FYI: For those who bookmark such things, I recently had to move the AdHouse blog. I'm commemorating the move with a blog post about The Comic Book Genius of John B. Jacobs…

Joel,
Have you ever thought about doing anything more with Onion Jack? That was one of my favorite comics ever!
Wanna hear how Onion Jack came about? I was sweating a deadline which required me to make a four-page story over one weekend—from thumbnails to finished inks to lettering. I was feeling pretty stressed about getting it done. Then, AdHouse contacted me to see if I could do something for their Free Comic Book Day issue, also by the end of the weekend. An eight-page something. Twelve start-to-finish pages in one weekend! That's nothing compared to Jack Kirby, but it was a lot more than my usual output. Hence stick figures and superhero gags. I scheduled one-hour per page, skipped any prep, and drew the final art one-panel at a time, hoping it would come out to eight pages.
Anyway, I don't think there's any more story to tell with Onion Jack, but I should really think about telling more stories in that sort of manic-blur approach. I did the same thing for The Preposterous Adventures of IronHide Tom the following year, and I liked the way it turned out, too.
Thanks for asking after Onion Jack! It's nice to reminisce.

Hey! I'm running a Kickstarter for my newest comic, GONE GHOST: A VAL CANNON MYSTERY. It's a punk comedy mystery comic book set at a Halloween party in 1996, and it's the sequel to WHERE THE RENT WENT.
You can get both of those comics in print or PDF format at the kickstarter, as well as all the other comics I've made in the last five years, including the Adhouse Books collection of the first six issues of Meeting Comics.
These comics are a part of my MEETING COMICS series, but they are self-contained. They are the only issues set in the past; the others take place basically when they were drawn. The Val Cannon Mysteries star Val, the most popular character in Meeting Comics. In 2022, she's a hyper-competent office manager in her late forties, but in 1996, she's a punk singer and an amateur detective.
Please share, and please check out the Kickstarter. Thanks!

Had a fantastic time over the weekend at @cartooncrossroads with @cx3.ohio It was awesome being part of this show and meeting everyone in person for the first time. I met a ton of fantastic artists and creators and I can’t wait to read all of your books. I was fortunate enough to receive signatures from @cartoonist.kayfabe and attend their panel and @jimruggart panel about AdHouse books. The @fschodt panel was also spectacular. I’m feeling more inspired than ever to keep creating and moving forward in this incredible medium where imagination is the ceiling. @cx3.ohio @sydney.kit.anim @ethan_the_board @freddie.crocheron @briancanini @cbusscribbler @haberfish @nullpointzero @juanlarathree @nickstellanova @smdempseycomics @kkylewindle @dfcomics @drawbhell @norahclous #comics #cartoonistsofinstagram #cartoonistkayfabe #marvel #indiecomics #zines #graphicnovel #artistofinstagram #edpiskor #jimrugg #adhousebooks #comicsforsale #comicstrip #comicart #igcomicfamily #igcomiccommunity #igcomicfam #graphicart #comicon #cxc #cartoonsketch #cartoons #manga #mangaart #comicshow #popculture #mangacollection #mangaart #columbusmakesart #columbus #columbusohio https://www.instagram.com/p/CjqPEdJst0f/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
