Ajuga reptans - Bugleweed
I've had this plant in the difficult garden* for a few years but this year it seems to be doing really well. It had been spreading vigourously but didn't look as healthy as it does right now. I did wonder whether it might be spreading too much and I'd need to pull it out, but it seems to be reaching a balance.
*no drainage in winter, dry in summer, between a hedge and a concrete path
Ajuga reptans - Bugleweed - European native - check status in other areas because its spreading nature and general survivability make it a good candidate for becoming a pest.

What's blooming in the garden today? Well maybe it's time for another walk down the garden path. As regular visitors know, the house is up for sale and by next summer I expect to have a planter box on a balcony, and maybe a couple of houseplants for company. This is day three of my garden tour. I hope you're enjoying it. I know I am.
And I'm not done yet...
In order of appearance:
Rhododendron hybrida
Ajuga reptans (bugleweed)
 Symphytum x uplandicum (Russian comfrey)
Tellima grandiflora (fringecups)
Hyacinthoides non-scripta (common bluebell)
Rosa rugosa (rugosa rose)
Convallaria majalis (lily-of-the-valley)

It's no secret we're not huge lawn fans at Epic Gardening - I don't have one in my yard, @Jacques in the Garden doesn't in his, and Chris DOES have a lawn...that she created herself and that includes NO turf grass, while providing all of the traditional benefits of a lawn space. In this video she'll go over 3 different alternatives for those of you in colder climates.
00:00 - Intro
01:08 - Benefits Of Covering The Ground
01:53 - 1. Cover Crop
03:43 - 2. Low-growing Perennials
07:13 - 3. Turfgrass Lawn Alternative
10:35 - Outro

I'm starting another Baldur's Gate 3 run. I fucked up too many things in the last one. I couldn't even look at my poor dumb Bard any longer. RIP Jonathis Canterlink, I'll miss your hilarious battle-taunts.
Ok, Fresh slate, here we go. Githyanki Cleric, Nature Domain, Deity is Mielikki, Outlander background (escaped her Creche as a youngling and ended up befriending a half-crazy exiled druid out in the wilds who taught her some survival skills before he wandered off into a snowstorm one night, never to return).
Ajuga Reptans, we are gonna do great!
I hope.

I went on a walk recently in my local area which I am trying to do more often in order to connect with the land and learn the species that share this space with me. I saw this startlingly indigo-coloured Bugle (Ajuga reptans). Called Glesyn-Y-Coed in Welsh, it has been notably used in treating wounds and reducing inflammation (possibly through preventing infection). Therefore any modern Welsh practitioner may want to use this plant in connection with healing and protective intentions.
I have noted in my research to be found in a few Welsh medical remedies throughout the medieval period and even further back. (Notably in sections 5/1 , 9/58 and 10/24 of the Medieval Welsh Medical Texts by Diana Luft https://www.uwp.co.uk/app/uploads/MWMT_final_low-res-1.pdf)

Common Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus), Common Bugle (Ajuga reptans), comfrey/knitbone (Symphytum officinale), and something I'm pretty sure is some kind of Astraceae flower? Some kind of Centaurea I'd say, though the flower feels too full for greater knapweed (Centarea scabiosa), which I'd expect it to be. so just. I'll leave this one un-ID'd.
(I'm deciding these IDs with the help of kvetenacr.cz. there might be some slight inaccuracies, as I haven't done this in a while.)
