Fic recs - Kanthony WIPs that may never be finished but you should read them anyway

I’ve been cleaning out my AO3 subscriptions and had to share.

1. Anthony Bridgerton: Zombie Hunter by ZeroRegrets  https://archiveofourown.org/works/41421219

I maintained my purity when it came to the original run of zombie AUs for 19th century novels because frankly I didn’t give a damn, but this WIP is SO. DAMN. GOOD.

You may know ZeroRegrets from All Regrets Are Denied, but this seems as different as night and day with that fic, even though it has the same dense and rich writing style. The world building is phenomenal and lays out our characters in their milieu so well. Here, all the original beats of Anthony and Kate’s original meeting are layered and perfect. It’s at 7 out of 100 chapters, so you might have to just hit the subscribe button and hope.

A Two Weeks Notice AU – which by the way, I love Two Weeks Notice so this was an insta-subscribe for me – but also this has layers of complexity in how the characters relate to each other, almost claustrophobic in this little world that Anthony and Kate create for themselves. Which as I’m saying it, is true for Anthony and Kate. They are so much a self-contained unit, but the whole plot of Two Weeks Notice is how two people can merge themselves without losing themselves, and still have so much emotional ground to traverse with each other. Love this!

Note this does include some (implied so far) Anthony/Siena but it’s clearly HEA-focused.

3. Indecent Proposal by coveredinbees  https://archiveofourown.org/works/35278828

Such a novel take on these characters. Anthony lives with chronic pain after he is wounded in a duel (not with Simon) and Kate is a former Crimea battlefield nurse who is trying to make her way in London. A chance meeting brings them together. It’s so damn good that I hope there’s more but even if not, it’s a fascinating, wonderful universe.

I’ll just let this para speak for the fic itself. It’s full of lines like this that reach into your heart and squeeze. And the pacing, the details of a Kate who is holding herself together for Edwina is amazing.

“Kate really must take notes— he taught her a most excellent master class in duplicity, free of charge. He left her standing there like a fool, eyes carefully trained on a giggling Edwina as a glove was shoved into her cold hands. He humiliated her, defeated her on the battleground for Edwina’s affections, yes, but what is even more egregious is how he slithered his way into Kate’s own affections, breaking her own—"

I’ve never read the book this is based on but am obsessed with this AU. Anthony is the old kind of Elf, the kind Terry Pratchett writes about: cruel, arrogant and capricious. He also loves his family dearly and must team up with a very human Kate – whom he despises and desires – to save them when tragedy strikes. With bonus competent Colin and a very likeable Dorset.
