can you write thenamesh The Tourist AU pls? if you can’t/don’t want to it’s totally alright i love your work anyway <3💌
Gil just stared. He couldn't believe it, and he was seeing it. But this woman - the most beautiful woman he had ever set eyes on in his life - just...sat right down. He looked around a little, trying to see if she had mistaken him for someone else. But she was looking right at him. "Uh, h-hello."
"Hello." God, even her voice was gorgeous. He closed his lame little spy book on the table between their seats. "I'm Thena. What's your name?"
"Gil."
"That's a terrible name."
"It's the only one I've got," he shrugged sheepishly, and she smiled. This was different from the smile she had sat down with, too. This was more genuine seeming (cuter). "It's short for Gilgamesh."
"Hm," the woman's eyes dashed down to the table for a second before coming back up to him. "Better."
It was still the only name he had. "So, uh, what brings you to Venice?"
She eyed him, and then those killer eyes floated a little away from him too. She still seemed to be looking for someone, even if he was the one on whom she had settled. "Meeting someone."
"Ah." Of course--of course the positively stunning woman was already meeting someone. Probably a husband, if not a very handsome partner. He watched as she peeled her gloves off.
She didn't have a ring on. "And you?"
"Hm?" he blinked, still borderline dizzy from the appearance of this woman in his life.
"What brings you here," she paused, her perfect lips forming his name before it was spoken aloud, "Gilgamesh?"
"Just Gil," he corrected her and then immediately shook his head. She smiled again, though--that more real one. He smiled too, somewhat encouraged. "I'm just a tourist, really."
She tilted her head at him. "Just a tourist?"
Gil blushed faintly, fiddling with the worn and frayed edge of his book cover. "I teach."
"Here for summer break, is it?"
"Something like that," he chuckled, looking at her hands again. It was entirely possible that she simply didn't feel the need to wear one. Or perhaps they had been together so long it was a formality. But he couldn't help but tilt his head right back at her.
"What?"
He shrugged, shaking his head faintly. "Look, far be it from me to ask a lady this. But you seem...I dunno, a little lonely?--or something."
But she smiled at him again, although it was back to being that faker one. It did seem a little sad, though. "Aren't we all?"
He was a single teacher taking a train to Venice alone, who was he to talk? "Yeah, I guess we are."
"Wife?"
Definitely not. "Nothing of the sort. You?"
She looked down at her hands too, and maybe the lack of ring was not entirely by choice. "That has yet to be seen."
Were they going to be engaged? Or maybe was she was going to break things off, offer some dramatic ultimatum.
"Invite me to dinner, Gil."
He liked how she said Gil. It sounded so gentle and warm off her lips. Truly stunning lips. He cleared his throat, "would you like to have dinner?"
"Don't phrase it as a question."
"You said ask you to dinner."
"I said to invite me to dinner," she countered, and hints of the smile were returning. She was a woman who knew what she was after (god he liked that). "Try again."
He laughed, but sure, he gave it another shot. "Have dinner with me."
"Too demanding." Okay, now he was pretty sure she was just having some fun with him. "You are not summoning me. Again."
He sighed and rolled his eyes, and he did get a more genuine laugh out of her. Y'know what?--so long as she was having fun, maybe this wasn't so bad. "Uh...dinner?"
"Still a question," she borderline teased him. She leaned forward in her seat faintly, "once more."
One more shot to have dinner with the woman of his dreams. He straightened up in his seat, rolled his shoulders back and tugged at his sports coat. She seemed to respond to this, mirroring his posture. "I'm having dinner, if you care to join me."
Now the smile was back, and in full force. She smiled with all her teeth, which was really cute. She had a very pretty smile for an even more beautiful face. But he got the distinct impression there was a lot more to her than her looks.
"I would be delighted."
"Well then," Gil nodded, tapping his fingers against the edge of the table and its white table cloth. He still didn't know what made her come over to him, and ask him to dinner (or ask him to ask her to dinner, more like). But he smiled, "shall we?"
"Lets," she agreed. She was waiting for him to make the first move again.
Okay, sure; Gil stood, adjusting his plain old blazer and tugging at the sleeves to make sure they were straight. He was a little underdressed compared to Thena in her stark white dress and fancy gloves. But he held his hand out for her, "madame?"
"Enchante," she smiled, slipping her hand into his to stand as well. Her eyes darted around a little over his shoulder but perhaps he was being paranoid thanks to his silly spy book. "Have you had the food board?"
"From Padua to here," he nodded as he led them in the direction of the dining car. How she walked in those heels was beyond him, even if the train was pretty smooth a ride. "It's not bad."
"Padua," she mused and them grinned at him again, "you really are a tourist."
He pinked again, and he was beginning to think she just enjoyed flustering him. "Where are you coming from?"
She did that thing where she kind of scanned behind around them again before answering, "Paris."
He scoffed, rolling his eyes, "overrated. And you call me the tourist."
She tugged at his sleeve faintly, as if to admonish him, "you're the American."
He chuckled, "guilty."
"Not yet," she whispered as she moved in the train aisle to walk ahead of him. He was about to ask her about it when she turned back to him, "are you ready for this?"
He wasn't entirely sure what she was asking about, but he was damn ready to find out.

Help With Groceries and Transportation
hihi folks. I hope you're doing well. I...wish I could say I was but things are rough. I'm struggling for work and my health is just bad. It's not getting worse currently but, the plateau it's chosen to rest on is painful and exhausting and every day is a struggle. I do what I can to continue.
I'm reaching out to see if I could get some help with groceries and transportation. I tried to visit my mother for mother's day to try and get food. Basically begging and...it's pretty bad when I want to ask my mom for help but I hate asking for it. It...didn't go well and she currently and possibly for a long time doesn't wanna speak to me. I didn't really speak to her before because I get constantly deadnamed and misgendered by her but...I'm very desperate for help. I really wish she would...just accept me but I know that's not what this is about.
Tumblr media
I'm currently looking into assistance where I live but it's not looking great again. I think what I need is $80.00 in total. That would be enough to cover my over draft and transportation to pay my rent, get groceries, and anything else I might need.. Any help would be appreciated. I'll put my things to send to below.
Payton Pals: harphazardly (Legal Name on this one and a picture of a plush Flareon)
Cashmere Applications: $Generallyalive (Has the name Chuck on it)
Venice Monet: mindnum (Also Legal Name)
Again, I'm sorry for asking. I really am. I hate having to but...what can one do but pray and beg? I've applied to so many jobs and...nothing. I really would like some help and I hope you all have a good day if you see this. Thank you.

NEW STUDENT PT.2
--------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
part one
plot: the big school field trip is finally here and you hazel share a room
warnings: none, not proofread but I don't think I made any errors:)
word count: 0.9k
notes:thank you fruity ppl for the attention on pt.1🌚this is again boring so:3 anyways this if the last chapter y'all but I'm write smth else soon!! anyways I hope you enjoy this lame follow up🔥🙏🏼
--------------------------------------------------
for every senior class there was a special school trip, this year your school saved up money for it instead of taking you guys to a cheap motel an hour away like they've done the other years.
this year you guys are going to Venice. I mean sure you're staying at a hotel with no heater or locking doors but it's better than what they did last year. the flight was an excruciating 12 hours of students screaming, singing and trying to keep each other entertained, but when you got there it was sorta worth it...
when you got to your hotel everyone rushed out of the bus making your bag fall into a puddle of water, already off to a great start. inside it was very fancy looking...but also old looking, the walls were cracking and it smelled like a creepy old neighbor. the guides explained how the rooms would work, they were dividing it in boys and girls with each room having a king sized bed.
"okay so everyone is going in twos so partner up!" the teacher explained, everyone quickly chose their partner, you looked around and saw hazel alone, the only time you guys talked was her first day of school, sure you guys did exchange numbers but no one actually texted first. walking up to hazel you were building up the confidence to ask her to partner up, you tapped her shoulder and she turned around looking you in the eyes before dropping her gaze down to the ground.
"hey do you wanna stay in a room with me?" she looked up at you and nodded with a smile, you both went to your room and settled down, there was a knock at the door before the teacher peeked in telling you guys everyone was going out to dinner in an hour, after accepting the invite the door closed leaving you guys alone once again, "so are you going hazel?" you questioned hoping you had an excuse to sit by her and talk more.
"i don't know, I mean are you going?" she asked her voice cracking mid sentence, "yeah I am, if you don't wanna go that's fine I'll just tell the teacher tha-" you were quickly cut off by hazel, "if you're going I'm going so uhm..." you swear you could see her blush just a bit. after a good twenty minutes of getting ready, it was time to go, you and hazel walked out and met everyone else down stairs.
the restaurant was again fancy but old, is everything here fancy and old? you all sat down at your assigned seats, you obviously next to hazel, the waiter came by and you ordered something simple nothing too expensive. as people started talking and things got a little louder you thought it would be a great time to actually have a full conversation with hazel.
you turned to hazel and spoke,"how are you hazel? you know you never texted me" she turned to face you and got eyes slightly widened at what she would call your boldness, "oh sorry I forgot I guess...but uhm I'm good, how are you" hazel let out a breath she didn't even know she held in, you were shoked at her full not very awkward phrase.
"well I'm pretty good, life is pretty boring but I think this trip is gonna be fun" you smiled at an attempt to add some positivity to the conversation, so it's not just awkward lesbians trying to talk. "oh yeah they have some cool art museums here you know? I think we're going to some while we're here" you were not surprised by hazel's interest in art, you chuckled at hazel's enthusiasm about museums.
"well maybe you could tell me more about your interest mh? you thought letting her rant about things she likes would keep the conversation going and well it did! for the rest of the dinner she talked about her skills and other cool things about herself, you learned she can build a very "small" bomb and knew taekwondo, who knew she was so interesting?. when you got back to the hotel somehow it was already 10pm, you both got ready for bed and got into your guys shared bed.
you kept thinking about wanting to do something, like maybe kiss her? or maybe just share your feelings with her? you didn't know what exactly but you just had to do something, "hey haze?" you thought maybe using a silly nickname would maybe show her you've loosened up, she looked away from her phone and looked straight into your eyes, suddenly you wanted to back out but you couldn't, I mean what were you gonna tell her If not that you like her.
you put your knees to your chest and wrapped your arms around them, "I think I like you" you quietly blurred out, her eyes widened before relaxing them, "oh well...I think I like you too" she couldn't contain the smile on her face and she felt her face get hot, you smiled back at her and moved closer to her, "can I kiss you" you said so quietly it was almost not even a whisper.
she moved closer to you and gently put her hands on the sides of your face, "yes, please" she whispered back, you leaned in and finally connected her lips to yours, her lips were soft and warm against yours, after a few more seconds of a sweet kiss she pulled away, you couldn't help but giggle a bit and smile, "does this mean we're like girlfriends now?" she asked you, you thought about it for a moment before responding, "yeah it does".

Hello dear friends, hope I'm finding you well on this evening, tonight I wanted to present a black and white close up photo of my sculpture Wisdom.
This was a sculpture I finished up last year and was a portrait of my dear late Grandmother, which I decided to call Wisdom. I've shown this sculpture as a colour photograph, but I also like to present art works in black and white photos too.
Very very soon I'll show the next photo of The Lost Boy Of Venice in the making. Hope your having a fine week so far, Take care 🤗😌

I just realized one thing. When Marius took Amadeo back to Kiev (I know the modern spelling is "Kyiv", but I'll use the spelling Anne Rice used in her works while speaking of XV century, OK?), he was uncertain whether Amadeo will visit and come back to Venice, or... you know... whether he will see Kiev and decide to stay. Still, he agreed immediately. I feel feelings.
Tumblr media
Other notes on Amadeo's journey to his homeland:
Maybe Amadeo was really supposed to remain small even if he wasn't turned in his teens - his mother was a small woman.
And he probably has her eyes, because Ivan's eyes were blue, but brown eyes are a dominant trait, at least one of Andrei's parents should have had brown eyes.
It saddens me that his mother remained a nameless character. Just like Lestat's father, but, unlike Lestat's father, she did not deserve it.
Andrei had elder sisters - one of them got married while he still lived with his family. And there was another sister, Anya, who became a woman while he was away (at first he mistook her for his mother), but for some reason she still lived in their father's home...
And there was Andrei's uncle Borys, a good singer, young enough to be his brother, but already as big as Ivan. Well. Maybe Amadeo was supposed to remain small. We'll never know!
It's sadly ironic that Ivan lived the rest of his life firmly believing he DID save his son from the horrors of religion. (And yes, I agree, he is such an underappreciated character!)
Also, when Amadeo left his family, he promised this time he would write. A promise he could not keep, as we all know.
One thing I totally agree with - NO ONE should live in a place with long winters. *looks out of the window with disgust and despair*
Also. The description of ruined Kiev hurts in a very specific way - like, you open a book to escape from reality but reality catches up with you. Ruined Kiev in XV century and Kyiv under fire in XXI. Forget vampires, something I think we humans are the worst evil.
(Sorry for being bitter, it will happen again.)

Hi! I know asks are closed, so don't answer this one until you're done with everything else, please! 💕 I'm happy to wait because I dunno when's the next time I'm visiting tumbly 😂 Do you have any Nico-centric fic recs? Mostly centered on family? Thank you! And good luck with the others! ❤❤❤
Hi!! I hope this reply reaches you because Nico's family is my religion. 😭😭😭 The good news is that I do have some nice recommendations for you!
The other news is that I consider Persephone a part of Nico's family too so be aware that I'd include her! I'm a die-hard believer of Persephone-Nico step-mother-and-son/ begrudging friends/ defenders of the Underworld and I'm not letting that go.
Flowers Bloom Until They Rot by HoneySim (Solangelo, Will finds out Nico is not the son of Hades but of Persephone)
But I would die for you, in secret by deathboy-and-solace (LWritesx): Nico and Hades's attempt at family bonding!
Hold My Hand, I'll Guide You Home by Higuchi_Sora: AU in which Hades raises the Nico and Bianca in the Underworld instead of sending them to the Lotus Hotel. Peak wholesome. Persephone is the best step-mother. Little Nico is the cutest. PLEASE TRY. TRUST ME.
威尼斯午后 by qsxcguik: I know, I know, it's not English. But dammit if this isn't the best Nico-Hades plus Bianca, Maria fanfic I've ever read. 😭😭😭 This is basically a day of their family back in Venice, 1937. I use Google Translate and still, it's such a good fic, you know? I still hold this close to my heart. Please give it a chance, you won't be disappointed.
oh, darling, don’t you ever grow up by babyimafirefighter: Hades-Nico again. They have problems but they're trying. This got me teary every time I came back reading.
Happy Birthday, Have a Zombie! by shiiki: Hades gifting Nico a zombie driver.
bring me home by Rehearsal_Dweller (Solangelo, Nico & Jason): Hades helping Nico with Jason's death.
Family by apollosmortalangst (orphan_account): The Underworld family in the eyes of Cerberus, more Cerberus-centric but this is such a good fic and I cried and you'll have to cry too.
as the trees do by manywheels: Nico and Zagreus! But only if you know both PJO and Hades game lol since this is a crossover. But eh i haven't played the game, only got a vague idea of what it's about but I still enjoy it a lot, so maybe you would too!
And now. My time to shamelessly push my own works ehehe:
Hold me like we're going home in which Nico falls in battle and Hades brings him back to the Underworld. I also have another which is Hazel-centric that talks about Nico's pomegranate seeds: Wait for me please, I'll wake you from this long dream
This is also supposed to be a series in which Nico stays and heals in his father's kingdom with the help of other chthonic deities. Well, that's the plan at least LOL. I'm still trying, anw I'd be very glad if you can give this a chance!
That's about it Ig. Hope you have a great time reading!! Now excuse me I have to go and reminisce on all this old bookmarks

Some scattered thoughts about worldbuilding in Genshin Impact
Mondstadt is tiny compared to all the other* regions of Teyvat, though the city itself is big. However, what's really interesting to me is how close it is to Liyue, which is huge. I joke with my friend that one of the best and funniest things about Genshin is when you first start and after a while the game tells you "you wanna go to China bro? It's just south by that road" and you go and you're indeed in Liyue, no problem, it's so easy.
However, in realistic terms this makes me curious about how a small nation like Mondstadt next to Liyue would develop in realistic terms. The contrast between European-inspired Mondstadt and Chinese-inspired Liyue is striking... however, the thing is, they're just a road trip away, and not even a big road like the Silk Road, they're just next to each other. There are no major geographical barriers like with the other nations of Teyvat. And people like Xiangling do cross the border like nothing all the time, so it means there must be lots of contact between them. There also seem not to be any linguistic differences or barriers, but every RPG ignores that so I'll do it too.
What I mean is that Mondstadt should probably have a LOT more influence from Liyue than what we see in-game. This is especially interesting given that historically China (and Liyue is obviously a stand-in for China) has influenced the nations and cultures around it and they have influenced it too. I would imagine this would be the same for Mondstadt.
So it would be fun to imagine Mondstadt to have some more influences from Liyue. You kind of see this in game sometimes, but it might be more obvious in the architecture, in the dress, maybe more subtle things like spirituality or the organization of the knights of Favonius. Not a complete copy of Liyue, of course, but its own unique thing with lots of influence from it adapted to its geography, environment and people. And also, given that it's the "City of Freedom", it always sounded like the real-life city states of Italy or more like Germany to it. It also fits, since it seems to be a major city-state strong on its own (though unlike Liyue, you don't see a big port, and historically that's how big trading cities were born... however, well, there's teleporting in Genshin, so we should ignore that), something like Venice, in fact, a city in the middle of a lake screams Venice. Interesting to think about the Venetian Republic or the Hanseatic League right next to China. How would that develop?
*of course I know the real-world answer: Mondstadt is intended to be the "starter town" and it was probably the first to be developed, and as the developers got more confident they added bigger and bigger regions until we got the bloated, I mean beautiful, mess Teyvat is today.

HoTD moots I'm sorry again. This isn't my last pjo rant.
I'm continuing the deep dive into the Did Leo Bully Frank allegations, moving into House of Hades, where things get a bit more murky.
I'm not going to fully recap MoA read my other insane nerdy rant, but basically. Last we left them, Frank had disliked Leo, been antagonistic towards Leo, Leo was nervous around him and teased him a few times, they finally talk and become friends. But, everything is kicking off on a sour note. No one is happy.
Right at the beginning of HoH, we don't actually get much interactions between Leo and Frank until these scenes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd like to note here that Leo's birthday is July 7th. so that's fun. He's not feeling too great about all the ghost talk. I didn't include it, but there's a scene of Hazel talking about Leo being angrier and more serious early on as well. Leo is thinking about loss and death quite a lot in this novel.
Then we get to Frank's pov and Boy Is It Different.
First, I'll also point out Frank remembers the whole his clothes getting sent out and destroyed on Buford but very clearly doesn't characterize it as Leo 'throwing his clothes overboard'. Even in the state Frank is in, he knows Leo didn't purposely destroy his clothes.
But Frank still has issues.
Tumblr media
You can note that Frank actually starts off this thought process by essentially complementing Leo, but then Mars and Ares pop in - suddenly, Frank is now saying how Leo constantly teased him.
This is one of those things I think people are going to interpret differently depending on your bias. I have a Leo bias, and having shown that Leo was NOT constantly teasing him in MoA, at least from what is written, I think this is mostly influence from Mars/Ares. Leo does tease, he teases Jason in this book I think more than he does Frank, so I wouldn't ever say Leo doesn't tease people, he absolutely can be a little shit; but the difference is that it's rarely maliciously done on Leo's part. When Leo noticed Frank was embarrassed at the end of the last book, he stopped himself from making comments. We've also seen that Leo is also not great at realizing if his comments are being taken negatively, even if he doesn't mean them in that manner.
However, like I said, Hazel noted Leo's been stressed, not sleeping, and angrier than usual at the beginning of HoH. Leo blames himself for what happened to Annabeth and Percy. Leo is starting to think he'll probably die, and he's horribly lonely. Maybe he has been razzing Frank more offpage, and we just don't see it written. But because we do not see Leo explicitly dig at Frank's weight or looks or intelligence, I am personally still more of the opinion that it's the product of Mars/Ares.
We then get this scene
Tumblr media
Frank says Leo had stopped making jokes at his expense here, but again, not trying to beat a dead horse at this point, we've not really seen Leo do that at all this book. Frank now has more confidence and feels more worthwhile in his place on the Argo after his Venice battle- I think Frank is now less insecure and those voices are piping in less. Again, I could be wrong, but this seems very similar to last book. Frank spent the majority of the book being very antagonist, then wonders why on earth Leo would be nervous around him. There's things clouding Frank's judgement that clear up, and suddenly, he's getting on with Leo much better. Shocker.
(that being said Frank does suggest leaving Leo in Croatia just for making a pun not even at his expense, so make of that what you will lmao)
Reaching the Calypso chapters, there's a lot I could get into. I'll eventually do a break down on just them and why I don't love caleo, but I'll save that for another day. Still - Frank is someone Leo actually makes a point of trying to help once he finds out Calypso has fireproof fabric.
Tumblr media
Frank is his friend in Leo's mind, someone he wants to save too. Leo is big on trying to save people. I wonder why, definitely didn't come from childhood trauma or watching his mom burn to death or anything. Moving on.
Finally, Leo returns from Ogygia, Frank is said to have patted him so hard on the back it made Leo wince. Clearly he hates him.
But in all seriousness I think the slow progression of Leo and Frank's relationship is one of the better done character developments in HoO. It's slow, it's subtle it culminates in Frank hugging him next book, and Frank using Leo and Jason as inspiration for using up his wood piece.
The big scene to finish off this book are these pages. If Frank hated Leo, if he felt like Leo was only ever mocking him, trying to hurt his feelings, this would not have happened.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frank trusts Leo.
Leo trusts Frank.
They're not afraid of each other anymore, they're not scared. They mutually trust one another and know they'll have each other's backs.
That is why Leo trusts only Frank and Hazel with his plan in the next book.

Sherlock & Co Locations
Location, location, location. Are you like me and not a native Londoner? Are you also like me wondering how to visualize a place or, perhaps more importantly, how long does it take to get from 221B to the various locations and how much they're spending on tube fare?
Well then look no further! This is my masterpost with links to each location described in detail in each post made on those locations. Each post gives a bit about how far from 221B it's located (depending on travel method), how much it likely cost them to get there, photos of the location, and a bit of the location's history.
Every time we get a new locale I'll add a post and link it here. :) Lmk if I miss any and I'll add them. If you see a location and it has no link then either the link broke or I haven't made the post yet, but logged the location.
Cheers!

im dangerously obsessed with frank zhang rn so here's a "little" thing about him bc people don't realize how complex his character is. Buckle in cause this is a long one.
Frank arrived at camp (correct me if I'm wrong) about two weeks after his mother died. The night of the funeral was the night he found out he could die at any moment if a wooden stick caught fire. (Again, please feel free to correct me about the timeline and stuff.) Frank travelled from Vancouver, Canada to California. A 415 HOUR WALK. As far as we know, he did it illegally too. All while still dealing with the fact that his mother had recently passed and his (low-key kinda neglectful) grandmother was now his legal guardian.
We see how in the first few chapters, just how much Frank is drawn to archery, his grandmother even chastising him about his obsession. He wishes to be claimed by Apollo. Yet, after he wins the war games for his cohort, he is claimed by Mars. Mars, the god of war. The god of violence. The god of what killed his mother. Frank couldn't be less like him, or so we think. Of course, Frank doesn't want to be violent, but it's shown on multiple occasions how his first instinct is to fight.
When he sets off on his quest, there was no way for him to know what would lay ahead. There was no way to know that he would meet Iris, who would show him his gift. Speaking of Iris, however, this where something very interesting happens. Iris claims he is connected to the stick because he 'had too many gifts'. This confused me on my first read, because how could he have too many gifts? He could shapeshift, sure, but it's not like he had any other major powers or anything. That's where I was wrong. It was confirmed in a book, I can't remember which one, that children of Mars and Ares have control over the dead, as long as they were on the losing side of a battle. So no, he doesn't only have one power. He certainly has skills, too. He is gifted in war strategy and tactics, as well. Making him an absolute unit in combat.
Of course, how could I talk about SoN with our bringing up the whole Zhang mansion chaos? It begins with Frank, Hazel and Percy in desperation. They resort to going to his 'grandmother's house' as he calls it. Not his house, his grandmother's. (This has absolutely no significance I just wanted to point it out). His grandmother is quite literally on her death bed when they arrive, Mars at her side. When Frank and his father have a one on one, Mars mentions how he is 'Junos secret weapon'. While talking about Gaia, he mentions that - in a direct quote - " I think you worry her more than Percy or Jason or any of the seven." This ties back to Iris' comment. He is too powerful.
Grandmother Zhang seems very shitty, and for the most part is. She has told Frank that "Men do not cry, especially not Zhang men" which we can see ties into a quote further on in the book, after the mansion catches fire and they're on the plane back. Percy mentions that "Frank kept his head down, as if he was ashamed to have been crying."
What people don't mention about Frank as much, is that he lost his only family about a month or so apart. A month.
People don't like Frank because of his conflict with Leo, but what people choose to ignore is the fact that the arguments started after Frank started hearing Mars and Ares in his head. And as we see in HoH, Mars and Ares are very pushy. Some of his behaviour could be contributed to his anger at Mars, who he now hears encouraging him to fight the Greeks at every opportunity, and some could also be contributed to Leo himself, who caused the Mars and Ares fiasco, and who also teases him at every chance he gets.
it's getting very long now and I'm getting very unmotivated so I'm gonna leave it here and if I think of anything else I'll edit it :3
The moment we've all been waiting for... the Venice incident, when Frank killed between 200-300 monsters. He was blessed by Mars afterwards, and is described to have been more confident. Even Leo had stopped teasing him.
And THIS, dear readers, is why Frank is the physical embodiment of "I'm not a violent dog, I don't know why I bite."

blackwatch!cassidy x gn!blackwatchpilot!reader
(set during the Retribution archive mission)
WARNINGS: canon-typical violence, description of flying, swearing
an: i looked up way too much stuff about fighter jet tactics for this. also, pretend that walkie-talkie channels work similar to discord calls because that's how i imagined them lmaooo
Overall, you liked being a pilot for Overwatch. It was fun, all things considered. You got paid pretty well for only having to fly a dropship, and you got to live on base. You might not be in the front lines, but you were one of the best pilots on the force. The only drawback is when you're the best in the business, you are the one they call in first.
That's how the night started. You were lounging in your room, reading a book and enjoying your night off. That was until your phone interrupted you. Your ring tone chimed out, breaking the silence you had been enjoying. You considered ignoring it and continuing to read, but you conceded and picked up the device.
Morrison.
It was never a good sign when Morrison was calling you at the late hours of the night.
You sighed before answering it. "What's up, commander?" You greeted.
"I'm going to need you in the hangar in 10. Intel came in about Antonio and we're running a Blackwatch mission to Venice."
You held in your annoyed sigh. You were hardly able to reply, "On my way," before he hung up the phone.
You put your bookmark in the pages before getting up to put on your uniform. You left your room, already mourning your night off.
You had to ask for a bonus for this or something.
You made your way to the hangar, seeing Morrison waiting for you.
"The four of them are already on their way to Venice. We gave them transport that could fly under the radar. You just need to get to the evac point to pick them up once they get Antonio into custody."
You nodded. You started to say something, but the commander was already marching off. You give a light chuckle before making your way to your ship.
You looked around the cockpit before getting into your seat. You didn't waste time getting the jet to the runway. As you took off, you heard the commander's voice ring through your earpiece.
"While they are in Antonio's safe house, their communication might be jammed. You should be able to get in contact with them once they breach the door."
"Got it." You replied. You started your flight. Once the dropship was able to be put on autopilot, you pulled up a map of the city. You knew where the evacuation point was, but planning a route could prove difficult. It would depend on how much Talon presence is in the area, of course, but it wouldn't hurt to get a good idea.
It was a long flight to Venice, around three hours. You passed the time listening to music, occasionally humming or singing along softly.
"I didn't know you could sing, y/n."
You jumped hearing Morrison's voice through your earpiece, instinctively turning the music off. You need to start remembering you're on an open channel.
"It's not something I usually have to do in this line of work." You said nervously. He made a noise, what you thought was a chuckle. You took some pride in making him laugh, as it wasn't a common occurrence.
By the time you were entering Italian airspace, Captain Amari chimed in. "They're heading in now. You should be able to contact them upon breach."
"Understood, Captain." You said. "While I have you, is there any way I can get a satellite scan of the area?"
"I'll see what I can do." She said.
It wasn't long until you received the scans on your monitor. "Thank you, Captain." You chirped, knowing you most likely wouldn't get an answer. The higher-ups were very busy and could be a little stiff, but you still practiced manners when you could. You liked to believe it would help you on your evaluations.
You were looking over the scans, noting where the soldiers were stationed. This landing was going to be hot, but that was normal with Blackwatch.
You jumped slightly as the background noise of the fight on the ground flooded your ears. They must have breached.
"Looks like I'm gonna be your ride outta here. Head for the evac point, Commander."
Cassidy looked back to Reyes, still in the lobby they were about to leave. He was dealing with the last of the Talon enforcers inside. "The commander's a little busy right now, but we'll be there." Cassidy said.
You chuckled lightly. "Is that you, Cassidy? You know, you still owe me money from last week's poker game. Maybe I oughta leave you here," you quipped, a stupid grin on your face. You were clearly messing with him.
"Hey now." He said, his nerves apparent. He seemed to be a bit pissed off already, some of that anger bleeding into his words to you.
"See you at the art gallery, cowboy."
The relationship between the two of you was certainly something. An outside observer would probably think you two hated each other, but it was certainly the opposite (at least for you). You definitely had feelings for him, but you pushed them down in return for playful fighting and sarcasm. Better to repress the feelings rather than lose your friendship, right?
Overwatch really needed a psychiatrist on payroll.
You continued your flight to the courtyard, listening to them over your earpiece. There wasn't much else you could do.
"They've dispatched a sniper." Genji muttered before setting out to sneak up on her.
"Wow, Talon must've deployed a whole army, huh?" Reyes boasted as he took out Talon soldiers with ease. He seemed like he was having the best time of his life.
Cassidy, however, was not. "Yeah, and you just had to kick the hornets' nest, didn't ya?" He retorted, sneering at the commander.
"What do you mean?" You asked. Did something go wrong? If something happened you wanted to know so you could accommodate for it.
"Do you wanna tell y/n what you did or should I?" Cassidy spat. It was funny to you how they considered you an authority in this situation, squabbling like children.
"They don't need to kn-" Reyes started.
"Antonio's dead, y/n."
Things started to click once he said that. You didn't need to ask anymore questions about it. It explained why Cassidy seemed so short with everyone at the moment. You would be too if your commander went rogue during a mission. You thought about paging Morrison, but you didn't need Reyes to be even more worked up.
"That's not ideal." You muttered, trying not to get involved in it.
Apparently the ground team wasn't the only one Talon was mobilizing. Your radar began beeping, a quick glance showed surface-to-air missiles being fired. You cursed under your breath.
"Everything good up there?" The cowboy drawled. It was hard to tell if he was being playful or genuinely concerned.
"I got it, mind your own battle." You shot back. You weren't being mean, just focused at the moment.
He chuckled, rolling his eyes. "Yes, ma'am."
You were lucky you weren't face to face with him. Your face flushed at the comment, almost making you forget about the missiles.
Wait. The missiles.
You looked back to the radar, firing off the flare to create a new heat source. You slowed the engines, eyes glued to the radar as the missiles veered toward the flare.
You muted yourself from the channel on the ground. They didn't need the distraction. "Is there anyway we could jam the SAMs? I should be out of range of the last one but I'd rather not have the heat." You asked.
You almost didn't expect an answer as you waited a few seconds in silence, but the silence was eventually broken. "Got it." Morrison replied.
"Thank you." You chirped before rejoining the call on the ground.
"The whole city must be awake now." Moira said, clearly unenthused with the current situation. You would agree with that.
"Can we just focus on getting out of here alive?" Reyes retorted. He was clearly dealing with some resistance at the moment.
Moira chuckled. "Maybe next time we can choose a less suicidal plan of attack." She spat.
You looked at the radar, flicking through some of the thermal scans provided to you by Ana. You were maybe twenty minutes away, which seemed like you would be there just in time when they reached the courtyard. But they depended on how much resistance you and the strike team faced along the way.
"Shit, is that an assassin?" Cassidy asked, his voice a mixture of annoyance and disbelief.
You shouldn't have even thought about how much longer this would take.
"Cole, you have an arsenal of flashbangs, you'll be fine." You joked, and he could practically hear your smile through his earpiece. You heard him rapid fire before he responded.
"What was that thing you said earlier? Mind your own battle?" He said, mimicking your playful tone from before. You could imagine the smug smile he had right now.
Part of you was shocked that he even remembered. It wasn't necessarily because you thought he didn't pay attention to you (which is totally false), but because he was in the middle of a fierce battle.
You chuckled in response, not getting time to say anything before Reyes interjected.
"Looks like it should be smooth sailing from here." He said, confidence flowing through his veins as the art gallery appeared into view.
Not two seconds later, you heard a large crash.
"Oh you just had to say it didn't you?" Cassidy spat.
"I would like to retract my previous statement. We are definitely not out of the woods yet." He seemed unphased by what you assumed was some kind of heavy assault unit.
"I'll note that for the record." You said, maintaining a light tone despite your slight disdain for the commander.
You listened to them bicker until your radar started to beep. Two Talon aircrafts tailing you.
"Listen, I picked up some company on the way in. I'm gonna try to shake them but it may take a bit." You said, initiating the startup sequence for the jet's shields. Between that and the missiles, you would be able to get rid of them, it would just waste a little time.
"No problem," Reyes started, "we're used to waiting around
"-and getting shot at." Cassidy joined in to finish the sentence, the two speaking in unison.
"You two are adorable." Moira said in her usual serious demeanor.
You held in a laugh, trying not to get distracted as you jerked the wheel, tilting the plane to avoid enemy fire.
"Don't make me laugh when I'm flying." You said jokingly, firing your own missiles and boosting the engines.
You watched as one of the planes where hit, plummeting down. You hated that part of the job, but if you didn't do it, you'd be the one crashing.
"Fancy place they got here." Cassidy said, looking around the art gallery as they entered.
Moira didn't seem enthused. "Try to keep it all in once piece." Seconds later Talon soldiers dropped in from the ceilings, breaking the glass dome.
"Tell that to them." He joked before getting started dealing with the new arrivals.
"What's your status, pilot?" Reyes ordered.
The way he said it made Cassidy's blood boil.
You sighed, rolling your eyes slightly. "Finding a way to slip into the city," you said while firing more missiles at the other enemy aircraft. "Next time make my life a little easier and stick to the plan."
You heard the commander chuckle. "Where's the fun in that?"
"It's plenty fun, trust me." You countered. You rolled your eyes, trying not to be too rude with your commander. No matter how you felt about him, he still outranked you at the end of the day.
As the four of them entered the courtyard, they seemed to have a temporary break from fighting. Surely there would be more resistance on the way shortly.
"So, is this what we've become Gabriel?" Cassidy asked, clearly fed up with him. Rightfully so, as Reyes really put the whole team in jeopardy.
"Blackwatch has always had one purpose: to do the real work of keeping the world safe." Reyes shot back. "I thought you had the stomach for it. Guess I was wrong."
The enemies started arriving at their position. Cassidy, however, continued venting his frustration. "Well this is your fault, commander! We had a plan! We could have walked Antonio right out of this city! I didn't sign up for this!"
Reyes clearly wasn't actually listening. "Maintain operational silence, Cassidy." He ordered, disdain in his voice. The cowboy scoffed at him before continuing the fight.
You knew better than to think this was only frustration. Cassidy was scared. You knew he would vehemently disagree, ranting about how he was just angry with his superior, but you knew it was all an act.
The four of them seemed to quiet down. You presumed it either they were focusing on the fight or they were just sick of bickering. It proved to be the former, as once the sounds of gunfire faded in your earpiece, they began to speak again.
"Y/N, where the hell are you?" Reaper asked, clearly getting frustrated with waiting on you.
"I'm just entering Venice airspace, it shouldn't be much longer." You said, eyes flickering to the monitor before you. The radar seemed clear, which was a good sign.
Reaper rolled his eyes. "Are you serious?" He yelled.
You really weren't going to put up with this.
"Listen I wasn't intending on flying into the middle of a war zone! You're just gonna have to sit tight until I get there." You retorted. Screw being nice to your superiors, you didn't care what the consequences were at this point.
"Well if you aren't here now you might as well turn around."
Oh if only you could.
"Woah, don't listen to him, you're getting us out of here." Cassidy said, seemingly playfully but you could hear the worry through it.
You turned your attention to the monitor. You had some communicator settings on your end in case they were busy back in Gibraltar. You flicked through the options, finally finding what you wanted.
You kicked the other three from the channel. You'd add them back soon, but you needed to do something.
"Cole?" You said, voice softening compared to how you were speaking to Reyes.
He hummed in response, hearing his rapid fire before he spoke. "What's up?"
You suddenly blanked on anything you had planned to say.
You stuttered slightly before clearing your throat. "I just wanted to apologize for the command-"
He laughed lightly. "No, you don't have to do that."
You sighed softly. "No it's just, I'm coming I promise. Five minutes tops. He's being an asshole and making everyone nervous and-"
Cassidy clearly started to catch onto the situation. On one hand he was a little embarrassed you noticed his worry, but on the other your were obviously right. "Well I appreciate that, b-"
"Pilot, how much longer?" Cassidy heard Reyes command. However, it didn't come through his earpiece, rather he heard it from across the courtyard.
"Wait a second, did you call me separately to tell me that?" He asked, a playful tone over his amazement that you were actually worried about him.
Your brain immediately shut down. You stuttered slightly, trying to figure out what to do fast. You could feel your face heat up, praying that your blush would disappear by the time you picked them all up.
"Uh yes, but please never mention this again, okay?" You rushed out. You heard his laugh as you reset the call to the original settings, the four members on the ground now able to hear you.
"Sorry commander, I was answering Captain Amari real quick." You lied, desperately making an excuse. You made a mental note to ask her to cover for you. "Head up to the roof of the restaurant for evac. T-minus three minutes." You responded.
Reyes was obviously still annoyed with the time it took you to respond, but at least you were picking them up. "No one do anything stupid." He ordered.
Cassidy laughed. "We won't. You had that covered this mission."
You held in your laughter as you worked on decelerating the engines further and lowering the elevation. You hovered down towards the roof of the restaurant, opening the dropship doors.
Just in time too, as a larged group of enemy forces arrived at the scene.
The four of them jumped onto the ship, shutting the doors when you heard Reyes order you to. Man he was getting annoying.
You throttled the engines, the ship accelerating and gaining elevation. Mission success.
You could hear Reyes talking to Morrison through the communicator. He was skirting around the topic as much as he could.
You didn't have much time to eavesdrop however, as Cole Cassidy stepped into the cockpit.
"Hey." You said, keeping your gaze out the windshield. Heat rose on your cheeks again as he sat in the chair next to you.
"Can we talk about something?"
The words from the cowboy made your head spin. You were confused and scared and excited and every other imaginable emotion.
You cleared your throat. "Yeah, what's up?" You said, focusing on not letting your voice crack.
"About that money I owe you-"
You looked over at him, seeing a shit-eating grin adorning his face. He was really messing with you. Well of course he would.
"Do you think we could talk about it over dinner?"
You were even more confused and scared and excited. But even more, you wanted to wipe the smug look off his face.
"Sure, we'll call it a date."
His smirk turned into a look of surprise as you began to smile. He didn't get much time to respond before Reyes was calling for him. "You should probably go see what he wants," you said playfully.
Cassidy stood up and left the cockpit, a soft smile across his face.
You too had a grin, staring out the windshield smiling at nothing.
The events of the night were much better than that book you'd been reading.

Dev Journal 2: The world of Tellus
This is the current draft version of the world map for my homebrew campaign setting. It was cobbled together using a mix of Fractal Terrains 3, Photoshop, and Wonderdraft. It's been interesting going through each iteration and trying to land the particular combination of alien and familiar that I want to achieve. If a fantasy world is too Earthlike, it becomes difficult to break away from expectations of what will be found in each area. But if its too alien, the player's expectations of what might be found in a region become harder to visualize. This particular version has not quite accomplished what I'm trying to find yet, future iterations will likely venture more into the alien side of the spectrum. However, this is a good start and while this world is quite familiarly shaped, it'll have some very interesting geopolitics. As a starter, you may notice that there's not much distance between many of the continents. Seagoing exploration by the Tellus equivalent of the Greeks, Phoenicians, and Polynesians would have likely achieved something equivalent to the Colombian Exchange much earlier than our world. Likewise, trade between the Orient and Occident is much easier, which will create some fascinating opportunities for cultural exchanges. Vast quantities of wealth flow through these vital trade arteries, meaning that any nation with ambitions of being a power worth considering will require a substantial fleet to protect their interests. Tellus is still embarrassingly underdeveloped so far, with vast amounts of blank space in my documents, but I'll provide a brief description of each continent and its major powers and provide more details later. Names are all provisional and may be changed in future drafts; I like to use placeholders and end up changing them frequently. In the descriptions below I include equivalents to RL nations, this is meant as a reference to their closest geopolitical analogue, not that they are necessarily clones of that state. Belus: Obviously this world's equivalent to Europe, differentiated largely by the presence of an inland sea. Directly to its north is the Grey Sea, to the south is the Medial Sea. Its greatest power is the Second Empire of Abdera; a sprawling feudal mess equivalent to a super-HRE, stretching from this world's equivalent of Spain to Germany. More often at war with itself than outside powers, the Second Empire's stability and prestige have had an alarming decline due to the emergence of the Republic of Brennos (eqv. Napoleonic France) within its former territories. The Second Empire's neighbors, particularly Dynne (eqv. Great Britain) play a delicate game of exploiting Imperial weakness while trying not to throw the continent into complete chaos. To the east, the Empire of Melate (eqv. Ottomans) are recovering from a century of decline with a reformist empress on the throne. Their strategic position and the exhaustion of their Belusan rivals fuel the ambitions of elven revanchists.
Azbine: Essentially Africa, Azbine is a huge & diverse continent in terms of politics, climate, geography, and population density. Its northwest coast is largely divided up into feudal possessions of the Second Empire, as well as daughter republics of Brennos legitimized by peace treaty. The northeast corner, south of the large peninsula that is Melate's heartland, are the Majeri Republics (eqv. Venice); an oligarchic federation of city-states that are wealthy and loyal protectorates of Melate. Their cities are among the wealthiest on the planet thanks to the trade routes they sit upon. Along the eastern coastline are small kingdoms and city-states that also thrive on (or prey upon) trade between Azbine and Dahae, as well as Alamgiri colonies (see Dahae below).
Nirimzad (eqv. Congo Free State), the vast territory of a clan of green dragons, encompasses the circular sea in central Azbine and its surrounding coastline. The dragons squabble and intrigue against each other, unified only in extracting as much wealth as possible from their hunting ground. Their warlords and slave armies would likely overrun much of the central continent were they not constantly pitted against each other for the entertainment and petty grudges of the dragons. Alwealde: South America, duh. The northeast coast is primarily occupied by the Kingdom of Selvas - a secessionist colony from the Second Empire that's also a feudal mess of direct colonial holdings and integrated native vassals. A federation of city-states styled along the lines of the Delian League control the rest of the eastern coast; they are theocratic governments run by a priestly class with rulers descended from a planetouched bloodline. Hesperus: A handful of Belusan colonies with competing territorial claims squat on the coasts as well as the independent nation of Ladrinne (eqv USA) where the losing Parliamentary faction of the Dynnish civil war fled and established a government in exile. Ladrinne styles itself as the rightful government of the Dynnish islands. The old guard aristocrats are naturally fading away and being replaced by revanchist radicals inspired by the Brenne Revolution. Eastern Hesperus is easily a potential powderkeg for the next war, whether due to colonial competition or Ladrinne's parliament finally deciding to expel the monarchists from 'their' continent. Elsewhere in Hesperus, the natives are doing better than OTL, having never suffered the same population collapse from disease as that which followed contact. Tola: Obviously an Asiatic continent, Tola's central steppes are the domain of orcish tribes and petty kingdoms (eqv Mongols). To the west, Ryaz principalities and successor kingdoms to an old Orc empire crowd against inland seas and compete for coastal access. To the east are the Golden Lands, the richest agriculture lands in the world thanks to a series of great lakes and high mountain glaciers that feed dozens of rivers. The agricultural wealth of the Golden Lands unfortunately also brings much ambition; the region is divided between six states with a variety of ideologies (eqv. Chinese warlord era)
Dahae: The Dahaen subcontinent is home to what's likely the most powerful empire in the world, Alamgir (eqv. Mughals). Alamgir's orcish ruling class possess sprawling lands teeming with millions, a strong export economy, and a large, well-trained military that is regularly tested in border conflicts with its neighbors. Alamgir shares the subcontinent and its archipelago with several other major powers and dozens of minor states.

Vesuvia Geopolitic!
So, I wanted to fill some gaps about this city, because I love it so much.
Chapter 1- where I stole my headcanon from
It's kinda obvious that Vesuvia it's heavily inspired by Italy, ad precisely by 9-16th century Maritime Republics. They basically were relatively small cities / lands with HUGE economical and militar power (how huge you ask? Well, Venice had beef with the FUCKING PERSIAN EMPIRE. A city on a muddy lagoon with like some thousands of people was a big problem for a legit empire. Just for scale).
Moreover, on of the ealriest republic was Amalfi, who -surprise surprise- it's basically below an italian volcano, called... the Vesuvio (rings a bell?).
In Vesuvia there seems to be lots and lots of cultures mixed together, just as in the mariner republics, since they didn't only have beef with the african/asian empires, there were massive trades going on between them and people ended up very mixed.
Plus, there's literal canals and gondolas and the Masquerade. I mean. 100% Venice, the most popular and powerful mariner republic. And Vesuvia it's CLEARLY a smut-centered society, like Nadia and Lucio have bot side dicks chicks? Not a problem, exactly like in 1700 venice, where being a married noblewoman's side dude was a legit job. The Servant Knights or Cicsbei were a married woman's "gay friend" who keeps her company and protects her reputation except he's very much not gay and everyone is lowkey ok about it, expecially her HUSBAND who was usually the cicisbei TRUSTED FRIEND - I mean, rich women had sugar babies. Publicly.
So thanks for coming to my approximate and not very accurate historical lesson, and let's go ahead about how the geopolitic works in the game IMHO.
Since it's a long thing, I'll cut it here and complete it later. Just for a preview, here's the chapters title:
Chapter 2- why is Lucio, an ex- mercenary, "Count" but also the absolute ruler?
-the previous government
-the independence
-the title
Chapter 3- why did Nadia (a royal princess) married Lucio?
-politics & war
-the arranged marriage
-the lack of a legal system
Chapter 4- how is Vesuvia THAT rich?
-the trades
-culture get to vesuvia
-geography
-the plague

DOCTOR WHO TOP 10 - 11th Doctor
My favourite of the New Who Doctors. I started with his era and it changed my life.
10. The World Tree
Tumblr media
A recent addition to this Doctor's EU canon, I utterly love this little story. It's another winner of the Paul Spragg Memorial, so you can download it for free on the Big Finish website. I urge you to do so.
9. The God Complex
Tumblr media
Having previously written School Reunion and Vampires of Venice, I presume Toby Whithouse's reputation in the Who fandom was something along the lines of "he writes the fun, fluffy ones". The God Complex is his first darker and, well, more complex script. And it really, really works. I have a soft spot for most of his episodes anyway, but The God Complex is probably the most ambitious one. I adore the visceral liminality of that hotel, it's so good. (Also, I choose to ignore that nonsense reveal in The Time of the Doctor.)
8. Apotheosis / The Child of Time
Tumblr media
These two basically form a two-parter, so I'm putting them together. Although, for the record, I prefer Apotheosis, contrary to what Jonathan Morris presumes in his commentary at the end of the comic strip collection. Mostly because I love Dan McDaid's art so bloody much, but also because of the atmosphere, setting, clever use of the medium (the stuff with the beard ROCKS), and nuns with guns. But The Child of Time is also pretty great as a big, satisfying finale full of fun twists. I said it before, I'll say it again - Morris is a great chameleon, perfect at writing excellent Doctor Who stories while using voices of other excellent Doctor Who writers. I mean, he admits in the commentary that he wanted to get the strips close to Moffat's style and I think he definitely succeeded.
7. Amy's Choice
Tumblr media
It's a shame Simon Nye never wrote any more Doctor Who, because Amy's Choice is a stellar character piece. Toby Jones' Dream Lord is such a memorable presence and the connundrum this episode presents is really fun and unique.
6. Space in Dimension Relative and Time
Tumblr media
one best the is it but One Year Doctor's eleventh in one-shot experimental only the not It's. clever really, really it's yet, simple It's. it read go all should you and story timey-wimey unique and fun really a in potential full it's to medium the uses Williams Rob.
5. The Eleventh Hour
Tumblr media
The episode that hooked me. The episode that changed my life. I fully believe this is the best episode to show to someone new to Doctor Who.
4. The Rise and Fall / The Other Doctor
Tumblr media
A two-parter, with the first part written by Al Ewing and draw by Boo Cook, and the second part written by Rob Williams and drawn by Simon Fraser. I've only read Year One of eleventh Doctor's comics published by Titan, but I strongly feel the story of the Doctor taking on SERVEYOUinc. In a way, the story feels like a conversation not just with Doctor Who's past and present, but also with it's future... It feels like the perfect antidote to Kerblam!.
3. The Day of the Doctor (and The Day of the Doctor)
Tumblr media
Listening to Steven Moffat talk about The Day of the Doctor is weird. Everything around the writing and production of the 50th anniversary special seems like hell. And yet, the end result is something that's not just extremely good Doctor Who, it feels like it knows it's good Doctor Who. It looks simple, seems self-assured, appears to know exactly what it's doing. It's a minor miracle. And it's also amazing. Gallifrey falls no more. All thirteen and all that.
Note: This spot is shared between the episode AND the novelisation. I love both of them very much. Go read the novelisation if you haven't read it yet. It's really, really fun.
2. Vincent and the Doctor
Tumblr media
Nearly everyone loves this episode and, well, I can't really argue with that. It really is special. I adore it, the greatest celebrity historical the show ever did.
1. The Doctor's Wife
Tumblr media
My favourite New Who episode.
So, I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman. That is probably not a shocking take on this website. My collection of his work currently includes 12 books (1 in Czech translation, the rest in English), 6 comic books (1 in Czech translation, the rest in English), and 1 script book. I love Neil Gaiman.
I love the idea of the Corsair. I actually roleplayed as an incarnation of the Corsair in a game of Cubicle 7's Doctor Who TTRPG at a Red Dwarf convention recently. In front of an audience of like four people.
Hell, I even made a fanart of the Nephew like 6 or 7 year ago. I love the poor Ood and I love the horror aspect of the episode, with TARDIS becoming an abject and unfamiliar place when she gets possessed by the House.
But the reason I love this episode the most out of not just the eleventh Doctor's era but all of the 2005 series is... Well, it's the relationship. The Doctor and his TARDIS. Or, the Thief and his Sexy. It recontextualizes the whole mythology, it recontextualizes the entire series in a way that's so moving and poetic and just... perfect. I love The Doctor's Wife.
