After The Tower Falls
Here is the secret: eventually, the ache stops, the devastation quickens and then slows, the anger arrives righteous and in want of a reckoning,
and then, it turns back to shadow, suddenly, as if had not been burning a moment before, and in that empty space, there is quiet, and in that quiet, there is relief, like cool water from a soft stream, your heart
is no longer howling, and the pieces of the past all around you
no longer feel like destruction, but a fresh start, flowers growing out of the cracks, a bright song of possibility,
and you know you survived it, the worst thing, the impossible thing, the heartbreak
didn’t break you after all— breathe.

REVIEW: THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION Sept./Oct. 2021
Figure 1 – F&SF Sept-Oct 2021 cover by David A. Hardy Well, heck. Summer seems to be over; pumpkins are ripening; people are buying enormous amounts of candy; and the Sept./Oct. issue of F&SF is out (it’s nearly time for the next one!). Figure 1 shows the cover—by David A. Hardy, a beautiful astronomical of Jupiter seen from Io. He’s one of the better long-term F&SF cover artists, along with…

"The past is full of monsters
I loved, and I keep trying
to tell the wrong story,
the one that’s easier
to look at, to live with,
where I don’t swallow all the poison,
where I don’t lose myself in the woods,
where I don’t will my body
into a tree
just to have roots."

Quote
There were years I buried it, others where I banished it, tried to drown it, resented it for its wideness, its wildness, the stubborn way it refused to shatter, but thrived to bend.

The Devil You Know by Ali Trotta
Once, you handed me half a heart,
a pretty keepsake, as if love
could be contained in glass,
displayed as truth,
a weapon, a warning,
a silver bullet against
every demon
you fashioned in the dark—
but you cornered the wrong monster.
You offered honey
but arrived with too much grief,
a gift of quicksand kisses,
a ruin of howling
keening
between every word,
the ghost of love
conjured as fruit, ripe
as belladonna,
too much and the sleep
is endless—
but a witch always knows.
You think this story is yours,
but it isn’t; you haven’t escaped
the labyrinth, this stone river
knows what you have done,
what you stole, what you broke,
what you burned to ash—
there is no mercy here,
only haunting,
a cadre of shame
brandishing knives—
and you abandoned
the wrong Fate.
Now, you wake
godless, soul-hollow,
your chest vacant
and clockless,
ribs perfectly arranged
around the emptiness,
this cathedral of lies,
this once-holy space,
ringing with a dark hymn
only the damned will ever hear—
look down,
you are standing in your own grave.

#ReadShortStories that are mostly poems (206 to 210)
Tumblr media
A transitional batch here. And a poetry heavy one. I finished off Uncanny Issue 22 (at last) and started reading Meet Me at the Intersection, an Australian anthology edited by Rebecca Lim and Ambelin Kwaymullina and featuring stories about a variety of minority identities.
Lorelei by Ali Trotta — A lovely poem about love and other things. Source: https://uncannymagazine.com/article/lorelei/ What Grew by Sarah Gailey — I really liked this poem. It’s part body horror surrounding regular pregnancy and part fantastical. Source: https://uncannymagazine.com/article/what-grew/ Okuri Inu, or the sending-off dog demon by Betsy Aoki — I am not sure exactly what this poem is about. My first thought was depression, but perhaps not. Source: https://uncannymagazine.com/article/okuri-inu-or-the-sending-off-dog-demon/
Night Feet by Ellen van Neerven — A story about a teenaged girl playing soccer. And a bit how poverty and family circumstances are hurdles to that end. I expect the story would be more exciting for people who are into soccer, which I am not. Source: Meet Me at the Intersection edited by Rebecca Lim and Ambelin Kwaymullina Dream by Graham Akhurst — A poem with formatting that didn’t work on my phone screen and was much more powerful when I was able to read it on the iPad. It’s also the kind of poem that becomes clearer with subsequent readings. Source: Meet Me at the Intersection edited by Rebecca Lim and Ambelin Kwaymullina Content imported from Blogger http://bit.ly/2QN9t14. To a Drowning Man
Here is the weight of a heart:
dreams gone ragged at the edges,
faded and frayed, the ghost of hope
rather than her full splendour,
            and yet,
it’s enough, isn’t it? She sings
still, not siren but lullaby,
a reminder of strength
in darker times,
            a hand offered
without expectation, just steady
and steady on—
            the constant promise
of softness, breath
to a drowning man
who has ignored his own drowning—
sometimes, love is this
potential:
            glimmer unexpected,
            gentleness unasked for,
a silhouette standing in shadow,
            imperfect heart
shining, a torch song
                        burning
against the dark.

Character/Movie List
Below is movies and TV shows I like personally and are lsited as a reference. If you don't see something you're interested in, it is not that I don't like it, it is because I most likely forgot it because I love so many movies/shows tbh. Just ask, and I'll answer! And, from the Rules and Regulations page, what I had meant by "mostly" is that I can dabble outside of the acting world and into actors/actresses themselves and/or singers, popstars, etc.
{Another side-note, I am not so much into shows, but mostly movies! Although, there are some exceptions that I love beyond belief!}

Finalmente.
Finalmente.
