(Chapter 1 of my Murch + Spyke found family/Spyke x Reader fic fron ao3):
You're an adult now.
The cold hard truth.
You did so many missions. You escaped the underground. You saved the world. You were a hero.
But now, you just feel empty.
Shouldn't you be grateful?
You met Off the Hook and you became such great friends with them. You got to befriend the Squid Sisters as a result. You even got the chance to fight off Deep Cut and they helped you save the world.
You know so many idols. You know all the agents.
So, why are you so empty?
You don't have someone to love.
Sure, you have such great friends. They're like family to you. You love them dearly.
But, you've never had a partner.
You haven't had someone to love romantically. That's all you've ever wanted.
You were always into reading romance books. People called you lame and corny, but it was still your favorite genre.
You never got the chance to experience it though.
You just....
"Y/N!!" A familiar voice yelled. "My Cod, why do you sleep through your alarm every damn day, chum?"
You woke up. Murch was right, why do you sleep in so late? You checked the alarm...past 12. Man, you needed to get a job. But, fuck, were you tired from all the agent shit you were just blabbing about.
"Oi, I've already made so many clothing deliveries while you were in here on your ass..." Murch leaned on the door frame and smirked. "I would like to go back to it."
Oh, yeah, you're e roomates with Murch.
You jumped out of bed. "Well, why don't you?" you said flustered. "And don't be a dick to me." You looked away from him.
"I'm joking, don't worry about it, chum. Well, maybe do a little bit. You need to get yourself a better sleeping schedule, yknow?"
"Yeah, yeah." You walked past him into the living room with your clothes in hand.
You were only 5 foot/152 cm. He had to tower over you by at least a foot. Maybe even more. You just realized you actually never asked since he's an urchin and you kind of didn't care about urchin facts. Oh well.
"I'll leave you alone while you change. Just be sure to actually come outside sometime today, alright?" Murch said and was already out the door before you even thought of a response.
"Cod, he must be a busy man. Kinda rude, too..." You thought. You knew that since before you too became roomies, really.
You wanted to see Spyke today for some reason. That would require a trip to Inkpolis.
Murch had always been fascinated by Spyke. A day doesn't go by where he doesn't mention him.
You thought they had to be related, but it turns out they actually aren't. Guess Spyke is like an idol to Murch. You didn't judge it. You thought his obsession might seem a little creepy to others though.
Enough of that. You finally got yourself ready to go to Inkpolis.

Splatoon 3 Murch is described as having "grown rapidly from child to adult" in the Japanese art book, so I think his age might be closer to 18-19.
(/gen /nbr /neu etc etc; I'm not saying this with the intent to invalidate your hc, I just thought it might interest you!)
We know inklings age differently from humans, I wonder if they thought about that aspect of the other species' biology... I wonder if Murch's growth spurt has any implications in that regard
ooof yeahhhh i was thinking of that when i saw the translated page as of late. (which the art in there uwaaaa i wish we would have gotten murch dressed in black he's so cute)
i said he was 16 in my one post because, well, the artbook wasn't released yet nor was any murch content translated until like, recently. (at least that's when *I* saw it, april 2nd.) i think i posted that on march 30th soooo yeah I'll take the L on that, but still, he's pretty young! very funny that me and Murch are probably the same age LOL
as for what i think about the biology aspect; rambling and headcanons under the cut, beeewareee!
i knew a few good things about sea urchin biology beforehand, but now i look at things extensively. they're so weird, i love them. anyway, onto my rambling.
the sea urchin's sheer effectiveness at reproduction and growth really impresses me. once an egg is fertilized it develops into a free-swimming embryo in as little as 12 hours. generally, they reach maturity in about 3-4 years, and considering they go from a little weird larvae to a full 10 centimeters in some species in just 4-3 years or in some even *2*, i don't doubt that the fucked up growth spurt in Murch is not exclusive to him, but infact a species norm. i mean, a sea urchin larva can turn into a fully-fledged, small juvenile, in under an hour. pretty cool, no? i mean i think realistically we'd have to modify this to make sense for a fully-capable, long-living sapient species as they are in splatoon, but the foundation is there, yeah?
not to inject my own le cringe headcanons but i think where spyke and murch came from up north has architecture larger than what they have in the Splatsville/Inkoplis and other Inkling-centric cities. because to them, their large height is the norm. because I'm sure urchins live solely amongst their species with rare exceptions given how Urchins congregate together in large 'herds' in real life. have i thought about this extensively? yeah. i even have made sketches of what i think Urchin-built towns are like, how they live, etc. uhhhhhhhhahuydhahhah
sorry for rambling, i just woke up and its 3am....!!!

been a hot minute since i talked about spyke but eurhrj. hes is infesting my brain again
so sea urchins are tall as HELL obviously but like
is spyke considered? shorter than average?? by sea urchin standards????
considering that he's been living on his own since he was a kid (iirc i cpupd be wrong dont kill me) could he have like?? stunted growth???
the only other urchin in the game is murch who is also considerably taller than the player despite i think only being 2-3 years older (and also not an adult like spyke is so theres a chance he goes through some big growth spurt) and also, he doesnt look nearly as scrawny as the old man (loving) in the inkopolis alley so??????!!??

I NEED to see more of ur Octoling oc with murch 😭 they r so cute!!
(Do you think you’ll ever draw NSFW of them?)
gasp You like them? I'm so glad! Since it's more of self-satisfaction I didn't think many people would like it. I will make sure to draw more! :D
(I actually did draw once for myself but some people on the internet believe Murch is still a minor(in my eyes he is a young adult) so I don't think I will ever post his NSFW on the internet.)

SUPER TROOPER (#130, JAN 2012)
Dee Bradley Baker might just be the busiest member of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cast. He certainly had his work cut out when voicing the clones during their deadly encounter with Jedi Master Pong Krell on the planet Umbara. Interview by Jonathan Wilkins
When you first signed on to do the show, did you ever imagine that you’d be working on such complex storylines as the recent Umbara story arc?
The short answer is “No.” This is insane! Not only to be involved in a show that’s gotten so big, so deep, and so gratifying to watch as a fan, but also to be involved in the Umbara arc is striking in a lot of ways. One of them is the involvement of Walter Murch, whose work with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola includes THX-1138 and Apocalypse Now. He is very exacting, very thoughtful, and has a unique directorial mind. Despite all the fun things that I get to do on the show, to be directed by Walter for episodes like this is a whole different level from anything I’ve been involved with. I can hardly believe it. As I was watching it up on the screen at Skywalker Ranch I was amazed. It’s really knockout stuff.
When you first saw those scripts, can you remember your initial thoughts?
My initial thoughts were Oh, boy! Here’s another clone arc! It’s always very challenging and interesting, and a lot of fun. As we got into it, and as we marched across the dark planet of Umbara, with a Jedi general who has strategies and methods that are not in line with what the clones are used to, I realized that we had something here that we’ve never seen before.
To spend four episodes on this planet, trying to fight our way out and trying to find how to get along with this general, was really rather difficult for me. With the level of personal involvement I feel with these clones, to be sent into this story with this despicable character actually bothered me. It’s something I’d never seen before in this show and it was not an easy thing to bring to the surface, but once it got out there, it became pretty dramatic!
So how did you overcome those feelings?
The only way to overcome them is to fully realize them, and that’s really what we did in this show. This story and the performances don’t pull any punches. You see Rex pretty much lose it at one point, which I’ve never seen before. You see clones that come into conflict with their general in a way you’ve never seen, and the only way to exorcise that is to bring it all out and bring it to life. This is more like a war film and really has some interesting issues involved in terms of who the clones are, what the war is, how they deal with the difficult situation and how the war is fought.
Rex is incredibly popular with the younger fans (see page 19). Was there ever any concern whether they would be okay dealing with such dark themes?
This is not a show that I think is written with just kids in mind. I think this is a story that George Lucas wants to put out there, and most of it appeals to kids, but a lot of it appeals to adults and deals with issues that are in the adult world.
This story is predestined to play out in a way that everybody already understands in Episode III. The fans who know and love this series know what’s coming. I think it’s something you can expect to manifest itself more and more as we get closer to Episode III with our television series. With the television format and the length of the series, we’re able to portray it with depth and reality, and with a sense of humor and humanity that adds so much to the epic storyline of this saga.
How important do you think Season One’s “Rookies” was in putting the clones to the forefront for episodes like these?
To my mind, that was really the first big experiment: whether we could throw an entire storyline to these clones, who in the feature films were not really presented with distinct personalities or any sort of differentiation. It was a really cool creative risk to step out and do that and I think most people will agree that it really paid off. It showed that these guys were interesting and different. We can always go back to the clones because actually, they have a lot to do with what’s interesting about this whole conflict. What happens to the humans that are thrown into this war to fight against droids? These guys are intelligent, they’re flexible, they have a sense of humor and you love them because of it! They’re able to adapt and think, and to attack their problems and solve them as humans facing great odds, and a great war. This comes in the face of the manipulation that they’re really only beginning to become aware of and, in this case, perhaps even against one of their own commanders.
The humanity of the clones makes what happens in Revenge of the Sith even more tragic and poignant.
Absolutely. That’s the thing that’s killing me: I want to know how this plays out for Rex! He’s Anakin’s right hand man; he’s there for him! What happens to Rex? I want to know what happens to Ventress, and to Ahsoka, for goodness sake! But for me, it’s about what happens to Rex. I’ve heard that the finale’s been discussed, but to my knowledge, it hasn’t been decided yet. But then again, I’m pretty far down the command chain!
How important is the writing in separating the various clone characters?
The differentiation comes from the really marvelous writing on this show—that’s ultimately my guide in separating the fellows and portraying their distinctness clearly. I don’t know all the writers, but that ultimately is the compass for me. The bedrock of any good show, whether it’s dramatic or comedic, is the writer, and it’s often an unsung position or part of the whole project. But you can’t have a good show without good writing: I don’t care how good the rest of it is. We’ve got great writers and I rely on them every episode!
When you’re working with (supervising director) Dave Filoni, what sort of direction does he give you?
Dave’s very clear. He knows the story and the clones. He’s an ultra Star Wars nerd, and deeply involved with this entire universe. He knows what he’s talking about. Working under him is easy, because he knows what he wants. That’s ultimately what you need as a voice actor—a good script and a director who knows what they want. We get a lock on that right up front and we pretty much go straight through recording these days.
Doesn’t that get confusing?
It used to, but now we’re used to setting the characters. We have a little method for setting their status, their degree of obedience, their age and all these other things so that I can flip back and forth with just a quick little note I make next to their name on the side of the script. I don’t get asked to do something like this ever. From a voice actor’s standpoint, it’s a very unique project.
Do you think there can be more stories like the Umbara arc?
Yes there can, and there will. I have it on good authority. Bring in the drop-ship and let’s go!
Dee Bradley Baker on why kids can’t get enough of Captain Rex!
Captain Rex is what a kid aspires to in a lot of ways. He’s smart, dependable, strong, able, flexible, and able to make things happen, and also to be a integral part to the story. All of these, I think, are things that a kid wants, and Rex is that in an attainable way. He’s not a Jedi or superhuman. He’s also the right hand man of the central character [Anakin]. Kids may think, If this human can be so important to the main character—the Chosen One—why couldn’t I be heroic like that? ! think these days people want to be that hero character because the world needs heroes. We know that there are villains; we’ve seen that quite clearly in the past and throughout history. People thirst to see the heroic, and to partake in that, and that’s a part of what’s so brilliant about this series. It brings that out in sort of its own epic, mythological, fantasy kind of way, but this is real stuff! I think it speaks for that yearning for the heroic that people have in themselves, that really ties them into the series and to Rex.

dj paul headcanons :)
i have been thinking about him so much and like i've held off on sharing doodles of him because i felt like they wouldn't make sense without all of the thoughts in my head but like i made this blog so i'd start posting my splatoon doodles more SO. might as well get the ideas out there
he's an orphan, kind of? its a lil complicated but like, essentially. grew up in the domes of octo canyon in an orphanage. for what limited resources they have in general, octarians have some pretty nice orphanages etc. it's almost more communally raising kids than anything else, there's a fairly large population of adults that can't reproduce, after all (tentacle octarians. referring to the tentacles.) could go on about the concept but for this the most important thing is that paul doesn't have many familial ties
...hence why he left the domes at such an early age. right after splat 2's hero mode ending, as it often goes. his main motivation was music, to find new influences and inspiration out in the world, as the domes were far enough underground that getting media from the surface was hard.
marina knew him back before either of them left octo valley/canyon! she tutored him occasionally, which was like. a big deal. marina was obviously known for her smarts, and paul was definitely selected because he was seen to have lots of potential
after leaving the domes, he almost immediately tracked down marina. he knew she left and was likely in inkopolis and kind of just showed up and hung out with pearl and marina for a while. marina introduced him to the rest of sashimori + knew of them through pearl. paul being pearl's replacement "vocalist" was something that happened without her knowing until paul left
pearl and marina may not have been ready to take care of paul, but sashimori was definitely a good pick. those are his parents :)
taichi was less involved w/ the whole paul thing for a while compared to karla and ryu-chang. he was under the impression that paul was going to sing with his voice for a long time and the "tiny and awful" comment came after paul tried singing for him
dj is his title. like dr or mr. not elaborating on this (at least not here)
he has a special interest in linguistics. starts off with just the amount of phonetics he needed to know to start playing around with ancient samples in the songs in splat 2, but over time he's gotten super into it. unfortunately this kind of means that he is aware of just how many human languages there were and that he currently has no way of translating any of them
murch is one of his oldest friends and probably his first friend on the surface (marina doesn't count.) they've become super close over the years. paul does get friend discounts he is using that fact to more easily farm ability chunks. sorry
dynamo roller main. how does he carry the thing? good question. (this is in splat 3 times though like hes ~15 for this one not 10)
he will be tall at some point. watch out!!!

grizzco industries: a fuzzy, off the books nightmare.
a synthesis of ideas from conversations with @lipsyncdripink & @octaling & @jukkumi
a few notes: throughout this, i’m going to refer to real life incidents of advertising to youth, workplace malpractice, and the skirting of, and outright breaking of, labor laws.  i will sometimes refer to splatoon 3 spoilers, but never in an overt way.  this post also assumes that the fucking splatoon 2 app is canon.* there’s definitions in this fucker. i’m in deep, folks.
summary: Grizzco Industries. is a black company in which workers are hired as gig workers instead of true employees. By exploiting the Inkling and Octoling prey drive, creating illegal weapons that give them a high they can’t get elsewhere, and preying on the unemployable and too young to know better, Grizzco. creates its ‘bright future’ through harm. The life threatening job, the ( definitely below the board ) gachapon payment system, it all goes hand in hand with Grizzco’s ultimate goal.
Tumblr media
black company: A black company (ブラック企業, burakku kigyō), also referred to in English as a black corporation or black business, is a Japanese term for an exploitative sweatshop-type employment system. //  gig-economy / gig worker / etc: Gig workers are independent contractors, online platform workers, contract firm workers, on-call workers, and temporary workers By classifying their workers as "independent contractors", instead of as "employees", Gig-Economy jobs are not required to provide the full suite of employee benefits.
Though Grizz often refers to the player as an employee, the inconsistent ( or never ending, as in Splatoon 3 ) availability of shifts that are signed up for, rather than having consistent hours, and a lack of actual benefits ( not being paid an actual wage, no healthcare, etc. )  the for the workers seems to imply that the employees are not true employees, but rather independent contractors. The terminology is loose and vague on purpose, in order to avoid the boneless arm of the law.
* a defense of the app being canon: It’s referred to in game as Splatnet, and is presented as if it were diegetic to the game. It also has an in game function ( ordering clothing from Annie for Murch to deliver to you. )
all ages and backgrounds welcome.
This line, and other variations on it, are mentioned in a lot of places - but, most specifically, it’s on the banner for Grizzco on Splatnet 2′s C-Pod. A constant advertisement for Grizzco shifts, right next to Turf War rotations and online shopping. All Ages and Backgrounds Welcome. Turf War is cool with teenagers, and there’s certainly something to be said about that. Grizzco Industries consistently is seen to advertise to the young. On Splatnet, by taking out adverts with Inkopolis News Time, or on Anarchy Splatcast.
Maybe you’ve had a losing streak in Ranked, maybe you just need a few thousand to make it through the end of the month. Grizzco Industries is hiring, all ages and backgrounds welcome.
You know how, in the real world, vape companies were caught actively advertising on websites that were targeted at kids, and then it was found that a significant portion of high schoolers were vaping? Yeah.
Extrapolating this further, it has implications beyond just the cephalopod kids and Turf War scene. When people are desperate, they’ll work wherever. That’s where that ‘and backgrounds’ bit comes in. Much like our real world low paying / gig-economy jobs, it is usually the already trod upon who end up in these positions. ( for my own two cents on who this would entail, I imagine you see a lot of college students, a lot of adults who never finished school, the physically disfigured, and non-verbal people.  People who are considered ‘unemployable’ in white collar work - ie, office environment jobs. )
This also sucks in combination with Splatoon 3′s Splatsville, where it’s mentioned that a lot of people do, genuinely, suffer the effects of poverty. Then a nice, shiny company opens its doors, ready to pay the people willing to risk their necks.
As per my previous email, Inkopolis as a whole values independence - kids move out as soon as they can, play in Turf War after school, and provide for themselves. There’s a focus on making a name for yourself. Grizzco certainly plays on that. All one needs to sign up is to be level 4 in Turf Wars. You’re only one capsule away from financial security.
Actually, let’s talk about the capsules.
the gambler’s fallacy & you
As Inkipedia points out, the capsules in Splatoon 2 are reminiscent of pachinko parlors giving away prizes instead of cash in order to skirt gambling laws. These prize windows are outside the business, and usually right next to a pawnshop, so one can exchange the prizes for cash. Now, Grizzco Industries isn’t running a casino illegally; they’re committing the worst crime of all.
Grizzco Industries is dodging taxes.
Okay, Grizzco dodging taxes is like, the lowest sin. In fact, most real world companies dodge at least some taxes all the time. But it’s not just about Grizz’s taxes - it’s about the employees too. In the real world, independent contractors are required to report income over a certain amount, and that income is then taxed.
Now, suddenly, the capsules serve a lot of purposes. Because it’s not pay per hour, not even pay per shift, really, as it’s based on points accumulated and one shift does not evenly equal a capsule, there’s not a wage to report. Scores of employees who don’t have to worry about a percentage of their wages ‘disappearing.’ You just open a capsule, and if you get lucky, you’re set for the month.
If you get lucky. And if you don’t, well, you can always work another shift. Bring in more Golden Eggs, and you’ll reap even bigger rewards. And if you’re farming for chunks for better abilities on your gear, Grizzco’s got you covered too. Even the company store has its own currency, the scales, which require even more and more shifts to get the different kinds of scales. One more shift means you might get to a fight Cohozuna.
One of the art books ( I believe Haikara Walker ) refers to Salmon Run as particularly addicting, the feeling of power and the fantasy of defending the city, like a real hero, but there’s something subtler too. The comparison to a Pachinko Parlor isn’t random. Grizz is using the allure of bright colors, the thrill of suspense, to perfectly replicate the feeling of gambling.
( in the real world, it’s just good game design, allowing the player to feel rewarded without the rewards becoming stale.  but hey, we’re taking things to the logical extreme, right? )
rare weapons - the logical extreme.
So like, what are the Grizzco Weapons? Powerful, illegally modified weapons, yes, ones that are implied to have been placed in rotation by a ‘tentacle error.’ ( from splatoonus’ post, “If you happen to come across it, don’t even think about stealing it or go blabbing to the media about it.” ) But... There’s just something about them. Maybe it’s the prescription pill motif that all but one of them have, but combining it with the statement that the job has an addictive quality, well...
I do not think that Grizzco Industries is actively drugging its workers. Rather, I think the nature of the job, ‘cooperative’ team job that involves killing scores of enemies that are seen as feral* and using incredibly powerful weapons, with the thrill of randomness, is designed to exploit everything about Inklings and Octolings, particularly the teens.
( * We know this isn’t actually the case, given that they have trade agreements with the Octarians, music, and their own culture, however wether or not that’s public knowledge is debatable, given that the Sunken Scrolls are only ever seen by the player. )
They have high prey drives, thus the high contact sport of Turf Wars. They don’t know better when it comes to labor laws - kids are rarely taught about the kinds of protections afforded to workers. ( Even above the board, as legal as can be business benefit from their workers not knowing their rights. Join a union. )  And when it comes to trying to band together against Grizz.... Well, it’s so much easier to blame the low performers, than it is to give up on what seems to be the perfect job.
pitting workers against each other - for fun and profit!
( I owe this section very specifically to octaling, so, shout out to them. )
A Salmon Run ends in defeat - wether a crew wipe or a quota unmet, you’re brought back early. It’s explained that any excess from the collected Golden Eggs are used for extraction, as the Run itself hasn’t actually ended, and the employees are still in danger. Sure, you brought in your quota’s worth of eggs in the two waves preceding, but Grizz barely gives you 10 points towards a capsule. Upon returning, you’re shown everyone’s statistics,
And you see someone didn’t pull their weight.
It is one thing to be in a competitive environment. In fact, it can be really healthy to be in a competitive environment, where people work together to better each other and themselves. Actually, Turf War would be a great example of that for the Inklings and Octolings. It’s just a sport, after all. If someone doesn’t play well, it’s just a game. Some people might take it too seriously at times, but unless you’re seriously playing in the upper levels professionally, it’s not personal.
But Grizzco Industries is a job. And that kind of competitive, bonus-driven employment is designed to prevent people from banding together. Grizz has perfectly designed a job where forming a union is antithetical to the job.
After all, you can get docked for someone else’s poor performance. If that poor performer complains, the perfect response of “you didn’t die.” sits there waiting for you. Anyone talking about exploitation, about the lack of compensation for injuries, they just didn’t know how to do it right. The gambling-like hooks are already in the top earners, and to walk away now would be stupid. To risk the retaliation would be stupid. A captive work force, in many, many ways.
All this, in service of Mr. Grizz’s fuzzy future.

Some people are acting really, really, uncomfortably weird about Murch’s Splatoon 3 design. Just because a child hit puberty doesn’t automatically mean they’re suddenly ripe for sexualization. Absolutely zero caution is being had when it comes to responding to his new design- I can’t fault actual children for having crushes on him, but seeing people in their 20s and upwards relentlessly “thirsting” after him is more than a little uncomfortable when we don’t even know how old he is.
Like… It’s only been 5 years since Splatoon 2. I genuinely doubt he’s even an adult- sincerely, he looks like he’s still only 15-16. If we’re really being generous, maybe even 17… But that still isn’t an adult. It’s close, but still not an adult. I don’t know, it’s just… Weird. Maybe we didn’t get a lot of people being cruel to Frye’s design, especially in comparison to what Pearl had to deal with, but this trade-off is almost kind of worse to me.

I don't know if I've shared this story before but it's lunch time and I want to anyway.
So it was around 2012 I think. Good ten and more years ago. The scout jamberee. Scout organizations from around New Zealand got together in Christchurch and set up tents and activity's for a two week trip. A good proper city of tents with streets and parks and a shop just spawned in.
Now this was all before the several dozen earthquakes that destroyed the entire city prompting the local wizard to try and remedy things. So everything was sort of unknown to me at the time.
They had three groups here; conquest, a blue pirate themed group. Crusade, a red crusader themed group. And creative, a green group with no clear theme I could see. I was in crusade. We earnt points for our team in scout group activities. All sorts all physical, some teamwork based and generally requiring cunning.
So I was at the field that led to the only shop. Big open field with no tents and I saw a group of maybe 50 and more boys in red and crusader costumes. Only boys can be scouts you see. It splits between cubs and adventurers if I recall. Anyway more than 50 14 or so year olds about my age were murching in a group chanting. "we are crusade! The mighty, mighty crusade! We are crusade so get out of way."
Heard it the other side of the field. Damn loud and in unison like a choir. Something clicked inside me there. "How dare they" it said. So I walked a little over so I was maybe 100 meters from the group but In Their path. I stood there like that mad Chinese guy who stood Infront of those tanks that one time. Maybe he felt the same way I did.
So this supposed crusade keeps marching towards me and I stand there silently thinking they'll address me, go around me, stop and angrely demand I move.
Nope
I nearly got trampled. The group marched into me and a wave of jostling and strikes as it flowed through me. I was hurt a fair bit but luckily I didn't fall over. That would have killed me. I know stupidly suicidal but I was furious.
No adults stepped in. No one asked if I was ok. Red faced and hot I swore at them and went back to the tent feeling a little defeated. Didn't tell anyone about it there. Didn't think anyone would care. People back then rarely ever did.
But I still wanted to share that story. About how I thought picking a fight with 50+ people over a simple matter of pride was the right thing to do.

which of ur agent ocs would get along with which npcs and why! (excluding the idols / story mode characters)
i have to think about this. bc most of the npcs arent really memorable to me:/
lychee: acquainted with most of the splatsville shopkeepers bc they frequent the stores a lot. also acquainted with murch and tries to make smalltalk with him but its not really working
leander: knows flow pretty well, their pretty friendly with each other and they used to talk frequently. flow would tell him stories abt her life and hed listen even if he didnt fully understand what she was talking about. also idk if it counts but he's friendly with sheldon. also crusty sean!!!!!!!theyd be bros but i cant imagine them interacting outside of a business transaction
guava: i dont think hes friends or gets along with any npcs. he was a shy kid and is now a shy adult so no real relationships (positive or negative) were made. i think the inkopolis plaza(splatoon 1) shopkeeps recognize him
eight: i like the idea of them hanging out at ammo knights but literally EVERY person does this...ummm their cooler and hang out with bisk and mr coco maybe. theyd get along with one of the jellies i think(maybe jel la fleur)
dominic: not friends or enemies with anyone, but like leander hes friendly with sheldon. he doesnt have many friends in general. i think he and one of the shoe guys would get along

Chance Fiddler
She/they
Fiddler Crab humanoid
Teen-Young Adult (or same age as Murch)
Graffiti artist of Splatsville
She's a childhood friend of Murch that customizes clothing items. She makes art and custom shirts for a living. She has a crush on Murch since they were little. Mr. Coco is possibly her uncle (assuming he's an adult). She's a laid back skater girl, smokes sea weed on rare occasions and is Hispanic, which is why she speaks in Spanglish. Her eyes are rarely shown and hide under her Hermit Fab brand beanie.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR SPLOON AGENTS NEOW 👁️👁️ (affectionate)
okay here’s the basic run down:
Sam Flott, aka Cap’3, aka DJ Jettstream: they/she pronouns (you must reach a certain threshold of friendship to use she/her pronouns for them), dualie wielding, hard of hearing, asshole gamer (affectionate). they prefer to sign rather than talk most of the time, hence the squid sisters translating for her. Cuttlefish p much adopted them after Splatoon 1, so they have a sibling relationship with Callie and Marie. Because of this, despite being a fan of The Squid Sisters music, they pretend they don’t really care about it to piss them both off. She’s dating Agent 8, but that’s been a very recent development as of Splatoon 3. Her default ink color is yellow, often with a coral or purple fade on the tips.
Mackerel “Mack” Reef, aka Agent 4: they/he pronouns (but leans more towards they/them pronouns, and doesn’t mind the occasional she if the moment arises), likes a good splattershot or blaster, but honestly would rather work on cybersecurity and hacking projects, such as the Memverse, or taking apart ORCA (a recent personal project) to see how it works. Marie has become a maternal figure to them since the events of Splatoon 2, but they’d never like, say that out loud. They’re from Splatsville originally, and are a die hard Deep Cut fan. He didn’t know who The Squid Sisters were because they aren’t big in the Splatlands. In terms of their love life… Mack is going to ask Murch out one of these days, when he gets his courage up…
Hachi Misaki, aka Agent 8: she/her pronouns (butch version), uses the inkbrush nouveau and the snipewriter 5H, although she still has her octoshot around if she needs it. While she’s still an agent of the new squidbeak splatoon, her current “mission” is to find her place in Cephalopod Society, so she spends her days participating in turf wars and anarchy battles, and picking up shifts at Grizzco. Oh! And hanging out with Pearl and Marina, as they took her on tour with them so she could see the world. For a few months after the events of Octo Expansion she stayed at Pearl’s big ass manor house, before moving in with Agent 4 for a while, and then eventually moving in with Cap’3 after a few months of dating. She loves her girlfriend, she does, but the amount of energy drink cans they leave around is hazardous. Misaki still doesn’t have all her memories, but after clearing the spire with her pallet she’s gained enough to suspect that she, and many other octoling foot soldiers, might be a clone courtesy of Kambo Corp. So it might be less that she’s missing memories, and more like she just… doesn’t have any more.
Zowie, aka Agent Neo3, aka Orphan of Yarrd, the Ursine Vanquisher of the Splatlands: she/her and it/its pronouns (it’s a little bit feral ngl), splatana or bust… or splatling, if she really needs the range. Little Buddy is her adopted brother, since she was raised by salmonids. Before the events of Splatoon 3, her (and Rol’s, aka Little Buddy) dad was killed in a targeted test of the fuzzy ooze. She still has no idea how to fit in with Cephalopod Society, but she loves music and dancing, and is obsessed with Off The Hook, so she and Misaki have become really close. Salmonids have to earn their adult names via their actions, so after the events of Splatoon 3 she was given her full title by the local Salmonid tribes. She constantly forgets that she’s technically an Inkling, and always says “we” when talking about salmonids.
