I really dislike it when someone asks me for a fic update or asks me when I plan to update a fic. Like, there is a reason why I’ve started including the ‘please don’t ask about fic updates’ paragraph in all my most recent series.
Part of it is practical. I really do mean it when I say I’m busy. I work a full time job and I’m going to grad school. I write fic in the time I have between keeping myself a functional person.
But also, some of it is just how my brain works. When people leave comments asking me to please update the fic or insisting that it’s been ages since I updated a specific fic, I know it’s just because they’re so interested in my story and want to know what happens next, but I feel so bad about not updating that I start avoiding updating because of the people telling me it’s been so long. Like, asking about updates genuinely wrecks any motivation I have to update and does the exact opposite of encouraging me.
Which is why I started asking people to not ask me about them in my authors notes!!! Like! It wasn’t just a random bit I started doing!!!
But despite my request to hey please respect this boundary I’ve stated, I still get people who ask about fic updates! And some of them even like, reference my note about not asking, so I know they’re reading it, I guess they just like, assume it’s all well and good to ignore my request if they try to be nice about it and because it’s them. I don’t know.
I don’t even know why I created this post other than to scream into the void a bit about this tho g that keeps happening no matter how often I try to head it off at the pass, lol.
Anyways, fic writers are people too, please respect our stated boundaries even if they might seem silly or inconsequential to you, thank you.

You know what I'm gonna say it. Every Trick In The Book is one of their best albums because Spencer sings at least three songs on it from the perspective of a woman and does not mince words about it. Alice, The People In The Attic, and Tess-Timony (possibly also Star-Crossed Enemies but that could be from either Juliet or Romeo's perspective, I don't count Hell In The Hallways because he sings about Carrie in the third person) are all sung from the perspective of the female lead if each novel it's based on and Spencer commits with his full chest. "Here's a note to myself, back to the wall, the higher you get girl, the farther you fall" HOW MANY MALE FRONTMEN WOULD CALL THEMSELVES GIRL WITH NO TREPIDATION LIKE THAT
And like yeah, a song like Tess-Timony would probably be more impactful sung by a woman (I don't remember where but I remember Spencer once mentioned they tried to get a female vocalist to feature on the song but it fell through) but that doesn't stop that man from singing "So officer please that's the man who destroyed my existence, yeah he begged and he screamed just like I did" in the most heart wrenching way!!!!!! He really feels and connects to those words!!!!!

Alice being basically a godly entity with the ability to jump into other people's dreams and summons a dark form wasn't on my bingo card, and at this point I'm just burning the damn thing.
Like I get that otherlands introduced this concept some time ago and like?? Okay? But why??
Can't you have a regular girl who gets fucked over and has to figure out how to deal with it the old fashion way? With the restrains of regular life? Especially for her time period??? Isn't that more interesting the shoeing in some supernatural bullshit so you can make her look like a hero when she is really just trying to uh...SURVIVE??
I just don't get why this series needs to travel off into batshit crazy territory when the original concept of having to not only survive your own fucked up dreams, but also live in fucked up reality is miles more horrifiying.
And I get it, y'all wanna pass the moral that bad people doing bad things need to be punished. But newsflash, for that time period, it is inevitable that bad shit happens. And spinning your main character that had very real, very painful events happen to her into an actual GOD that can magically do what they want on whim to achieve their goals, is so damn stupid.
Obviously your ""creative"" ideas don't fit what the series has already set up, so don't try to shove it in there. Just let it die and do it with a different property, or try something else.

Y’all, today has already been A Day and the more I think about it the angrier and more frustrated I get. I am having g to file a DMCA takedown for my fucking fanfiction today. The thing I do for fun in my free time, got stolen and put on YouTube for profit. I wasn’t asked for permission (which I super would not have given but the point still stands), and I’m obviously not the first person this has happened to. But I think the most ‘slap in your face’ thing about it all is that they’re claiming fair use, and uhhh, that’s not at all how that law works and it pisses me off so much that my hard work and effort is being so blatantly stolen with the most lackluster attempt to hide behind fair use and I just, I hope the thief steps on a fucking lego.

I have no fun little ideas for the Magnus protocol because my brain is far too busy being turned to mush by my fair public school; all I got is drawings, notes, and iconic Alice quotes.
I was convinced for a bit that it was on VHS but the script denies that, but it's still super interesting cause no one knows who's listening besides Colin which is nice. My notes on this are on a notes app whereas my Magnus archives one are painstakingly wrote in a tiny notebook, as is the way of the world.

I kept making Sam look like a lesbian- he's just a little trans man so I know the struggle. Alice soon.

Small ramble abou my wip Songs of Stars and Dreams, but bear with me
Ever since I was a teenager, Alice (the protagonist) would start off the story as a high school senior. Because I was a silly teenager who couldn't really pocture anything else beyond the age of 17.
And as I grew older, the story grew with me, and so did Alice. Yet, I kept her as a high school senior at the start because... I don't know, comfort zone, I guess.
But this year, I became determined to finally do something with this story that goes beyond just staring up the ceiling and daydreaming about the story. I've been working with the script and designs and the style I want it to be and all that.
And then, just these days, I decided to take the leap and make Alice college age instead of a high schooler. It fits better with the themes of the story, what became of her arc, and it just makes me more comfortable exploring her relationships as well.
The issue is updating her design
No, see! Alice is brazilian, and brazilian schools have uniforms! So for years, I didn't have to think much about the outfit she would use at the start of the story.... But now I do!
So now I'm trying to come up with a modern outfit that an autistic brazilian college student would use that feels Alice and is also not super generic.
Number 1 and 2 are the most realistic ones, but 1 is too generic and 2 doesn't feel right. 3 and 4 fit her personality, but don't feel realistic. I need to come up with a good middle ground and I want to cry.
