maybe there's something they can do."

They lead you to the medics and they wrap your ankle, ice it and give you pain meds.

"Alright, I guess I should call Rebecca and let her kno-"

"NO." You say, interrupting Ted, who looks at you surprised and confused. "No, please, don't tell her, she's got enough to worry about. I'll be fine." You turn to the medic. "Just keep me medicated as much as you can and I'll just keep icing it, hell give me a bucket of ice water and I'll stick my foot in there. I'll be fine, I have to play." No one but you, Rebecca, Rupert, Bex and you assume Rupert's player knows about the bet, you would like to keep it that way.

"Well alright, if you insist." Ted says. "You heard the lady, lets get her what she needs."

The medics treat you for the injury. Finally able to put weight on it, they send you on your way. You jump a little bit to test it out and it hurts a little, but you've played in worse conditions before. Donning your Richmond shirt and matching skirt, the medic re-wraps your ankle once more, you put on the shoes Rebecca gave you, grab your racket and head out.

You haven't seen Rebecca, truthfully you've been avoiding her because you want to try and hide your injury as much as possible; but you see her in the hall near the doors that exit out to the court, waiting for you.

"Hey, I haven't seen you all day, where have you been?" She asks.

You look around to see if anyone is nearby, when the coast is clear you kiss her.

"I've been getting ready, warming up, the usual."

"You sure you're okay?" She asks.

"Of course baby, why?"

"You seem, off."

"Its just nerves, I haven't played a real game in a long time, especially in front of this many people, but I'm okay. I promise." You flash her a reassuring smile.

"Okay." She says, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear and smiles. She leans down and kisses you, you hold her face, kissing her back. When your lips part she looks you in the eyes. "Thank you for doing this." She says quietly. "Good luck baby."

"Of course baby, thank you." You kiss her once more.

"Knock 'em dead honey!"

"I will my love."

She walks through the doors and you take a deep breath in and exhale. You hear footsteps behind and turn to see Ted, you look like a deer in headlights.

Trying your best to keep your cheeks from turning bright red, you try and act normal. "Hey Ted."

"Hey y/n, I just wanted to wish you good luck, you're gonna crush it."

"Thanks." You look away and back at him. "How much of that did you-" Gesturing to the direction Rebecca walked in.

"Enough." He laughs. "I didn't want to interrupt."

"Oh shit." You say with a nervous laugh and cover your face with your hands.

"Hey listen, I love it. You two are great together, I'm happy for you both." He says with sincerity in his voice.

"Thank you, Ted."

"Now I get why you didn't want her to know about your ankle there."

"Yeah, she's got enough to worry about, I didn't need to add to her stress."

"Yeah she told me about the bet with Rupert, which also makes more sense now too."

"Yeah, I couldn't just stand there and let that happen, I had to do something."

The announcer comes over the speaker, announcing the game will begin soon.

"Good luck, you're gonna kill it." He says with a smile.

"Thank you, Ted."

Walking out the doors, you hear the announcer call your name and you wave to the crowd. Spotting Rebecca in the stands, you give her a little nod, she's a little far away, but you can tell even from this distance that she's nervous.

The announcer announces your opponent, Bernarda Pera. You turn and watch as she walks out.

"Oh shit." You think to yourself. Of course Rupert got a professional player from the US to go up against you, she was ranked 32 in the world. You look over towards Rebecca and see the worry on her face. She looks at you and you give her a reassuring smile, trying to mask your own worry, not wanting her to see it. Even if you weren't injured you would still be worried about going up against Pera, but with your ankle in the shape it's in right now, you pray you make it through the first match.

Making your way to the net, you shake her hand before the game begins. Rupert is in the stands behind Pera with a smug look on his face.

The ref does the coin toss and you win, you're handed the tennis ball and walk to the center line. The whistle blows and you bounce the ball a few times, you get into your stance, take a deep breath in, toss the ball in the air and whack it on your exhale. It soars over the net and into the other side of the court, Pera runs up to it and hits it back over the net and the game begins.

You both go back and fourth a few times, the pain meds you were given earlier are really doing their job because you don't even feel the pain. Pera hits the ball and you send it back to the opposite back corner of where she was, she almost sent it back but missed the ball by a hair. You breath a sigh of relief when you see the score change to 15 - 0. The game continues, you both score on each other a few times and you launch the ball over the net once more, winning you the game.

Looking into the stands you see Rebecca, who's cheering and screaming.

The next few games go well and you end up winning the set 6-4. 1/3 of the way done, your ankle is feeling fine, but you decide to ice it anyway and pop another pill before the next set starts, just to be safe. Your phone buzzes and you check it and see a text from Rebecca.

Are you hurt??

As much as you hate lying to her, you can't tell her what happened, not now. Besides, you're not hurt, at least you're not in any pain at the moment.

I'm okay, just preventative

She reacts to your text with a thumbs up and you put your phone down, chug more water and head back out.

The next set starts and Pera wins the coin toss. You win the first three games and by the time the fourth comes, you feel your ankle starting to bother you and begin to feel yourself slowing down. Pera wins the next 3, you win one more and Pera crushes you the last 3, losing the second set 4-6.

After the set you sit down and ice your ankle more. The medic re-wraps your ankle and you try to keep it elevated until you have to get back out onto the court. Your phone buzzes again and you see another text from Rebecca.

Preventative my ass

You laugh out loud at her text and turn to look at her, she gives a look while poorly trying to hide her smile.

I'll be okay, I promise.

Fuck Rupert, I'm not letting him win his.

She reacts to your second text with a heart and responds.

Please be careful.

I will baby, promise.

You put your phone down and ice your ankle for another minute and head back out onto the court. Pera wins the coin toss again and the game begins. You're both on your A game now because whoever wins this set, wins the whole thing. The match gets more intense as the two of you alternate game wins. On the final game of the set, the score is 5-6, Pera in the lead. You can not let her win, you can not let Rupert win. You won't.

You both play really well, the score coming to 30-40, next point Pera gets, she wins the whole thing.

She launches the ball and you sprint towards it, making it in time by a fraction of a second, managing to hit the ball before it hits the ground a second time. As the ball bounces off of your racket, you feel your ankle roll and you tumble onto the ground. The crowd gasps, and you watch the ball in slow motion, your heart sinking when the ball lands right outside of the line.

"Fuck!" You say as you sit up, a lump developing in your throat, and its not from the pain. The disappointment of not being able to protect Rebecca is breaking your heart. One ref walks up to another, pointing to the line. The medics run up to you and help you up and over to the sidelines. You're given a 3 minute medical time out to see if you're able to keep going. As the medics check your ankle you keep your eyes on the refs as more join in on the conversation.

The announcer comes over the speakers and announces that the refs are going to watch the playback to determine if the ball was out of bounds.

"Oh my god are you okay?!" You hear from behind.

Turning around, you see Rebecca running towards you, she kneels down and puts her hand on your arm.

"What are you doing down here?! You're not supposed to be here!" You ask, genuinely surprised to see her.

"We're the organizers of this event, I can go wherever the hell I want. Are you okay?" She says, looking into your eyes with genuine concern.

The medic moves your ankle and you yelp.

"Yeah," you say in pain. "I'm good."

"No you're not! I can't believe this happened, this is all my fault."

"Hey," you lift her face towards you. "No it is not. This whole wager was my idea, and nothing you could have said or done was going to stop me." You look deep into her eyes for a moment, before you go to speak again you hear the announcer come over the system.

"The referees have finished watching the playback and have made their decision."

You both look towards the ref, Rebecca's hand tightening around your arm. The ref says that the ball was indeed in bounds, just barely touching the edge of the line. You and Rebecca jump and scream with excitement, she wraps her arms around you and squeezes you. You're still in the game, thank god.

A ref walks up to you and Rebecca.

"Are you okay to continue?" He asks you.

The medic finishes wrapping your ankle and you put your shoe back on and stand up. It hurts to put pressure on it at first, but the pain dulls to a manageable level you take a few steps, and nod your head at him.

"Honey, are you sure?" Rebecca says as she grabs your arm.

You turn towards her, looking into her worried eyes.

"I don't want you going out there if you're hurt."

"I'm not quitting, not now. I can do this."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

Rebecca wraps her arms around you and hugs you tight and you hug her back.

"Please be careful." She whispers as she hugs you.

"I will baby."

You two part and Rebecca backs up and sits on one of the benches on the sidelines and you walk back out onto the court.

"And she's decided to keep going." The announcer says.

The crowd cheers and you give a wave, you look over at Rebecca and she nods. You nod back and get right into the zone, ready to win it all, for her.

You serve the ball and Pera hits it back, you two go back and fourth a few times. She softly hits it so it just goes over the net, you sprint to the net and are just able to hit it back over. She goes to launch it way behind you and you jump, the ball just barely making contact with your racket before it goes too far back for you to reach it. The ball gets spiked behind her and you get the point. The impact definitely hurts when you hit the ground after you jump but you try and shake it off.

You head to the center line and get ready to serve again. Looking up, you see Rupert walk onto the sidelines, glaring at you. You serve the ball and hit the net, a disappointed cry from the crowd fills the arena.

Before you go to serve again you look over to Rebecca, she nods at you and winks.

"This is for her." You say to yourself.

You bounce the ball a few times and inhale, you toss the ball up and launch it across the net to the other side with your racket as you exhale. Pera is playing with all she has, she's turned her energy up as high as it goes, but so have you. Going back and fourth, both of you making close saves, smashing the ball across the court, your ankle feeling worse and worse each minute you're on the court. You hit the ball across the court, Pera makes it and hits it towards the opposite corner of you.

Your legs move faster than your mind can. As you sprint towards the ball, sharp pains shoot up your leg with each step you take but you don't stop. You backhand the ball across the net towards the other corner of the court. The ball bounces onto the court as Pera sprints to the ball and swings, her racket just missing the ball by a hair.

The crowd goes wild as the ball bounces out of bounds behind Pera and you stand there in shock and turn towards Rebecca, who has jumped out of her seat screaming. Looking up you see the scoreboard change: 8-6.

You walk up to the net and shake your opponents hand. Behind her you see Rupert, seething. He glares at you again and angerly walks away.

"You did an amazing job, you're not too bad." Pera says.

"Thanks, you're one hell of an opponent."

You walk back over to Rebecca and she runs up and wraps you in her arms in excitement.

"Oh my god!! You did it!"

"I did it for you baby." You whisper into her ear.

She pulls back and looks you in the eyes, her eyes glossy. Before you know it, her lips are on yours, you kiss her back and cup her cheek with you hand.

The rest of the Richmond team in the stands go absolutely wild when they see you two kiss.

"OH MY GOD NO FUCKING WAY!!" Keeley screams.

Higgins holds his hand over his heart as he tears up, Roy, without realizing it, smiles, and it quickly fades and he growls when another team member sees him. Beard wipes away a tear and the other boys on the teams yell and cheer. Ted stands there with a smile on his face.

A few weeks later you walk into Mae's on crutches along side Rebecca with your foot in a boot. Ted, Beard, Keeley, Roy, Higgins and his wife are all already sat down at a table with drinks.

They all cheer when they see you two walk in.

"Hey guys!"

"Hey! How are ya feelin?" Ted asks.

You sit down in a chair and rest your crutches against the wall.

"Not too bad, the surgery went really well and I started physical therapy yesterday!"

"How long do you have to wear that for?" Higgins asks, gesturing to your boot.

"Six weeks, which definitely sucks. But I have the best nurse in the world taking care of me, so it could totally be worse." You say as you grab Rebecca's hand and smile at her.

"Taking care of you is the very least I can do." She says as she leans towards you.

"I love you." You say.

"I love you too."

Closing the gap between the two of you, your lips meet and you kiss her. A chorus of "aww's" erupt from the group. You two smile as you part, getting lost in her beautiful green eyes for a moment.

"Alright, who needs drinks?!" Mae says, walking over with two more beers.

"Yes please!" You say as she hands you one.

"Thank you Mae." Rebecca says, taking her drink.

The group cheers and you all take a sip of your beers. Rebecca's hand finds yours resting in your lap and holds onto it, giving it a little squeeze. You squeeze her back and rest your head on her shoulder. You look around at the group of people you're with and try and commit the scene in front of you to your memory. All of your favorite people in the world gathered around one table, drinking beer, laughing, having fun and making memories that will last a lifetime. You look up at Rebecca and study her face, watching how her eyes light up when she laughs, how beautiful her smile is, you try and commit the way she looks right now into your memory as well. It's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen in your life.

She looks down at you and kisses your forehead, you close your eyes for a second and revel in the moment.

"Oi, watch this!" Jamie says as he grabs your crutches and starts to play with them in the middle of the bar.

Everyone laughs and Mae reprimands him, making everyone laugh more.

You won the game, you were able to keep Rupert away from the owners box and even though you practically ruined your ankle in the process, it was well worth it.

#tristampparty day 1, episode 1: noman's land

normally i draw stuff for fandom events... but i don't really feel like it so instead i'm going to rewatch tristamp for @tristampparty :D it's been a few months since my last rewatch, so i'm excited~ (this will be my fourth time watching it...) subs this time, since i've watched the dub the last 2 times i watched. AND also my first time watching it start to finish after completing the manga. i've been wanting to do this for a while so now's as good a time as any!

i don't know how much i'll have in the way of coherent thoughts or analysis so i guess i'll just... do it like i did my bookclub posts? and write my random thoughts/observations as i go :'3 if i'm lucky it will turn into coherency and analysis LOL

okay episode 1 let's gooooo

i don't think this was shown in the manga so this caught my eye immediately - that there are robots helping maintain the people in cryosleep. the fact that there were only five other crew members besides rem, and that only one person is awake at a time barring emergencies, was brought up and questioned by multiple people in bookclub. maintenance robots make a lot of sense, one person can only do so much, even a small crew wouldn't be enough for such a huge ship.

iirc we don't see the other scientists on the ship at any point in tristamp, so i guess they were all integrated into conrad's character...? which means this rem was more alone than ever. and also had less people to fight against re: the experimentation on tesla...? or... hmmm. one minute into the episode and i'm already saying so much lol help

nai being cast in shadow... that's cinematography babes!!!! and the two blooming geraniums...

UGH!!!! this always gets me!!!! the fact that NAI is the one who invites rem onto the escape pod... knives's love for rem compounding his guilt over her death makes me want to eat rocks. i think that combination of love and guilt is definitely present in the original but it's not blatantly shown as it is here. i've said this a lot and i'll keep saying it but one of the things i really like about tristamp is how it puts a microscope over knives's emotions.

"i thought i'd spare her" he says!!! and with his face covered in shadow... this is from volume 2, so it's in part to keep him ~mysterious~ as the antagonist at this point in the story, but the shadow also serves to show us he's not being fully truthful here. obviously!! but at this point in the manga we don't know much about knives at all, and he's very much framed as sinister and menacing. tristamp does things a bit the other way around, showing us that nai cares about rem and then having him do his evil speech-laugh at vash later in the episode... but we're not up to that just yet. anyway.

we don't really get a clear look at nai's face after the pod launches but because i'm unwell i went frame by frame

he definitely looks angry here i think, or frustrated... of course he is...

so as vash cries here i can't help but think he's emoting for both himself and his brother. in stamp and in the manga both. like the lyrics of tombi.

...less than 5 minutes and i've already written so much. okay. enough about knives. let's all look at meryl's face.

it's been discussed how tristamp frontloads a lot of information, and this specifically has been pointed out already, but the reveal of the planet's name being NML doesn't happen until... the penultimate chapter of the manga. not like keeping the planet's name a secret really matters in the grand scheme of things, but in the manga the reveal was an emotional beat following the final battle, reinforcing the resilience of the people living there. here it's framed the opposite, almost - as the fact that this place SUCKS. also roberto is purposefully talking down to meryl in this scene but it still comes across as a bit clumsy in that it's obviously exposition for the sake of the audience.

i think this rewatch i want to pay more attention to roberto. i just kind of forget he exists most of the time since he's not in the manga, and not someone i ever really got attached to seeing as how he's clearly telegraphed as the Dead Mentor character, there to push meryl's character to the point where she needs to be by the end of the season. i wasn't around to see this happen but when tristamp started airing i'm pretty sure he got shit on a lot for Not Being Milly. but i do think he fulfills milly's role in one specific way; he's a very observant person. i don't know if i want to dive deep into a roberto-milly comparison though... i kinda feel like that would do a disservice to him lol. but i like the contrast of what kind of relationship each of them has with meryl.

the biggest wettest eyes you've ever seen

i just like the level of detail here with meryl and roberto being reflected in vash's glasses. very neat!

*squints* i just wanted to post BDN's wanted poster to lament the fact that he doesn't actually appear in tristamp, and perhaps laugh at nightow's poster again, but the guy on the left... that's the guy from 98 episode 1, right? and i think the guy in the middle is the guy who lina kicked in the face. there's a poster for the nebraska daughter later in the scene, too. the attention to detail is insane, man.

oh. he's referring to knives here. i think.

see, here's the thing. i only just now realized that he might be referring to knives because the subs i was watching previously (the ones uploaded to aniwave) translate this line differently. it's a lot more vague, about how things will just get worse if they don't do something. the dub line is similarly vague. this line is a lot more clear. but i don't know, man. the reason why i've mostly stuck to the dub is because i could tell the subs on aniwave were of dubious quality, but my japanese isn't good enough to tell which subs are the ""most"" correct, this included. it makes a lot of sense that he's referring to knives here, so that's the interpretation i think i'll stick with. and at least these subs are like... better grammar-wise than the ones on aniwave, lol.

Thinking About This Again. okay i don't remember where this was confirmed by staff or if it was just a theory but this was a bounty put out by knives, right? as "this is what humans think of you, as an object you can put a price on, not as a person." it's all been said already by people who aren't me. but i'm just thinking about knives's hypocrisy again. he doesn't exactly view vash as a person either.

...as i watch this i'm realizing i have a lot less to say about the second half of the episode than the first half.

i've seen people say that vash not having any bullets for the duel was on purpose. and that's probably true. i've also seen people say that running around screaming and crying was on purpose, like, it was part of his act. i... don't know about that. he does scream and cry and throw up to present himself as a harmless idiot, but contrast that with the bullet dodging and the disarming of the cluster bomb... he's kinda... showing his hand? especially because he tries to laugh it off as luck immediately after. NONE of that was part of the plan.

OKAY AM I JUST MAKING THIS UP OR ARE THOSE TEARS IN HIS EYES. THIS ISN'T JUST ME RIGHT. he could just be crying from laughing too hard UNLESS...?! also, why am i reminded of vash saying to rem "when you cry, you look like you're laughing." so the other way around would be...?! we know how much nai is hurting here, how much he didn't want to kill rem... and he's laughing... but with tears in his eyes... is this anything. am i overcooking. it's getting late and my brain isn't working at full capacity anymore.

GOD just. he's so young. in the flashbacks in volume 2, the twins look a bit older, i think, and especially since knives's face is completely blacked out in shadow, it doesn't fully register just how young he was at the time... but man. he was just a kid.

ugh, and the first thing we see of adult knives is him playing the piano, knives's piano being a cry of loneliness from his heart... as we know... i'm going to combust. and his... piano room(?) is so haunting with the dead plants all around.

here's a detail that i like in tristamp - the worms are ever-present from the beginning. for the first couple of episodes they just seem like window-dressing, simply part of the environment to give the setting more character, nothing more. we don't learn about the worm hivemind or zazie until episode 4. but it's obvious upon revisiting that this is how knives is getting information about vash's location and also where any dying plants are.

which i also want to point out because!!! in this scene knives says, in japanese: 「見つけたか」 which in the subs is translated as, "so you've found him." it's translated similarly in the dub, referring to him, as in vash. but in the subs i initially watched, the line was translated as, "did you find it? [...] i'm taking it back." if you know anything about how japanese grammar works, it's that japanese doesn't have pronouns the same way english does, so exactly what or who knives is referring to when he says 「見つけたか」 is not actually specified. so we have a potential double meaning that gets lost in translation - knives could be talking about both vash and the dying plant.

...and that ends episode 1. i... did not expect to write this much. also post this before the date turns over challenge failed. i'm tired and i need to go to bed lol.

So this is truly it, huh? Just like that, no more Doom Patrol?

I don't think I can completely explain how I feel about the show as a whole and how much it means to me, but this final episode just left me empty for both good and bad reasons.

WARNING!!! SPOILERS INCOMING!! DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE YET!

The whole Immortus/Butts resolution felt like such a cop-out. Immortus just going "Nah, you know what, I'm fine. Here's your longevity. Oh, and I'm besties with the Butts now. Too-da-loo 🥰" after being presented as their biggest threat ever? Meh

It would have been more cathartic had they somehow defeated Immortus when she was occupied with the Butts and got the longevity thingy off her neck to then run home only to find Rita already dead with Laura frozen with shock/grief beside her. To have them think they managed one more victory but with their biggest loss yet. And for Rita and Laura, the moments before she died could have been used to have a proper conversation and resolution between them. I would have loved if the final scene between them (and with alive non-ghost Rita in general) would have been Laura bringing her the Immortus nail just for Rita to decline cause she's at peace with dying. Even a simple "You're forgiven" would have been enough. And what was the point of telling Laura she's part of the Doom Patrol now to go "Yeah, you should all go your own way now" five minutes after she kicked the bucket???

Vic's ending was expected. It was obvious from the start that he would make it. And I'm glad cause he deserves happiness and to build a future that HE feels is right for him finally.

I'm also delighted Jane (a.k.a just K now) got her happiness both within herself and with Casey. And she's the only one we saw on screen saying goodbye to at least one person properly. Her and Cliff's realtionship was one of my absolute favourite things about the show.

Seems I managed to guess Larry's ending almost exactly. It was so sweet and beautiful. He didn't just return to space with Keeg but Rama as well. Can't lie, I've shed some tears during that scene. And his moment with ghost Rita... 12/10 wouldn't change anything about it

Cliff's ending is my favourite and the one that got me bawling my eyes out. "It's ok. I made it home" Uhm, excuse me?????? How dare the writers break my heart like that???? I am unwell and will need 5-7 business days to recover from it. Poetic, beautiful, amazing, showstopping etc. I love Cliff so fucking much

Also, Shelley? Never heard of her. Try looking in the woods when it gets foggy maybe 🤷

I guessed Rita would definitely die too but her whole "Each of you will be better off on your own" turnaround just didn't sit right with me. She's the one that spent her life keeping this little, broken, miserable bunch of just the unluckies motherfuckers known to the world together and managed to create a family that loves and supports eachother to death and THIS is her conclusion?? That they should just disband? Nope, not buying it. I guess it's somehow a way of telling that now the one that held them together, the heart of the show if you will, is gone that it's all done but I feel like that's a an insult to the rest of them and to the strength of their bond. Yes, Rita's insistence brought them together at first, but they've grown and gotten close so much since then even without her interfering in their one-on-one relationships. It just doesn't feel right. I also knew we'd get a Malcolm reunion scene but am I the only one that doesn't really care about him? Tbh, we didn't get to know much about him beside the fact that he was Rita's lover that tragically died. I just can't care about a character I know nothing about. I guess have fun posthumously frolicking in a field, Rita and Malcolm 🤷

So Jane got Casey and her sanity, Larry got Keeg and Rama, Vic got his friends and students, Cliff got see his family, their future and die peacefully beside them, Rita got to reunite with the love of her life in eternity and Laura got to, uhm, *checks notes*, play with a flamethrower? Like, ok, I do dig that she got to destroy the place that ruined her whole life guns a-blazing but what exactly does she get to do later on? The ones who remained alive all got someone to share their new found joy with, a proper plan for the future, they're at peace. Laura didn't get to neither truly reconcile with Rita, nor the Sisterhood, and now the only people she felt close to either died or went their own way without a true goodbye. What, pray tell, does her future look like beside, once again, loneliness and grief???? I fucking hated her ending. Give us a Laura de Mille spin-off, you cowards. Make it right...
