so im not sure if anyones interested, but, i went through quite a bunch of totk critiques by people who were also very disappointed with it and thought id share my favorite videos i found (granted, i only really wachted those that youtube recommened and its mostly .. white men... things like the orientalism problem are not mentioned at all for example, maybe ill update this post if i find any more diverse voices)

i dont agree with every single point and also dont know most of the channels (aside from the big zelda theory guys) so i judged solely by what they mentioned in those videos and the quality of it (like the audio .. bc i cant listen to bad audio)

in no particular order, also they talk about or use footage of the literal ending stuff so if you arent done with the game yet, better leave these for now

(theres some mention of some things not making sense, like the sonau only being two, and ithink thats kinda bc the english translation was weirdly vague about that, in the german version its much more directly said that they all died out and only rauru and mineru were left of them;

also mentions of how unfitting it is to call the enigma stones "secret"stones in english might come from a similar thing; in german they where called "Mysterienstein" which would be translated as mystic/mysterious/enigma- stone

just wanted to mention that since the vast majority are gonna play it in english only and the stuff online is also dominated by english)

I just realized something kinda annoying about engstars, they let Ra*bits call Nazuna "Ni-chan", but Eichi is referred to as "Brother Eichi" :/ I wish they'd just stick with one rather than make it confusing (especially for people that only have/use the official translation)

Brother eichi sounds like they're in a monastery i'll never get over that. I hear gongs in my head every time i read it. Im sorry to anyone that only uses the official translation though:( for many reasons i wont get into cuz i think i'll sound annoying if i do. Anyway. Rinne and Niki calling Anzu sister is funny tho, i'll give eng that, it adds a vague 2010s american gay layer to their characters that was definitely not intentional but it's there now

new rgg fans will never know what they missed back in ye olden days of the fandom (like, 2019), doubly so now that scott strichart's deleted his twitter and jon riesenbach's privated. twitter was so fucking fun and then whatever-the-hell at sega of america happened and caused a fucking snowball effect and now we have shitass localization and resulting discourse that makes every release nigh unbearable, misinformation, confusion, people complaining about "bad writing/mischaracterization" not realizing it's because of the shitass english loc, i'm sitting here like jesus christ these loc bitches massacred saejima's character voice, people will never see him as he was intended, as original yakuza 5 localization Correctly painted him, and now they're coming for kiryu. god help us. we used to be a proper fandom. before everyone was subjected to the remastered localizations and shaky eng characterization. no one had even played yakuza 3-5, people still called morning glory "sunshine" orphanage, kiryu was our only protagonist and people still called him "boring", it was beautiful...

anyway gaiden uses affective instead of effective because the current localization team is full of careless dumbasses who don't give a fuck about ensuring they're using correct english grammar and this is not an isolated incident

(re: strip club) it gets localized to be him liking 'aggressive' dancers.#in 3 remastered he says he likes AGGRESSIVE DOMINEERING WOMEN and that gets his Gears Turning #or. in 5 shinada says that uno is 'a little sad up top' re: his hair. and 5 remastered he says 'kinda mopey'#because they misunderstood the original english loc and so. completely fucked up the line to mean something else entirely #its like broken telephone #the same is SOMEHOW also happening in 8... i dont know HOW but somehow it fucking is #meanwhile im revisiting zero and going OH YEAH GOOD CHOICE. THAT MAKES SENSE. GREAT WRITING. Also on the subject of me being unnecessarily mean to people, someone asked me why I refused to buy the new P3 remake and I just replied that if I wanted a Persona game with dumbed-down gameplay I would just replay Persona 5.

#im not asking for every Persona game to have SMT levels of difficulty #but I called that they were going to dumb down Tartarus wayyyy too much and from the gameplay footage ive seen im comfortable saying i #was right #maybe if they do remakes of Persona 2 IS and EP ill consider throwing my money #only because its the best in the series and has the best cast #sloot bitches about things #and holy fuck Orpheus's awakening looks like some SFM bullshit now #and i like the new tracks a lot but theres a giant shoji meguro shaped hole in the remixes and arrangements #and its painfully obvious. like none of the remix tracks sound good to me #also the voice acting is actually pretty nice but i prefer most of the original voices #Tara Platt gave Mitsuru a commanding presence the new va doesnt have #aigis's new va misunderstood Aigis's entire portrayal and that shes supposed to be ROBOTIC. not just a monotone person #junpei/Yukari/Door-kun are easily the best. esp junpei. i prefer him actually lol #And Alex Le is clearly putting so much passion into this role. good on him #personally tho i have a...weird relationship to Sega's English localization #like in Infinite Wealth the dubbed versions was starting to piss me off bc its so different from the subbed #and when it comes to scenes like Kiryu's reason for joining the waste disposal it muddles the actual thing hes saying a lot of the time #that said sega hires very professional talented vas even if i dont always agree with their translation choices #p3r is no exception

i got bullied into downloading project sekai today and tbh i dont like the gameplay as much as enstars. i dont like how goods will break your combo in a song and the straight bar that's hypersensitive is not my favorite. also i hate having to pull off holds right away to get them to count bc enstars is super forgiving with that

#<- constantly forgets to lift up again after a long hold if i get distracted with my other hand #also idk if its how the sprites are drawn but they feel weirder to me than the enstars sprites #i will say their english translations for stories are better #oh also you dont. have to pay to unlock songs in enstars. that's a dumb feature #i cant say anything abt the writing but from what i can tell. unlocking the main story is a pain in proseka #and involves getting exp/fans/whatever for the different units #which you also do in enstars but that's all for idol content thats like. side content #the main story you get just automatically and event stories you unlock by doing lives and getting points #like idk obviously everyone has their preferences and i'll give proseka a few more days before i make a verdict on if i #keep playing or not. but i vastly prefer enstars in terms of game play and unlocking content and shit #shay speaks

Rewatching aib s1 with my sister and the subtitles really annoy me😐😐😐

Yo I wanna shoutout to all the non naive english speakers who are constantly talking english during this event

Communication is key to this event and its basically necessary to be in constant communication.

People like Etoiles, Baghera, Pierre, Cellbit, and Pac who dont have another consistent naive speaker on their team who are basically talking most of, if not all of, the time in english. And people like Rivers, Missa, Bagi, Pol, Roier, Quackity, and Forever who do have another naive speaker on the team, but its not guaranteed. And Carre, who mainly gets info from Cellbit, who is speaking in his third language!

They are all kicking ass and doing an amazing job doing so! It takes a lot of mental energy on top of an intense game with an audience watching. And they are on a time limit so its not like they can take time and talk to their audience (obviously i know they sometimes mute and such, but its not as frequently as I imagine they wish they could)

Also shoutout to their audiences and all of you guys who have to deal with our english speaking asses. I wish the translator worked in the group calls so everyone could understand (Quackity pls)

They all deserve so much love and an award for the insane amount of mental energy they have been putting into this event.

Since this has become a hot topic as of recent, in regards to the statement "support other monster collecting games that aren't pokemon"...

pLEASE!!please!!! PLAY YO-KAI WATCH!!! I am BEGGING YOU PLAY YOKAI WATCH!! ITS SO GOOD.

It's like if you took a monster collector, but instead of little monsters you have foreign ghosts with their own afterlives, unique backstories, and personalities! I loathe when people accuse it of being just a poke-clone because it's so much more than that!

Pros include many hours of laughs, playtime, variety in characters and content. Like seriously if ya'll thought things like Pokemon BW and their sequels had a lot of content worth going back to, the 3rd game in the installment should you choose to go the completionist route is 300+ hours. I'm *still* trying to complete it. Also if fever dream, random, cheesy type humor is your taste you'll like this series. It's one of my favorite comfort games that makes my autism go 😊 while I do enjoy the English dub I recommend the sub, not only is it easier to find but a lot of the humor is swept under the rug and a looot of episodes weren't dubbed because of difficulty translating more mature jokes. The anime's humor can be very bipolar. Which leads me to my next point!

Cons include: very bipolar sense of humor. This is mostly in reference to the anime. It gets more riske the more the show progresses, but its also victim to some hella childish humor. Especially early on. Its not a stranger to potty humor. If it gets to crude or tiring I just skip the episode lmao. a lot of it is lost media and it is SO hard to find the anime episodes as well as physical games, especially the English translations. Because this series flopped so hard initially in the Americas a lot of the English stuff has been lost, and those that are found are... spensive... I was lucky enough to have gotten a physical cart of Yokai Watch 3 before it shot up in price. It's easily my most expensive game of... the last I checked... 600 dollars..... oh also if you don't like pikaclones too bad there's duplicate Yokai out the rear. And the fandom rn is incredibly miniscule. If you're a completionest this series might be a nightmare for you because of how obscenely hard some of the things are to collect. I hope you're blessed by RNGesus

People seemed to really like my fanon v canon rant so here’s another rant about the concept of Cybertronian gender and language

Pronouns aren’t limited to he/she/they, and I’m not just talking about Neo and non-mainstream pronouns. Words like “you” and “our” are also pronouns, so the next time you hear someone say “i dOnT uSe pRoNoUnS” yes you do. Literally yes you do(excluding people who are referred to only by name, I’m talking specifically about homophobes and bigots but I digress)

The English language, along with most earth languages, have unique words that can only apply to that language. Of course you can translate as close as possible, but some words are exclusive to that language and you can’t accurately translate them. I speak English and Spanish(specifically Argentinian) and there are many words that I can’t translate into English. My father’s from Argentina so he taught me, and even he can’t translate a few words because they simply aren’t words in the English dictionary.

Now when we talk about Cybertronian, it is a fictional language that directly translates into English. Each letter has a symbol that represents that letter so people can directly translate it. It doesn’t have its own structure or grammar, it is just a silly easter egg.

(Also there’s two main versions of cybertronian I could find but they both follow the same format of what is basically a decoding game)

It’s obvious they have their own language, but it’s presented to us in a format we can understand, but if we’re thinking of cybertronions as a real species than it would not directly translate and just like any other earth language.

Quick but important detail: cybertronions don’t reproduce. They call us organic for a reason. They can’t do the squinty and dirty because they don’t have things to do it with, therefore don’t have a true concept of gender identity or sexual orientation. The only reason they’re referred to as “he,” “she,” or “they” in media is because it’s translated into English, the same way languages don’t always translate accurately.

There are transgender characters but they are for the viewer if anything, and Cybertronian gender is so much more complex if anything at all. A good theory is that humans introduced the concept of gender, but I don’t think that’s the case. Some people might like slimmer frames which just happen to be a characteristic of women. Some want bulkier bodys and to not be as slim, like a stereotypical male. Words like “he” and “she” are translated into words that refer to physical characteristics rather than mental. There’s also instances of this not happening like when Swerve mistakes Nautica for a man despite her having colored lips and a slim body(traits which normally apply to AFAB people)

At the end of the day, Cybertronions are something to dissect with their culture being so vague due to language barriers and Rodimus being British apparently(different areas have different accents, Rodimus is just compared to having a British accent. Don’t think too deep into it)
