Prompt: ''Run, run, that's all we ever do from our past but it will come back haunting us.'' You paused, staring into the brown eyes that you once had fallen in love with. ''Do you think it'll stop before we even die?''

A/N: more glimpses of the reader's past is coming through. and yay, i published this chapter because we're gonna finish it.

You and Kaz walked through the farmers marked while you scanned through the crowd in hope of finding the goat that the conducter had instructed. He looked at you and waved his hands to gesture that you were the one to pick. You beamed and saw the smallest one, adoring the way he stood out from the rest.

You picked the goat out of the pen as Kaz handed the Kruge to the man as you petted the goat. ''We need a name for the goat,'' You spoke as you looked down at the goat. You felt Kaz's eyes on you as you turned around and saw his amusing eyes. ''What?'' You asked, offended.

''Nothing,'' He spoke and kept walking. ''How about Milo?'' You questioned and kept walking through the market. All you heard was that Kaz let out a hum from his lips, making you roll your eyes at his attitude since he wasn't really interested.

Not far from where you standing, you saw a crowd surrounding a man while the others were protesting. ''They want you to believe the Sun Summoner has been found to finally tear down the wall that divides us,'' A man spoke as you and Kaz glanced at each other.

''Yes!'' The crowd shouted. ''How many times have we been feed a story like that? And how many times have we west been told to send out sons and daughters through the Fold for another year?''

''It's time we accept that we need to break away from the old country, now is the time to form our own country to keep what we make and what we earn, instead of sending it to the east,'' You heard the crowd cheered in response. ''For the true Ravka!''

''Is that Arken?'' You asked, noticing a familiar figure. ''It is,'' Kaz responded.

''Wonder where he is going,'' You replied. ''Nothing good,'' Kaz commented as both of you walked away from the crowd. Suddenly, you heard a familiar heartbeat, noticing that Inej was with you. Over the times, you had a hard time of noticing the heartbeats around you, it took you years to learn that everybody's heartbeat was different to recognize, but now, you could recognize anyone if Jesper of Inej was around you - including Kaz.

''He's adorable,'' Inej responded when she saw the goat in Kaz's hands. ''I know,'' You smiled. ''Don't get attatched,'' You heard Kaz comment and you rolled your eyes. ''Even if if just a few minutes that could end a lifetime of questions?''

''I know, I just thought, that if I saw their names on there, I could let the idea of them go, this thing?'' You watched as Inej grab her necklace under her clothes. ''This was all I had when I was sold to the menagerie, and if it was worth anything Heleen would have taken it, but this is a just a simple token of faith that my mother switched, Kaz, this is all what I have left of them,''

You looked at Inej with pitiful eyes. You knew how it felt to not knowing if your family was alive or dead. When you were younger, you could still remember the death of your parents that haunted in your mind and that was all you had left from them. Plauged memories.

''It's beautiful,'' You responded.

''Unless,'' Inej began to say before Kaz interrupted her. ''Hope is dangerous,'' Kaz replied with a firm voice before looking away from her. ''It clouds your judgement, pray, scream, do whatever you have to do to push this out of your mind and move on, we all have debts to pay,'' Kaz spoke and walked away.

You let out a sigh. ''Hope is dangerous, Inej,'' You responded. ''You have hope for Kaz,'' Inej pointed out. ''I know, but I may do not hope for the answers that I don't know the answers for,'' You replied softly, placing your hand onto her shoulder for comfort. You watched Inej as she looked down on the ground with grief.

''Where the hell is Jesper?''

Kaz questioned as the three of you was on the skiff along with the Arken. You shook your head, knowing that Jesper was probably wandering around. ''Just a little further,'' The Arken spoke and got closer to the Fold.

You saw the sign in front of you. ''Landmines,'' You said and gestured toward the sign. ''We'll wait, follow the path that you carve,'' Kaz responded.

''That's a sign, that was my idea to keep people away, can't be too careful, we're fine, come,'' The Arken said and walked ahead of you. You, Inej, and Kaz shared a look before walking after him and being careful to follow the path where the Arken carved. You never liked the Fold, as it sent chills to your core.

Kaz noticed your discomfort and glanced at you with a concerned expression. You noticed his gaze to meet his eyes and gave him a look that you were fine. ''It's one thing hearing about it, but this is-''

''Nothing compared to what lies within,'' The Arken interrupted her and handed her over the torch. Arken walked closer to the Fold as you watched him pull a lever and saw a train coming out from the shadows. ''Here, so, goat, jurdga, thank you, now were' just waiting on...''

''Wait for me!'' You heard a familiar voice and saw Jesper coming towards you with hurried steps. You noticed that the people were after him. ''They can't see the train,''

''Jesper, get here, now!'' Kaz shouted.

''Leave the lantern,''

''Landmines!'' Jesper shouted back, making you roll your eyes and look at him like a disappointed mother who would look at their child.

''Who cares! We have places to be!'' You shouted back as you saw a bullet almost hit Jesper. Jesper dropped the lantern. ''Oh, wait for me!''

''Dont you go without me!'' He shouted and you sighed. ''Wait!'' Kaz helped you to get inside of the train and then getting in after Inej. ''Come on!'' Kaz shouted at Jesper from the inside of the train as Jesper threw the sack of coal over his shoulder and jumped into the train.

Inej pulled the door shut as you heard the rest of the men from outside shout.

''Please tell me you have 20 pounds of alabaster coal,''

''Slight snag in the plan, turns out the kid who was helping me buy the coal, didn't know exactly how to, uh coal,'' Jesper informed, making you look at him with a deadpanned look. ''We know that you gambled it away,'' You spoke.

''I lost a little bit of money,'' Jesper replied, you raised your eyebrow knowing that he lied. ''I lost all of the money,'' Jesper admitted.

''Jesper,'' You scolded. ''I know, I know,'' Jesper waved you off before turning to the Arken. ''But, I uh, managed to steal 20 pounds of alabaster coal,'' Jesper spoke and handed the bag it over to the Arken and took his coat off.

''No, no, there's 16 pounds,''

''16 pounds of alabaster coal,''

''Can we do it on 16?'' Kaz questioned him. ''Never been done before,'' The Arken replied. You heard more gunshots hit the train as the Arken moved around and tried to set everything up. ''Sit here, never shift your wait,'' He spoke and placed Jesper onto the bench as Inej walks over to Jesper.

''You've crossed that many times?'' Inej asked him.

''It's a numbers game, cross this often and you get nightmares,'' The Arken responded and opened the stove, Inej prays with her knife as you heard an explosion goes off, causing Jesper to look outside.

''Landmines,'' Jesper spoke as Kaz looked at the Arken. ''I thought you said they weren't real,''

''I said nothing of sort, I just said I put the sign myself,'' He responded and pulled the lever in and the next thing you knew it, all of you were going into the Fold.

People like to claim that season 5 Steven is a wimpy dork that wants to talk-no-jutsu his way out of every situation he’s in

But like. That’s only half-true. Steven doesn’t want to fight unless it’s completely necessary.

For the most part, he’s content with trying to find a way to settle conflicts violence-free, really only saving the bloodlust for when he’s facing down corrupted gems
