BTS in Order - May Pt 1

April bts timeline here.

5.1 ggdd post-time skip, cloud recesses after wwx stabbed. Lwj and wwx talking to lxc. Has widely seen clip of dd sweeping to the side with sleeve out.

- Also bed scene with wounded wwx and open shirt

- GG tells a bad joke - a pun based on LWJ's name

- Gg lists out food he'd like to eat while DD listens (alt 5.9)

- Dd has gg's flute and is pretending it's a sword to fight. Gg tries to get it back but then just joins in the fighting

- Includes DD pretending to slash gg's neck and gg acting appropriately

- Dd sticks his finger in the flute hole bc of course he does. He then flops flute around on his finger

- GG and dd sing together as LXC plays the xiao.

5.1 ggdd. lwj with hair down outside. Dd does lines from the dark knight

- Dd also does that arms out clapping thing at lhk and gg

- Gg later does it back to him. Then gg holds the flute out and DD tries to stick his finger in it

5.2 gg only. With yb and jc after attack on lotus pier

- Gg only. At lotus pier after sunshot but before burial mounds

- Dd outs gg as having eaten a chocolate bar. Gets hug

- Dd then starts plunging his sword in and out of its scabbard. Gg stops him and they giggle

- Clip where dd talks about how handsome Xue Yang is while GG rainbow farts about how perfect LWJ is.

- GG complains about how useless he is in the yi city action bit. DD says it's cute.

- Gg getting makeup touched up while DD sits next to him and plays with tassel. Gg shifts to sit closer to DD. (Possibly the bts camera operator asked him to to more easily get them in same frame)

- Dd wire work. When he's pulled away to work solo, gg says he'll see him later

- gg on lil apple with branch

- dd fight with xue yang. Has several attempts at back flip on wire

- gg in crowd of juniors reacting to something.

- Juniors and DD at uncle's bedside

5.4 ggdd with yubin in a forest post-timeskip. Gg does the cute little dance that dd does in produce 101 to tease him.

- Gg shows yb and DD something on his phone

- Dd fumbles around in sleeve to pull out something for gg. Gg doesn't notice. (He just shows a closed fist and keeps trying to get gg's attention, but gg's paying attention to his phone)

- Dd yawns and stretches and casually rests arm on gg's shoulder. V smooth.

- Ggdd extended discussion with fight coordinator? They keep doing some lean back motion.

- Ggdd chatting (yb there too). Dd wanders off camera and gg starts to follow him but director stops him because he's needed for the scene

- GGdd sit with yb. DD praises gg's singing voice as sweet. GG says not as sweet as dd's, then does the cute kicky steps from dd's dance. DD ignores this and calls gg's voice super alluring and flirty.

- This has a scene where I've seen some say DD is getting jealous at yb for teasingly flirting with gg.

- Throughout the day, gg mentions that he had spicy hot pot and that it made his mouth swollen

- In burial mounds cave. Same setting and costume. Dd just rests hand on gg's shoulder. Makes massaging motions on his neck with his fingers

- Also in cave with a bunch of juniors. Gg pokes DD's nipple with his flute. Dd reciprocates with bichen.

- Gg laughing with juniors. Dd just straight up resting on gg's shoulder, pose casual and head down

- This may (possibly, maybe) the day with the clip of gg saying "delete it" to a WQ bunny scene.

5.5 dd post-timeskip Outside burial mounds cave. Big clan gathering. (Looks like gg's there but it's a body double)

5.5 gg and jyl w bunnies in cloud recess costume

- post-timeskip gg spotting bunnies at cloud recesses

5.5 ggdd. Gg in mask twirling flute. dd getting makeup touched up. Beckons gg over to brush a hair from his face. Or something? After, gg makes a face and points at the camera.

- Gg starts dancing at dd

5.5 DD goofing around with guqin. Gg lounging in bed across the room. Filming all the soft Jingshi scenes, including porch snow bit V important DD+bunny clips

- DD tries to snuff out candle with arm chop

- DD notes that gg's body double looks like him from the back. GG says to choose him, then, but DD says no, he chose GG.

- GG calls DD gouzaizai when DD refuses to give back to bamboo flute

- GG says to camera that he envies dd for being able to stay up late. Then he acts like he got caught saying something he shouldn't have.

- DD asks why wwx wears black if he's with the jiangs. Gg asks DD how he's so handsome. Then they list out lwj's names. They're shooting the shit about their characters.

- Dd leans on gg's shoulder again

5.6 DD only in burial mounds with all clans. Wire work.

- HIS WIG IS OFF AND HIS HAIR IS MUSSED AND SWEATY AND HE'S LOVELY

5.6 gg only. With xl showing him how to dance.

- Also scene with xl yb and jc. After attack on lotus pier.

- Also scene with gg and wq. They also do a little dance together.

5.7 gg xl and jc, inside, after attack on lotus pier

5.7 DD only. LWJ's last stand at the burial mound

5.7 ggdd. Close up, both getting makeup touched up.

- Post-timeskip. Outside. DD has tissue. They bicker about gg's age and then shake hands.

- Dd joins the angry mob against wwx in burial mounds. GG asks if they can replace DD. The director says that DD has already charmed everybody. GG then says (a couple times) that DD is handsome.

- Gg and DD watch something on gg's phone. Dd wanders off. Then gg reacts and rushes to grab DD and pull him back to the phone. They turn away from the camera to huddle over the phone.

- DD helps gg practice for dance. Dd fireball.

5.8 DD only. Changes into hoodie and jiejie starts to remove wig

- DD in yi city with Song Lan

- Includes shot where dd takes off his shirt to change into a hoodie.

5.9 ggdd xue yang yi city fights

- gg only. In the wen dungeon. GG and director talk about a line that is cut that was related to the WQ/WWX storyline. GG and the Dir confirmed that they canceled it.

- DD only w jl, jc, and jin ling. Burial mounds scene. JL mouths "I love you" to DD. DD does the "watching you" gesture while also saying "silencing spell".

5.9 ggdd burial mounds cave post-timeskip. Big clan gathering. Ggdd go over script together

- gg showing off how many lines he has to memorize. he has some trouble getting his lines in this scene.

- While gg is getting oriented to scene, dd puts sword to JL's throat. JL praises him.

- GG asks dd when he's leaving. DD pointedly looks at camera, then they both turn away and gg covers his mic.

5.10 gg only. With jc, wq, and yl. After lotus pier attack

5.11 gg only with yubin. Cloud recesses costume. Outside near waterfall GG and yb goof around about WQ falling from top of waterfall.

Do you also think that Su She's feelings for A-Yao were also more romantic than platonic? I felt like reading it between the lines. With XiYao I was not that obviously for me till I met you.

The magic incense burner in the shape of an elephant was previously in A-Yao's secret room. I found it so striking that WWX, as a paper man, noticed this apparently unimportant object while fleeing the room, that I marked the page and kept it in mind.

With that in mind, do you think Xichen used this item and in his confusion left it in the Lan sect library so Wangxian find it?

After realizing through you that XiYao are canon, which makes me happy beyond words, because A-Yao deserves the world and Xichen is the best boy, I have the theory that A-Yao used this incense burner to meet with Xichen in his dreams earlier.

Do you also think, that A-Yao was loyal to QS, even if they never lived as a married couple and that Xichen doesn't wanted to be the reason to tempt A-Yao to adultery, but that the meeting of A-Yao and Xichen in dreams thanks to the incense burner was for both something they could deal with?

Meanwhile, I understand that one can't believe everything the author says because she tends to joke. In the MDZS Wiki it is said that she has confirmed that JGY and NMJ fought in the coffin for 100 years. That's what makes me saddest. I prefer your theory that Xichen saves A-Yao's soul. Maybe JGY and NMJ really fought each other for 100 years, because there was no other solution, but I depend on the hope, that after that their souls were saved and didn't disappear.

Do you also think that Xue Yang and Mo Xuanyu were friends, even though it wasn't mentioned, not even once? I don't find WWX in Yi city too conspicuous. Su She was there too and doesn't seem to have reported JGY that WWX was reviewed. So Xue Yang most have known MXY + how should he know that his spiritual power was low, to make profit out of it when he attacked WWX? XY and MXY were the same age, both close to JGY and both demonic cultivators. Maybe I overanalyse, but when XY talked with WWX he doesn't seemed to me like a big fan who meets his idol. Of course because he was still mourning XXC and wanted him desperately back, but I guess maybe too because he get to know that a friend of his youth was dead.

I'm convinced that Song Lan will safe XXC's and A-Qing's souls. Maybe it's absurd, but I like the dream that they will get to understand that XY wasn't a monster and make up with him. I have that idea from a great fanart artist. Do you think that's pure wish thinking?

I'd honestly prefer if each subject was asked in its own individual post, but as it is, I will try to be methodical about this and answer each, one at a time.

Of course, this is all prefaced with the warning that this is my current perceptive and is subject to change with a deeper understanding of the character, time, growth, degeneration etc

I think, if there was a romantic connection between Su She and Jin Guangyao, I'm afraid it would only be one directional.

When Wei Wuxian mentions Su She would have to be left behind, Su She's response is for Jin Guangyao to go ahead without him. Jin Guangyao then says thank you and takes the offer. That is not the behavior of someone in love with their subordinate, but the acceptance of a person towards the sacrifice of their guard.

The following is what I think.

Su She kind of treats Jin Guangyao like Wen Zhuliu treats Wen Ruohan, but if Wen Ruohan was softer. Jin Guangyao highly values Su She in the way you would value your second in command. Su She was likely privy to thoughts Lan Xichen didn't know existed. In a way, he knew more about Jin Guangyao. But at the same time, if Lan Xichen had been privy to the same information, his understanding would been deeper because Lan Xichen used to understand Jin Guangyao's substance while Su She may understand Jin Guangyao's actions.

This is, of course, all my opinion which may change over time. I look forward to what your opinion will be once your understanding of the characters has a chance to age.

Hello, plan d-to-i! I would like to ask how WWX would react to someone around the Junior Quartet's age doing three things. One, spend some time with him on one of his solo night hunts (if he does that anymore) and calls him their hero due to his kindness, intelligence, courage, and morality. Two, after experiencing his parental affection and aid, this duckling being an orphan, saying something about how they were told by their parents "that what distinguishes a hero from the rest is the warmth of kindness," and that "with a hero, you know that's alright, because they're there." Third, when WWX is caught off by something on a night hunt, the duckling throws themselves between the attacker and WWX, getting hurt badly and smiling through the pain. Would he take that personally or would he just fuss and brush it off when they get better? What do you think?

I mean this is not really about something that happened in canon so all we can do is guess at head canons. I would look at the way WWX is with the juniors in the Hook Hand extras for ex. Wei Wuxian manages to keep the juniors safe from the arm at Mo Manor, in Yi City from Xue Yang, from NMJ’s temporarily reconstructed headless body, in the Demon Subdue cave when they're attacked by fierce corpses. I find it hard to believe he would let one of them get seriously hurt. If they did (as they did with the corpse poisoning) he's more focused on taking steps to getting them cured. He doesn't take it personally or get hysterical over it. I would reread that scene and maybe this scene could help:

"Lan WangJi peeled open the fingers of the severed palm. The guqin string loosened, and Jin Ling was finally out of danger. Just as Jiang Cheng was about to rush over to see if he was hurt or not, Wei WuXian moved faster than him and grabbed Jin Ling’s shoulders, examining carefully. After he’d determined that the skin on his neck was unscathed, without a single scratch, he finally let out a sigh of relief. ...

The blood that came from where Jin GuangYao’s hand broke off splashed right onto Jin Ling, drenching over half of his body and a portion of his face. He was still muddled, having not realized what happened yet. Wei WuXian, however, pulled him into a tight hug, “Stand farther away from dangerous people next time, you brat, why did you go so close?!”

If the only son of Jiang YanLi and Jin ZiXuan died in front of his eyes, Wei WuXian would truly be at a loss as to what to do.

Jin Ling wasn’t used to being hugged by someone like this. Blood immediately flushed to his pale face as he pushed away from Wei WuXian’s chest. Grabbing him, Wei WuXian hugged a couple more times, with more force, slapping his shoulder hard before he shoved him towards Jiang Cheng, “Go! Don’t run around anymore. Go to your uncle!”

"Wei WuXian, “Later, when the second wave of corpses breaks in, I’m going to lead them towards the blood pool, and HanGuang-Jun will be responsible for killing them. Here,” he patted his chest, “is a target. They won’t pay any attention to you all. Don’t engage in battle, just run outside as fast as you can.”

Lan SiZhui’s voice was loud for once, “How could this be?! You cannot do it!”

Sect Leader OuYang had already given up on stopping his son. OuYang ZiZhen, “Senior Wei, we want to kill corpses too! I can kill a hundred more!”

Lan JingYi even began to take off his own clothes, “I am going to draw a flag on myself too!”

Wei WuXian didn’t know whether to laugh or to frown, hurrying to stop him, “That’s enough, stop messing about. One target is enough. HanGuang-Jun is the only one needed to help me kill the corpses. The others can stop giving me more trouble.”

I don't think WWX would take being called a hero very seriously. If we think about lessons he would impart, probably what his mother taught him,

"Wei WuXian propped his arm on Lil’ Apple’s head, spinning Chenqing in his hand, “My mom said you have to remember the things others do for you, not the things you do for others. Only when people don’t hold so much in their hearts would they finally feel free.”

what WQ told him,

Wei WuXian put his hands behind his back and walked over, “Young man, there are two cringe worthy phrases in one’s life that must be said, no matter what.”

Jin Ling asked, “Which two?”

Wei WuXian replied, “‘Thank you’, and ‘I’m sorry’.”

Jin Ling taunted, “What can anybody do to me if I don’t say them?”

Wei WuXian, “Someday, you’ll say those words in tears.”

& what he tells LWJ, are good places to start.

But, let the self judge the right and the wrong, let others decide to praise or to blame, let gains and losses remain uncommented on. I, too, know what I should and shouldn’t do.

I think above all in that sort of dynamic, it's important not to miss that WWX treats those younger than himself like people. He doesn't take himself seriously at all. He's not dismissive of them as many others can be.

Wei Wuxian felt that he absolutely had to cut them off.

“Cultivators, may I ask a question?” he said.

The group of children had never had their Sunshot Campaign game interrupted by an adult before. On top of that, the adult wasn’t reprimanding them, but asking a proper question. The “Yiling Laozu” looked at him, baffled and wary. “What question?”

“Why aren’t there any members of the Gusu Lan Clan?” Wei Wuxian said.

Jin Ling made a derisive noise. Suddenly, Wei Wuxian said, “I’m sorry.”

The boy stared blankly. “What?”

“On Dafan Mountain, what I said to you. I’m sorry.”

It hadn’t been the first time someone had jeered at Jin Ling for lacking a mother to raise him, but no one had ever apologized to him with such seriousness. He didn’t know exactly what the feeling was, but being slapped in the face with such an apology made his entire body prickle with unease.

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 08 second part

Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!

Flower Town, Continued

The boys continue their ramble down main street. When they see an interesting crowd of people, Lan Wangji wants to hang back, actually verbalizing that it’s too crowded for him. He’s made a lot of communication progress since first meeting Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian reassures him, and hits him with a series of irresistibly fuckable coaxing expressions...

...and then grabs and drags him.

However, WWX only drags LWJ nearer to the crowd, not into it, letting go before he and Nie Huaisang step over to the group. Being taken out of his comfort zone is part of why Lan Wangji signed onto this Wei Wuxian ride, and as they grow closer WWX is learning LWJ’s particular parameters so he doesn’t cause a kernel panic total system crash.

Nie Huaisang recites some relevant poetry and Wei Wuxian praises him for being so cultured. I continue to love how sweet these two are with each other.

Flower Boys

Lan Wangji gets rewarded for his bravery with a flower shower, and he blisses out, gazing at the pretty.

Nie Huaisang blisses out, gazing at Lan Wangji

Wei Wuxian valiantly tries to pretend he’s not totally heart eyes for Lan Wangji.

He fails.

Collecting the Yin Iron

Wen Chao is taking his own road trip, collecting Yin Iron and making trouble for our gang. This Yin Iron chunk is at the Flower Lady’s house.

Is...this a good way to store Yin Iron? It seems kinda precarious and, uh, stupid.

Next he goes to hassle the dancing rock lady, who, like OP, is a hystersister, but unlike OP, isn’t delighted about it. Having her female essence Yin removed some years ago made her hot all the time and now she eats souls if she gets a chance. Mood. Rock Lady needs better vitamins.

Anyway, Wen Chao is actually pretty effective at this Yin Iron getting thing, until he tries to catch Lan Wangji in a roadrunner trap anyway, and I don’t mind saying his dad should have more faith in him.

In between Yin Iron stops, Wen Chao takes a moment to menace Wen Ching, blah blah Wen blah blah Yin, oh my god this storyline is the dullest. But we do get to see her beautiful scabbard up close.

Before Wen Chao frees the rock lady from her bonds, she has a magic circle on the ground, like the one Wei Wuxian broke in Episode 1 by stepping on it. Seems secure. She is also bound in these chains. What are these chains (highlighted with white in the picture) supposed to accomplish, exactly?

Since they leave her front hand totally free, they are definitely not going to stop her from grabbing any of the dumbasses who consistently come and put offerings on the altar directly in front of her, is what I’m saying.

Wen Chao blasts the protection charm on the floor with some fire, and all of the chains fall off, so now Rock Lady is free to get her grouchy on.

Let’s review the master plan for hiding the Yin Iron, shall we? Of 4 pieces of Yin Iron, Xue Yang hid one up his ass somewhere that’s never revealed. The other three were hidden in 1. a well-warded secret ice cave, 2. A public-access temple 3. A flower. This is what happens when you don’t have a project manager.

Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng sit down in a tavern for the world’s most antagonistic first date.

As it turns out, Wen Qing is being helpful. Aggressively helpful. Also, we discover that even when he’s got googly eyes for a girl, future Clan Leader Jiang takes no shit when it comes to confrontations. This is a heartening development, considering his parents’ terrible dynamic.

After Wen Qing delivers her message she tells her team to chill, and gets ready to sneak up the mountain to cause more trouble for her boss.

Flower Lady House

The boys continue to be a few steps behind Wen Chao, getting to the flower lady’s house and finding nothing but a feather.

Whenever we have an overhead shot of roofs I wonder where all the guards went. Possibly I have spent too much of my life playing Assassin’s Creed.

1. Nie Huaisang is very smart and observant 2. Nie Huaisang has super cool braids. There are even tiny side braids snaking up from his ears to his topknot.

Hey babe, how about some eye contact? Okay babe, but make it quick.

Dafan Mountain Town

Meet Granny, who is actually very nice and a good babysitter later in the story, but right now is baked out of her gourd.

Wei Wuxian tucks his sword in between his legs so he can make hand gestures while Nie Huaisang admires his hilt.

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind Because your friends don’t dance and if they don’t dance they’re no friends of mine

The gang wanders through the deserted town, which seemed pretty creepy back when I was young and idealistic and hadn’t seen goddamn Yi City yet.

Now it seems quaint and well-maintained. Also the town isn’t really deserted; the inhabitants are in the makeup tent getting their zombie cracks painted on.

Rock Lady Temple

Baked Granny and Vaguely Hostile Temple Tender Guy are like “sure, you kids can sleep in the haunted house, have a nice time with that” and our gang just fucking goes to sleep all at the same time like they’ve never seen a monster movie before.

Which is hotter: this fire, or this man asleep in this outfit with red laces on his vambraces and his red robe splayed all over the place and his knee up in the air and...ok, really there’s no need to even ask this question.

Nie Huaisang wakes up all scared and startled, and Wei Wuxian subtly indicates his lack of concern.

Rock Lady Fight

Actually, of course, Nie Huaisang’s perceptions are right on the money, and the statue very sloooowly comes to life and attaaaaaaacks them. Spinning ensues.

Wei Wuxian deploys his bondage talisman, this time in yellowish-white. He probably picked blue before to remind him of Lan Wangji’s headband.

The actors are really good at all this mime work. The CGI doesn’t always live up to their efforts, but they manage to sell it, most of the time.

Lan Wangji is a great fighter, let’s see what cool moves he will use to get out of this “hand lightly resting on my sword hilt” situation.

Lan Wangji, are you fucking kidding me?

Eventually the fight choreographer comes back from his lunch break and lets Lan Wangji put his arms down. They finish their scuffle with the rock lady, sticking her back on her pedestal. Lan Wangji uses a magic flint-and-steel maneuver...

...and Wei Wuxian deploys some extra-fabulous talismans.

This effectively keeps the rock lady confined for the next several years, so--go go battle buds!

Zombie Attack

Once Rock Lady is taken care of, the undead zombies living puppets attack.

Battle couple are on the same page throughout all of this, and decide to let go of the windows and doors they are holding closed in favor of putting a talisman on the center door only. Which, in the way of all zombie deterrents, works awesomely for about 2 minutes of screen time and then totally fails.

Duhn-duhn-duhn! We end on a cliffhanger. What will happen? Will our intrepid gang survive? Is Jiang Cheng going to help, since he’s lurking just off camera? Nope

MDZS donghua episode notes

So. I have now watched seasons 1 and 2 of the MDZS donghua, and just started the final one. And I realised that with all the flashbacks etc., I really do not remember what happens in which episode, which is a pain when trying to find something specific 🙄. So, inspired by the aweome Clipper's Guide to the Untamed by @canary3d-obsessed (a life-saver!), I started taking short notes on the going's on in each episode. They don't make much sense as such, perhaps, but if you've seen the donghua, they might serve you as reminders of what happened where. I'll make these for the s3 episodes as I go, and then get back to seasons 1 and 2. I'll also make a master post for these and add a link to that in my pinned post. I put in timestamps for the flashbacks, to help in the timing. And a few screencaps to spice things up.

Season 3: The Final Chapter

Episode 1: Yi City

I think wwx was head disciple because of talent and also the sect needed better cultivators. JFM himself wasn't that amazing, as far as I know he didn't have a title. Yzn does whatever she wants and relies too much on zidian probably. Jiang Yanli can't cultivate and JC is.. well he lost to jgy who is canonically bad at cultivation.

you have some some very valid points about the state of cultivation in the jiang sect. i did a quick check and the only previous gen sect leader to have a title was lan wangjis and lan xichens father. id also assume that the nie clans sect leader probably had a title too, its just never mentioned. but wen rouhan, jin guangshan and jiang fengmian all have no title. wen rouhan probably doesnt have one because everyone hates him and hes always scheming and grabbing for power so the cultivation world is hardly gonna give him the honour of a title, especially because its unlikely he'd do anything remarkable in the name of good. jin guangshan also doesnt surprise me, he does the bare minimum and is also well known for being sleazy and a pervert. but like... jiang fengmian has no title and yet his wife does. i say it could be for his lack of motivation to really go out of his way to be helpful, which could also be a reason for his not so great cultivation.

yu ziyuan having a title, in my opinion, points to the fact that she probably was a formidable cultivator /before/ she was married. i honestly think she might have been able to survive the wen attack if they didnt have someone who could melt cores. its likely that jiang chengs inherits his ability to be a decent cultivator from his mother. even just being able to wield a spiritual weapon like zidian probably takes a least a fairly high level of cultivation, let alone properly be able to control it. jiang cheng constantly loses control of zidian whenever he gets emotional, which honestly just supports the idea that hes a below average cultivator.

like you said, he managed to lose to jgy who he had a tactical advantage over. and you could say he got distracted by jgys manipulation, but at this stage jc should be a seasoned cultivator who literally survived a war, if you can be distracted so easily by the enemy then what are you doing. i mean we see lan wangji in yi city fighting off a hoard of corpses on his own, the su she and xue yang at the same time, all while making conversation with wwx. like come one.

there are times where i makes sense that your mind is elsewhere, say like at nightless city where jiang yanli was stabbed. both wwx and jc were distracted from what was happening on the battle field, so neither of them noticed when a guy ran up with a sword. but jiang cheng actively engages in a fight with jgy and still loses.

but yeah, i get your point. noticing wwxs potential, and making him head disciple despite the consequences it would have oon his family and wwxs life in lotus pier does sound like the kinda no brain cell decision jfm would make.

Even the idea that xy did all this because he was bored...

Connections with multiple characters.Part 1.

I noticed a simaliarity to multiple characters in Untamed,Hannibal(TV series) and Phantom of the Opera.

Jiang Cheng(JC) & Xue Yang(XY) & Hannibal(HL)

Wei Wuxian(WWX) & Xiao Xingchen(XXC)

Xiao Xingchen(XXC) & Will Graham(WG)

Xue Yang(XY) & Phantom(P)

Xiao Xingchen(XXC) & Christine(C)

Song Lan(SL) & Raoul(R) & Lan Wangji(LWJ)

The reason I see similarities between these characters is as continued.

First, let's start the simaliarities between JC and XY.

They are very possessive towards WWX and XXC respectfully. They hate WWX and XXC interacting with LWJ and SL. Watch the Untamed series focused on JC's reaction to WWX with LWJ and XY's reaction to XXC with SL. JC cares about reputation but doesn't want WWX to interact with LWJ even it would strengthen political relations. XY is the same but is a murderer, same as Hannibal and Phantom but onto that later. XY is possessive towards XXC during Yi City. He almost decides to A-Qing but decides against it for now. He does continuously stare at XXC. He always seems focused on him. Strange thing is if you watch both JC and XY, they both seem manipulitive about WWX and XXC. I get JC and XY went through shit but they creepy sometimes. They both have the obsessive ex lover vibe. JC literally attacked both WWX and LWJ after he was being pissed at them and they wanted to leave.

Now onto WWX and XXC, they both are the possession as above mentioned. WG and C also share these qualities. WWX, XXC, WG and C are all people who are being someone else's possession. JC for WWX, XY for XXC, HL for WG and P for C are all possessive towards the other respectfully. Let me explain.

For P&C&R from Phantom of the Opera, P is a murderous man who falls in love with innocent C while R is also in love with C. P and R hate each other to the core. P manipulates C while R is trying to save C. P is very touchy with C.

Next HL and WG from Hannibal(TV series), HL is a murderous cannibal who falls in love with WG a FBI profiler that is on his cases. HL manipulates WG into falling in love with him and killing. He tried to create a "family" with a young girl(daughter figure) and WG. HL then kills her. HL is very touchy with WG. HL too loves staring at WG.

Now XY&XXC&SL, XY is a murderer whose in love with a innocent person ,XXC. He manipulates XXC into loving him and killing. XY hates SL. XY always seemed flirtatious to XXC. XY is constantly staring at XXC.

Now for JC&WWX&LWJ, JC doesn't like WWX & LWJ together. JC does the staring thing too. He is the least to worry about in this.

Episode 9: Setting up the Yi City Arc, Xue Yang and the Chang-Clan, Lan Wangji’s report about the events 12 years ago , creepy sounds of pulling out soul-locking nails, set up for our lovley first drunk in the end:-), total playtime 32:44

Anihilation of the Chang-Clan: and i jump in with a little comment on the sound design of demonic cultivation effects: droning drums, strings, banging and screaching, screaming cultuvators and the cowards outside that refused to help…

1:30-6:00 :

It’s the scene where WWX and LWJ are talking about how much the curse mark is bothering WWX and this little scene between wangxian shows how much more relaxed WWX is now…and Lu Zhixing voice is reflecting that on the point , but now we are getting back into detective - mode, but “…you really can’t do such things without me…”, “Mn.”, Wei Wuxian is teaching Lan Zhan… and i am laughing so hard, because the way Lan Zhan just honestly admits that Wei Wuxian is right (i love the honesty so much, you have no idea:-))….it’s so endearing….my heart….and the other way round that Wei Wuxian, even if he wants to investigate also wants to drink and is pointed out by Lan Zhan….their chemistry, (it is just a daily life interation but it reveals so much about them hmmmmmmm, love it). The whole daily life bgm with the little happy flute, is so cute, it makes you smile!

And yes, they adapted the whole surname thing, but Lan Zhan staggering is not in the sound design but they made a comical jingle and instead we are getting a SMILING Lan Zhan in 12:37/38 right before his line there is a little surpressed laughter and if i could hug Wei Chao i would! You will find Wei Chao’s surpressed laughing breathes adorable(yes, more are coming!) it sounds so cute!!:-)!! Just use headphones and listen a few times, i swear you wil be not disappointed!!

6:30-12:40:

The dialogue with the waiter, and yes, Lan Zhan is a perfect-looking man (in the novel WWX says “such a beauty?”….:-), Lan Zhan whispers the name “Chang-Clan” here, like it rings a bell for him (in the novel we get to know that the whole story of Xue Xang took place while Lan Zhan was in seclusion and punished, so he knows everything just through others telling him), so i think how the audio drama deals with it, is very natural…

And we are choking with WWX on his wine as the waiter points out that the anihilation of the Chang-Clan has something to do with the Yiling Patriarch…wtf.. again?!?….but now the waiter gets too friendly…..:-)…..Lan Zhan stares….”Hmpf” turns around and goes outside….rofl….Is he jealous? Perhaps a little but more important the waiter put an arm around WWX’s shoulder in a very casual way (novel!)….so i think more of the “How dare you touch my husband” - Spin lol….just expressed through “Hmpf”…..*taps micro* “Wei Chao doing a great job to express the How-dare-you-touch-my-husband-Spin with just a “Hmpf”….no really i am impressed….there is no way to misinterpret that in my humble opinion….:-)…but let’s move on to Lan Zhan reporting to WWX about Xue Yang and in the novel the author didn’t write that in a direct way, but Lan Zhan is TALKING the whole time with WWX about the case, but the author didn’t bother to point that out in the novel. Perhaps this creates the illusion for some people that LWJ isn’t talking….but it’s not true. He is!

12:45-22:17:

While they are heading to the Chang residence both talk and Lan Zhan shares his knowledge about the Xue Yang - Case:

Flashback - a little comment to the bgm fhere, the melodies changing from festive to serious suspense or, no sound at all, to battle sounds all the transitions are flawless and even the music is not loud you can feel the mood change immediately. Xiao Xing Cheng and Xue Yang in Lanling (both voice actors are chefs kiss!!!)

22:18- 25079:

They meet the gravedigger, fight him, acting all cool and so is the bgm!!!!! Drums, sword clashes (Lan Zhan attacks first!), and Wei Wuxian’s eerie flute…ahhhhhh, all these battle sounds are great!!! And there is this echoing sucking-sound when Wei Wuxian puts something into the Qiankun-pouch:-)

25:12-29:18:

I felt like i could listen to Lan Zhan forever , their mutual exchanges are gold and the iconic of the the words “One should not comment without knowing/understanding the whole picture”…..hmmmm Hanguang-Jun and while they are talking the bgm is a sad melody with strings, cello and piano reflecting the pain of the past and Wei Wuxian lost himself a little bit and Lan Zhan calls him back softly “Wei Ying.”…….omg…..so soft….so soft….Wei Chao please stop being soft….my heart…..AND now setting up the First Drunk :-))….but hold on it’s just the set up the main part of the first drunk is in episode 10:-)))

Wei Wuxian doesn’t want to drink alone, but before he poures the win,e he is speculating about the hidden emperor’s smile in the jingshi and asks why Lan Zhan hides the wine there and Lan Zhan says “Emperor’s Smile….i didn’t touch a single jar.” and Wei Wuxian: “If you didn’t drink them, did you just saving them for me?” and Lan Zhan simply breaths out … the meaning in my humble opinion is this: “Omg, yes, how did you know you are right?!!!! But well, i hid the Emperor’s Smile in my room to honour your death and it reminds me of you. I had never expected to see you ever again, to give you the wine in person and i hid it because Emperor’s Smile is just only for you and by the way i love you…”, something like that…. and so Lan Zhan isn’t hestating at all and drinks the cup of wine Wei Wuxian poures him….ahhhhh *meltinginapuddleoffeels* and then he falls asleep much to Wei Wuxian’s astonishing….lol all the little sounds Wei Chao is giving to us to characterize Lan Wangji are so precious *criesinwangxian*

29:19-End:

Wei Wuxian summons with his flute Wen Ning and pulls out the soul-locking nails - these sound effects are just disgusting but good, feel free to listen to it without headphones so that the sounds are more in the background:-) and while Wei Wuxian is debating with himself to break the chains with Bichen, Lan Zhan is already behind him….

Ending Song: The unknown Song

So I saw your comment about xue/xiao on this post about cheng/xian and it occurred to me that's even ironic how xy, in his own twisted way of seeing things and according to wwx's deductions, killed Chang Ping bc he "offended" xxc when turning his back on him while jc, on the other hand, went killing people who reminded him of wwx/just in case they had a connection to wwx. And I'm not saying xy is any more right, he is that effed up (and the dissonance is so shocking too, as if it wasn't HIS fault in the first place, that. I'm sorry. but I find it amazing... that's what xy is in the end) but still if you're going to make a parallel with these two, I have to say that: it says a lot that xy, the psycho murderer, kills someone bc, again, in his twisted head he offended "the object of his affection" but jc, tsundere misunderstood grape, kills people bc he relates them to "the person of his affections".

Anyways, that aside but also related to something you mentioned about they not wanting the tragedy of Yi City... You hit the nail on the head. Look, ngl, I personally find annoying of course when people like that anon that also mentions xue/xiao talks about how horrid and how disturbed she finds people like them. I think it's unnecessary bc it's not even like this is about them but jc so why bring them out of nowhere to say such things? And sorry for the tmi but allow me to really make clear that I've never had not even a close to an abusive rs in my life so I hope people finally get that we know to separate reality from fiction and I guess the fact we aren't triggered by it it's also a sign some of us luckily can say irl we've never allowed any dangerous bs from another person.

ANYWAYS, sorry I digress. Back to the point, the truth is that while I find unnecessary to say things like that when the main theme isn't even them, I do understand if some people feel uncomfortable by it, I just believe there are certain fandom etiquettes and it's not the same to talk about how of a horrible person xy is, bc he is, than shading people for being in their corner shipping something problematic. And what's more important about xue/xiao shippers is that so far, in my experience, we are quite "content" with the result? We accept this is a tragic effed up story and we accept it couldn't end well. We aren't, idk, blaming wang/xian for what happens to xy when he and he alone dug his own grave, duh. We like it bc of its tragedy. And I think the best proof is that there isn't as much fix-it fics like people who maybe think this is about being apologists would believe. From time time of course we need some crack, some unrealistic result, some comedy even lol... but I think the reason our ship work for us is bc we like it bc of it is and not bc we project ourselves. Also, I thank God never saw MXTX being attacked by xy stans... I don't doubt there must be some cringey stans like there are everywhere but I'm sure they're a small number. I actually find amusing MXTX being like "why do you ship those, idgi??" 😂 but above all, I respect her bc it's her work. This is not about being a boot licker, I believe it's ok to have your opinions too and not necessarily agree with the author... Too bad that all the MXTX antis I saw are gross about her and they're far from just giving criticism. They're plain bitter haters. It's not like it personally affects me and as if she doesn't have the right to have her own opinions on her story and own characters just bc I happen to ship something I KNOW it's not canon, ffs... In any case we can agree to disagree bc it's also my right to ~romanticise~ whatever I want as long as it's fictional. All in all, I'm grateful she created this story that hooked and these characters I learned to love...

Sorry if this became long and if it's all over the place 😅 but I just couldn't help myself and wanted to bring some points on this whole matter...

So I will break down my comments point by point anon!

On the point of Xue Yang, I find him fascinating along with his relationship concerning Xiao Xingchen. They had built up a relationship on so many lies, and lived fairly happily in that all while Xue Yang was unable to parse out what his animosity was towards Xiao Xingchen his love for him, and his idea of honoring this same person. It is just a mess of a relationship with so much that can't actually be described because even the characters can't separate exactly what is going on there aside from the pain Xue Yang caused because he just does not understand kindness and empathy in a significant way that could have saved himself. It is a gorgeous plot point and awful bond. It's also just at the cusp of Xue Yang being in denial admitting that he DOES miss Xiao Xingchen and his build up of this unconscious guilt for having killed someone he learned to love and know. Especially next to Jin Guangyao who doesn't have this guilt but is very good at speaking like he is, and Jiang Cheng who is not regretful for what he did to Wei Wuxian.

On the topic of ship shit talk: I have no bone to throw here as a defense. I shit talk chengx!an and plenty of pairings with mutuals and friends as a vent, because I find ships ridiculous as much as others. Everyone in my eyes can do as they want, say what they want in terms of fandom made content. It's there in all it's non-canonical glory to roast or praise on all ends. I think the issue here in regards to all of this is the conflation of fanon being made to seem like actual canon and the line of where personal tastes needs to be made apparent. MXTX isn't big on shipping outside of her main pairs, I'm the same with mine for OC's and I am very very picky in regards to this, but fans are gonna fan and Rule 34 is there no matter what. Fandom curating is always the answer if certain pairs get to you that badly. I also think there is a fine line with accusations of romanticizing non-canon pairs and it's place in a real life context towards others individuals as I think morbid material has it's place to be explored safely within literature and entertainment without pearl clutching or holier than though attitudes especially prevalent in English/Western fandom.

People get far too invested within the fandom headcanon space and a lot of vitriol pours out from that. It's a double-edged sword especially claiming to love something from this while condemning a multitude of people (mostly always chinese mainland fans, or other LGBT+ people who do not share the same self-flagellation attitude towards an entertainment piece). Self-flagellation is hypocrisy in my eyes and just because some people tend to make a very loud note of this, does not make them morally superior in sharing the same content as everyone else no matter how they do this.

The Untamed / Chenqing Ling Episode 6-8

I’m sorry for all the spamming !!! I didn’t expect to be so into the live action but it just gets more interesting ; O ; Also slowly getting a crush on Wang Yibo/LWJ’s actor. Last POST I SWEAR !!! until the episodes next week... AS ALWAYS, SPOILERS INCOMING !!!

Ep 6

NHS is late for the party because he wanted peanuts. The boys barricaded their doors and place a silencing talisman over it. WWX teases JC about his ‘criteria’ for a wife and got banned by the whole cultivational world. They fool around as JC tries to murder WWX and NHS is trying to protect him. LWJ walks in, while WWX takes the lead, JC and NHS feigned drunk and ran away when WWX gave the cue. WWX placed a talisman on LWJ and made him obey him and call him ‘Wei-gege’. But when WWX wants to touch his forehead ribbon, LWJ snaps awake and says only family members and his wife are allowed to touch it. WWX is like, “Pfff wife, your Lan sect has so many rules I doubt any girl would was to marry into the Lan Sect.” LWJ is like, “I am fine with that.” and WWX gets awkward... tries to joke and say, “Since you’re a lil fuddy daddy, and your dad is a big fuddy daddy. Does that mean your mother is very ridiculous? (since LWJ called him ridiculous).” and LWJ is like, “I do not have a mother.” and WWX immediately feels bad and offers LWJ his own story too, saying he lost his mother at the age of 4 and cant even remember how they look like. His earliest memories were only being chased by dogs.

The next day, a Gusu disciple reported to LQR and LXC that WWX and co were caught drinking alcohol in the CR. LXC chuckles good-naturedly but spits out his wine when the Gusu disciple says LWJ is also involved, and LXC is like “What?!”

LQR and LXC go out to bestow punishment. LWJ and WWX gets 300 beating each, JC and NHS gets 50. WWX and JC makes JYL baby them and cook mutton stew for them. They meet LXC on the way, LXC telling WWX that LQR and Cangse Sanren used to be classmates, so he was annoyed easily by WWX. He tells WWX to go to the fountain to heal.

WWX goes to the fountain and meets LWJ. They both fell into a cave with a mysterious guqin and a bunch of rabbits. LWJ is like “Why is that rabbit wearing a forehead ribbon.” The guqin starts attacking WWX and it appears to attack anyone who isn’t a Lan. WWX sees the rabbit with the forehead ribbon and asks LWJ to give him his forehead ribbon. LWJ flies over and ties his forehead ribbon around WWX’s wrist.

LWJ performs Inquiry on the guqin and summons Lan Yi. Lan Yi tells them a story:

A long time ago in the Burial Mounds there lived a tyrant called Xue Conghai (Xue Yang’s ancestor??) who as a pet Xuanwu and crafted the Demonic Metal, using human sacrifice to feed it. The Five great sects including Wen Mao, rose up against him and killed Xue Conghai. They spilt the metal into 4 pieces and sealed them away. Lan Yi thought she could use the metal for good and tried to unseal it. Her best friend at that time is Baoshan Sanren, who tried to stop her, but Lan Yi ceases to listen. So she realized her mistake after that, uses her powers to seal the last piece of the Demonic Metal in the cave for hundreds of years. However, her powers are slowly fading and she could no longer uphold it. LWJ swears an oath that he will find the Demonic Metal and destroys it. WWX also pledges before Lan Yi. LWJ is like, “This doesn’t concern you, you are not a Lan.” WWX is like, “Im not heartless. Even though I’m from Yunmeng Jiang, we help each other when the other is in need.” Lan Yi is pleasantly surprised to find that WWX is the son of one of Baoshan Sanren’s disciple and says he reflects Baoshan’s teachings. She gives them the last piece of Demonic Metal and vanishes.

LWJ and WWX returns and finds that they have been gone for almost one day and night. They gave the metal to LQR and LXC, and finds that they already knew about it. Only all leaders of the Lan Sect from generation to generation knew about this secret.

Ep7

LQR and LXC made WWX swore not to tell anyone. On their way out, NHS came to to ask after WWX and asked what happened, LWJ almost told him, but WWX stopped him, bullshit about a big snake trying to eat them and scares NHS off.

WRH sends XY off to Yueyang to retrieve one piece of the Demonic Metal. WC is jealous that he isn’t chosen and seems to have plotted something.

They make lanterns. JZX and JYL ship is thick here. WWX asks LWJ is they want to set the lantern off together. Lwj says he’s used to being alone, but WWX pushes on and says habits can be changed and he doesn’t need to be alone, besides, he made the lantern with LWJ in mind and shows him his lantern with a golden-eyed rabbit. LWJ smiles fainted and it made WWX laugh, saying “You smiled!” LWJ immediately gets nervous and picks up Bichen, WWX is scared off and accidentally pushes NHS’ lantern into the fire. They set off the lanterns and made wishes:

NHS wished that he could pass the exam. JC steals a glance at WQ as she wishes that WN would live a life of good health. LWJ steals a glance at WWX and was impressed when WWX wished that he could help all the weak and poor and that there would be no injustice in the world.

WWX asks JYL what she wished about and guessed that it’s about marrying into a good family. JZX walks off, WWX runs after him and ask that it mean... etc etc they got into a fight. JFM and JGS comes to Gusu and after settling the matter, LQR retains JFM to tell him about the Demonic Metal. JFM tells LQR and LXC about WRH receiving a guest with the surname ‘Xue’ and they were shocked.

WWX tries to cheer up JYL by sending a paper man into her room and she could guess it’s him. WWX tries to run away but was caught by her and he asked her to scold him, but she says it’s not his fault. With JC, they approach LQR and LQR to take their leave back to Yunmeng. On their way out, WWX caught LXC saying “Have a safe journey.” to LWJ and concludes that LWJ might be going to retrieve the Demonic Metal alone.

WWX visits a place and it’s discovered that he took all of Lan Yi’s rabbits and tried to raise them outside of the CR. WWX talks to the rabbits, asking if they’re fine and etc, and he wants to bring them back to Yunmeng but feels like LWJ would be lonely without them.

LXC and LWJ watches them leave and LXC is like “the CR would be quiet again without Master Wei... I wonder how long it will last.” He asks if LWJ wants to tell WWX about his trip, but LWJ says it doesn’t matter.

Ep8

JFM, JYL, JC, and WWX set off to go back home to Yunmeng. On their way, they stop by WWX’s rabbits. As they patted the rabbits, JC is like “Why did you have so many rabbits?” and WWX says he picked them up from the road because he couldn’t tell him he’s seen Lan Yi. JC then, “Could it be that you wanted to eat rabbit meat?” and WWX quickly covers the rabbit’s ears, “JC!! You can let rabbits hear something like that!! They baby...” (I found this so cute!!!) After they left, LWJ passed by the same passage. He greets the rabbits and says he hopes they’ll meet again.

Back in LXC’s place, WC visits him and asks for the Demonic Metal. LXC tells WC go to home. WC threatens him and says he knows that LWJ just descended the CR this morning, and laughs when LXC is shocked. LXC prays for LWJ to be safe.

Back with the Jiangs, JFM found a letter with a smiley face left to him by WWX. JC is mad that WWX left without forewarning and says he’ll catch him back, but JFM says it’s fine. JYL tells JC that if WWX left, it must be because it’s something important.

WWX and LWJ gets a random change of (more attractive) clothes. WWX runs after LWJ and annoys him, LWJ calls him ridiculous but lets him onto the boat anyways. WC is seen stalking them.

LWJ is moving too fast and WWX asks him to wait for him, but LWJ ignores him, so WWX creates a string using an array so that he and LWJ are tied together and couldn’t stray apart from each other further than 2meters. It just ends with LWJ dragging WWX across the mountains. They arrive in a city and met NHS.

JC leaves Yunmeng to find WWX. JYL caught him, but lets him and tells him to be careful. JC appreciates that she’s supportive of his decision.

WWX and NHS fooled around before WWX noticed LWJ is interested in a crowd of people and asks why he isn’t approaching them to see what’s up. LWJ comments that there are too many people and he doesn’t want to crowd. WWX takes LWJ’s hand and runs into the crowd regardless, NHS tags along. They notice they were all crowding upon a sign that says [novel reference] if you recite a poem correctly a beautiful fae would appear and show herself to you. They bask in flower petals for a while then later finds out that WC had came earlier and took a piece of the Demonic Metal from the fae, so she’s gone.

On the road, NHS starts associating himself with them as WWX tells him about their quest. WWX begins to get a little annoyed that NHS is being too intimidate with them. NHS was like “So if we’re holding one piece of the Demonic Metal, wouldn’t that be dangerous?” and WWX responds, “What ‘we’? It’s just me,” points at LWJ, “and him!! There is no ‘we’ !! you just tagged along from nowhere!!”

WC scene again. WQ tells WC that they should go to Yueyang to aid Xue Yang, but WQ says he knows that WQ is prevent him from getting near WWX and LWJ and warns her not to use WRH to threaten him. Here WC reveals that WQ’s family (Granny, A-Yuan, Uncle Four) were all from Dafan mountain and WQ says WRH promised not to hurt her family. WC laughs and says he is going to awaken a man-eating beast (hint: goddess).

JC runs into WQ in a coffee shop. WQ purposely picks a fight with him by copying all his orders and actions, and uses the opportunity to tell JC that WWX is in trouble in Dafan Mountain. JC thanked her and runs away to WWX’s aid.

WWX, LWJ, and NHS meet an old lady on the road (suspect to be A-Yuan’s Granny). Granny seems to be mumbling about a goddess coming to life as WWX asks for a place to sleep. She leads them to a cave. Uncle Four walks out and tells him that the goddess was originally a rock who developed a face after receiving prayers from many, but was sealed/controlled by someone powerful. WWX saw the cenotaph in his hands having a ‘Wen’ character and asks if that someone ‘powerful’ is from the Wen sect, Uncle Four insist that he doesn’t remember.

At night as they slept, NHS had a nightmare and woke LWJ and WWX up screaming. The goddess suddenly comes to life. WWX and LWJ teamed up to fight her. In the process, the goddess was mainly attacking LWJ persistently so WWX asks LWJ if he thought she fancied him, and LWJ asks him to shut his mouth. After that, WWX and LWJ sealed the goddess, but a bunch of walking corpses suddenly appeared and started attacking them. WC’s black phantom bird appears and NHS points it out. WWX is like ‘stupid bird.’
