“Woah woah woah!” Eden had a death grip around Seokmin’s neck, feeling him wobble as the elevator went up several floors from the lobby. He had offered to give her a ride on his back after walking in the wet weather in heels.

“You’re okay. I’ve got you.” He reassured her, making sure his arms locked around her knees were tight. She folded her hands in the front, attacking his neck with kisses as he giggled.

The elevator door pushed open, revealing a middle aged man. Their smiles quickly faded, both feeling embarrassed like they got caught doing something they weren’t supposed to be doing. The man looked surprised, stepping aside to let them out. Seokmin walked past him, carrying her through the halls as Eden watched the doors.

When the elevator doors finally shut again and there was no one to be seen, she let out a snort while his knees got weak from laughing.

“He definitely thinks we’re crazy.” She joked. When they finally got to his hotel room, he stopped in place as Eden pulled his keycard out of her pocket and swiped it.

He ventured further into the room, backing up against the bed where he dropped her off from his back. He turned around, holding her face in his palms and smiling. “Alone at last.”

She held onto his wrist, reaching up to kiss his lips. She had missed his touch for months now, hard to fathom how her manager possibly let her pull this off.

“You guys did great tonight.” She swayed her body back and forth, waving his wrists in the air as she chuckled. He intertwined their fingers together, flashing her that familiar smile that always made her feel like she was home.

He nodded, pulling her into his chest and

hugging her tight. He cradled the back of her head while kissing her temple. “Thank you for coming. You didn’t have to come all this way.”

“I wanted to. I missed you and wanted to surprise you.” Eden rubbed the small of his back. “It’s okay. We have a few more days off before we have to rehearse and everything.”

“The girls aren’t mad, are they?” He frowned, distancing their faces and looking her in the eyes.

“Of course not. You know they love you. Don’t worry.” She shook her head, bringing her hands up to push away his stray hairs. “You can have a little more time with me now.”

He pecked her forehead, letting out a sigh of relief. “I can’t wait til we’re not busy anymore. When we can go out on dates regularly, fall asleep together, hold each other like this.”

“I know. We just have to be a bit more patient.” She nodded, smiling at him with all the love in her eyes. “I’m so happy these days because of you. No amount of distance can change that.”

He squealed out of excitement, picking her up and sitting on the bed while placing her on his lap. His hands rested around her waist, pressing his head to her chest and humming.

“Minee?”

“Hmm?” He pulled away, looking up towards her with a hopeful grin.

“Your English is so cute.” She snickered, rubbing circles on his cheeks with her hand.

“Is it? I’ve tried practicing and all that.”

“So cute.” She kissed his nose, tempted to give him a bunch of raspberries. “You’re getting better everyday.”

He quickly gave her another peck on the lips. The two went back and forth, giving each other many kisses on different places of their faces. They weren’t going to leave any surface untouched.

“You haven’t eaten yet, right?” She brushed her fingers through the hair at the base of his neck. “I can order something while you take a shower.”

He pouted, snuggling in closer to her. “You don’t wanna join me?”

Eden patted the top of his head, shaking her head. “Not tonight. I’ll make sure the food is ready when you get out.” She got off his lap and onto her feet, pulling her phone out of her pocket.

Seokmin stood up, dragging his feet to the bathroom and pleading with his eyes as he stood in the doorway. She shooed him with her hand, resuming her search for a restaurant that was open at this late hour.

When the food arrived, she didn’t want to just leave it like it was. She tried to arrange everything nicely for him. Now she waited for him

to get out of the shower. She paced back and forth in the room before stopping in front of the window. She pulled the curtains to the side to reveal the dim city lights.

It was misty from all the rain and she couldn’t see well given how bright their hotel room was. She felt her cheeks getting warmer. Everything was starting to fall back into place. She felt proud of herself, proud of her group, proud of her boyfriend and his group. She was full of so much love now.

She felt herself shiver from the sudden air hitting her. She wrapped her arms around herself, rubbing up and down on her skin to warm herself up.

She didn’t hear him get out of the shower until the door opened. Eden quickly turned around to see him shirtless, his hair falling flat against his face and his shorts fitting comfortably around his waist.

“It smells good.” He smelled the aroma of their dinner. She couldn’t help but giggle, looking back out the window and taking the scent in.

Seokmin made his way behind her, trying to make himself level with her view to see what she was looking at. He took this as the opportunity to hug her from behind. She exhaled, leaning back against his chest and gripping onto his wrists.

“I never thought we’d be in the states together like this.” He nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck, rocking them back and forth before kissing her cheek.

“Is it better than Jeju? or Busan?” She looked at their reflection in the glass, rubbing her thumb over his knuckles.

“It doesn’t matter where we are. As long as I’m with you.” He smirked, shaking his head before bending his knees and picking her up by the waist. “I’m starving.”

Eden would never get used to him picking her up so effortlessly like this. She worried about putting too much strain on his muscles that he needed for his work. He set her down by the bed, taking the chair and grinning at their setup.

“Thank you,” Seokmin quickly reached over the tray to kiss her. “Love you. Let’s eat.”

Love On The Weekend is Lovemonth's second mini album and was released on December 26th, 2022. This mini album had two title tracks: "불토 (Fire Saturday)" and "어디야? (Where are you?)", both being promoted for two weeks each.

~STYLE~

Hair:

Yumin kept her bob from the previous comeback, but went dark for the first time. The outer layer of her hair was a dark brown, but the inner layer was still her trademark blond color. She decided to give her scalp a break for once, but she didn’t want to be completely unrecognizable.

Yeojeong continued with her dark hair. This time around, however, she went jet black. Although she was sad she had let some fans down, she tried to make it up by wearing funky-colored extensions for the stages.

Byeol dyed her long hair red to match her representative heart and kept the no bangs look. They also especially liked her look during the Fire Saturday promotions because the fire red hair made the loud seventies styling even campier.

Hotaru dyed her hair a honey blond that faded to a dirty blond throughout the era. ælifes were a little disappointed because they were expecting her to have Byeol’s hair transformation, but eventually grew to like this more elegant, mature version of Hotaru especially during the "어디야? (Where are you?)" promotions.

Chowon 86’d the bangs and dyed her hair ombre jet black-to-blond. Unlike the last comeback, she wore her hair almost exclusively straight. She also almost exclusively wore something on her head during the Fire Saturday promotions whether it was a hat, a bandanna, or a headband. Rumors started spreading that Lovemonth was working with a new stylist and an accident led to her getting a bald patch at the top of her head, but it was quickly dispelled during "Where Are You?" promotions when she wore nothing on her head

Since Saetbyul was the newest member, she didn’t get a huge makeover. Her hair was kept dark, but dyed a chocolate brown rather than being her usual jet black. As the "불토 (Fire Saturday)" promotions progressed, however, her hairstyles got more adventurous going from simple straight with a headband to Farrah-esque waves and tinsel extensions.

Stage Outfits:

불토 (Fire Saturday)

As the first title track that they would perform, the stylist wanted the girls to really catch people's attention. The loud 70s aesthetic was eventually decided upon. Color-blocked tops; loud, flair-legged pants; boot-cut denim jeans; ostrich feather tops; white go-go boots; and lots of headbands and bandannas. It's hard to tell, but it seemed that the goodbye stage outfits were the most well-received. The white collared tops paired with the embroidered royal blue pants was giving the 70s aesthetic with a modern twist.

어디야? (Where are you?)

The second title track was much more toned down, so the stylist went with a much simpler look: a high-low dress with ruffled sleeves and a bow. The girls were this outfit in a variety of pastel colors: baby blue and white, white and pale pink, pink and white, lavender and white, mint and white, etc. Interestingly enough, they never wore the pink and red outfits from the music video...

目がくらむ (Dazzling Lights)

Hotaru, as the only Loveomonth girlie that the fandom wasn't looking at sideways, got her own stage for her solo track as well as a performance MV! She personally decided on the city pop aesthetic for both of her outfits, choosing dresses with both elegant and cute features just like her. And of course she had to pair them with city pop's trademark accessories: lace gloves, a fascinator, and the plainest pair of shoes she could find.

~ERA HIGHLIGHTS~

Lovemonth flop era pt. 2 Electric Boogaloo

A mess from start to finish.......let's start with the music videos!

The "불토 (Fire Saturday)" music video was actually kinda fun. A huge party with Lovemonth welcoming in their temporary member, Saetbyul. She was definitely the focus of the video, having almost the same amount of screen time and center time as Yeojeong. Was there a huge, overarching narrative to the video? No. Did it need one? Not really. It was just a cute, campy, feel good music video that almost gave ælifes the feels. Unfortunately, the last couple of minutes made things weird: all the girls left "the club" arm-in-arm as Yumin followed closely behind, but turned back to the open doors of the club with a troubled look as if she'd forgotten something, alluding to the theme of the second music video...

The "어디야? (Where are you?)" music video was bad. It managed to be high experiment, arthaus shlock and pathetically transparent at the same time, but it was clearly meant to serve as an open apology of sorts to Rudy. There were several allusions to her absence: the girls sitting in six chairs with one empty one next to them, a scene with six full glasses of water and one empty glass, even the final shot with the girls posing 3:3 with a gaping hole in the middle of their formation. Pandering at its finest.

Although some ælifes gave the company credit for at least showing that Rudy is an integral part of the group and her absence is clear, most were not fooled and continued to follow through with the boycott.

Allegedly, Rudy tweeted "not that cringey ass mv lol" and then deleted it at some point 🥴

Needless to say, both music videos were incredibly slow to garner views due to the boycott. "불토 (Fire Saturday)" did manage to rack up about 1 million views after a month and a few weeks, but "어디야? (Where are you?)" barely made half that.

The sales for Love On The Weekend were similarly awful with freshly-debuted nugu groups outselling them. They didn't even chart.

Many of Lovemonth's gigs were cancelled because it was clear they were not welcome anywhere; shows that announced they would be appearing found their broadcasting companies flooded with emails urging them to cancel.

Even performing at Aes!OCNet Awards, what should've been the highlight of their year, became a disaster and a controversy.

The worst part was Saetbyul, who had absolutely no idea what she was getting herself into and was innocent in all the controversy, breaking down at a festival performance after someone threw a bottle on stage and cursed at them.

Yeah......this era sucked.

~SCANDALS & CONTROVERSIES~

#BoycottYURINCO: This hashtag spread like wildfire after Rudy’s livestream. Many ælifes vowed to boycott the comeback and any future comebacks until a public apology was made to Rudy. Because of this, the mini album pre-sales were abysmal and neither title track charted. Even when they performed live stages the crowds were quiet and didn’t do their fanchants. The “불어” era, as it’s been unofficially named, was basically one large scandal from Rudy’s livestream controversy, to the very obvious messaging in the music videos, to the Aes!OCNet Awards debacle…speaking of which…

Aes!OCNet Awards performance debacle: Lovemonth was invited to the Aes!OCNet Awards for the second time, but things have changed quite a bit over the past year. As soon as this was announced, petitions to have their invitation rescinded started circulating as Rudy-biased ælifes were demanding justice for their fave. The petition was ultimately not taken seriously and ended up being forgotten. Eventually, the initial backlash of the invitation started to die down and soon enough it was time for the event. It’s not really certain who was responsible for it or it was pulled off, but when Lovemonth took the stage a large portion of the audience’s lightsticks went out. It was more of a black pond than a black ocean, but it was just as mortifying and brought the relatively nugu group into the public eye for all the wrong reasons.

She said what?!: A profanity-laden audio clip allegedly of Byeol surfaced where she was talking about people not supporting their comeback because of Rudy. The clip is of pretty shitty quality, but Byeol’s voice is pretty distinct. This caused a bit of commotion on K-pop Twitter for about 48 hours before dying down, but some ælifes still think there’s some truth to it and it’s caused the fandom to side-eye Byeol a little.

~ACTIVITIES~

Not a lot of activities this era because of all the controversy, but they did get to do a few things!

The girls appeared on the talk show Idol2Idol (a show where idols interview other idols they’re promoting with) alongside peekAboo. Hotaru talked about her background in waacking and voguing in Japan, revealing she co-choreographed "Naughty", one of the songs from her and Byeol's web series. She then did a little demonstration for the girls and did what needed to be done.

For this era’s Girls Generation cover, Lovemonth teamed up with 7LITE for a Music Bank Christmas episode performance of "Mr.Mr." OURLITEs lost their minds since 7LITE hadn’t had any activities for most of the year, and ælifes were definitely cheering as their favorite group continued this cute tradition, but still flooded videos’ of the performance on YouTube and elsewhere with comment section detailing what the group was going through and encouraging viewers not to support them.

They were invited to the annual Aes!OCNet Awards. Hotaru had the privilege of presenting the award for Best Summer Concept, then the group took to the Rising Star stage and performed a medley of their debut song "UP ALL NIGHT" and their newest title track "불토 (Fire Saturday)".

COSMOS (우주) are a fictional k-pop girl group managed under Okeanos Media, debuting on april twenty-fourth, twenty eighteen with their single “Love In Space” the single didn’t do as well as anticipated but they kept their concept for some time. Later they decided to switch things up for their comeback “Purple Void” a extended play. Tastemaker’s Next Group? Today, Tastemaker's male trainees made their "debut" of sorts: their powerful cover of “KARMA”, one of the male concept songs from the survival show X or Y?, was released on Tastemaker’s official YouTube channel under the name "TASTEMAKER_M". Youn Woocheol was notably present as this was his first official activity after having participated in the co-ed survival show where he unfortunately was eliminated in the third culling before the finale. Despite being derided for his lack of experience by judges as well as viewers, he managed to place 26th overall. Fans praised TASTEMAKER_M (as they presumably will be referred to as from now on) for their synchronization, charisma, and presence throughout the performance. Watch the video here.

HELL IN HEAVEN . a lore cheat sheet !

HELL. an “estate” belonging to mother. originally a place of love and beauty, it was cursed by delusion.

MOTHER. a creature. no one knows its origin, but it claims to be godsent. it birthed the whispering children from the shadows. it killed them and nurtured them after their deaths. it's the keeper of hell, but it didn't always have that title. MOTHER IS PORTRAYED IRIE

GHOST. ghost was the original keeper of hell before they died at mother's hand. they're neither good nor evil, instead they roam the estate as a protector against delusion. GHOST IS PORTRAYED BY PARIS.

THE WHISPERING CHILDREN. the whispering children are the mother's creations, likened to its son and daughter. created from the shadows of hell, they sit and watch and wait in the shadows.

THE PRIEST. the priest is not a priest. he is one of mother's delusions, a human-like creature of deceit, tricks and lies. the whispering children refer to him as the spider, as he often spies in the children by using spiders.

THE MESSIAH. yet another one of mother's delusions. mother claims one day the messiah will come and beauty and love in hell will be restored. believer believes passer by is the messiah.

DELUSION. delusion is neither a person nor a place, nor is it a thing. it simply exists within. delusion can be found in mother, as well as passer by, although passer by fails to realise.

Eden’s eyes scanned the beaming pub, only picking the boys out from Seokmin raising his arms and standing up. He skipped his way over to her, pulling her into a hug and pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

“Did you guys wait long?” She grabbed his hand, smiling up at him.

“Not at all. They went ahead and ordered drinks but they insisted on waiting for you.”

“Am I that fun to be around?” She smirked, pulling him along with her to the table where they were seated.

“The best.” Seokmin went in front of her to pull her chair out for her.

Seungkwan clapped his hands for her, quickly passing the extra shot to her. “She’s here!”

Hoshi cheered, hurriedly picking up the soju bottle and pouring it into her glass before more into both his and Seungkwan’s. He looked toward Seokmin, watching him shake his head no.

“I’m good. But please don’t get my girlfriend drunk tonight.”

“It was her idea in the first place.” The eldest pouted, raising his glass as the others did too. Eden quickly pushed the liquor down her throat, setting the glass on the counter and winking at her boyfriend.

“Why do you say that when you know my tolerance is better than yours?” She smiled, looking at Seokmin as Hoshi refilled her shot. It was her idea. The three just became ambassadors for a skincare brand and it only seemed fitting to take the boys out for celebratory drinks.

Seungkwan looked between the two while covering his mouth trying not to laugh.

It was an hour later that a couple of empty soju bottles were scattered across their table. Hoshi somehow convinced the BSS leader to take a couple shots for the special occasion. Eden just reached her limit, feeling her entire body getting warm and stopping all together. They looked amongst themselves as Hoshi ordered another bottle, knowing he was already drunk.

“I think you should stop.” Seokmin tried to take the bottle away from him, only for Hoshi to pull it back and hug it in his arms.

“I want another drink.” He pouted, popping the cap off with his spoon. “You’ll take more with me, right?” He looked towards Eden, her eyes widening before taking her water and pouring it into her shot glass underneath the table.

“Of course!” She tried not to seem suspicious, holding her shot up and clinking it with Hoshi’s. She drank hers like it was alcohol, making sure to get her facial expressions on point. Seokmin scratched the back of his neck while sighing. It was gonna be impossible to stop him now unless it was Eden to draw the line.

“Let’s toast to booseoksoon as new brand ambassadors!” Hoshi stood up, stumbling a bit while slurring his words. Seungkwan had switched to water a while go, nonetheless grabbing his drink and standing too. It was hard for Eden to hide her technique this time, so she acted as if she took a shot but didn’t let the alcohol slip past her lips.

“Clear skin!” She added, giggling before hearing the man choke out a sob. She widened her eyes, flattening her lips thinking she got caught. Seokmin and Seungkwan dropped their heads, pinching their nose bridge as Hoshi began crying.

“I’m sorry-” She tried apologizing before he interrupted her.

“Eunhye always has clear skin! She doesn’t even need to try!” He cried into his hands while she was in shock. “Hyung has the prettiest girlfriend.”

She snorted, holding her mouth shut as she looked toward Seokmin. He rubbed his eyes, shaking his head while pouting.

“Why are you calling me hyung? You’re older than me.”

Eden reached for the napkins in the middle of the table, handing them to Hoshi while patting his shoulder. “Maybe you need to stop drinking.”

He stared at her for a second before bursting into tears again. He didn’t swat her away like he did to his member. He nodded, blowing air past his lips as he dropped his head. “She’s so nice too.”

He put his hand on her shoulder, showing his sincerity with his eyes. “Thank you for loving our Dokyeomie so well. He had no one other than us before meeting you. And he had zero friends that were girls.”

“Alright, that’s enough.” Seokmin stood up, reaching for him over the table before Eden grabbed his wrist, shaking her head and telling him to sit down. She could only imagine how embarrassing it was for Hoshi to expose them like that, but she was enjoying it.

“Really? Tell me more.” She smirked, resting her chin on her hand while the other held her boyfriend's hand underneath the table.

“I hope you know that we consider you part of the family now. How could we not?”

“Of course, I know.”

“You’re perfect for each other!” He dropped his forehead to the table, crying some more. “I am always worried he’s gonna pop from how much love he has. But at least he has someone to share it with now.”

“Yes, he has lots of love.”

“You have to tell us if he makes you sad. We will put him in his place. You can’t break up either, you guys are endgame.”

Eden nearly choked hearing him say the last bit, Seokmin quickly patting her back as he looked away to hide his face. She grabbed another napkin to wipe Hoshi’s tears.

“Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.”

He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand, sniffing a bit. “Does this mean we can sing ‘Just do it’ at your wedding?”

“I think it’s time for him to go home.” Seungkwan gathered the empty bottles, setting them towards the end of the table.

She turned her head to the side, snorting as the two other men were finding it physically paining to endure his drunk shenanigans any longer.

“You can sing at our wedding, maybe not ‘Just do it’ though.” He had a smile on his face before pouting again.

“No? But it’s tradition.”

“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.” She reassured him, pointing to Seungkwan and telling him to call a taxi.

She followed close behind the men as they helped Hoshi walk to the taxi. By the way they were groaning, she could tell it was like they were carrying dead weight.

“Do you guys need my help? Can I do anything?” She rushed next to them, tapping Seungkwan’s shoulder.

“Just get the door.” Seungkwan pointed towards the taxi, the girl quickly rushing to pull it open. She stepped aside while they helped the drunk man into the taxi.

He hit his head on the top of the car, holding his forehead as everyone gasped at him. “Ow.” The tears started to fall again.

“Don’t cry. They’ll get you some ice when you get home. I’ll make sure.” She’s never dealt with an emotional drunk before. She didn’t know whether to sympathize with him or laugh.

As soon as they made sure Hoshi was buckled in and secure, Seungkwan went around to get in on the other side of the car. He helped roll down his window and gave the couple a thumbs up.

“Thank you for the drinks, Noona! You two get home safe.” Seungkwan waved, grabbing Hoshi’s hand and waving for him.

“Text us when you get in!” Eden waved, finding her spot next to her boyfriend as the taxi started to pull away.

Hoshi stretched his head out the window, shouting at the top of his drunken lungs. “Lee Eunhye is the best girlfriend for our Dokyeom!”

She laughed out loud, her cheeks turning red while Seokmin hid in embarrassment. She gently punched his arm, getting his attention. “Shall we walk?”

She crossed her arms, slowly walking in the direction of his dorms which wasn’t too far away from the bar they had just left. He followed beside her, dragging his feet and trying to erase the disaster that happened from his mind.

He was paranoid that Hoshi made her nervous, asking her about such sensitive topics in their relationship. When he got over the initial shock of it all, he looked down towards her and cleared his throat.

“So, you’re gonna marry me?”

They always mentioned marrying each other during their pillow talks. They had a lot more they wanted to achieve in life, but one thing they agreed on is that they both wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.

She smirked, grabbing his hand and squeezing it tightly. “Of course I’m gonna marry you.”

He giggled, leaning towards her as he took her hand he was holding and fit it snuggly into his coat pocket and keeping it warm. “Just making sure.”

“But god please, don’t sing ‘Just do it’ at our wedding. Anything but ‘Just do it’.”

ESCAPE ROOM is Lovemonth's second single album and was released on June 30th, 2022. The title track was "ESCAPE ROOM" with "왔다갔다 (Come 'n' Go)" as a promoted B-side. This is Lovemonth’s first comeback where the group is not promoting with their full lineup as Rudy is on hiatus.

Hair:

Yumin continued to rock her usual straight, platinum blonde hair, but chose to get it cut short and get bangs. Her haircut along with the stage outfits for this comeback, a lot of comparisons were made to Rosamund Pike and the “i’m bored lemme ruin some random guy’s life real quick” vibe she often gives in her movies.

Yeojeong stuck to her long, brown look…but she got bangs this time! Fans asked if she would ever go with a new, bold look for a comeback on Vlive and she was like “I mean…if a role allowed me to? idk” which launched a bunch of “secure the bag” memes.

Byeol decided to come back with a bolder look: long, center-parted, jet black hair that was dyed ombre to grey. Her biggest decision though? No bangs. ælifes were shook; Byeol had had bangs ever since her trainee days to the point where there were countless jokes and tons of theories in the fandom as to what was actually under them. Some ælifes missed the bangs, but most not only saw the lack of bangs as a chicer, more mature look for her, but it had a lot of ælifes questioning their sexuality…

Hotaru surprisingly gave her scalp a break and went with a more natural chestnut brown bob. ælifes were similarly gagged by her transformation, but there was a lot more pushback as many fans really missed her Manic Pixie Dream Girl™ looks. Hotaru apologized for her lack of colorful hair and promised fans that ✨Magical Girl Hotaru✨ would be back soon.

Chowon had long, curly, jet black hair with a comma bang. ælifes were a little confused since she seemed to steal Rudy’s previous hairstyle…?

For those keeping track, that makes 4/5 girls with bangs. Literally all the active members got bangs except for the one that’s known for them.

Stage Outfits:

ESCAPE ROOM

As the promotions for ESCAPE ROOM would be shorter, the designer decided to go with a simple, but effective silhouette that would be memorable to audiences. What encapsulates that more than a suit? The girls wore both classic suits and newer, oversized suits with cropped tops underneath in neutral and pseudo-neutral colors like black, white, navy, burgundy, and slate grey. The girls usually wore sneakers with the oversized suits and heeled boots with the more classic suits.

왔다갔다 (Come 'n' Go)

The costuming for their B-side was a bit of a hot topic. Not for the stage version; those outfits were relatively tame. Simple white lace tops with white pants, black shoes, and an oversized black jacket for the male backup dancers to drape over them at the end of the routine. The controversy came with the dance practice video costumes: Lovemonth wasn't really known for a sexy side, but they definitely showed it in the dance practice with their collared shirts and intimate dancing with the male backup dancers.

~ERA HIGHLIGHTS~

Whew chile this gon’ be a doozy........Lovemonth in their flop era! 😃

The whole #WhereIsRudy debacle really took whatever anticipation there was for Lovemonth’s comeback and completely deflated it.

The music video, which was more of a performance video with better camerawork, took a whole week to hit 1 million views.

Usually there were campaigns to get the Lovemonth music videos views, but the ælife community was in shambles. Half the community was on strike due to the mistreatment of Rudy that resulted in her seemingly leaving the group.

There were still ælifes that tried to remind everyone that regardless of Rudy’s status and treatment, there were still five other girls in the group working hard to deliver a comeback, but it sort of fell on deaf ears.

The charts weren’t any kinder: ESCAPE ROOM was their lowest-charting release, ranking lower than their debut. The Rudy scandal really took all of their momentum.

The worst part was that you could see it on the members’ faces. Any time they were on a variety show, when they were backstage at music shows, even on their social media. You could see how much this was affecting them.

Despite all the doom and gloom, the silver lining came towards the end of their comeback era: My Girlfriend’s a K-Pop Idol!

The web series had casted Byeol and Hotaru as a duo and gave them two of the most slayful songs to ever exist.

Both tracks were for the gays and the gays went UP accordingly.

The web series became very popular and First Memory (the duo from the series’ name) actually trended on NAVER. It boosted the popularity of Byeol and Hotaru, and of course Lovemonth by extension. Not enough to hint at a possible chart reversal, but enough to keep the threat of disbandment at bay.

Byeol and Hotaru started appearing on radio shows and variety shows as if they were an actual duo, which perturbed a few ælifes, but most saw it as a blessing in this dark time for the group.

The popularity of the duo gave the company some ideas…but anyway, at least the ESCAPE ROOM era ended on a high note!

~SCANDALS & CONTROVERSIES~

#WhereIsRudy pt. 1: During the months of Lovemonth’s hiatus, all but one of the members seemed to be keeping busy. Yeojeong was doing well as a model/actress, Chowon had been hosting After School Club consistently since their last comeback, and the other members had other activities that they were working on. Except Rudy. Her absence was constantly being brought up by ælifes to which members usually answered that she was resting. Then suddenly they stopped addressing it altogether. Anytime someone would ask they just…wouldn’t answer. Rumors started going around that she had left the group since she was the only one who was not active at all. The most suspicious moment came during one of Byeol’s Twitch streams: someone asked her about Rudy’s absence and she replied, “Ah…Rudy-unnie has returned to Thailand…she thought about her family quite often during our MOON promotions and wanted to see them.” Her reply was strange as she was very hesitant; as if she 1) realized she probably shouldn’t have been relaying this information to hundreds of people, or 2) she wasn’t telling the truth. Even stranger, she abruptly ended the stream, citing an “emergency”, and the stream (at that point, around 2 hours and 37 minutes in length) would not be available for replay. All of this happened before ESCAPE ROOM was even announced.

#WhereIsRudy pt. 2: An anonymous Reddit user found the social media pages of Rudy’s friends and family and discovered she was none of their recent updates. As a result, Byeol got a bit of hate for allegedly being complicit in Rudy’s disappearance. All of the suspicion came to a head when all of Rudy’s social media went dark; ælifes panicked and started demanding YURI&Co. for answers.The #RudyDeservesBetter hashtag that was swirling around ælife Twitter during the tail-end of their last promotions morphed into the much more prevalent PR nightmare #WhereIsRudy hashtag. It was not just a hot topic across K-pop Twitter itself, trending in several different countries and becoming cannon fodder for every K-pop tea and news channel on YouTube. After being flamed across social media for several days, YURI&Co. finally had to release a statement. They apologized for the lack of communication on their part, explained that Rudy had been showing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and that she was spending her time resting in addition to seeing a licensed professional. Many ælifes were satisfied with this information and sent well wishes to Rudy, but some felt there was something the company wasn’t telling them…

Everybody loves…Yumin?!: On a lighter note, the members appeared on Jackie & Jill, a popular YouTube channel that is known for chaotic, unfiltered interviews with rookie groups and soloists. Jill, one of the hosts, is known for being an out lesbian and playfully flirting with female idols. Probably the biggest and most memorable activity (outside of Yeojeong’s neverending list of acting credits) was Byeol and Hotaru landing supporting roles in the web series My Girlfriend’s a K-Pop Idol!, a show about a Canadian ESL teacher’s assistant who falls in love with his seemingly ordinary supervising teacher only to find out she is secretly a K-pop idol. Byeol and Hotaru played conniving Chung Dayeon and dim-witted Kondō Miori respectively, two fame-hungry idols that would do anything to get to the top. The show featured two performances from them as the up-and-coming duo, First Memory: “Better 나 (Better Me)” and “NAUGHTY”.

And because a Lovemonth era wouldn’t be complete without a cover of a Girls Generation song, the girls did a special stage cover of “Lion Heart” by Girls Generation for MCountdown’s special Sunny Summer episode. Yumin, in a shocking turn of events, did not look viscerally uncomfortable the entire time.

HISTORY:

SOAR Entertainment had been in the process of creating Peek-A-Boo for several years, recruiting and dismissing members left and right. By the time Gayeon, Aria, and Sheena were added, Welsh trainee Heather Ahn was only one remaining trainee. Luckily, the company decided this was their ideal lineup and started preparing them for debut. They originally planned to debut in late 2021, but the debut was delayed due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Peek-A-Boo had a rather unorthodox debut. They debuted with two separate singles: one campier, cuter song, and one more mature, mysterious song. The public was so shocked that the members could switch concepts so well, they assumed two different groups had debuted with the name "Peek-A-Boo". In a Vlive, the members explained that they have a "peek" side (their cuter side) and a "boo" side (their girl crush side) and that they plan on being a group that is well-known for fitting both of those roles flawlessly.

There was some controversy as netizens accused the group of queerbaiting with their music video for "KISS YOUR LIPS". Sheena, the maknae of the group, replied to a tweet discussing the controversy: "Oh no...ㅠㅠ I did not plan on sharing this so soon, but I am bisexual. Please don't say weird things about me or my [groupmates]! eyeconic fighting!" She became an LGBT icon overnight.

Peek-A-Boo came back this past May using their "peek" concept with "Catallena". The song was a viral hit and earned the group their first win. The group tearfully thanked the LGBT community during their acceptance speech which angered conservatives, but...honestly who cares about them lmao
